The Rest of the Story: How 'Marty' Became Martin Luther King

The Rest of the Story: How 'Marty' Became Martin Luther King

Hosts Dave and Len cover a wide-ranging episode: a Paul Harvey clip revealing young Martin Luther King’s early experiences, reactions to a disputed $12 billion farm payout and concerns from the National Black Farmers Association, HGTV pulling Nicole Curtis after a racial slur video, a professor’s hot-mic remarks at Hunter College, and a suspicious C-SPAN caller linked to Trump. The show mixes news, personal notes, and a Mount Rushmore-style roundtable to close out Black History Month.

Listeners get context, commentary, and community perspectives on race, accountability, and media in today’s headlines.

00:01:23 --> 00:01:26 So you have no excuse not to listen to us.
00:01:27 --> 00:01:30 We have plenty of venues and plenty of avenues, I should say,
00:01:30 --> 00:01:32 for you to listen to us on.
00:01:32 --> 00:01:35 I'm hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young. What's going on, sir?
00:01:36 --> 00:01:41 Hey, Dave. Everything is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black Guide.
00:01:42 --> 00:01:46 DelawareBlack.com, black media specialist, all-around good guy.
00:01:46 --> 00:01:49 How goes it, Dave? Well, it's going, man. Sure.
00:01:51 --> 00:02:01 You know we had the blizzard point 2.0 yesterday well actually sunday going into monday.
00:02:02 --> 00:02:06 By the time it got finished snowing there was no snow on the ground yeah you
00:02:06 --> 00:02:13 know so that was that was crazy uh the only thing i appreciate about it is you
00:02:13 --> 00:02:18 know it seems like it's kind of melting kind of quick so yeah yeah that was
00:02:18 --> 00:02:20 that was a good snow wasn't like the last one so that's
00:02:21 --> 00:02:24 that's good we we didn't need to have
00:02:24 --> 00:02:26 two of them back to back i think some people were disappointed because
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 they thought it was going to be more but then looks like
00:02:29 --> 00:02:33 you know we got a lot of people downstate below us
00:02:33 --> 00:02:36 i know you said that you had some power out it's down
00:02:36 --> 00:02:38 at the campground yeah but there's still a lot
00:02:38 --> 00:02:42 of people that still don't have power down there apparently yeah so
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 we were because i know on my job we were
00:02:45 --> 00:02:48 getting hit up about people losing stuff
00:02:48 --> 00:02:51 that was in their refrigerator and stuff like that oh yeah
00:02:51 --> 00:02:54 i'm sure and you know
00:02:54 --> 00:03:00 for us it's probably bad to be well here at the campground because we have a
00:03:00 --> 00:03:06 pump that runs water through the whole campground and i didn't even think about
00:03:06 --> 00:03:09 it till the day i was talking to somebody but oh it runs by electric huh yeah
00:03:09 --> 00:03:13 it's an electric pump you know that pumps it from the well,
00:03:14 --> 00:03:18 So that means not only do they not have power, they don't have water,
00:03:18 --> 00:03:21 which is like, you know, ugh. Wow.
00:03:22 --> 00:03:24 Did y'all got that started?
00:03:25 --> 00:03:30 Well, no. So as of right now, I've not heard that they've regained power.
00:03:30 --> 00:03:34 The power company in that area, which is different than ours in this area,
00:03:34 --> 00:03:36 said that they're working.
00:03:36 --> 00:03:42 They said, we can't give you any estimates. We're just going to keep on working. So we'll see.
00:03:43 --> 00:03:49 Wow, that's crazy. Wow. Well, our hats are off to you guys and prayers and blessings
00:03:49 --> 00:03:57 hopefully will be bestowed upon you guys with that power coming back on soon because,
00:03:57 --> 00:04:01 yeah, man, that's not good. That's not good at all.
00:04:01 --> 00:04:08 So other than that, I will say that, you know, I was blessed to make it another
00:04:08 --> 00:04:13 365 days around the sun, I guess. It's not a leap year, is it?
00:04:14 --> 00:04:19 No, it's not elite. No. It's not elite. It's only 365 this year. That's right. Okay.
00:04:20 --> 00:04:24 So, yeah. So, basically, today is my birthday.
00:04:25 --> 00:04:30 Okay. So, Dave, how does it feel? How does it feel to be, like, that old?
00:04:31 --> 00:04:36 I mean, I'm curious, but not too curious. But, you know, like, what is it like?
00:04:37 --> 00:04:41 You know, you probably spend a couple generations and, you know,
00:04:41 --> 00:04:44 No, you're still here kicking it with me every Tuesday.
00:04:45 --> 00:04:51 Are you done? Yeah, I'm done. You sure you don't have more you want to add on to that?
00:04:51 --> 00:04:54 You know, if I do, I'll interrupt you and let you know.
00:04:57 --> 00:05:02 Well, my young lad, I mean, you know, you're going to reach a milestone of your own, you know. I know.
00:05:03 --> 00:05:09 You know, but it's, you know, it's interesting. You know, I must take a moment
00:05:09 --> 00:05:13 to thank God for allowing me to see another year.
00:05:13 --> 00:05:18 Too many people that I know are not having been as fortunate.
00:05:18 --> 00:05:23 And I actually got a couple of funerals that I have to go to this week because, you know.
00:05:24 --> 00:05:31 Oh, more than one? Yeah, more than one. Actually, I could be going to three in the next three days.
00:05:32 --> 00:05:35 You know, that's crazy. Yeah, it is crazy.
00:05:36 --> 00:05:44 But I definitely thank God for allowing me to reach another milestone and, you know,
00:05:45 --> 00:05:53 So it's been interesting. You know, my life, you know, I always kid you about
00:05:53 --> 00:05:55 writing a book. I guess I could write one too.
00:05:56 --> 00:06:02 So, you know, so it's been interesting. But thank you to those who are listening to the show.
00:06:03 --> 00:06:09 And for those who have wished me happy birthday, I really appreciate it.
00:06:09 --> 00:06:13 And I got a lot of people that wished me happy birthday already.
00:06:13 --> 00:06:16 So thank you for that and you know
00:06:16 --> 00:06:20 to both my family and friends so
00:06:20 --> 00:06:28 well hold on hold on don't don't glean by it so for this 60 something year of
00:06:28 --> 00:06:33 life is there anything you want to do different is there anything you want you
00:06:33 --> 00:06:39 know like what what is what are your goals for this year of life to make it to 67.
00:06:39 --> 00:06:45 Okay. All right. Well, well said. Yeah. Okay. So that's my goal is to get there.
00:06:46 --> 00:06:47 You know, nothing's promised.
00:06:48 --> 00:06:53 And, you know, I like to get there in one piece. And, you know, that's where I am.
00:06:53 --> 00:06:59 I mean, I wish the world was in better shape than it is because,
00:06:59 --> 00:07:03 you know, as you get older, you want things to be more simpler in life and.
00:07:05 --> 00:07:07 Doesn't seem to be doing that right now, you know what I mean?
00:07:07 --> 00:07:12 Nah, probably more complicated now. Yeah, things are real complicated right now.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:19 So, but, you know, we'll see. We'll see this time next year. All right.
00:07:20 --> 00:07:24 So, as far as the show tonight, we're going to get started.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:30 Here we go. It's the end of Black History Month already.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:34 I mean, you know, see how quickly it goes that it's too funny.
00:07:35 --> 00:07:39 And a lot of crazy stuff has been going on in the last couple of weeks in reference
00:07:39 --> 00:07:46 to, you know, black, you know, our people and so forth for those that are black that listen to the show.
00:07:47 --> 00:07:51 But I wanted to do a little bit different. You know, we've been doing a few
00:07:51 --> 00:07:54 black history facts. We talked about James.
00:07:54 --> 00:07:59 I mean, we talked about, gosh, who did we talk about last week?
00:08:00 --> 00:08:06 I forget, Dave. Jesse Jackson. I'm sorry. Jesse Jackson. who had just passed
00:08:06 --> 00:08:07 away actually on that day.
00:08:09 --> 00:08:14 So I want to do something a little different for today's Black History Fact.
00:08:14 --> 00:08:19 And we'll probably extend Black History Month into next week as well,
00:08:20 --> 00:08:22 since they try to short us out of a few days.
00:08:22 --> 00:08:26 So, but I want to play something for you.
00:08:27 --> 00:08:31 And let me set this up by saying, for those of you that are around my age that
00:08:31 --> 00:08:38 listen or whatever, If you ever remember listening to stories that were done by Paul Harvey,
00:08:38 --> 00:08:46 Paul Harvey was a fabulous news person from back during the 50s and 60s and 70s.
00:08:46 --> 00:08:50 I used to listen to a show when I was in retail. We used to have it on our radio station.
00:08:51 --> 00:08:58 And one of the things I used to always want to listen to was something he did
00:08:58 --> 00:09:00 called The Rest of the Story.
00:09:00 --> 00:09:04 And it was always him telling a story about somebody, someplace,
00:09:05 --> 00:09:08 something that really kept you captivated.
00:09:09 --> 00:09:13 Because you wanted to know what he was talking about.
00:09:13 --> 00:09:18 He kind of gave you, he probably set you up and then delivered the punchline afterwards.
00:09:19 --> 00:09:23 So what I want to do for the little known history fact, I want you to listen
00:09:23 --> 00:09:27 to the story that Leonard's going to play for you and listen closely.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:30 The rest of the story.
00:09:31 --> 00:09:36 Marty just plain felt guilty. He didn't need a reason. He simply felt that way most of the time.
00:09:37 --> 00:09:42 Give you an example. Well, when Marty was 12, his 11-year-young brother slid
00:09:42 --> 00:09:45 down the banister, shot off the end of the banister, accidentally collided with
00:09:45 --> 00:09:48 grandmother, knocked the old woman out cold, and Marty thought she was dead.
00:09:48 --> 00:09:52 But here's the strange part. Marty blamed himself.
00:09:53 --> 00:09:55 Maybe thought he could have prevented the accident or something.
00:09:55 --> 00:09:59 Anyway, Marty took it so personally that he went upstairs to one of the bedrooms,
00:10:00 --> 00:10:03 opened the window, and jumped out. Jumped right out the window.
00:10:03 --> 00:10:08 Well, as it turned out, neither Marty nor his grandmother was in the least injured,
00:10:08 --> 00:10:10 but let me explain something further.
00:10:11 --> 00:10:15 Many months later, that same grandmother became ill, was rushed to the hospital.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:18 There was a parade going on in town, so Marty slipped out to see the parade.
00:10:19 --> 00:10:24 That's right. Grandma died in the hospital, and Marty, once more overcome by
00:10:24 --> 00:10:28 irrational guilt, went home, went upstairs to the bedroom, and jumped out the window again.
00:10:29 --> 00:10:34 This was not for show now. Nobody was watching, and yet, as he had before, Marty fell two stories,
00:10:34 --> 00:10:39 picked himself up, and dusted himself off completely unhurt,
00:10:39 --> 00:10:44 and most significantly feeling as though he had somehow atoned for his imagined negligence.
00:10:45 --> 00:10:49 I don't think anybody can say for sure, but I have an idea of where this needlessly
00:10:49 --> 00:10:51 guilty conscience came from.
00:10:51 --> 00:10:55 That's the rest of the story. When Marty was sick.
00:10:56 --> 00:10:59 His best friends were the grocer's sons who lived across the street.
00:10:59 --> 00:11:02 They spent a lot of time together until one day.
00:11:02 --> 00:11:06 The boy's mother answered the door, Marty asked, can the guys come out and play?
00:11:06 --> 00:11:09 And the woman said her sons were not at home, but Marty had seen them come home
00:11:09 --> 00:11:11 only minutes before, and he told her so.
00:11:12 --> 00:11:16 Well, the woman stiffened. All right, Marty wanted the truth.
00:11:16 --> 00:11:19 The boys were no longer permitted a play with Kim.
00:11:20 --> 00:11:23 She gave Marty the reason and slammed the door.
00:11:24 --> 00:11:28 That, quite plausibly, was the day young Marty started feeling guilty for everything,
00:11:28 --> 00:11:29 even the things that were not his fault.
00:11:30 --> 00:11:34 You never, before this, last four minutes.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:38 You never knew the child who jumped out a second-story window as a personally
00:11:38 --> 00:11:41 prescribed penance for sins that he never committed. it.
00:11:41 --> 00:11:45 You never knew that little boy who went home crying when he lost what seemed
00:11:45 --> 00:11:46 like the two best friends he'd ever have.
00:11:47 --> 00:11:51 But eventually, the little boy grew into a man, and he learned not to misplace
00:11:51 --> 00:11:53 blame, and more important, to place it where it belonged.
00:11:54 --> 00:11:59 You see, the reason the grocer's wife decided to keep her sons away from Marty,
00:12:00 --> 00:12:05 to keep her sons away from six-year-old Martin Luther King Jr.,
00:12:05 --> 00:12:07 was the predictable one.
00:12:07 --> 00:12:10 The grocer's family was white, and Martin was not.
00:12:11 --> 00:12:15 You'll recall that toward the end of his life, Martin Luther King, Jr.
00:12:15 --> 00:12:21 Told us he had a dream, a dream, that one day his own children would be judged
00:12:21 --> 00:12:24 not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
00:12:25 --> 00:12:36 Now you have revisited the day that dream was born because now you know the rest of the story. Yeah.
00:12:37 --> 00:12:40 Pretty deep, right? Yeah, interesting. Yeah.
00:12:41 --> 00:12:46 And of course, now when you play, when you hear that, you think about the speech,
00:12:47 --> 00:12:52 little black boys playing with little, okay, that makes sense now.
00:12:52 --> 00:13:00 I wanted to play that because even at six years old, he was dealing with things
00:13:00 --> 00:13:05 that he later on was able to use to try to make a change.
00:13:05 --> 00:13:11 And I just thought that was a great story to put out there and especially since
00:13:11 --> 00:13:15 that speech that he referenced just then.
00:13:17 --> 00:13:21 Kind of brought everything home. Yeah, I was just surprised at the fact that
00:13:21 --> 00:13:26 I'd never heard him being called by the name Marty growing up.
00:13:26 --> 00:13:28 So I thought that was kind of interesting.
00:13:28 --> 00:13:33 Yeah, yeah. Well, this guy, Paul Harvey, he gives you the story.
00:13:34 --> 00:13:38 You know, like I said, he draws you in, and then you'd be like,
00:13:39 --> 00:13:40 well, who's he talking about?
00:13:41 --> 00:13:44 Right. You know, so you would have never thought he was talking about Martin
00:13:44 --> 00:13:46 Luther King in that respect. Right.
00:13:46 --> 00:13:51 But I thought that was a great story, and I just wanted to play that for everybody.
00:13:51 --> 00:13:53 You can give us your thoughts.
00:13:54 --> 00:14:01 And it's funny how life just kind of came full circle for Martin Luther King, whereas he was no Marty.
00:14:03 --> 00:14:08 So I just wanted to play that for you. So that's your little-known Black History
00:14:08 --> 00:14:10 Factor right there for you.
00:14:10 --> 00:14:12 Okay? All right.
00:14:13 --> 00:14:17 So now we can go into some stories,
00:14:17 --> 00:14:21 you know this is it was funny when I was going through all the stories Leonard
00:14:21 --> 00:14:29 that I wanted to talk about today you know there's so many out there that we can talk about a lot and,
00:14:30 --> 00:14:36 but I wanted to keep it about stories that you probably would never hear about
00:14:36 --> 00:14:42 unless you went looking for them so this is one of those stories black farmer Mm-hmm.
00:14:43 --> 00:14:49 Leader slams Trump over a $12 billion payout claim.
00:14:50 --> 00:14:55 John Boyd Jr., president of the National Black Farmers Association,
00:14:55 --> 00:15:01 went on the offensive Sunday challenging what he characterized as a string of
00:15:01 --> 00:15:03 false statements coming from the Trump administration.
00:15:04 --> 00:15:11 Boyd made his remarks on MS Now, where a conversation touched on the Supreme
00:15:11 --> 00:15:16 Court's recent decision to curtail the president's tariff authority.
00:15:16 --> 00:15:19 Rolling out reports, a
00:15:19 --> 00:15:29 centerpiece Boyd's criticism was claimed Trump made an Iowa event where the
00:15:29 --> 00:15:37 president told attendees that $12 billion had been distributed to farmers.
00:15:37 --> 00:15:44 Once Boyd rejected that assertion saying no money has gone out.
00:15:45 --> 00:15:50 He went down to Iowa and said that there was $12 billion that was paid out.
00:15:50 --> 00:15:57 People, that is a lie, he said. The money has not been paid out, not one cent of it.
00:15:57 --> 00:16:03 And I just recently got an email, I think Friday, that said that signed...
00:16:04 --> 00:16:07 The sign-up period has now been moved to April.
00:16:08 --> 00:16:12 Boyd outlined how the administration had repeatedly shifted its promised delivery
00:16:12 --> 00:16:18 date, cycling through November, December, January, and February with nothing to show for it.
00:16:19 --> 00:16:23 He said the president had faced no consequences for the continuous delays.
00:16:24 --> 00:16:29 The president just keeps making false statements and he's not being held accountable.
00:16:30 --> 00:16:35 This president has a problem with black leaders that speak up or anyone that
00:16:35 --> 00:16:37 opposes anything that he says.
00:16:37 --> 00:16:44 He goes on to say, Boyd also raised sharp allegations about what or who gets
00:16:44 --> 00:16:48 a seat at the table when agricultural policy is being discussed.
00:16:48 --> 00:16:54 He said he was shut out of the White House roundtable where Trump unveiled the
00:16:54 --> 00:16:56 $12 billion announcement,
00:16:56 --> 00:17:03 a claim others doubted until a Black governor with similarity turned away from
00:17:03 --> 00:17:05 a separate meeting. Remember, we talked about this last week.
00:17:06 --> 00:17:12 He had an all-white forum meeting with all-white audience that excluded Black farmers, Boyd said.
00:17:13 --> 00:17:18 He tied the pattern directly to the administration's rollback on the DEI initiatives,
00:17:18 --> 00:17:25 It's describing it as a deliberate political signaling designed to move away
00:17:25 --> 00:17:30 from black and small farmer issues without naming race outright.
00:17:31 --> 00:17:34 So here we are with the DEI problem again.
00:17:35 --> 00:17:41 Here we are with singling out black people, in this case, black farmers.
00:17:42 --> 00:17:46 You know, you're saying that there's $12 million for these farmers,
00:17:46 --> 00:17:48 but yet you have a meeting.
00:17:48 --> 00:17:51 And not all the farmers are represented at this meeting.
00:17:53 --> 00:17:57 From what I understand, the Black Farmers Association is a pretty large group of farmers.
00:17:58 --> 00:18:03 And, you know, how can we not have a seat at the table?
00:18:04 --> 00:18:08 Now, you know, considering, you know, here we are, like I said,
00:18:08 --> 00:18:12 I just mentioned about the governor who wasn't invited to the governor's meeting.
00:18:13 --> 00:18:17 Here we have it again with the farmers not being invited to the farmer's meeting.
00:18:17 --> 00:18:20 You know, what's your thoughts on all of this?
00:18:20 --> 00:18:25 Is it right? Is it wrong? So, I mean, I think clearly it's wrong.
00:18:25 --> 00:18:30 And I remember seeing the John Boyd video and basically what he was saying when
00:18:30 --> 00:18:36 he talked about it was, well, you know, they made it seem like they weren't
00:18:36 --> 00:18:38 entertaining small farmers.
00:18:38 --> 00:18:41 They were entertaining the large farmers with some of these payouts and those
00:18:41 --> 00:18:47 talks, which instantly made me think of when he said large farmers,
00:18:47 --> 00:18:49 I'm thinking of corporations.
00:18:50 --> 00:18:55 And when he said he's a small farmer, I think of these mom and pops farms.
00:18:55 --> 00:18:58 So in my mind, just like Venezuela and a whole lot of things,
00:18:58 --> 00:19:01 I feel like he's kind of giving this.
00:19:02 --> 00:19:04 Like almost bailout money to
00:19:04 --> 00:19:09 large corporations instead of the small-time farmers who really need it.
00:19:10 --> 00:19:16 Yeah, and I mean, right now, you know, farming is one of those type of industries
00:19:16 --> 00:19:25 that we have to be very careful about as far as keeping the integrity of the farming industry,
00:19:25 --> 00:19:28 because with all the technology we have coming in there,
00:19:28 --> 00:19:31 a lot of the farming is changing and
00:19:31 --> 00:19:34 a lot of it's being you know we're talking about
00:19:34 --> 00:19:38 you know have been made more mechanical
00:19:38 --> 00:19:42 robotic and and you
00:19:42 --> 00:19:46 know so these farmers you know are some
00:19:46 --> 00:19:50 of them are losing their farms because they're not able to keep up with what's
00:19:50 --> 00:19:55 going on with the next guy or the next you know the bigger farmers that might
00:19:55 --> 00:20:00 be in the area because they have the money to be able to do what they need to
00:20:00 --> 00:20:02 do as far as the robotics and stuff like that.
00:20:03 --> 00:20:08 It's scary out there right now. So, you know, I'm sure these guys,
00:20:08 --> 00:20:13 the Black Farmers Association and the small farmers, they're probably going through right now.
00:20:13 --> 00:20:19 And if you want to say that you got $12 million out there to help these guys,
00:20:19 --> 00:20:24 and then all of a sudden it hasn't been given out and people are waiting on it.
00:20:25 --> 00:20:29 It's not fair. It's not fair to anyone. I don't care who you are.
00:20:29 --> 00:20:34 But if you're shaking hands and making those kind of deals with those big farming
00:20:34 --> 00:20:40 companies and whatever, you know, I mean, isn't that what we're used to seeing
00:20:40 --> 00:20:41 from the president anyway?
00:20:42 --> 00:20:44 Yeah. Well, you know, I feel like he makes a lot of promises.
00:20:44 --> 00:20:49 Did you hear about even with the ICE agents, a lot of them were promised $50
00:20:49 --> 00:20:53 bonuses or we call it like a sign on bonus.
00:20:53 --> 00:20:56 A lot of them are saying they're
00:20:56 --> 00:21:00 not even getting their regular paychecks forget the bonus some
00:21:00 --> 00:21:03 of them are on furlough right now you know some of
00:21:03 --> 00:21:08 them are between them and the TSA agents and so forth so he don't care about
00:21:08 --> 00:21:15 nobody but lining his own pockets you know anytime you got millions of dollars
00:21:15 --> 00:21:20 out there you're trying to you know you're trying to distribute to the people
00:21:20 --> 00:21:22 you want to distribute to And, you know,
00:21:22 --> 00:21:25 it almost seemed like he's making backdoor deals,
00:21:25 --> 00:21:32 you know, all the time, you know, hey, I'll give you this if you allow me to do this. Right.
00:21:33 --> 00:21:40 You know, so. Or in certain cases, I give you this if you don't tell that I did this. Oh, yeah.
00:21:41 --> 00:21:46 Yeah. Well, that's why he's trying to distract us from the Epstein files by talking about the UFOs.
00:21:47 --> 00:21:51 Right. Yeah. So nobody want to hear about that.
00:21:51 --> 00:21:57 You know, but we need to pay attention to the story because the story is a very
00:21:57 --> 00:22:03 important story that we need to make sure that those guys from the Black Farmer
00:22:03 --> 00:22:06 Association are being treated fairly.
00:22:07 --> 00:22:11 And, you know, because definitely, I mean, their products, they want their products.
00:22:12 --> 00:22:15 They definitely, you know, the products that they are turning out,
00:22:15 --> 00:22:17 the government definitely still wants the products.
00:22:18 --> 00:22:21 They just don't want to pay for them, you know. So...
00:22:22 --> 00:22:25 I'm sure we'll keep an eye on that story and see what happens.
00:22:26 --> 00:22:30 All right, moving on to our next story. Were you aware of the story that I'm
00:22:30 --> 00:22:34 about to read, Leonard? Let me just take a look. The next story.
00:22:34 --> 00:22:39 Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm sorry. All right. I think I read about it either
00:22:39 --> 00:22:40 last week or the week before.
00:22:41 --> 00:22:44 Yeah, you know, we got a lot going on with these type of things.
00:22:45 --> 00:22:49 I didn't want to do the other story that involved the, you know,
00:22:49 --> 00:22:53 the N-word, you know, from the wards, you know, because everybody's talking
00:22:53 --> 00:22:56 about that, and it's really a shame that that happened.
00:22:56 --> 00:23:07 But HGTV cancels rehab and addict after video of Nicole Curtis saying the N-word surfaces.
00:23:08 --> 00:23:17 It's Detroit Fox 2. After video rehab addict of Nicole Curtis saying the N-word surface,
00:23:18 --> 00:23:22 HGTV pulled the show from the platforms Curtis
00:23:22 --> 00:23:26 rehabbed homes in several cities
00:23:26 --> 00:23:31 and around the country including in Detroit in the video which was obtained
00:23:31 --> 00:23:37 by TMZ they get their hands on everything and Curtis is seen working on a house
00:23:37 --> 00:23:43 she appears to be struggling before saying oh fart n-word.
00:23:45 --> 00:23:51 They don't even go together. After saying the slur, she immediately turns around,
00:23:52 --> 00:23:55 saying, What the F is that?
00:23:55 --> 00:23:57 That I just said.
00:23:58 --> 00:24:02 She then begins asking her film crew to kill the scene.
00:24:03 --> 00:24:06 One person is heard telling her that he can't.
00:24:07 --> 00:24:14 What they're saying, HGTV released a statement after the video was posted online.
00:24:16 --> 00:24:23 HGTV was recently made aware of the offensive racial comment made during the
00:24:23 --> 00:24:25 filming of Rehab Addicts.
00:24:25 --> 00:24:33 Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers,
00:24:33 --> 00:24:38 partners, and employees, it does not align with the values of HGTV.
00:24:38 --> 00:24:47 According, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms.
00:24:47 --> 00:24:54 We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our
00:24:54 --> 00:24:56 content and our workplace.
00:24:57 --> 00:25:00 Now, Ms. Curtis responded by saying this.
00:25:01 --> 00:25:08 Curtis posted about what happened on her Instagram story, saying that there is more to this.
00:25:09 --> 00:25:14 Curtis' full statement. There is more to this, but my family comes first,
00:25:14 --> 00:25:17 and I need to be a mom right now more than anything else.
00:25:18 --> 00:25:24 I will take the time to be as I've always been with you, transparent and honest.
00:25:24 --> 00:25:31 TMZ called me as I had just turned my phone on after being at school.
00:25:31 --> 00:25:35 I said this briefly, but there is more.
00:25:36 --> 00:25:41 She then posted a screenshot of a statement. She texts TMZ.
00:25:43 --> 00:25:50 And it says, regarding HGTV, I'm grateful for the 15-year journey we've shared.
00:25:50 --> 00:25:55 It's been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn't on my career.
00:25:55 --> 00:26:00 My focus at the moment is rightfully on my relationships and my community.
00:26:00 --> 00:26:04 The people truly know my character and where my,
00:26:05 --> 00:26:08 here is I want to
00:26:08 --> 00:26:11 be clear the word in question is
00:26:11 --> 00:26:19 wrong and not part of my vocabulary and I never and has never been and I apologize
00:26:19 --> 00:26:27 to everyone as discussed I'm a mom and I was doing mom things all day and unplugged
00:26:27 --> 00:26:30 I realized my shows were airing
00:26:30 --> 00:26:36 But my family is my priority, and I'm just catching up on all this now.
00:26:37 --> 00:26:43 Curtis followed up with her response with screenshots of people calling her names. Now...
00:26:45 --> 00:26:51 So much I want to say here. But even in her response, what did you not notice?
00:26:51 --> 00:26:54 No apology. There you go. No excuses.
00:26:54 --> 00:26:56 There you go. There you go.
00:26:56 --> 00:27:02 And that happens regularly with people like this that do these type of things.
00:27:03 --> 00:27:05 They never really apologize.
00:27:05 --> 00:27:10 And they never seem to show the remorse. I mean, it's almost Trump-like.
00:27:11 --> 00:27:15 You know, I don't hear the remorse. I'm sorry.
00:27:16 --> 00:27:19 She's just worried she got caught what's your
00:27:19 --> 00:27:22 thoughts on it yeah I mean I agree and I
00:27:22 --> 00:27:27 think when I was reading this video happened a couple years ago but is just
00:27:27 --> 00:27:32 coming out now but it's funny you know I went to her page when I saw it and
00:27:32 --> 00:27:36 you know of course she had an apology well it was a semi-apology on her page
00:27:36 --> 00:27:41 but Dave you know what I noticed so I'm going down reading the comments,
00:27:41 --> 00:27:44 all the black people are like,
00:27:44 --> 00:27:49 you know, you should, you know, you shouldn't say that that's wrong, blah, blah, blah.
00:27:50 --> 00:27:54 And all the white people are in there saying, well, you made a mistake.
00:27:54 --> 00:27:55 You know, things happen.
00:27:56 --> 00:28:03 We know you're not like that. And I mean, the divide was just so vast in there.
00:28:04 --> 00:28:08 But, you know, just all the white people, you know, I mean, and I mean,
00:28:08 --> 00:28:13 not all, But, you know, darn near the majority defending what she said as a
00:28:13 --> 00:28:16 mistake that, you know, she didn't mean it.
00:28:16 --> 00:28:23 So I'm actually surprised and I guess glad that HGTV took action because in
00:28:23 --> 00:28:28 my mind, when I think of HGTV, I think of a lot of a lot of old white ladies.
00:28:29 --> 00:28:35 And according to how this comment section was, they would have been OK with
00:28:35 --> 00:28:38 her making an apology and staying on the show and staying on the network.
00:28:40 --> 00:28:47 Okay well you'd be surprised glennar hctv is not watched by a bunch of old white
00:28:47 --> 00:28:53 ladies it's a lot of black people that watch hctv it's a very popular channel
00:28:53 --> 00:28:56 that's why we got so many uh,
00:28:57 --> 00:29:00 dyi people doing things you know
00:29:00 --> 00:29:03 all the time now because they're watching that channel
00:29:03 --> 00:29:07 and watching a lot of stuff that goes on it's just like with the food network
00:29:07 --> 00:29:10 and the shows they have on there you got a lot of people cooking that wouldn't
00:29:10 --> 00:29:16 never cook in their lives you know because and a lot of them are us believe
00:29:16 --> 00:29:21 it or not you know so when you have a figure like that that does something,
00:29:23 --> 00:29:27 That it's, you know, you know, here she's been on that channel for 15 years
00:29:27 --> 00:29:32 and I know she's built up quite a backing and, and so forth.
00:29:32 --> 00:29:38 So when you do something like this, it's, it's not good. I mean, it really isn't.
00:29:38 --> 00:29:44 And, and there's really no coming. Well, no, I shouldn't say that because she is white.
00:29:45 --> 00:29:48 We've, we've seen other people. We've seen other people come back from it.
00:29:49 --> 00:29:52 We know if what's the name?
00:29:54 --> 00:30:01 Slupe's buddy. Martha Stewart. If that was Oprah that did some of the stuff
00:30:01 --> 00:30:07 that Martha did back in the day that got her all jammed up, Oprah wouldn't have came back from that.
00:30:08 --> 00:30:11 Martha is bigger, is more popular now than she ever was.
00:30:12 --> 00:30:20 She definitely reinvented herself. Yeah, but you know, it goes with your favorite
00:30:20 --> 00:30:25 saying, you know, she has the Complexion for protection. Yeah.
00:30:26 --> 00:30:28 I think this girl will come back at some point.
00:30:31 --> 00:30:35 Just the fact that she said what she said, and using those particular words
00:30:35 --> 00:30:41 together, my thinking is, no, it's not the first time you said that word.
00:30:41 --> 00:30:43 You probably said it many times.
00:30:43 --> 00:30:48 You probably were more mad that you said, because her first statement was,
00:30:49 --> 00:30:51 what was I saying or what did I just say?
00:30:52 --> 00:30:55 You know, she wasn't worried about the N-word. She was worried about what she
00:30:55 --> 00:30:57 said. How she quit it. Right.
00:30:58 --> 00:31:03 You know, so what do you guys think? Hopefully you guys have some comments on this.
00:31:03 --> 00:31:07 You know, of course, you know, we got that and, you know, the whole Tourette
00:31:07 --> 00:31:14 situation going on with the other situation with Delroy, with Lindo, and Michael Jordan.
00:31:15 --> 00:31:18 I didn't pull that story to talk about it because it's been all over the news
00:31:18 --> 00:31:22 and everybody's talked about it. And just like it was said, everybody spent
00:31:22 --> 00:31:26 more time talking to John Davison than talking about his condition.
00:31:26 --> 00:31:32 And nobody checked with Michael Jordan and Delroy Lindo about how they felt about what happened.
00:31:33 --> 00:31:36 Because it was done to them while they were on stage.
00:31:37 --> 00:31:42 Tourette's is definitely a thing that happens.
00:31:43 --> 00:31:46 It's illness. It's a bad illness or whatever. And yes, people,
00:31:46 --> 00:31:47 you know, it is spontaneous.
00:31:48 --> 00:31:55 But this is not the first time this guy's done this Right You know So we just
00:31:55 --> 00:31:56 have to be careful You know,
00:31:57 --> 00:32:02 Even though it's used in music and whatever You know I had a young lady Say
00:32:02 --> 00:32:06 to me a white young lady I work with She said Well Dave if it's a word that
00:32:06 --> 00:32:10 you're not supposed to say Why is it in almost every rap song you listen to,
00:32:11 --> 00:32:14 Well I said because that's,
00:32:14 --> 00:32:17 us talking about cultural-type things.
00:32:18 --> 00:32:23 I don't necessarily agree with it, personally. You know, I would never do it,
00:32:23 --> 00:32:26 but that's how they get their point across, you know, in the song.
00:32:28 --> 00:32:32 But then if we listen to people who's buying the music, talking about white
00:32:32 --> 00:32:36 people who's buying the music, if we get heard saying it, then we're racists.
00:32:38 --> 00:32:43 You know, and it is kind of a catch-22, you know, but it is a catch-22.
00:32:44 --> 00:32:47 But it's the way you do it. It's the way you handle it. And,
00:32:47 --> 00:32:48 you know, you got to be smart about it.
00:32:49 --> 00:32:52 And Dave, you know, I think it's one of the things. I think we all know that
00:32:52 --> 00:32:56 when we're not around and they're singing or rapping the song. Yeah.
00:32:57 --> 00:33:01 They say whatever the words are, no matter, you know. They say the words.
00:33:02 --> 00:33:03 They definitely say the words.
00:33:03 --> 00:33:11 We know they do. So, but we'll see. You know, I'm sure she'll come back from this chance.
00:33:11 --> 00:33:14 She'll probably be back on TV in another six months to a year.
00:33:14 --> 00:33:18 Yeah, I mean, somebody pick her up. Yeah, somebody will. Somebody will.
00:33:19 --> 00:33:24 The president put her in charge of his renovations for the White House.
00:33:24 --> 00:33:30 Right, the ballroom. Yeah, the ballroom. Yeah, there you go. And a Kennedy Center.
00:33:32 --> 00:33:36 Yes. But anyway, what do you got for us? All right.
00:33:36 --> 00:33:38 So, you know, Dave, I thought this was interesting. And this is one of those
00:33:38 --> 00:33:45 things that happens where it's almost too dumb to be true, but unfortunately it is.
00:33:46 --> 00:33:51 So just coming out was a clip, and I think it was on C-SPAN,
00:33:51 --> 00:33:58 where there was a caller who called in to, you know, give a comment.
00:33:58 --> 00:34:02 I think they were talking about tariffs and Republican Democrats and the caller
00:34:02 --> 00:34:05 identified themselves as John Barron.
00:34:06 --> 00:34:12 And what a lot of people are saying is that John Barron was an alias that Trump
00:34:12 --> 00:34:14 used to use back in the day.
00:34:16 --> 00:34:19 So, you know, John, because that's his middle name, you know,
00:34:20 --> 00:34:25 Donald John Trump and Barron, because, you know, that's his son's first name.
00:34:25 --> 00:34:28 So they're saying that that's kind of how he put those names together.
00:34:28 --> 00:34:33 OK. And he will he would, I guess, back in the day, he would either answer calls
00:34:33 --> 00:34:38 from the media or he would make calls to the media, you know,
00:34:38 --> 00:34:40 pretending to kind of be somebody else.
00:34:40 --> 00:34:50 Okay so i'm gonna play this clip of who they think is someone we know calling into c-span,
00:34:51 --> 00:34:54 and i just want you to listen to it and tell me what you
00:34:54 --> 00:34:58 think do you think this could be president trump or do you think it might not
00:34:58 --> 00:35:07 be okay and and you have look you have to try and think of how i uh i'm trying
00:35:07 --> 00:35:12 to start it from the beginning but you know the instagram videos don't always work like that.
00:35:14 --> 00:35:16 Let's see. Let's see. Give me
00:35:16 --> 00:35:19 a second. We're having some technical difficulties. Just blame it on Dave.
00:35:20 --> 00:35:22 We're having some learning difficulties, people.
00:35:23 --> 00:35:26 Let's see. Let me go back.
00:35:27 --> 00:35:30 Let me go to see if I can hurry up and put the sound on.
00:35:31 --> 00:35:35 Look, this is the worst decision you've ever had in your life, practically.
00:35:37 --> 00:35:42 It's not Let it, Dave, I'm mad because I feel like you almost have to hear the beginning of it.
00:35:43 --> 00:35:47 Let me see how. I didn't have to hear it too much to know that that was Donald Trump.
00:35:48 --> 00:35:51 Yeah. Okay, hold on. Let me see if I can go to Twitter real quick.
00:35:52 --> 00:35:58 Hopefully, you don't make me log in and I can try to find this for you.
00:35:59 --> 00:36:03 Let's see. Dang, where's this video at? Media.
00:36:06 --> 00:36:11 Folks what i have to you know deal with every week you know all right are we ready john virginia.
00:36:13 --> 00:36:16 Okay john in virginia republican let's hear
00:36:16 --> 00:36:21 from you well this is john baron and you have look you have this is the worst
00:36:21 --> 00:36:26 decision you ever have in your life practically jack and jack's gonna agree
00:36:26 --> 00:36:30 with me right but this is a terrible decision and you have hakeem jeffries who
00:36:30 --> 00:36:35 he's a dope and you have Chuck Schumer who can't cook a cheeseburger,
00:36:36 --> 00:36:38 of course these people are happy. Of course these people are happy.
00:36:38 --> 00:36:42 But true Americans will not be happy. And you have the woman earlier.
00:36:42 --> 00:36:43 I assume she's a woman. She's a Democrat.
00:36:44 --> 00:36:47 But she said she's disgraced.
00:36:47 --> 00:36:52 She's devastated by this. We'll go to Chester, who's in Baton Rouge.
00:36:52 --> 00:36:55 So C-SPAN actually cut this person off.
00:36:56 --> 00:37:00 But Dave, I mean, like, you know, Trump has a certain way of talking that's
00:37:00 --> 00:37:03 just... Oh, that's his cadence and everything. Well, this is John Barron.
00:37:04 --> 00:37:06 And you have, look, this is the worst decision you've ever had.
00:37:07 --> 00:37:10 Yeah, so, I mean, but it's just so funny because it's like.
00:37:11 --> 00:37:15 John Barron. Right. First of all, you know, she said, you know,
00:37:16 --> 00:37:17 she said John from Virginia.
00:37:18 --> 00:37:22 So why, you know, why he had to put his whole name out there?
00:37:22 --> 00:37:25 You know, you know, he was trying to prove a point.
00:37:25 --> 00:37:29 I would have thought it was Trump. Even if you hadn't said anything,
00:37:29 --> 00:37:31 I would have thought it was Trump from the very start.
00:37:32 --> 00:37:36 The very first few words he said made me think it was him. And just the way
00:37:36 --> 00:37:40 he talks. Well, you know, I guess she's a Democrat. She says she's a Democrat.
00:37:41 --> 00:37:42 Can't cook a cheeseburger.
00:37:44 --> 00:37:49 And Trump is always putting people down. And that's what he did the whole call.
00:37:50 --> 00:37:54 And, you know, and I think that lady realized who it was. And that's why she
00:37:54 --> 00:37:56 cut him off. Yeah, I'm sure.
00:37:56 --> 00:38:01 Yeah. Yeah. She said, Oh no, I'm not getting involved in this, you know, you know, so.
00:38:02 --> 00:38:05 But yeah, you can't do that.
00:38:05 --> 00:38:11 But that just tells you how childish and he's got to be in control.
00:38:11 --> 00:38:16 You know, what he's supposed to do is State of the Union speech tonight.
00:38:16 --> 00:38:17 Oh, is that tonight? Yeah.
00:38:18 --> 00:38:21 Yeah, I'm sure he's going to talk about how great everything is.
00:38:22 --> 00:38:30 You know, tell us that America's in his best shape ever and all of that kind of stuff.
00:38:30 --> 00:38:35 Meanwhile, you know, you got Supreme Court overturning just about everything
00:38:35 --> 00:38:37 that you try to do over the last six months.
00:38:38 --> 00:38:42 You know, did you see Sherrell Parker, Mayor Sherrell Parker,
00:38:42 --> 00:38:49 in Philadelphia when they were putting the art back up on the walls that had been taken down?
00:38:49 --> 00:38:53 And, you know, she was pretty emotional. She was saying to the workers, thank you.
00:38:53 --> 00:38:59 Thank you for putting these back up, you know, because they should have never came down.
00:39:00 --> 00:39:02 No, they shouldn't have. They should have never came down.
00:39:02 --> 00:39:07 But it had to go to the Supreme Court for them to overrule them.
00:39:07 --> 00:39:12 Why are we letting this man get away with the kind of stuff that he's getting away with?
00:39:12 --> 00:39:17 Even making phone calls like that, you know, I mean, and I don't think,
00:39:17 --> 00:39:21 I don't think that, did you read any of the comments?
00:39:21 --> 00:39:23 Did anybody call them out on it? It did.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:29 Was there any response or are you talking about for this Trump thing? Yeah. Yeah. Of course.
00:39:30 --> 00:39:33 Everybody said it was, everybody said it was Trump, right? Yeah.
00:39:34 --> 00:39:37 Yeah. I mean, you had a couple of Republicans like, oh, this is AI and,
00:39:38 --> 00:39:41 but I mean, it was a live broadcast.
00:39:41 --> 00:39:43 So, you know, they, they can't deny it.
00:39:44 --> 00:39:47 That's another thing that Republicans love to say too. It's AI.
00:39:48 --> 00:39:52 Have you, have you noticed that? They say AI, everything's AI, you know?
00:39:52 --> 00:39:56 So, you know, so when it comes to Democrats and the Democrats post something
00:39:56 --> 00:40:00 that they don't like, you know, they don't say it's AI.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:07 So, but I don't know, man, I tell you, the world we are in, man The world we
00:40:07 --> 00:40:11 are in Alright, we're gonna move on to our next Story.
00:40:12 --> 00:40:20 Went to college to review professors' hot mic remarks about black students during virtual meeting.
00:40:23 --> 00:40:27 I didn't mean to do all these stories. They just kind of leave at me,
00:40:27 --> 00:40:30 you know, but I had to laugh when I was thinking about it because they all kind of tie together.
00:40:31 --> 00:40:36 A Hunter College professor is receiving calls for her termination days after
00:40:36 --> 00:40:43 remarks she made during a community education council meeting. went viral.
00:40:43 --> 00:40:47 A hundred college professors receiving calls for her termination,
00:40:47 --> 00:40:52 and it says that Allison Friedman, an associate professor in the Department
00:40:52 --> 00:40:55 of Biological Sciences,
00:40:55 --> 00:41:00 was overheard responding to an eighth-grade student from Community Action School
00:41:00 --> 00:41:09 who feared her school on the Upper West Side would be closed after or relocated
00:41:09 --> 00:41:12 by the Department of Education. So let's see.
00:41:14 --> 00:41:18 Give me one moment here. She said, they're too dumb. This is what she said.
00:41:19 --> 00:41:23 They're too dumb to know they're in a bad school.
00:41:23 --> 00:41:29 If you train a black person well enough, train a black person well enough, okay.
00:41:30 --> 00:41:33 They'll know to use the back.
00:41:34 --> 00:41:41 You don't have to tell them anymore. Freeman said to visual gasp by many of
00:41:41 --> 00:41:47 the attendees of the Zoom call, which was a hybrid meeting at the Joan of Arc School building,
00:41:48 --> 00:41:50 154 West 93rd Street.
00:41:51 --> 00:41:57 Freeman told Newsweek that she was attempting to explain systematic racism in
00:41:57 --> 00:42:05 a side conversation and remarks were heard as she inadvertently unmuted herself.
00:42:06 --> 00:42:11 The school released a statement on Saturday calling Freeman's remarks abhorrent,
00:42:12 --> 00:42:15 and that the situation is under review.
00:42:16 --> 00:42:21 Hunter College is aware of an incident during a recent virtual meeting of the
00:42:21 --> 00:42:25 New York City School District, three Community Education Council,
00:42:25 --> 00:42:31 District three, Community Education Council, in which the remarks were heard
00:42:31 --> 00:42:37 coming from a district parent who also is a Hunter employee.
00:42:37 --> 00:42:44 The statement began, even as these remarks were made in the individual role as a private citizen.
00:42:45 --> 00:42:54 We understand that the district is conducting an investigation into the matter.
00:42:54 --> 00:43:00 Hunter College is reviewing the situation under the New York Nation policies.
00:43:01 --> 00:43:09 It's concluded in service to Hunter College, we expect our community member,
00:43:10 --> 00:43:17 actions, and words to comport with our institutional identity, values, and policies.
00:43:17 --> 00:43:25 We stand firm in our enduring commitment to sustain an inclusive educational environment.
00:43:26 --> 00:43:32 That is free of discrimination of any kind, in which people of all identities
00:43:32 --> 00:43:34 will feel welcome and we can thrive.
00:43:35 --> 00:43:38 In her own statement, Freeman said her remarks were not directed at that.
00:43:38 --> 00:43:43 The student speaker, nor do they reflect her beliefs.
00:43:44 --> 00:43:48 Regardless of the context, my words were wrong and caused real harm, Freeman said.
00:43:49 --> 00:43:53 I take full responsibility for the impact and I'm deeply sorry to the students,
00:43:54 --> 00:44:01 families, educators, and community members who were there and that I heard.
00:44:01 --> 00:44:06 Okay. Was that another apology, non-apology type situation?
00:44:06 --> 00:44:10 This one was definitely better. But do you think it was better?
00:44:10 --> 00:44:13 Okay. All right. It was better. Yeah, it was better.
00:44:13 --> 00:44:18 But even still, that was the eighth grade student. Right.
00:44:19 --> 00:44:22 And even though you didn't mean to say it live,
00:44:24 --> 00:44:28 you didn't mean for your mic to be live. And we all have done this.
00:44:28 --> 00:44:32 We all have hit the mute buttons when we're talking to other people and said
00:44:32 --> 00:44:34 things that you didn't want.
00:44:34 --> 00:44:37 I mean, after all, if you hit the mute button, you don't want it to be heard,
00:44:37 --> 00:44:39 right? Right. Isn't that what you're doing?
00:44:41 --> 00:44:46 So obviously, it wasn't that she didn't want to say what she had on her mind.
00:44:47 --> 00:44:50 The fact is that, once again, she
00:44:50 --> 00:44:54 was caught for what she said what's your
00:44:54 --> 00:44:57 thoughts i mean kind of what you said
00:44:57 --> 00:45:00 you know when you kind of gave the so i saw the video i didn't know the background
00:45:00 --> 00:45:05 behind it but you know the video itself speaks for itself but when you give
00:45:05 --> 00:45:11 me some of the background it just sounded like a lie you know she she said that
00:45:11 --> 00:45:14 thinking nobody could hear her and you know that's just what it was.
00:45:14 --> 00:45:19 And then she tried to kind of backtrack and say she was saying for different
00:45:19 --> 00:45:23 reasons, which I think we all know that doesn't make no sense.
00:45:24 --> 00:45:27 No, you got caught. You screwed up. Look, let me tell you, man,
00:45:28 --> 00:45:35 I know we use, at work, we use the Microsoft Teams and we use the IM to communicate
00:45:35 --> 00:45:36 with each other in the building.
00:45:37 --> 00:45:41 And I know one time I sent something. It wasn't anything bad.
00:45:41 --> 00:45:43 It wasn't a negative comment.
00:45:44 --> 00:45:47 I was just making an observation, and I was sending it to one person.
00:45:48 --> 00:45:53 But I made the mistake and sent it to the last person I was talking to.
00:45:54 --> 00:45:56 Now, like I said, it wasn't anything derogatory or anything.
00:45:57 --> 00:46:02 But for some reason, the person I sent it to decided to, and it was about,
00:46:02 --> 00:46:07 I was talking about one particular person and her actions and what she was doing.
00:46:07 --> 00:46:12 At the time and this person
00:46:12 --> 00:46:14 who got the text actually went over
00:46:14 --> 00:46:17 to the person and told her what that
00:46:17 --> 00:46:23 said yeah yeah
00:46:23 --> 00:46:26 so you know but like i said it wasn't anything
00:46:26 --> 00:46:29 negative i didn't say anything about her or anything like
00:46:29 --> 00:46:36 that i was just like she she she was what i made a comment was this particular
00:46:36 --> 00:46:46 person was spending a lot of time in her supervisor's office every morning and everybody saw it.
00:46:46 --> 00:46:52 Everybody commented on it. I said, oh, there she is again in that office again,
00:46:52 --> 00:46:54 not doing any work. That's what I said.
00:46:55 --> 00:47:00 Since you're saying it on the air, I'm assuming she don't work with y'all no more in that office.
00:47:02 --> 00:47:05 She still works for the state, but you know, you know, but,
00:47:07 --> 00:47:09 but yeah, it was just a fact, but
00:47:09 --> 00:47:12 it wasn't like, I wasn't trying to be derogatory, you know, but you know,
00:47:13 --> 00:47:19 these things do happen when you might, but you're, but then my point here is
00:47:19 --> 00:47:22 you say, or you do what you,
00:47:23 --> 00:47:27 want to say or do you know what i mean it's not like you're not trying to do
00:47:27 --> 00:47:33 those things or say those things because it's really what you want to say just like the last story,
00:47:34 --> 00:47:41 and you know and just like the actions from the trump administration not allowing
00:47:41 --> 00:47:45 having that meeting and not having any of the black farmers there i mean all
00:47:45 --> 00:47:47 of this is a trend all of it is,
00:47:48 --> 00:47:51 hey we don't want you at the table we don't want you there,
00:47:52 --> 00:47:57 we don't want you know we don't we have things that we want to say about you
00:47:57 --> 00:48:01 because we don't particularly like how you do things or who you are or whatever
00:48:01 --> 00:48:05 the case may be or let's keep it real we don't like your skin color,
00:48:05 --> 00:48:11 you know so I just think that it's unfortunate and you know this is a child,
00:48:12 --> 00:48:18 whether you meant to do it or not I'm sure her feelings were hurt right And once again,
00:48:19 --> 00:48:21 the story's made all about her.
00:48:21 --> 00:48:28 Why not more talking about how the young lady felt and making sure she was protected? Right.
00:48:29 --> 00:48:36 And unfortunately, that's how all these stories are. It's about the side who made the mistake.
00:48:36 --> 00:48:39 They seem to get all the press. They seem to get all the coverage.
00:48:40 --> 00:48:46 And the persons or the people this is being directed to is kind of lost in the background.
00:48:46 --> 00:48:53 So. It's amazing. I was trying to find three different stories to talk about today.
00:48:54 --> 00:48:57 But here we are. They're all in line with each other.
00:48:59 --> 00:49:05 We definitely have to do better. We definitely have to find ourselves in a better place than where we are.
00:49:06 --> 00:49:15 Because this is not, you know, the divide, the situational situations that we find ourselves in.
00:49:16 --> 00:49:20 If we keep going the way we're going, the next three years is not going to be good.
00:49:22 --> 00:49:29 I got too many instances every day now. We can find a story like these every day now. Yeah.
00:49:30 --> 00:49:34 So mess around maybe every hour now. Every minute.
00:49:35 --> 00:49:39 Because they are out there. Especially with social media. Like,
00:49:39 --> 00:49:40 you know, we really hear about them now.
00:49:41 --> 00:49:46 Yeah, we definitely do. I mean, the worst thing that could have happened is
00:49:46 --> 00:49:50 social media because now everybody's business is out there. Right.
00:49:51 --> 00:49:53 You know you know it used to
00:49:53 --> 00:49:57 be when we were in the supermarkets we would look at the the
00:49:57 --> 00:50:02 the scandal sheets the national the star and all that those papers and say oh
00:50:02 --> 00:50:07 man look at this all of this all that information everything there now man it's
00:50:07 --> 00:50:13 at your fingertips every every moment look you imagine being a celebrity these
00:50:13 --> 00:50:15 days and going to a ball game you sit down,
00:50:15 --> 00:50:19 and you you're just hanging out with somebody that you want to hang out with
00:50:19 --> 00:50:20 and the next thing you You know,
00:50:21 --> 00:50:25 so-and-so's dating and, you know, they're hooked up, you know.
00:50:25 --> 00:50:31 I mean, it's just crazy nowadays. You can't do anything without somebody finding out.
00:50:31 --> 00:50:34 I think they were talking about Mike Epps made a joke online.
00:50:34 --> 00:50:38 Did you hear about that? Made a joke over the weekend.
00:50:39 --> 00:50:42 And people really blasted him for it because they didn't like what he had to
00:50:42 --> 00:50:45 say. You know, one of them kind of cancel type jokes.
00:50:46 --> 00:50:49 Yeah, wasn't it about Nicki Minaj? Yeah, yeah, yeah, because of Nicki.
00:50:50 --> 00:50:52 Yeah okay you know you know they ain't gonna
00:50:52 --> 00:50:57 go over well you know nikki definitely that won't
00:50:57 --> 00:51:01 be that will be a big problem so you
00:51:01 --> 00:51:05 can't even joke anymore jokes i mean you imagine writing a joke as a comedian
00:51:05 --> 00:51:13 nowadays and say okay uh can i say this right or is it funny enough if i take
00:51:13 --> 00:51:17 this out or you know that's why a guy like Dave Chappelle,
00:51:18 --> 00:51:21 that's what makes him so unique because Dave Chappelle don't care,
00:51:22 --> 00:51:28 I mean, he takes it right to the edge, you know, and he's going to say what he has to say.
00:51:29 --> 00:51:31 So, but the white comedians don't seem to be.
00:51:33 --> 00:51:36 There's a couple of white comedians. They just say whatever they want to say.
00:51:38 --> 00:51:43 I won't even say any names, but they do. Right. But anyway, that brings us to
00:51:43 --> 00:51:46 Leonard's favorite part of the show, which is Dave's Corner.
00:51:47 --> 00:51:51 Since we're still in Black History Month, I wanted to ask a simple question.
00:51:51 --> 00:51:54 And see how hard I can make this for Leonard, though.
00:51:56 --> 00:52:03 Give me your Mount Rushmore of five, I mean, I'm sorry, Mount Rushmore of black
00:52:03 --> 00:52:06 historical figures of all time.
00:52:06 --> 00:52:08 Mount Rushmore is only four people, by the way.
00:52:09 --> 00:52:18 So give me your five that you would think would be the Mount Rushmore black
00:52:18 --> 00:52:20 historical figures of all time. Sure, Dave.
00:52:21 --> 00:52:26 It's going to be Malcolm, Martin, Nelson, and Lewis.
00:52:27 --> 00:52:33 Wow. Okay. There you go. That's an interesting group right there.
00:52:34 --> 00:52:36 Yeah. It's an interesting group.
00:52:36 --> 00:52:45 Malcolm, Martin, Farrakhan, and you said what? Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela.
00:52:45 --> 00:52:48 That's a hard group to beat.
00:52:48 --> 00:52:51 I had to say that you took some time and thought about this.
00:52:52 --> 00:52:54 No, I mean, right, right off the head, you know.
00:52:55 --> 00:52:59 Right off the head. Right off the dome, Dave.
00:53:00 --> 00:53:02 Well, I had to figure you were going to say Martin. I had to figure you were
00:53:02 --> 00:53:06 going to say Farrakhan. I mean, not Farrakhan. No, I'm out.
00:53:06 --> 00:53:13 I feel, I kind of figured those two were going to come out. I didn't expect you to say Mandela.
00:53:13 --> 00:53:17 Mm-hmm. And I didn't expect you to say Farrakhan, I'll be honest with you.
00:53:18 --> 00:53:20 Well, Dave, you know, I always talk about Farrakhan.
00:53:20 --> 00:53:25 And I mean, I'm not Muslim or anything, but, you know, that man is very intelligent.
00:53:25 --> 00:53:28 And I mean, I used to listen to a lot of his stuff.
00:53:29 --> 00:53:31 You know, I was listening to something the other day. He was talking about Jesse
00:53:31 --> 00:53:36 Jackson. He was saying, you know, that that was really, really good.
00:53:36 --> 00:53:40 So, yeah, long story short, Paracons, all good in my book.
00:53:41 --> 00:53:47 OK, all right. All right. I'm going to change it up a little bit. Here you go.
00:53:48 --> 00:53:51 Change up your own question after you ask me. Yeah, no, no.
00:53:51 --> 00:53:55 But I'm going to give I'm going to give answers that like you.
00:53:55 --> 00:53:58 Gave a Dave kind of answer just then.
00:53:58 --> 00:54:00 I'm going to give a Leonard kind of answer. Okay.
00:54:02 --> 00:54:06 I'm going to start with your boy, Ali. Okay.
00:54:07 --> 00:54:11 For those that don't know, Leonard is a big Muhammad Ali fan.
00:54:12 --> 00:54:17 Then I'm going to go Michael Jordan. Oh, okay. Is that B. Jordan?
00:54:19 --> 00:54:22 Which Jordan are we talking about? Did
00:54:22 --> 00:54:24 you ever hear him talk about when he met Michael jordan you know
00:54:24 --> 00:54:28 michael didn't acknowledge her no i
00:54:28 --> 00:54:31 didn't hear that yeah he said he said he
00:54:31 --> 00:54:35 said he was so he was so hyped to meet him and then michael just kind of walked
00:54:35 --> 00:54:40 past him he didn't know who he was damn that's crazy yeah that's crazy yeah
00:54:40 --> 00:54:49 barack obama okay b.o then of course mlk okay,
00:54:51 --> 00:54:56 Oh, that's my four. I figured that I would go,
00:54:56 --> 00:55:04 you know, I would go with people that were influential in different ways who
00:55:04 --> 00:55:06 changed the course of history.
00:55:08 --> 00:55:12 And I think each one of these guys did that at some point.
00:55:13 --> 00:55:16 So, but I like your list. I really do. I thought that was a great list,
00:55:16 --> 00:55:19 by the way. So I will give you two of those on that list.
00:55:20 --> 00:55:24 I'm so shocked that you either. No, you're not.
00:55:24 --> 00:55:27 No, you're not. That's right. Because that's not normally how you go.
00:55:28 --> 00:55:29 I was waiting for you to see.
00:55:30 --> 00:55:33 Who? Arlen Wayne. Who? Oh, come on.
00:55:34 --> 00:55:38 Come on. That's what I was waiting on. Marlon Wayne.
00:55:39 --> 00:55:42 And maybe Tracy Morgan. Well, now we're talking about comedians.
00:55:42 --> 00:55:45 I might have had some answers. I might have shot you.
00:55:45 --> 00:55:51 Okay. Let me say something. Give me a Mount Rushmore of comedians.
00:55:52 --> 00:55:57 I'm just curious. So, you know, it's really changed a lot in recent years.
00:55:58 --> 00:56:01 Go with your gut. Go with the one. Yep, yep. So I'm going to go with my favorite
00:56:01 --> 00:56:05 comedian, Mike Epps. Okay.
00:56:06 --> 00:56:10 Damn, you know, really after that, it's kind of like, who, who, who, who.
00:56:11 --> 00:56:16 I'm going to go with Mike Epps. I'm going to take it back. No,
00:56:16 --> 00:56:19 I'm not even going to take it back on you, Dave, because I don't feel like hearing your mouth.
00:56:20 --> 00:56:23 I'm going to go with Martin Lawrence. Okay.
00:56:24 --> 00:56:26 Trying to think of who else is there.
00:56:28 --> 00:56:31 Chris Tucker, when he did stand-up. Okay.
00:56:33 --> 00:56:36 And after seeing the most recent special, I'm going to go with some more.
00:56:37 --> 00:56:43 Okay. All right. Okay. Yeah. See? He's back to normal, people.
00:56:44 --> 00:56:49 Okay. He's back to normal. Okay. That was an interesting list. I met at some more.
00:56:50 --> 00:56:54 Definitely. He's definitely right up there when it comes to comedians.
00:56:55 --> 00:57:01 Martin. Up there when it comes to comedians. I think Mike Epps would be on my,
00:57:02 --> 00:57:05 Mount Rushmore, but I mean, I like Mike Epps.
00:57:05 --> 00:57:11 I get, well, okay, here's mine. Mine would be Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor.
00:57:12 --> 00:57:15 I got through my boy George Carlin in there.
00:57:17 --> 00:57:24 George Carlin? Yeah, George Carlin was a white comedian, but very, very funny.
00:57:25 --> 00:57:30 And my last one, Dave Chappelle. Okay.
00:57:31 --> 00:57:35 Dave Chappelle. Yeah. That's where I would go.
00:57:35 --> 00:57:39 So, you know, I did forget. I was just thinking now. I'd probably take one of
00:57:39 --> 00:57:41 mine out and I would put in Red Fox.
00:57:42 --> 00:57:46 I thought he was hilarious. Stand up. Red Fox was a little. And Sanford's son was my...
00:57:47 --> 00:57:53 I'll still watch that, Sanford's son, to this day and still laugh until I fall on the floor.
00:57:53 --> 00:57:56 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Red Fox was funny. He would be in my next group.
00:57:57 --> 00:58:01 He would be in my next group. But those, you know, I would put him,
00:58:01 --> 00:58:04 I would put Bernie in that next group, too. Bernie was hysterical.
00:58:05 --> 00:58:09 Bernie Mac was, and I would put Chris Rock in that group, too.
00:58:10 --> 00:58:11 Gotcha. Okay. Are you a Chris Rock fan?
00:58:13 --> 00:58:17 Uh, moderately. I mean, I'm not a fan, but, I mean, I think he's funny. Okay.
00:58:18 --> 00:58:25 All right. Okay. Don't, don't, don't say, because he might come slap you,
00:58:25 --> 00:58:27 you know, all about it, so. Yeah.
