00:01:17 --> 00:01:18 The Fever,
00:01:18 --> 00:01:23 with DJ Rives and his partner, Mr.
00:01:23 --> 00:01:25 Bobby Keys. That's 10 a.m.
00:01:25 --> 00:01:30 On 101.5, The Fever, on Saturday mornings, Eastern Time.
00:01:31 --> 00:01:34 I'm hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young. What's going on, sir?
00:01:34 --> 00:01:39 Hey, Dave. Everything is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black
00:01:39 --> 00:01:45 Guide, DelawareBlack.com, black media expert and all-around good guy who doesn't
00:01:45 --> 00:01:48 mess up his lines because he's saying everything every time.
00:01:48 --> 00:01:52 Yeah, yeah. How goes it? Just call me snowman, man.
00:01:52 --> 00:01:57 That's all you got to do is just call me snowman. Hold on. So were you shoveling any snow? No, no.
00:01:57 --> 00:02:01 If you weren't out playing in the snow, we can't call you snowman.
00:02:01 --> 00:02:04 Well, that wasn't snow. That was more like ice out there, man.
00:02:06 --> 00:02:13 I guess we got a lot of rain mixed with snow when the snow came because that
00:02:13 --> 00:02:15 stuff was hard. That wasn't the snow.
00:02:17 --> 00:02:20 And it ain't getting warm anytime soon.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:25 So we're going to be seeing snow for a little bit. And then they're talking
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 about more next weekend, too. Oh, I saw that.
00:02:28 --> 00:02:32 Yeah, so what I said last week was that it holds true.
00:02:33 --> 00:02:42 The sixes seem to be the years of the snow, 96, 06, 2016, and now 2026.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:45 Every 10 years, we get a good snow.
00:02:46 --> 00:02:51 Yeah, so blame it on you for reminding us about the quadruple sixes.
00:02:51 --> 00:02:53 I know. There you go. There you go.
00:02:54 --> 00:02:56 But hopefully everybody's safe.
00:02:56 --> 00:03:00 And I did see a few accidents this morning already on my way into work.
00:03:01 --> 00:03:04 I was so mad. We were off yesterday. The state was off yesterday.
00:03:04 --> 00:03:07 But then they told us, oh, you guys can come in at 8 o'clock today.
00:03:07 --> 00:03:09 You know, all of us were upset, man.
00:03:11 --> 00:03:19 I'm sure. Yeah. But we just hope that everybody is handling the weather okay.
00:03:19 --> 00:03:20 I know a lot of people were snowed in.
00:03:20 --> 00:03:21 I know there were a couple of
00:03:21 --> 00:03:25 people in my office couldn't even get out of their parking spaces. so...
00:03:25 --> 00:03:30 So that's not good. They said they got, you know, the plows came down the street
00:03:30 --> 00:03:33 and this plowed them in and they couldn't get out.
00:03:35 --> 00:03:38 So we'll see. Hopefully we'll see those people tomorrow. So,
00:03:38 --> 00:03:43 but we're going to go ahead and jump into our show.
00:03:44 --> 00:03:47 You know, we got a few things that we want to talk about, you know,
00:03:47 --> 00:03:50 so I just want to make sure we get this information out to you.
00:03:51 --> 00:03:54 Did you hear about Kanye West's apology?
00:03:54 --> 00:03:59 So I heard the rough version and I just say, you know, I probably heard just
00:03:59 --> 00:04:01 a straight fact of it I did not read,
00:04:01 --> 00:04:06 you know, or hear anyone talk about I just heard the general some summation
00:04:06 --> 00:04:11 of it Okay, well We're going to I'm gonna I'm gonna give you the whole thing
00:04:11 --> 00:04:15 tonight For those who may not know about it.
00:04:15 --> 00:04:21 Kanye West took out a full-page ad In the New York Post and it also was in the
00:04:21 --> 00:04:25 Washington Post and a couple other newspapers and online or whatever,
00:04:25 --> 00:04:32 where he actually put what felt like or reads like a very sincere apology for
00:04:32 --> 00:04:35 everything that's been going on with him.
00:04:36 --> 00:04:40 So I'm going to read the apology so you guys can hear what he had to say.
00:04:40 --> 00:04:45 And then, Leonard, you tell me if it feels sincere or not. Okay? All right?
00:04:46 --> 00:04:48 It says, To those I've heard.
00:04:49 --> 00:04:55 25 years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to
00:04:55 --> 00:04:58 the right frontal lobe of my brain.
00:04:58 --> 00:05:02 At the time, the focus was on the visible damage, the fracture,
00:05:03 --> 00:05:05 the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma.
00:05:05 --> 00:05:12 The deeper the injury, the one side, I'm sorry, let me read that again.
00:05:12 --> 00:05:18 The deeper injury, the one inside of my skull went unnoticed.
00:05:19 --> 00:05:24 Comprehension scans were not done, neurological exams were limited,
00:05:24 --> 00:05:28 and the possibility of a frontal lobe injury was never raised.
00:05:28 --> 00:05:32 It wasn't properly diagnosed until 2023.
00:05:33 --> 00:05:38 That medical oversight caused serious damage to my mental health and led to
00:05:38 --> 00:05:42 my bipolar type 1 diagnosis.
00:05:43 --> 00:05:49 Bipolar disorder comes with its own defense system, which is called denial.
00:05:50 --> 00:05:54 When you're manic, you don't think you're sick.
00:05:54 --> 00:06:00 You think everyone else is overreacting. You feel like you're seeing the world
00:06:00 --> 00:06:05 more clearly than ever, when in reality you're losing your grip entirely.
00:06:06 --> 00:06:12 Once people label you as crazy, you feel as if you cannot contribute anything
00:06:12 --> 00:06:14 meaningful to the world.
00:06:15 --> 00:06:18 It's easy for people to joke and laugh at all when, in fact,
00:06:19 --> 00:06:24 this is a very serious, debilitating disease you can die from.
00:06:24 --> 00:06:29 According to the World Health Organization and Cambridge University,
00:06:30 --> 00:06:38 people with bipolar disorder have a life expectancy that is shortened by 10 to 15 years on average.
00:06:39 --> 00:06:50 And two times to three times higher all cause mortality rate than the general population.
00:06:50 --> 00:06:55 This is on par with severe heart disease, type 1 diabetes, and.
00:06:56 --> 00:07:03 HIV and cancer, all lethal and fatal at if left untreated.
00:07:03 --> 00:07:09 The scariest thing about this disorder is how persuasive it is when it tells
00:07:09 --> 00:07:11 you. You don't need help.
00:07:11 --> 00:07:16 It makes you blind, but convinces you you have insight.
00:07:17 --> 00:07:20 You feel powerful, certain, unstoppable.
00:07:21 --> 00:07:25 I lost touch with reality. Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:28 I said and did some things I deeply regret.
00:07:29 --> 00:07:32 Some of the people I loved the most, I treated the worst.
00:07:33 --> 00:07:42 You endure fear, confusion, humiliation, the exhaustion of trying to have someone
00:07:42 --> 00:07:45 who was at times unrecognizable.
00:07:46 --> 00:07:48 Looking back, sometimes.
00:07:50 --> 00:07:55 I became detached from my true self in that fractured state.
00:07:55 --> 00:07:59 I gravitated towards the most destructive symbol I could find,
00:07:59 --> 00:08:03 the swastika, and even sold t-shirts bearing it.
00:08:03 --> 00:08:10 One of the difficult aspects of having bipolar type 1 are the disconnect moments,
00:08:10 --> 00:08:13 many of which I still cannot recall.
00:08:13 --> 00:08:19 That led to poor judgment and reckless behavior and oftentimes feels like an
00:08:19 --> 00:08:20 out-of-body experience.
00:08:21 --> 00:08:25 I regret and I am deeply mortified by my actions in this state,
00:08:26 --> 00:08:31 and I'm committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change.
00:08:31 --> 00:08:34 It does not excuse what I did, though.
00:08:34 --> 00:08:38 I am not a Nazi or an anti-Semitic.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:44 I love Jewish people. to the black community, which held me down through all
00:08:44 --> 00:08:47 the highs and lows in the darkest of times.
00:08:47 --> 00:08:52 The black community is unquestionably the foundation of who I am.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:55 I am so sorry to have let you down.
00:08:55 --> 00:09:05 I love us. In early 2025, I fell into a four-month-long manic episode of psychotic
00:09:05 --> 00:09:10 paranoia and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life.
00:09:10 --> 00:09:17 As the situation became increasingly unsustainable, there were times I didn't want to be here anymore.
00:09:17 --> 00:09:25 Having bipolar disorder is a notable state of constant mental illness.
00:09:25 --> 00:09:29 When you go into a manic episode, you are ill at that point.
00:09:29 --> 00:09:32 When you are not in an episode, you are completely normal.
00:09:33 --> 00:09:37 And that's when the wreckage from the illness hits the hardest.
00:09:37 --> 00:09:42 In rock bottom a few months ago, my wife encouraged me to finally get help.
00:09:42 --> 00:09:46 I have found comfort in Reddit forums of all places.
00:09:47 --> 00:09:52 Different people speak of being in a manic or depressive episode of similar nature.
00:09:53 --> 00:09:56 I read their stories and realized that I was not alone.
00:09:57 --> 00:10:04 It is not just me who ruins their entire life once a year despite taking meds
00:10:04 --> 00:10:11 every day and being told by the so-called best doctors in the world that I am not bipolar,
00:10:11 --> 00:10:14 but merely experiencing symptoms of autism.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:20 My words as a leader in the community have global impact and influence.
00:10:21 --> 00:10:24 In my mania, I lost complete sight of that.
00:10:25 --> 00:10:31 As I find my new baseline and new center through an effective regime of medication,
00:10:31 --> 00:10:36 therapy, exercise, and clean living, I have newfound, much-needed clarity.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:40 I am pouring my energy into positive, meaningful art, music,
00:10:41 --> 00:10:44 clothing, design, and other new ideals to help the world.
00:10:44 --> 00:10:48 I'm not asking for sympathy or a free pass.
00:10:48 --> 00:10:52 Though I aspire to earn your forgiveness,
00:10:53 --> 00:11:03 I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding as I find my way home with love. Yay.
00:11:05 --> 00:11:08 Now, he said a lot. Yeah, he did. Said a lot.
00:11:08 --> 00:11:15 And he kind of covered what we probably look at as probably the periods and
00:11:15 --> 00:11:22 some of the stuff that, you know, some of the craziness that we've seen from him over the years.
00:11:23 --> 00:11:28 What do you think about all he had to say and how sincere do you feel this is?
00:11:29 --> 00:11:34 So I think I think it's very sincere. You know, I mean, he said a lot of stuff
00:11:34 --> 00:11:37 that once he said it, you know, I was like, oh, yeah, you know,
00:11:37 --> 00:11:39 I kind of did forget he was in that real bad accident.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:44 And, you know, I'd never thought anything mental came from it.
00:11:44 --> 00:11:49 But, you know, I know his jaw was messed up. So I'm sure his head got banged, you know, all that.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:57 But I did stop and think of one thing that you read that I wanted to debate,
00:11:57 --> 00:12:01 but I didn't want to interrupt you, was when he said the swastika was most dangerous.
00:12:02 --> 00:12:06 How did I know you were going to come back to that? Yeah, he said the swastika,
00:12:06 --> 00:12:11 because in my mind, it made me think maybe that MAGA hat was the most dangerous
00:12:11 --> 00:12:15 thing that he was, you know, wearing and toting around.
00:12:15 --> 00:12:17 But, I mean, all in all, it sounds very sincere.
00:12:18 --> 00:12:24 I feel like from what you said, you said 2023 was when he came to some realizations.
00:12:25 --> 00:12:30 But, you know, Dave, we saw this earlier this year. It seemed like some manic moments.
00:12:30 --> 00:12:36 So, you know, I mean, kind of, you know, I think everyone knows that he needs help.
00:12:36 --> 00:12:40 And I think this was one of his more reasonable times.
00:12:41 --> 00:12:45 But, you know, you know how it goes, Dave. I feel like without constant help
00:12:45 --> 00:12:50 and those people in his corner, it's going to go from good Kanye to bad Kanye
00:12:50 --> 00:12:52 to good Kanye to bad Kanye.
00:12:52 --> 00:12:58 So I think this was a sincere moment, but I don't know if I believe he will
00:12:58 --> 00:13:01 be able to control himself in the future.
00:13:02 --> 00:13:07 All right. And yeah, I guess I tend to agree with you on everything you said.
00:13:08 --> 00:13:12 And now it's funny, he said a lot, but then I noticed some things he didn't say.
00:13:14 --> 00:13:23 So was the whole MAGA thing part of this quote unquote bipolar or manic episodes he was having?
00:13:23 --> 00:13:27 Or, you know, where he was just bucking against, you know,
00:13:28 --> 00:13:34 people and what people expected of him to do was, I mean, and you mentioned
00:13:34 --> 00:13:35 the swastika thing already,
00:13:36 --> 00:13:45 was his relationships and what he had his women doing and what led to breakups and so forth.
00:13:45 --> 00:13:48 I mean, you know, there was a period in time that him and his current wife were
00:13:48 --> 00:13:53 not together because of, you know, how he was acting and the things he was asking her to do.
00:13:54 --> 00:13:59 So was that also all about what he's saying this is?
00:13:59 --> 00:14:03 And what really led up to this? What made him come out now and talk about this?
00:14:04 --> 00:14:10 You know, and it's scary because when you think about the most genius people
00:14:10 --> 00:14:14 we've had in music, especially, I'm going to go music because we had them in
00:14:14 --> 00:14:19 other parts of the arts, but music especially, when you think about Prince,
00:14:19 --> 00:14:22 when you think about Michael, When you think about,
00:14:22 --> 00:14:27 And you know I'll say his name Because he is a musical genius R. Kelly.
00:14:28 --> 00:14:34 When you think about a guy like Sean Combs, who didn't, you know,
00:14:34 --> 00:14:40 didn't deal so much in, well, no, no, I can't say that, because he was doing the drugs too.
00:14:40 --> 00:14:47 So when you think about all these guys who have these, who was on top of the
00:14:47 --> 00:14:54 world and have all these things going for you, and Kanye definitely is a genius.
00:14:54 --> 00:15:02 I mean, his music, his early stuff up to a certain point, they were hip-boppers, man.
00:15:03 --> 00:15:08 You know, especially his early stuff. His early stuff was really on point.
00:15:08 --> 00:15:13 And then you think about the stuff he wrote with Jay-Z and wrote for Jay-Z and
00:15:13 --> 00:15:15 some of the other people he wrote for.
00:15:15 --> 00:15:19 This man definitely has a gift.
00:15:20 --> 00:15:22 But, you know, hopefully he
00:15:22 --> 00:15:29 hasn't lost too much to be able to build it back up again You follow me?
00:15:30 --> 00:15:35 Yeah, I get it Okay, so, I mean, I just thought it was interesting that the
00:15:35 --> 00:15:40 timing of this letter And the fact that he decided to put this out now,
00:15:41 --> 00:15:46 I don't know what the base of this is for this,
00:15:47 --> 00:15:54 excuse me but I think it's gonna come out soon I think there's gonna be more follow up to this,
00:15:55 --> 00:16:00 and I hope he is healthy cause maybe he'll get back to being who he was right
00:16:00 --> 00:16:03 or being a better version of who he's been you know what I mean.
00:16:05 --> 00:16:08 Yeah. So, but I just wanted to get that out there.
00:16:08 --> 00:16:11 When I read the letter, I thought it was profound and I thought it was,
00:16:11 --> 00:16:15 it covered a lot of ground and it kind of gave us some insight to some things
00:16:15 --> 00:16:18 that we kind of saw unfold in front of us.
00:16:18 --> 00:16:24 So I just felt it was important to, to read this for those people that hadn't heard this yet.
00:16:25 --> 00:16:31 So you guys give us your thoughts and your feedback on that when you get a chance
00:16:31 --> 00:16:37 to look at it and yourselves and read it yourselves and give us your thoughts on what you read.
00:16:38 --> 00:16:43 Okay, I'm going to move on to our next story and this is more of a feel good
00:16:43 --> 00:16:49 moment because I'm a fan of this particular person and you know,
00:16:49 --> 00:16:53 I've watched quite a few movies with him in it and a couple of my favorite movies.
00:16:53 --> 00:16:55 He's in a couple of my favorite movies.
00:16:56 --> 00:16:59 No, he's not in Imitation of Life, so don't bring it up.
00:17:00 --> 00:17:05 Are you sure, Dave? Yeah, he's not in. He might be in a remake,
00:17:05 --> 00:17:07 though, if they make a remake. But he's not in this one. Okay.
00:17:08 --> 00:17:14 But Delroy Lindo finally gets his Oscar flowers, and his son was the first to tell him.
00:17:15 --> 00:17:19 So for those who have been sitting on a rock or don't know,
00:17:19 --> 00:17:28 the Oscar nominations have come out recently, and Sinners was nominated for 16 awards,
00:17:28 --> 00:17:35 which set a record that no other movie has ever been nominated for that many awards.
00:17:35 --> 00:17:42 So that tells you how great of a film this was and how meaningful of a film this was.
00:17:43 --> 00:17:48 You know, and congratulations to Ryan Coogler for.
00:17:49 --> 00:17:52 And of course he was nominated for screenplay and director
00:17:52 --> 00:17:55 and so forth but you know but
00:17:55 --> 00:17:59 really happy for delroy lindo who's been out
00:17:59 --> 00:18:01 there for a long time as an actor
00:18:01 --> 00:18:08 and has done a lot of movies and always played a great part in the movie and
00:18:08 --> 00:18:14 he finally got nominated for an oscar this is his first nomination so listen
00:18:14 --> 00:18:19 to this so delroy lindo is finally getting his flowers after decades in the
00:18:19 --> 00:18:20 entertainment industry.
00:18:20 --> 00:18:26 Last week, the 73-year-old actor received his first Academy Award nomination
00:18:26 --> 00:18:32 for his role as Delta Slim in Ryan Coogler's blockbuster film, Sinners.
00:18:33 --> 00:18:39 As if receiving the nominations for such a culturally poignant film,
00:18:39 --> 00:18:41 created and led by Black.
00:18:42 --> 00:18:49 Excuse me, by a black director and predominantly black cast and crew wasn't
00:18:49 --> 00:18:52 sweet enough, Lindo revealed that his son,
00:18:52 --> 00:19:00 Damari Lindo, was the first to break the special news.
00:19:00 --> 00:19:05 He said, I was in bed. He recounted to E! News. My phone rang.
00:19:05 --> 00:19:12 It was my son. And I picked it up and said, hey, man. And he said, dad, dad, you got it.
00:19:12 --> 00:19:15 He got that sugar honey iced tea.
00:19:18 --> 00:19:21 It means the world because he's seen it all.
00:19:22 --> 00:19:26 He's seen it away from the rear carpet. He's seen both sides of it.
00:19:26 --> 00:19:33 So along with my wife, they have the internal and external perspective on his journey.
00:19:33 --> 00:19:38 It felt completely right on to receive the news from his son.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:46 Linda's nomination is the only one of the record-breaking 16 nominations the
00:19:46 --> 00:19:49 vampire horror film acquired this year.
00:19:50 --> 00:19:54 Starring Michael B. Jordan, Wami Masaku.
00:19:56 --> 00:20:02 Haley Steinfeld, and the breakout star of Miles Cadence, sinners left a permanent
00:20:02 --> 00:20:09 mark on viewers with this fusion of horror, cultural, folklore, religion, and music.
00:20:09 --> 00:20:14 It's extraordinary that the audiences have embraced it and embraced this vision,
00:20:14 --> 00:20:17 Lyndall told ABC. Let me see.
00:20:17 --> 00:20:25 Also, there were a number of people, including Jordan and Lindo and Saku and Peyton.
00:20:25 --> 00:20:29 They all were nominated for acting awards.
00:20:29 --> 00:20:35 And then in addition, legendary costume designer Ruth Carter became the most
00:20:35 --> 00:20:42 nominated black woman in Oscar history with the fifth Academy Award nomination for Sinners.
00:20:43 --> 00:20:47 Now you won't be saying Oscar's so white this year I'm going to tell you that
00:20:47 --> 00:20:53 for sure we got to see what these winners are going to happen but we going to
00:20:53 --> 00:20:55 be in the house though we going to be in the house that night.
00:20:56 --> 00:20:59 We always in the house we going to be in the front of the house or the back
00:20:59 --> 00:21:03 of the house we going to be sitting in tears all night,
00:21:04 --> 00:21:08 instead of anybody getting I'm sure there's going to be somebody.
00:21:10 --> 00:21:18 We should make a prediction I think four or five people maybe make it to the stage that night.
00:21:18 --> 00:21:20 Hold on. So when is the Oscars?
00:21:22 --> 00:21:25 The Oscars usually is in February or March.
00:21:26 --> 00:21:30 I don't have the date here. Can you look it up real quick? Yeah, let me look it up.
00:21:33 --> 00:21:37 March 15th. Yeah, February or March, like I said.
00:21:38 --> 00:21:41 So I'm predicting right now.
00:21:44 --> 00:21:49 At least four people from that film will get Oscars.
00:21:49 --> 00:21:56 Okay. Four different people or collectively? Four different people. I'm saying...
00:21:57 --> 00:22:00 So you're thinking like Ryan Coogler, Michael B.
00:22:00 --> 00:22:06 Jordan? And then, oh, the guy who, the guitar player.
00:22:06 --> 00:22:08 Yeah, that's Kate.
00:22:08 --> 00:22:10 Yeah, Kayton, because he won something earlier. Yeah.
00:22:11 --> 00:22:14 And then maybe Delroy. Maybe Delroy.
00:22:14 --> 00:22:19 Now, they like Hailey Stanfield, too. So she could be another one.
00:22:19 --> 00:22:23 But she's not, you know, she's not one of us.
00:22:23 --> 00:22:26 I'm talking about one of us, though. Well, Dave, in the movie,
00:22:27 --> 00:22:28 she was one of us, wasn't it?
00:22:28 --> 00:22:33 Yeah, she was Mick. Yeah, I'm just joking. And, you know, just a fun fact.
00:22:33 --> 00:22:39 I don't know if you know, but both of Stack, what was his brother's name, Stack?
00:22:39 --> 00:22:44 Stack and, wow. Yeah.
00:22:45 --> 00:22:50 Okay. Well, anyway, you know, both of the ladies are pregnant right now.
00:22:51 --> 00:22:54 They both got pregnant at the same time. Oh, really? Yeah.
00:22:55 --> 00:22:58 Both the girls that the brothers were messing with? Yeah. Yeah. Yep.
00:22:59 --> 00:23:03 Wilmu Moussaku and Hayley Seinfeld both revealed... Oh, yeah.
00:23:03 --> 00:23:05 I know what Hayley is. Yeah, Hayley is. Yep.
00:23:06 --> 00:23:08 Around the time of the Golden Globes.
00:23:08 --> 00:23:12 Yeah, because Hayley's married to a celebrity. I'm trying to remember who she's
00:23:12 --> 00:23:15 married to. She's married to somebody famous. Gotcha.
00:23:16 --> 00:23:17 I'm trying to remember who she's married to.
00:23:19 --> 00:23:23 Look that up right quick. Now it's going to drive me crazy. Who's telling Seinfeld
00:23:23 --> 00:23:25 married to this? Is it an athlete?
00:23:26 --> 00:23:28 You see it? What's coming up?
00:23:29 --> 00:23:32 Yeah, Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen. Yeah.
00:23:33 --> 00:23:36 Oh, yeah. How could I forget that? Yeah.
00:23:37 --> 00:23:41 Yeah. Yeah, that's right. She is pregnant. Yeah. So, yeah. Well,
00:23:42 --> 00:23:44 so are you making a prediction? How many people you think?
00:23:45 --> 00:23:49 So I'm not going to make any predictions. I'm just going to sit and, you know, watch it.
00:23:49 --> 00:23:54 Watch it prediction-free. Oh, my God. That's what you do, man.
00:23:54 --> 00:23:57 That's what you do. You bait and switch all the time, right? No, no, no.
00:23:57 --> 00:24:00 Nobody's baiting. But, you know, also, I don't want to jinx anything,
00:24:00 --> 00:24:03 too. You know, like, I just want to let everything work as it works.
00:24:04 --> 00:24:08 You think you got to do an Oscar party this year? Who is we?
00:24:10 --> 00:24:15 You used to always be a part of one all the time. No, no. That was Portia.
00:24:15 --> 00:24:16 Portia would do her Oscar party. I know.
00:24:16 --> 00:24:18 I know. I know. But I said a part of one.
00:24:19 --> 00:24:23 No, probably not. You don't think she would do one this year?
00:24:23 --> 00:24:27 I don't know. She hasn't talked about one this year, so we'll see.
00:24:28 --> 00:24:30 Okay. Well, this will be the year to do it, I guess.
00:24:31 --> 00:24:36 Okay. Well, I mean, do you have a favorite Delroy Lindo movie?
00:24:37 --> 00:24:44 Not necessarily. Maybe. I have two. Well, three. Wasn't he in life? Was he in life or no?
00:24:46 --> 00:24:54 Was he in life? Huh. Yeah, so many people in life. Was he in life? No, he wasn't in life.
00:24:55 --> 00:25:00 I'm looking at his, this guy. He's been in a lot of movies. Yeah.
00:25:00 --> 00:25:03 Well, you know, he started out acting with Denzel.
00:25:04 --> 00:25:08 Yeah. Yeah. Him and Denzel used to be in the same acting classes.
00:25:08 --> 00:25:10 They used to be in the same theater classes.
00:25:10 --> 00:25:15 And Denzel gave him a lot of advice on how, you know, because he was a little
00:25:15 --> 00:25:17 bit older when he started.
00:25:20 --> 00:25:25 I'm looking at his movies, and I can obviously say I don't particularly see a favorite in here.
00:25:26 --> 00:25:31 Well, my favorite character outside of, I mean, he did a good job in this movie,
00:25:31 --> 00:25:35 but my favorite character that I ever saw him play, because I thought he killed
00:25:35 --> 00:25:38 the part was, what was it?
00:25:38 --> 00:25:42 West Indian, I forget his name on there.
00:25:42 --> 00:25:45 But remember, he was the guy that taught Malcolm X the number game.
00:25:46 --> 00:25:48 Remember the movie Malcolm X?
00:25:49 --> 00:25:53 You mean the movie 34 years ago? Okay.
00:25:54 --> 00:25:58 Oh, wow. Don't tell me. But you said you liked Malcolm X.
00:25:59 --> 00:26:02 Yeah, yeah, as a person, but I mean, I can't remember the last time I seen the movie.
00:26:03 --> 00:26:06 Oh, my God. Let him, let him, let him. Okay.
00:26:06 --> 00:26:13 Anyway, he played a very pivotal role in the movie in teaching Malcolm X the
00:26:13 --> 00:26:18 numbers game and so forth when Malcolm started becoming the man.
00:26:19 --> 00:26:22 But he played the hell out of that role, though.
00:26:23 --> 00:26:28 And then always remember him in Romeo Must Die with Aaliyah.
00:26:28 --> 00:26:35 Okay. And because he played her father in that. Gotcha. Yeah. So, but great actor.
00:26:36 --> 00:26:41 I'm glad that finally he's getting his flowers.
00:26:41 --> 00:26:46 And, you know, even if he doesn't win, just the fact that they finally are giving
00:26:46 --> 00:26:50 him an opportunity to win an Oscar.
00:26:50 --> 00:26:55 So I'm pretty sure if he wins, that crowd is going to go crazy for him.
00:26:56 --> 00:26:59 Oh, yeah, definitely. I'm sure. Yeah. So I'm pretty sure.
00:27:00 --> 00:27:02 All right moving on to our next story.
00:27:04 --> 00:27:12 Our buddy's back, Jasmine Crockett. You know, she's something, man.
00:27:12 --> 00:27:14 Jasmine Crockett tells Stephen A.
00:27:15 --> 00:27:18 Stephen A. just can't stay out of the headlines, man.
00:27:18 --> 00:27:21 To sit your A-S-S down.
00:27:22 --> 00:27:27 You know, for taking for Khan and Chief Donald Trump. Okay?
00:27:28 --> 00:27:32 He said, the U.S. Congresswoman and Texas Senate candidate They slammed the
00:27:32 --> 00:27:39 controversial sportscaster for the constant caping for the con-in-chief Donald Trump.
00:27:39 --> 00:27:41 And that's what she called him. The con-in-chief.
00:27:42 --> 00:27:43 I like that, though, the con-in-chief.
00:27:44 --> 00:27:50 U.S. Congresswoman and Texas Senate candidate Jasmine Crockett isn't letting
00:27:50 --> 00:27:57 bygones be bygones quite yet when it comes to the sportscaster who turned occasional
00:27:57 --> 00:28:00 political commentator Stephen A.
00:28:00 --> 00:28:06 Smith. During a recent podcast interview at our table with Jamie Harrison,
00:28:07 --> 00:28:10 Crockett handed the Outspoken Media Personality.
00:28:11 --> 00:28:19 The Sit Your A Down Award for his past criticisms of her and his most recent
00:28:19 --> 00:28:26 comments justifying the fatal ice shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis.
00:28:26 --> 00:28:33 The award given out at the end of every episode of our At Our Table podcast
00:28:33 --> 00:28:38 by the show's guests is reserved for someone in need of taking several seats,
00:28:38 --> 00:28:41 sort of like the donkey of the day type thing.
00:28:41 --> 00:28:44 That, you know, the Breakfast Club do.
00:28:44 --> 00:28:49 Crockett says she could not think of no one better than Smith telling Harrison
00:28:49 --> 00:28:51 that he deserves an award.
00:28:52 --> 00:28:55 That sounds like a sassy man to me.
00:28:56 --> 00:29:02 I know I left the Y. She says sass, and then she said, I know I left the Y out,
00:29:02 --> 00:29:04 meaning that he's sassy.
00:29:04 --> 00:29:13 It seems like Stephen A. Smith using his initials to make up the part of the SASS as well.
00:29:14 --> 00:29:17 It just seems like it lines up.
00:29:17 --> 00:29:22 Smith has been in the headlines for months following a series of criticisms
00:29:22 --> 00:29:29 of Crockett and other Democrats for their posture against the president and his policies.
00:29:29 --> 00:29:36 More importantly, the ESPN anchor accused Crockett, a law student-educated civil
00:29:36 --> 00:29:40 rights attorney, of using rhetoric for the streets.
00:29:41 --> 00:29:47 Smith argued that Crockett's name calling up Trump was a disservice to her constituents.
00:29:48 --> 00:29:52 Stephen A., who says he is seriously considered a run for the president in 2028,
00:29:53 --> 00:29:58 eventually apologized to Crockett, but largely stood behind his criticisms.
00:29:58 --> 00:30:05 In explaining why she chose Smith for the award, the U.S. representative said,
00:30:06 --> 00:30:12 There's the parts about me, but he's constantly attacking Black women.
00:30:12 --> 00:30:18 I'm trying to figure out why Black women hurt you or what Black woman hurt you.
00:30:19 --> 00:30:21 But somebody hurt you, boo.
00:30:22 --> 00:30:28 You know, Crockett said she also took time or took issue with Smith's recent
00:30:28 --> 00:30:31 remarks justifying the ICE shooting of Renee Good,
00:30:32 --> 00:30:37 a 37-year-old legal observer who was shot multiple times,
00:30:37 --> 00:30:42 including in the face, as she attempted to drive away from ICE agents.
00:30:42 --> 00:30:48 The Trump administration has doubled down on the shooting, accusing Good of
00:30:48 --> 00:30:50 trying to run over the ICE agent who shot her.
00:30:51 --> 00:30:57 According to many arguing that the footage of the incident does not support a theory,
00:30:57 --> 00:31:03 Trump officials also moved to block the Minnesota state officials from conducting
00:31:03 --> 00:31:10 a joint investigation of the shooting, raising questions about the transparency and accountability.
00:31:10 --> 00:31:15 I saw the video on numerous occasions, and seeing what had transpired from a
00:31:15 --> 00:31:20 lawful perspective as it pertains to law enforcement officials,
00:31:21 --> 00:31:23 don't expect him to be prosecuted.
00:31:23 --> 00:31:28 It was completely justified, Smith said. He literally was like,
00:31:28 --> 00:31:31 I'm going to tell y'all the law. You got a law degree now?
00:31:32 --> 00:31:36 When did you get that law degree? I'm just trying to figure this out,
00:31:36 --> 00:31:44 said Crockett. It's Lance Smith for the constant caping, for the con in chief, she added.
00:31:44 --> 00:31:49 He's doing a straight disservice to everyone that listens to him. Wow.
00:31:51 --> 00:31:55 So Stephen A. has been running this mouth. He's been on our,
00:31:55 --> 00:31:58 we've talked about him how many times now in the last couple months?
00:31:58 --> 00:32:05 Many. Many. Okay. And how many of those have involved black women?
00:32:05 --> 00:32:07 At least half. Yeah.
00:32:09 --> 00:32:13 It's not looking good. And especially this particular Black woman,
00:32:13 --> 00:32:15 you don't want to, why would you mess with her?
00:32:16 --> 00:32:18 I wouldn't want to mess with her.
00:32:19 --> 00:32:23 You know, and she ain't going to let you mess with her. She's going to definitely get at you, you know.
00:32:23 --> 00:32:31 So the fact that he's doing all of this, he needs to check his sources.
00:32:31 --> 00:32:35 He needs to make sure that he understands who he's dealing with.
00:32:36 --> 00:32:40 What's your feelings on all of this? Yeah, I mean, I think Stephen A.
00:32:40 --> 00:32:43 Smith is just an antagonizer.
00:32:43 --> 00:32:48 And I think he—so you said why would he pick Jasmine Crockett?
00:32:48 --> 00:32:53 But at the same point, if he picks her, he knows he's going to get a response
00:32:53 --> 00:32:57 and he knows that's going to, you know, do you know how they say bad press is better than no press?
00:32:58 --> 00:33:01 Well, you're going to get clicks. You're going to get, you know,
00:33:01 --> 00:33:03 he's going to get attention. He's going to be talked about.
00:33:04 --> 00:33:07 You know, because we, you know, you and I always talk about a certain person
00:33:07 --> 00:33:10 all the time that does the same thing locally. You know what I mean?
00:33:12 --> 00:33:17 Right. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah.
00:33:18 --> 00:33:25 You're in a position to help somebody like her to reach her goal of becoming
00:33:25 --> 00:33:28 state senator, right? I mean, become a senator.
00:33:29 --> 00:33:31 Why not join her team?
00:33:31 --> 00:33:39 Why not help her? Why talk against her? What is the issue?
00:33:39 --> 00:33:45 Why don't you want to see her win, but you'd rather be on the side of the other people?
00:33:46 --> 00:33:52 Or as she put it, the kind and T. Because he has been talking like he's a MAGA person.
00:33:53 --> 00:33:59 Even though he says he's independent, you know. That's what he keeps saying, he's independent.
00:34:02 --> 00:34:06 Bernie Sanders is independent, right? You don't hear him talking that way,
00:34:06 --> 00:34:09 do you? No, not at all. Not at all.
00:34:11 --> 00:34:14 So I just think that Steven needs to get himself together.
00:34:14 --> 00:34:19 I know, you know, he out there making all the big bucks and whatever, but, uh,
00:34:19 --> 00:34:23 if he wants people to keep supporting his shows and supporting,
00:34:23 --> 00:34:29 you know, supporting him, you know, he may want to figure out, figure out, you know,
00:34:29 --> 00:34:33 his, his battles a little bit better, you know, and stop picking at the people
00:34:33 --> 00:34:38 that have been watching him all these years or supporting him all these years, you know?
00:34:39 --> 00:34:42 So that's my thoughts on it. You got any final thoughts on it?
00:34:42 --> 00:34:46 No, I mean, I think Stephen A. Smith, he does what he does.
00:34:46 --> 00:34:50 And like we talked about Kanye, I believe he's going to keep on doing it.
00:34:51 --> 00:34:53 And that's just going to be what it is.
00:34:55 --> 00:34:59 All right. Well, we'll see how that works on.
00:35:00 --> 00:35:03 We'll see how that works for him. So, all right.
00:35:05 --> 00:35:07 Well, we are coming to the end of the show.
00:35:08 --> 00:35:13 I know it's a quick show tonight, but, you know, we just wanted to give you
00:35:13 --> 00:35:15 guys a chance to go out there and do some more show.
00:35:15 --> 00:35:23 But anyway, we're here at Dave's Corner, Leonard's favorite part of the show.
00:35:23 --> 00:35:27 And since we're talking some politics, I figured I'd ask this question to my
00:35:27 --> 00:35:30 partner today and to you guys as well.
00:35:30 --> 00:35:38 If you could build the perfect president like a Build-A-Bear using three well-known
00:35:38 --> 00:35:45 figures or celebrities, what features from these three people would you use?
00:35:46 --> 00:35:51 Who would they be and why? So if I had to pick three people,
00:35:51 --> 00:35:56 I would pick the California Governor Gavin Newsom.
00:35:57 --> 00:36:01 And I say that because, you know, he don't back down.
00:36:01 --> 00:36:05 And, you know, he kind of plays whatever game people play.
00:36:06 --> 00:36:10 So I do like that. I would probably also pick.
00:36:11 --> 00:36:16 I'm going to go ahead and pick Kamala because, you know, I feel like she was very educated.
00:36:16 --> 00:36:19 She didn't get the chance that a lot of us wanted her to have,
00:36:19 --> 00:36:24 but, you know, she probably would have been one of the most educated presidents
00:36:24 --> 00:36:30 in at least recent times to be in that office, you know, education and experience.
00:36:31 --> 00:36:36 And then the last person I'm going to pick is the Baltimore mayor,
00:36:36 --> 00:36:41 Brandon Scott, because he is like turned Baltimore around there.
00:36:42 --> 00:36:45 Violence is down. Drugs is down.
00:36:46 --> 00:36:52 Community morale is up. And I mean, and, you know, he's the youngest mayor ever.
00:36:52 --> 00:36:55 I forget how old he is. I think he's less than 30 years old.
00:36:56 --> 00:37:00 But he's very connected to the community. You know, he's out in the community.
00:37:01 --> 00:37:04 And I feel like somebody like that who can relate to the common people would
00:37:04 --> 00:37:08 be someone who would be a great leader, just like he's doing in Baltimore right
00:37:08 --> 00:37:10 now. So those would be my three.
00:37:11 --> 00:37:19 Okay. All right. Yeah, that's pretty interesting. I like your choices though I do if I had to do it,
00:37:20 --> 00:37:26 I would start with President Obama. I knew you were going to say it,
00:37:26 --> 00:37:29 so I was like, you know, let me skip by Obama because I already know Dave,
00:37:29 --> 00:37:33 you know, predictable. I knew you were going to say Obama, so I just left it off.
00:37:34 --> 00:37:37 I would say him for his swag.
00:37:37 --> 00:37:41 You know what I mean? You know, he's just the coolest, you know,
00:37:42 --> 00:37:47 and plus he knows how to talk to people. He knows how to handle people,
00:37:47 --> 00:37:48 you know, that type of thing.
00:37:50 --> 00:37:55 I would also take his wife Dave, well honey she's married, what you talking about?
00:37:56 --> 00:38:00 No, no, anyway I would also pick his wife Okay, okay,
00:38:01 --> 00:38:04 For her smarts and her
00:38:04 --> 00:38:10 brains and her organization organizational skills because she knows how to get
00:38:10 --> 00:38:15 things together get people involved and get people active I think she would
00:38:15 --> 00:38:22 be a person who can get the country to buy into a lot of the stuff that she would want to do.
00:38:22 --> 00:38:28 And also, I think her, you know, having her and a combination of the two of
00:38:28 --> 00:38:33 them together would definitely help with her relations overseas and everything,
00:38:34 --> 00:38:36 you know, if they were involved.
00:38:36 --> 00:38:42 The third person, I was sitting here thinking, the third person...
00:38:45 --> 00:38:51 It would probably be, I'm going to say, I want to flip it a little bit.
00:38:51 --> 00:38:52 I want to flip it a little bit.
00:38:52 --> 00:38:57 Thinking about, I kind of like the Minneapolis governor.
00:38:58 --> 00:39:01 Is it the governor or the mayor? Jacob Frey.
00:39:02 --> 00:39:07 Yeah, yeah. I like how he's been handling things up there, you know,
00:39:07 --> 00:39:12 and how he's going against the good old boys and everything.
00:39:12 --> 00:39:16 I mean, I know he had a meeting with him recently. They kind of tamed him a
00:39:16 --> 00:39:17 little bit, a little bit.
00:39:18 --> 00:39:24 But I like that he just automatically just called him out right when the first
00:39:24 --> 00:39:26 shooting happened with Renee Good.
00:39:26 --> 00:39:29 How he just called him out and just called him what he said.
00:39:29 --> 00:39:31 He said, these guys are liars. Yeah.
00:39:32 --> 00:39:35 You know. And he said, get the F out.
00:39:35 --> 00:39:43 He told him, get out of his town, his city. and even with the situation with what's the guy's name?
00:39:44 --> 00:39:47 They just killed up there in Minneapolis. Yetter?
00:39:48 --> 00:39:52 Is it Yetter or? Something like that. Yeah, I want to say it right.
00:39:52 --> 00:39:54 I want to give him his proper respect.
00:39:55 --> 00:40:00 But even that situation, did you see that video, by the way? I did.
00:40:01 --> 00:40:08 Do you know they tried to make a big deal about him having a gun after they shot him.
00:40:09 --> 00:40:11 Correct. You know.
00:40:13 --> 00:40:19 Which, I don't know. You know, they have ICE here in Delaware now,
00:40:19 --> 00:40:25 and I'm, you know, this just makes you a little leery about going out here.
00:40:25 --> 00:40:32 You know, like, they just feel they have all this power, and they can do whatever they want to do.
00:40:34 --> 00:40:41 I don't know, but people just be careful, you know, when you're out there in them streets.
00:40:41 --> 00:40:45 And I mean, you know, especially right now, we got the snow,
00:40:45 --> 00:40:49 we got the, we got these people with ice and they ain't playing.
00:40:49 --> 00:40:51 So don't antagonize them.
00:40:51 --> 00:40:57 Please don't antagonize them. And if you, if you need to be where you need to
00:40:57 --> 00:40:59 be, be there. No, don't fool with them.
00:41:00 --> 00:41:05 All right. Well, anything you want to add before we jump off?
00:41:06 --> 00:41:10 No, I just know a day when I see you next, it's going to be we're going to be
00:41:10 --> 00:41:15 in the, as you say, the the shortest month of the year, which happened to be Black History Month.
00:41:17 --> 00:41:19 Yeah. Other than that, everything else is good.
00:41:20 --> 00:41:24 Yeah yeah well let's let's hope so let's
00:41:24 --> 00:41:27 hurry up and get through i mean we don't want to get through february
00:41:27 --> 00:41:30 that quickly because of you know black history month but right
00:41:30 --> 00:41:34 we want to get rid of winter time because winter winter looks
00:41:34 --> 00:41:37 like it wants to stay around for a while so oh well
00:41:37 --> 00:41:41 in a couple weeks we'll find out what the groundhog says yeah okay all right
00:41:41 --> 00:41:48 anyway folks that's everything that's what we got for you we are thankful for
