00:01:33 --> 00:01:37 How was that? Okay, you did pretty good. I just let you do that part from now on. Okay.
00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 But anyway, yeah, he's over here waving at me. I'm sorry, folks.
00:01:42 --> 00:01:46 He's waving at me. I was like, what does he want? Okay, but anyway.
00:01:46 --> 00:01:48 But welcome, guys. Thank you for joining us today.
00:01:49 --> 00:01:52 Hope everyone had a great weekend. How was your weekend, sir?
00:01:53 --> 00:02:01 Good and busy. I'm tired, and I can't wait to take a rest break today for sure. What about yours?
00:02:01 --> 00:02:05 I can't complain. I mean, except the Eagles didn't play well this weekend.
00:02:05 --> 00:02:10 But other than that, and the Phillies lost over the weekend. So, you know.
00:02:10 --> 00:02:13 And Dell State and Delaware lost.
00:02:14 --> 00:02:20 Oh, so Dell State did lose that game. Yeah, they did. Oh, wow. Okay. All right.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:25 Man, I was peeping at the score off and on, and then I forgot,
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 and I didn't see the final score. So, wow. Okay.
00:02:30 --> 00:02:35 All right. Well, you know, wasn't a good weekend for sports, local team sports.
00:02:35 --> 00:02:40 So I guess we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens as the next weekend comes about.
00:02:41 --> 00:02:45 Oh, how was your event this weekend down at the campground?
00:02:45 --> 00:02:51 Yeah, everything was good. It was just a busy weekend, and I have not caught up from it yet.
00:02:51 --> 00:02:56 So, you know, I look forward to sleeping.
00:02:58 --> 00:03:01 Okay, well, you're a busy guy, so I get it.
00:03:01 --> 00:03:08 I understand. And, you know, that rest is always much needed and much,
00:03:09 --> 00:03:12 what is it? What am I thinking about?
00:03:13 --> 00:03:17 It's much needed and definitely well received once you get a chance.
00:03:17 --> 00:03:19 Yeah, definitely. Yeah, definitely.
00:03:21 --> 00:03:26 But we got a couple stories to talk to you about today. So we're going to go
00:03:26 --> 00:03:28 ahead and get into these stories.
00:03:29 --> 00:03:33 And let's start out with this particular story.
00:03:33 --> 00:03:38 I saw this story, and I wanted to tell everybody a little bit about this story.
00:03:40 --> 00:03:46 So a white teacher caught on camera telling a black student he looks like a
00:03:46 --> 00:03:49 monkey as his classmates laugh.
00:03:50 --> 00:03:57 So this story is about Legend Whitaker, a six-year-old African-American boy from Polk County,
00:03:58 --> 00:04:03 Florida, who was left humiliated when his white teacher sang a funny birthday
00:04:03 --> 00:04:08 song that compared him to a monkey as his classmates left.
00:04:08 --> 00:04:16 The video of the incident has gone viral, sparking outrage and a district investigation.
00:04:16 --> 00:04:23 On September the 29th, Floor Avenue Elementary School in Bartow,
00:04:24 --> 00:04:27 Legend was celebrating his birthday with his classmates.
00:04:27 --> 00:04:33 And after the teacher led the class to sing the traditional happy birthday,
00:04:33 --> 00:04:37 his teacher asked if he wanted to hear a funny version of the song.
00:04:38 --> 00:04:44 In a video filmed by the teacher herself, she snapped her fingers and sang,
00:04:44 --> 00:04:48 happy birthday to you, you live in a zoo, you look like a monkey,
00:04:48 --> 00:04:50 and you smell like one too.
00:04:51 --> 00:04:57 Students around the boy laughed while the teacher added, who gives him a clap?
00:04:57 --> 00:05:00 And everybody gives him a clap.
00:05:01 --> 00:05:07 According to the legend, legend's mother, Desiree Prather, said she was shocked
00:05:07 --> 00:05:08 when she received the video.
00:05:09 --> 00:05:14 She said her son felt humiliated in front of the classmates and has refused
00:05:14 --> 00:05:16 to return to school since the incident.
00:05:17 --> 00:05:22 He felt as if people are going to call him a monkey and his feelings are hurt.
00:05:23 --> 00:05:29 Now I have to seek counseling for him because he was crying for not to be back
00:05:29 --> 00:05:32 in her class or even go back to that school.
00:05:33 --> 00:05:37 I shouldn't have to wake up every day to see that my son feels this way.
00:05:38 --> 00:05:41 Prather immediately reported the matter to the school, but the staff took her.
00:05:44 --> 00:05:49 Told her that a complaint would only be forwarded to Polk County public schools.
00:05:50 --> 00:05:55 The district later confirmed the matter is under review by its HR department
00:05:55 --> 00:06:01 and said employees are expected to respect all cultures and backgrounds.
00:06:02 --> 00:06:05 As the clip spread on social media, it drew national attention.
00:06:06 --> 00:06:12 Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, uh-oh, it got Ben Crump involved, Comedian D.L.
00:06:12 --> 00:06:19 Hughley and rapper Diamond ATL were all among those who shared it,
00:06:19 --> 00:06:24 meaning the teacher who remains in her position has faced death threats,
00:06:25 --> 00:06:29 according to the Polk Education Association.
00:06:29 --> 00:06:33 So they're worried about her feelings, okay?
00:06:34 --> 00:06:38 Union President Stephanie Yoakum said the teacher in the video is a longtime
00:06:38 --> 00:06:42 staff member and stress that all employees deserve a fair investigation.
00:06:43 --> 00:06:48 A preacher and sister's son deserves an apology and that the teacher should face consequences.
00:06:48 --> 00:06:58 Now, it's interesting. That particular song is a song that I've heard in the
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 past. You know, have you heard that?
00:07:02 --> 00:07:06 I have. Okay. So, it is...
00:07:07 --> 00:07:15 That particular add-on to the song about the monkey is a part of the song that
00:07:15 --> 00:07:18 has been said over and over again over the years.
00:07:19 --> 00:07:23 Now, it all depends on the context in which it was said.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:28 You have to read the room with these type of things.
00:07:29 --> 00:07:35 It's very important to know who's in the room, how they're going to react to
00:07:35 --> 00:07:36 the things you say and do.
00:07:37 --> 00:07:43 As a teacher, if you're going to sing something funny, you have to make sure
00:07:43 --> 00:07:47 it's not going to be negative towards anybody.
00:07:48 --> 00:07:55 It could be funny without having the connotations of calling someone a name.
00:07:56 --> 00:08:00 You know, you never know how people are going to react to things that are being said.
00:08:00 --> 00:08:06 I mean, you know, both of us have kids. I know my youngest kid,
00:08:06 --> 00:08:09 I know something similar happened with him.
00:08:09 --> 00:08:14 Not necessarily the same type of thing where a song was being said,
00:08:14 --> 00:08:15 you know, sang or whatever.
00:08:16 --> 00:08:20 But what happened, it was something that happened with a couple schoolmates
00:08:20 --> 00:08:24 of his that, you know, he felt really embarrassed about.
00:08:24 --> 00:08:27 And he didn't want to go back to school. I mean, this was first grade.
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 Kids that young are very impressionable.
00:08:31 --> 00:08:35 So if this I mean how would you feel about the
00:08:35 --> 00:08:37 situation if this was your child yeah you know I think
00:08:37 --> 00:08:40 I'd be very upset um so one of the things you said is
00:08:40 --> 00:08:45 that you know of course you know I've heard this before but you know I feel
00:08:45 --> 00:08:50 like and maybe you can mimic this when I've heard it before I've heard it in
00:08:50 --> 00:08:56 terms of kids making fun of each other you know maybe even black kids,
00:08:56 --> 00:08:58 making fun of other black kids.
00:08:58 --> 00:09:05 But this one was a little bit different because it felt like it was targeted.
00:09:06 --> 00:09:10 And, and I only say targeted because of course, you know, it's a song we all
00:09:10 --> 00:09:15 heard it, but for her to sing this song in front of everyone else in the class
00:09:15 --> 00:09:18 and you know, Dave, these kids have probably never heard that song before.
00:09:19 --> 00:09:21 Cause you know, it's like things that we grew up with, you know,
00:09:22 --> 00:09:25 these kids right now, you know, I asked my, My daughter was a cassette tape.
00:09:26 --> 00:09:28 They don't even know what a cassette tape is. You know what I mean?
00:09:28 --> 00:09:30 It's like we're just in a different generation.
00:09:32 --> 00:09:37 So if I had never heard this song before, I would have felt something.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:43 And, Dave, you already know, anytime they reference a black person to a monkey,
00:09:43 --> 00:09:46 we always come in a certain way. I know.
00:09:47 --> 00:09:49 The hair is standing up on her back.
00:09:50 --> 00:09:53 The hair is standing up on her back and everything, man. You know,
00:09:53 --> 00:09:57 we, we just don't like it. We just don't like it. Yeah. Yeah.
00:09:58 --> 00:10:03 So what, what I'm surprised about is, was it the teacher that put this,
00:10:03 --> 00:10:06 like who put the video out? You know, like. Yeah.
00:10:07 --> 00:10:12 That's a good question. They didn't say in the story how the video,
00:10:12 --> 00:10:19 well, I'm sure they thought it was probably innocent at the time that the video was being shot.
00:10:19 --> 00:10:21 They didn't think anything of it because, I mean, after all,
00:10:22 --> 00:10:25 you know, she said it was a funny version of the song.
00:10:25 --> 00:10:31 So she, I guess thinking that she didn't do anything wrong, just put it out there.
00:10:32 --> 00:10:34 You know, I'm assuming that's what happened.
00:10:35 --> 00:10:39 So, but Because, you know, it's not saying anything other I mean,
00:10:40 --> 00:10:46 and In the temperament, when you read the story And you look at the story and so forth And,
00:10:46 --> 00:10:50 you know It seems like they're really concerned about The teacher's feelings
00:10:50 --> 00:10:58 in this Yeah You know, instead of Worrying about the kid's overall psyche You know,
00:10:58 --> 00:11:02 the kid doesn't want to go back to school That's crazy You know Well.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:10 You know, and then in the story, it's, you know, it's really crazy because,
00:11:10 --> 00:11:17 you know, it just doesn't make sense because there's a picture of the little boy.
00:11:17 --> 00:11:21 And, you know, obviously there's white kids in the class as well as,
00:11:22 --> 00:11:25 you know, it looks like there's some black kids in the class as well.
00:11:25 --> 00:11:28 But they definitely centered the little boy in the picture.
00:11:28 --> 00:11:32 They don't show the other faces, you know. And, you know, Dave,
00:11:32 --> 00:11:38 even thinking about that, I mean, isn't that, well, let me ask this,
00:11:38 --> 00:11:42 does she have permission to be circulating that video of a minor?
00:11:42 --> 00:11:45 Because, you know, a lot of times, and I mean, it may be different because,
00:11:45 --> 00:11:50 you know, I know when I worked at a school, all the students had to sign a photo waiver.
00:11:50 --> 00:11:55 So, like, just in case, but, you know, still to kind of share that with kids and,
00:11:55 --> 00:12:00 you know, I mean, I don't know if he feels more embarrassed now because,
00:12:00 --> 00:12:04 you know, that video kind of went viral, but it is disheartening to hear because
00:12:04 --> 00:12:07 he looked very innocent in the video.
00:12:07 --> 00:12:13 Yeah, yeah. And he does. He looks very innocent in the video. And it's really a shame.
00:12:13 --> 00:12:19 I mean, you know, people don't, like I said, man, we don't know how people want to react to things.
00:12:19 --> 00:12:29 I mean, and especially these days, all I can say is that we hope that this kid is able to.
00:12:30 --> 00:12:37 Come back from this and to hopefully they're not going to be scarred over the whole thing.
00:12:38 --> 00:12:42 But it's, I guess as a parent, you know, because I mean, you know,
00:12:43 --> 00:12:44 I mean, of course, my kids are grown.
00:12:44 --> 00:12:48 I mean, you still have kids that are in school, but of course, they're older.
00:12:49 --> 00:12:54 But nowadays, you know, there's so much peer pressure when it comes to schools
00:12:54 --> 00:12:56 and these kids and so forth.
00:12:56 --> 00:13:03 And seeing, like, you know, how many videos do we see posted every day of kids fighting in school?
00:13:03 --> 00:13:06 And they're not only fighting with each other, they're fighting the teachers,
00:13:06 --> 00:13:10 they're fighting, you know, and a lot of it starts with, you know,
00:13:11 --> 00:13:17 jealousy and those type of things, you know, so we definitely need to be cognizant
00:13:17 --> 00:13:22 of what's going on as far as these schools are concerned, and especially with
00:13:22 --> 00:13:24 the situation that we have in hand.
00:13:24 --> 00:13:27 And, you know, when they started the whole busing thing and they started sending
00:13:27 --> 00:13:32 us to the schools, the different schools and so forth, we don't have the,
00:13:33 --> 00:13:39 you know, a lot of the schools that have majority black or majority white anymore,
00:13:39 --> 00:13:44 you know, unless it's a private school or a charter school or something like that.
00:13:44 --> 00:13:50 It's crazy because it's where we are. It's exactly where we are.
00:13:50 --> 00:13:54 So, I don't know. you got anything else that you want to say about that?
00:13:55 --> 00:14:01 I mean, because like I said, man, it's, it's, it's, I feel for the little guy and I know his mother.
00:14:01 --> 00:14:08 I mean, you know, and it obviously it's, it's made a lot of, it's made a lot of sense.
00:14:08 --> 00:14:12 And it's reached a lot of people because when you got people like Benjamin Crump
00:14:12 --> 00:14:17 and, and, and those types of people, you know, sharing the story and all of that, then, you know,
00:14:18 --> 00:14:25 you know, people, people care, people understand about this type of stuff.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:30 You know, what's your thoughts on that? Yeah, no, I mean, I agree.
00:14:30 --> 00:14:36 You know what I mean? I think she was wrong, and we'll see if she pays some consequences for it.
00:14:38 --> 00:14:41 Okay. All right, well, we'll see because I don't think that's going to go away.
00:14:42 --> 00:14:45 So we'll see what happens. Definitely we'll see what happens.
00:14:46 --> 00:14:51 All right, moving on to our next story. You and I have talked about this in
00:14:51 --> 00:14:57 the past, and I just kind of saw this story again, but I think I see some new names in here.
00:14:57 --> 00:14:59 I wanted to bring it to your attention.
00:15:00 --> 00:15:04 You know, you and I have talked about sundown towns in the past, right?
00:15:06 --> 00:15:10 So I saw the story where it said 13 U.S.
00:15:10 --> 00:15:14 Cities with racist histories black people still avoid.
00:15:18 --> 00:15:21 Yeah, when I saw that, I said, oh, okay, that's interesting.
00:15:21 --> 00:15:28 Okay. So I wanted to talk I just wanted to mention these cities very quick And
00:15:28 --> 00:15:34 hopefully We're avoiding them I'll put it that way It says,
00:15:36 --> 00:15:42 Segregation still Scare many black folks away From expulsion to massacres These
00:15:42 --> 00:15:45 13 cities Hold stories of violence
00:15:45 --> 00:15:50 That keep black folks On alert and away I'm just going to go through,
00:15:51 --> 00:15:56 name the cities maybe say a little bit about the cities as we go through the
00:15:56 --> 00:16:00 first one I'm going to mention and tell me if you've ever been in any of these places Leonard.
00:16:03 --> 00:16:06 Jasper, Texas nope okay,
00:16:08 --> 00:16:14 That on June 7th, 1998, James Byrd, a black man, was murdered by three white men in Jasper, Texas.
00:16:14 --> 00:16:18 That was where he was dragged by the truck. You remember that story?
00:16:19 --> 00:16:22 Yeah, I do remember. Yeah, that happened in Jasper.
00:16:24 --> 00:16:29 Next one is Okooie, Florida.
00:16:30 --> 00:16:36 How do you spell that one? O-C-O-E-E? O-C-O-E-E.
00:16:37 --> 00:16:41 Oh, never heard of that one either. I'm about to Google that to see where that one is. Yeah.
00:16:41 --> 00:16:44 It says, on November the 2nd, 1920,
00:16:45 --> 00:16:51 during the presidential election, black residents Okui attempted to exercise
00:16:51 --> 00:16:56 their rights to vote, leading to violent retaliation by white mobs.
00:16:56 --> 00:17:02 Dozens of black folks were hung, and black-owned homes were burned to the ground amid the violence.
00:17:03 --> 00:17:06 So it looks like this one is near Orlando.
00:17:06 --> 00:17:09 Okay. On the suburbs of Orlando.
00:17:11 --> 00:17:14 Okay. Never been there either. Okay.
00:17:15 --> 00:17:19 Foresight County, Georgia. I've heard it before. Yeah, I've heard it.
00:17:19 --> 00:17:21 I know that's west. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:17:22 --> 00:17:25 Oh, and you know what? I think when I go to Alabama, I think I drive through
00:17:25 --> 00:17:29 there. Oh, you do? Yeah, I think so. Wow, okay.
00:17:30 --> 00:17:36 I have heard of that one. Okay. In 1912, Forsyte County faced a day of racial terror.
00:17:37 --> 00:17:43 White mobs violently drove out more than 1 black residents from town after
00:17:43 --> 00:17:47 three black men were accused of assaulting a white woman.
00:17:47 --> 00:17:54 Then 18-year-old Mae Crow, today less than 5% of the town is black,
00:17:54 --> 00:17:57 and the Georgians generally avoid the area.
00:17:58 --> 00:18:06 Oh, yeah, I remember this. Oprah went on air interviewing white people from Foresight.
00:18:06 --> 00:18:09 And let's just say the N-word was everywhere. I remember when she did that.
00:18:10 --> 00:18:14 Yeah, so it looks like this one is, I have my locations mixed up.
00:18:14 --> 00:18:18 Looking at the map, this is southeast of Atlanta.
00:18:18 --> 00:18:23 Okay. And it looks like it's two-thirds of the way if you're going to go to
00:18:23 --> 00:18:30 Macon, Georgia. So it's not too far from Macon there. Yeah, that's not a good place either. Anyway.
00:18:32 --> 00:18:36 All right. The next one, Irwin, Texas. I mean, I'm sorry, Irwin,
00:18:37 --> 00:18:38 Tennessee. Never heard. Okay.
00:18:39 --> 00:18:44 As a sundown town, Irwin relies on a mix of discriminatory laws,
00:18:45 --> 00:18:48 threats, and acts of violence to keep non-white residents out.
00:18:48 --> 00:18:56 So, Elwood Watson, a historian at East Tennessee State, described a billboard
00:18:56 --> 00:19:02 in Irwin that told black folks, don't let the sun set on your black A.
00:19:03 --> 00:19:07 Wow. That was a billboard. Yeah, that's crazy.
00:19:08 --> 00:19:13 Okay. All right. Next one, Harrison, Arkansas.
00:19:14 --> 00:19:18 I have heard of that one. Oh, you have? Okay, I've never heard of it.
00:19:18 --> 00:19:22 In fact, they ought to send it to this guy who did a video going to Harrison,
00:19:22 --> 00:19:28 a white guy, and he basically stood on a corner and he said something about like equality.
00:19:28 --> 00:19:30 Oh, he had a sign that says Black Lives Matter.
00:19:31 --> 00:19:37 And people were literally riding by, cursing him, calling him an in-lover,
00:19:37 --> 00:19:39 you know, all that stuff.
00:19:40 --> 00:19:48 Wow. Okay. Yeah, well, yeah, it says in 1905, a white mob stormed the jail in
00:19:48 --> 00:19:50 Harrison, Arkansas, and took two black prisoners.
00:19:51 --> 00:19:53 They were whipped in order to leave town.
00:19:53 --> 00:19:57 The mob then went on a rampage through Harrison's black community,
00:19:57 --> 00:20:02 further solidifying the town's reputation as a sundown town.
00:20:03 --> 00:20:06 Okay, Martinsville, Indiana.
00:20:07 --> 00:20:10 Indiana. No, no, not that one, not that one. Okay, all right,
00:20:10 --> 00:20:13 this is Indiana. Nope, never heard of that one either.
00:20:14 --> 00:20:20 Martinsville, Indiana, a former sundown town, holds a cautionary pass as a harrowing
00:20:20 --> 00:20:26 story of the girl in the yellow scarf still haunts folks till today.
00:20:26 --> 00:20:32 In September 1968, Carol Jenkins, who sold encyclopedias door-to-door,
00:20:32 --> 00:20:36 alarmed a resident that she was being followed by a pair of white males.
00:20:36 --> 00:20:43 While the homeowner did alert authorities, she was later found with a screwdriver through her chest.
00:20:44 --> 00:20:49 And to this day, folks are on alert in Martinville's history.
00:20:50 --> 00:20:57 Wow. Okay. Appleton, Wisconsin. I know you haven't been in that area, I'm sure.
00:20:58 --> 00:21:03 Okay. It says, Appleton, Wisconsin is a well-known former Sundown town,
00:21:03 --> 00:21:08 earning the title for the generations through the 1930s to the 1970s.
00:21:08 --> 00:21:15 Even Emmy-nominated comedian and actress Nicole Byer shared her hair-raising
00:21:15 --> 00:21:18 experiences in the town and vowed to never return.
00:21:18 --> 00:21:24 During my show, I had a white host, a black feature introductory act,
00:21:24 --> 00:21:26 and the crowd was so unruly.
00:21:27 --> 00:21:29 And at one point, my black feature
00:21:29 --> 00:21:34 was on stage. A guy in the crowd was like, smile, we can't see you.
00:21:37 --> 00:21:42 Okay. Wow. Okay. Liberty, Tennessee.
00:21:44 --> 00:21:53 Liberty, Tennessee, historically known as a sundown town, embodied the symbol of the black mule.
00:21:53 --> 00:21:59 The symbol painted in black on a mountain was a blatantly racist warning to
00:21:59 --> 00:22:04 black folks, meaning get your black, you know what, out of town before nightfall.
00:22:07 --> 00:22:10 Okay. Talk about being subtle here. Right.
00:22:12 --> 00:22:14 Let's see. I don't know if this thing is refreshed, Norman.
00:22:15 --> 00:22:22 The next one was Louisville, Kentucky. Oh, I'm surprised.
00:22:24 --> 00:22:28 Why do you say that? Just because there are a decent number of black people
00:22:28 --> 00:22:32 there, so I would have thought that was safe.
00:22:32 --> 00:22:33 Yeah.
00:22:33 --> 00:22:36 Actually, there's two towns in Kentucky. You got Louisville.
00:22:37 --> 00:22:41 Oh, okay. Louisville, Kentucky. Although a former sundown town,
00:22:41 --> 00:22:48 Louisville isn't entirely white, it has deeply racist roots.
00:22:49 --> 00:23:00 In 1911, a city ordinance prevented black folks from owning property in certain parts of the city,
00:23:00 --> 00:23:05 which was struck down by the Supreme Court in 1917. 17.
00:23:06 --> 00:23:09 They didn't want blacks there, and they made sure they knew about it.
00:23:10 --> 00:23:17 Kennewick, Washington. Kennewick was a well-known sundown town even through
00:23:17 --> 00:23:22 the 1960s, according to Racial Restrictive Covenants Project.
00:23:23 --> 00:23:29 This town was so notorious for its racist activity that black workers were expected
00:23:29 --> 00:23:36 to cross the Columbus River Bridge to East Pasco before or dark, just to get home safely.
00:23:37 --> 00:23:44 Corbin, Kentucky. Corbin, Kentucky became a sundown town in October 13, 1919.
00:23:46 --> 00:23:52 A disturbing incident solidified the title when 200 black railroad workers were
00:23:52 --> 00:23:59 forcibly removed from Corbin by a white mob in what became known as the Corbin Race Riot.
00:23:59 --> 00:24:05 The black community was driven out and the town was mainly maintained as a nearly
00:24:05 --> 00:24:08 all-white population for decades. Wow.
00:24:09 --> 00:24:15 North Platte, Nebraska. I know you've been to Nebraska, man. Oh, nope.
00:24:19 --> 00:24:24 In 1929, a black man named Louis Seaman was accused of shooting and killing
00:24:24 --> 00:24:29 a white police officer, prompting a white mob, why is it always a white mob,
00:24:29 --> 00:24:33 to demand the expulsion of all black residents from North Platte.
00:24:34 --> 00:24:39 Seaman was found dead shortly afterwards, and the mob forcibly removed the black community.
00:24:39 --> 00:24:42 How can somebody remove a whole black community?
00:24:43 --> 00:24:47 That's what's so amazing. You notice that's kind of been the theme throughout
00:24:47 --> 00:24:51 all these stories, that there was a white mob that removed the community.
00:24:51 --> 00:24:54 I mean, all we got to do is look at Tulsa Massacre.
00:24:54 --> 00:24:56 Yeah, that's true. That's true.
00:24:56 --> 00:25:01 I'm sure either they got to remove it or they got to burn it down, one or the other. Wow.
00:25:01 --> 00:25:06 The last one is Spring Valley, Illinois.
00:25:06 --> 00:25:13 In 1895, after a robbery and shooting incident involving an Italian minor,
00:25:13 --> 00:25:20 white minors in Spring Valley, Illinois, formed a mob and demanded the expulsion of black minors.
00:25:21 --> 00:25:27 Per the notable Kentucky African Americans database, the mob's action led to
00:25:27 --> 00:25:32 the forced removal of black residents from the town.
00:25:34 --> 00:25:37 Now, that's interesting. did you hear what i said in
00:25:37 --> 00:25:40 1895 it said after robbie and
00:25:40 --> 00:25:44 shooting of italian minor right
00:25:44 --> 00:25:51 but the black miners were were forcibly removed out of town so the history repeats
00:25:51 --> 00:25:58 this yeah there you go there you go so but for those of you who are not familiar
00:25:58 --> 00:26:03 with sundown towns you know basically if you listen to what I just said,
00:26:03 --> 00:26:08 sundown towns are definitely cities around in America that you,
00:26:09 --> 00:26:13 definitely do not want to be in after the sun goes down.
00:26:14 --> 00:26:18 And believe it or not, you know, we've got some very close to us as well.
00:26:19 --> 00:26:22 You know, that have been listed as sundown towns in the past.
00:26:22 --> 00:26:27 But you guys, when you're traveling across the United States and you're going
00:26:27 --> 00:26:32 through some towns and you kind of notice things look a little different, pay attention.
00:26:33 --> 00:26:38 Because, I mean, somebody like Leonard might be able to pass through because
00:26:38 --> 00:26:43 of his stature and how he looks, light-skinned.
00:26:43 --> 00:26:45 Somebody like me may not make it through there.
00:26:46 --> 00:26:49 Don't try it, Dave. Try it. No, that's okay.
00:26:50 --> 00:26:52 I'll let you test the waters for me.
00:26:54 --> 00:26:58 But anyway, just be cognizant of where you're traveling to, folks,
00:26:58 --> 00:27:02 because these sundown towns are really real. We just named a few of them.
00:27:02 --> 00:27:06 But, you know, even though they sound like they're in other sections of the
00:27:06 --> 00:27:12 world or in the United States, you'd be surprised in this area where some of the sundown towns are.
00:27:13 --> 00:27:16 So, you know, so you definitely need to do your research.
00:27:16 --> 00:27:22 Okay. Make sure you're not in a certain area after dark. Put it that way.
00:27:23 --> 00:27:27 All right. Let's move on to our next story. Yep. So, there you are.
00:27:27 --> 00:27:30 Our next story. And I thought this was interesting. And when I heard the title, I was like, huh?
00:27:31 --> 00:27:40 So the title of this story is Trump says there are two N-words that cannot be used in public.
00:27:41 --> 00:27:44 All right, so Dave, what do you think the first N-word is?
00:27:45 --> 00:27:51 I know what the first N-word is. It starts with an N. It starts with an N and ends with an R.
00:27:52 --> 00:27:55 Well, I need more.
00:27:56 --> 00:27:59 You know what we've been called for a
00:27:59 --> 00:28:02 majority of our existence as far
00:28:02 --> 00:28:07 as black people in america for years all right for anyone that may be white
00:28:07 --> 00:28:12 who's listening who may not know what that is i need more it's what leonard
00:28:12 --> 00:28:21 is being right now but hold on is that with an a on the end or yeah Well, right now,
00:28:21 --> 00:28:30 he's been the slang version of the ends of the egg. So that's what he's been right now.
00:28:31 --> 00:28:35 All right. So, Dave, your boy, President Trump.
00:28:35 --> 00:28:41 I know. Earlier this week was at a meeting with some military leaders when he
00:28:41 --> 00:28:46 told them that there are two N-words that cannot be used.
00:28:46 --> 00:28:54 So he says Later he said to him He avoids using the n-word Nuclear.
00:28:56 --> 00:28:59 Boys using that but and it's
00:28:59 --> 00:29:02 funny because it says that when he first talked about you know
00:29:02 --> 00:29:05 two n words nobody in the crowd laughed
00:29:05 --> 00:29:08 everyone was kind of just silent and i
00:29:08 --> 00:29:13 guess he noticed it because he said something similar to you know if y'all are
00:29:13 --> 00:29:19 just going to sit there y'all might well just go home yep when he said his next
00:29:19 --> 00:29:27 line everyone started laughing so yeah i don't know I saw the video when it happened.
00:29:28 --> 00:29:32 Yeah, you were right. Everybody was stone-faced. Nobody left in the very beginning.
00:29:33 --> 00:29:37 And there was some big, you know, and these are roomful of Marines.
00:29:37 --> 00:29:41 I think they were Marines, I think. Yeah, Quantico, yeah. Yeah, Quantico.
00:29:41 --> 00:29:46 And, you know, some of the top Marines in the country.
00:29:48 --> 00:29:52 And there were Blacks. I mean, they were kind of sprinkled throughout the thing,
00:29:52 --> 00:29:54 but nobody cracked a smile.
00:29:54 --> 00:30:01 Nobody did and then you do hear him say if you guys are not gonna you know react
00:30:01 --> 00:30:06 or laugh or whatever then you know might well get out of here you know and i
00:30:06 --> 00:30:08 was like is this guy for real.
00:30:09 --> 00:30:14 First of all why would you bring up two n words right and i and think that was
00:30:14 --> 00:30:18 gonna fly yeah and you know that's why i was thinking too it's like okay if
00:30:18 --> 00:30:20 you know there's a very offensive word.
00:30:21 --> 00:30:26 I'm not going to join together other words that are not offensive just to kind
00:30:26 --> 00:30:27 of, you know, fits your speech.
00:30:27 --> 00:30:32 So, I mean, I did think that was very interesting that he did that like that,
00:30:32 --> 00:30:37 but, you know, at the end of the day, that is your boy, you know,
00:30:37 --> 00:30:38 your role model, mentor.
00:30:39 --> 00:30:43 Don't be saying, look, my name is Kanye. Don't be saying that.
00:30:43 --> 00:30:46 Don't be saying that like that. people believe me look
00:30:46 --> 00:30:49 i i you know i just
00:30:49 --> 00:30:53 never seen a person who just feels that they can say and do anything that they
00:30:53 --> 00:31:02 want but then why why why wouldn't he because who's stopping them has anybody
00:31:02 --> 00:31:07 stopped him from doing anything i mean not for the most part not for the most
00:31:07 --> 00:31:08 part I mean, they may delay them.
00:31:09 --> 00:31:15 They might, you know, I mean, you know, the federal workers go out,
00:31:15 --> 00:31:18 you know, they're placed on furlough.
00:31:18 --> 00:31:23 But, you know, some of them still had to report the work, but they're not getting paid.
00:31:23 --> 00:31:27 But there's one federal worker that's getting paid. Oh, yeah.
00:31:27 --> 00:31:30 And those members in Congress, you know, they're getting paid.
00:31:30 --> 00:31:31 Yeah, they're getting paid.
00:31:31 --> 00:31:36 You know, so their salary, they're still getting their tax or whatever, but I don't know.
00:31:37 --> 00:31:43 I don't get it. I really don't get it. I give up on them. I give up. I give up. I really do.
00:31:44 --> 00:31:51 And, you know, technically, you know, anybody that does a podcast can literally
00:31:51 --> 00:31:55 talk about something that he said or done every day of the week.
00:31:57 --> 00:32:06 That yeah it's unbelievable so anyway the fact that he would even say that though this just.
00:32:07 --> 00:32:11 Moving on i i want look i don't want to get us flagged don't don't don't do
00:32:11 --> 00:32:17 it i know you're itching to go offline i am i am i'm real close i'm real close
00:32:17 --> 00:32:23 i'm on the edge man i'm on the edge you know so all right going from that particular
00:32:23 --> 00:32:26 president to one that we did really light.
00:32:26 --> 00:32:30 It says Obama tops Trump in the new favorability poll.
00:32:31 --> 00:32:35 I didn't know anything about the favorability poll until I saw this,
00:32:35 --> 00:32:42 but it says former President Barack Obama received more his view more favorably
00:32:42 --> 00:32:45 by the American people than current President Donald Trump.
00:32:46 --> 00:32:52 A new poll finds. According to the poll released by Marquette University Law School,
00:32:53 --> 00:33:02 57% of the Americans view Obama favorably, while 40% view him unfavorably,
00:33:02 --> 00:33:05 a plus 17 net favorability.
00:33:06 --> 00:33:13 Trump, however, is viewed favorably by just 42%, with 57% viewing him unfavorably,
00:33:14 --> 00:33:17 a minus 15 net favorability.
00:33:17 --> 00:33:24 The poll contrasts Trump's recent comments about Obama when he criticized whom
00:33:24 --> 00:33:29 he criticized during a meeting with military leaders. So that must've been doing the same thing.
00:33:30 --> 00:33:36 One thing with Obama, I have zero respect for him as president, but he would.
00:33:40 --> 00:33:44 But he would bop down those stairs really cool.
00:33:47 --> 00:33:50 Oh my god you can't
00:33:50 --> 00:33:55 make this stuff up man you really can't you can't make it up it said the marquette
00:33:55 --> 00:34:00 law poll compares several other presidents including ronald reagan who received
00:34:00 --> 00:34:08 the highest marks with its 58 favorability rate rating and a 30 unfavorability rating,
00:34:08 --> 00:34:12 with net plus 28% rating.
00:34:12 --> 00:34:14 Former President George H.W.
00:34:15 --> 00:34:24 Bush had a plus 17% rating, and Bill Clinton and George Bush both scored plus 8.
00:34:25 --> 00:34:30 Former President Joe Biden had the lowest favorability of all the presidents
00:34:30 --> 00:34:39 surveyed, wow, with a net 24, a minus 24 net favorability, wow. That's crazy.
00:34:40 --> 00:34:45 Yeah. It says, The promise of hope and change are defining features of the Obama
00:34:45 --> 00:34:51 presidential campaign and still influence assessments of its presidency.
00:34:51 --> 00:34:58 The polls surveyed over 1 adults nationwide between September 5th and 24th
00:34:58 --> 00:35:02 as the 2025 midterm approach.
00:35:02 --> 00:35:10 Voters who once backed Obama and later swung to Trump are expected to play a decisive role.
00:35:13 --> 00:35:18 I find it interesting with the numbers. Well, and it's good to know that Trump,
00:35:19 --> 00:35:26 I mean, that Obama still has that type of appeal to people versus Donald Trump.
00:35:26 --> 00:35:32 But to see that Biden was so low? Wow, that's crazy.
00:35:33 --> 00:35:37 I mean, what's your thoughts on what I just read?
00:35:38 --> 00:35:42 Yeah, I mean, I think everything seems accurate to me. I don't have any,
00:35:42 --> 00:35:47 Biden does seem low, but, you know, I mean, I feel it.
00:35:47 --> 00:35:53 I guess compared to the people that they did the poll on, I guess in that group,
00:35:53 --> 00:35:55 I guess he would be low in that group. Yeah.
00:35:56 --> 00:36:00 I mean, you can't really compare them to, well, I mean, I guess you can,
00:36:00 --> 00:36:05 but yeah, I mean, Biden's did seem low, but at the end of the day,
00:36:05 --> 00:36:09 most people aren't concerned about how Biden ranked.
00:36:10 --> 00:36:17 By just Trump and Obama. And Biden was the only one-term president of the group anyway.
00:36:17 --> 00:36:22 So, you know, so I guess he would be the person that would be in,
00:36:22 --> 00:36:24 you know, last in that, in that, in that poll.
00:36:25 --> 00:36:31 So, but, I mean, people, I mean, in your thoughts, do you think this poll is right?
00:36:32 --> 00:36:36 I mean, you can always give us your opinion on that. Do you think that they got this right?
00:36:37 --> 00:36:42 Or do you think One of the people that they named was lower than they should have been.
00:36:43 --> 00:36:46 You know, give us your thoughts and let us know. We've been wrestling in hearing
00:36:46 --> 00:36:48 what you had to say about that.
00:36:49 --> 00:36:56 All right. Okay. That brings us to my favorite part. Your favorite part, man. Yeah.
00:36:56 --> 00:37:02 So what we haven't talked about, I figured we'll make, we would make as the
00:37:02 --> 00:37:06 Leonard's favorite part of the show, which is Dave's Corner.
00:37:07 --> 00:37:12 Dave's Corner's question today. What's your thoughts on the Diddy verdict?
00:37:14 --> 00:37:20 You tell me, Leonard? Yeah, so for me, I feel like his sentencing was fairly
00:37:20 --> 00:37:25 just, and I just say in terms of, you know, the amount of time he got versus,
00:37:25 --> 00:37:28 you know, what they had on him or what they didn't have on him.
00:37:29 --> 00:37:36 I was curious if, is that four years minus time served or did it?
00:37:36 --> 00:37:41 Yeah, they did say that, yeah, they did say that since they were taking into
00:37:41 --> 00:37:43 account the time that he Okay.
00:37:43 --> 00:37:46 So to me, that sounds like three years. It could be two.
00:37:47 --> 00:37:50 It could be two. And keep in mind, this is federal, so. Right.
00:37:51 --> 00:37:54 He could be getting out within a year and a half to two years.
00:37:55 --> 00:37:57 Oh, wow. That's crazy. Yeah.
00:37:57 --> 00:38:04 Yeah. I was trying to think, would you go to jail for 500 million for five years or less?
00:38:05 --> 00:38:10 Would that 500 million be waiting for me when I got out? Yeah,
00:38:10 --> 00:38:11 unless you give it to somebody.
00:38:12 --> 00:38:16 I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I have to think about that a little bit.
00:38:17 --> 00:38:20 Yeah. I go to federal prison. I wouldn't go to, I wouldn't go.
00:38:21 --> 00:38:25 No, I wouldn't. Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Federal? I think I can get through
00:38:25 --> 00:38:26 federal without a problem.
00:38:26 --> 00:38:28 All right, David. What are your
00:38:28 --> 00:38:33 thoughts on, what's your thoughts on the Diddy verdict? Wait, hold on.
00:38:34 --> 00:38:39 Well, let me, let me say this. That's all you got to say about the verdict.
00:38:40 --> 00:38:43 I mean, I saw clips of it. I didn't actually see everything.
00:38:43 --> 00:38:48 Oh, okay. Feel free to include me if I missed something.
00:38:48 --> 00:38:55 Oh, okay. Briefly. Well, I just think the whole thing kind of became a witch
00:38:55 --> 00:38:58 hunt because they spent a lot of money on this trial.
00:38:59 --> 00:39:01 You know, millions and millions of dollars on this trial.
00:39:02 --> 00:39:06 And I don't think the feds were able to do what they thought they were going
00:39:06 --> 00:39:08 to do. I don't think they didn't get the RICO. Rico.
00:39:09 --> 00:39:14 Yeah, they didn't get any of that. And then even with the things that he's being
00:39:14 --> 00:39:19 charged with, you know, when you look at it overall, you know,
00:39:19 --> 00:39:23 you talk about Cassie, you're talking about, you know, now, you know.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:30 Unfortunately for him, you know, there was evidence of him doing what,
00:39:30 --> 00:39:32 you know, there was some wrongdoing with him.
00:39:32 --> 00:39:35 Of course, he was on camera physically beating her.
00:39:36 --> 00:39:43 You know, there was definitely proof of him, you know, being involved in prostitution
00:39:43 --> 00:39:45 and so forth and so forth.
00:39:46 --> 00:39:52 But, you know, they didn't get him on the things they really wanted to get him on.
00:39:53 --> 00:39:59 And so, you know, it just became like more of a spectacle.
00:39:59 --> 00:40:06 And, you know, the verdict came out 30 years on the same day of the OJ.
00:40:06 --> 00:40:13 I did, I did hear that yeah, I mean so it was just, you know I mean,
00:40:13 --> 00:40:20 it was just one of those situations that it just became like a media showcase, I mean,
00:40:21 --> 00:40:23 basically, you know who the winner was in this.
00:40:25 --> 00:40:28 Cassie. Yep, exactly. Because he got her money.
00:40:29 --> 00:40:34 You know, there's like a hundred, there's a hundred of civil cases against Diddy
00:40:34 --> 00:40:36 right now, people trying to get money out of him.
00:40:36 --> 00:40:39 I'm sure. And he's claiming he's broke now.
00:40:39 --> 00:40:44 You know, they, you know, like that plane that he had, they're,
00:40:44 --> 00:40:45 they're renting the plane out.
00:40:45 --> 00:40:49 I mean, it's, you know, they're saying that, you know, he has no more money.
00:40:50 --> 00:40:53 Well, I'm sure he does. I'm sure he got money somewhere, you know,
00:40:53 --> 00:40:56 but I mean, it's It's just a very interesting thing.
00:40:57 --> 00:41:00 But like I said, I don't think he's going to be in jail much longer.
00:41:01 --> 00:41:05 You know, he was hoping that they, you know, he had booked.
00:41:05 --> 00:41:09 There was an engagement that he had booked for next week, thinking he was going
00:41:09 --> 00:41:11 to be out. Did you hear about that? Did you hear 50 Cent trolling him?
00:41:12 --> 00:41:16 No, I didn't. He said 50, there was, he had booked something that he was supposed
00:41:16 --> 00:41:20 to speak at next week in Miami, thinking he was going to get out.
00:41:21 --> 00:41:29 50 said well you know he posted on x said well it doesn't look like your boy's
00:41:29 --> 00:41:34 going to be available to make those make that speaking engagement but i am i can come do it for you.
00:41:35 --> 00:41:41 So you know 50 is he's so wrong man you know so and then 50 was up there talking
00:41:41 --> 00:41:46 about how he said i really don't before the verdict came out he said i don't
00:41:46 --> 00:41:50 i in my opinion y'all shouldn't let him out because he let him out I fear for
00:41:50 --> 00:41:52 my life because he threatened me,
00:41:53 --> 00:41:57 you know I mean you can't write this stuff when it comes to him so you know,
00:41:58 --> 00:42:01 but here it is you know we got the verdict.
00:42:03 --> 00:42:06 All of that it was kind of a letdown really to
00:42:06 --> 00:42:09 be honest with you because you know the feds were really out
00:42:09 --> 00:42:12 to try to get this dude and they didn't get him the way
00:42:12 --> 00:42:19 they thought they were going to get him no so but you know so but you guys you
00:42:19 --> 00:42:23 let us know what you thought of the verdict do you think that it was just i
00:42:23 --> 00:42:29 think cassie was the big winner here because she walked away with the money
00:42:29 --> 00:42:31 that she walked away from in her civil suit.
00:42:32 --> 00:42:37 And she was, I mean, I know a lot of people don't like saying this,
00:42:38 --> 00:42:41 but she was a willing participant in all of it. Yeah.
00:42:41 --> 00:42:47 You know, so she's definitely the person who's winning out here.
00:42:48 --> 00:42:51 So, but you guys can let us know what you think about it. I mean.
00:42:52 --> 00:42:54 You know, you saw what happened.
00:42:54 --> 00:42:56 You guys have been following the trial, you know.
00:42:57 --> 00:43:00 You guys let us know what you think. Okay.
00:43:00 --> 00:43:04 You know, we just wanted to see, put it out there to see if everybody,
00:43:04 --> 00:43:07 I'm sure people have their own opinions about it.
00:43:07 --> 00:43:14 And I'm sure Kelly has opinions about it too. You know, so I'm sure, I'm sure.
00:43:14 --> 00:43:19 So, but anyway, I guess that's everything we got to talk to you guys about today.
00:43:20 --> 00:43:24 And you can always reach out to us, like we said. So we thank you for taking
00:43:24 --> 00:43:29 the time to listen to us. and we will be back with you guys again next week.
