00:01:11 --> 00:01:14 that's what that's what it's that's what it's all about you know
00:01:14 --> 00:01:17 man it's kind of crazy because man this
00:01:17 --> 00:01:21 weather is really off the chain you know one day you come out of the short sleeves
00:01:21 --> 00:01:26 the next day you might know i know it's great i have a winter jacket or well
00:01:26 --> 00:01:31 you know it's funny like down uh southern delaware i think two days ago it rained
00:01:31 --> 00:01:37 for the first time in 45 days like when i talk about all our grass is dead it's dry and dusty,
00:01:38 --> 00:01:40 so you know we're definitely looking forward to that little
00:01:40 --> 00:01:43 bit of rain you got yeah no they and
00:01:43 --> 00:01:47 they said that rain that we got a couple days ago is just
00:01:47 --> 00:01:49 like half a percent or one percent of what's
00:01:49 --> 00:01:54 no wow you know yeah so i mean if even though it rained a lot because it rained
00:01:54 --> 00:01:58 a lot up here too but you're down there you're down there on the plantation
00:01:58 --> 00:02:05 man you know so you know darn darn and you know so that's what's going on everything
00:02:05 --> 00:02:08 else good with you yeah i mean Everything else is good. No complaints.
00:02:09 --> 00:02:12 My son's football team, they went undefeated for the season.
00:02:12 --> 00:02:15 So now they're going into the playoffs. They went undefeated against us.
00:02:15 --> 00:02:17 So they won undefeated last year too, right? Yep.
00:02:18 --> 00:02:23 And last year they won the state championship. So we'll see how they do this year.
00:02:23 --> 00:02:26 Okay. Okay. Two years in a row. Okay. All right.
00:02:27 --> 00:02:30 So, you know, Dave, let me tell you what I remember about the playoffs last
00:02:30 --> 00:02:32 year more than anything else.
00:02:33 --> 00:02:38 What's that? how cold it was on those Friday nights between like seven and 10 o'clock at night.
00:02:39 --> 00:02:42 I mean, freezing. So I'm definitely not looking forward to that.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:46 You know, you got to do what you got to do. Yeah. That weather,
00:02:46 --> 00:02:49 when that weather changed up on football season, it really changes.
00:02:49 --> 00:02:52 Oh yeah. Believe me, I know, I know all about it. Believe me.
00:02:53 --> 00:02:55 So, well, that's, that's good.
00:02:56 --> 00:02:58 Congratulations to that's Caravelle, right? Yep.
00:02:59 --> 00:03:02 Okay. All right. All right. Congratulations to them.
00:03:03 --> 00:03:07 All right. Well, I tell you, you know, we also got to say congratulations to
00:03:07 --> 00:03:10 our Eagles for beating up on those Cowboys too.
00:03:13 --> 00:03:22 Or I guess put the thumbs down on you Dave I figured they would she said loser.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:31 Yeah well anyway the Cowboys were losers that day but I ain't going to comment
00:03:31 --> 00:03:35 about that but you know we ain't just going to say fly eagles fly and we get
00:03:35 --> 00:03:40 ready to take down the commanders next so that's all I got to say So, all right.
00:03:41 --> 00:03:45 Well, speaking of guests, you know, we're going to just get right to this because
00:03:45 --> 00:03:48 they got a lot to say without saying anything in the background there.
00:03:49 --> 00:03:53 But why don't you tell us about who we have on today?
00:03:53 --> 00:03:57 Sure, Dave. So today our guest is Miss Ann Latrice.
00:03:57 --> 00:04:04 She is a multi-million business, a multi-million business manager by day, entertainer by night.
00:04:04 --> 00:04:11 She's award-winning vocalist and Latrice, and she started her career as a songwriter
00:04:11 --> 00:04:13 working for a production company in Philadelphia.
00:04:14 --> 00:04:18 She has always had a passion to sing, but never took it seriously.
00:04:18 --> 00:04:23 Now, in our mid-20s, she started going to local bars, participating in karaoke
00:04:23 --> 00:04:26 and winning numerous competitions.
00:04:26 --> 00:04:33 She began to make a name for herself, formerly Miss Ann, linked up with Tracy
00:04:33 --> 00:04:37 A, who told Daryl Howard about some hot new talent.
00:04:37 --> 00:04:42 She met with Daryl and then wife, Ja'Kyra, about joining their band,
00:04:43 --> 00:04:45 Best Kept Soul, and the rest is history.
00:04:46 --> 00:04:51 Ann Latrice had been the lead singer for Best Kept Soul going on 15 years.
00:04:51 --> 00:04:56 One of the hottest bands in the tri-state area, winning awards such as the Delaware
00:04:56 --> 00:05:00 Black Awards for Best Live Band and Best Vocalist.
00:05:01 --> 00:05:06 And she was recently named Delaware's Best or Best Kept Soul was recently named
00:05:06 --> 00:05:09 Delaware's Best Live Band.
00:05:09 --> 00:05:14 They have also shared the stage and been opening acts for performers such as
00:05:14 --> 00:05:20 Eric Roberson, Little Moe, Bow Wow, Drew Hill, Jaguar Wright,
00:05:20 --> 00:05:24 Kiki Wyatt, Carol Riddick, and Luke James, to name a few.
00:05:25 --> 00:05:28 Best Kept Soul has performed in the U.S. and abroad.
00:05:29 --> 00:05:34 Most Rican accolades have been performing on the 2024 Soul Train Cruise and
00:05:34 --> 00:05:37 making a return appearance for 2025.
00:05:38 --> 00:05:44 Ann Latrice is currently working on an original music that will debut in 2025.
00:05:45 --> 00:05:49 So without further ado, we'd like to welcome you to the show. Hello.
00:05:50 --> 00:05:56 The queen is here. Yes. Yes. She's in the building, y'all. She's in the building.
00:05:56 --> 00:06:00 Nice camera action. That's right. And I apologize.
00:06:00 --> 00:06:04 I made a mistake. And I think I said Miss Ann prior, but now I know it's Ann Latrice.
00:06:05 --> 00:06:08 It's okay. Yep. So we will make that correction.
00:06:08 --> 00:06:11 But so it's the same person, Leonard.
00:06:12 --> 00:06:16 It's really not. It's really not. Oh, Beyonce and Sasha Pierce.
00:06:17 --> 00:06:19 Yeah. You know, you have to evolve.
00:06:21 --> 00:06:26 Right. OK, you definitely have done that. So I guess to get started,
00:06:26 --> 00:06:29 you know, I know a lot of people will probably know you best from being the
00:06:29 --> 00:06:31 lead vocalist for Best Kept Soul.
00:06:31 --> 00:06:36 And, you know, I know that you said that you kind of ran into Tracy A.
00:06:37 --> 00:06:42 Now, when you ran into her, where exactly were you when I guess she spotted you?
00:06:43 --> 00:06:46 And, you know, how did that connection start out?
00:06:46 --> 00:06:52 Well, I guess I was going to different karaoke events hosted by DJ KG,
00:06:52 --> 00:06:56 who's been around for the longest time and shout out to him.
00:06:57 --> 00:07:03 But I met Kyra. I met Kyra at Shades of Blue along with Tracy A.
00:07:04 --> 00:07:09 And Tracy A back then, you know, Tracy A and A-Less was like a poppin' live band.
00:07:09 --> 00:07:12 I didn't know anything about live bands at that moment. but you
00:07:12 --> 00:07:16 know i i always enjoyed music so i would go check her band out and she would
00:07:16 --> 00:07:20 come to karaoke and she would hear me sing and she's like you need to do something
00:07:20 --> 00:07:24 with this like you know i mean not just karaoke and i'm just like i mean i don't
00:07:24 --> 00:07:31 know you know so i was at french quarter i'm naming a lot of places i'm not even around right i know.
00:07:35 --> 00:07:40 And that night they did a competition they had a female singer and a male singer winner,
00:07:40 --> 00:07:44 and that was the night I actually met City who we became you know singing partners
00:07:44 --> 00:07:49 um he won for the male and I won for the female and that was the night that
00:07:49 --> 00:07:51 I got introduced to Boogie Daryl Howard.
00:07:52 --> 00:07:55 And he was like I thought he was trying to hit on
00:07:55 --> 00:08:00 me at first you know I'm a best woman you know yeah but he
00:08:00 --> 00:08:02 was like no I'm this is legit like I have a band I'm like I
00:08:02 --> 00:08:05 don't know anything about live bands but you know I I'll try
00:08:05 --> 00:08:08 it out and I met with them at the rehearsal that Wednesday
00:08:08 --> 00:08:12 and Lamont's basement and now I'm
00:08:12 --> 00:08:15 here now when when you started out
00:08:15 --> 00:08:19 did you feel like was there a like a big
00:08:19 --> 00:08:21 transition from going to you know
00:08:21 --> 00:08:24 let's say doing karaoke to perform with
00:08:24 --> 00:08:27 the band like what was there ever a point when you're performing
00:08:27 --> 00:08:30 with the band where it's like oh man like I don't know if I could do it I'm
00:08:30 --> 00:08:33 used to doing my own thing well I will say
00:08:33 --> 00:08:36 in the beginning the crutch was see with
00:08:36 --> 00:08:39 karaoke you're performing to a track so you're familiar with
00:08:39 --> 00:08:42 the track right so with a live band they can.
00:08:42 --> 00:08:45 Do different variations of that
00:08:45 --> 00:08:48 track you know so i never
00:08:48 --> 00:08:51 get joe shields the drummer he was like you gotta come in on
00:08:51 --> 00:08:54 the one and i'm like what the hell is the one like
00:08:54 --> 00:08:57 they all sound the same to me i just ready to start
00:08:57 --> 00:09:00 the song like he's like teaching me about the timing of
00:09:00 --> 00:09:03 coming in on time for the song you know so that
00:09:03 --> 00:09:06 was like a big thing for me in the very beginning and also
00:09:06 --> 00:09:09 my first couple performances like I always knew
00:09:09 --> 00:09:14 I could sing but it's a difference between singing and entertaining right because
00:09:14 --> 00:09:18 nobody wants to see you just stand there look pretty and sing you know you got
00:09:18 --> 00:09:24 to keep me engaged so my first couple shows the mic stand was my crutch I would
00:09:24 --> 00:09:27 not move from in front of that thing I would stand And I would hold it so tight.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:32 And eventually I started, you know, warming up and coming into my own comfort
00:09:32 --> 00:09:33 zone when it came to the stage.
00:09:34 --> 00:09:36 So gotcha. It was definitely some adjusting.
00:09:37 --> 00:09:41 Yeah. And like take it back a little bit farther. You know, where where did
00:09:41 --> 00:09:43 that passion from singing come from?
00:09:44 --> 00:09:48 Well, I have a lot of singers in my family. My mother, she sang.
00:09:49 --> 00:09:52 She opened up for like James Ingram, Chaka Khan.
00:09:53 --> 00:09:58 She lived in Ohio at the time, in Akron. And then on my father's side,
00:09:58 --> 00:10:06 my grandmother, my dad, four of my aunts, they all are like church background and sing.
00:10:06 --> 00:10:11 And so I get it honestly I never had any like vocal training I did I was in
00:10:11 --> 00:10:14 chorus and stuff when I was growing up but as far as like a vocal coach like
00:10:14 --> 00:10:20 anything of that nature I never had any of that it was all by ear I don't read
00:10:20 --> 00:10:25 music but I can mimic and I can create from that so,
00:10:25 --> 00:10:30 that's just it's been a while my mom will say I was singing since I was probably two.
00:10:31 --> 00:10:34 Now does like I feel
00:10:34 --> 00:10:38 like I remember your family's always been very supportive of
00:10:38 --> 00:10:43 you know your singing when you look back now and you kind of look at let's say
00:10:43 --> 00:10:48 when you first started with best kept soul you know are are you kind of proud
00:10:48 --> 00:10:54 of the journey that you've come on oh man proud is an understatement I will
00:10:54 --> 00:10:58 say like I said in the very beginning, I have smaller kids.
00:10:58 --> 00:11:02 My children now are in their 20s. So you can imagine 15 years ago, they were a lot smaller.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:08 So it was like a lot of sacrifices, a lot of leaving them with my mom or whoever,
00:11:08 --> 00:11:11 just to go out and be seen and heard.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:17 I still work for McDonald's, but I was working for a different owner operator at the time.
00:11:17 --> 00:11:21 And I worked for him for like seven years and I never
00:11:21 --> 00:11:24 requested any days off anything and i mean
00:11:24 --> 00:11:27 you get two days off in a week what's hard with me saying i need these two days
00:11:27 --> 00:11:29 off right so it became an
00:11:29 --> 00:11:33 issue when the band started you know progressing a little more after
00:11:33 --> 00:11:36 about a year or so and so i go
00:11:36 --> 00:11:39 to work one morning and they sit me down there like yeah well
00:11:39 --> 00:11:42 we feel like you're going in a different direction than the company there's
00:11:42 --> 00:11:45 no way you can run a multi-million dollar business and
00:11:45 --> 00:11:48 have a singing career so i ultimately lost
00:11:48 --> 00:11:52 a job my first year with best kept sold okay so
00:11:52 --> 00:11:55 we talk about sacrifice right yeah at that
00:11:55 --> 00:11:59 point i could have said you know forget this i'm not i'm not doing this but
00:11:59 --> 00:12:05 it was that right there that made me want to prove a point sure and i actually
00:12:05 --> 00:12:10 got to prove that point a little later so it worked out so like now when we
00:12:10 --> 00:12:14 talk about sacrifice too you You know, I always think about and, you know,
00:12:14 --> 00:12:17 for any entrepreneur and basically you're you're like an entrepreneur,
00:12:17 --> 00:12:21 too, because you're probably always working, always trying to perfect your craft.
00:12:22 --> 00:12:25 What type of sacrifices have you had to make? And, you know,
00:12:25 --> 00:12:28 I think Dave and I, you know, we both have kids.
00:12:28 --> 00:12:31 And one of the things I always think about is when I felt like I was really
00:12:31 --> 00:12:36 trying to hustle, you know, I felt like, you know, my kids, not to say they
00:12:36 --> 00:12:40 suffered, but, you know, you, you kind of have to make choices and smart choices.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:44 And I know with Best Kept Soul, you know, a lot of your events are probably
00:12:44 --> 00:12:48 on the weekends, you're traveling, you know, how, how hard was it to kind of
00:12:48 --> 00:12:51 get adjusted to that, you know, entertainer schedule?
00:12:52 --> 00:12:55 It was, like I said, it was a little trying in the beginning.
00:12:55 --> 00:12:56 I'm a single mother, of course.
00:12:57 --> 00:13:03 So, you know, just making sure that I had the proper people in place to be there for my children.
00:13:03 --> 00:13:08 I shout out to my best friend, Paula, who was like the second mother to my kids.
00:13:08 --> 00:13:12 Like she was sacrificed and she would stay behind and make sure they were good.
00:13:12 --> 00:13:18 So the village really stepped up in my, you know, and it helped me out a lot.
00:13:18 --> 00:13:21 At one point in time, my children went and lived in Tennessee with my sister for like a year.
00:13:22 --> 00:13:27 So when I say my family really did what they said they were going to do,
00:13:27 --> 00:13:28 they did what they said they wanted to do.
00:13:29 --> 00:13:31 Gotcha. You know, and it's funny you say it because, you know,
00:13:31 --> 00:13:36 I remember we had Lamont on and he was on, I don't know, a couple months ago.
00:13:37 --> 00:13:40 Well, yeah, a couple. Yeah. So he was on a while ago.
00:13:41 --> 00:13:44 And, you know, one of my biggest questions, and I think it's a testament to
00:13:44 --> 00:13:48 y'all consistency, but in kind of like in your bio.
00:13:48 --> 00:13:51 So you've been the lead singer for 15 years for Best Kept Soul,
00:13:51 --> 00:13:52 which I'm like, damn, that's a long time.
00:13:53 --> 00:13:56 But, you know, on top of that, you know, like how do you.
00:13:57 --> 00:14:02 How do you stay on top for so long? Because, you know, like I always think about
00:14:02 --> 00:14:06 what Best Kept Soul came out 15 years ago. They were hot. People knew them and loved them.
00:14:06 --> 00:14:10 And like still to this day, you know, you say Best Kept Soul.
00:14:10 --> 00:14:15 Everyone knows who it is. You know, the events are still, you know,
00:14:15 --> 00:14:17 packed, you know, still popular.
00:14:17 --> 00:14:21 You know, how like how does I guess Best Kept Soul collectively,
00:14:22 --> 00:14:26 you know, I mean, to be honest, how do you all stay on top for 15 years?
00:14:26 --> 00:14:28 I ask that question often.
00:14:30 --> 00:14:35 It's like, they're not tired of us yet. Like, I'm tired of me. No, it's the people.
00:14:35 --> 00:14:40 Like, when I look at emails coming in and I see somebody saying,
00:14:40 --> 00:14:43 are you available May something of 2027?
00:14:43 --> 00:14:45 Like, you know what I mean? And we're in 2024.
00:14:46 --> 00:14:51 And I'm just like, the people see us being together that long.
00:14:51 --> 00:14:56 You know what I'm saying? and it's been the consistency of the people because
00:14:56 --> 00:15:01 I think we connect with our audience a lot and we're really relatable and that
00:15:01 --> 00:15:05 I think kind of sets us apart because as a band, we're a family.
00:15:05 --> 00:15:10 I always say we're family. We have our moments. We argue, we fuss, we fight.
00:15:10 --> 00:15:14 But at the end of the day, we come to the round table and we make it right.
00:15:14 --> 00:15:20 So I would say that makes us relatable to the people that we are hired by,
00:15:20 --> 00:15:21 that we are performing for.
00:15:22 --> 00:15:27 Anybody knows me i get on the mic i talk trash like you know i'm saying i'm
00:15:27 --> 00:15:32 practicing my comedy routine right now y'all don't be surprised if i use y'all
00:15:32 --> 00:15:40 a little bit but uh yeah hey hey hey um you use dave as much as you want go ahead use him up now.
00:15:41 --> 00:15:45 I know you talked about that you're currently working on some original music.
00:15:45 --> 00:15:46 Can you kind of tell us about that?
00:15:47 --> 00:15:53 Yeah, long time coming. Like I said in my bio, I started as a writer for a production company.
00:15:55 --> 00:15:58 And my passion for writing had went away for a little while.
00:15:58 --> 00:16:01 And I guess with doing a lot of performances and stuff, it's easier to learn
00:16:01 --> 00:16:04 somebody else's song and sing that and call it a day.
00:16:04 --> 00:16:11 But it comes a point in time where we're out here and we're glorifying everybody else's songs.
00:16:11 --> 00:16:14 You know right make it in our business to
00:16:14 --> 00:16:17 make these songs sound good in comparison to the artists
00:16:17 --> 00:16:19 but i got to the point where you
00:16:19 --> 00:16:22 know when i'm performing for people i want them to sing the lyrics
00:16:22 --> 00:16:26 to my songs you know i want to see them dancing
00:16:26 --> 00:16:29 and you know mouthing whatever i'm singing from my
00:16:29 --> 00:16:34 words so that's where the original stuff is coming into play right now we did
00:16:34 --> 00:16:38 release something a while ago one of my original tracks on my day on our little
00:16:38 --> 00:16:43 cd that we had and along with one of the ones lamont wrote called thrill me
00:16:43 --> 00:16:46 but right now it's just like,
00:16:47 --> 00:16:50 it's the the writing creativity is at
00:16:50 --> 00:16:56 full throttle so i have a keyboardist now that he he's making my melodies and
00:16:56 --> 00:17:02 stuff i have a song right now called mutual i have a song called uh lies like
00:17:02 --> 00:17:08 it's a lot of songs that i have already in my arsenal but i'm just ready to let it out All right.
00:17:08 --> 00:17:12 And then my last question, this is something I just always want to know personally.
00:17:13 --> 00:17:15 What is your wildest?
00:17:15 --> 00:17:20 Performance moments. So, you know, you're performing and you see something in
00:17:20 --> 00:17:23 the audience, you see something in the crowd and you'd be like, God damn.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:28 Or, you know, you know, just, just something that may not say throw you off
00:17:28 --> 00:17:31 your game, but just something you're like, man, did that just happen?
00:17:32 --> 00:17:38 Man, I have shades on when I'm on the stage for people because I never know,
00:17:38 --> 00:17:40 I never want people to know what I'm looking at directly.
00:17:40 --> 00:17:44 And you, you will be surprised at some of the things that you see.
00:17:44 --> 00:17:49 I won't say this was like doing a performance, but we performed one time in
00:17:49 --> 00:17:55 Westchester for a client and it was a man's birthday and he was a pastor.
00:17:55 --> 00:18:01 So we get done and we go on break and the wife gets up and she speaks so beautifully
00:18:01 --> 00:18:04 about her husband, you know, before they bring him up.
00:18:04 --> 00:18:07 So the husband gets up and he's like, well,
00:18:07 --> 00:18:10 where's the girl that was singing because i was ready to throw my drawers at
00:18:10 --> 00:18:18 her like excuse me sir like what that's what you thought of in that moment right
00:18:18 --> 00:18:20 right of all the things he could have said,
00:18:23 --> 00:18:28 he wanted to throw his drawers off stage he wanted to throw his rolls well well
00:18:28 --> 00:18:33 i mean it's probably better he said it than did it so you know you know that
00:18:33 --> 00:18:34 that might have been a little Oh,
00:18:35 --> 00:18:38 wait, how long, how long ago was this? How long ago was this?
00:18:38 --> 00:18:40 Man, this was years ago.
00:18:41 --> 00:18:45 Okay. I was gonna say, so this was, this was before our news and translator.
00:18:45 --> 00:18:48 We, he would have been one of our stories at one point. Right, right.
00:18:50 --> 00:18:52 He would have been like that pastor in New York,
00:18:53 --> 00:19:00 oh yeah yeah money from the lady yeah wow yeah oh that's that's a whole not
00:19:00 --> 00:19:06 or or the pastor we almost talked about last week that wanted to the milk thing oh jesus.
00:19:09 --> 00:19:14 So the pastors are making news now they're making
00:19:14 --> 00:19:17 a lot of news today's pastors ain't
00:19:17 --> 00:19:19 like yesterday's pastors no no they're not
00:19:19 --> 00:19:23 they they're well today's church ain't like yesterday's
00:19:23 --> 00:19:27 church so the pastor has to change too i know it's not
00:19:27 --> 00:19:30 it's a whole different world now man gospel music
00:19:30 --> 00:19:33 gospel music is not you know
00:19:33 --> 00:19:36 when they took i told linda this before when they
00:19:36 --> 00:19:39 took the sesame street song and made
00:19:39 --> 00:19:42 it into a song called victory can
00:19:42 --> 00:19:46 you show me how to get the victory i was like what did they
00:19:46 --> 00:19:49 just take the sesame street song and change it into a gospel song
00:19:49 --> 00:19:55 that's when you know that things are different these days because we're in a
00:19:55 --> 00:19:59 different world right now we definitely are so yeah it makes you question who
00:19:59 --> 00:20:03 are they really trying to appeal to like i know to get the centers and stuff
00:20:03 --> 00:20:08 but y'all stretching it yeah yeah definitely they're trying and get the money.
00:20:09 --> 00:20:14 The money. Now, hold on, but we're not talking about Deacon Dave because,
00:20:14 --> 00:20:17 you know, Deacon Dave is good. Yeah, yeah.
00:20:17 --> 00:20:20 Well, no, I mean, Dave, you're a deacon at the church, so, I mean,
00:20:20 --> 00:20:23 we're not talking about you, but, you know.
00:20:23 --> 00:20:26 Yes, we are. Yes, we are.
00:20:28 --> 00:20:32 Anyway, that's my partner always, I do so shade at me all the time,
00:20:32 --> 00:20:34 but that's a whole other story right there.
00:20:35 --> 00:20:38 But anyway, anyway, are you finished sir
00:20:38 --> 00:20:41 uh yes that was my last one
00:20:41 --> 00:20:45 more question okay all right well
00:20:45 --> 00:20:49 since we're on the subject of church and everything um let's go back let's go
00:20:49 --> 00:20:55 back to you know your roots because i know you got church roots and of course
00:20:55 --> 00:21:01 i know you know you talked about your family and you talked about your your you know having.
00:21:02 --> 00:21:08 Well singing was definitely a part of your roots and because of your family i know your mother,
00:21:08 --> 00:21:11 sang and but then you know you have
00:21:11 --> 00:21:14 that other side of the family that also think because i know a few
00:21:14 --> 00:21:17 of them by the way so you know i know a few of them and
00:21:17 --> 00:21:21 so is church still a base
00:21:21 --> 00:21:24 for you when it comes to singing is that still something
00:21:24 --> 00:21:26 that you love to do because i know you and i did that
00:21:26 --> 00:21:29 show once before where you came and did
00:21:29 --> 00:21:32 a gospel show and you killed it I ain't
00:21:32 --> 00:21:35 gonna lie you really did you killed it during that show is that
00:21:35 --> 00:21:43 still a big part of you that that gospel background well I'll say like I won't
00:21:43 --> 00:21:48 say like gospel was a huge background when I speak on like my dad's side of
00:21:48 --> 00:21:53 family like they are like church folks like when I went there it was church you You know,
00:21:54 --> 00:21:59 my mother and them, like they did church, but it wasn't like a mandatory thing.
00:21:59 --> 00:22:04 With my grandmother and my step-grandmother, we would go to her church a lot.
00:22:04 --> 00:22:08 So I wouldn't say that I was like base root in church because that would be a lot.
00:22:09 --> 00:22:15 But I do know how to give back to when I need to give back and be thankful for
00:22:15 --> 00:22:17 which my talents do come from.
00:22:17 --> 00:22:20 So when i do a gospel show or something that's
00:22:20 --> 00:22:23 why you still feel the passion and the conviction because it
00:22:23 --> 00:22:26 is you know i mean it is just that it's something that's
00:22:26 --> 00:22:29 embedded in me but yeah it's not something that i
00:22:29 --> 00:22:32 grew up on every sunday i didn't go
00:22:32 --> 00:22:35 to bible study every wednesday i didn't go to night service
00:22:35 --> 00:22:37 i didn't go to everybody's service i didn't go to children's like
00:22:37 --> 00:22:44 you know i mean it wasn't that right okay all right okay well let me let me
00:22:44 --> 00:22:49 ask this we're gonna go back a little bit back down memory lane like we did
00:22:49 --> 00:22:55 this with lamont lennon and i both talked about when we first saw best kept soul.
00:22:57 --> 00:22:58 Linda, you said it was the same
00:22:58 --> 00:23:02 time. Was that the same time as when I called them at your award show?
00:23:02 --> 00:23:09 So I'm not sure. So the first time that I saw them is I think I was kind of working.
00:23:09 --> 00:23:12 Well, not really working, but I was kind of helping Cynthia Tire.
00:23:12 --> 00:23:18 And that's when she was, you know, I can't, uh, Crystal Room, Crystal Ballroom.
00:23:19 --> 00:23:25 And she was connected with Daryl. And, you know, me and Daryl became cool.
00:23:25 --> 00:23:29 So, you know, of course, you know, and I mean, if you hang around Cynthia,
00:23:29 --> 00:23:33 you're going to hang around all the artists, you know, like that's Cynthia.
00:23:34 --> 00:23:43 Yeah. So. So I, I think I met Daryl and then actually I knew Lamont via Hope Rose.
00:23:43 --> 00:23:47 So even before Cynthia Hope
00:23:47 --> 00:23:50 Rose started a it was like a networking that's where
00:23:50 --> 00:23:53 I met Lamont he was doing commercialized and then
00:23:53 --> 00:23:56 he transitioned into the band so I believe
00:23:56 --> 00:23:59 I met them there I didn't I don't
00:23:59 --> 00:24:02 think I met Miss Anne or Anne Latrice until
00:24:02 --> 00:24:05 the Delaware Black because I feel like that was the first time I saw I was like
00:24:05 --> 00:24:11 who that yeah yeah yeah yeah and it's funny i think that's that's actually the
00:24:11 --> 00:24:16 first time i had ever seen best kept soul was at that award show which was your
00:24:16 --> 00:24:20 second delaware black award show you guys were forming out there in the.
00:24:28 --> 00:24:31 One of the bands i was working with the full effect band at
00:24:31 --> 00:24:35 that time and they were nominated for award for best
00:24:35 --> 00:24:38 band and i just
00:24:38 --> 00:24:43 remember going out into the lobby and i was like well who's this band out here
00:24:43 --> 00:24:51 and i didn't go ahead well at that time i was not a part of the band so when
00:24:51 --> 00:24:57 i met boogie the band had already been together for a few months so whatever that award show was that,
00:25:00 --> 00:25:03 January, that's when I had gotten in contact and met Boogie and stuff.
00:25:03 --> 00:25:06 Because when he presented it to me, he was like, I have a band.
00:25:06 --> 00:25:08 We've only been together for a couple months.
00:25:08 --> 00:25:11 We're just trying to fit some pieces together and make it make sense.
00:25:11 --> 00:25:13 So who you saw that night?
00:25:15 --> 00:25:19 No, you saw Kyra, Phil Joseph.
00:25:20 --> 00:25:23 Yeah, Phil Joseph was with them. Yes. Yeah, and City was there.
00:25:24 --> 00:25:25 City looked so different then.
00:25:27 --> 00:25:30 I'll show you i remember city i remember city coppers
00:25:30 --> 00:25:33 met city when he was with right you know he i
00:25:33 --> 00:25:36 got introduced to city before he even started
00:25:36 --> 00:25:39 playing with um brian parr i met him through brian
00:25:39 --> 00:25:42 parr but i didn't know i didn't know you wasn't there that night that's true
00:25:42 --> 00:25:47 no i wasn't there that night no okay all right so but that was the first time
00:25:47 --> 00:25:52 i called best kept gold was that night and yeah they they had a different lineup
00:25:52 --> 00:25:55 at that time but they still were you know a very good group at that time.
00:25:56 --> 00:25:57 I was like, well, I had never heard of him.
00:25:58 --> 00:26:02 And then the next time I saw him, I noticed the lineup had changed, you know, because.
00:26:04 --> 00:26:06 I think it was later on that I saw him, and that's when I saw you.
00:26:06 --> 00:26:10 I do remember you were there that night. You and Kyra were the leads that night.
00:26:10 --> 00:26:15 And I was like, okay, all right, they got a good sound. I really like them.
00:26:15 --> 00:26:16 And I started following you.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:21 And then, of course, Front Stage Friday, when over at the Blue Parrot,
00:26:21 --> 00:26:25 I started going, Cynthia was like, you need to come over to the Blue Parrot
00:26:25 --> 00:26:28 and start checking out things over at the Blue Parrot. Because that's when I met.
00:26:28 --> 00:26:35 I actually started really getting to know you guys and Tracy and everybody else
00:26:35 --> 00:26:36 that was coming through there at that time.
00:26:37 --> 00:26:40 John, Coley, and all of them, you know, to the max.
00:26:40 --> 00:26:43 That's where everybody was saying. That was a great time, by the way.
00:26:43 --> 00:26:45 It really was. It really was.
00:26:45 --> 00:26:51 And, like, again, I give Cynthia a shout-out because she really showed me a lot.
00:26:51 --> 00:26:54 Like you said, you hang out with Cynthia, you're going to hang out with every
00:26:54 --> 00:26:59 star that she knows. Right, right. And she's not a stingy woman, you know.
00:26:59 --> 00:27:04 She will help you. And even to this day, I talk to Cynthia a lot.
00:27:04 --> 00:27:09 And I just went to Baltimore like a month ago or so with her and did a show
00:27:09 --> 00:27:11 for this guy that she has a contact with.
00:27:12 --> 00:27:16 She always like is always looking out, always checking on me,
00:27:16 --> 00:27:17 making sure everything is good with me.
00:27:18 --> 00:27:22 Like a second mom, really, to me, like and her and my mom have conversations.
00:27:22 --> 00:27:27 So always shout out Cynthia because she's always there helping me in my career.
00:27:27 --> 00:27:30 So I always make sure I give her a shout out.
00:27:30 --> 00:27:35 Well, that's one thing that's important because we find that a lot of people,
00:27:36 --> 00:27:40 especially when they are on the come up or they've come up already,
00:27:41 --> 00:27:45 who seem to forget about those people along the way.
00:27:45 --> 00:27:49 And I love since this show has started, you have name dropped the number of
00:27:49 --> 00:27:54 people that have helped you to get to where you are now.
00:27:54 --> 00:27:59 And that's a big, big thing because, you know, you don't hear that too often
00:27:59 --> 00:28:04 anymore. or everybody's me, me, me, and never talk about how they became me.
00:28:05 --> 00:28:08 And I like the fact that you're doing that during this show.
00:28:08 --> 00:28:14 Yeah, I think it's important to pay homage to people that, you know,
00:28:14 --> 00:28:16 have found a not robbery to help you.
00:28:16 --> 00:28:21 Because like I tell people all the time, it's so many different lanes in this
00:28:21 --> 00:28:22 industry that people can take and do.
00:28:23 --> 00:28:27 You can eat, I can eat. I'm never worried about anybody.
00:28:28 --> 00:28:31 What my platform is if i can
00:28:31 --> 00:28:34 help somebody else i'm gonna do it i know delaware
00:28:34 --> 00:28:36 is like that crab in a
00:28:36 --> 00:28:39 barrel mentality and nobody wants to help anybody
00:28:39 --> 00:28:43 because when i show you what i'm doing and you're going to come try to steal
00:28:43 --> 00:28:48 it you can't take what's for me just like i can't take what's for you if it's
00:28:48 --> 00:28:53 meant to be it's gonna happen period so if i can help somebody they want to
00:28:53 --> 00:28:56 sing my microphone is always open my stage is always open i tell people that
00:28:56 --> 00:28:58 all the time I'm never stingy.
00:28:59 --> 00:29:03 And I like the fact that, you know, you'll still go out there and still do karaoke.
00:29:04 --> 00:29:08 You know, you'll still do all of that kind of stuff. People still get to hear
00:29:08 --> 00:29:13 you, you know, you never forget about that part of who you are. That's great.
00:29:13 --> 00:29:21 That's great. Tell me about, you know, we're in the process of the 15 year anniversary.
00:29:21 --> 00:29:24 So before we even talk about what you guys
00:29:24 --> 00:29:27 have coming up tell me about since
00:29:27 --> 00:29:30 you've been with the group how the
00:29:30 --> 00:29:35 transitions from all the different people that have been a part of best kept
00:29:35 --> 00:29:41 soul has been for you and how your your group has been able to maintain with
00:29:41 --> 00:29:48 all the transitions that have happened over the years and still be the super group that you are,
00:29:48 --> 00:29:51 Like I stated earlier, I think it starts with the foundation,
00:29:51 --> 00:29:54 regardless of how many different people or players, you know,
00:29:54 --> 00:29:56 move around. You have to have a base.
00:29:57 --> 00:30:01 And one of the things about a base is you need to have communication.
00:30:01 --> 00:30:04 I think a lot of things happen in a lot of bands and situations,
00:30:05 --> 00:30:06 the communication dies.
00:30:06 --> 00:30:09 And then you have somebody that's mad at somebody. They don't even know why
00:30:09 --> 00:30:12 they're mad at that person. But guess what? Now we can't get together.
00:30:12 --> 00:30:16 And now your band that you have potential for now is to the wayside because
00:30:16 --> 00:30:18 nobody wants to talk about it.
00:30:19 --> 00:30:23 And that's why I say we're, we're family. Like every day is not a bed of roses.
00:30:24 --> 00:30:31 I think Lamont quit 15 times in the past month, but it's just,
00:30:31 --> 00:30:34 it's just about being real, being open, being honest.
00:30:34 --> 00:30:39 And when new people are transitioning out, make sure they understand the premise of what we're here for.
00:30:39 --> 00:30:42 You know we i it
00:30:42 --> 00:30:45 is funny because i call it the chitlin circuit you know back
00:30:45 --> 00:30:48 in the day you would have your your sweet i mean not sweet daddy's
00:30:48 --> 00:30:51 shades of blue sugs that used to be
00:30:51 --> 00:30:56 on fourth street and wilson's lounge you know i mean everybody was in that same
00:30:56 --> 00:31:01 circuit so you know i mean you interacted with everybody and if you don't remember
00:31:01 --> 00:31:06 where you come from and how things started when you was making $40 for a person
00:31:06 --> 00:31:08 singing three, four hours in a bar.
00:31:09 --> 00:31:14 Yeah. You got to remember that stuff. You know what I mean? Keep yourself humble
00:31:14 --> 00:31:16 because you never know when it's going to stop.
00:31:16 --> 00:31:19 But it's like the merry-go-round right now. It's like, we can't get off this
00:31:19 --> 00:31:21 merry-go-round. I don't want to get off of it.
00:31:22 --> 00:31:26 Right. Right. Right. You know, but I think it's just like being open and honest
00:31:26 --> 00:31:30 and having communication throughout as things transition.
00:31:30 --> 00:31:33 Everybody has to go through an evolution period.
00:31:34 --> 00:31:38 Well, that's true. Everybody does have to go through that and that's what makes
00:31:38 --> 00:31:43 the journey even sweeter when you get to where you need to be.
00:31:45 --> 00:31:48 Tell me this with new music coming out and you
00:31:48 --> 00:31:51 guys i know you guys have worked had some original music out
00:31:51 --> 00:31:54 there in the past and so forth and you guys have
00:31:54 --> 00:31:57 done pretty well with that original music and with
00:31:57 --> 00:32:01 new music coming out now are you gonna because we're
00:32:01 --> 00:32:05 in a different day and time now when it comes to becoming famous
00:32:05 --> 00:32:08 and and and getting your music out there and
00:32:08 --> 00:32:11 so forth with the internet and social media and
00:32:11 --> 00:32:15 so forth you know you got people becoming big time
00:32:15 --> 00:32:18 you know entertainers because they're
00:32:18 --> 00:32:22 putting their music out on tick tock and they're doing videos and so forth or
00:32:22 --> 00:32:28 you know on instagram or some of the other services out there are you guys looking
00:32:28 --> 00:32:35 to lean that way about putting your music out on social media and especially
00:32:35 --> 00:32:37 with the new music that you guys have coming out?
00:32:38 --> 00:32:43 Are you guys looking to do that to try to get more traction as far as a national
00:32:43 --> 00:32:46 audience is concerned? What are you thinking?
00:32:46 --> 00:32:50 Definitely going to use the different platforms to stream music,
00:32:50 --> 00:32:55 like, you know, your TikTok, your Spotify, Apple Music, things of that nature.
00:32:55 --> 00:33:01 But what I'll say is, I think I'm at the point where I just want them to do original music.
00:33:01 --> 00:33:07 I don't see myself being this big star, to be honest. it's like.
00:33:08 --> 00:33:14 I think I'll get anxiety to be honest. It's like right now, I'm not a huge star,
00:33:15 --> 00:33:16 but I'm known. You know what I'm saying?
00:33:17 --> 00:33:21 And I said, I'm going to write a song talking about don't bother me when I'm
00:33:21 --> 00:33:23 in Walmart buying tampons. Like, because that's what happens.
00:33:24 --> 00:33:28 You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm a regular person. Just when you, like, people go crazy.
00:33:28 --> 00:33:33 I just like, so I don't think I can handle being that big of a person.
00:33:33 --> 00:33:38 I'm fine in this realm. and if I'm busy can get out there and they can touch
00:33:38 --> 00:33:41 other people then that's what it's for right if somebody happens to hear it
00:33:41 --> 00:33:44 and wants to run with it so be it but that's not what I'm looking for to be
00:33:44 --> 00:33:49 honest okay so we get we can't look forward to seeing you on Jimmy Fallon or
00:33:49 --> 00:33:52 something like that I mean listen,
00:33:53 --> 00:33:59 God's plan is God's plan it's meant to happen it'll happen but what I feel and
00:33:59 --> 00:34:06 foresee is like I don't know if I could be up there I like my D-Berry's right here Okay. Sorry. Okay.
00:34:07 --> 00:34:15 Well, it's been 15 years and you guys, you guys, you know, done a lot in 15 years.
00:34:16 --> 00:34:19 I know I was fortunate enough to hang out with you guys for a little bit and
00:34:19 --> 00:34:23 always will be attached to you guys at some point, you know,
00:34:23 --> 00:34:26 some way because I'm, you know, always going to be a fan. So.
00:34:27 --> 00:34:30 But now you're going to celebrate 15 years.
00:34:31 --> 00:34:35 Tell us about, tell us about this big, big event that you guys got coming up.
00:34:36 --> 00:34:39 Yeah, absolutely. So I will say this. So the reason why we stopped talking to
00:34:39 --> 00:34:42 Dave, because Deacon Dave stole some money. No, I'm just kidding.
00:34:44 --> 00:34:47 Tell the truth. Shame the devil. Go ahead. Go ahead, Ann Latrice.
00:34:48 --> 00:34:51 I paid you not to say anything about that. Yeah.
00:34:52 --> 00:34:56 You ain't paying no yeah you ain't
00:34:56 --> 00:34:59 paying no she ain't paying no anyway anyway
00:34:59 --> 00:35:02 we'll move past that so go ahead okay i'm sorry
00:35:02 --> 00:35:05 we can edit that part not no no no no
00:35:05 --> 00:35:09 no no no letter it is what
00:35:09 --> 00:35:19 it is but um anyway go ahead so 15 years wow it's been a long time so i know
00:35:19 --> 00:35:24 right and the The anniversary gathering started off as just the conversation
00:35:24 --> 00:35:26 that Lamont and I were having, like, we should really do something.
00:35:27 --> 00:35:32 And that was, like, in January. And then we actually started sitting down and formulating things.
00:35:33 --> 00:35:39 Shout out to Montrell, because Montrell Ward has really been an influential piece in this. Okay.
00:35:39 --> 00:35:42 Because we didn't know where to start, what direction to go in.
00:35:42 --> 00:35:46 And she has been our coordinator throughout this whole thing. Okay.
00:35:47 --> 00:35:50 A lot of different ideas bounced around. We've seen a lot of different places.
00:35:50 --> 00:35:52 And then we just settled on what we were going to do.
00:35:52 --> 00:35:58 So the 23rd of this month at the Dahlia, which is a new shot little venue that's
00:35:58 --> 00:36:02 on Jessup Street on the north side of Wilmington, two floors.
00:36:02 --> 00:36:06 It has a capacity of thing about 500 people. We're really trying to get 500
00:36:06 --> 00:36:09 people in there. I think we're at three right now.
00:36:09 --> 00:36:11 So we're close to.
00:36:12 --> 00:36:17 So if we could get that just just to see the outpouring of people,
00:36:17 --> 00:36:19 just making sure as soon as the tickets went on sale.
00:36:20 --> 00:36:23 They were like table, table, table, table.
00:36:23 --> 00:36:26 Like, you know what I mean? So that was a beautiful thing to see.
00:36:27 --> 00:36:29 But like I said, it's like a gala type event.
00:36:29 --> 00:36:32 It will be, the colors are black and gold.
00:36:32 --> 00:36:37 And we have a lot of different things going on that evening from karaoke DJ
00:36:37 --> 00:36:40 to a regular DJ with the 360 camera.
00:36:41 --> 00:36:45 We have special guests coming through that will perform like Fred Reed.
00:36:45 --> 00:36:47 City's going to make an appearance later.
00:36:48 --> 00:36:54 Aziz and Naila will be making a performance. Ross Mustafa, everybody knows Ross,
00:36:54 --> 00:36:55 you know, coming through.
00:36:56 --> 00:36:58 Then we have a house band that'll play for them.
00:36:58 --> 00:37:02 We're actually going to do also like a Q&A segment for the band.
00:37:02 --> 00:37:06 So people had any questions that they've been dying to ask, you know,
00:37:07 --> 00:37:10 nothing too strange, too strange, you know. Right, right.
00:37:11 --> 00:37:18 Don't ask something stupid now. But, you know, just because we gig so much and
00:37:18 --> 00:37:23 it's really work, that night will be an opportunity for us to engage with people,
00:37:23 --> 00:37:27 take pictures, you know, just really commemorate and have a good time.
00:37:27 --> 00:37:33 We'll have videos playing over the years of, you know, the best kept soul evolution, as I call it.
00:37:34 --> 00:37:37 I have to talk to Lamont because of some videos he's not allowed to play and
00:37:37 --> 00:37:38 I got to screen them first.
00:37:39 --> 00:37:42 Because I always say in the beginning those beginning
00:37:42 --> 00:37:45 footages y'all could trash that because I was not in the
00:37:45 --> 00:37:50 trees you haven't evolved
00:37:50 --> 00:37:55 yet right yeah and you know and then we'll close out the evening with a performance
00:37:55 --> 00:38:00 by us we have like I said a lot of different things we have vendors of course
00:38:00 --> 00:38:07 the bar set up with Erica with craft cocktails yes yeah I'm name dropping y'all So,
00:38:07 --> 00:38:09 yeah, I better get some recognition for this.
00:38:10 --> 00:38:13 Yeah, that's right. When y'all out there, business is done. Yeah, that's right.
00:38:14 --> 00:38:16 Food, bionics, catering.
00:38:17 --> 00:38:22 It's just, it's a lot. It's a fun-filled, very thought-out evening.
00:38:23 --> 00:38:26 By us doing the Soul Train Cruise, it gave us the idea to, like,
00:38:26 --> 00:38:32 have, since we have two floors to utilize, just having something going on at each moment.
00:38:32 --> 00:38:35 So, you could be upstairs, you could be downstairs. Wherever you're at,
00:38:35 --> 00:38:38 there's something going to be going on at all points in time of the evening.
00:38:39 --> 00:38:43 It's definitely something to look forward for. The tickets right now are $30.
00:38:43 --> 00:38:48 If you don't want any of the heavy hors d'oeuvres that will be served, that ticket is $50.
00:38:49 --> 00:38:54 I think we're nearing $50 ticket sales ending, which I think is the 16th of this month.
00:38:56 --> 00:38:58 Eventbrite is a place to get tickets.
00:38:58 --> 00:39:02 You can just look up Best Kept Soul Fantastic Voyage on Eventbrite.
00:39:02 --> 00:39:05 Also, we have physical tickets. You can contact myself
00:39:05 --> 00:39:08 or Lamont or really any member of the band
00:39:08 --> 00:39:11 if you want a physical ticket and you know we can make
00:39:11 --> 00:39:14 sure we get that to you but this is
00:39:14 --> 00:39:17 the event that you don't want to read about on facebook you don't
00:39:17 --> 00:39:20 want to see somebody else's video shout out to leonard because
00:39:20 --> 00:39:24 we did just see your sponsorship so thank you so much you're welcome you're
00:39:24 --> 00:39:31 welcome yeah and i i i believe uh deacon dave i have a sponsorship too so he
00:39:31 --> 00:39:36 he's not blessed y'all okay because i was about to say you know i get the emails
00:39:36 --> 00:39:39 and I did not see Dave Coker come up as a person that bought no ticket.
00:39:42 --> 00:39:47 Oh, wow. Wow. Yeah. That money you stole from us, you can use that.
00:39:54 --> 00:40:00 I love her. I love her. You know, let it be her. We go at it all the time. We go at it all the time.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:04 Dave, Dave, I thought I knew you.
00:40:04 --> 00:40:07 You need to make this right. You need to make this right, Dave.
00:40:08 --> 00:40:10 You need to make it right. Yes, absolutely.
00:40:11 --> 00:40:15 I'll get with you later. Okay? I ain't going to answer the phone.
00:40:15 --> 00:40:16 You ain't going to answer the phone.
00:40:18 --> 00:40:24 Did I just hear Dave say that if somebody comes right now and he's going to
00:40:24 --> 00:40:26 purchase two tickets for them? Is that what I just heard?
00:40:27 --> 00:40:31 I could have swore I just heard that. Look, let me tell you this, Ann.
00:40:32 --> 00:40:35 No, no, no. Don't say what it is.
00:40:36 --> 00:40:40 It's not about Leonard. It's not about Leonard. I'm going to go get the money
00:40:40 --> 00:40:43 from Leonard and we'll take care of that. Well, Leonard did his part and I saw
00:40:43 --> 00:40:45 that. I still haven't seen it.
00:40:45 --> 00:40:49 Leonard didn't include my name on the sponsorship. I don't know why he didn't do that.
00:40:49 --> 00:40:54 I don't know why he didn't do that. But anyway, we'll talk about that.
00:40:55 --> 00:41:00 I'll probably put my wife on there. You know, me and her. I had to do a problem.
00:41:02 --> 00:41:05 And I want to say congratulations, Leonard, to you and your wife.
00:41:05 --> 00:41:09 Because that campground that y'all have down there is, is ridiculous.
00:41:09 --> 00:41:12 Oh, thank you. Like when we did that, we did that event.
00:41:12 --> 00:41:18 I was just like so blown away because first off is black owned and that right
00:41:18 --> 00:41:23 there is, you know, top notch and it's top notch. You know, you guys are really
00:41:23 --> 00:41:26 doing your thing out there. Well, kind of like I tell Dave, you know.
00:41:27 --> 00:41:30 We hear a lot of compliments, but I can guarantee you during the week,
00:41:31 --> 00:41:36 I'm running around like Kunta Kinte, picking up trash, leaves, everything.
00:41:36 --> 00:41:40 And I've invited Dave to come down and help me do some work.
00:41:40 --> 00:41:41 And I've not seen it. Oh, he's not.
00:41:42 --> 00:41:47 No, no, no, no, because he's not going to pay me to do the work that he needs
00:41:47 --> 00:41:50 me to do. So, you know, but I've been down there.
00:41:50 --> 00:41:55 I do go down there. I do go down there. So, but he, you know,
00:41:55 --> 00:42:00 one thing we can say, you know, we're talking to you because,
00:42:00 --> 00:42:05 you know, you guys have made it and you guys have been consistent all this time.
00:42:05 --> 00:42:09 And your platform is awesome.
00:42:09 --> 00:42:12 And just like with Leonard, you know, think about it, you know,
00:42:13 --> 00:42:16 go back to the Delaware Black Awards and all the awards, especially you guys
00:42:16 --> 00:42:19 won quite a few awards through there and so forth.
00:42:19 --> 00:42:26 And going back to the very beginning, Best Kept Soul all the way up until now.
00:42:26 --> 00:42:29 And, you know, Leonard has always been, you know, and Delaware Black has always
00:42:29 --> 00:42:31 been a part of that as well.
00:42:31 --> 00:42:35 So, you know, you guys kind of come full circle when it comes to this thing.
00:42:36 --> 00:42:41 And that's good because, you know, when you look at it, you guys have kind of
00:42:41 --> 00:42:44 been interlocked with each other, you know, all this time.
00:42:44 --> 00:42:48 And your success and Leonard's success has happened around the same time.
00:42:49 --> 00:42:52 If you look at it yeah you know what i mean
00:42:52 --> 00:42:55 it's funny because when i did the math and i'm like okay 15
00:42:55 --> 00:42:58 years that's 2009 well first
00:42:58 --> 00:43:03 that makes me feel old as hell yeah right delawareblack.com
00:43:03 --> 00:43:05 started in 2006 yeah in
00:43:05 --> 00:43:09 2006 and i was like god damn i was like in two years that's
00:43:09 --> 00:43:12 about to be a 20th in fact i'm well i
00:43:12 --> 00:43:16 had to get with dave to plan the delawareblack.com 20th
00:43:16 --> 00:43:20 but best kept soul has been a big part of what we did in the beginning because
00:43:20 --> 00:43:25 to be honest like i've i came to a lot of the events and of course if you're
00:43:25 --> 00:43:29 around cynthia you just gotta be around music period so yeah yeah you know so
00:43:29 --> 00:43:32 i mean but you know even when i look back at best kept soul.
00:43:33 --> 00:43:37 I'll say the last couple years delawareblack.com fell off but best kept soul
00:43:37 --> 00:43:43 had really been like a train and really just chugging through the years and
00:43:43 --> 00:43:48 you know they just as popular as they were in 2009, 2010,
00:43:48 --> 00:43:54 they're even more popular in 2024, which is really a testament to,
00:43:54 --> 00:43:58 you know, Ann Latrice and how much of an entertainer you are.
00:43:58 --> 00:44:04 You know, Lamont, the band members. As a matter of fact, while you're saying
00:44:04 --> 00:44:08 that and while we're talking about it, why don't you tell us who Best Kept Soul are?
00:44:09 --> 00:44:12 Get the names of the band members so everybody can hear that right quick.
00:44:12 --> 00:44:17 Absolutely. So on keyboard, we have John Icaro on keys.
00:44:18 --> 00:44:23 Right now, our drummer is Varnell Mincy, a.k.a. Duder.
00:44:23 --> 00:44:27 Then we have Jerome Yancey, Robe, on bass.
00:44:27 --> 00:44:35 Lamont the villain on lead guitar and then on vocals is myself and Latrice and
00:44:35 --> 00:44:40 then we have Dwayne DJ DC vocals as he wants to call himself yeah,
00:44:41 --> 00:44:46 you get a little ahead of yourself someday oh my god.
00:44:48 --> 00:44:55 But I mean we're just a six piece unit and we come with an entourage,
00:44:56 --> 00:44:59 right and this lineup has been together now
00:44:59 --> 00:45:02 for how long now we this with
00:45:02 --> 00:45:05 Dwayne I think Dwayne's on his eighth year with
00:45:05 --> 00:45:11 us wow and it seems it seems like yesterday I promise you it's like when we
00:45:11 --> 00:45:15 sit and do the math like it's been eight years but you know before Dwayne I
00:45:15 --> 00:45:21 was doing it by myself for about two yeah right um because I was at the city
00:45:21 --> 00:45:25 yeah city moved to Atlanta and Kyra, she was focusing on home and kids.
00:45:27 --> 00:45:34 You know, Dwayne was you know, I was the person that brought Dwayne to you guys.
00:45:34 --> 00:45:35 You know that, right? I remember.
00:45:37 --> 00:45:40 Why did y'all bring him to me? No, I'm just kidding.
00:45:41 --> 00:45:45 No, because within that two years really, in that two years of me being by myself,
00:45:45 --> 00:45:49 I think that's what strengthened me and
00:45:49 --> 00:45:52 really brought me to where i am right now you
00:45:52 --> 00:45:55 handled it you handled i did i i really did and
00:45:55 --> 00:45:58 you know that that was a test because right then and
00:45:58 --> 00:46:01 there we could have stopped you know what i'm saying but it
00:46:01 --> 00:46:06 wasn't god's will for that to happen like i pushed through the guys pushed through
00:46:06 --> 00:46:11 it was some rough nights some nights but at the end of the day when the purpose
00:46:11 --> 00:46:15 is is supposed to be then we're just gonna make it happen so right that's right
00:46:15 --> 00:46:20 well you and you and duane though you guys are funny together.
00:46:21 --> 00:46:26 But you guys really play off each other very well, too. You guys have very unique singing styles.
00:46:27 --> 00:46:32 But you guys really kill it out there on the floor. I think that's what makes people.
00:46:33 --> 00:46:37 I guess the evolution since over the last eight years is really because of,
00:46:37 --> 00:46:43 you know, I mean, not any shade to the musicians because the musicians are great, top notch.
00:46:44 --> 00:46:48 But you guys chemistry on the on the floor is really awesome.
00:46:49 --> 00:46:51 Right. You know, because the musicians, they play the music.
00:46:51 --> 00:46:53 The singer is the storyteller.
00:46:53 --> 00:46:58 Like I have to convey these words and make people understand and feel my if
00:46:58 --> 00:47:03 I haven't made you sing, dance, laugh or cry by the end of the night that I haven't done much.
00:47:03 --> 00:47:07 Yeah yep yep that's right and that's what i that's what i thrive for every time
00:47:07 --> 00:47:11 i i step foot on a stage every time i sing i'm nervous before i start i don't
00:47:11 --> 00:47:13 care if i've done a venue a thousand times
00:47:14 --> 00:47:19 i don't care if somebody has seen me for the thousands at one time i am internally nervous,
00:47:20 --> 00:47:24 and i get out there and i do what i need to do okay all
00:47:24 --> 00:47:27 right cool yeah well we know you do it too because you
00:47:27 --> 00:47:30 do it well so all right let's do
00:47:30 --> 00:47:33 this why don't you tell us we know you got the we
00:47:33 --> 00:47:36 know we got the anniversary coming up why don't you
00:47:36 --> 00:47:41 tell us about anything else you got going on and then how people can contact
00:47:41 --> 00:47:46 you through your social media or anything else you want to give out right now
00:47:46 --> 00:47:51 we are kind of quiet for this month because we are gearing up for the anniversary
00:47:51 --> 00:47:55 try not to be any places local where people can see us for less.
00:47:57 --> 00:48:02 I knew where you were going i knew where you were going we just did some private
00:48:02 --> 00:48:07 events in the beginning of the month i know friday we're down salisbury at brew
00:48:07 --> 00:48:11 river which is always a time shout out to salisbury they love us so much down
00:48:11 --> 00:48:14 there i love it down there probably trying to look for a home down there to
00:48:14 --> 00:48:16 be honest as much as we're there,
00:48:17 --> 00:48:22 okay yeah we're there a lot on the lower part every month it's once a month right,
00:48:23 --> 00:48:26 yeah and not just that like we're down there in cambridge area
00:48:26 --> 00:48:29 a lot so we got a nice
00:48:29 --> 00:48:32 fan base down there which is phenomenal phenomenal
00:48:32 --> 00:48:38 i know we did an event down there at one of their big convention centers and
00:48:38 --> 00:48:42 they do this thing where they have like dinner and and a band and the first
00:48:42 --> 00:48:45 time we were there no i do they've been doing this for years but when we were
00:48:45 --> 00:48:49 there for the first time was the first time they ever sold this place out oh
00:48:49 --> 00:48:51 wow and i think it held like five six hundred,
00:48:52 --> 00:48:58 people you know and yeah so down there our fan base is ridiculous not to take
00:48:58 --> 00:49:01 away from anything up here because you guys are amazing but y'all step your
00:49:01 --> 00:49:02 game up no i'm just playing.
00:49:04 --> 00:49:07 Well hey uh and latrice is fine listen to
00:49:07 --> 00:49:10 that i'm like damn we need to do that for the campground like yeah
00:49:10 --> 00:49:14 well here um after this event i guess i'll talk to either you or lamont and
00:49:14 --> 00:49:19 just try you know see what we can do because we we need some sellouts every
00:49:19 --> 00:49:23 month like y'all be doing for saltbury and we're a little bit closer yeah absolutely
00:49:23 --> 00:49:28 like you say you know we have phone call away all you gotta do is link up and
00:49:28 --> 00:49:29 we'll make it happen absolutely.
00:49:32 --> 00:49:34 And did you want anybody to contact you on
00:49:34 --> 00:49:37 your social media pages or did you oh yeah i'm not hidden

00:49:53 --> 00:49:57 under the best kept soul best kept soul supporters best kept soul on facebook
00:49:57 --> 00:50:02 instagram twitter and our website www.bestkepsoul.com.
00:50:02 --> 00:50:03 Great, great.
00:50:04 --> 00:50:08 All right. So what we're going to do now, we're going to kind of transition
00:50:08 --> 00:50:10 to our other part of this show.
00:50:10 --> 00:50:15 We're going to have you hang out with us for a little bit just so we can get
00:50:15 --> 00:50:18 your thoughts on a couple of things that we're going to talk about.
00:50:20 --> 00:50:23 So we got a couple of stories that we want to talk about.
00:50:23 --> 00:50:26 And Leonard, I'm going to change this up a little bit i
00:50:26 --> 00:50:30 want to hold the first thing that you
00:50:30 --> 00:50:32 have there i'm going to hold that till later on i'll bring
00:50:32 --> 00:50:35 that up just before dave's corner let's go to uh
00:50:35 --> 00:50:38 let's go to this the story here
00:50:38 --> 00:50:46 we just got through the election last week and we we we came on last weekend
00:50:46 --> 00:50:52 and did our uh our election recap we we had a lot to say you know so but we
00:50:52 --> 00:50:57 did that last week but And there's been some aftermath,
00:50:57 --> 00:51:02 of course, as far as what, you know, the results of the election was last week.
00:51:02 --> 00:51:09 So what I came across, I came across this story that I just wanted to get your guys' opinion on.
00:51:10 --> 00:51:15 And, you know, I'm going to put these glasses on because this font is crazy on this thing.
00:51:16 --> 00:51:23 So, okay, but it's racist text messages threaten Black students nationwide after Trump wins.
00:51:24 --> 00:51:28 So I'm going to read a little bit of this. It said, News One can confirm the
00:51:28 --> 00:51:31 messages have been sent to Black students all over the country,
00:51:31 --> 00:51:35 as one of our writers was also sent to threatening text.
00:51:35 --> 00:51:41 Black students at the University of Alabama have reported receiving racist text
00:51:41 --> 00:51:47 messages after Donald Trump's presidential election win, an incident that seems
00:51:47 --> 00:51:50 to be turning into a nationwide threat.
00:51:51 --> 00:51:55 It said Black UA students have been receiving racial threats from a slew of
00:51:55 --> 00:51:56 anonymous phone numbers.
00:51:56 --> 00:52:01 The numbers feature area codes inside and outside the state,
00:52:01 --> 00:52:06 making it difficult to trace. One of the messages said the recipient had been
00:52:06 --> 00:52:09 selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation.
00:52:10 --> 00:52:14 Be ready at 1 p.m. sharp with your belongings.
00:52:14 --> 00:52:18 Our executive slaves will come, get you in a brown van.
00:52:19 --> 00:52:24 Be prepared to be searched down once you enter the plantation.
00:52:24 --> 00:52:30 You are in Plantation Group C. Good day, the racist text read.
00:52:30 --> 00:52:33 Parents and students and include including
00:52:33 --> 00:52:36 those who received the text expressed fear and
00:52:36 --> 00:52:40 dismay about the messages Arletta McCall
00:52:40 --> 00:52:45 the mother of Elise a freshman at UA said her daughter skipped classes on Wednesday
00:52:45 --> 00:52:51 because she feared for safety and that as a parent the text meant made her feel
00:52:51 --> 00:52:57 uneasy disappointed and unsafe she also said that she didn't know how the sender
00:52:57 --> 00:52:59 knew so much about her daughter,
00:53:00 --> 00:53:03 including her phone number and the fact that she was black.
00:53:03 --> 00:53:08 Other students have received the text that it felt like a joke at first,
00:53:08 --> 00:53:12 but that feeling quickly became fear and stress.
00:53:12 --> 00:53:19 All right. So with that being said, what are your guys' thoughts about what
00:53:19 --> 00:53:22 I just read and what you just heard?
00:53:22 --> 00:53:26 Now, this school is not the only school because there's been some HBCU schools
00:53:26 --> 00:53:30 that have also received these type of text messages.
00:53:30 --> 00:53:37 And let's start with you first. What's your thought about everything that's
00:53:37 --> 00:53:43 happened since the election and these type of threats that people are receiving, especially students?
00:53:44 --> 00:53:50 I will say more or less, we live in an AI-influenced world today.
00:53:50 --> 00:53:56 Today yeah and it's not shocking that somebody knows you're black to be honest
00:53:56 --> 00:54:00 with all these different ais when you when you fill out something on your phone
00:54:00 --> 00:54:05 it asks your you know your ethnicity and all that so therefore these things
00:54:05 --> 00:54:07 are being tracked somewhere okay.
00:54:08 --> 00:54:11 I don't get into politics. I really
00:54:11 --> 00:54:14 don't because nobody cared to hear my views on them. So I stay away.
00:54:15 --> 00:54:21 You know, it's a racy, typical, you know what I mean? It's a racy topic at times.
00:54:21 --> 00:54:29 But I just think there shouldn't be any surprise as to what's going on right now, to be honest.
00:54:30 --> 00:54:34 I don't feel as though that's going to happen. You know, I mean,
00:54:35 --> 00:54:36 you're going to willingly get in the van.
00:54:36 --> 00:54:39 Like i mean things have to occur in
00:54:39 --> 00:54:42 order for it to happen you know i mean you're not just you know
00:54:42 --> 00:54:46 i mean like ai guys ai i'm
00:54:46 --> 00:54:49 sorry and it's not in the hbcus you
00:54:49 --> 00:54:52 know the majority black anyway so of course they're going to
00:54:52 --> 00:54:55 target what they need to target and they're going to it's going to scare you
00:54:55 --> 00:54:58 that's the whole tactic is to scare you but i
00:54:58 --> 00:55:01 believe in a higher power so i don't worry about stuff like that to
00:55:01 --> 00:55:05 be honest that's just me all right all right leonard what's your thought on
00:55:05 --> 00:55:09 it so i mean overall first i i thought it was just crazy you know it's funny
00:55:09 --> 00:55:13 like when i heard about the first one i think i heard it like happening washington
00:55:13 --> 00:55:18 dc some black people getting the text messages then i heard like tennessee then
00:55:18 --> 00:55:20 alabama then texas florida.
00:55:21 --> 00:55:24 So you know like in my mind first of all
00:55:24 --> 00:55:27 you know i'm just trying to think of okay how is
00:55:27 --> 00:55:30 somebody sending a mass text to all these people you
00:55:30 --> 00:55:33 know where do they get their information from you know
00:55:33 --> 00:55:36 is this a government you know person is
00:55:36 --> 00:55:41 this you know are these hackers i read one article and it made it sound like
00:55:41 --> 00:55:46 you know people who had black sounding names got them like keisha you know you
00:55:46 --> 00:55:50 know names like that and i mean it don't make a lot of sense to me but it's
00:55:50 --> 00:55:55 like you know it's almost like you know how can this really happen and.
00:55:56 --> 00:56:01 So I think when I was reading, they identified the text message company that
00:56:01 --> 00:56:06 these messages came from or like, you know, the service that it originated from.
00:56:06 --> 00:56:13 And, you know, it also makes me think, you know, how is it maybe legal or,
00:56:13 --> 00:56:20 you know, responsible to allow people to do anonymous things through your service?
00:56:20 --> 00:56:25 So it's kind of like, you know, if this text message service allows people to
00:56:25 --> 00:56:30 anonymous anonymously send out racist or bullying text messages,
00:56:30 --> 00:56:34 then they they should really be held live, you know.
00:56:34 --> 00:56:39 So, I mean, you know, it's kind of hard to say, kind of like Miss Ann Latrice said.
00:56:39 --> 00:56:43 But, you know, I think it's one of the things, too, where, you know,
00:56:43 --> 00:56:48 we have to just recognize that this is something that's trying to trigger us.
00:56:48 --> 00:56:54 And you know like she said like i know for sure ain't no brown van coming around
00:56:54 --> 00:56:57 here to pick me up at one o'clock to take me to the plantation to pick cotton
00:56:57 --> 00:57:01 you know so but i will say too,
00:57:01 --> 00:57:06 there were also high school and middle school students have received it and
00:57:06 --> 00:57:11 you know hopefully it's not too traumatizing for them dave in our area i did
00:57:11 --> 00:57:15 read that some middle school students in the suburbs of Pennsylvania.
00:57:16 --> 00:57:20 I'm sorry, suburbs of Philadelphia, they received text messages.
00:57:20 --> 00:57:25 And I found out some of my nieces also received messages similar.
00:57:25 --> 00:57:28 So, I mean, it's disturbing, but
00:57:28 --> 00:57:34 hopefully the FBI catches that person and makes their name face public.
00:57:35 --> 00:57:40 But it's just as disturbing as while the whole election's going on,
00:57:40 --> 00:57:43 the text message you're receiving from people you don't know oh my goodness
00:57:43 --> 00:57:51 like so to me it's all the same you know what i'm saying let me ask you did
00:57:51 --> 00:57:54 did you get the aggressive text messages too,
00:57:55 --> 00:57:59 yes like it's like why are you looking at your phone like who because who are
00:57:59 --> 00:58:09 you like they call you by your first name they do but but they they so i was
00:58:09 --> 00:58:12 gonna say and one time i posted in my story. I couldn't believe it.
00:58:12 --> 00:58:16 But I got this text message and it said it was all caps too,
00:58:16 --> 00:58:17 like they were yelling at me.
00:58:17 --> 00:58:22 And it said, we asked you seven times who you were voting for and you did not
00:58:22 --> 00:58:24 tell us you were voting for Kamala.
00:58:24 --> 00:58:27 We need you to let us know immediately who you're voting for.
00:58:27 --> 00:58:30 And it almost makes you want to curse at the phone like, who are you talking to?
00:58:30 --> 00:58:34 But it's like, I mean, but no, I mean, I do agree.
00:58:35 --> 00:58:37 Those texts were obnoxious and.
00:58:38 --> 00:58:41 If these government officials are going to spam us like that,
00:58:41 --> 00:58:43 I don't have faith in nobody.
00:58:44 --> 00:58:47 Yeah, because you guys, look at over the years. Years ago, did you have any
00:58:47 --> 00:58:49 of these issues with your phone? No, no.
00:58:50 --> 00:58:53 We live in an AI computer world.
00:58:53 --> 00:58:58 This is what's going on. Right. This is what you fear now. You better fear for
00:58:58 --> 00:59:00 the future, for real real. Yeah, yeah.
00:59:01 --> 00:59:03 And real quick, I was just going to say, the funniest thing is,
00:59:04 --> 00:59:05 I don't know if you have an iPhone.
00:59:05 --> 00:59:09 I know Dave does. i'll get a message and it'll
00:59:09 --> 00:59:12 say this is kamala and then like
00:59:12 --> 00:59:14 in the part where it tells you like who's sending the message will
00:59:14 --> 00:59:19 say emily so i text emily back and i was like emily like why are you messaging
00:59:19 --> 00:59:25 me and she's like huh and i mean i never replied after that but yeah yeah and
00:59:25 --> 00:59:29 that's when you look at these type of threats and everything when you think
00:59:29 --> 00:59:33 about it and and it's funny because Dan said exactly where I was going to go with this,
00:59:34 --> 00:59:41 was that it's got to be some of the same people or maybe they're selling the
00:59:41 --> 00:59:42 information or whatever.
00:59:42 --> 00:59:46 Those people that were sending those text messages as far as voting and everything
00:59:46 --> 00:59:52 or who you're voting for, that type of thing, that information has to come from those same sources.
00:59:52 --> 00:59:56 It has to be, you know, for them to have our numbers and all of that kind of stuff.
00:59:56 --> 01:00:00 Yes it's the AI world and so forth Leonard and I have been talking about AI
01:00:00 --> 01:00:08 just about every other week you know so because AI is taking over everything and it's really scary.
01:00:09 --> 01:00:14 We just have to be careful. Hopefully none of this stuff is really legit and
01:00:14 --> 01:00:21 that people aren't being pushed in the vans or taken to places and told that, you know,
01:00:21 --> 01:00:26 they have to do this or they have to do that because that's really not going to end well.
01:00:26 --> 01:00:29 It really is not going to end well, people, if that kind of happens.
01:00:30 --> 01:00:33 Well, what I have to realize right now, too, is we're not our ancestors.
01:00:34 --> 01:00:37 You know, we have a lot more resources, like a lot.
01:00:38 --> 01:00:42 We're not them. that's not going to happen sorry no no
01:00:42 --> 01:00:44 yeah that's what i'm saying it's not going to end well people
01:00:44 --> 01:00:47 start doing that because people will get taken out
01:00:47 --> 01:00:51 definitely i can tell you that for sure so all right
01:00:51 --> 01:00:55 well we're going to move on to our next story i think you got that one right
01:00:55 --> 01:00:59 you go to that one yeah so um the next story is something that i've been hearing
01:00:59 --> 01:01:03 a lot about on the internet but i've never seen the pictures but this one is
01:01:03 --> 01:01:08 talking about a um a black mother who she wasn't forced,
01:01:08 --> 01:01:11 but she did it just to prove a point.
01:01:11 --> 01:01:17 But she took a DNA test after people said that her daughter was not really her
01:01:17 --> 01:01:19 daughter. I'm not sure you heard about this story.
01:01:20 --> 01:01:23 So long story short, this happened, I believe, in Georgia.
01:01:24 --> 01:01:27 There's a black lady and she's married to a white man.
01:01:28 --> 01:01:32 And they have two, I believe, two biracial sons.
01:01:32 --> 01:01:34 And, You know, of course, the sons kind of look like, you know,
01:01:34 --> 01:01:36 I guess typical mixed children.
01:01:37 --> 01:01:44 But then she also has a daughter where she had the IVF and this daughter who is about two.
01:01:45 --> 01:01:50 And this daughter looks white. Her skin is completely white.
01:01:51 --> 01:01:55 Her hair is, you know, blind. I wish I could say she had blue eyes,
01:01:55 --> 01:01:56 but it looks like she had brown eyes.
01:01:57 --> 01:01:59 So the mother was saying that.
01:02:00 --> 01:02:07 Often when she goes places with a daughter that she gets a lot of inappropriate comments.
01:02:07 --> 01:02:11 So people will start eavesdropping on her and the daughter's conversation,
01:02:12 --> 01:02:13 trying to figure out what's going on.
01:02:14 --> 01:02:18 People will say things like, oh, are you the nanny?
01:02:18 --> 01:02:22 You know, what what are you doing with that white baby? You know, who are you?
01:02:22 --> 01:02:26 So she'd been accused so much that
01:02:26 --> 01:02:29 she felt the need to get a dna test just to prove to
01:02:29 --> 01:02:33 be able to prove to people in the public that that was her daughter now
01:02:33 --> 01:02:38 i'm assuming this is an alias for the daughter but the article references the
01:02:38 --> 01:02:46 daughter's name as pudge pudge i'm not sure why yeah pudge pudge so but you
01:02:46 --> 01:02:52 know long story short if well for anyone listening and you know when you get a chance,
01:02:52 --> 01:02:57 just take a look at the picture because the daughter is definitely 100% white looking.
01:02:58 --> 01:03:02 And, you know, this lady has gone through a lot, you know, a lot of,
01:03:02 --> 01:03:06 she received a lot of online hate, a lot of online criticism.
01:03:07 --> 01:03:13 So I'm not sure if either of you have ever, you know, seen parents that don't
01:03:13 --> 01:03:15 look like their children. Oh, you said you have?
01:03:15 --> 01:03:19 Oh yeah yeah yeah definitely yeah yeah so
01:03:19 --> 01:03:21 i mean you know i i think this is something that she's going through
01:03:21 --> 01:03:24 but you know it's a shame that she's been getting a lot of hate
01:03:24 --> 01:03:27 for this just because and i mean to be honest i can't lie
01:03:27 --> 01:03:32 when i saw the picture i i never would have put it together and and even with
01:03:32 --> 01:03:37 hearing she got the dna test i still want to put it together but and i'm not
01:03:37 --> 01:03:43 sure if you have any experience with maybe people you know who have been you
01:03:43 --> 01:03:47 know maybe their kids don't look like the parents, parents don't look like the kids,
01:03:47 --> 01:03:50 and they catch a certain amount of heat for it.
01:03:51 --> 01:03:56 I'll say, first of all, I'm not, if I know I pushed the baby up out of here.
01:03:57 --> 01:03:59 I was thinking the big thing. I was thinking the big thing.
01:04:00 --> 01:04:02 You know what I'm going to show you? I'm going to show you the stretch mark
01:04:02 --> 01:04:05 right here. I'm going to show you how this, I grew this.
01:04:05 --> 01:04:09 Anyway, but you know, it reminds, it's a movie and I thank my mom for always
01:04:09 --> 01:04:11 making us watch certain things.
01:04:11 --> 01:04:15 It's a movie called Imitation of Life. Oh, I knew you were going there.
01:04:15 --> 01:04:18 I knew you were going there. And this is like the same scenario.
01:04:19 --> 01:04:22 The lady, she was black. black she had a daughter by
01:04:22 --> 01:04:25 a white guy but the daughter resembled the dad he was
01:04:25 --> 01:04:28 she was very fair-skinned very white you know and people
01:04:28 --> 01:04:31 thought the mom was the nanny and this that and the third and the girl
01:04:31 --> 01:04:34 like kind of shunned away from her mom you know taking a
01:04:34 --> 01:04:37 different route of the story but she shunned away from mom because she didn't
01:04:37 --> 01:04:40 want to be known as that's being her mom and her mom was black but
01:04:40 --> 01:04:44 it just immediately took me to that movie but
01:04:44 --> 01:04:47 like i said i'm there's no way i'm not proving
01:04:47 --> 01:04:50 anything to anybody yeah it's a lot of people that
01:04:50 --> 01:04:53 sit behind this computer here and go just like this twitter fingers
01:04:53 --> 01:04:56 that that's all they do and that's all they're good for you know
01:04:56 --> 01:04:59 what i'm saying so what you eat don't
01:04:59 --> 01:05:02 make me poop so i ain't got time for you that's how i see things
01:05:02 --> 01:05:06 like i'm not proving anything to anybody and i haven't known any friends that
01:05:06 --> 01:05:10 had any issues like that but this right here is ridiculous that is she even
01:05:10 --> 01:05:14 took it as far as to get a dna test because guess what people still gonna talk
01:05:14 --> 01:05:19 oh yeah you're gonna keep put the DNA test in their face like your arm won't
01:05:19 --> 01:05:21 get tired like let them talk.
01:05:23 --> 01:05:26 Yeah I don't I don't understand why she felt
01:05:26 --> 01:05:32 that she had to do the DNA test because even with having that proof that that
01:05:32 --> 01:05:37 child is yours people still gonna talk people still gonna say the same thing
01:05:37 --> 01:05:40 I mean you can't what you gonna carry that around you gonna have a tattoo on
01:05:40 --> 01:05:45 your chest or something saying hey this child is mine it proves it on the DNA test
01:05:46 --> 01:05:50 you know you're gonna go you're gonna be like a slave you're gonna carry your papers ask free.
01:05:51 --> 01:05:57 I know i know that it just makes no sense that's that's the insecure that's
01:05:57 --> 01:06:01 you know she might have some insecurities she might have it might be a number
01:06:01 --> 01:06:06 of things going on with her that she felt that she had to do that but you know most of us,
01:06:07 --> 01:06:09 you know, that's our child. We ain't going to, we, you know,
01:06:09 --> 01:06:11 nobody's going to be able to tell us that ain't our child.
01:06:12 --> 01:06:15 That's our child. Even in that movie, The Invitational Life,
01:06:15 --> 01:06:19 my mom made me watch that movie when I was five years old. I'll never forget it.
01:06:19 --> 01:06:25 And that movie, even in that movie, even after that young lady tried not to,
01:06:25 --> 01:06:29 you know, tried to deny her mother and try to act like she didn't know her mother,
01:06:29 --> 01:06:32 that mother still loved her and still claimed her, you know?
01:06:32 --> 01:06:36 So So there's no way you could tell me that this is not my child.
01:06:36 --> 01:06:44 And I'm not going out and getting papers, DNA tests to prove it if I know that's my child. Yeah, no way.
01:06:44 --> 01:06:48 So, Dave, you said you've seen the movie, right?
01:06:48 --> 01:06:52 Yeah. So I'm sure, you know, there are two versions. So I know you've seen the black and white.
01:06:54 --> 01:07:00 Mine was in color. Mine was in color. We are not the same.
01:07:01 --> 01:07:04 I saw both versions yes yes yes
01:07:04 --> 01:07:07 yes yeah the original i saw
01:07:07 --> 01:07:10 the original one because yes like i said i saw it when
01:07:10 --> 01:07:13 i was like five years old my mom made us watch that
01:07:13 --> 01:07:17 movie man yes and that's the only movie that i can watch today that i still
01:07:17 --> 01:07:22 cry like everybody cries everybody everybody cries when you look at that movie
01:07:22 --> 01:07:26 if you watch that whole movie and you feel the pain that that mother has yeah
01:07:26 --> 01:07:30 you're gonna cry you're gonna cry leonard you never seen it No, I'm not.
01:07:31 --> 01:07:37 Oh, you need to see it. Look for the one. It's Imitation of Life with Lana Turner and Juanita.
01:07:38 --> 01:07:41 He ain't going to watch it. He ain't going to watch it. I might.
01:07:42 --> 01:07:45 Ain't no telling. You heard him, right? They,
01:07:46 --> 01:07:53 Never mind. I'm not even going to say the year. I'm like, Jesus. Oh, damn. TV was out.
01:07:54 --> 01:07:59 What y'all watching that? Yeah, anyway. You know, you people don't like to watch
01:07:59 --> 01:08:01 black and white movies. That's the problem.
01:08:01 --> 01:08:04 You know, so you don't have to watch the black and white. I know.
01:08:05 --> 01:08:06 Yeah, watch the one in color, you know.
01:08:07 --> 01:08:12 All right. Anyway, go to it. I was going to say, it looks like the one in color came out 2000.
01:08:13 --> 01:08:16 Is this 2014? No. Sorry, that's the wrong one. No, no.
01:08:18 --> 01:08:23 The one in color came out in the 60s, I think, or 70s, right?
01:08:24 --> 01:08:27 Yes, it's still older. Yeah, 54, something like that.
01:08:27 --> 01:08:32 Yeah. Well, that was the original, right? Yeah, the original. I see it here.
01:08:33 --> 01:08:36 Okay. All right. Make sure you watch it, Leonard. Okay? All right.
01:08:36 --> 01:08:39 I'll check it out. Anyway. All right.
01:08:41 --> 01:08:44 Leonard, you're crazy. All right. this last
01:08:44 --> 01:08:50 this last story this last thing i want to ask you guys opinion about so i don't
01:08:50 --> 01:08:54 know if you can see this screen i'm going to read i'm going to read the list
01:08:54 --> 01:08:59 here but and especially with you both of you guys but especially and i want
01:08:59 --> 01:09:01 to get your opinion of this i listed,
01:09:02 --> 01:09:05 the group female singers that are
01:09:05 --> 01:09:12 you know pretty well known now i'm not going back too far you know but now okay
01:09:12 --> 01:09:19 and i want you to tell me i want both of you to tell me your favorite six out
01:09:19 --> 01:09:23 of this group okay all right so.
01:09:24 --> 01:09:28 We got Chloe, I kind of split them up, Chloe and Hallie.
01:09:28 --> 01:09:36 We got Ari Lennox, Norman Lee, Jennifer Hudson, SZA, Summer Walker,
01:09:37 --> 01:09:42 Doja Cat, LMA, is it LMA? Yeah, LMA.
01:09:43 --> 01:09:50 Her, Jaheen Aiko, Lizzo, and Jasmine Sullivan.
01:09:51 --> 01:09:54 Okay. so that's those are
01:09:54 --> 01:09:56 your choices those are some of the well some of
01:09:56 --> 01:10:01 them what i'm looking at says beyond you didn't say beyonce alicia keys oh yeah
01:10:01 --> 01:10:06 leonard left oh leonard you left some of the names off man hold on i should
01:10:06 --> 01:10:11 have known not to trust you okay you left some of the names off okay they they
01:10:11 --> 01:10:16 they they're right on here you you messed it well well they cut off my mind okay i see it now. Okay.
01:10:16 --> 01:10:21 Beyonce, Alisa Keyes, Kalani, what are the other ones? Okay. Okay.
01:10:22 --> 01:10:24 All right. So give me your top six out of that group.
01:10:25 --> 01:10:29 And you can go by numbers. You can go by numbers. If you want to go from top
01:10:29 --> 01:10:31 to bottom or bottom to top.
01:10:32 --> 01:10:33 I'll go top to bottom.
01:10:34 --> 01:10:38 Okay, go ahead. I'm going to go with Jasmine Sullivan at the top.
01:10:39 --> 01:10:43 I'm going to... I had a feeling you would say that, by the way.
01:10:44 --> 01:10:47 I don't see Kiki Wyatt on here. I think she should have been on there.
01:10:47 --> 01:10:50 No, no, no. I didn't put Kiki on there. No, no, no.
01:10:51 --> 01:10:57 Because we're talking about vocals. Yeah, but I'm talking about everything else.
01:10:57 --> 01:10:58 Her vocals can't be denied.
01:10:59 --> 01:11:02 Okay, you're right. You're right. You're right. So if you want to put her on your list, you can.
01:11:03 --> 01:11:08 Yeah, she's on my list. So I got Jasmine. I got Kiki. I take Jennifer Hudson as well.
01:11:09 --> 01:11:13 Alicia Keys has always been one of my picks only because I feel as though she
01:11:13 --> 01:11:15 was so underrated when she first came out.
01:11:16 --> 01:11:20 I'll go with her okay and
01:11:20 --> 01:11:27 i like scissor not for her vocals but just for her music okay wait hold on so
01:11:27 --> 01:11:32 who's your number one my number one is jasmine jasmine okay all right jasmine's
01:11:32 --> 01:11:38 number one okay yeah okay all right all right that's pretty eclectic group okay all right,
01:11:39 --> 01:11:43 let's see what leonard says go ahead leonard all right in no particular order
01:11:43 --> 01:11:48 yeah i knew you're gonna say that okay so i'm gonna go beyonce.
01:11:52 --> 01:12:02 So beyonce scissor alicia keys janea aiko jasmine sullivan so i mean that right
01:12:02 --> 01:12:05 there's my five and i may say,
01:12:08 --> 01:12:11 that right there in fact i'm like happy to five,
01:12:13 --> 01:12:18 this is what i do i mean i'm saying you're talking about my favorite like i
01:12:18 --> 01:12:22 like i i can't pick favorites from non-favorites you know i mean okay all right
01:12:22 --> 01:12:26 all right whatever okay there you go all right dave let's see who you got all
01:12:26 --> 01:12:30 right no lizzo her come on definitely,
01:12:32 --> 01:12:35 How are you going to name my group? How are you going to name my group?
01:12:36 --> 01:12:40 Don't let you're six name. No, no, no. Not by six.
01:12:41 --> 01:12:44 But, okay, I'm going to go from bottom to top.
01:12:45 --> 01:12:50 And believe it or not, Lizzo is number six for me. And I'm going to say this. I called it.
01:12:51 --> 01:12:57 I'm going to say this. Lizzo has, Lizzo can sing. And I like her passion about her singing.
01:12:58 --> 01:13:01 Okay? Even though she has all the other stuff going on. But I like it.
01:13:02 --> 01:13:05 And scratching your head. That's all I got to say. She's scratching your head.
01:13:06 --> 01:13:11 Yeah, I know. But anyway, I just said it, okay? Okay. My number five was her.
01:13:12 --> 01:13:14 Number four was Beyonce.
01:13:15 --> 01:13:19 Number three was Jasmine Solomon.
01:13:20 --> 01:13:25 Number two was Alicia Keys. And my number one, because I just think when this
01:13:25 --> 01:13:28 girl sings, nobody can sing with her. Jennifer Hudson.
01:13:29 --> 01:13:38 That's my group okay now see i'm proplexed when it comes to beyonce because i like the old beyonce,
01:13:38 --> 01:13:41 yeah i don't like the new music i'll be honest with you i like
01:13:41 --> 01:13:44 the old beyonce too yes so that and i i
01:13:44 --> 01:13:49 always felt that beyonce was overrated because to
01:13:49 --> 01:13:52 me kelly is a great singer but she just never got recognized because she was
01:13:52 --> 01:13:57 in a group where beyonce was the star you feel what i'm saying but i just think
01:13:57 --> 01:14:02 beyonce is way overrated and i don't know i'll probably have to sacrifice a
01:14:02 --> 01:14:08 goat after i say that because it's beyonce but the internet hearing right.
01:14:09 --> 01:14:12 Even on top of that her dad was a manager so
01:14:12 --> 01:14:15 of course of course beyonce gonna shine well i
01:14:15 --> 01:14:22 mean nothing else her earlier years like when she sings when she sings regular
01:14:22 --> 01:14:28 songs instead of the stuff that she does now i think she can hold her own but
01:14:28 --> 01:14:34 a lot of she's become so commercialized now it's you know and she's looking for,
01:14:35 --> 01:14:38 you know the stuff i mean the whole country album thing
01:14:38 --> 01:14:41 was interesting to me because those country
01:14:41 --> 01:14:45 folks saw right through what she was trying to do and you
01:14:45 --> 01:14:48 know she wasn't she wasn't nominated for any awards or any
01:14:48 --> 01:14:51 of that stuff because they knew what she was doing it was a money grab for her
01:14:51 --> 01:14:57 you know so but i have her on my list because she she can sing when she wants
01:14:57 --> 01:15:03 to but my favorite on that list and i love jasmine solomon too so i that girl
01:15:03 --> 01:15:05 has so much talent she really does,
01:15:06 --> 01:15:10 but jennifer hudson i could sit there and listen to jennifer hudson there all
01:15:10 --> 01:15:17 day long i really can't so so that's my number one so and and latrice is on
01:15:17 --> 01:15:20 my list too he's number seven don't try to butter me up.
01:15:22 --> 01:15:28 She's number seven she's number seven major top 70 list leave me alone Dave,
01:15:30 --> 01:15:34 Ann said you put Lizzo above her. She said that's a no-no. Yeah!
01:15:35 --> 01:15:39 She better go play her. Wait, hold on. You don't like Lizzo?
01:15:40 --> 01:15:43 I didn't say I didn't like her, but I don't see it. I don't consider...
01:15:44 --> 01:15:48 Her vocals don't do it for me. Her vocals don't do it for you.
01:15:48 --> 01:15:51 Okay. No, her vocals don't do it. I thought she had a powerful voice.
01:15:52 --> 01:15:55 You know, I mean... Yeah, okay.
01:15:56 --> 01:15:59 Okay when you when you have a list right in front of
01:15:59 --> 01:16:02 me and you have singers on that list lizzo doesn't
01:16:02 --> 01:16:05 qualify okay well hold on
01:16:05 --> 01:16:10 so and with that said who are your favorite let's let's say your favorite five
01:16:10 --> 01:16:15 singers oh i already know where this is you are first up dave you know me who's
01:16:15 --> 01:16:23 my number one i already know i already know with the houston is number one good with the Then,
01:16:24 --> 01:16:26 I mean, you got Aretha Franklin, of course.
01:16:26 --> 01:16:30 I even put Tina Marie on there, to be honest. Wow, that's my favorite,
01:16:31 --> 01:16:33 by the way. And then there's...
01:16:34 --> 01:16:37 Jesus that anita baker you can't like
01:16:37 --> 01:16:40 anything anita baker sings our songs are just
01:16:40 --> 01:16:43 so melodic and just takes you somewhere so
01:16:43 --> 01:16:46 i'll definitely go anita baker i'll only
01:16:46 --> 01:16:50 give you four i really like when i think of phenomenal singers
01:16:50 --> 01:16:54 that's that's where i'm stuck but nobody's
01:16:54 --> 01:16:56 gonna ever stop whitney whitney is my no it's always gonna
01:16:56 --> 01:17:00 be with you you know because i'm posting
01:17:00 --> 01:17:05 in my story i put whitney music to it i already
01:17:05 --> 01:17:09 know i already know that's her thing yeah that's whitney and
01:17:09 --> 01:17:13 nobody sings like her i mean you know she does look first of all they tell you
01:17:13 --> 01:17:19 if you're a singer and you attempt to sing whitney you better be able to sing
01:17:19 --> 01:17:28 right don't do it if you can't sing because you're going to a quick story so when i did my debut show.
01:17:28 --> 01:17:31 I did like a Miss Ann debut show with Best Kept Soul.
01:17:31 --> 01:17:34 And that was at the French Quarter. And this is, like I said,
01:17:34 --> 01:17:40 I'm still learning bands and I want to sing all the big songs. Right?
01:17:40 --> 01:17:45 Now, mind you, this is at the end of the night and I picked these 10 big powerhouse
01:17:45 --> 01:17:48 songs to sing and I Will Always Love You was my last song to sing.
01:17:49 --> 01:17:53 Why did I do that? This is how you learn. Wow.
01:17:54 --> 01:17:58 It's the difference between singing karaoke and singing with a band.
01:17:59 --> 01:18:01 I think I sounded like DMX.
01:18:02 --> 01:18:06 Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:18:06 --> 01:18:09 And I want to say it's a video out there somewhere that I'm still trying to
01:18:09 --> 01:18:10 find in Berlin. Oh, Lord.
01:18:14 --> 01:18:22 But that was a learning process. Okay. Yeah, we already know where that was going, so. Yeah.
01:18:24 --> 01:18:28 Lessons learned. There you go. There you go. All right.
01:18:28 --> 01:18:35 Well, that brings us to our last part of the show, which is Leonard's favorite part of the show.
01:18:35 --> 01:18:38 It's called Dave's Corner. It's Leonard's favorite part of the show, though.
01:18:39 --> 01:18:44 This is where we ask philosophical questions. Everybody, we always have our
01:18:44 --> 01:18:48 guests answer and, you know, give your answers to this question.
01:18:49 --> 01:18:50 So the Dave's question is,
01:18:51 --> 01:18:57 What are three things that you've done that people will remember you about,
01:18:57 --> 01:19:01 which you could say will be your legacy when you're gone?
01:19:02 --> 01:19:04 Let's start with you, Anne.
01:19:05 --> 01:19:10 I'll say at the top, my three sons, my amazing children.
01:19:11 --> 01:19:16 They are exceptional young men. I think I did pretty well.
01:19:16 --> 01:19:22 Never been in the system. You know, I refuse to let them fall into that category
01:19:22 --> 01:19:25 of, you know, a typical black male standard.
01:19:25 --> 01:19:29 So that's one thing that I'm very proud of with the help of the village, of course.
01:19:30 --> 01:19:37 I will say known for utilizing my platform for good and to help others grow.
01:19:39 --> 01:19:45 And I would just say my work ethic altogether, which resonates through my children as well.
01:19:45 --> 01:19:50 So it's something that I'll continue to live on because they see when how I'm
01:19:50 --> 01:19:54 determined to work and make things work and, you know, get to where I need to
01:19:54 --> 01:19:59 be and just put forth that good work mentality and let that speak for itself.
01:19:59 --> 01:20:03 So my kids, my platform usage and work ethic.
01:20:04 --> 01:20:10 OK, that's good. That's good. All right. Leonard, your answer to that question. Sure.
01:20:10 --> 01:20:15 So for me, I feel like kind of like Ann said, my number one would probably be my kids.
01:20:15 --> 01:20:21 You know, just hopefully I set that legacy where, you know, they know they don't
01:20:21 --> 01:20:23 give a damn about nothing right now. That's for damn sure.
01:20:24 --> 01:20:29 But hopefully later when, you know, when when they think about stuff,
01:20:29 --> 01:20:31 you know, that would be that legacy.
01:20:32 --> 01:20:36 Also i probably say delawareblack.com just
01:20:36 --> 01:20:39 because it's going on 20 years and it's been a
01:20:39 --> 01:20:41 long time and a lot of stuff we tried to do was
01:20:41 --> 01:20:45 stuff that people weren't doing at the time and then
01:20:45 --> 01:20:51 the last thing i think would just be you know not being afraid to try different
01:20:51 --> 01:20:55 stuff you know i think as an entrepreneur a lot of people always try to you
01:20:55 --> 01:21:01 know cram into the same lane and you know i I feel like what a lot of what I've
01:21:01 --> 01:21:04 done or tried to do is just different.
01:21:04 --> 01:21:07 I don't know. Maybe my mind thinks different on some stuff, but,
01:21:07 --> 01:21:12 you know, I just never wanted to do the same thing everyone else did or does.
01:21:14 --> 01:21:18 All right. Yep. David, David, what about you? What are three things that you've
01:21:18 --> 01:21:25 done that people will remember you and or your legacy when you are gone? Feeling money.
01:21:27 --> 01:21:31 I'm sorry. I have to rent.
01:21:32 --> 01:21:37 Hopefully people won't know that. But, you know, you keep saying it through
01:21:37 --> 01:21:39 the show, but that's a whole different story.
01:21:39 --> 01:21:41 We got to edit that part, Leonard. Anyway. Right.
01:21:42 --> 01:21:46 No. And of course, all of us said that the very first thing that you guys said
01:21:46 --> 01:21:50 is the very first thing I'm going to say, too, is being a father and my children,
01:21:50 --> 01:21:57 you know, being especially being able to see them all become very successful in what they do.
01:21:57 --> 01:22:01 And just knowing that I had something to do with that. And, you know,
01:22:02 --> 01:22:06 you know, the fact that they allow, you know, that I would say God allowed me
01:22:06 --> 01:22:08 to be their father. I'm gonna put it that way.
01:22:09 --> 01:22:18 So that's one thing. Another thing is having the chance to be a promoter, event planner,
01:22:19 --> 01:22:23 and be in marketing and so forth and getting a chance to meet so many different
01:22:23 --> 01:22:26 people and work with so many different people,
01:22:27 --> 01:22:34 people like our guests that we have on tonight and Best Kept Soul and being
01:22:34 --> 01:22:39 able to have a relationship with them and be able to work with them for the years that I did.
01:22:39 --> 01:22:42 And also, you know, people like
01:22:42 --> 01:22:47 people like Tracy and Cynthia and all the people that Ann has mentioned.
01:22:47 --> 01:22:50 Of course, I have relationships with them as well.
01:22:50 --> 01:22:54 You know, you know, Ann and Leonard, you know, all of you guys,
01:22:54 --> 01:23:00 you know, being able, all of that came about is because of being in that promotions
01:23:00 --> 01:23:06 and event planning thing that, you know, got me interlocked with everybody.
01:23:06 --> 01:23:10 So that is something that I will hold near and dear.
01:23:10 --> 01:23:12 Also, the last thing would be.
01:23:14 --> 01:23:20 Being in a position to be a leader and to be able to, you know, just have,
01:23:20 --> 01:23:26 be a mentor to people and be able to help people when they need help in certain
01:23:26 --> 01:23:32 areas and just being there for them when they need guidance and so forth.
01:23:32 --> 01:23:37 I've been fortunate enough to be put in that position, you know,
01:23:37 --> 01:23:43 and helping people in those kind of ways. And I really appreciate the fact that
01:23:43 --> 01:23:46 people look to me in that in that respect.
01:23:46 --> 01:23:48 And I hope that, you know, when
01:23:48 --> 01:23:52 I'm not here anymore, that those are the things that people talk about.
01:23:53 --> 01:23:58 And, you know, hopefully that my children, you know, when people have a conversation
01:23:58 --> 01:24:01 with my children, they said, well, your father was this. Your father was that.
01:24:01 --> 01:24:05 And they'll forgive me for stealing the money that he's mentioning.
01:24:05 --> 01:24:08 And you know so so
01:24:08 --> 01:24:11 but that's those are my things there those are
01:24:11 --> 01:24:14 the things that i will say those is
01:24:14 --> 01:24:20 that's it right there all right so thank you guys for answering that question
01:24:20 --> 01:24:26 for me and so ann we're going to give you another chance to talk about the event
01:24:26 --> 01:24:32 here before we sign off talk about the big event coming up the 15-year anniversary
01:24:32 --> 01:24:34 go ahead and and talk about it again.
01:24:36 --> 01:24:38 Absolutely so the event of the year is going to
01:24:38 --> 01:24:41 be bigger than new year's trust me november the

01:25:29 --> 01:25:31 No, no, no, no. No.
01:25:33 --> 01:25:38 So if you're going, coming out of downtown Wilmington, like you're going on to the north side.
01:25:38 --> 01:25:42 Yeah. Like, you know, a Reed's refuge is. Right. Right. So, you know,
01:25:42 --> 01:25:44 when you get to that point, there's Reed's refuge.
01:25:44 --> 01:25:49 You got to go off to this side, but you can't go to the, to the left because it's a one way street.
01:25:49 --> 01:25:54 Yeah. If you look to the left before you go up to Reed's Refuge,
01:25:54 --> 01:26:00 it's a building that sits down in like a little valley area and it sits off that water.
01:26:01 --> 01:26:07 Yeah, okay. I'm trying to remember. It's hidden. It's a black gate.
01:26:07 --> 01:26:09 You can't get in there unless you know somebody that knows somebody.
01:26:09 --> 01:26:10 Like, it's kept so old. Right.
01:26:13 --> 01:26:17 Didn't something used to be there before? I think it's... I don't know.
01:26:18 --> 01:26:22 I don't know. I don't know. But it's like this big open space.
01:26:22 --> 01:26:24 It's an art gallery she has there now.
01:26:25 --> 01:26:30 But she opens up the event space for gatherings and all that good stuff.
01:26:30 --> 01:26:33 So and who is this off well i think
01:26:33 --> 01:26:36 her name is aaron okay i can't remember her
01:26:36 --> 01:26:39 last name all right okay i was

01:26:47 --> 01:26:51 everybody was trying to figure out you know where it was so yeah because you
01:26:51 --> 01:26:58 have you have ai children the AI Nemoirs Children's Clinic on Jessup Street. Right, right.
01:26:59 --> 01:27:03 So if you're coming off Pine Street and coming like you're going back downtown
01:27:03 --> 01:27:08 Wilmington, you're going to pass the AI Children's Clinic, which is going to
01:27:08 --> 01:27:12 be on your left-hand side, and on the right is when you'll see the Dahlia.
01:27:13 --> 01:27:18 Okay. Once you pass the Nemoirs. Okay, I think I know where you're talking about.
01:27:18 --> 01:27:22 I was thinking it was over there by but no, it's not over that way. Okay.
