In this gripping episode of Newz and Trendz with Dave and Len, we dive deep into the shocking confession of Crystal Mangum, who recently admitted to fabricating rape allegations in the infamous Duke Lacrosse case. We explore the ramifications of her admission and the ongoing dialogue surrounding race, privilege, and justice in America.
We then shift our focus to the contentious acquittal of Daniel Penny, the Marine who put Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold on a New York subway. Amid public outrage and debates on self-defense, we discuss the reactions from different quarters, including an audacious celebration by Penny that has sparked further controversy.
Lastly, we address the pervasive influence of social media on young lives, examining recent statistics revealing that nearly half of U.S. teenagers are online constantly. We consider the implications for mental health and social dynamics and the global attempts to regulate online activity to safeguard teenagers.

00:01:12 --> 00:01:15 Man, I can't call it. It's another new week.
00:01:15 --> 00:01:20 A couple days after the Eagles won, you know, that was a great game.
00:01:20 --> 00:01:25 They beat their interstate rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that was just
00:01:25 --> 00:01:26 a great, great game, man.
00:01:26 --> 00:01:29 They really played well. Did you watch any of the game that night?
00:01:29 --> 00:01:32 I did not get to see a single bit of it. Are you serious, man?
00:01:32 --> 00:01:37 I told you my daughter had a dance beside all.
00:01:38 --> 00:01:45 That's what look he that's what he said he was at a dance recital people keep that in mind i.e,
00:01:46 --> 00:01:50 dance okay all right hey hey i i
00:01:50 --> 00:01:54 i got the text messages to prove it because i i i i was talking to you i was
00:01:54 --> 00:01:59 telling you i like and and and and all the dads and they're looking at their
00:01:59 --> 00:02:04 phone looking at their phones yeah that's the only thing a couple of moms too
00:02:04 --> 00:02:07 yeah that's the only thing You got stuff like that going on.
00:02:09 --> 00:02:12 We got those types of things going on. You got games going on.
00:02:12 --> 00:02:13 Everybody wants to see it.
00:02:14 --> 00:02:18 And there's always some kind of event going on at the same time that you've
00:02:18 --> 00:02:21 got to split your time up with, you know.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:25 But thank God for phones and thank God for these apps now that you can pull
00:02:25 --> 00:02:29 up the games and so forth and try to act like you're paying attention.
00:02:29 --> 00:02:33 But you're not, you know, those type of things.
00:02:33 --> 00:02:37 And especially now, a lot of people be having money on the game.
00:02:37 --> 00:02:39 So, you know, they're winning.
00:02:39 --> 00:02:44 But it was a great win for the Eagles. The Eagles had a very controversial week
00:02:44 --> 00:02:48 with a lot of media, bad media going on.
00:02:48 --> 00:02:52 So they shut everybody up on Sunday, and that's all that matters.
00:02:52 --> 00:02:59 So 10 straight games, 11-2, on their way to the playoffs and hopefully to the
00:02:59 --> 00:03:01 Super Bowl. So we'll see.
00:03:01 --> 00:03:08 So we'll see what happens. And other than that, it's starting to seem a lot like Christmas, man.
00:03:08 --> 00:03:11 You know, we're a week away from Christmas weekend.
00:03:12 --> 00:03:13 The end of the year.
00:03:14 --> 00:03:19 Unbelievable. I know. The year goes faster and faster, man.
00:03:19 --> 00:03:24 I cannot wait to bypass this whole holiday season and just start the beginning of the year fresh.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:29 Yeah, well, don't worry. It'll happen in a couple weeks.
00:03:32 --> 00:03:36 We're almost to the winter solstice you
00:03:36 --> 00:03:39 know so we get you know where
00:03:39 --> 00:03:42 the time will you know we'll have the shortest day of
00:03:42 --> 00:03:45 the year and then start the days will
00:03:45 --> 00:03:50 start getting longer again you know there we go so that's actually next week
00:03:50 --> 00:03:57 come to think of it already so but here we are with news and trends guys we
00:03:57 --> 00:04:02 got a few things to talk about tonight so we're going to go ahead and get started into our topics.
00:04:04 --> 00:04:10 I wanted to start off with this topic and i and i want to try to handle it with care,
00:04:10 --> 00:04:14 because it is a sensitive subject especially right now with everything that's
00:04:14 --> 00:04:23 going on in the world right now but this story actually kind of popped off the
00:04:23 --> 00:04:25 page to me when i was looking,
00:04:25 --> 00:04:32 at things to talk about for the show because i remember when all of this happened and i remembered.
00:04:33 --> 00:04:36 How if it actually caused
00:04:36 --> 00:04:40 a lot of craziness around it
00:04:40 --> 00:04:49 but then here we are now and the aftermath so i'm going to read i'm going to
00:04:49 --> 00:04:52 read the story and i just want and i want to talk about it after i get finished
00:04:52 --> 00:04:58 reading now do you remember this when this happened i i do i remember Okay.
00:04:59 --> 00:05:02 I just wanted to make sure you remember it. Okay. All right.
00:05:02 --> 00:05:10 So here we go. It's Crystal Mangum admits to fabricating rape allegations against
00:05:10 --> 00:05:13 Duke lacrosse players in 2006.
00:05:13 --> 00:05:16 This was a big story for those of you who remember.
00:05:17 --> 00:05:19 This was crazy. I remember when it happened.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:25 It said in a recent interview on the independent media platform,
00:05:25 --> 00:05:30 Let's Talk With Kat, The woman at the center of the infamous Duke lacrosse case,
00:05:30 --> 00:05:37 Crystal Mangum, confessed to fabricating her allegations of rape against three
00:05:37 --> 00:05:39 Duke University lacrosse players.
00:05:40 --> 00:05:48 Mangum's omission comes years after the initial accusations led to a national
00:05:48 --> 00:05:52 dialogue on race, privilege, and justice,
00:05:52 --> 00:05:58 ultimately resulting in the players' exoneration.
00:05:59 --> 00:06:05 I testified falsely against them by saying they raped me when they didn't,
00:06:05 --> 00:06:09 and that was wrong, Mangum stated during the interview.
00:06:09 --> 00:06:13 I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me.
00:06:13 --> 00:06:22 This startling revelation sheds light on the events surrounding the March 2006
00:06:22 --> 00:06:29 incident where Mangum claims she was raped at a party involving the lacrosse team,
00:06:29 --> 00:06:35 an allegation that sparked widespread outrage and intense media scrutiny,
00:06:35 --> 00:06:38 reports WRAL News.
00:06:38 --> 00:06:41 Following her accusations, players David Evans,
00:06:42 --> 00:06:51 Colin Finnerty, and Reece Segalman were arrested and a firestorm of racial tensions
00:06:51 --> 00:06:53 erupted in the community.
00:06:57 --> 00:07:02 Allegations, the players were ultimately found innocent of any wrongdoing.
00:07:02 --> 00:07:07 The case took a toll on them both personally and professionally.
00:07:08 --> 00:07:14 They faced public ridicule and were forced to navigate the legal repercussions of Mangum's claims.
00:07:15 --> 00:07:22 In a turn of events, Mangum was not prosecuted for perjury due to questioning
00:07:22 --> 00:07:25 raised about her mental health.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:31 She may have actually believed the many different stories that Steve was telling,
00:07:32 --> 00:07:36 former North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper noted at the time.
00:07:37 --> 00:07:41 Mangum's circumstances were complicated further by her turbulent past,
00:07:42 --> 00:07:48 including a background filled with trauma, excuse me, and mental health struggles.
00:07:48 --> 00:07:56 Years later, the fallout from the Duke lacrosse case still resonates as Magnum's
00:07:56 --> 00:08:02 unfounded claim led to significant repercussions such as cancellation of a lacrosse
00:08:02 --> 00:08:05 game against Georgetown in March of 2008.
00:08:07 --> 00:08:13 The former district attorney, Mike Natong, who oversaw the prosecution, faced his own downfall.
00:08:13 --> 00:08:20 He was disbarred in 2007 for lying in court and suppressing DNA evidence,
00:08:20 --> 00:08:23 which ultimately cleared the accused player.
00:08:23 --> 00:08:29 While Mangum has since continued to address the events surrounding that fateful night,
00:08:29 --> 00:08:39 she also maintained a level of ambiguity about what truly transpired transpired in her 2008 memoir,
00:08:39 --> 00:08:46 last dance for grace the crystal mangum story she asserted that something happened
00:08:46 --> 00:08:51 that night but stopped short of providing clarity of her assertion in a series
00:08:51 --> 00:08:55 of personal crises mangum faced legal troubles of her own including a first
00:08:55 --> 00:08:59 degree murder charge for the death of her boyfriend
00:08:59 --> 00:09:07 Her past is marred not only by the Duke scandal, but also by earlier allegations
00:09:07 --> 00:09:10 of sexual assault against her when she was a teenager,
00:09:11 --> 00:09:18 which went unresolved due to her reluctance to pursue charges out of fear.
00:09:19 --> 00:09:24 Vincent Clark, a friend and co-author of Magnum's memoir, expressed empathy
00:09:24 --> 00:09:31 for her struggle. I hope people realize how difficult it is to be her, he remarked.
00:09:31 --> 00:09:36 Highlighting the sensitivity surrounding her complex history.
00:09:37 --> 00:09:42 Mangum herself has acknowledged her mental health issues, which have affected
00:09:42 --> 00:09:44 her narrative throughout her life.
00:09:44 --> 00:09:51 As the revelations unfold, the dialogue surrounding the Duke LaCrosse case and
00:09:51 --> 00:09:57 Mangum's confessions continue to challenge societal perceptions of truth,
00:09:57 --> 00:10:04 justice, and the lasting impact of trauma on individuals involved in high-profile cases.
00:10:04 --> 00:10:09 Now, I had to read all of that because I wanted to try to get everything in
00:10:09 --> 00:10:15 there because, of course, this story was such a firestorm when it happened.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:17 You know i've been you know ever since
00:10:17 --> 00:10:23 this whole thing with diddy and you know of course the allegation coming out
00:10:23 --> 00:10:30 about jay-z now the person did you hear the lady the third the person who was
00:10:30 --> 00:10:37 the 13 year old is walking back some of the stuff she said and not sure if it was right.
00:10:39 --> 00:10:40 You know,
00:10:41 --> 00:10:50 rape is a very hard thing when it comes to dealing with all that a woman or
00:10:50 --> 00:10:54 a man has to go through in order to prove it.
00:10:55 --> 00:11:01 A lot of people are reluctant in pressing charges because of the scrutiny that comes along with it.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:10 This whole situation with this young lady, I remember right as soon as he said
00:11:10 --> 00:11:14 it happened, you know, quite right away, they said it never happened.
00:11:15 --> 00:11:16 And they said she was lying.
00:11:17 --> 00:11:22 Of course, there were three young white men that were involved.
00:11:23 --> 00:11:28 And, you know, it just didn't look, the optics just didn't look good and did
00:11:28 --> 00:11:30 not look like they were going to be in her favor.
00:11:31 --> 00:11:40 She came forward to try to get them to rule in her favor, which just didn't happen.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:46 But now, all these years later, she's saying that she lied about it and that
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 what she said happened didn't happen.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:56 Basically saying, I guess, without saying it, that it was consensual.
00:11:57 --> 00:11:58 But something happened.
00:11:59 --> 00:12:02 But here's a woman that says that she's had
00:12:02 --> 00:12:08 a bunch of trauma in her life and has been raped before you know and it makes
00:12:08 --> 00:12:13 it hard for women to come out and want to talk about this because they just
00:12:13 --> 00:12:19 don't feel they're protected enough to be able to come out on the other side okay,
00:12:20 --> 00:12:21 what's your thoughts about all
00:12:21 --> 00:12:27 of this i mean i definitely agree i think i mean to be honest her coming,
00:12:27 --> 00:12:31 and I didn't personally see it, but I heard someone said that she came out earlier,
00:12:31 --> 00:12:35 said that everything wasn't true and it was a lie and all that.
00:12:36 --> 00:12:43 But I mean, kind of like you said, Dave, once you put certain allegations against
00:12:43 --> 00:12:45 somebody, especially rape,
00:12:45 --> 00:12:54 that's a career ruining accusation, even if it's proved to be false months,
00:12:54 --> 00:12:58 years, decades later, you know, the damage is already done.
00:12:58 --> 00:13:00 So those lacrosse players are.
00:13:02 --> 00:13:06 Her saying she's lying, that doesn't help them out now. You know,
00:13:06 --> 00:13:08 that was going there 20 years ago. Yeah, that's right.
00:13:09 --> 00:13:13 But, you know, my thought pattern, and I did hear about her being,
00:13:13 --> 00:13:18 like, raped and sexually abused and, you know, killing her boyfriend,
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 manslaughter or whatever.
00:13:21 --> 00:13:27 And, you know, so it really kind of made me wonder, was her rape allegation to get attention?
00:13:27 --> 00:13:30 And then I think I might have heard, Dave,
00:13:30 --> 00:13:33 I can't remember if you said it or not, does she have a
00:13:33 --> 00:13:36 book coming out or the memoir yeah okay
00:13:36 --> 00:13:39 yeah so like i wonder if
00:13:39 --> 00:13:42 her is saying this is you know
00:13:42 --> 00:13:47 just trying to get additional publicity for a book too yeah well i mean yeah
00:13:47 --> 00:13:51 well this will definitely do it i mean you know because of course quite naturally
00:13:51 --> 00:13:57 with trying to get sales and trying to get things to happen around the book
00:13:57 --> 00:14:00 maybe a possible movie deal or whatever the case may be,
00:14:00 --> 00:14:04 you got to, you got to, you got to leak the,
00:14:05 --> 00:14:09 you know, something juicy that's going to get people wanting to read it or come
00:14:09 --> 00:14:14 act or, you know, get the type of endorsements and so forth that you want to get from it.
00:14:14 --> 00:14:21 Not saying that none of this, you know, you know, whatever happened during that
00:14:21 --> 00:14:25 particular time, it was a different day and time than it is now.
00:14:25 --> 00:14:29 And, of course, it was a very tumultuous situation.
00:14:30 --> 00:14:35 And, of course, you know, you have black, you have a black woman and white students.
00:14:36 --> 00:14:40 That's never a good optic. And she was a darker skinned woman.
00:14:40 --> 00:14:46 That's never a good optic either. You know, and it's, you know,
00:14:46 --> 00:14:49 it just was not a good situation.
00:14:49 --> 00:14:59 And you know i hope that she has gotten some type of help with what she's had
00:14:59 --> 00:15:02 to deal with because unfortunately you.
00:15:03 --> 00:15:07 That situation was the one that was widely talked about,
00:15:07 --> 00:15:12 but what about the other situations that she might have found herself into and
00:15:12 --> 00:15:20 that did not help her out as far as her psyche and, you know,
00:15:20 --> 00:15:24 going through the physical pain, shame,
00:15:24 --> 00:15:27 all of it, you know, that she had to go through.
00:15:27 --> 00:15:33 You know, the fact that, you know, there was a situation where she killed her boyfriend.
00:15:33 --> 00:15:36 What was that situation all about and what caused
00:15:36 --> 00:15:39 what led to that and you know there's
00:15:39 --> 00:15:43 more trauma that's there you know it's really we're
00:15:43 --> 00:15:46 really in a time and place where all of
00:15:46 --> 00:15:49 this is going on now especially you know we got these
00:15:49 --> 00:15:52 celebrities that are involved and like i you know i said
00:15:52 --> 00:15:55 in the very beginning you know i'm listening to i'm talking
00:15:55 --> 00:15:58 on the radio about this young lady who came
00:15:58 --> 00:16:02 out said that you know didion jay-z
00:16:02 --> 00:16:05 raped her when she was 13 years old but then a lot
00:16:05 --> 00:16:08 there was a lot of inconsistency in her story you know
00:16:08 --> 00:16:11 now of course the first thing that people think about
00:16:11 --> 00:16:17 when you start hearing people changing their story there's money about right
00:16:17 --> 00:16:22 you know or somebody got to somebody or whatever the case may be and of course
00:16:22 --> 00:16:26 we never know what the real deal is when it comes to those type of things and
00:16:26 --> 00:16:29 when change when stories have changed but.
00:16:30 --> 00:16:34 I just thought you know here we
00:16:34 --> 00:16:37 are dealing with what we're dealing with now and this
00:16:37 --> 00:16:41 story all of a sudden pops up you know
00:16:41 --> 00:16:45 you think that's you think timing you
00:16:45 --> 00:16:48 think that's part of timing you think this is maybe they
00:16:48 --> 00:16:51 just said yeah they just probably said this is probably the
00:16:51 --> 00:16:58 time to bring this out and maybe sell some books right yeah and i'm definitely
00:16:58 --> 00:17:04 sure you know i think i think it was probably calculated she probably saw you
00:17:04 --> 00:17:09 know maybe these victims or accusers getting some attention and you know be
00:17:09 --> 00:17:11 honest just figured that probably help out her sales,
00:17:12 --> 00:17:15 yeah yeah that's true that is true that
00:17:15 --> 00:17:18 is true well i mean i'm sure
00:17:18 --> 00:17:21 that this is not going to go away and i'm sure i mean
00:17:21 --> 00:17:24 i'm surprised that we haven't seen a movie about
00:17:24 --> 00:17:29 this yet but maybe they're setting it up for that now i don't know you know
00:17:29 --> 00:17:37 but i guess we'll find out for sure what where this is going to go and you know
00:17:37 --> 00:17:43 hopefully she will be all right you know and and dealing with whatever comes next.
00:17:45 --> 00:17:51 You know, I'm sure she still every day wakes up, you know, dealing with trauma
00:17:51 --> 00:17:54 or PTSD or something like that, you know.
00:17:54 --> 00:18:04 So, but, you know, hopefully she's able to get it together and be able to find
00:18:04 --> 00:18:09 peace in what she's looking for. I'll put it that way.
00:18:10 --> 00:18:17 All right. I'm sure that you guys probably will have some comments about this story.
00:18:17 --> 00:18:20 I'd be curious to know what you have to say about it, especially since we have
00:18:20 --> 00:18:22 a lot of female listeners.
00:18:23 --> 00:18:27 But I just thought it was a story that needed to be mentioned tonight,
00:18:27 --> 00:18:30 and I just wanted to make sure I brought that up.
00:18:31 --> 00:18:35 All right, so we'll move on to our next story, which is Quedlin.
00:18:36 --> 00:18:43 Yep, so Dave, this is the story of Daniel Penny. So people may be familiar with Daniel Penny.
00:18:44 --> 00:18:52 Last year, 2023, on the subway in New York City, there was another person named
00:18:52 --> 00:18:56 Jordan Neely who probably had some type of mental illness.
00:18:56 --> 00:19:03 And according to bystanders, he was threatening, threatening and appearing to
00:19:03 --> 00:19:11 be, you know, kind of like people were threatened by him and he had not touched anybody.
00:19:11 --> 00:19:20 But Daniel Penny, a white male, former Marine, took it upon himself to put Jordan
00:19:20 --> 00:19:23 Neely in a reverse chokehold.
00:19:24 --> 00:19:29 And Jordan Neely died right there in the subway.
00:19:30 --> 00:19:35 So a lot of people saying with self-defense, a lot of people who were for him
00:19:35 --> 00:19:38 and, you know, a lot of pride, Dave and myself and others.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:42 Really it kind of just looked like murder while he
00:19:42 --> 00:19:46 was doing this this was kind of televised so it was almost like a George Floyd
00:19:46 --> 00:19:50 part two where somebody was kind of strangled you know right before our eyes
00:19:50 --> 00:19:58 so long story short Daniel Penny went to trial earlier this December.
00:20:00 --> 00:20:06 And unfortunately for us Dave he was acquitted of the charges of the chokehold
00:20:06 --> 00:20:12 death of Jordan kneeling now um let me just backtrack real quick so while he
00:20:12 --> 00:20:14 was going to trial before he went to trial,
00:20:16 --> 00:20:21 People, the public, and we can probably guess which public this was,
00:20:22 --> 00:20:28 the public raised about $3.3 million for his legal defense.
00:20:29 --> 00:20:35 After he was found acquitted, you would think a normal person who was acquitted
00:20:35 --> 00:20:41 of murder would maybe go home, spend time with his family,
00:20:42 --> 00:20:46 go somewhere and stay out the way.
00:20:46 --> 00:20:51 No, after he was acquitted, Dave, that's what he did. He went out to the bars
00:20:51 --> 00:20:56 that evening and went drinking with his attorneys. It was like a celebration.
00:20:56 --> 00:21:01 Okay. So a lot of people kind of gave him the side eye regarding that.
00:21:01 --> 00:21:08 And then this past weekend, our vice president elect J.D.
00:21:08 --> 00:21:16 Vance invited Daniel Penny to the Army Navy game as his guest.
00:21:18 --> 00:21:23 And these were our future vice president's exact words.
00:21:24 --> 00:21:30 Daniel's a good guy. And the New York mob district attorney tried to ruin his
00:21:30 --> 00:21:32 life for having a backbone.
00:21:32 --> 00:21:38 Then Vance said, I'm grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he's able to
00:21:38 --> 00:21:44 have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage.
00:21:44 --> 00:21:47 End of quote. Wow.
00:21:47 --> 00:21:49 Can you believe that? Crazy.
00:21:50 --> 00:21:56 So this person killed somebody, chokehold on the subway, on video,
00:21:56 --> 00:21:59 on photo, in front of everybody.
00:22:00 --> 00:22:04 And Jordan Neely obviously has some type of mental issues. Jordan Neely never
00:22:04 --> 00:22:09 touched anybody, but Daniel Penny put him in a chokehold.
00:22:09 --> 00:22:13 He died, went to trial, acquitted,
00:22:14 --> 00:22:19 celebrated by drinking at the bars, and then invited by the vice president to
00:22:19 --> 00:22:23 the Army-Navy game to be his special guest, where, of course,
00:22:23 --> 00:22:25 Donald Trump was also there.
00:22:25 --> 00:22:29 And, of course, they took a picture, the three of them, at the game.
00:22:29 --> 00:22:31 Dave, what are your thoughts?
00:22:31 --> 00:22:38 Leonard, I don't think I think you already know my thoughts You know Share anywhere.
00:22:40 --> 00:22:52 When are we going to call a spade a spade other than when it comes to us being spades I mean,
00:22:53 --> 00:22:57 the blatant racism
00:22:57 --> 00:23:06 that's in the country today It's so blatant that it really makes your skin crawl
00:23:06 --> 00:23:14 and your brain boil over because you know they're not trying to hide anything.
00:23:15 --> 00:23:25 How can you be so egregious to do to and you're the newly elect vice president?
00:23:25 --> 00:23:27 Look, your own president doesn't like you.
00:23:29 --> 00:23:36 So, I mean, but, you know, you're too busy trying to kiss his butt to try to stay in his favor.
00:23:37 --> 00:23:42 That you're going to invite this man to come hang out with you guys at the Army and Navy game.
00:23:42 --> 00:23:46 And this game is a very big
00:23:46 --> 00:23:49 deal each and every year it's well attended and.
00:23:49 --> 00:23:52 It's about you know those those young people
00:23:52 --> 00:23:55 who not only playing football but they also.
00:23:55 --> 00:23:58 Have committed to their country to fight
00:23:58 --> 00:24:02 for their country you know and you
00:24:02 --> 00:24:05 got these kind of people coming to these
00:24:05 --> 00:24:09 games to cheer for you well they're
00:24:09 --> 00:24:12 not even cheering for you they're there for they're there for photo ops
00:24:12 --> 00:24:15 that's basically what they're there for and and
00:24:15 --> 00:24:18 you know being part of the good old
00:24:18 --> 00:24:20 boy network you know this young man was
00:24:20 --> 00:24:23 killed there's no if ands or
00:24:23 --> 00:24:26 but about it he was killed he was not
00:24:26 --> 00:24:30 it was not accidental you know
00:24:30 --> 00:24:33 well no you know what i'll take that back i'll
00:24:33 --> 00:24:36 walk that back it was probably accidental that he
00:24:36 --> 00:24:39 died because the guy to put the choke choke
00:24:39 --> 00:24:42 hole on him was just trying to get him to settle down i
00:24:42 --> 00:24:46 i really believe that i will pray that except
00:24:46 --> 00:24:50 he held them too long and he called all
00:24:50 --> 00:24:53 of them to die just like you said george what
00:24:53 --> 00:24:57 happened with george floyd but to to
00:24:57 --> 00:25:00 to acquit this man and and to get him
00:25:00 --> 00:25:04 more you know to let him go and find
00:25:04 --> 00:25:08 them not guilty of anything regardless of
00:25:08 --> 00:25:11 who sure that's people that was who testified that
00:25:11 --> 00:25:15 was there unless they scared everybody and
00:25:15 --> 00:25:18 said hey look you can't say
00:25:18 --> 00:25:21 what happened right you know.
00:25:21 --> 00:25:24 Too much of this was going on
00:25:24 --> 00:25:27 you know when i was when i was coming up.
00:25:27 --> 00:25:31 As a kid Leonard you know as a young person you know
00:25:31 --> 00:25:34 having these kind of conversations about the president and
00:25:34 --> 00:25:37 vice president you couldn't do it back then
00:25:37 --> 00:25:45 because you know people they're actually if you if you said over the phone to
00:25:45 --> 00:25:49 somebody that you wanted to kill the president you know how quickly somebody
00:25:49 --> 00:25:55 would show up at your door yeah you know I mean it was it was it was crazy But now,
00:25:56 --> 00:25:58 you know, you hear it every day.
00:26:00 --> 00:26:03 I was watching Saturday Night Live. Chris Rock was the host.
00:26:04 --> 00:26:07 Did you hear about this monologue that he did? No, I didn't.
00:26:07 --> 00:26:14 It was like real. I was like, whoa, Chris is going in.
00:26:14 --> 00:26:20 You know, he called Elon Musk.
00:26:20 --> 00:26:27 He called him the richest African-American in Donald Trump's cabin.
00:26:28 --> 00:26:30 He called him an african-american.
00:26:34 --> 00:26:37 Because he's from africa south africa and he's
00:26:37 --> 00:26:41 american you know so you know but he
00:26:41 --> 00:26:44 was chris said some crazy stuff in his
00:26:44 --> 00:26:47 monologue and i was like oh he ain't gonna get away
00:26:47 --> 00:26:50 with that without people commenting and it's been a lot if you
00:26:50 --> 00:26:53 look on x and or twitter for
00:26:53 --> 00:26:56 those who still called twitter you'll see there were
00:26:56 --> 00:26:59 a lot of people that was like wow bris you know
00:26:59 --> 00:27:02 but this is the world where you know
00:27:02 --> 00:27:05 people either you got two types
00:27:05 --> 00:27:08 of people now you got people that are sensitive and you
00:27:08 --> 00:27:11 got people that are not sensitive there's too many
00:27:11 --> 00:27:16 not sensitive people these days too many way
00:27:16 --> 00:27:19 more than it is sensitive people and for
00:27:19 --> 00:27:22 this to happen and this guy to be able to get away with it
00:27:22 --> 00:27:25 as you know just par for
00:27:25 --> 00:27:28 the course of the way the world is today and we
00:27:28 --> 00:27:32 haven't gotten we haven't even gotten to january 6th
00:27:32 --> 00:27:35 i know no yeah that's
00:27:35 --> 00:27:38 yeah and you know
00:27:38 --> 00:27:41 we already know that he plans to pardon all of
00:27:41 --> 00:27:44 these people that participated in the infamous
00:27:44 --> 00:27:51 january 6th a few years ago so tell you anyway that's all i got to say about
00:27:51 --> 00:27:58 that i can't i can't with that man that just you know this tells you that you
00:27:58 --> 00:28:01 know they still don't care about us they really don't they.
00:28:02 --> 00:28:09 Don't they really don't they really don't so uh anyway you got any more to say about that.
00:28:10 --> 00:28:12 I mean, I think I think you covered it all.
00:28:13 --> 00:28:16 Yeah, it's it's that's rough. That's rough there.
00:28:18 --> 00:28:22 So we're going to move on to our next story. Sorry, folks, we're not trying
00:28:22 --> 00:28:24 to we're not trying to bring you down.
00:28:24 --> 00:28:27 But, you know, this is where we are, man. It really is.
00:28:28 --> 00:28:32 But we're going to take you to a different direction where no lender can relate
00:28:32 --> 00:28:38 to what we talk about here about our children, especially children of today.
00:28:40 --> 00:28:46 This is about a story about nearly half of the U.S. teens are online.
00:28:48 --> 00:28:52 Constantly. And I'm going to read a little bit of the story.
00:28:52 --> 00:28:57 It says nearly half of American teenagers say they are online constantly,
00:28:57 --> 00:29:02 despite concerns about the effects of social media and smartphones on their mental health.
00:29:02 --> 00:29:07 According to a new report published by the Pew Research Center,
00:29:07 --> 00:29:14 as in past years, YouTube was the single most popular platform teenagers use.
00:29:14 --> 00:29:15 Now, is that true with your kids?
00:29:16 --> 00:29:20 Yeah, I mean, I think so. I think YouTube and TikTok.
00:29:21 --> 00:29:27 Okay. So it says 90% says that they watch videos on the site,
00:29:27 --> 00:29:32 down slightly from 95% in 2022.
00:29:33 --> 00:29:38 Nearly three quarters say they visit YouTube every day.
00:29:40 --> 00:29:43 Yeah, I know. That's crazy, right? Every day.
00:29:43 --> 00:29:47 There's a slight downward trend in
00:29:47 --> 00:29:50 several popular apps teams use for instance
00:29:50 --> 00:29:53 63 percent of the team
00:29:53 --> 00:29:56 said that they use tiktok down
00:29:56 --> 00:29:59 from 67 percent is that
00:29:59 --> 00:30:03 is it your kids on tiktok all time darn there
00:30:03 --> 00:30:07 okay all right and snapchat
00:30:07 --> 00:30:10 snap uh snapchat slipped from 55
00:30:10 --> 00:30:18 uh slipped to 55 from 59 i didn't think that was still that popular anymore
00:30:18 --> 00:30:25 this small decline could be due to the pandemic era restrictions easing up and
00:30:25 --> 00:30:28 kids having more time to see friends in person They don't.
00:30:29 --> 00:30:31 Anyway. I know. Right.
00:30:32 --> 00:30:36 What friends? What friends? I know. I know. I mean, these are people they go to school with.
00:30:37 --> 00:30:40 How many of them do they really call friends? Okay.
00:30:41 --> 00:30:45 It said X saw the biggest decline among teenage users.
00:30:46 --> 00:30:53 Only 17% of teenagers said they use X, down from 23% in 2022,
00:30:54 --> 00:30:57 the year Elon Musk brought the platform.
00:30:58 --> 00:31:02 Reddit held steady at Reddit held steady at 14%.
00:31:02 --> 00:31:08 I didn't think too many kids got on Reddit, but anyway, about 6% of teenagers
00:31:08 --> 00:31:15 said they use threads metas answer to X that launched in 2023. Are you on thread?
00:31:16 --> 00:31:20 You know, Dave, I actually, it took me a while. I actually like threads better
00:31:20 --> 00:31:22 than Twitter because it's easier to connect with people.
00:31:23 --> 00:31:27 I keep, you know, I keep saying I'm going to, you know, I've gone to the app
00:31:27 --> 00:31:29 a couple of times and got ready to put it on my phone.
00:31:29 --> 00:31:35 And then I just stopped and I just said, man, I got too much on my phone right now, you know?
00:31:35 --> 00:31:39 And I, but it drives me nuts when you're on Instagram and they give you the little tease.
00:31:41 --> 00:31:42 Yeah, I know. So,
00:31:44 --> 00:31:48 report comes as countries around the world are grappling about how to handle
00:31:48 --> 00:31:51 the effects of social media on young people's well-being.
00:31:52 --> 00:31:59 Australia recently passed a law banning kids under 16 from social networks,
00:31:59 --> 00:32:05 though it's unclear how it will be able to enforce the age limit and whether
00:32:05 --> 00:32:08 it will come with unintended consequences,
00:32:09 --> 00:32:16 such as isolation of vulnerable kids from their peers, isolating vulnerable kids from their peers.
00:32:17 --> 00:32:23 It says Meta's messaging service WhatsApp was a rare exception in that it saw
00:32:23 --> 00:32:31 the number of teenagers using users increase to 23% from 17%.
00:32:32 --> 00:32:35 There was one other thing that I wanted to point out.
00:32:35 --> 00:32:45 It says, small but significant numbers said that they are on them almost constantly
00:32:45 --> 00:32:47 on these social media platforms.
00:32:48 --> 00:32:51 For YouTube, 15% reported constant use.
00:32:51 --> 00:32:55 For TikTok, 16%. And for Snapchat, 13%.
00:32:55 --> 00:33:02 As in previous surveys, here we go. Girls were more likely to use TikTok almost
00:33:02 --> 00:33:08 constantly while boys gravitate to YouTube. Is that true in your household?
00:33:09 --> 00:33:12 You know of i'm not sure i'm not
00:33:12 --> 00:33:15 sure but i mean definitely tiktok and youtube are like the
00:33:15 --> 00:33:18 you know the the top two for sure okay
00:33:18 --> 00:33:21 they said there was no meaningful gender differences
00:33:21 --> 00:33:27 in the use of snapchat snapchat instagram and facebook first i didn't mention
00:33:27 --> 00:33:34 facebook roughly a quarter of black and hispanic teens said they visit tiktok
00:33:34 --> 00:33:39 almost constantly compared with just eight percent on white teenagers.
00:33:39 --> 00:33:46 The report was based on a survey of 1 U.S.
00:33:46 --> 00:33:54 Teenagers, and get this, from ages 13 to 17, conducted in September to October of this year.
00:33:55 --> 00:34:01 So 13 to 17-year-olds, this is where this information is being compiled.
00:34:02 --> 00:34:04 Now, you have that demographic in your household right
00:34:04 --> 00:34:08 now i do you know
00:34:08 --> 00:34:11 and so and that's where they're saying most
00:34:11 --> 00:34:15 of the usage is coming that demographic no
00:34:15 --> 00:34:18 i mean i definitely agree you know i think and i
00:34:18 --> 00:34:21 said you know we talked about where i
00:34:21 --> 00:34:24 where i shared kids don't leave
00:34:24 --> 00:34:28 their rooms these days we have four teenagers all of
00:34:28 --> 00:34:31 them rather be in their room by themselves than
00:34:31 --> 00:34:33 to do anything else maybe except to go
00:34:33 --> 00:34:37 out to eat like you know going out to eat made trump but not
00:34:37 --> 00:34:40 all the time but i mean it's like their desire
00:34:40 --> 00:34:45 to be in the room solo is is
00:34:45 --> 00:34:51 crazy wow so even okay let me ask you a question even when you guys go out to
00:34:51 --> 00:34:58 eat as a family go to a place you sit down to you set rules as far as no we're
00:34:58 --> 00:35:03 not going to have our phones out while we're eating yeah we do so normally what we'll do is.
00:35:04 --> 00:35:08 Before you know we'll order food and before
00:35:08 --> 00:35:12 before the food comes out we'll either
00:35:12 --> 00:35:18 have somebody assigned to start a conversation or we'll go around kind of asking
00:35:18 --> 00:35:23 questions so everyone will kind of ask questions dave if we don't do that these
00:35:23 --> 00:35:27 kids don't have no conversation skills like you know they don't got nothing
00:35:27 --> 00:35:30 to talk about they don't got they don't talk to each other they
00:35:30 --> 00:35:34 don't talk to each other at all i mean sporadically but you know i you know
00:35:34 --> 00:35:40 i think just the new age is kind of like the conversation skills are just limited
00:35:40 --> 00:35:45 you know yeah they talk through their phone yeah that's what they do they talk
00:35:45 --> 00:35:47 to their devices that's having conversations.
00:35:49 --> 00:35:52 I said, you know, the funny, you know, when I started seeing a few years back,
00:35:53 --> 00:35:57 you know, kids sitting next to each other and then they're just bust out and laughing.
00:35:58 --> 00:36:01 And then you'd be like, what are you laughing about? And then,
00:36:01 --> 00:36:03 oh, he just told me a joke or she just told me a joke.
00:36:04 --> 00:36:07 I never heard you open your mouth. Oh, they sent you to me. Right.
00:36:09 --> 00:36:14 You know, and that's, you know, I like to take a bunch of these kids now letter
00:36:14 --> 00:36:16 and just take them back to when I was a kid.
00:36:17 --> 00:36:21 Dave, they would never make it. Well, they would have to. You know what?
00:36:21 --> 00:36:22 They would have to. You know why?
00:36:23 --> 00:36:25 There were no cell phones. Yeah.
00:36:26 --> 00:36:29 There was. Look, we had the only phones were the phones in the house.
00:36:29 --> 00:36:35 And that meant if you use the phone back then, that meant you had to talk to somebody.
00:36:35 --> 00:36:37 Yeah, that's true. So.
00:36:38 --> 00:36:41 And Dave, Dave, you had to hope you can get them on the phone because you really
00:36:41 --> 00:36:42 had their parents house.
00:36:42 --> 00:36:47 Yeah, that's right. That's right. so the only other thing to do if you were
00:36:47 --> 00:36:51 unless you were a book were a nerd or something like that the only other thing
00:36:51 --> 00:36:56 to do was to be outside you know and playing with other people you know.
00:36:59 --> 00:37:03 I used to hate going to school every day I told you we had like a two and a
00:37:03 --> 00:37:09 half three hour two and a half three mile not hour three mile walk to school
00:37:09 --> 00:37:14 and back but you know it never really bothered us Thank you.
00:37:14 --> 00:37:20 Because as you start to walk, you will come across your friends walking to school, too.
00:37:21 --> 00:37:26 And you would just start talking. And before you knew it, you were at school, you know.
00:37:26 --> 00:37:31 So it was never that big of a deal to us unless we were really tired,
00:37:31 --> 00:37:35 you know, or something like that, you know, or, you know, went to practice or something like that.
00:37:36 --> 00:37:41 But other than that, it was not that big of a deal to us. And especially somebody
00:37:41 --> 00:37:44 like me, because where I lived, I lived on the very last street.
00:37:45 --> 00:37:47 I probably lived the furthest away.
00:37:47 --> 00:37:50 Me and a couple other people that I would go to school with,
00:37:50 --> 00:37:54 we probably lived the furthest away than anybody, you know, from the school,
00:37:54 --> 00:37:56 you know, but it didn't bother us.
00:37:56 --> 00:38:00 We walked every day, you know, it's snow and everything.
00:38:01 --> 00:38:04 So, you know, but these kids nowadays, man.
00:38:05 --> 00:38:09 Like I said, I just wish I could take them, take a shipload of them and just,
00:38:09 --> 00:38:13 plop them plop them down in 1960
00:38:13 --> 00:38:16 and 70s just to see
00:38:16 --> 00:38:18 what would happen right well and dave it's almost like the
00:38:18 --> 00:38:22 kendrick lamar song they're not like us no
00:38:22 --> 00:38:28 they're not they're not no yeah they definitely not like us you know and and
00:38:28 --> 00:38:32 they don't even want to hear about what we they they're not even interested
00:38:32 --> 00:38:37 in in the stories that we tell about growing no well they you know so funny
00:38:37 --> 00:38:40 Cause I always tell my daughter, I'm like, you know, back in my day.
00:38:40 --> 00:38:42 And she's like, but it's not your day anymore.
00:38:44 --> 00:38:49 I'm like, I know your day's over with, uh, yeah, let it go. Dad.
00:38:50 --> 00:38:52 It's in the past. Okay. This is the present. Okay.
00:38:53 --> 00:38:58 So, yeah, well, hopefully those numbers will improve.
00:38:58 --> 00:39:04 Maybe with you and I was just talking before we started to tell about how with TikTok plans,
00:39:04 --> 00:39:07 you know what's going to happen you know with apple and
00:39:07 --> 00:39:11 some of these other companies pull tiktok tiktok
00:39:11 --> 00:39:14 off i think x was one of the companies that they
00:39:14 --> 00:39:18 said they wasn't going to allow tiktok well eli
00:39:18 --> 00:39:21 musk was talking about he wasn't going to allow it to be a
00:39:21 --> 00:39:24 part of anything he does either so so
00:39:24 --> 00:39:27 when they start pulling these tiktok and you won't
00:39:27 --> 00:39:30 have tiktok available to you anymore what are you going to
00:39:30 --> 00:39:33 do that right well i guess instagram will
00:39:33 --> 00:39:37 come up because instagram was working on something already you know comparable
00:39:37 --> 00:39:41 so yeah well i mean to be honest instagram already has all the tiktok's features
00:39:41 --> 00:39:48 you know reels music the stitches all that so yeah i guess they're gonna if
00:39:48 --> 00:39:50 they're gonna try to take over the world i guess,
00:39:51 --> 00:39:56 we're thinking in the brain when you need them man you know so yeah so all right
00:39:56 --> 00:40:05 moving on to our next story let's see all right our next story and this story
00:40:05 --> 00:40:10 doesn't seem to go away you know now it's even affecting our stores and everything so.
00:40:13 --> 00:40:23 Walmart pulls back on DEI efforts and removes LGBTQ merchandising from websites.
00:40:24 --> 00:40:28 Getting deep for people with this DEI stuff. They are not playing with it.
00:40:28 --> 00:40:30 It's starting to hit everything now.
00:40:30 --> 00:40:32 Have you noticed how it's hitting everything now?
00:40:33 --> 00:40:37 Yeah. I mean, it's like everyone is walking that thing right on back.
00:40:37 --> 00:40:41 Yeah. Yeah. Because you and I first started talking about DEI, what,
00:40:42 --> 00:40:46 a little year or so ago when I was talking about how they were pulling it out
00:40:46 --> 00:40:50 of some of the big schools like Florida and Alabama and how that was going to
00:40:50 --> 00:40:53 affect their sports teams because,
00:40:53 --> 00:40:56 of course, most of their sports teams were made up of minorities.
00:40:57 --> 00:41:00 You know, so they've been talking about pulling scholarships and all that kind
00:41:00 --> 00:41:02 of stuff. Now, here we are.
00:41:02 --> 00:41:08 Now we're talking about stores and chains and so forth like that.
00:41:08 --> 00:41:11 You know, so here we have Walmart.
00:41:11 --> 00:41:19 And it says the nation's largest employer, which has 1.6 million U.S.
00:41:19 --> 00:41:25 Workers, joined a growing list of companies that have stepped back from diversity,
00:41:25 --> 00:41:33 equity, and inclusion efforts after feeling the heat from conservative activists.
00:41:33 --> 00:41:36 First of all, I didn't know they were the largest employer
00:41:36 --> 00:41:40 did you know that i think i did okay all
00:41:40 --> 00:41:43 right then okay i didn't
00:41:43 --> 00:41:46 know did not know walmart on monday has
00:41:46 --> 00:41:52 confirmed that it's ending some of his diversity initiative removing some lb
00:41:52 --> 00:42:00 i mean lgbtq related merchandise from his website and winding down a non-profit
00:42:00 --> 00:42:04 that funded programs for minorities.
00:42:05 --> 00:42:10 The Navy's largest employer, which has all these people that work for them.
00:42:12 --> 00:42:17 That is attributed to changes to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision last year
00:42:17 --> 00:42:23 that struck down affirmative action programs at colleges.
00:42:24 --> 00:42:30 Those companies include Tractor Supply, which said in June it was eliminating
00:42:30 --> 00:42:35 DEI rolls and stopping sponsorships of Pride festivals.
00:42:36 --> 00:42:40 Lowe's, okay, so they can already get people to talk now because these are places
00:42:40 --> 00:42:42 that people go to, you know.
00:42:43 --> 00:42:52 Those, four, moles on fours have also walked back some of their equity and inclusion
00:42:52 --> 00:42:54 policies in recent months.
00:42:54 --> 00:43:00 Others, such as Anne Hebert Bush, Bud Light,
00:43:01 --> 00:43:08 and Target, have faced sharp backlash and fallen sales after marketing campaigns
00:43:08 --> 00:43:13 or merchandise focused on the LGBTQ community.
00:43:14 --> 00:43:19 In a statement, Walmart said it is willing to change alongside our associates
00:43:19 --> 00:43:22 and customers to represent all of America.
00:43:24 --> 00:43:29 Been on a journey. I know we aren't perfect, but every decision comes from a
00:43:29 --> 00:43:31 place of wanting to foster a
00:43:31 --> 00:43:37 sense of belonging to open doors to opportunities for all our associates,
00:43:38 --> 00:43:42 customers, and suppliers, and to be a Walmart for everyone.
00:43:43 --> 00:43:50 Staben said Walmart's DEI changes were the first reported by Bluebird News.
00:43:50 --> 00:43:56 They said among the changes, Walmart will no longer allowed third-party sellers
00:43:56 --> 00:44:02 to sell some LGBTQ-themed items on Walmart's website.
00:44:02 --> 00:44:04 That's deep. That's deep.
00:44:05 --> 00:44:08 Including items marketed to transgender youth.
00:44:09 --> 00:44:10 Oh, Lord. Here we go.
00:44:11 --> 00:44:17 Like Chet Finder Company spokesman Molly Blakeman said.
00:44:17 --> 00:44:21 There he said it also
00:44:21 --> 00:44:27 recently decided to stop sharing data with the human rights campaign a non-profit
00:44:27 --> 00:44:35 that tracks companies lgbtq policies or with other similar organizations oh
00:44:35 --> 00:44:39 man you know that you already know.
00:44:41 --> 00:44:47 That's wrong that's wrong that's the wrong community to get upset man so So
00:44:47 --> 00:44:51 Walmart, you know, Walmart for years did good with all types of,
00:44:52 --> 00:44:56 you know, they had a lot of DEI type situations.
00:44:56 --> 00:45:01 I know Steve Harvey had his takes and stuff in Walmart.
00:45:02 --> 00:45:06 There was the young lady we talked about briefly about a week or two ago that
00:45:06 --> 00:45:09 has the doll that was on Jennifer Hutch's show.
00:45:11 --> 00:45:16 Yeah, her stuff is in Walmart and Target.
00:45:16 --> 00:45:21 So are they going to pull all of her stuff too i'm sure they they might yeah
00:45:21 --> 00:45:26 with the dei stuff so because they were always good with allowing people you
00:45:26 --> 00:45:31 know people of color who came up with great ideals to put their stuff on their
00:45:31 --> 00:45:35 shelves so but this is now saying that could change.
00:45:36 --> 00:45:44 What's your thoughts about all of this so i mean i almost feel like these corporations
00:45:44 --> 00:45:49 to be honest are a little scared of the new president because I feel like,
00:45:49 --> 00:45:51 you know, they're rolling back all these initiatives.
00:45:51 --> 00:45:58 So my question is, did you really think DEI was a thing in the first place?
00:45:58 --> 00:46:02 If you can so easily and casually roll it back.
00:46:03 --> 00:46:08 So, I mean, wait, hold on. Let me stop you right there. And I'm gonna let you,
00:46:08 --> 00:46:10 I'm gonna let you continue. I'm gonna do my own.
00:46:10 --> 00:46:15 Hold on for a minute let me let me let me stop you but i'm gonna let you continue
00:46:15 --> 00:46:17 like my kind in my kanye voice um
00:46:17 --> 00:46:23 anyway this this whole thing about dei i didn't know it was a thing at all.
00:46:24 --> 00:46:28 It was just something that was being done you
00:46:28 --> 00:46:31 know now you know it was it was
00:46:31 --> 00:46:34 the new affirmative action program you know
00:46:34 --> 00:46:37 what i mean it was you know of course they they
00:46:37 --> 00:46:40 kind of downplayed affirmative action but changed it
00:46:40 --> 00:46:43 into something else and that's what d i
00:46:43 --> 00:46:46 b e i became but they wasn't
00:46:46 --> 00:46:52 talking about it like that until the last couple years when here we go we start
00:46:52 --> 00:46:56 to see some change is happening in the government and now all of a sudden it's
00:46:56 --> 00:47:02 an issue and now it's definitely going to be an issue starting next month and
00:47:02 --> 00:47:06 going forward so but go ahead i'm sorry i did.
00:47:07 --> 00:47:10 Go ahead finish what you're right thank you so yeah so
00:47:10 --> 00:47:13 i mean really dei popped up after george floyd you
00:47:13 --> 00:47:16 know like after the george floyd death and there was a big black business
00:47:16 --> 00:47:19 push a lot of companies set aside
00:47:19 --> 00:47:22 that initiative but you know now it kind
00:47:22 --> 00:47:25 of sounds like but that's because all the money that
00:47:25 --> 00:47:28 was floating around out there at that time yeah yeah i mean and i
00:47:28 --> 00:47:31 think companies just wanted to look like they they had a a
00:47:31 --> 00:47:37 moral capacity to feel for the people but i feel like now these companies are
00:47:37 --> 00:47:43 doing whatever benefits them in the short term so you know d d i didn't benefit
00:47:43 --> 00:47:46 the companies because they had to pay more money they had more restrictions
00:47:46 --> 00:47:48 so i feel like Like, I mean,
00:47:48 --> 00:47:52 it's almost like an ass, like almost like an ass kisser.
00:47:52 --> 00:47:54 Like they're always looking for the next ass to kiss.
00:47:55 --> 00:47:59 So, you know, Walmart dropping this kind of shows that they were never,
00:47:59 --> 00:48:01 ever committed to it in the first place.
00:48:01 --> 00:48:05 They only did it because that's what was popular at the time.
00:48:06 --> 00:48:10 And also shows that they're scared and that they can be bought.
00:48:11 --> 00:48:18 I think you know you know because you know you figure walmart target lose these type of companies,
00:48:19 --> 00:48:26 you know who who's the people shopping in their store yeah that's what i'm saying
00:48:26 --> 00:48:31 you know and and you know especially in you know where a lot of a lot of the
00:48:31 --> 00:48:38 walmarts and well not so much target because Target is very strategically placed,
00:48:39 --> 00:48:42 where they put their stores at.
00:48:42 --> 00:48:44 But those Walmarts are everywhere.
00:48:48 --> 00:48:53 You can go to one in the hood. You can go one in the suburbs.
00:48:53 --> 00:48:56 They put them everywhere that they know they can make money.
00:48:56 --> 00:49:01 But when you go in a lot of those stores, it's people of color that are in those store shops.
00:49:02 --> 00:49:04 You know i mean of course it's the
00:49:04 --> 00:49:08 other folks too but still there's a
00:49:08 --> 00:49:11 lot of a lot of people color and and that's
00:49:11 --> 00:49:14 all different colors that are in those stores right
00:49:14 --> 00:49:20 you know do you really want to upset us that way you know do you really want
00:49:20 --> 00:49:26 us to to not shop anymore at your store i mean right now you know we can go
00:49:26 --> 00:49:31 to amazon and get anything we want yeah no you're right and and And sometimes
00:49:31 --> 00:49:34 we get it the same day next day. Yeah.
00:49:35 --> 00:49:40 Order it in the morning, have it in the afternoon if you're lucky enough.
00:49:40 --> 00:49:48 You know, so, yeah. So this kind of stuff, I don't know. You can play around if you want to, you know.
00:49:48 --> 00:49:53 And, you know, this DEI stuff is really serious, folks, you know,
00:49:53 --> 00:49:55 because it's affecting a lot of things right now.
00:49:56 --> 00:49:59 And you really need to pay attention because things
00:49:59 --> 00:50:02 are not going to get easier over the next four years right it
00:50:02 --> 00:50:08 really isn't and there's going to be a lot of stuff taken away from us just
00:50:08 --> 00:50:12 look just pay attention just stay woke on this stuff it's a lot of stuff look
00:50:12 --> 00:50:16 i'm sure you and i are going to be doing all kinds of stories over the next
00:50:16 --> 00:50:20 year or so that's going to be talking about things that we're losing.
00:50:22 --> 00:50:27 So, I mean, it's coming. And, you know, I think it's bad, too,
00:50:27 --> 00:50:30 because, of course, Walmart is one of the biggest employers.
00:50:30 --> 00:50:34 So now that this kind of gives way for smaller employers to start doing the
00:50:34 --> 00:50:38 same thing without getting the same type of question or treatment.
00:50:39 --> 00:50:45 Yeah. Well, I don't know. But a lot of these smaller employers that are minorities,
00:50:45 --> 00:50:50 it's going to be harder for them to be able to stay in business. Yeah, no, I agree.
00:50:51 --> 00:50:55 Yeah, it's going to be harder for them to stay in business or even get started
00:50:55 --> 00:51:02 in business now because, you know, now, you know, DEI is becoming this big white elephant now.
00:51:03 --> 00:51:07 You know, who's going to give you the money for startup? Right.
00:51:08 --> 00:51:10 You know so we we need
00:51:10 --> 00:51:13 to pay attention folks and we we need to make sure that
00:51:13 --> 00:51:17 we're we are listening and reading and
00:51:17 --> 00:51:19 trying to figure things out
00:51:19 --> 00:51:22 when these stores stop saying that they don't want to deal
00:51:22 --> 00:51:25 with certain things they have to deal with you know
00:51:25 --> 00:51:28 people of color and and and business
00:51:28 --> 00:51:33 and all of that kind of stuff the lbgq community
00:51:33 --> 00:51:37 then they don't you don't need to spend your dollars with them you know go somewhere
00:51:37 --> 00:51:42 else spend it somewhere else where people that will appreciate you all right
00:51:42 --> 00:51:48 i'm getting off my soapbox now i know i'm not dave yeah yeah this is it look
00:51:48 --> 00:51:53 these subjects all got to be fired up tonight folks i'm serious you know because it's,
00:51:53 --> 00:51:58 some mess it really is a lot of this stuff is mess that's all it is you know so.
00:51:59 --> 00:52:03 Let me get calmed down with Dave's Corner, you know, Leonard's favorite part
00:52:03 --> 00:52:07 of the show, you know, so we can make sure that we leave on a high note here.
00:52:07 --> 00:52:12 So I thought this was an interesting question. So this is my question for tonight.
00:52:13 --> 00:52:19 If you have Santa-like abilities, since it is the Christmas season,
00:52:19 --> 00:52:26 and you have, you can give three gifts to three people anywhere in the world,
00:52:26 --> 00:52:28 who would you give your gifts to?
00:52:28 --> 00:52:33 And what would you gift each person?
00:52:33 --> 00:52:39 So this can be celebrities, this could be family members, anywhere in the world,
00:52:39 --> 00:52:45 people that you don't know, that you know of, or that type of thing.
00:52:45 --> 00:52:52 But this is around the world, three people that you can give gifts to and what
00:52:52 --> 00:52:53 gifts would you give them?
00:52:53 --> 00:52:56 All right, Dave, I'm going to let you go first for this one.
00:52:58 --> 00:53:02 Okay. Thank you, Leonard. I appreciate it. Okay.
00:53:03 --> 00:53:12 My first gift would be to President Michelle, President Michelle, President Obama.
00:53:12 --> 00:53:14 I guess that was a Freudian slip, maybe.
00:53:16 --> 00:53:22 President Barack Obama and I'm going to say collectively him and Michelle together
00:53:22 --> 00:53:26 for actually being the first,
00:53:28 --> 00:53:35 President minority dissent of the United States and being able to hold both,
00:53:35 --> 00:53:40 you know, that job and, you know, First Lady with class,
00:53:40 --> 00:53:45 be able to do it with class and dignity without falling into this mess that
00:53:45 --> 00:53:50 we've seen other presidents fall into. What would I give them?
00:53:50 --> 00:53:55 I would give them the Medal of Honor.
00:53:56 --> 00:54:00 Okay. All right, Dave. Yeah, I would give them the Medal of Honor. You fancy?
00:54:01 --> 00:54:06 Yeah, that's what I would give to those dudes. So that would be my first gift.
00:54:08 --> 00:54:15 Actually, I'm going to cheat a little bit. And my next gift would be to St. Jude's Hospital.
00:54:17 --> 00:54:21 I'm going to go off script a little bit. And the only reason for that is because St.
00:54:22 --> 00:54:25 Jude's Hospital, I remember hearing about this hospital when I was a kid,
00:54:25 --> 00:54:27 when they first started it.
00:54:27 --> 00:54:29 Danny Thomas and his daughter first started it.
00:54:30 --> 00:54:36 And to be able to see the hospital grow and to see all the work that they do,
00:54:36 --> 00:54:39 especially with children with cancer and so forth,
00:54:40 --> 00:54:45 my gift to that hospital would be all the funding they needed to find a cure
00:54:45 --> 00:54:55 for, you know, cancer, for adolescent cancer, you know, children, for all those children.
00:54:55 --> 00:55:02 Who come there looking for a cure, being able to give them enough money to be
00:55:02 --> 00:55:05 able to cure those kids, every last one of them when they come there.
00:55:06 --> 00:55:10 Kind of stepping off the lane, but that would be my gift, money to keep that
00:55:10 --> 00:55:15 hospital, to make sure that they find the cure that's needed in order to cure those children.
00:55:16 --> 00:55:18 My last gift would be,
00:55:21 --> 00:55:26 be to no I ain't going to say that I'm going to switch that up.
00:55:29 --> 00:55:35 Go ahead say it no no I'm not going to say it I'm not going to say it I'm going
00:55:35 --> 00:55:39 to go this route my next gift would be to.
00:55:41 --> 00:55:46 Whoever is able to.
00:55:47 --> 00:55:53 Stop racism you know whoever that person might be able to be able to get people
00:55:53 --> 00:55:59 to come together and all just, you know, get along.
00:56:00 --> 00:56:03 I mean, and come together and just get along.
00:56:03 --> 00:56:06 That person is not here yet. I mean, it could be our president,
00:56:06 --> 00:56:09 it could be a world leader,
00:56:09 --> 00:56:13 you know, or whatever, but somebody, you know, like a Gandhi or somebody like
00:56:13 --> 00:56:19 that, who could come and just be able to settle all that's going on in the world.
00:56:19 --> 00:56:21 I would give that person just a
00:56:21 --> 00:56:27 rose what would they who would that be because you said three people i know
00:56:27 --> 00:56:32 but that i mean whoever that person would be the name hasn't that person hasn't
00:56:32 --> 00:56:37 come yet if i if i had it my way i would create that person and you know just
00:56:37 --> 00:56:40 so he could beat somebody.
00:56:40 --> 00:56:44 You know i mean you know we had a
00:56:44 --> 00:56:48 gandhi we had mother theresa we had people
00:56:48 --> 00:56:51 like that you know go back to you know
00:56:51 --> 00:56:54 some of these you know people like harriet tubman and
00:56:54 --> 00:56:58 sojourner truth and those kind of people martin luther king we
00:56:58 --> 00:57:04 need another martin luther king like person right now you know that person could
00:57:04 --> 00:57:09 be coming we never know but if that person came that would be the person that
00:57:09 --> 00:57:15 i would give this rose to because that would be the sign saying you did it that
00:57:15 --> 00:57:17 would be things would be peaceful.
00:57:19 --> 00:57:23 I'm being abstract there but that's where that's where my head is on this that's
00:57:23 --> 00:57:28 where my head is so I'm giving a Leonard kind of answer folks just with Leonard you know,
00:57:29 --> 00:57:36 he let me go first so I gave his answer on that one yep be like Leonard yeah
00:57:36 --> 00:57:41 okay so go ahead Leonard it's your turn so who would your three people be if
00:57:41 --> 00:57:44 you had Santa like abilities to be able to,
00:57:45 --> 00:57:48 you know be able to gift these
00:57:48 --> 00:57:51 people the things that you want to gift them who would these three people be
00:57:51 --> 00:57:55 that you gave gifts to and what would their gifts be so i think the first one
00:57:55 --> 00:58:01 would be my brother david okay not not not you but my i know my brother brother
00:58:01 --> 00:58:05 he actually has a brother named david too yeah i do even though he sometimes
00:58:05 --> 00:58:08 he claims me as his brother too but not no no no.
00:58:11 --> 00:58:18 My brother, David, you know, he always and he's never been and maybe he may or may not ever make it.
00:58:19 --> 00:58:21 But he always talked about going to Las Vegas.
00:58:22 --> 00:58:27 So, yeah. OK. So my gift and maybe this is something we can do in the future.
00:58:27 --> 00:58:34 Maybe it's not, you know, so phanta fantasizing or, you know, not a crazy goal.
00:58:34 --> 00:58:41 But you know take him to Vegas and I mean you know he don't drink or party but
00:58:41 --> 00:58:47 I'm okay with that because we'll hit them buffets maybe a couple of them shows,
00:58:47 --> 00:58:53 so that would probably be my one of my gifts yeah that'd be an awesome gift
00:58:53 --> 00:58:57 man I mean that's something that you should that's something you can work on
00:58:57 --> 00:59:01 well I can tell you it ain't going to be this year oh good,
00:59:02 --> 00:59:04 you know maybe next year.
00:59:06 --> 00:59:12 And then, you know, my second gift would probably be,
00:59:13 --> 00:59:19 I mean, you know, it's kind of hard because I almost feel like I got to keep it in the family.
00:59:19 --> 00:59:21 I would probably...
00:59:22 --> 00:59:26 A gift for my stepmother. That'll probably be my next person.
00:59:26 --> 00:59:35 And just because I just know with my father and when he passed and how she was his rock.
00:59:36 --> 00:59:39 So I'd probably... I know she likes to travel.
00:59:40 --> 00:59:46 So I would probably... And I mean, maybe a month-long cruise.
00:59:47 --> 00:59:50 I don't know if they have such thing as an around-the-world cruise.
00:59:50 --> 00:59:56 They used to have I'm sure they still do.
00:59:57 --> 01:00:01 I'd probably do something like that where she could just go out, relax for a month.
01:00:03 --> 01:00:07 My third person is.
01:00:09 --> 01:00:15 I'd probably take my wife. I know we talked about going around the world too
01:00:15 --> 01:00:18 and maybe going around the world with a theme.
01:00:18 --> 01:00:22 Maybe seeing the seven natural wonders
01:00:22 --> 01:00:25 of the world either and i forget there's
01:00:25 --> 01:00:28 two sets there's like one that's like the modern world
01:00:28 --> 01:00:31 and the ancient world but you know whatever of
01:00:31 --> 01:00:36 those 14 that are still around you know maybe going to see each of those well
01:00:36 --> 01:00:43 i'm sorry 14 minus a couple because i've been to jordan that's one of them petra
01:00:43 --> 01:00:48 and then i didn't even realize but in mexico Chichen Itza,
01:00:49 --> 01:00:51 which is like a ruin, Mexican ruin.
01:00:52 --> 01:00:58 So I guess it'd only be 12. That's one too? Yeah. Oh, okay. Okay.
01:01:00 --> 01:01:06 London's a world traveler folks he'd be all over the place you know I want to
01:01:06 --> 01:01:07 be like him when I grow up you know,
01:01:09 --> 01:01:16 okay those are nice gifts man yeah yeah yeah those probably be my three that's
01:01:16 --> 01:01:22 the rich person you know he only needs Santa like Billardee he can do that any day of the week,
01:01:23 --> 01:01:26 not this year not this year.
01:01:28 --> 01:01:31 Okay are you saying 2024 or 2025 you
