00:00:31 --> 00:00:34 Welcome, welcome, welcome to News and Trends with Dave and Lynn.
00:00:34 --> 00:00:38 This is one of your hosts, Mr. David Coker, proprietor of Dave Mark,
00:00:38 --> 00:00:42 Inc., promoter, event planner, and all-around good guy.
00:00:43 --> 00:00:47 We are being brought to you on the MBG Podcast Network.
00:00:48 --> 00:00:52 Please check us out and all the other great shows that's on that network.
00:00:52 --> 00:00:56 I'm hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young. What's going on, sir?
00:00:57 --> 00:01:01 Hey, Dave. Everything is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black
00:01:01 --> 00:01:07 Guide, DelawareBlack.com, black media specialist and all-around good guy. How goes it, Dave?
00:01:08 --> 00:01:13 Hey, man. Can't complain. Can't complain. It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood.
00:01:13 --> 00:01:17 Won't you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor, I guess. You actually,
00:01:17 --> 00:01:18 I guess you actually are.
00:01:19 --> 00:01:27 But anyway, so we are here today after the aftermath of the weekend snow.
00:01:28 --> 00:01:32 Well, I mean, I guess we are getting some snow this winter, I guess.
00:01:32 --> 00:01:37 Yeah. Oh, you know, we're definitely getting it. We have definitely gotten it.
00:01:37 --> 00:01:40 Yeah. Yeah. We definitely have gotten some snow this winter.
00:01:40 --> 00:01:44 Or I guess it's saying, but as long as we don't, well, I don't know.
00:01:44 --> 00:01:47 Do we really want that real big snow? No.
00:01:47 --> 00:01:52 No, we don't. We don't. On a day, not unless it comes during the week.
00:01:52 --> 00:01:55 Like come Monday through Friday. Yeah. Well, yeah. Monday through Thursday.
00:01:56 --> 00:02:01 That works better for us and especially for people like me that work for the
00:02:01 --> 00:02:05 state because that means we may not have to go to work. So, you know. Right.
00:02:06 --> 00:02:11 Yeah. So, but anyway, yeah, it's been, the weather's been, and not only has
00:02:11 --> 00:02:15 it been snowy, it's been cold too. That's another story too. So, uh.
00:02:16 --> 00:02:21 But, and the weather's been, I think we mentioned it last podcast,
00:02:21 --> 00:02:24 so the weather's been kind of funky all over the place, you know,
00:02:24 --> 00:02:26 down south, on the west coast.
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 I mean, you know, it's just been kind of weird.
00:02:29 --> 00:02:33 And places that normally would be warm this time of year have been cold.
00:02:34 --> 00:02:38 You know, so people wearing jackets and stuff in places that they normally,
00:02:39 --> 00:02:43 you know, don't wear them doing this time of year. So it's just real interesting.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:46 Of course, you know, we talked about global warming last week.
00:02:46 --> 00:02:53 So we definitely have some kind of, some kind of proof that there is something
00:02:53 --> 00:02:55 definitely going on in the atmosphere here. Right.
00:02:56 --> 00:02:59 So, but we are coming to you today.
00:03:00 --> 00:03:07 We wanted to, we, we actually took it upon ourselves to, you know,
00:03:07 --> 00:03:09 for those who know, who have been listening to the show,
00:03:10 --> 00:03:16 you know, we pre-report the show and we decided to do something a little different, different today.
00:03:16 --> 00:03:23 Which was to record today, Tuesday night show, which you normally,
00:03:24 --> 00:03:27 when you would hear it, on Martin Luther King Day.
00:03:27 --> 00:03:34 So we can, you know, because of everything that's going on, everything that he stood for.
00:03:34 --> 00:03:38 And of course, you know, we got the backdrop of the inauguration going on.
00:03:39 --> 00:03:42 You know, we wanted to make sure
00:03:42 --> 00:03:45 that we did it on this day
00:03:45 --> 00:03:48 to as opposed to what's going on with down
00:03:48 --> 00:03:54 there in washington as far as the new president and everything is going on we
00:03:54 --> 00:04:01 wanted to do something to show solidarity with martin luther king day and so
00:04:01 --> 00:04:08 we're instead of doing our normally tuesday recording we decided to do today so.
00:04:09 --> 00:04:14 Anything you want to add to that, Mr. Young? I mean, I just agree.
00:04:14 --> 00:04:17 I think, Dave, this is a very monumental day.
00:04:18 --> 00:04:22 And kind of like we said before, this year, there's so many conflicting events.
00:04:22 --> 00:04:29 We wanted to make sure that we kind of celebrated and mentioned this day on this day. Right, right.
00:04:30 --> 00:04:33 It's been interesting leading up to this.
00:04:33 --> 00:04:36 And it's funny because I was telling Leonard, you know,
00:04:37 --> 00:04:43 it was a text and emails going out in reference to people banning,
00:04:44 --> 00:04:50 watching the inauguration and everything that was going on today and so forth.
00:04:50 --> 00:04:56 And, you know, to show solidarity in that because it is Martin Luther King.
00:04:56 --> 00:04:58 We're celebrating Martin Luther King's birthday today.
00:05:00 --> 00:05:06 And, you know, fortunately, the inauguration fell on the same day.
00:05:06 --> 00:05:11 It seemed like they could have, you know, I'm sure if it was,
00:05:12 --> 00:05:15 and of course we can't say for sure, but I'm just kind of thinking if it was
00:05:15 --> 00:05:20 President Obama or maybe even President Clinton or one of the other guys,
00:05:20 --> 00:05:24 They might have said, can we push it back one day, you know,
00:05:24 --> 00:05:28 just to let King have to shine because it is his holiday?
00:05:29 --> 00:05:31 Sure, they probably would have thought that way. But, of course,
00:05:31 --> 00:05:35 the current administration, of course, is a me, me, me administration.
00:05:36 --> 00:05:39 So, you know, we know that they're not thinking that way.
00:05:40 --> 00:05:44 All they're thinking about is having the light shine on them as they take office, you know.
00:05:45 --> 00:05:47 So that's just my opinion.
00:05:48 --> 00:05:54 So you know case everybody's saying is that Leonard's opinion no it's my opinion.
00:05:56 --> 00:06:01 Dave that is definitely your opinion that's for sure I know you would agree
00:06:01 --> 00:06:05 with that so but anyway so we just wanted to take,
00:06:07 --> 00:06:10 take the time to you know you
00:06:10 --> 00:06:13 know to just do something a little bit different we actually we
00:06:13 --> 00:06:18 never done this before so we decided to go ahead and do it today so so happy
00:06:18 --> 00:06:23 martin luther king birthday celebration who those that are having celebration
00:06:23 --> 00:06:27 i think you mentioned earlier to me that you went to a celebration this morning
00:06:27 --> 00:06:33 i did yeah so and you want to talk a little bit about that?
00:06:33 --> 00:06:41 Yeah. So, I mean, it was just a local rally hosted by a community activist slash
00:06:41 --> 00:06:45 Black media person named Jaquem Mohamed.
00:06:45 --> 00:06:48 And it was just a rally, just kind of remembering the principles,
00:06:48 --> 00:06:52 values, and really the dream of Martin Luther King.
00:06:53 --> 00:06:55 So, I mean, that's pretty much what it was.
00:06:55 --> 00:06:58 Short to the point, because, you know, Dave, it was a little
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 cold out there and it was early in the morning so
00:07:01 --> 00:07:07 of course you know wanted to respect people's uh time and safety yeah it was
00:07:07 --> 00:07:15 outside oh oh yeah yeah yeah okay all right and and Dave you know so funny because
00:07:15 --> 00:07:18 uh the guy was like yeah I know it's cold so we're gonna get ready to wrap up
00:07:18 --> 00:07:19 and in my mind I was thinking,
00:07:20 --> 00:07:23 you know I'd be at the campground outside almost all day
00:07:23 --> 00:07:25 so you know I really understand that when
00:07:25 --> 00:07:31 people get used to the cold weather because i would like to think what some
00:07:31 --> 00:07:37 people think is cold mail isn't you know i i think i'd like to think i've acclimated
00:07:37 --> 00:07:42 to some of it because i was okay this morning okay all right okay all right
00:07:42 --> 00:07:45 cool cool well literally cool cool.
00:07:47 --> 00:07:48 Okay,
00:07:49 --> 00:07:53 the weekend didn't you have your comedy show this weekend no so we actually
00:07:53 --> 00:07:56 postponed it because of the weather yeah because you know it would have been
00:07:56 --> 00:08:01 yesterday okay so oh okay all right just thought about that i was wondering
00:08:01 --> 00:08:06 how that went so okay all right okay all right well,
00:08:07 --> 00:08:12 yeah the weather kind of played havoc with a lot of things i'm sure and um except
00:08:12 --> 00:08:14 the eagles game It was great for the Eagles yesterday.
00:08:15 --> 00:08:19 So, way to go, birds. You know, it's funny.
00:08:19 --> 00:08:22 I was sitting, look, we were all sitting on the edge of our seats yesterday
00:08:22 --> 00:08:26 watching that game, man, because that game was, whew, looked like they were
00:08:26 --> 00:08:30 about to give that thing away there for him. I know. It came down to the end.
00:08:31 --> 00:08:37 But, you know, when you, where would they be without number 26?
00:08:38 --> 00:08:42 Because that boy, man. Yeah. Once he gets through that line,
00:08:42 --> 00:08:49 there's no catching him, you know, and so it was good for the Eagles to,
00:08:49 --> 00:08:51 to pull that victory out yesterday.
00:08:53 --> 00:08:57 Unfortunately, the Baltimore Ravens, the other birds didn't do too good yesterday.
00:08:58 --> 00:09:01 They, they, they ended up losing yesterday by two points.
00:09:02 --> 00:09:07 So, you know, the local teams, you know, Baltimore and the Eagles,
00:09:07 --> 00:09:11 you know, we went one and one as far as that's concerned. But we got a D.C.
00:09:11 --> 00:09:15 Team we got to deal with next week. So we'll see how that goes.
00:09:15 --> 00:09:19 So we'll see who goes back to the Super Bowl. Well, let's see who goes to the
00:09:19 --> 00:09:21 Super Bowl. So we'll go that way.
00:09:22 --> 00:09:25 All right. So I guess we'll go ahead and get into our show.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:35 Let's get into the first story talk about crazy stuff that happened over the weekend,
00:09:36 --> 00:09:44 so we had been it had been rumored that tick tock was going to shut down on january the 19th,
00:09:45 --> 00:09:48 and people were losing their mind leonard you
00:09:48 --> 00:09:51 know you know because tick tock has
00:09:51 --> 00:09:56 become like the number one social media site oh
00:09:56 --> 00:09:59 is it number one well i read in
00:09:59 --> 00:10:02 some and i had read that they you know
00:10:02 --> 00:10:05 what's the most popular media site social media
00:10:05 --> 00:10:08 site right now oh wow and people lost
00:10:08 --> 00:10:11 i'm telling you man with all the reaction that people had
00:10:11 --> 00:10:14 over the site shutting down because did you
00:10:14 --> 00:10:17 see when it happened were you were you online when
00:10:17 --> 00:10:20 it happened no in fact what what time did exactly
00:10:20 --> 00:10:22 did it happen it was around because i text you when
00:10:22 --> 00:10:25 it happened it was around 9 30
00:10:25 --> 00:10:28 9 30 10 o'clock is
00:10:28 --> 00:10:34 saturday night so it happened the day before yeah early it actually happened
00:10:34 --> 00:10:40 early i'm sure it happened early because of the time difference from overseas
00:10:40 --> 00:10:43 yeah but they said for america so i would have thought it would have started
00:10:43 --> 00:10:46 with east coast time because not,
00:10:47 --> 00:10:52 oh okay nine o'clock you see what i'm saying yeah well hold on hold on hold on so let's do this math.
00:10:53 --> 00:10:57 So if it's midnight here, it's not.
00:10:57 --> 00:11:01 No, so it should have happened at midnight East Coast time, and that would have
00:11:01 --> 00:11:04 still been 9 p.m. West Coast time.
00:11:05 --> 00:11:11 You know what I mean? It shut down on the East Coast first, I think.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:16 Yeah, so if it shut down on the East Coast at 9, that would have been 6 p.m. West Coast time.
00:11:17 --> 00:11:20 Yeah, but we're not talking about, I'm not talking about West Coast America.
00:11:21 --> 00:11:22 I'm talking about Japan time.
00:11:23 --> 00:11:28 Oh, okay. I mean, China time, right? Is it China? Yeah.
00:11:29 --> 00:11:33 But, you know, China's 12 hours behind, so they would have shut down around
00:11:33 --> 00:11:36 noon. They're 12 hours behind or ahead? 12 hours ahead.
00:11:37 --> 00:11:39 Ahead. So that's probably why it shut down early.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:43 Ah. The day before, because they said the 19th, right?
00:11:44 --> 00:11:52 Well, yeah. But what was so ironic is that 12 hours after shutting down,
00:11:53 --> 00:11:56 It opened back up again. It came back live again.
00:11:57 --> 00:12:00 So here's a little backdrop on what happened. It said,
00:12:00 --> 00:12:05 around 12 hours after shutting itself down in the United States,
00:12:05 --> 00:12:10 TikTok is back for many users, almost like it never left,
00:12:10 --> 00:12:17 attributing its return to a move by President-elect Donald Trump to save the app.
00:12:17 --> 00:12:26 So the whiplash move to return the app comes after TikTok became unusable for
00:12:26 --> 00:12:28 Americans late Saturday night.
00:12:28 --> 00:12:33 Users who tried to open the app were then met with a message saying it was offline
00:12:33 --> 00:12:35 and asking users to stay tuned.
00:12:36 --> 00:12:41 A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the United States. Unfortunately,
00:12:41 --> 00:12:44 that means you can't use TikTok for now.
00:12:44 --> 00:12:47 TikTok message read in parts.
00:12:47 --> 00:12:54 The app was also available on the Apple and Google Play stores,
00:12:54 --> 00:12:59 along with Lemonade and CapCut,
00:12:59 --> 00:13:06 which are also owned by TikTok's China-based parent companies, Buy the Dance.
00:13:06 --> 00:13:11 Early on Sunday, Trump said he would issue an executive order followed by the
00:13:11 --> 00:13:20 inauguration, his inauguration on Monday to delay enforcement of the divestor ban law.
00:13:21 --> 00:13:27 Within hours, U.S. users began to regain access to TikTok's app and webpage.
00:13:28 --> 00:13:35 TikTok's restoration will welcome news for the app's 170 million American users,
00:13:35 --> 00:13:41 many of whom use the app for hours every day to find news, entertainment,
00:13:42 --> 00:13:47 and community, and in some cases, to make a living after weeks of uncertainty.
00:13:49 --> 00:13:53 You know this i mean tiktok is
00:13:53 --> 00:13:55 a very important part of our
00:13:55 --> 00:14:02 lives now because people just like they said people have come to depend on it
00:14:02 --> 00:14:07 and especially the young folks but then people are making a fortune off of tiktok
00:14:07 --> 00:14:13 right now and or they're getting rich off of tiktok and i'm surprised that, you know,
00:14:13 --> 00:14:18 almost every day I read something about somebody who now is a household name
00:14:18 --> 00:14:20 that they got their start on TikTok,
00:14:21 --> 00:14:28 you know, for the leverage that was used to shut it down,
00:14:29 --> 00:14:36 and for Trump to be able to be the cog in getting it open again.
00:14:38 --> 00:14:43 You know, I have my own thoughts on that whole thing. All right, do share, Dave.
00:14:44 --> 00:14:52 Why is it that it seems that this was like a setup for Trump to be the saver to me?
00:14:53 --> 00:14:59 Yeah, I agree. Wait, wait, you said you can't be the oppressor and the savior at the same time?
00:14:59 --> 00:15:05 It just seems to me that this was just done to make him look good.
00:15:06 --> 00:15:15 But, you know, he seems to be in bid with a lot of very powerful leaders outside the United States.
00:15:17 --> 00:15:24 And it seems like everything that, you know, everything seems to be tied to
00:15:24 --> 00:15:28 the decisions that are being made with these leaders.
00:15:29 --> 00:15:34 Like Putin, like, you know, China, like Japan, you know, all these places, man. and all.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:40 You know, I almost wonder, you know, the powers,
00:15:41 --> 00:15:47 you know, you know, I talked about it last week on,
00:15:47 --> 00:15:52 you know, when I was talking about the Malcolm X thing when they were in the
00:15:52 --> 00:15:55 streets and all he did was pointing his finger and the men just started marching
00:15:55 --> 00:16:01 away when the police chief said, you know, get these guys out of here.
00:16:01 --> 00:16:06 Then the next thing the police chief said was that's too much power for one man,
00:16:07 --> 00:16:12 is that where he's trying to go do you think he's just trying to become the most powerful man in,
00:16:12 --> 00:16:15 the world yeah i mean i i think of course he is
00:16:15 --> 00:16:19 because i mean if you think about his projection he's always
00:16:19 --> 00:16:22 been somebody who needed attention needed power
00:16:22 --> 00:16:26 needed media coverage you
00:16:26 --> 00:16:30 know so i don't see that changing this him being president and
00:16:30 --> 00:16:33 and anybody who crosses him he publicly
00:16:33 --> 00:16:36 berates them and they we've
00:16:36 --> 00:16:39 seen that time to time so i'm sure we're going to see more of that
00:16:39 --> 00:16:47 inside and outside of his supporters yeah yeah and and and when you look at
00:16:47 --> 00:16:50 the cabinet that he's built up and you look at the company that he's keeping
00:16:50 --> 00:16:57 of course all these people you know He's got some of the top billionaires in
00:16:57 --> 00:16:58 the country, in the world,
00:16:59 --> 00:17:03 hanging out with him right now and put in certain positions.
00:17:06 --> 00:17:11 He's got money. He's got the money backing. He's got all this other backing.
00:17:11 --> 00:17:18 It's scary to say that this guy is setting himself up to be this czar-like person.
00:17:18 --> 00:17:22 Yeah, he's almost going to be like a dictator, like a Stalin or a Hitler.
00:17:22 --> 00:17:26 Yeah, yeah. And if you try to cross them.
00:17:27 --> 00:17:31 Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. That's exactly what I'm worried about. You know.
00:17:33 --> 00:17:38 You know, it is, I know, I don't know, Dave Chappelle was the host of Saturday
00:17:38 --> 00:17:40 Night Live the other day.
00:17:41 --> 00:17:43 And he did a monologue.
00:17:44 --> 00:17:50 Monologue was pretty good. But at the end of the monologue, you know, he talks about Trump.
00:17:50 --> 00:17:58 And he said, you know, basically, in a nutshell, how worried he was about where
00:17:58 --> 00:18:03 we're going under this new leadership.
00:18:03 --> 00:18:08 And please don't mess it up or don't do what you did before.
00:18:08 --> 00:18:14 You got to be better this time around because, you know, we can't afford for
00:18:14 --> 00:18:16 it to be like it was before.
00:18:16 --> 00:18:19 You know you know he and he
00:18:19 --> 00:18:22 was passionate about what he said you know he was almost
00:18:22 --> 00:18:25 it was almost a plea that he was making when he
00:18:25 --> 00:18:28 said it was pretty deep what he had to say at the end of
00:18:28 --> 00:18:31 his monologue of course he joked about trump and so forth
00:18:31 --> 00:18:34 and he talked he joked about some things but he you
00:18:34 --> 00:18:37 know he's very passionate about you know that he's got
00:18:37 --> 00:18:39 to be better this time around that's what he said
00:18:39 --> 00:18:43 he you he has to be better this time around because
00:18:43 --> 00:18:46 we can't afford for him to come in
00:18:46 --> 00:18:50 with the same mess that he came in with before you know even joked about how
00:18:50 --> 00:18:55 they're doing the inauguration on the inside you know inside the i forget what
00:18:55 --> 00:19:01 room it was but he was and then he said didn't they do this before and they
00:19:01 --> 00:19:03 showed the picture of the the uh insurrection.
00:19:06 --> 00:19:13 Oh that's crazy yeah so but you know this whole thing with tiktok i was speaking
00:19:13 --> 00:19:18 of that and you know the whole the the tiktok and what happened did you talk
00:19:18 --> 00:19:19 to your kids when it went down,
00:19:20 --> 00:19:25 no i i haven't got a chance to i mean you didn't get a chance to talk oh i mean
00:19:25 --> 00:19:28 i i talked to them before and they felt like it wasn't going to happen somebody
00:19:28 --> 00:19:30 was like come save the day,
00:19:30 --> 00:19:36 and before i could even talk to them someone has saved the day oh okay all right
00:19:36 --> 00:19:42 i was just wondering how they, what their thoughts were when it went down.
00:19:42 --> 00:19:44 You know, because.
00:19:46 --> 00:19:49 I mean i can only imagine because it
00:19:49 --> 00:19:53 you know they spend a lot of time on it you know so i was just wondering how
00:19:53 --> 00:19:58 they took it when it went down and you know how fearful people thought it was
00:19:58 --> 00:20:01 going to be down for a long period of time because i was it's funny because
00:20:01 --> 00:20:05 i was at church i was in church when it popped up on my i saw it pop up on my
00:20:05 --> 00:20:07 phone tick tock's back and i was like oh,
00:20:08 --> 00:20:12 that's not already oh hold on so did it give you a notification or how did you
00:20:12 --> 00:20:17 know yeah A notification popped up saying that it was back. Oh, okay.
00:20:18 --> 00:20:24 So, of course, forgive me. I must not be a TikTok faithful because they didn't
00:20:24 --> 00:20:25 send me no notification.
00:20:25 --> 00:20:29 I got the notification, yeah. It was funny.
00:20:29 --> 00:20:32 I was saying, forgive me, Lord, because I was just saying, is it really big?
00:20:32 --> 00:20:36 So I went to the icon and I clicked on it right quick and it came up. And I was like, oh, it is.
00:20:36 --> 00:20:39 So, and I went back, you know, so.
00:20:40 --> 00:20:45 But, yeah, it definitely, yeah. Yeah, I got the notification that it was back.
00:20:45 --> 00:20:47 Yeah. Oh, wow. Okay, that's cool.
00:20:48 --> 00:20:51 Well, hold on a second. How did you feel when it was down?
00:20:51 --> 00:20:56 When you saw it was down, were you crying and emotional and distraught?
00:20:57 --> 00:21:02 Well, you know, there are a couple things that I do look at on TikTok.
00:21:02 --> 00:21:05 I know you're looking at buying some houses, right?
00:21:06 --> 00:21:11 Yeah, down at the campground. Yeah. Yeah. So, but no, there was,
00:21:11 --> 00:21:19 that was a good one. Okay. Anyway.
00:21:21 --> 00:21:21 But.
00:21:24 --> 00:21:29 Folks, if you only knew what he was talking about anyway, but no,
00:21:30 --> 00:21:32 I, there are a couple of things that I do look at on there.
00:21:32 --> 00:21:38 And I know one of the things I got kind of got hooked on this country Wayne
00:21:38 --> 00:21:41 skits that they do with the storylines and so forth.
00:21:41 --> 00:21:46 So I do watch that, but you can all, but, and they, he also has it on Facebook
00:21:46 --> 00:21:50 and he also has it on YouTube. So you can go to YouTube and watch it,
00:21:50 --> 00:21:54 but it just wasn't the same because of the way they lay it out on, on, on TikTok.
00:21:55 --> 00:22:00 And then I like to look at some of the new artists, the music on the music end.
00:22:00 --> 00:22:04 So I do check out some of the new performances. And there's a couple of people
00:22:04 --> 00:22:06 that I follow that I really like.
00:22:06 --> 00:22:11 Anytime they drop something or whatever the case may be, I'm right there.
00:22:11 --> 00:22:15 So, and so what's kind of different when you couldn't just go to that stuff
00:22:15 --> 00:22:21 and, and pull it up? but that's, that's what, that's what was different for
00:22:21 --> 00:22:23 me. You know, what about yourself?
00:22:24 --> 00:22:27 Now, I mean, I didn't even notice until I was on Instagram the next day and
00:22:27 --> 00:22:30 someone said TikTok is down. I was like, Oh, well, let me look at my TikTok.
00:22:31 --> 00:22:34 And I saw the mess. I'm surprised. Well, that tells me folks.
00:22:35 --> 00:22:39 Well, no, what it was is I woke up at it, like whatever that day was.
00:22:39 --> 00:22:42 I woke up at like four in the morning and I didn't look at my text message.
00:22:42 --> 00:22:44 I just kind of went to Instagram prior.
00:22:44 --> 00:22:46 So I saw your text message afterwards.
00:22:46 --> 00:22:50 And when i saw the time on it i was like dang like that that's early like yeah
00:22:50 --> 00:22:55 because yeah because i text you right after it happened yeah because you know i would have thought.
00:22:55 --> 00:22:58 If i was a real tiktoker i would have been mad because i
00:22:58 --> 00:23:01 would have thought i had an extra two hours to like go through videos maybe
00:23:01 --> 00:23:04 download content you know how mad everybody
00:23:04 --> 00:23:07 was like surprised look i'm
00:23:07 --> 00:23:10 sure everybody letter it was like on they
00:23:10 --> 00:23:13 were going to work it all way up until midnight you know just trying
00:23:13 --> 00:23:15 to find all the content and do it but it
00:23:15 --> 00:23:18 happened before midnight and that was what was so interesting
00:23:18 --> 00:23:23 so yeah yeah so but but
00:23:23 --> 00:23:26 it's back folks so i'm sure everybody's happy now
00:23:26 --> 00:23:29 and so we got it back so i just wanted to kind
00:23:29 --> 00:23:32 of talk about that i'm sure everybody has their stories about
00:23:32 --> 00:23:35 tiktok that people that do use it
00:23:35 --> 00:23:38 and whatever and what was going through their minds at
00:23:38 --> 00:23:41 that particular time i have people i work with especially
00:23:41 --> 00:23:43 one particular person good buddy about that i work with
00:23:43 --> 00:23:48 and she is tick tock fanatic
00:23:48 --> 00:23:52 i mean she is great and so she was over there having conniptions when it went
00:23:52 --> 00:23:56 down you know because i text i text the people from my job and i was like tick
00:23:56 --> 00:24:02 tock down and you know and this particular person i know i don't know what i'm
00:24:02 --> 00:24:06 gonna do i don't know what i'm gonna do you know because they buy from TikTok shop,
00:24:07 --> 00:24:10 they do all of that stuff, you know, so they were going nuts, you know, so.
00:24:11 --> 00:24:15 And think about those people that make money off of that TikTok shop stuff, you know?
00:24:16 --> 00:24:19 Yeah, because they were about to lose a fortune, you know, because now you got
00:24:19 --> 00:24:25 to go to another site and build up, you know, hopefully you can build up being
00:24:25 --> 00:24:27 able to sell merchandise on another site.
00:24:27 --> 00:24:33 And, you know, but thank God it came back and, you know, people can continue
00:24:33 --> 00:24:35 their livelihood or whatever they do with TikTok.
00:24:36 --> 00:24:39 So there we go. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. I do agree.
00:24:40 --> 00:24:43 All right. I guess it is what it is. It is what it is.
00:24:44 --> 00:24:48 Luckily, President Trump saved TikTok for us. I know, I know.
00:24:48 --> 00:24:54 I guess we're going to have to hear about that. I'm sure it's his first State
00:24:54 --> 00:24:57 of the Union address. I did this. I saved TikTok.
00:24:57 --> 00:25:00 You know, and, you know, you think one of these other people,
00:25:01 --> 00:25:02 you think Kamala would have saved TikTok?
00:25:03 --> 00:25:06 No, she never would have saved it. Yeah, it does.
00:25:07 --> 00:25:10 So that's, I'm sure we'll hear about it soon.
00:25:10 --> 00:25:14 I'm sure i'm sure so let's
00:25:14 --> 00:25:17 move on to our next story let's see so dave for
00:25:17 --> 00:25:20 this next story and i thought this was pretty interesting i feel
00:25:20 --> 00:25:25 like i've heard it before but i can honestly say i did not know so of course
00:25:25 --> 00:25:30 we know that today of course is martin luther king day but did you know that
00:25:30 --> 00:25:39 in alabama and mississippi today is also robert e lee day in honor of that confederate general,
00:25:40 --> 00:25:41 Did you know that? Nope.
00:25:42 --> 00:25:47 Should that really surprise us that something like that could be celebrated in those states?
00:25:48 --> 00:25:54 Yes. You know, it's like, how do you celebrate Martin Luther King Day on the same day as Robert E.
00:25:54 --> 00:25:56 Lee Day? I mean, it's so odd to me.
00:25:57 --> 00:26:00 Well, in Mississippi and Alabama, they can do it.
00:26:01 --> 00:26:08 Yeah. So, I mean, clearly these two states recognize King and Lee on this third Monday in January.
00:26:08 --> 00:26:14 And so the Robert E. Lee Day, that holiday is more than a century old.
00:26:14 --> 00:26:16 And of course, it honors Lee.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:20 So I guess it originally honored Robert E.
00:26:20 --> 00:26:24 Lee. And those states just never got rid of it when we, you know,
00:26:24 --> 00:26:29 years ago when we added Martin Luther King to the day.
00:26:29 --> 00:26:35 So now with that said, both of those men have January birthdays.
00:26:36 --> 00:26:41 Lee's birthday is on January 19th, 1807.
00:26:41 --> 00:26:46 And Martin Luther King's birthday was January 15th, 1929.
00:26:46 --> 00:26:49 And so it
00:26:49 --> 00:26:52 looks like there were a couple times that people tried to get
00:26:52 --> 00:26:57 rid of that holiday but they were unsuccessful and so
00:26:57 --> 00:27:01 his holiday started in Alabama in 1901
00:27:01 --> 00:27:10 and Mississippi started in 1910 and it wasn't until 1983 that Ronald Reagan
00:27:10 --> 00:27:19 signed into legislation that Martin Luther King holiday be adopted as a state holiday.
00:27:19 --> 00:27:24 And then of course it turned into a federal holiday as well.
00:27:24 --> 00:27:28 So, but, you know, I thought that was interesting because I just, I didn't know.
00:27:28 --> 00:27:32 And the article states, black lawmakers have tried numerous times,
00:27:32 --> 00:27:33 but have been unsuccessful.
00:27:34 --> 00:27:39 So, you know, maybe, well, I'm sure in a president Trump's term,
00:27:39 --> 00:27:46 they might well just hold off on that rally and wait till the next person is
00:27:46 --> 00:27:49 ready because they may be wasting their time.
00:27:50 --> 00:27:56 And, you know, it's amazing that those type of things are still happening.
00:27:56 --> 00:28:01 You know, a couple years ago, they went through and took down all these statues
00:28:01 --> 00:28:11 and memorials to a lot of these same type of people that, you know,
00:28:12 --> 00:28:22 were considered to be people who sort of had shady pasts and not so great looking
00:28:22 --> 00:28:26 pasts as far as when it comes to racism.
00:28:26 --> 00:28:27 And stuff like that.
00:28:28 --> 00:28:35 Right. You know, to, you know, when you say Confederate, you know,
00:28:37 --> 00:28:42 it's not necessarily a good thing when it comes to our history, you know? Yeah.
00:28:42 --> 00:28:48 Nah, I agree. You know, and, you know, just like the Confederate flag, I mean, you know.
00:28:50 --> 00:28:55 You ain't gonna see one of us carrying a Confederate flag around because it
00:28:55 --> 00:29:00 was not for a, Dave, every once in a while, in the South, every once in a while,
00:29:00 --> 00:29:03 you got to see somebody. Yeah, with my boy.
00:29:05 --> 00:29:07 Clayton Bigsby. Yeah. Yeah.
00:29:09 --> 00:29:14 Yeah. Yeah. And Dave, you remember we did the story on that real life play in Bigsby?
00:29:14 --> 00:29:18 This person in Alabama who kind of had the same thing.
00:29:18 --> 00:29:23 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, but, you know, I can guarantee you, you ain't going to see
00:29:23 --> 00:29:26 it too much up here in the North. I can tell you that for sure.
00:29:26 --> 00:29:31 And the only reason that you might say it up here in the north is that it's
00:29:31 --> 00:29:33 probably from somebody who lived who came from the south.
00:29:34 --> 00:29:39 You know what I mean? Well, I will say you will see up here in the north in
00:29:39 --> 00:29:42 those very rural areas like Pennsylvania.
00:29:42 --> 00:29:45 You'll see some places down by the campground.
00:29:45 --> 00:29:47 You'll definitely see it. Yeah.
00:29:48 --> 00:29:53 Well, yeah, I guess in your area. Yeah. Down there. But then that doesn't surprise me either.
00:29:53 --> 00:29:56 So, and look, when I went,
00:29:56 --> 00:30:02 you know, I know with the, I know there's PA, when you look at how PA was all
00:30:02 --> 00:30:06 read, you know, as far as the voting was concerned, I'm sure there's a lot of
00:30:06 --> 00:30:09 parts of PA, you'll probably see it too. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:30:11 --> 00:30:16 We can't, we can't, we can't, you know, there's got to be some type of legislation.
00:30:16 --> 00:30:19 Well, I guess it's contained, you know, because I mean,
00:30:20 --> 00:30:29 you know, it only, I guess it is what it is when it comes to keeping it in a
00:30:29 --> 00:30:32 certain area, confined to a certain area.
00:30:32 --> 00:30:38 If they try to make that a national holiday, that's a whole different story, you know,
00:30:38 --> 00:30:41 like, but of course, you know, they probably feel the same
00:30:41 --> 00:30:45 way about martin luther kingsburg you know mlk day
00:30:45 --> 00:30:48 they probably feel that way about that day no day well
00:30:48 --> 00:30:52 you know they especially with them rolling back all these dei initiatives
00:30:52 --> 00:30:56 yes i wouldn't be surprised as they start they lord forbid they start trying
00:30:56 --> 00:31:00 to take some of these black statues away black holidays juneteenth you know
00:31:00 --> 00:31:05 they we just got juneteenth hopefully they don't try to roll that back yeah
00:31:05 --> 00:31:09 well these dei i mean the dei stuff man,
00:31:09 --> 00:31:15 And it's not a coincidence that a lot of it's gone away because look at the timing and everything.
00:31:15 --> 00:31:22 It only started happening once somebody looked like they were going to become president again.
00:31:23 --> 00:31:24 Right. You know?
00:31:26 --> 00:31:33 And because, I mean, those programs have been in place for a while now.
00:31:33 --> 00:31:41 And for all of a sudden, for them to start going away now, it just doesn't make any sense.
00:31:41 --> 00:31:46 And especially, it started with a lot of the schools down in the South, you know.
00:31:46 --> 00:31:49 And these big schools, these ain't small schools, you know.
00:31:49 --> 00:31:55 I mean, and eventually, now, how's that eventually going to affect all the HBCUs, I wonder?
00:31:57 --> 00:32:00 Because, think about them. think about it because some of
00:32:00 --> 00:32:03 the a lot of the hbcus have like
00:32:03 --> 00:32:06 a reverse type situation when it comes to
00:32:06 --> 00:32:09 dei with the white students that go to
00:32:09 --> 00:32:12 a lot of those schools yeah well i mean
00:32:12 --> 00:32:16 i feel like the hbcus aren't gonna restrict anything okay well
00:32:16 --> 00:32:19 let's hope not yeah because they've you know
00:32:19 --> 00:32:21 or let's let's well
00:32:21 --> 00:32:25 let's hope they're not being forced to restrict anything right
00:32:25 --> 00:32:28 yeah so yeah but we'll
00:32:28 --> 00:32:31 see we'll see how that goes but yeah that's that's
00:32:31 --> 00:32:34 really a thing that we have that going on down there and
00:32:34 --> 00:32:37 hopefully somebody will take a
00:32:37 --> 00:32:44 good look at it and maybe try to figure out is this really necessary you know
00:32:44 --> 00:32:49 so but then i'm sure those people down there probably feel it is so that's a
00:32:49 --> 00:32:57 whole nother story so all right well enough about that on my on martin luther king day.
00:32:59 --> 00:33:02 This next story I wanted to talk about,
00:33:04 --> 00:33:07 President Biden is going out with a bang, folks.
00:33:07 --> 00:33:13 He is not playing around. He's doing the most that he can do on his way out to office.
00:33:13 --> 00:33:21 So Biden issues historic pardons, including legendary civil rights leader Marcus Garvey.
00:33:21 --> 00:33:26 I thought this was really interesting. It says, on the last full day of the
00:33:26 --> 00:33:32 presidency, President Joe Biden took a monumental step in the realm of criminal justice reform.
00:33:33 --> 00:33:36 By issuing five pardons among them
00:33:36 --> 00:33:40 were iconic civil
00:33:40 --> 00:33:44 rights activist marcus garvey the pardons
00:33:44 --> 00:33:51 were just part of biden's commitment to restorative justice and exemplify his
00:33:51 --> 00:33:57 administration's broader efforts to recognize historical injustices while endorsing
00:33:57 --> 00:34:00 rehabilitation and second chances.
00:34:01 --> 00:34:08 So it's funny, we just talked about that situation with the Robert E. Lee holiday.
00:34:09 --> 00:34:14 You know, this kind of falls, what Biden was doing kind of falls,
00:34:14 --> 00:34:19 you know, that kind of falls into that type of situation where Biden probably,
00:34:19 --> 00:34:24 you know, if he had more time in office, he probably could do something about something like that.
00:34:24 --> 00:34:30 But anyway, in a statement, Biden underscored the message behind these clemencies,
00:34:30 --> 00:34:36 declaring America is a country built on the promise of second chances.
00:34:36 --> 00:34:40 He reflected on the use of his clemency power, stating,
00:34:41 --> 00:34:46 as president, I have used my clemency power to make that promise a reality by
00:34:46 --> 00:34:54 issuing more individual pardons than any other president in U.S. history.
00:34:55 --> 00:35:00 Biden emphasized that those who receive pardons have shown significant remorse
00:35:00 --> 00:35:05 and have worked to positively affect and impact their communities.
00:35:05 --> 00:35:10 Among the recipients was Marcus Garvey, a renowned black nationalist and a pivotal
00:35:10 --> 00:35:15 part of the civil rights movement.
00:35:15 --> 00:35:23 In 1923, Marcus Garvey was convicted of mail fraud and sentenced to five years
00:35:23 --> 00:35:28 in prison, a conviction many have contended was politically motivated,
00:35:28 --> 00:35:31 aimed at suppressing his growing influence.
00:35:31 --> 00:35:35 Biden's White House celebrated Garvey's legacy,
00:35:35 --> 00:35:42 highlighting his role as a leader of the Universal Negro Improvement Association
00:35:42 --> 00:35:46 and his establishment of the Black Star Line,
00:35:46 --> 00:35:52 the first Black-owned shipping company meant to promote international travel
00:35:52 --> 00:35:54 for people of African descent.
00:35:55 --> 00:35:59 Congressional leaders and advocates had long urged the Biden administration
00:35:59 --> 00:36:04 to pardon Garvey during his conviction as a significant historical injustice.
00:36:04 --> 00:36:07 The White House noted that Martin Luther King Jr.
00:36:08 --> 00:36:13 Regarded Garvey as the first man of color in the history of the United States
00:36:13 --> 00:36:20 to lead and develop a mass movement further solidifying his importance in American history.
00:36:20 --> 00:36:26 In addition to Garvey, Biden pardoned several individuals whose stories reflect
00:36:26 --> 00:36:30 their journeys from adversity to advocacy.
00:36:30 --> 00:36:34 See, Ravidat Ravi Ragbir,
00:36:34 --> 00:36:42 a immigrant rights activist who was convicted of nonviolent offense in 2001
00:36:42 --> 00:36:45 and sentenced to two years in prison.
00:36:45 --> 00:36:50 His work focused on helping others navigate the complexities of the immigration
00:36:50 --> 00:36:55 law and advocating for the rights of immigrant families.
00:36:55 --> 00:37:03 Kemba Smith Pradya, another recipient, was convicted of drug offense in 1994
00:37:03 --> 00:37:07 and sentenced to 24 years in 2000.
00:37:07 --> 00:37:13 Her sentence was commuted by President Bill Clinton, and since then,
00:37:13 --> 00:37:17 she has become a powerful advocate for the criminal justice reform,
00:37:17 --> 00:37:23 sharing her experience to influence It's policy change that promotes rehabilitation
00:37:23 --> 00:37:25 over punitive measures.
00:37:27 --> 00:37:31 Additionally, two more individuals had their sentence commuted,
00:37:31 --> 00:37:34 Michelle West and Robin Peoples.
00:37:35 --> 00:37:42 West was sentenced to life in prison for serious drug-related offenses in 1990,
00:37:42 --> 00:37:47 spent over three decades behind bars, demonstrating significant personal transformation.
00:37:47 --> 00:37:54 Her clemency petition garnered an overwhelming support for activists and lawmakers
00:37:54 --> 00:37:59 who recognized her rehabilitation and commitment to social justice.
00:38:00 --> 00:38:06 Biden's record in issuing clemency includes a total of reductions of sentences
00:38:06 --> 00:38:11 for nearly 2 individuals during his presidency,
00:38:11 --> 00:38:18 A landmark achieved signaling a significant shift towards humane and just treatment
00:38:18 --> 00:38:20 of those within American,
00:38:20 --> 00:38:22 within the American penal system.
00:38:23 --> 00:38:33 Don Scott, the Virginia House speakers, received their pardon for his nonviolent drug offense in 1994.
00:38:33 --> 00:38:38 Express immigrant, I mean, immense gratitude towards Biden for the opportunity
00:38:38 --> 00:38:44 for redemption. I will never forget the pain my family felt when I was sentenced
00:38:44 --> 00:38:47 and the sound of my mother's anguish in the courtroom.
00:38:48 --> 00:38:52 But I also won't forget the joy of redemption and renewal.
00:38:52 --> 00:38:59 The sounds of her tears as I was sworn in as speaker, remarked Scott about his
00:38:59 --> 00:39:01 journey. I'm going to stop there. Yeah.
00:39:02 --> 00:39:11 So here we are on this Martin Luther King day, listening to this story about what Biden has done.
00:39:12 --> 00:39:17 And I really applaud him for the, for those that he pardoned.
00:39:18 --> 00:39:21 And I feel that it was a good look on his part.
00:39:23 --> 00:39:29 You know, when you look at the offenses that these guys were jailed for in the
00:39:29 --> 00:39:33 period of times that they got, it seemed like all of them were pretty obsessive to me.
00:39:34 --> 00:39:38 Did you kind of notice that? Yeah, I'm saying, well, you know,
00:39:38 --> 00:39:40 I think that's why it was easier for him to pardon.
00:39:40 --> 00:39:45 You know, these were less controversial pardons rather than the ones he might
00:39:45 --> 00:39:50 did today, last-minute hours before his power switched over.
00:39:51 --> 00:39:56 Right, right. I mean, you know, it's really interesting when you read this and
00:39:56 --> 00:40:00 you say to yourself, well, so they got life.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:04 One person got life. One person got, you know, 24 years. And you're saying,
00:40:05 --> 00:40:08 okay, people out here shooting people these days.
00:40:08 --> 00:40:10 I know. And they get out in five, ten years.
00:40:11 --> 00:40:16 Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. You know, but it just tells you about,
00:40:17 --> 00:40:24 you know, if you have a certain skin color, you know, how things could be different for you.
00:40:24 --> 00:40:28 Yeah. Well, Dave, like they say, freedom isn't always free.
00:40:29 --> 00:40:35 That is true. That is true. But in this case, you know, for him to do what he's
00:40:35 --> 00:40:39 done, and especially for Marcus Garvey, because, you know, we've heard about Marcus Garvey.
00:40:39 --> 00:40:45 You know, he's always been one of those lightning rod type mentions when it
00:40:45 --> 00:40:54 comes to black history, you know, but, you know, what he did was Marcus Garvey was a great man from,
00:40:54 --> 00:40:58 you know, I always felt conflicted about hearing, you know.
00:40:59 --> 00:41:05 About how he spent, you know, time in jail for basically doing the same thing,
00:41:05 --> 00:41:07 same type of things he came was doing.
00:41:08 --> 00:41:11 If you know what I mean you know you know he,
00:41:12 --> 00:41:19 You know, I just think there's always like two rules and there's always going to be two rules.
00:41:19 --> 00:41:21 One for them, one for us.
00:41:22 --> 00:41:27 Yep. And Dave, like I said, there's going to be a rule in the black and a rule in the white. Yeah.
00:41:28 --> 00:41:32 And Dave, looking at the color of your skin, I already know where you fall.
00:41:33 --> 00:41:37 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've been, yeah, been that way all my life.
00:41:37 --> 00:41:39 What can I say? Yeah. What can I say?
00:41:40 --> 00:41:43 But I just thought it was a great story, especially to bring up today.
00:41:43 --> 00:41:47 I commend Biden for doing what he's done. Of course, you know,
00:41:48 --> 00:41:50 now there was some controversial pardons that he's made.
00:41:50 --> 00:41:54 Of course, he pardoned his son Hunter and all of that, you know,
00:41:54 --> 00:41:58 but, you know, you know, you joked around earlier about, you know,
00:41:59 --> 00:42:01 he hasn't pardoned Puppet yet, but that's a whole nother story.
00:42:02 --> 00:42:05 Well, Dave, I think officially it's too late.
00:42:05 --> 00:42:11 It's too late now, you know, I got my, I got my TV on, but the volume's down.
00:42:11 --> 00:42:14 But looking at the TV, I think it's too late. It hasn't happened yet? Okay.
00:42:15 --> 00:42:18 No, no, no. It ain't going to happen now.
00:42:18 --> 00:42:23 Not unless Trump parties. If it happens, it'll happen under the new watch.
00:42:23 --> 00:42:27 And then, you know, I did this. You know, I got him off.
00:42:30 --> 00:42:34 But I just wanted to bring that story to light because I thought it was a great story.
00:42:34 --> 00:42:38 And, you know, good luck for Biden on his way out of the office.
00:42:38 --> 00:42:42 And, you know, he did a few things, you know, at the end, you know,
00:42:42 --> 00:42:46 he also got a bill passed to raise,
00:42:46 --> 00:42:50 you know, more money for social security because, you know, people were really
00:42:50 --> 00:42:55 getting worried about social security and, you know, so he did some things on
00:42:55 --> 00:42:57 the way out of the office. I thought were really good.
00:42:57 --> 00:43:01 So, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, all right.
00:43:02 --> 00:43:03 Moving on to our next story.
00:43:05 --> 00:43:10 I thought this was another interesting story, too, and it's ironically, here we are on this day.
00:43:12 --> 00:43:23 So Trump vows to release SEAL-FEI files on the MLK assassination and rails against
00:43:23 --> 00:43:25 DEI. We just got to install him about DEI.
00:43:26 --> 00:43:32 Well, here we are. He says, President-elect Donald Trump announced that when
00:43:32 --> 00:43:40 he takes office, he intends to declassify FBI records related to the assassination of Dr.
00:43:41 --> 00:43:48 Martin Luther King one day before the federal holiday, observing the civil rights icon.
00:43:49 --> 00:43:57 He said, while delivering a more than hour-long speech at the pre-inauguration victory round, in DC.
00:43:58 --> 00:44:04 He told thousands of supporters that he attends to release decades-old declassified
00:44:04 --> 00:44:11 documents that details the federal government's investigation of the 1968 King murder.
00:44:12 --> 00:44:17 He also said he would do the same for the assassinations of former President John F.
00:44:17 --> 00:44:20 Kennedy and his brother Robert F. Kennedy.
00:44:22 --> 00:44:29 We're going to make it public, the remaining records relating to the assassination
00:44:29 --> 00:44:31 of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F.
00:44:32 --> 00:44:38 Kennedy, as well as Martin Luther King, and other topics for the great public interest, said Trump.
00:44:38 --> 00:44:41 It's all going to be released on consent.
00:44:43 --> 00:44:48 He said that he promised to declassify the JFK secret files as he did during
00:44:48 --> 00:44:53 his first term in office, but the White House later delayed the,
00:44:53 --> 00:44:57 citing concerns about national security.
00:44:59 --> 00:45:05 A portion of those files reportedly contained FBI analysis that harshly portrayed Dr.
00:45:05 --> 00:45:07 King in a negative light.
00:45:09 --> 00:45:14 Now, there's more to this story, but I'm going to stop right there because didn't
00:45:14 --> 00:45:17 you almost get the feeling before
00:45:17 --> 00:45:22 I even went that far into the story that there was a reason for this?
00:45:23 --> 00:45:27 Yeah, of course. Did it feel like he was up to something? well
00:45:27 --> 00:45:31 my bigger question dave is why is
00:45:31 --> 00:45:34 there classified information regarding these two like what
00:45:34 --> 00:45:37 who are we protecting well no
00:45:37 --> 00:45:40 no i'm like dave dave you know we can
00:45:40 --> 00:45:43 only be protecting one person yeah and both
00:45:43 --> 00:45:47 of these you know who that is the fbi
00:45:47 --> 00:45:50 the government yeah yeah yeah the
00:45:50 --> 00:45:53 government yeah well i mean government fbi secret yeah
00:45:53 --> 00:45:56 those are the only people we could
00:45:56 --> 00:45:59 be protecting like we're we're not protecting nobody
00:45:59 --> 00:46:04 and you know nobody associated with king so it's just kind of like why are we
00:46:04 --> 00:46:10 holding the documents top secret classified you know to be honest same thing
00:46:10 --> 00:46:17 with the okay now i'm gonna go on a tangent go ahead that's what that's what I'm sure.
00:46:17 --> 00:46:25 Yeah, yeah. Now, Area 51, I can kind of understand why we may be keeping some of that top secret.
00:46:25 --> 00:46:28 If there's aliens out here, you know, Dave, we're going to start going wild.
00:46:29 --> 00:46:33 Yeah, yeah. But as far as assassination, like Martin Luther King,
00:46:33 --> 00:46:38 JFK, why are you holding any information back?
00:46:39 --> 00:46:44 And the only reason we could think of is if it's going to incriminate the government.
00:46:44 --> 00:46:51 You know and the other thing i keep and another tangent those epstein files
00:46:51 --> 00:46:55 that have the names of everyone who visited the island and like their top secret
00:46:55 --> 00:47:02 classified for five years why are you doing that yeah i know yeah yeah yeah i mean it's.
00:47:03 --> 00:47:11 It's just weird. Well, I think it's ironic.
00:47:12 --> 00:47:17 All these years have passed. All these different administrations have happened.
00:47:18 --> 00:47:27 And why is it that it's only him that's determined to declassify these particular files?
00:47:28 --> 00:47:32 Why do you think it's only him? Go ahead. Because...
00:47:33 --> 00:47:38 And I hate to say for all the other presidents, I feel like they took an oath
00:47:38 --> 00:47:42 of office to protect the government, to protect the United States.
00:47:43 --> 00:47:46 So almost like almost like cops,
00:47:46 --> 00:47:49 you know, they're going to protect each other, even if they do wrong.
00:47:49 --> 00:47:56 And unfortunately, Donald Trump is so rogue and he has such a passion to be
00:47:56 --> 00:48:00 known as a hero, as a radical,
00:48:00 --> 00:48:10 that I feel like he would bypass that oath to make him look like he saved TikTok. You know what I mean?
00:48:10 --> 00:48:14 Like, you know what I mean? Like, like he just wants that attention as the the
00:48:14 --> 00:48:19 great white hype, the savior, you know, the person who, you know,
00:48:19 --> 00:48:22 the people's person who fought against the government and won.
00:48:23 --> 00:48:29 Yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree. I agree. I mean, you know, he has to make it all about him.
00:48:30 --> 00:48:32 I mean, you know, it has to be about him.
00:48:33 --> 00:48:37 And he wants to be the person that said, I did that.
00:48:38 --> 00:48:43 That's what he wants to be. You know, now I just find it really interesting.
00:48:45 --> 00:48:50 Okay, like, why center on Dr.
00:48:50 --> 00:48:53 King and what they think Dr. King was up to?
00:48:54 --> 00:49:00 I mean, after all, it's been known for years that the FBI corruptly,
00:49:00 --> 00:49:06 you know, allegedly, you know, they did illegal,
00:49:07 --> 00:49:10 allegedly did illegal surveillance of
00:49:10 --> 00:49:13 King and others during the 60s civil rights
00:49:13 --> 00:49:17 movement saying that they were creating you
00:49:17 --> 00:49:20 know that they would get ready to do something to certain
00:49:20 --> 00:49:23 you know certain individuals they were gathering all
00:49:23 --> 00:49:26 these people to to to take
00:49:26 --> 00:49:29 out people and all this kind of stuff you know and
00:49:29 --> 00:49:35 now keep in mind any any old videos or anything that you've seen from back during
00:49:35 --> 00:49:44 that time did you ever see black people harassing or acting negatively towards
00:49:44 --> 00:49:46 any people of any other color?
00:49:47 --> 00:49:50 Wasn't it the other way around all the time you look at those videos?
00:49:51 --> 00:49:53 It was always something being done to them.
00:49:54 --> 00:50:00 Yeah. So why would they think that Dr. King was up to something more than what he was up to?
00:50:02 --> 00:50:08 And, you know, I mean, it's, you know, and there was never any evidence that
00:50:08 --> 00:50:11 there was They can never find anything on Dr.
00:50:11 --> 00:50:14 King in order to prove what they thought was going on.
00:50:15 --> 00:50:21 Right. You know, there's a line here that says, during his Sunday rally,
00:50:21 --> 00:50:23 Trump also rallied against DEI.
00:50:23 --> 00:50:28 Here we go with the DEI declaring, we're going to stop the destructive and divisive
00:50:28 --> 00:50:36 diversity, equity, inclusion mandates all across the government and private sector.
00:50:36 --> 00:50:44 Seemingly pointing to the Supreme Court's 2023 ruling that overturned affirmative
00:50:44 --> 00:50:46 action based on college admissions,
00:50:47 --> 00:50:51 the incoming president said, the
00:50:51 --> 00:50:59 divisive nature that's going on in the government and the private sector?
00:50:59 --> 00:51:04 So they, are you saying, what are you saying that we,
00:51:04 --> 00:51:09 you know, we're being given handouts and that, you know, that we haven't been
00:51:09 --> 00:51:14 good at the positions that we've been, that we've been put in all of this time.
00:51:14 --> 00:51:18 And now you're going to put, fill them with, what, you're going to put all your people in there?
00:51:19 --> 00:51:22 You know or you you you're
00:51:22 --> 00:51:26 going what are you going to use the money for that was that was
00:51:26 --> 00:51:32 put that was how i want to put it the money that was assigned or the money that
00:51:32 --> 00:51:38 was that was granted for these programs to what are you going to do with those
00:51:38 --> 00:51:42 monies what you know you're going to cut out the programs you know.
00:51:44 --> 00:51:51 You know, the DEI, you know, they supposedly got rid of affirmative action,
00:51:51 --> 00:51:55 but then they, I read somewhere the other day, they called it,
00:51:55 --> 00:52:00 they masqueraded DEI, affirmative action by calling it DEI.
00:52:00 --> 00:52:03 Okay, y'all can say whatever y'all want to say.
00:52:04 --> 00:52:10 But there was nothing going, there was no problems. I mean, we wasn't having issues.
00:52:10 --> 00:52:14 I mean, the only people that had problems were the people that were making problems,
00:52:14 --> 00:52:18 you know, and a lot of it was coming from the southern states because they were
00:52:18 --> 00:52:22 feeling that these people were getting handouts. But yet, look at these schools.
00:52:23 --> 00:52:26 The schools were making Florida, Alabama.
00:52:28 --> 00:52:31 Florida State was another school. I forget.
00:52:31 --> 00:52:35 There was a big school down there. But anyway, all these schools were making
00:52:35 --> 00:52:40 tons and tons of money off of the black athletes and the black scholars that
00:52:40 --> 00:52:43 were coming down there to those schools.
00:52:44 --> 00:52:50 Yes, they were getting DEI incentives and so forth, but look at all the money
00:52:50 --> 00:52:52 your schools made off of these kids.
00:52:53 --> 00:52:59 And yet, you're talking about we're getting a handout when the schools are making all the money?
00:52:59 --> 00:53:03 You know now you got stores taking
00:53:03 --> 00:53:05 out you know now they're they're taking
00:53:05 --> 00:53:08 stuff out of their stores because of you know
00:53:08 --> 00:53:12 they of dei these dei programs and
00:53:12 --> 00:53:15 everything being eliminated so now you can't
00:53:15 --> 00:53:20 go into certain stores that you once could go into like walmart and target and
00:53:20 --> 00:53:26 and where they might have a whole section of black dolls or and or alternative
00:53:26 --> 00:53:29 lifestyle type things and you
00:53:29 --> 00:53:32 can't buy these things anymore because they've taken them off the shelf.
00:53:34 --> 00:53:37 What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing?
00:53:38 --> 00:53:41 Dr. King would be, I said Captain King. I was going to say Captain King.
00:53:42 --> 00:53:46 Dr. King would be turning over in his grave right now. He really would be.
00:53:46 --> 00:53:49 I mean, with all the stuff that's going on in the world today.
00:53:50 --> 00:53:53 I mean, what are you thinking with that?
00:53:54 --> 00:54:00 Yeah, I mean, I agree. I mean, kind of like Dave, I said, we're in a totally different age and time.
00:54:01 --> 00:54:04 Half the people don't even respect Dr. King or his message anyway.
00:54:04 --> 00:54:09 So, and I was thinking that before the podcast, you know, how Rodney King was
00:54:09 --> 00:54:11 like, can't we just all get along?
00:54:11 --> 00:54:16 Right, right. I think, I think we have proved to ourselves that that answer is no.
00:54:17 --> 00:54:20 Obviously. Obviously the answer is no.
00:54:20 --> 00:54:26 Yeah, because it's just a different, well, it's a different day and time and
00:54:26 --> 00:54:29 people just don't care enough anymore.
00:54:29 --> 00:54:31 They only care about self.
00:54:32 --> 00:54:36 And unfortunately that makes it bad for everybody
00:54:36 --> 00:54:38 we got to do better we really do
00:54:38 --> 00:54:46 have to do better i was watching the kansas city game on saturday that was the
00:54:46 --> 00:54:52 kansas city game yeah saturday in the box you see taylor swift which they always
00:54:52 --> 00:54:56 showed 1500 times during the game but next to her,
00:54:57 --> 00:55:01 Caitlyn Clark like literally like sitting next to her,
00:55:02 --> 00:55:09 that's her guest they're sitting there geeking and laughing and cheering and whatever now,
00:55:10 --> 00:55:15 and nothing but white people in this box no black people in this box now Caitlyn
00:55:15 --> 00:55:19 Clark is of course was over the last year like one of the biggest lightning
00:55:19 --> 00:55:27 rods for what's you know for racism and it's been exclusive to,
00:55:28 --> 00:55:32 Because of skin color, you know, there is.
00:55:33 --> 00:55:36 Now you got her hanging out with Taylor Swift. This is the first time you ever
00:55:36 --> 00:55:42 seen them two together in a box cheering on the Chiefs in a football game.
00:55:43 --> 00:55:47 The debut, you know, just before Martin Luther King's birthday.
00:55:47 --> 00:55:49 I'm sitting there looking at this, Leonard.
00:55:49 --> 00:55:55 I'm like human. It really bothered me. I was like. Did you turn off the game?
00:55:56 --> 00:55:59 No, I didn't turn off the game because they didn't do it. Look,
00:55:59 --> 00:56:03 it wasn't, you know, I want, actually, I wanted to see the Chiefs lose,
00:56:03 --> 00:56:06 but they didn't lose. They should have lost, but that was another story.
00:56:07 --> 00:56:12 But, but they kept flashing to the box and they kept, you know,
00:56:12 --> 00:56:16 of course, you know, we, Caitlin Clark, that's all we hear, you know,
00:56:17 --> 00:56:19 even during the offseason, her best, she's not even playing ball right now.
00:56:20 --> 00:56:22 And you still hear Caitlin Clark's name every time you turn around.
00:56:22 --> 00:56:28 Now, you know, this is where we are right now, you know, and it's really,
00:56:28 --> 00:56:31 it's really a shame that we, we're having,
00:56:32 --> 00:56:35 we're still treated the way we're treated.
00:56:35 --> 00:56:40 I'm going to put it that way, you know, without, without getting too much deeper into it.
00:56:40 --> 00:56:45 But, you know, I was really upset when I read this about, you know,
00:56:45 --> 00:56:52 it's one thing if you're going to declassify and talk about the assassination of these three people.
00:56:56 --> 00:57:01 And just do it because you want people to know the truth of what happened.
00:57:02 --> 00:57:08 But don't single Dr. King out because you feel that he was up to more than what
00:57:08 --> 00:57:12 he appeared to be. Because that's what basically it comes to.
00:57:13 --> 00:57:17 Okay, so why was Robert F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy, I mean,
00:57:17 --> 00:57:19 why was Robert Kennedy and John F.
00:57:19 --> 00:57:22 Kennedy assassinated then? what was their
00:57:22 --> 00:57:26 what was their reason for being assassinated i think
00:57:26 --> 00:57:30 the same thing i think the government because you know robert kennedy
00:57:30 --> 00:57:34 i mean john f kennedy was black
00:57:34 --> 00:57:39 very black friendly oh yeah like yeah so i mean dave i'm i'm still going with
00:57:39 --> 00:57:45 my original answer what is the government slash fbi secret service cia yeah
00:57:45 --> 00:57:53 yeah yeah yeah that's true but i guess well maybe we'll find some things out, maybe we won't.
00:57:53 --> 00:57:57 But as long as they're not trying to say that Dr. King was some militant guy,
00:57:57 --> 00:58:03 forming an army or whatever, next thing you know, they'll be pulling up the
00:58:03 --> 00:58:06 files on Jesus, trying to declassify his record.
00:58:06 --> 00:58:10 You know what I mean? You know, Trump is saying. He wasn't really what he thought
00:58:10 --> 00:58:12 he was, he really wasn't.
00:58:14 --> 00:58:19 I'm a better man than he was, so that's what Trump would be saying. But anyway.
00:58:21 --> 00:58:28 Happy Martin Luther King birthday, guys. So anyway, that brings us to Leonard's
00:58:28 --> 00:58:31 favorite part of the show, folks. Dave's Corner.
00:58:33 --> 00:58:36 And I thought this would be a good question for today.
00:58:37 --> 00:58:46 So, Leonard, with TikTok going down this weekend, do you think you could function
00:58:46 --> 00:58:50 in life fully if the following sites all went down permanently?
00:58:52 --> 00:58:56 TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
00:58:57 --> 00:59:04 Would you be able to somehow function with those sites going down permanently?
00:59:04 --> 00:59:09 Do you think you'd be able to do everything that you're doing and still be able
00:59:09 --> 00:59:11 to function without those sites?
00:59:13 --> 00:59:17 And Dave, I'm going to say yes. Because, you know, I learned a long time ago,
00:59:17 --> 00:59:20 you can't have all your irons in one fire.
00:59:21 --> 00:59:26 So luckily, well, you know, a portion of it will be some relief because,
00:59:26 --> 00:59:29 you know, with all these social medias and especially for anyone in business
00:59:29 --> 00:59:31 who feel like they have to post and have to do this,
00:59:32 --> 00:59:38 you know, not having that pressure is kind of like an ease for your mental state.
00:59:39 --> 00:59:41 But long story short, I mean, I think I'd be OK.
00:59:41 --> 00:59:45 You know, some stuff just would not be as readily available. but
00:59:45 --> 00:59:48 you know for me and i'm sure you remember like
00:59:48 --> 00:59:51 i still remember how we did stuff before social media
00:59:51 --> 00:59:55 now it would definitely feel barbaric to
00:59:55 --> 00:59:58 go back to websites emails phone calls
00:59:58 --> 01:00:01 and but you know now are
01:00:01 --> 01:00:04 you saying social media period so like okay are we switching
01:00:04 --> 01:00:07 to linkedin and fan base and all these other
01:00:07 --> 01:00:11 i know i know i listed those particular four
01:00:11 --> 01:00:14 because those are the major ones and i know
01:00:14 --> 01:00:17 yeah those are the ones that everybody use
01:00:17 --> 01:00:20 right you know so now so i
01:00:20 --> 01:00:24 mean linkedin you can still at linkedin linkedin is
01:00:24 --> 01:00:29 one of those linkedin is the less evil cousin to those four you know what i
01:00:29 --> 01:00:34 mean kind of like the the uh the rich cousin from the other side of the track
01:00:34 --> 01:00:40 yeah there you go yeah so i i don't have a problem that question you know if you still use LinkedIn,
01:00:41 --> 01:00:44 you know, that'd be, that'd be fine because LinkedIn doesn't do what these other
01:00:44 --> 01:00:46 ones do. So, you know what I mean?
01:00:47 --> 01:00:53 So, but no, those four are the ones that kind of keep the world going right now.
01:00:54 --> 01:00:59 So that's why I asked about those four. Yeah. What about you, Dave?
01:01:00 --> 01:01:06 TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, if they disappeared off the face of the
01:01:06 --> 01:01:09 earth right now, how bad and how long would you cry?
01:01:12 --> 01:01:17 How bad and how long would I cry? I would be upset.
01:01:17 --> 01:01:21 I ain't going to lie. I would be upset if I didn't have access to those.
01:01:21 --> 01:01:27 I mean, because out of those four, probably the one I'm on the most is Facebook.
01:01:28 --> 01:01:31 Then probably after facebook probably,
01:01:35 --> 01:01:38 probably the other three are all about the same so
01:01:38 --> 01:01:45 facebook is the one i probably spend the most time on so i you know you're talking
01:01:45 --> 01:01:51 to an old school guy man you know you know it's just like a cell phone period
01:01:51 --> 01:01:57 or any type of electronic device you know i i kind of lumped them into the whole thing as well.
01:01:58 --> 01:02:05 I know that I lived without them at one time, and I'm sure I could live without them again.
01:02:07 --> 01:02:14 I was around for most of my life was spent before cell phones became to where they are now.
01:02:15 --> 01:02:18 And a lot of my life was spent prior to social media.
01:02:18 --> 01:02:21 I think the thing that would probably
01:02:21 --> 01:02:25 be the hardest for me is if
01:02:25 --> 01:02:32 we didn't have access to the internet you know because the internet is very
01:02:32 --> 01:02:37 important for life these days but as far as the social media sites i know many
01:02:37 --> 01:02:42 people who are don't aren't on any of these sites and they still seem to function.
01:02:43 --> 01:02:45 You know, they function pretty well. Yeah.
01:02:46 --> 01:02:54 So I think I can get along without having to be on one of those sites.
01:02:54 --> 01:02:56 I would miss them. I ain't gonna lie.
01:02:57 --> 01:03:00 Communication-wise, they definitely make things easier.
01:03:01 --> 01:03:10 Especially, you know, like I found people that I hadn't seen for years and met
01:03:10 --> 01:03:16 people that I didn't know basically because of sites like Facebook and those types of sites. And...
01:03:17 --> 01:03:22 That's been a plus, and it would make things harder in being able to talk to
01:03:22 --> 01:03:27 people since people aren't verbal anymore, and people communicate through these type of sites.
01:03:28 --> 01:03:33 But could I survive without them? Yes, I feel I could. I don't think I would have to have them.
01:03:34 --> 01:03:38 Yes, it would be hard, but I don't think I would have to have them.
01:03:39 --> 01:03:42 That's my answer. Okay. Yeah, so.
01:03:43 --> 01:03:48 Folks, what do you think? What do you think? Do you think you can get along
01:03:48 --> 01:03:52 without those particular sites, especially those particular four sites?
01:03:52 --> 01:03:58 Because those are the sites that seem to kind of govern our lives these days.
01:03:58 --> 01:04:04 So we would definitely, it would definitely be hard if you, I know for myself,
01:04:04 --> 01:04:07 to not have them available at my fingertips.
01:04:07 --> 01:04:13 As we saw with what happened with TikTok this past weekend, people just freaked out. So, you know, so.
01:04:13 --> 01:04:17 But give us your thoughts. You know, share them with us, you know,
01:04:17 --> 01:04:21 you can share them on our news and trends page on Facebook or,
01:04:22 --> 01:04:24 you know, on our pages individually.
01:04:24 --> 01:04:29 Like I always get comments, you know, after people look at, listen to the show.
01:04:29 --> 01:04:32 So definitely let us know your thoughts.
01:04:32 --> 01:04:40 You can go, you know, you can go to our Apple podcasts and list your thoughts
01:04:40 --> 01:04:44 as far as that's concerned or go to Instagram and put your thoughts down.
01:04:44 --> 01:04:51 So, but anyway, we definitely want to thank you guys for taking the time to listen to us.
01:04:52 --> 01:04:56 And especially with us recording on Martin Luther King's birthday,
01:04:56 --> 01:05:03 we definitely wanted to make this definitely with the backdrop of keeping in
01:05:03 --> 01:05:11 mind about all that he did for us and how we really truly appreciated the man, the myth, the legend.
01:05:12 --> 01:05:17 Anything you want to add there? Yes. You know, I just want to end with a famous
01:05:17 --> 01:05:22 quote of Martin Luther King and one that I personally, one of my favorites.
01:05:22 --> 01:05:27 And the quote goes, darkness cannot drive out darkness.
01:05:27 --> 01:05:33 Only light can do that. And of course, for anyone who's not sure what that means,
01:05:33 --> 01:05:37 it means that almost like evil can't fix evil.
01:05:37 --> 01:05:43 Only goodness can fix evil. So just want to let that be something to ponder
01:05:43 --> 01:05:47 for the day and take about you on your journey on this cold,
01:05:48 --> 01:05:50 depending on where you are, Martin Luther King Day.
01:05:51 --> 01:05:54 Yeah. How about that? We need to send that to our new president.
01:05:57 --> 01:06:01 OK, well, there you have it. That's our story. And we're sticking to it,
01:06:02 --> 01:06:04 guys. So we really appreciate you all.
01:06:05 --> 01:06:12 Thank you again for always supporting us and joining in to listen to another
01:06:12 --> 01:06:19 episode and another informative session of News and Trends with Dave and Lynn.
01:06:19 --> 01:06:24 So until the next time, you guys have a good night and we'll talk to you soon.
01:06:30 --> 01:06:36 Join us next week for another edition Of News and Trends With your host Dave M.
