[00:00:00] All right, y'all, get ready for another edition of News and Trendz with your host, Dave

[00:00:19] and Len.

[00:00:49] I'm John Yoos, Mr. David Coker hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young.

[00:00:53] I am a promoter, man about town, a prior to Dave Mark Inc., and yeah, just a good guy.

[00:01:02] That's all I am, just a good guy hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young, like I said what's going on sir?

[00:01:07] Hey Dave, everything's good.

[00:01:08] This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black God, Delaware Black dot com, black media specialist,

[00:01:15] all around good guy, Dave everything's good. How was your weekend?

[00:01:19] It was good, made it through, that's always a good thing, get through the weekend.

[00:01:27] Man, we used that crazy Sunday man, whether that hit Sunday, did you see it?

[00:01:35] Well, you know, Monday's our blow, what happened all Sunday?

[00:01:38] We had that that's wall that came through, that snow and everything.

[00:01:43] Did you see that?

[00:01:44] Oh yeah, you know I was at on my son's football banquet and we were at the test of

[00:01:50] be canal or you know damn there.

[00:01:53] Yeah, but you know it's funny, we were looking out the window and it was weird because I looked out

[00:01:59] and I was like man, it doesn't look like snow and then I googled and it said snow.

[00:02:04] And then the suns came out started shining.

[00:02:07] Yeah, yeah, that was that was crazy.

[00:02:11] It was crazy.

[00:02:13] We got we got all four seasons and one day right there.

[00:02:18] Yeah, it was it was crazy because I had gone to church, I left church, I got home around three

[00:02:25] because my mechanic was supposed to do, he was coming by to do my oil change.

[00:02:31] And I was like, I told him I'd be home around three and he you know, he said okay, well

[00:02:38] I'll be by around four and let the car cool down and everything I'll be by around four.

[00:02:43] So he knocked on my door around four o'clock.

[00:02:45] I opened the door man.

[00:02:47] I said, what the hell?

[00:02:48] Because I didn't know what was going on.

[00:02:50] It was snowing and then right as we were standing there talking it started sleeting and hailing.

[00:02:58] And then I said, oh, it was all in a matter of minutes right?

[00:03:01] And he said yeah, he said and it was great because it was sunny when I went into house.

[00:03:06] It was gray outside and everything.

[00:03:08] And I was like, well, what?

[00:03:10] I don't even remember saying this forecast.

[00:03:12] He said yeah, kind of came out of nowhere and you know, I said you still going to do the car.

[00:03:17] He said no, I'm here now.

[00:03:18] I'll go ahead and do the car.

[00:03:19] You know, and then why would like I said man, it went from sleep to hell and then it started raining.

[00:03:25] And then I said, yeah, it was like that's crazy.

[00:03:28] You know and then he knocked on my door when he was finished and it was sunny again.

[00:03:33] Yeah, that's crazy.

[00:03:34] Yeah, yeah.

[00:03:35] And that evening it got very cold too cold.

[00:03:38] Yeah, day and cold.

[00:03:39] Yeah, yesterday was windy thing.

[00:03:41] It was cold and windy yesterday too.

[00:03:43] So but today,

[00:03:45] 60 something degrees today.

[00:03:47] Yeah, it's about 70.

[00:03:49] It's about the week.

[00:03:50] It's about a couple days and 70 degree well as this week, too.

[00:03:53] Yeah, I saw that.

[00:03:54] I feel like they said Thursday, kind of like a Thursday and Friday and then kind of plateau at 60 something again.

[00:04:02] Yeah, yeah.

[00:04:03] So I guess bringing you this is definitely coming so almost here.

[00:04:07] So we got we get the time to change already.

[00:04:11] So we go with that right now.

[00:04:13] So you know,

[00:04:15] a lot of people tend to like this time of year when the state lights later.

[00:04:19] You know, so that's good.

[00:04:21] But other than that man,

[00:04:24] didn't do anything.

[00:04:26] I know you did the big Oscar thing this weekend.

[00:04:29] You and our favorite DJ.

[00:04:32] I guess I'm Mr. Tim.

[00:04:34] Tim Bired of DJ Tim Dove with.

[00:04:37] Yeah, how do you.

[00:04:39] Yeah, no, I mean,

[00:04:40] you already know how Tim does Tim.

[00:04:42] I can't wait to rock out.

[00:04:44] And then it was all because hosted by sweet friend, Sean.

[00:04:48] So actually, we got her on the show too.

[00:04:51] I mean, we got put on that list.

[00:04:53] Yeah.

[00:04:54] Yeah.

[00:04:55] How do you get friends?

[00:04:57] You said what?

[00:04:59] How do you get friends?

[00:05:00] Oh, no, was that you or was that?

[00:05:02] Well, I mean, you know,

[00:05:04] portion of some of everybody,

[00:05:06] portion of everybody,

[00:05:07] portion of,

[00:05:08] portion of,

[00:05:09] portion of,

[00:05:10] portion of,

[00:05:11] yeah,

[00:05:12] portion of,

[00:05:13] portion of done PR for franchise.

[00:05:14] I mean,

[00:05:15] you know,

[00:05:16] I mean,

[00:05:17] they've been known each other.

[00:05:18] So Dave,

[00:05:19] I mean, to be honest,

[00:05:20] you were the only one who wasn't there.

[00:05:22] You know, I'm just saying.

[00:05:23] Here we go.

[00:05:24] Just saying.

[00:05:25] I was the near watcher.

[00:05:26] No, he wasn't the,

[00:05:27] I don't know if I want to say that,

[00:05:29] but it was, you know,

[00:05:30] the nominees were also not as diverse as last year's nominees.

[00:05:36] So,

[00:05:37] you know,

[00:05:38] but I'm glad that

[00:05:40] the young lady from Philadelphia is divine.

[00:05:43] Um,

[00:05:44] Brown.

[00:05:45] That's what I was saying, Brown.

[00:05:46] Right?

[00:05:47] Divine Brown,

[00:05:48] um, one for,

[00:05:49] I mean, she basically went all the words as she's

[00:05:52] nominated for it.

[00:05:53] So that's great.

[00:05:54] And

[00:05:55] Temple,

[00:05:56] along, right?

[00:05:57] I think she's a temple of love.

[00:05:59] And,

[00:06:00] uh,

[00:06:02] Mr. Coleman Domingo was nominated,

[00:06:04] but he didn't plan it.

[00:06:05] But, you know,

[00:06:06] or Rustin,

[00:06:07] movie Rustin.

[00:06:08] I'm finding out more and more about

[00:06:10] Rustin as it goes along to it.

[00:06:13] But, you know,

[00:06:14] have you heard more about him since that movie came out?

[00:06:19] No.

[00:06:20] I don't know who Coleman Domingo is and I never heard of Rustin.

[00:06:23] We talked about this.

[00:06:24] We talked about Coleman Domingo when we had,

[00:06:27] uh,

[00:06:28] when we had our guests on last,

[00:06:29] and we've been seeing Coleman Domingo.

[00:06:31] He's in the color purple

[00:06:33] and he played,

[00:06:34] um,

[00:06:35] um, Rustin and that whoopie Rustin.

[00:06:38] Uh,

[00:06:39] and, you know, he was the one who kind of architect, um,

[00:06:44] the whole March on Marsha.

[00:06:46] For Dr. K.

[00:06:48] Okay.

[00:06:49] But then,

[00:06:51] because of his lifestyle,

[00:06:54] because he was gay,

[00:06:56] he got pushed out of everything

[00:06:59] and he kind of became a footnote in history because of it.

[00:07:04] But, um,

[00:07:05] yeah, I didn't know that backstory until,

[00:07:07] you know, recently,

[00:07:09] when the movie came out,

[00:07:10] and then there's a series on, um,

[00:07:14] Netflix, I think it is called MLK,

[00:07:18] um, Malcolm and Malcolm.

[00:07:21] No, MLK and X.

[00:07:23] That's what it's called.

[00:07:24] And it's a series about young Malcolm

[00:07:28] and Martin Luther King

[00:07:31] when they were coming up

[00:07:34] and just starting out in their,

[00:07:36] you know, they're a power,

[00:07:38] you know, and becoming who they were.

[00:07:40] You know?

[00:07:41] And the guy Rustin is in this series

[00:07:45] and you can see how he was him

[00:07:49] and Dr. King were real good buddies

[00:07:51] and so forth, but Dr. King kind of dismissed them

[00:07:54] because he,

[00:07:55] because of his lifestyle.

[00:07:58] Right.

[00:07:59] Yeah.

[00:08:00] But it was interesting.

[00:08:01] But, you know,

[00:08:02] a little history fact for,

[00:08:04] for folks who are listening, you know,

[00:08:06] because always got to school

[00:08:08] and they're there right now.

[00:08:09] And about some stuff.

[00:08:10] All right,

[00:08:11] let me just backtrack a little bit

[00:08:13] because you, um,

[00:08:14] you've really skipped over the part

[00:08:15] why you ain't come?

[00:08:16] You should have come on out.

[00:08:17] Uh,

[00:08:18] uh,

[00:08:19] uh,

[00:08:20] uh,

[00:08:21] uh,

[00:08:22] uh,

[00:08:23] um,

[00:08:24] for our news and trans audience,

[00:08:25] you see how Dave just tried to,

[00:08:27] he took you on a story away from the question.

[00:08:29] You did call me out on that.

[00:08:31] Well,

[00:08:32] because I was home,

[00:08:33] I was home,

[00:08:34] man, I was chilling, man, you know,

[00:08:36] uh,

[00:08:37] and look,

[00:08:38] you know,

[00:08:39] come on out like you,

[00:08:40] you know,

[00:08:41] if I know all those celebrities

[00:08:42] who are going to be there,

[00:08:43] French home is there.

[00:08:44] I was,

[00:08:45] I would've been there, man.

[00:08:46] I didn't know French home was hosted.

[00:08:47] And I would have been there just

[00:08:49] just to hang out in the place,

[00:08:50] you know,

[00:08:51] because all your celebrities

[00:08:52] are going to be there.

[00:08:53] And Dave,

[00:08:54] you always say,

[00:08:55] oh,

[00:08:56] Leonard,

[00:08:57] you never invite me.

[00:08:59] Look at that.

[00:09:00] I invite you to what happened.

[00:09:01] Dave,

[00:09:02] you know,

[00:09:03] it's almost as bad

[00:09:04] as when I invited you

[00:09:05] to my house and you overslept.

[00:09:06] You know,

[00:09:07] I'm just saying,

[00:09:08] okay,

[00:09:09] but whatever.

[00:09:10] I'm not going to comment about that anyway.

[00:09:12] And Dave,

[00:09:13] can I make a brief announcement?

[00:09:14] I just saw something real quick.

[00:09:15] This is not a topic

[00:09:16] we talked about.

[00:09:17] And I don't need to talk about it at all.

[00:09:18] I just want to comment.

[00:09:19] Did you see that your boy,

[00:09:20] Bishop,

[00:09:21] I'm going to tell you

[00:09:22] that you're going to

[00:09:23] be there.

[00:09:24] I'm going to tell you

[00:09:25] that you're going to be there.

[00:09:27] You're going to tell me

[00:09:28] that you're going to tell me

[00:09:29] what happened.

[00:09:30] Did you see that your boy,

[00:09:31] Bishop,

[00:09:32] Lamar,

[00:09:33] Whitehead,

[00:09:34] Fail and Guilty

[00:09:35] of Milk and Church,

[00:09:36] remember?

[00:09:37] 90,000 dollars,

[00:09:38] faces up to 45 years ago.

[00:09:39] Yeah,

[00:09:40] yes,

[00:09:41] so um,

[00:09:42] yeah,

[00:09:43] we may have to talk

[00:09:44] about that next week.

[00:09:45] But I just saw

[00:09:46] it.

[00:09:47] Headline.

[00:09:48] And they found them guilty,

[00:09:49] huh?

[00:09:50] Yeah,

[00:09:51] yeah.

[00:09:52] They found them guilty.

[00:09:53] Yeah.

[00:09:54] He loves being in the news, but I guess he didn't want to be in the news for this.

[00:09:59] So, wow. Yeah, I guess we will be talking about that next show.

[00:10:04] So, yeah. All right. Well, speaking of talking about things,

[00:10:10] I guess we got a few things to talk about tonight.

[00:10:13] So, I guess we'll go ahead and get started with what we got tonight.

[00:10:19] I'm a, the first story. I'm going to do this first story.

[00:10:24] Proposed bill will allow mothers to collect child support during pregnancy.

[00:10:30] I found this really interesting when I saw all this story.

[00:10:32] So, I just wanted to share with the people and with you to see how people feel about this.

[00:10:40] It says there's a new proposed bill that will allow some mothers to receive child support from

[00:10:46] the time they become pregnant.

[00:10:49] This is a Kentucky Senate bill that will allow certain mothers to seek child support

[00:10:57] to retroactively receive it from for the nine months they were pregnant.

[00:11:04] Kentucky State Senator Whitney Websterfield said, says I believe that light begins at confession.

[00:11:13] But even if you don't, there's no question that our obligations.

[00:11:20] There are no questions that there are obligations and costs involved with having a child before that child is born.

[00:11:27] The Senate there also listed tons of expenses that family had from his wife's pregnancy.

[00:11:33] We got health insurance and our got a stack of bills with co-pays and premiums.

[00:11:39] And so forth on my desk right now that I'll be paying tonight electronically.

[00:11:47] So, I know that there are costs involved and that before we even get to buying three cars seats

[00:11:56] and three of everything else between now and when these babies share up,

[00:12:01] to just be a proposed bill everywhere is what the question is.

[00:12:07] Do you think that a woman should receive child support during her pregnancy?

[00:12:18] Yes, and no.

[00:12:22] All right, well get both sides of your answer.

[00:12:26] I mean, I understand where they're coming from because if there's a woman who gets pregnant

[00:12:31] and let's say the man is not in ball and she's paying all the bills,

[00:12:37] she's paying rides back to four, she's has all these doctor appointments.

[00:12:44] She's probably buying stuff getting ready for the baby when the baby gets there.

[00:12:49] So, I do kind of understand how people can feel that way.

[00:12:58] But on the other hand, you know, I...

[00:13:04] And David, this is speaking from my man's point.

[00:13:07] I'm sorry, a man's point of view, not my point of view.

[00:13:11] So, you know...

[00:13:13] Not your man's point of view, okay?

[00:13:16] So, you know, in fact, what I'm gonna do...

[00:13:18] I'm gonna speak from Dave Coker's point of view.

[00:13:21] And if I say anything that's offensive or disregarding,

[00:13:26] you can call and text...

[00:13:27] You know, just like when it was at birth, they call, text them,

[00:13:30] Facebook them with your disappointment.

[00:13:35] But, you know, for a man's point of view,

[00:13:38] you know, I think it's kind of hard because...

[00:13:46] Okay, you know, I'm not gonna get Dave and tell him...

[00:13:48] I'm just gonna stick with it, yes.

[00:13:51] But now we'll say...

[00:13:55] I think people should be...

[00:13:57] Yeah, they definitely will have to be a punk out.

[00:14:02] But I think there has to be some type of difference.

[00:14:06] So, I'm not sure what that difference is,

[00:14:09] but I don't think it should be the same amount...

[00:14:12] And I'm probably even wrong for saying that.

[00:14:14] I don't think it should be the same amount prior to the baby

[00:14:17] than after the baby.

[00:14:19] But oh, and I'm sorry.

[00:14:21] What I do not like about it is charging back to it.

[00:14:25] You know, I think...

[00:14:27] So, I do think that the mother is deserving.

[00:14:32] But Dave, I mean, if someone hit me with some backpay,

[00:14:37] okay, here's the baby, your child support is this.

[00:14:40] And now we're gonna charge you...

[00:14:42] We're gonna have back charge you for nine months of payments.

[00:14:45] I don't think that's fair because, you know,

[00:14:48] a lot of people are struggling right now.

[00:14:50] No, so...

[00:14:52] Okay.

[00:14:53] All right.

[00:14:54] What about you, Dave?

[00:14:55] What is it you want to do?

[00:14:56] No, no, no.

[00:14:57] I know you do.

[00:14:58] I have to do what I thought.

[00:14:59] Well, I kind of agree with something that you just said in reference to...

[00:15:06] The amount that should be charged.

[00:15:10] If there was come to pass and it was gonna be a requirement in every state,

[00:15:18] I don't think the amount should be what would normally be charged if the child...

[00:15:25] When the child is born, I mean, you know,

[00:15:28] into the child that's physically here.

[00:15:32] As far as doing pregnancy and so forth, of course, you know...

[00:15:42] We don't know what's going to happen until the child gets here.

[00:15:47] You know what I'm saying?

[00:15:48] So, the amount should be adjusted amount.

[00:15:52] Like, if you know that this child wants the child gets to here,

[00:15:57] you got to pay $500 a month in child support.

[00:16:03] Excuse me.

[00:16:04] In child support, then it should be half of that or less than half of that prior to the child getting there,

[00:16:16] if you follow what I'm saying.

[00:16:18] Right.

[00:16:21] It's for... You know, it's kind of a tricky thing for me because I see and deal with pregnant women,

[00:16:32] child support, that type of stuff on a regular basis every day.

[00:16:37] And first of all, I find it really a surprise on how many women that we deal with on a regular basis

[00:16:47] that have one or more children that do not get child support from the fathers.

[00:16:56] By choice and to be concerned, don't seem to be concerned about it.

[00:17:00] You know?

[00:17:01] You know, I told Susan Maiye today, I asked her,

[00:17:06] are you getting child support?

[00:17:08] And she said, no, I said, have you ever filed the child support?

[00:17:12] She said, no, I'm taking it myself.

[00:17:15] That would never happen to me.

[00:17:17] You know, I would try to get it out of me.

[00:17:19] I was like, why wouldn't you try to get child support?

[00:17:22] You know, that's what I'm thinking about myself.

[00:17:25] You got six kids and you know, you're struggling because I'm talking to you.

[00:17:31] You know, you know what I do.

[00:17:33] I mean the reason that you're talking to me is because you have an hardship, a little bit of a hardship.

[00:17:40] So why aren't you not getting, why are you not getting child support?

[00:17:46] Right.

[00:17:47] So if there's, I just feel that if they were going to do it,

[00:17:54] that there should be, you know, certain amount of,

[00:17:57] but then we also have to be careful.

[00:17:59] We can't add people abusing the system and getting pregnant just to get money out of the, the fathers.

[00:18:06] So why would anybody ever do that?

[00:18:08] I don't know.

[00:18:09] It's just seemed like a wild story that somebody would even think of something like that, huh?

[00:18:14] Right.

[00:18:15] Yeah.

[00:18:16] You know, you see the big news, you know, grandmitches up.

[00:18:23] Yeah.

[00:18:24] You saw what she did, right?

[00:18:26] Yeah.

[00:18:27] I saw four or three.

[00:18:29] Yeah.

[00:18:30] I mean, you know, 39 year, her son is the same age as her.

[00:18:35] I know.

[00:18:36] That's that.

[00:18:37] That's what kind of that's that we're kind of.

[00:18:40] It's crazy.

[00:18:41] You know, and just think if he would have to pay child support during her pregnancy,

[00:18:47] you know, I must see probably with it because he's an MBA principal.

[00:18:51] You imagine how much that child support would be during her pregnancy.

[00:18:55] Oh yeah.

[00:18:56] Grim.

[00:18:57] Yeah.

[00:18:58] So that's the only thing.

[00:19:01] I think that, you know, these type of bills and stuff they mean well.

[00:19:11] But then it almost, it goes back to that old axiom that we had to deal with a couple years ago when they started,

[00:19:19] you know, talking about the abortion.

[00:19:23] You know, and I know all that stuff.

[00:19:26] And you know, and taking the, you know, taking the choice away from the women.

[00:19:30] Here we go with another choice that becomes a bill instead of an,

[00:19:39] and a decision that's made by a bunch of well, a lot of men.

[00:19:47] You know, I mean, you know, there's some women in there but there's mostly men

[00:19:51] that are making these choices.

[00:19:53] Right.

[00:19:54] Again, you know, so folks, I mean, you know, we have a lot of women to listen to the show.

[00:20:02] To be interesting to hear what you guys think about this.

[00:20:05] And right now, like I said, this is happening in Kentucky.

[00:20:09] But there's a possibility if it happens in Kentucky and becomes something

[00:20:14] that looks like it's working well.

[00:20:16] It could be more and more states could be doing it and following along.

[00:20:21] So it is, you know, so you know, be interesting to see what you guys think about this.

[00:20:27] And get some feedback as far as that's concerned.

[00:20:30] That's the women out there that listen to the show.

[00:20:33] All right.

[00:20:35] Okay.

[00:20:36] Go ahead with the next story.

[00:20:39] Yep, so Dave, then the next story is one that just came out recently.

[00:20:42] So it says that a black woman says that her boss told her that she was too articulate

[00:20:50] to be promoted.

[00:20:52] Does that sound crazy?

[00:20:54] Yeah, sounds crazy.

[00:20:56] I did see the story.

[00:20:58] So there's a lady in North Carolina.

[00:21:00] She was turned down for her job.

[00:21:03] The boss, I guess exact words were articulate and sharp.

[00:21:07] That she was too articulate and too sharp.

[00:21:11] Her name is Chantelle Adams.

[00:21:13] She's a marketing executive who earned her NBA from University of North Carolina.

[00:21:19] Keenan Flagler Business School.

[00:21:22] She said that she's always faced challenges earning promotions despite her qualifications.

[00:21:30] So she said that she was once denied a promotion because her boss said that in her words,

[00:21:38] I was so articulate and sharp that it was intimidating to some people.

[00:21:45] She then states that she's has over or has had $300,000 in post education that.

[00:21:56] So why would it be surprising to see this so articulate and sharp with all that college that she had paid for?

[00:22:06] So, you know, of course she thinks it's unfair or some reasonable.

[00:22:12] She does consider that race based.

[00:22:16] And so the funny thing is she did not list who the employer was.

[00:22:22] That's one thing I was looking at.

[00:22:24] I know you read the article.

[00:22:25] Did you see anything about who that employer was?

[00:22:27] I didn't concentrate on the actual employer.

[00:22:32] So I did not see the employer was.

[00:22:35] Yeah, so I think it's interesting.

[00:22:41] And you know, not a thing against her but I can't see there being some jobs where if you are intimidating to the other now,

[00:22:54] the question is, are you intimidating because you're black or are you intimidating because of your personality or whatever.

[00:23:02] So I mean, that's the part we don't know.

[00:23:04] You're also getting one other.

[00:23:07] What was intimidating because she's a woman.

[00:23:10] Right, exactly.

[00:23:12] So now, if it's a bias free atmosphere and maybe she's intimidating because she's,

[00:23:22] you know, maybe type A or, you know, honor game or I don't know.

[00:23:28] But long story short, if she's not able to lead people then I can see that now if it has anything to do with race, gender, or combination, or, you know, whatever,

[00:23:41] then, you know, then that definitely does seem like something different.

[00:23:44] What are your thoughts?

[00:23:46] Well, my thoughts are this.

[00:23:48] I think that if a person uses those exact words that she said, I mean, that she said what said and that you read earlier that those are the words that are words that are being used.

[00:24:04] But they're not the words that they're actually thinking.

[00:24:07] Right.

[00:24:08] You know what I mean?

[00:24:10] It's just like, you know, we get caught up today in not, you know, we.

[00:24:18] The only person that says what they want to say is Trump, but that's a whole other story.

[00:24:22] But we get caught up in trying not to offend people or trying not to get caught up or get canceled because of the things that we truly want to say to a person.

[00:24:32] With another way of saying them that will allow you to be able to get away with what you're saying.

[00:24:40] In this case, this particular employer, you know, said what he said.

[00:24:46] Or, you know, in reference to not hiring this person for the position because they felt.

[00:24:56] I'm sure it was intimidated.

[00:24:58] I'm sure that they might have felt threatened that this person can come in and become their boss or whatever the case may be.

[00:25:06] Or maybe she just had a strong, she has a strong personality that comes across that way.

[00:25:12] Because there are some people that vary, that are very in your face.

[00:25:17] You know, and you know, they're aggressively in your face, meaning that there's not so much that they're being spirited or anything.

[00:25:27] They're just a hard driving person, you know what I mean?

[00:25:31] And that can, that can be misconstrued sometimes and be taken the wrong way.

[00:25:41] If you felt that this, you know, I felt that they should have been more honest with how they really felt about what was really going on.

[00:25:52] Because of course we won't know the story because we're only here in one side of the story first of all.

[00:25:57] We don't know what the other side is. Of course there's always two sides.

[00:26:01] And usually when you hear people come out saying things like that is usually a reason behind it or, you know, a lack of reasons for it.

[00:26:15] I was watching something the other day.

[00:26:18] I don't know if you saw and I'm only bringing this up to kind of add to add a point to what we are just said.

[00:26:29] The other day did you see the big thing that happened with the South Carolina women's basketball team? There was a fight.

[00:26:38] Did you see that I heard about it?

[00:26:42] And I heard very brief.

[00:26:46] So there was a big fight to happen on the floor. Dawn Staley, or you know from Philly and Coast South Carolina.

[00:26:57] She got, you know, he at the end of the day ended up winning the game.

[00:27:01] They're the number one team in the country. They ended up winning the game and right away when they tried to talk to her about winning it was their conference championship.

[00:27:11] They tried to talk to her about winning their eighth championship. The first thing she did was apologize to everybody.

[00:27:17] She said, this is not what we wanted to show and this is not what we wanted to do.

[00:27:23] And so forth. It's very grace is very classy. So forth. Dawn Staley is the black woman.

[00:27:31] The coach of the other team who won three championships. She was Brittany Griner's old coach back in the day Kim Mulkey.

[00:27:41] Does a press conference?

[00:27:44] And you remember Angel Reese, the young lady from LSU that, okay, okay.

[00:27:50] Well, did the press conference because there was a young lady that got stabbed in the game and whatever Dawn Staley center shot this young lady who's shorter than her.

[00:28:03] The first thing that, you know, that Mulkey says one of the things she says I wish he had stabbed Angel Reese because when they went down that way, she shoved Angel Reese.

[00:28:18] She picked the person the right person to sell because if he shoved Angel, it was gone down.

[00:28:24] Why are you going to say that?

[00:28:27] Why would you say something now Dawn has gracefully gone on or couple, you know, she must apologize like two or three times after they game about the contact of her team and what happened.

[00:28:39] Even her player, the main girl who was involved even went on Twitter and put a public apology out there to her school and to the other team which was Tennessee.

[00:28:53] And that's Kim Mulkey saying I wish she would have shoved Angel Reese.

[00:28:59] You know, but this is tells you about perception and what people say in order to try to deflect from who they really are like because Shannon sharp goes on TV and just goes on a rant talking about Kim Mulkey and how it was, you know, it was a disgrace.

[00:29:19] You shouldn't have said that you're coaching kids and here I wouldn't send my child to come play for you because you, you know, you have that type of mentality.

[00:29:29] Dawn is out there being gracious and classy and everything you out here trying to instigate a fight.

[00:29:36] He said, I'm going to tell it like it is only reason and you should be fine and you should be suspended because you are out here instigating fights.

[00:29:46] He said you have said some horrible things over the years like she.

[00:29:50] She want to talk about Brittany Griner because of one thing, you know what that is.

[00:29:56] Because she said.

[00:29:59] You know, when Brittany was in jail, she didn't want to talk about Brittany Griner.

[00:30:03] She was her, she won a championship with Brittany Griner.

[00:30:08] And it's dark came out of the set.

[00:30:10] You know what it is? Everybody knows they just won't say it.

[00:30:13] He said, I'll say it. She white.

[00:30:16] That's what happened because she would get away with it.

[00:30:22] Sometimes we say things that we can get away with because we feel comfortable in being able to do that exactly which is get away with things.

[00:30:31] So if this went down the way that I said all that to say, if this went down the way that she said it went down.

[00:30:40] And it was only because the person who said what they said.

[00:30:45] So they can get away with it because of whoever they are.

[00:30:49] Can't say who they are at the moment because I don't know.

[00:30:52] Right.

[00:30:53] You know, and like I said.

[00:30:57] And it all depends on the person who involved.

[00:31:02] If she has a strong personality and she is the person that.

[00:31:08] You know, then your face or whatever the case may be.

[00:31:11] Then that could be another reason they felt that way.

[00:31:15] So. But I guess if there's any more to the story that will show up, I guess we'll see it.

[00:31:22] Because it definitely without there because I wrongly focus usually.

[00:31:27] Leonard and I don't usually pick the same story, we're usually pretty good with that.

[00:31:33] But I actually had that story.

[00:31:35] Myself that I was going to talk about tonight and then I decided not to and then Leonard had it.

[00:31:41] So because it struck a chord with both of us apparently so and I'm sure if you see it out there, you probably think the same thing.

[00:31:48] But we'll see what happens.

[00:31:50] We'll see what happens.

[00:31:53] All right.

[00:31:56] Moving on to our next story.

[00:31:59] You know, we don't get a good enough good stories.

[00:32:03] We got concentrate on getting.

[00:32:06] See like everything in the world is kind of crazy right now, right?

[00:32:10] Well, you know that the good stories don't make it far in the bad ones go worldwide and viral.

[00:32:15] I know.

[00:32:17] I was on my way to work this morning.

[00:32:19] Amanda Shields was talking about the couple that was in the storage unit.

[00:32:24] You know, he was talking about how you know that that was pretty cool that they were able to but they said these people in these phones.

[00:32:33] Tell them themselves all day long.

[00:32:37] Yeah, that's right. That's right.

[00:32:39] But anyway, we got a good story for you folks.

[00:32:41] You know every now and then we come up with one.

[00:32:44] So here's the good ones for you.

[00:32:46] Providence College students raised thousands to surprise best security guard on campus with a trip to Nigeria.

[00:32:56] It says the security guard recently got the surprise of a lifetime when the university students in Rhode Island raised thousands of dollars so he could see his family.

[00:33:06] According to WCV B five news.

[00:33:10] Providence College students online effort raised nearly $3,000 within 24 hours so their favorite person James could take a trip home to Nigeria to the visit his family and including his son.

[00:33:26] He told us a while ago that you wanted to see your family in Nigeria that you haven't seen in a long time.

[00:33:33] So we came together and spread the word and we started a go for me because we take care of our own and because that's what we do at Providence College says out more Daniel Singh.

[00:33:46] They've done that for me.

[00:33:48] We've done that for each other so now we're doing it for you.

[00:33:53] You're of the family so our gift to you is a trip to Nigeria.

[00:34:00] Singh and first year students bringing on records who help organize the go for me said raising funds for James was a no burner after they learned he hadn't seen his family in 11 years.

[00:34:14] The go for me to describe him as the best security guard at Providence and one of the nicest people you ever meet.

[00:34:25] During that he works for over night this weekly and does so with a smile.

[00:34:33] That's a now there's a story that's really cool because if you got that kind of effect on you've been on campus in you.

[00:34:43] You know you want to school and whatever.

[00:34:46] The people that work at the school that you see on a regular basis.

[00:34:52] Some of them become almost like friends to you because you're used to seeing it.

[00:34:58] And apparently this guy James had a great effect on the students there at Providence and they really support who he is and what he does there at the school.

[00:35:09] And they decided to do something nice for him.

[00:35:13] I think that's an awesome story and it's best of you knowing how you know, especially people like that are a days and you know the staff at the school even cafeteria work.

[00:35:27] I remember when I was in when I was in school there was a certain cafeteria lady used to always took me up.

[00:35:36] You know after food you know, you look hungry today.

[00:35:41] I was like, I do she said just this act like you're hungry.

[00:35:46] So when you beat those kind of people they have a lasting effect on you.

[00:35:53] I remember when I was in high school there were people like that in high school so.

[00:35:57] So that know that these kids got together and did something like that.

[00:36:02] I think it's really cool now. I just hope you know that there's no issues with him getting tonight or whatever but you imagine not seeing your family for 11 years.

[00:36:13] No, I can't.

[00:36:16] Yeah and it's not I guess there's nothing he can really do about it because it's not like it's that simple to just bring your whole family to the states.

[00:36:27] I guess he came here to you know, to try to do for you know to try to get them here at some point but you know that reason all that stuff that takes a long time.

[00:36:38] You know and you got it you know especially and it takes money to do it.

[00:36:44] But the fact that he gets to go home I know that of course I could have an adverse effect because you get home get to hang out with your people like that you may not want to come back.

[00:36:54] Yeah or you may get home and realize okay you don't need to come back. You don't need to come back home no more.

[00:37:02] Yeah, no that's what I'm saying yeah but the fact that they did that form I just thought it was a cool story and I saw that story after oh man this is great.

[00:37:13] That they would do something like that for him and I know that Providence College is a mixture you know they got it you know it's a very diversified school and.

[00:37:26] I know people that went there and so it's for them to do something like that and they raised that money in 24 hours that was pretty good yeah.

[00:37:37] They got money you know it reminded me like when you're talking about the story it made me think about when I was in college and I'm thinking about okay who stood out to me like he said there was a cafeteria lady.

[00:37:50] And to be honest she probably looked out for a lot of people but to me you know I felt special so much.

[00:37:56] She was you're you're you're you're you're girl right yeah and she looked out for me and then the person worked in our on campus post office because they my freshman year made freshman soft my year.

[00:38:08] My mind was sending me a goodie box every single week so I was up at the post office at least five times a month and the lady was just always very nice and you know all that so I can definitely see you know donating money and you know stuff like that for you know people people.

[00:38:25] People who are good people and deserving.

[00:38:30] Right right right and apparently he was deserving of it and it did make for a good thing that they did for him and I know he's probably going to be all.

[00:38:45] You know you go I'm not going to imagine it being very terrible and everything as well so you know so hopefully James gets there and has a great time.

[00:38:57] What's our next story.

[00:39:03] Big story.

[00:39:08] I don't know have you heard anything about these boycotts they're calling at certain schools for what they call DEI have you heard of the.

[00:39:24] Yes so the mayor of Birmingham a black guy I think it's a Randall Woodfinn he put out a statement saying no black people should attend any public Alabama high school I mean it's not as colleges until you know DEI changes so he put that out you know on his own behalf.

[00:39:50] Yeah yeah this is getting deep and this is getting real deep let me give you guys the backdrop of this now this is happening in Florida our favorite state by the way it's like every day always have to black and Florida so.

[00:40:05] So the NAACP called on black students and athletes boycott Florida public colleges over anti DEI policy.

[00:40:16] The head of the W and the NAACP is calling for calling on black student athletes to reconsider their decisions to attend public colleges and universities in Florida challenging a new state policy that bars those institutions from using government funds on diversity equity and inclusion programs that's what the I stand for folks.

[00:40:41] In a letter sent Monday to current if you just do an athletes of the national college athletic association or the NCAA as we know it and double ACP leader Derek Johnson that's interesting name Derek Johnson employer college down black athletes to choose wisely diversity equity and inclusion are paramount to ensuring equal.

[00:41:10] I can't speak right now I can't get the word up.

[00:41:15] Yeah I could get it out letter I could get it out and effective educational outcomes Johnson said in the statement accompanying the letter which was first reported by NBC news the value black and other college athletes bring to large universities is a match.

[00:41:38] Under governor our favorite governor Ryan the San since last year signed a bill that largely prohibits black public colleges and universities from using state and federal funds on programs commonly grouped together under the acronym DEI Johnson's letter was sent 10 days after the University of Florida eliminated.

[00:42:04] The equity inclusion positions in accordance with state rule a move that drew combination from NFL Hall of Famer and Smith a lump of the school who said on X that minority athletes there should be aware and vocal about this decision.

[00:42:25] He also said take the time to think about where you're signing if you choose to go to one of these schools.

[00:42:38] So this is really big we all know that certain sports.

[00:42:53] Make a lot of the money that come into a lot of these universities and on those certain sports teams.

[00:43:04] Majority or good part of my made up of black athletes.

[00:43:12] University of Florida is a big school.

[00:43:17] Lot of black athletes on their football teams on the best both team track team.

[00:43:25] You know all money makers.

[00:43:29] You just mentioned Alabama public schools and that we include the University of Alabama right.

[00:43:38] And we know who all burn all burn.

[00:43:43] Well, I'm taking about down there Alabama Birmingham all those schools down there.

[00:43:51] So you figure it this becomes a big thing in all these major states that had big time universities.

[00:44:02] That's not good.

[00:44:05] And but for those programs that will drive black athletes to start going to more of the HBCU.

[00:44:17] What do you think about that?

[00:44:20] So I mean, I think it's commendable.

[00:44:24] The question is can black athletes who want to go to the NFL, the NBA.

[00:44:34] Do they have enough willpower not to go to these big schools that are you know gateways to the to the pros and order to satisfy DEI which coming out of high school.

[00:44:51] And they may may not even care about.

[00:44:57] And and Dave, we already know you try to give all black people on one boat they ain't going.

[00:45:05] We're going to have our Tim Scott's and our Herman Cain's and I heart you know I mean.

[00:45:11] Yeah, I think it's hard because we have black people proving that we cannot all get along.

[00:45:20] And we're all going to have different views on this.

[00:45:25] So for I mean, you know and it's going to be hard for some blacks to walk away especially those that are making a lot of money in the NIL.

[00:45:38] Money's now like a person we just mentioned angel Reese in the last story angel Reese makes or anywhere from a million to two million dollars.

[00:45:48] And just NIL money from being at LSU.

[00:45:53] She is eligible to play to go to the NBA and the next NBA WNBA draft.

[00:46:00] She's eligible to go to the WNBA in the next draft.

[00:46:04] She saw him out he made stay in school because he makes more money.

[00:46:08] Yeah, I mean it's crazy.

[00:46:11] But she's at LSU which would be like in you know if it was Louisiana that was thinking about doing something like this.

[00:46:19] This would be you know one of the schools that benefits from having a bunch of black athletes because they do have a bunch of black athletes on their best ball teams and their football team and all there matter fact even have you noticed.

[00:46:34] I don't know if you notice because I'll be flicking through the channels and I'll be watching some some of the gymnastics.

[00:46:41] You see how many black females are involved in gymnastics all of a sudden at these big schools.

[00:46:46] Yeah, I see they're on the come up.

[00:46:49] Yeah, I mean you got schools with like youth all that has a bunch of black girls.

[00:46:55] They you're youth all with I mean but then they're bringing these kids in the given them these scholarships.

[00:47:03] Now if this holds true with a lot of these schools and these athletes start to leave these schools what happens what's the programs right.

[00:47:15] You know you went to a big school you know you want to floor that and you know you know and you know you have black athletes there because you had to build that there.

[00:47:25] Yeah but no I mean I understand so it's kind of like for these Florida schools should people who are currently going there should they leave.

[00:47:34] Because you know you you mess around leave a school during.

[00:47:38] You know your four year period ain't no telling you know what your opportunities may be at other schools like you may have more you may have less you know I mean so.

[00:47:47] I think it's hard to I think it's hard to tell a high school student to be concerned about the when they're choosing their university.

[00:47:57] Right right I remember what was it like two years ago there was a young man who he did a signing.

[00:48:06] He was coming out of high school he signed his letter of the 10.

[00:48:11] I don't know if you remember this because it was a big story.

[00:48:14] It was like the number five or four recruit in the country that year.

[00:48:20] He was a wide receiver and his family were all big Alabama supporters I think he was from Alabama too.

[00:48:29] And they were all big Alabama supporters and so they got the hats on the table you got Alabama a couple of other schools and he goes and puts on a hat from the University of Florida and his mom walked out of the thing.

[00:48:45] Now you figure here's that guy you know he's in it he should be a junior upcoming junior if he hasn't reassured or anything does he stay at a school like that.

[00:49:01] You know you know does he continue to stay there with all this going on with the D. I stuff.

[00:49:08] You have to think about that maybe you know but then it's going on Alabama too so.

[00:49:15] You know I mean that's that's that's the big things I mean you know you got a son that's an athlete.

[00:49:21] You know you don't pay all that money all them years and yeah yeah I mean just look at your son when if he you know if he finally figured out okay this is what I want to do.

[00:49:34] I want to if you know he decides he wants to go to college and you know he has a chance that is scholarship and he wants to pick a big school.

[00:49:43] And this kind of stuff is going on at that school.

[00:49:46] Yeah I mean it's tough decisions yeah yeah there you go so but that's something that people need to pay attention to and keep following in case you have kids that are you know selling and sports and so forth.

[00:50:02] Pay attention to where they're going to school and make sure that you know they're not that they're not going to run in the problems because of the I at the school that they're true.

[00:50:14] So this one is bringing that to people's attention especially how big college sports are right now so.

[00:50:22] Alright I'm at the I'm going to keep that told that if you do it or go to the girls championship I mean just fun go to the girls championship game the other day for caravale no can you remember we were that swung me on Saturday.

[00:50:41] Yeah with the offset with a city with the offset about them.

[00:50:45] No so I mean really he really wasn't didn't care about the basketball game until he found out his friends were gone then he wanted to go so.

[00:50:54] I'm just gonna look caravale doing big things this year.

[00:50:58] Yeah I know trying to win everything okay.

[00:51:01] I mean they almost got it.

[00:51:04] They had a child that's all I told us I saw some highlights from the game to my add put them on put them on with your gone on Facebook.

[00:51:15] I may on Twitter on Twitter right and then of course over beat Sally's I mean I'm sure yeah and I think that score was close to I can't remember.

[00:51:24] Yeah it was it was a couple points or so yeah I saw that friend of mine went to the game he said that the rest kind of ended that gate to do over there who he said.

[00:51:37] He said it was a questionable call down the stretch though but you know that's Delaware for you anyway anyway alright I guess that brings us to our.

[00:51:50] Favorite part of the show that Lenin's favorite part of the show you know because he always try to duck my my questions all around so here we go alright it was off because week I figured this would be a good question give you.

[00:52:05] See if you can record bring because we know how much of a movie buff you are.

[00:52:11] So the days corner question is so we just had to ask her.

[00:52:19] So Leonard I want you to think of three movies from your pad that did not win the Oscar for best picture.

[00:52:26] So you can't use any picture any movie that has one Oscar already for best picture but in your opinion because you like it so much you felt that he should have won best picture.

[00:52:39] Alright so this is a terrible question I just want to put that out there you say it's terrible for multiple reasons because you're such a movie buff I know that's one of.

[00:52:54] So for one you're asking me to know the best pictures.

[00:53:00] So in your estimation from movies that you see.

[00:53:05] That you really enjoy what movie from what you see that you really enjoy.

[00:53:13] Would you give the night that's picture.

[00:53:19] But you're asking me to know which movies are best pictures so I'm not asking I'm talking about your favorite picture you make it as far as.

[00:53:29] Your favorite.

[00:53:31] That's the.

[00:53:32] No you don't have to know any movies that were best picture now I'm talking about your estimation of movies that you like that you felt were really really good movies.

[00:53:44] Probably gave Oscar to.

[00:53:47] So I probably say everything everywhere all at once that was really good really yeah okay that was an interesting picture that movie was crazy.

[00:54:01] They would jump and all over the place where yeah okay even though that was nominee for that wasn't nominated for best picture.

[00:54:12] I probably would say see.

[00:54:24] I'm gladiator that was always a classic.

[00:54:38] Gladiator.

[00:54:41] Black Panther that was dope.

[00:54:47] Yeah they original.

[00:54:49] I'll go part one in part two first one on the second.

[00:54:58] The usual suspects.

[00:55:02] Yeah last set.

[00:55:05] What was the thing that you didn't use it was I would never expect that to come out of your mouth but I mean that was just a great movie.

[00:55:13] Oh my gosh okay.

[00:55:15] Who are you.

[00:55:18] Okay.

[00:55:25] What was the movie the green mile.

[00:55:33] How many how many how many you don't ask about man they are.

[00:55:40] You were feeling you were feeling it man I'm.

[00:55:45] Got another one.

[00:55:48] Let me take it one more to knock you off each air.

[00:56:03] Well I mean that's cliche I'd best say the glory when best picture I don't know if it did or not.

[00:56:11] I don't think it was nominated.

[00:56:14] I don't think it was the one or best supporting actor.

[00:56:20] Yeah I don't think it was best picture right here.

[00:56:24] And then Dave let's say one of the best movie of all time.

[00:56:29] And I can't believe this one didn't win.

[00:56:33] I'm going to get you sucker.

[00:56:40] Yeah.

[00:56:43] Oh the genius.

[00:56:46] You sure you didn't want to put food hanging there too.

[00:56:51] But if we want to talk about the first scary movie yes I mean that's a great one.

[00:56:57] Okay that was a great one.

[00:57:00] Let's see y'all let him win on a roll then.

[00:57:05] I'm going to say this movie even though it was slammed by the critics it became like a call of call classic.

[00:57:31] I don't know if it's a movie or not.

[00:57:34] It's a movie of my talk about no.

[00:57:37] I'm not Friday.

[00:57:38] I ain't talking about Friday.

[00:57:41] What movie do you think I'm talking about drama?

[00:57:44] It's a drama not a comedy.

[00:57:46] Is it a black drama or white drama?

[00:57:49] More white yeah.

[00:57:52] It became a cult classic after it was slammed in the movies.

[00:57:57] I didn't want to the movies to see this picture when it first came out of it.

[00:58:00] No not politics.

[00:58:03] Scarface.

[00:58:06] I said more white and black.

[00:58:13] Where was a black in Scarface?

[00:58:17] There wasn't any that's why I said black.

[00:58:22] So Scarface was like one of the movies that when it's on you find yourself looking at it.

[00:58:32] You know what I mean?

[00:58:33] That type of thing because it has that type of fact.

[00:58:36] I say Scarface.

[00:58:38] I agree with the black panthers movies.

[00:58:46] Boys and a couple of them in there.

[00:58:50] That was a great coming of age movie.

[00:58:58] I was a big Paul Newman fan back in the day.

[00:59:01] I know that's a little bit before your time but he did a movie called The Ferdic.

[00:59:07] Very very good movie.

[00:59:09] It was about a lawyer that took on a big hospital over a woman that.

[00:59:19] Ended up paralyzed and died.

[00:59:24] So that was a great movie.

[00:59:26] The verdict.

[00:59:31] Trying to think also.

[00:59:36] The first arm man.

[00:59:39] And the reason I'm going to say that is because it really.

[00:59:46] Because of it.

[00:59:49] You know because getting us to believe that.

[00:59:54] That what's the name could play could be a convincing Tony Stark.

[00:59:58] You know what I mean?

[01:00:00] And and actually Robert Downey, he did a great job.

[01:00:05] He did a great job in that.

[01:00:07] Playing that part.

[01:00:09] Um.

[01:00:16] I'm not.

[01:00:21] And one of my favorite.

[01:00:24] Hidden, hidden pleasure.

[01:00:26] The incredible.

[01:00:27] I love the incredible.

[01:00:30] And to a story and to a story.

[01:00:33] The toy story and incredible movies were great.

[01:00:35] They really were.

[01:00:36] You know, so.

[01:00:39] So.

[01:00:40] I guess I could those those out there.

[01:00:43] The movie senses with Denzel Washington was a great movie.

[01:00:46] Okay.

[01:00:47] That's all that you did see that.

[01:00:49] Yeah, I thought that was very good as well.

[01:00:53] So.

[01:00:54] Just the name of you.

[01:00:57] You know, I thought all of those were good movies.

[01:01:00] So thank redemption.

[01:01:03] That was a great movie too.

[01:01:05] So don't want to say level is the green.

[01:01:07] So.

[01:01:08] So.

[01:01:09] I would say those would be mine.

[01:01:12] Those would be mine.

[01:01:13] So.

[01:01:15] Some of these movies.

[01:01:17] He found yourself watching over and over again because they just appeal to you.

[01:01:21] You know, I don't know people.

[01:01:25] I thought I knew this guy all these years, but he threw some movies out there.

[01:01:29] The usual suspect man.

[01:01:31] That came from nowhere.

[01:01:33] You know, I can't even imagine you were watching that movie.

[01:01:37] Hey, well, you know what Dave, but before you know, I used to watch movie.

[01:01:41] But Dave, you know, you, you know, your kids are grown and.

[01:01:46] Got a lot of free time, but.

[01:01:49] You know.

[01:01:51] Yeah, for a fact, all right.

[01:01:53] So, uh, yeah, for you time to watch the usual.

[01:01:56] I will say that.

[01:01:58] I mean, I have white.

[01:01:59] Why did white people make the wifey make you do that?

[01:02:02] The day I mean, I probably, I'll probably early 20s out.

[01:02:05] I probably home.

[01:02:07] No job.

[01:02:09] So you need just why did you watch it when you came out?

[01:02:12] Yeah, well, I mean, I didn't see the movie theater.

[01:02:15] But I saw it.

[01:02:17] Probably shortly after.

[01:02:19] Okay, beyond cable or something.

[01:02:22] That was a good movie though.

[01:02:23] It really was.

[01:02:25] Yeah.

[01:02:26] All right.

[01:02:28] All right.
