00:01:24 --> 00:01:29 Hey, Dave. Everything is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black
00:01:29 --> 00:01:35 Guide, DelawareBlack.com, black media specialist, all-around good guy. How goes it, Dave?
00:01:36 --> 00:01:38 Hey, man. I can't call it. just.
00:01:41 --> 00:01:50 Sitting here tripping a little bit, man. Uh-oh. I swear, time just goes so fast.
00:01:50 --> 00:01:54 Yeah. You know, we already do June.
00:01:55 --> 00:01:58 Yeah, I mean, you know. Well, hold on, Dave.
00:01:59 --> 00:02:03 Don't rush those extra six days, okay? I know. I know. I mean,
00:02:04 --> 00:02:09 you know, the kids. Are your kids out, are both kids out of school?
00:02:10 --> 00:02:15 Yes, of course, my daughter, she graduated the end of May, so she's done.
00:02:16 --> 00:02:17 But, I mean, is her school done?
00:02:19 --> 00:02:24 I'm pretty sure. Yeah, and I think he had his last day last week.
00:02:25 --> 00:02:29 Okay, all right, okay. Yeah, because you never know anymore.
00:02:29 --> 00:02:35 It seems like each district seems to have different ties when people are out of school.
00:02:36 --> 00:02:40 You never know anymore. I've been still seeing a few school buses,
00:02:40 --> 00:02:42 you know, and that's why I asked that question.
00:02:42 --> 00:02:47 Well, no, but the schools that the kids go to in Pennsylvania,
00:02:48 --> 00:02:51 next week, Tuesday is their last day. Wow.
00:02:53 --> 00:02:58 Okay. Well, and I think some schools get out this week, tomorrow,
00:02:58 --> 00:03:00 if I'm not mistaken. I think it's the 10th.
00:03:01 --> 00:03:09 You know so you know I just think that it's interesting how quickly things kind
00:03:09 --> 00:03:12 of come about in school do you remember,
00:03:13 --> 00:03:18 you know when school would end you know you'd be looking forward to it and then.
00:03:20 --> 00:03:24 Were you one of those kids that got excited about moving up to the next grade
00:03:24 --> 00:03:28 or were you kind of disappointed that you were leaving the grade you were in,
00:03:29 --> 00:03:30 that might have been one of your favorite,
00:03:31 --> 00:03:34 I mean, years in school, and you didn't want to leave that grade because now
00:03:34 --> 00:03:37 you got to deal with new kids the next time around.
00:03:37 --> 00:03:42 So I did not care at all about moving up, moving down, left or right.
00:03:42 --> 00:03:46 When that last day came, all I could think of was summertime.
00:03:48 --> 00:03:52 Summertime. Now, were you in the pool a lot during the summer,
00:03:52 --> 00:03:53 during that time? When did you start swimming?
00:03:54 --> 00:03:58 So I started swimming when I was like eight or nine. But—.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:04 When did you start competitively? Yeah, eight or nine. Oh, okay.
00:04:04 --> 00:04:08 So you started very good. Okay. All right. Yeah. In fact, I believe I was nine
00:04:08 --> 00:04:12 because, you know, it's funny how things work. I remember when I was nine,
00:04:13 --> 00:04:15 I was, and that was my first year swimming.
00:04:16 --> 00:04:21 I was the slowest person on the team in my age group.
00:04:22 --> 00:04:25 And have you ever seen meets where that one person, whether it's track,
00:04:25 --> 00:04:30 swimming, you know, the marathon, they get clapped in? Right.
00:04:30 --> 00:04:36 Yeah, I remember getting clapped in. You can do it. You can do it.
00:04:37 --> 00:04:42 But then, you know, it's funny that my 10 year old, when I was 10 and I was
00:04:42 --> 00:04:49 still in that 10 and under age group, you know, I was setting records for the pool.
00:04:49 --> 00:04:52 I mean, for the swim team. Yeah, it was weird.
00:04:52 --> 00:04:59 I'm not sure how everything transitioned. But so you don't know what happened that led to that.
00:04:59 --> 00:05:05 Did you just get better or did the other kids get worse? No.
00:05:06 --> 00:05:10 I mean, I got better. But during the summers, I never went to swimming.
00:05:10 --> 00:05:15 My dad put me in fame in the summer. So in the summertime, I went to the fame program.
00:05:17 --> 00:05:24 So you were supposed to be an engineer then, huh? Well, technically I was. But yeah.
00:05:27 --> 00:05:31 So who would have known if my dad had kept me in swimming summertime,
00:05:31 --> 00:05:35 I might have been, you know, the black Michael Phelps around here. Ain't no telling.
00:05:38 --> 00:05:41 Well, I mean, that's the thing. I mean, because nowadays, I mean,
00:05:41 --> 00:05:45 these kids, you got to find something for them to do, you know,
00:05:46 --> 00:05:47 during these summers and whatever.
00:05:48 --> 00:05:52 You know, we got so many craziness going on with these young people.
00:05:52 --> 00:05:56 Well, what did your parents do to keep you out of trouble in the summertime?
00:05:56 --> 00:05:59 Because I'm sure they worked.
00:06:00 --> 00:06:07 Yeah, but I'm sure y'all were still bad. Like, you know, bad kids are bad kids, regardless, timeless.
00:06:07 --> 00:06:12 Well, I remember my mom, a couple of years I was in Little League,
00:06:12 --> 00:06:15 played Little League baseball at Kingswood.
00:06:20 --> 00:06:25 It was interesting. I didn't like it, though, you know, because we had some
00:06:25 --> 00:06:27 really cocky kids on that team.
00:06:28 --> 00:06:34 And, you know, I laugh about it now with a couple of those guys because we used
00:06:34 --> 00:06:36 to talk about the Kingswood days.
00:06:36 --> 00:06:40 And, you know, we had a really good team, too. I mean, we were always in the
00:06:40 --> 00:06:43 playoffs and championships, you know.
00:06:43 --> 00:06:50 You know but they you know i just didn't like playing baseball and my mom you
00:06:50 --> 00:06:52 know only reason i was out there because mama said i had to play,
00:06:53 --> 00:06:57 that wasn't my sport i mean i like basketball i like playing football but i
00:06:57 --> 00:06:58 didn't like playing baseball,
00:07:00 --> 00:07:06 so she did that for a couple years had me in lulu but and then camp i did oh,
00:07:06 --> 00:07:11 camp yeah my the church that we used to go to had a camp that was a very popular camp.
00:07:12 --> 00:07:19 And so during the summer, I was in camp most of the time until I got in high
00:07:19 --> 00:07:22 school and became part and went to the upper bound program.
00:07:22 --> 00:07:29 So I was down at UD, like for four straight summers, I was at UD for the summer. Okay.
00:07:31 --> 00:07:35 That's why I ended up going to school there because I knew the campus very well.
00:07:35 --> 00:07:39 So how about say your mom wanted to make sure you or nobody's baby daddy.
00:07:41 --> 00:07:45 Around the neighborhood. I don't know.
00:07:46 --> 00:07:51 Got out of school. Got out of high school and became a baby daddy right away. So that was...
00:07:52 --> 00:07:57 Gosh, my daughter is a great turn. She's a great turn, 47. Hmm.
00:07:58 --> 00:08:02 Yeah, so that tells you something there, right there.
00:08:03 --> 00:08:07 But other than that, you know, these days things are different,
00:08:07 --> 00:08:10 so you want to try to find things. There's a lot more camps out there.
00:08:10 --> 00:08:14 A lot of parents, because we deal, at my job, we deal with a lot of people.
00:08:14 --> 00:08:16 They put their kids in camp in school.
00:08:16 --> 00:08:20 They're not out of school two days and they're in camp. Yeah,
00:08:20 --> 00:08:22 and them camp prices have gone.
00:08:22 --> 00:08:26 Up i don't know if you've seen any of them oh i've seen them because um you
00:08:26 --> 00:08:30 know fortunately enough some of the camps you can get purchase of care to help
00:08:30 --> 00:08:36 out with that you know but you paying out of pocket yeah you paying some money yeah so all right.
00:08:38 --> 00:08:45 And so, so, but, um, other than that, you know, I guess it's officially summer
00:08:45 --> 00:08:47 when the school's in. So, yeah.
00:08:48 --> 00:08:51 And we got the Italian festival going on. Apparently it started.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:55 I see that. Did you see this thing that they're going to do at Rodney Square?
00:08:55 --> 00:08:59 They're going to have an outdoor boxing match. Did you see that? I did. I did see that.
00:09:00 --> 00:09:04 And then they're supposed to have a drone show afterwards. I was like, look at that.
00:09:05 --> 00:09:09 Yeah. I didn't know that second part. Yeah, right after the boxing match,
00:09:09 --> 00:09:13 it's supposed to be a drone light show. Oh, wow. Okay.
00:09:13 --> 00:09:17 I mean, to be honest, I kind of think the boxing match is kind of cool.
00:09:17 --> 00:09:21 And actually, I was considering possibly going out there and check it out.
00:09:21 --> 00:09:23 But is the boxing match free?
00:09:23 --> 00:09:24 I mean, I guess, you know, technically,
00:09:24 --> 00:09:29 you can probably stand around and see it if you're in the area.
00:09:29 --> 00:09:33 I'm sure it is. It's going to be like, because I'm wondering if that's why the
00:09:33 --> 00:09:37 jazz festival got pushed back a little bit. because the jazz festival is not
00:09:37 --> 00:09:38 going to be until August this year.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:43 Okay, yeah, I did see that. Yeah, so I wonder if that's the reason why they
00:09:43 --> 00:09:44 pushed it back because this event's in July.
00:09:45 --> 00:09:50 Mm-hmm. So, or was it the end of the month? I think it's the end of this month.
00:09:51 --> 00:09:56 So, but I just thought it was interesting that they were doing this.
00:09:56 --> 00:10:00 And I'm sure, yeah, it would definitely be outside because they're going to
00:10:00 --> 00:10:02 have the same place as the jazz festival. So, you know.
00:10:03 --> 00:10:06 So, they haven't figured out a way to charge for that yet.
00:10:07 --> 00:10:14 So, I know Tim's supposed to be doing the after party down at the Queen this year. Oh, really? Yeah.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:16 Yep. Yeah. So...
00:10:18 --> 00:10:24 And anyway, well, speaking of music and after parties and all those type of
00:10:24 --> 00:10:29 things, let's start our first story off with a bang.
00:10:30 --> 00:10:37 So you probably heard us talking about it leading up to up until this weekend.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:46 But the weekend came and that was the weekend of the Black Music Festival put on by Mr. Sam Bailey.
00:10:47 --> 00:10:52 And his Black Music Festival crew and staff.
00:10:53 --> 00:10:55 It was a very nice event, and.
00:10:58 --> 00:11:03 The host was, of course, Mr. Leonard Young and his wife, Yolanda,
00:11:04 --> 00:11:09 who is the campground owners of the GNR campground where the event was being
00:11:09 --> 00:11:11 held. It was a three-day event.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:17 And I guess I guess we can do a little recap of how everything went this weekend.
00:11:19 --> 00:11:23 You know, you you want to go here and start out talking about it?
00:11:24 --> 00:11:27 Yeah, you know, I just talk about the general stuff. So first of all,
00:11:27 --> 00:11:34 Dave, campers started coming in as early as Wednesday, you know, so they got there.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:37 Oh, they started coming Wednesday. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, like the first people,
00:11:38 --> 00:11:41 and actually, they were a majority of the Tinting people.
00:11:41 --> 00:11:44 And, you know, so I talked to them a couple times.
00:11:45 --> 00:11:51 Would you believe that last year they just happened, and the Tinting group was
00:11:51 --> 00:11:56 called Camping with Friends, and it's a bunch of, you know, they're friends and they kind of,
00:11:57 --> 00:12:00 you know, they probably go to different campgrounds, like, you know, some other groups.
00:12:01 --> 00:12:06 And I guess it was probably about 10, maybe 10 to 12 groups of them,
00:12:06 --> 00:12:10 you know, 10 to 12 parties of them. Okay.
00:12:10 --> 00:12:13 Yeah. So, like, you know, they had 10 to 12 sites.
00:12:14 --> 00:12:19 And would you believe last year they just happened to come to our campground
00:12:19 --> 00:12:22 the weekend of Black Music Festival?
00:12:22 --> 00:12:26 Well, I remember that couple, I don't know if you remember this couple I introduced
00:12:26 --> 00:12:30 you to last year. They must have been part of that group. Remember.
00:12:32 --> 00:12:36 It was a black couple I introduced you to. Last year. No, I don't. You remember that? No.
00:12:37 --> 00:12:40 No, I don't remember last year. Okay. Yeah, well, I forgot. You're younger than
00:12:40 --> 00:12:43 me. You're not supposed to remember these kind of things.
00:12:43 --> 00:12:47 Yeah. But anyway, I wonder, yeah, I think that those people was part of that
00:12:47 --> 00:12:49 group that might have been there last year.
00:12:49 --> 00:12:52 They may have been. So they actually came Wednesday, and Dave,
00:12:52 --> 00:12:56 when I say they had the setup, they had double, triple tents.
00:12:56 --> 00:13:01 They had a tent for, like, eating, you know, like a tent with,
00:13:01 --> 00:13:05 like, the netting on the side. Of course, it keeps the bugs out and all that stuff.
00:13:05 --> 00:13:11 At nighttime, they hooked up their TV. Friday night, they were watching the
00:13:11 --> 00:13:13 game. They had about 30 people.
00:13:13 --> 00:13:18 They rented a tent site just to party, you know what I mean?
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 Like, just like a communal site.
00:13:20 --> 00:13:24 And they set up a little tiki bar. They had some stools around the bar.
00:13:24 --> 00:13:30 Like, I mean, you know, it really makes you reconsider that tenting life if
00:13:30 --> 00:13:34 you're with the right people, because they'll bring, you know,
00:13:34 --> 00:13:38 certain stuff that just kind of changes the dynamics of everything.
00:13:38 --> 00:13:39 So I thought that was cool.
00:13:41 --> 00:13:45 And I will say, you know, the vibe is I feel like the vibe is different with,
00:13:46 --> 00:13:50 black music fest, black people, because people are a lot more polite.
00:13:50 --> 00:13:54 They were I just say that they, you know, usually after big weekends,
00:13:54 --> 00:13:55 there's a lot of cleanup to do.
00:13:56 --> 00:14:00 Now, of course, you know, we have a lot of trash because people use and aid and drink and all that.
00:14:01 --> 00:14:04 But they didn't leave a lot of litter all over the place. You know,
00:14:04 --> 00:14:09 people really kind of put their trash in one area. They bagged up their trash.
00:14:10 --> 00:14:12 So, I mean, overall, I thought it was a good week. And, of course,
00:14:12 --> 00:14:15 it was a great turnout. I thought the music was good.
00:14:16 --> 00:14:18 Yeah, you know what I mean? I thought everything was good.
00:14:19 --> 00:14:26 I think billionaire Bailey was pleased. And there were a lot of people who wanted
00:14:26 --> 00:14:30 to book their site before they left for next year. So, you know,
00:14:30 --> 00:14:32 that's always a good sign.
00:14:33 --> 00:14:34 Did that group say they were coming
00:14:34 --> 00:14:41 back again oh yeah of course okay all right so yeah it was um it was a
00:14:42 --> 00:14:48 now i i only went down folks i was only there on saturday this course everything
00:14:48 --> 00:14:50 kind of jumped off friday night,
00:14:51 --> 00:14:53 and the,
00:14:54 --> 00:14:58 they had to start up of everything on friday night with dj tendall And.
00:15:00 --> 00:15:02 Then Saturday was the big day.
00:15:03 --> 00:15:07 And it was, you know, it's funny because I know a little people,
00:15:07 --> 00:15:10 everybody was a little nervous because they said it was supposed to be like
00:15:10 --> 00:15:12 90 something degrees that day.
00:15:13 --> 00:15:17 But fortunately enough, there was a nice little breeze that was going through
00:15:17 --> 00:15:22 there too. And so it wasn't as hot as it could have been, I thought.
00:15:23 --> 00:15:28 And there were you know we you know and leonard is right you know there was
00:15:28 --> 00:15:36 a lot of people there but you know this is that that crowd that comes down and it's like a big reunion,
00:15:37 --> 00:15:42 family reunion and even though everybody's not family people are polite to each
00:15:42 --> 00:15:48 other they talk to each other i was talking to a guy who was a guy that i know,
00:15:49 --> 00:15:52 who was hanging out with a dude that he met there last year.
00:15:52 --> 00:15:57 And they met there last year and then became best friends.
00:15:59 --> 00:16:02 Now, hold on. Are you best friends or just good friends? Yeah. Oh, wow. Yeah.
00:16:02 --> 00:16:07 Yeah. They become, I mean, he literally said he's probably his best friend now.
00:16:07 --> 00:16:12 I mean, you know, they met there at the campground and their wives hang out
00:16:12 --> 00:16:14 together now and everything, you know.
00:16:14 --> 00:16:18 So, and he lives, one of the guys lives in Delaware.
00:16:18 --> 00:16:22 The other one lives in Maryland and they just happened to meet there at the campground.
00:16:22 --> 00:16:26 So, you know, that type of thing, you know, people talking to each other and,
00:16:26 --> 00:16:31 you know, we had all the line dance crews and we had the double,
00:16:31 --> 00:16:32 we had a couple of double dust crew.
00:16:32 --> 00:16:37 That one particular double dust crew, the youngest person was 69 years old.
00:16:39 --> 00:16:42 And they were killing it, man. I'm telling you, they were killing it.
00:16:42 --> 00:16:44 I was like, how did they do that?
00:16:44 --> 00:16:48 You know, the oldest person was like 70-something, 79, I think they said.
00:16:50 --> 00:16:53 And, you know, real quick, regarding the double duds, you know,
00:16:53 --> 00:16:57 I always think it's so cool that people, like, still like to do that.
00:16:57 --> 00:17:02 You know what I mean? It's like. You got 70-something-year-old people out there doing double duds.
00:17:02 --> 00:17:06 That shit tells you, you know, that tells you something about the child within
00:17:06 --> 00:17:09 you, you know. Yeah. You never really grow up.
00:17:10 --> 00:17:12 You just get older. You know what I mean?
00:17:13 --> 00:17:16 And in your mind, you know, you can always go back.
00:17:16 --> 00:17:21 We're so quick to think about our childhood because our mind always is quick
00:17:21 --> 00:17:29 to take us back there. When you see people double-dutching like that and having a good time, I mean...
00:17:31 --> 00:17:36 Yeah, it's fascinating, but it's also, you know, it just makes you feel so good
00:17:36 --> 00:17:39 to see that, you know? Well, Dave, let me ask you a super quick question.
00:17:40 --> 00:17:46 What from your childhood do you have that same, like, love that they had for double dutch?
00:17:46 --> 00:17:52 Like, if, like, you know, you walk by, like, a ball and some jacks and be like,
00:17:52 --> 00:17:56 oh, man, I got to pick up them jacks or, you know? You know what's funny? You mentioned jacks.
00:17:57 --> 00:17:59 That is so funny that you said that.
00:17:59 --> 00:18:02 Playing jacks and marbles.
00:18:02 --> 00:18:06 Those two games were very big when I was growing up.
00:18:06 --> 00:18:09 And now kids wouldn't even know how to play marbles now. I mean,
00:18:09 --> 00:18:14 you know, and collecting the marbles, you know, if you had the previous collection
00:18:14 --> 00:18:17 of marbles, man, you would have, you would have, you would have,
00:18:17 --> 00:18:18 you would have a big man on campus.
00:18:18 --> 00:18:21 I'm telling you, you know, I'm telling you because, you know,
00:18:21 --> 00:18:26 you would spend back then a small fortune on these marbles. Yeah.
00:18:26 --> 00:18:31 And if you got certain ones that, you know, You had the clear one that had the
00:18:31 --> 00:18:38 little things in it and whatever, and everybody, you know, we had names for it.
00:18:38 --> 00:18:42 We had names for it, but like you had the cat eye marble and you had this kind
00:18:42 --> 00:18:49 of marble. It was, you know, so Jackson, I think, and one other thing, yo-yo. Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:18:50 --> 00:18:55 Yeah, we had, we were, you know, the yo-yo thing was a big thing back then.
00:18:56 --> 00:19:01 Even now, if I go past the yo-yo and I pick it up, I will yo-yo now.
00:19:02 --> 00:19:05 Well, on a day, this is important. Could you walk the dog?
00:19:06 --> 00:19:10 I could do quite a few of those tricks. I could walk the dog.
00:19:10 --> 00:19:12 I could do the swing thing.
00:19:13 --> 00:19:16 We call it rock the cradle. I think that's what it was called.
00:19:16 --> 00:19:19 Around the world. Okay, yeah.
00:19:19 --> 00:19:23 And there was a butterfly move that you could do, too. Okay.
00:19:24 --> 00:19:27 Now, that was a little hard. I ain't gonna lie. That's a little hard.
00:19:27 --> 00:19:31 You know, and you really can only do that move,
00:19:32 --> 00:19:35 when the yo-yo was pretty new because it had to spin at a certain level.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:43 So, but those things right there, I just named in my childhood were like really
00:19:43 --> 00:19:47 cool things, you know, and we, we did them all the time.
00:19:47 --> 00:19:52 So that double dust thing, that's like the double dust thing for me, you know? Gotcha.
00:19:53 --> 00:20:00 Yeah. So, but folks, if you know, we, we, this, we just did it. There was the third one.
00:20:00 --> 00:20:05 That was the third one. And shout out, and let me just put some shout outs out
00:20:05 --> 00:20:10 there, and you're going to add a couple that, you know, if I miss anybody that
00:20:10 --> 00:20:12 you think I should shout out.
00:20:13 --> 00:20:16 We also had Miss National Juneteenth there.
00:20:17 --> 00:20:21 Sanaya, what's Sanaya's last name? Gay. It's Sanaya Gay.
00:20:22 --> 00:20:27 So she was there helping Leonard out with his new app called Culture Check.
00:20:27 --> 00:20:29 You also check this app out. It's ready now, right?
00:20:30 --> 00:20:36 You can it's not in the app stores but you can play it via like your phone but yes.
00:20:37 --> 00:20:42 I know, confusing, but not confusing. If you go to the website,
00:20:42 --> 00:20:46 there's a link where you can play it on your phone, but it's not in the app
00:20:46 --> 00:20:48 stores yet. It'll probably be in the app stores in a couple of days.
00:20:50 --> 00:20:55 Can we post it with the show? Yeah, of course. Okay. We'll post it later on so people can go.
00:20:56 --> 00:20:59 Okay. And with this app, tell them about the app.
00:20:59 --> 00:21:07 Sure. So this app is It's called Culture Check, and it's titled The Ultimate Test of Black Culture.
00:21:07 --> 00:21:11 And Dave, you know, of course, there's some powers that be that are trying to
00:21:11 --> 00:21:17 erase black history everywhere we look in books. I can't imagine. Right, right.
00:21:18 --> 00:21:27 So this app is a black culture app that is based on trivia.
00:21:27 --> 00:21:33 So any type of trivia you can think of is going to be on this app is either
00:21:33 --> 00:21:36 on there now or is coming soon so,
00:21:36 --> 00:21:45 categories such as music entertainment history culture sports innovation wealth arts,
00:21:46 --> 00:21:48 the diaspora and they this not.
00:21:50 --> 00:21:54 This not going to be one of them boring old trivia things like you know,
00:21:54 --> 00:21:58 I won't name any names but like some other apps out there but you know,
00:21:58 --> 00:22:00 this one is going to be more entertaining.
00:22:00 --> 00:22:07 So Dave, we have categories like you're about to make me break out my categories on you.
00:22:07 --> 00:22:11 So we have fun categories like,
00:22:12 --> 00:22:17 Black TV shows, black movies, sports, identify the athlete.
00:22:18 --> 00:22:25 We have a Juneteenth challenge that's going on this month. We have black brands.
00:22:26 --> 00:22:32 So we wanted to make it fun, educational, and entertaining.
00:22:32 --> 00:22:37 And Dave, the good part about it is you can also compete against other people.
00:22:38 --> 00:22:43 And Dave, since you played last, we added leaderboards. So let me give you an example.
00:22:44 --> 00:22:49 Let's say you're playing in the pack that's called everyday black culture.
00:22:50 --> 00:22:55 Depending on how many you get right, how quickly you complete the questions,
00:22:56 --> 00:23:03 and if you get any correct in a row, you get points, and that points puts you on a leaderboard.
00:23:03 --> 00:23:08 So, you know, you can compete to try to see if you can beat your score and see
00:23:08 --> 00:23:10 where you place on that leaderboard.
00:23:12 --> 00:23:17 After every competition it shows you an overview where you can see what you
00:23:17 --> 00:23:23 got right what you got wrong and you can see why that question or that moment
00:23:23 --> 00:23:25 was important to black culture
00:23:25 --> 00:23:30 so we i mean we have a whole lot um i think it's going to be a hit i'm just
00:23:30 --> 00:23:34 trying to hurry up and get it on the app stores but really excited about dave
00:23:34 --> 00:23:39 this right here is my home depot you know we talked about that Home Depot this opportunity,
00:23:40 --> 00:23:44 this right here is my Home Depot I'm hoping that this take me to the promised
00:23:44 --> 00:23:49 land yep it's gonna take us to the promised land there we go so,
00:23:49 --> 00:23:54 I I advise everyone to get on this and I think you know we're gonna post it
00:23:54 --> 00:23:56 when we post the show right Leonard,
00:23:57 --> 00:24:04 Okay, so you guys can check it out, and it'll have a QR code for you guys to,
00:24:05 --> 00:24:09 go on there and play and do it.
00:24:09 --> 00:24:12 And I have done it a couple times, so there's some good questions,
00:24:12 --> 00:24:17 and there's a lot of different categories, like Leonard says, so check it out.
00:24:19 --> 00:24:25 And thanks for those people that signed up to check out the app down at the
00:24:25 --> 00:24:28 Black Music Festival on Saturday.
00:24:29 --> 00:24:34 Let me say, I want to give a shout out to, of course, Mr. Sam Bailey and doing
00:24:34 --> 00:24:39 a wonderful job again for the third one in a row, especially with the entertainment.
00:24:40 --> 00:24:46 We have the Calvary Baptist Church Choir, Combined Choir there.
00:24:46 --> 00:24:53 Let me see, Mr. Tony Smith and his dad's ensemble Jacqueline Elmendorf and,
00:24:54 --> 00:25:00 her all-female band Let me see, Best Kept Soul, Delaware's favorite band there,
00:25:01 --> 00:25:07 Let me see, we had the Double Dutch We had two Double Dutch groups Delaware, Double,
00:25:08 --> 00:25:09 what was it, Diamonds or something?
00:25:10 --> 00:25:16 Don't give me the line But we had two great Double Dutch groups there and quite
00:25:16 --> 00:25:19 a few different line dance groups there.
00:25:23 --> 00:25:27 So line dancing was going on that particular day.
00:25:27 --> 00:25:32 And then the cap, the performance is out.
00:25:33 --> 00:25:39 Was the Earth, Wind & Fire tribute band. Now, I have to say,
00:25:41 --> 00:25:46 if you didn't know there was a band on the stage, you would score that those
00:25:46 --> 00:25:50 were records that were playing. I mean, the sound was incredible.
00:25:51 --> 00:25:56 They sounded good. That band is really good, man. They are really good.
00:25:56 --> 00:26:00 And yes, I can see why Sam brought them there.
00:26:01 --> 00:26:04 You know, so they were, yeah, they were really, really good.
00:26:04 --> 00:26:09 Everybody talked about how great that band was. So, yeah.
00:26:11 --> 00:26:15 What are you laughing about? Nothing, Dave. I was just thinking about something. Yeah, okay.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:19 But, yeah, but it was a good day.
00:26:19 --> 00:26:25 It was a good day overall. And Leonard's right about how everybody just kind
00:26:25 --> 00:26:28 of did their thing. Because, you know, everybody had tents. Everybody had the
00:26:28 --> 00:26:32 canopies and so forth. and you had people cooking out and so forth.
00:26:32 --> 00:26:38 And for a place like that, you know, it could be disastrous with all the trash
00:26:38 --> 00:26:39 and so forth and so forth.
00:26:39 --> 00:26:42 But you didn't see, you're right, you didn't see a lot of trash there.
00:26:42 --> 00:26:46 You didn't see stuff left on the ground and stuff like that.
00:26:46 --> 00:26:53 And people were picking things up because, you know, trash receptacles were
00:26:53 --> 00:26:56 full, you know, and then they emptied them when they got to them.
00:26:57 --> 00:27:02 But other than that, you know, you didn't see people throwing stuff on the ground
00:27:02 --> 00:27:04 that's what i meant you know that's what i mean,
00:27:04 --> 00:27:09 so it was a great day saturday and then they had a little after party afterwards
00:27:09 --> 00:27:15 and then the close out was on sunday where you guys did breakfast and everything,
00:27:16 --> 00:27:22 so it was a great three days down there and everybody you know i saw a couple people i ain't seen,
00:27:22 --> 00:27:27 in in a few years i mean you know so and that's another thing when you go to
00:27:27 --> 00:27:31 events like this you're liable to see people you haven't seen in a while.
00:27:32 --> 00:27:36 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, so it was really a great day. So...
00:27:38 --> 00:27:43 If you were there, sure, you had a good time. I've seen a lot of comments on
00:27:43 --> 00:27:48 social media about it, and everybody seemed to really have had a good time there.
00:27:48 --> 00:27:51 And there was a lot of first-timers there. I talked to quite a few first-timers.
00:27:53 --> 00:27:57 You know, and they really enjoyed this as I'm living with it.
00:27:57 --> 00:28:00 And we said, man, this is really nice, man. You know, because,
00:28:00 --> 00:28:01 you know, living with it.
00:28:02 --> 00:28:08 But, yeah, so there was a lot of first-timers there, and people already said, hey,
00:28:09 --> 00:28:14 We're going to come back again next year. Let us know when. So the people who
00:28:14 --> 00:28:15 have been hanging in there.
00:28:16 --> 00:28:20 And then there's quite a few. They asked at one point, how many have been here all three years?
00:28:21 --> 00:28:28 And you hear most of the crowd saying, yeah, everybody's saying they've been there all three years.
00:28:28 --> 00:28:31 This is quickly becoming Delaware's big thing.
00:28:33 --> 00:28:38 And I'm trying to think about it. And of course, GNR can only hold so many people and all that.
00:28:39 --> 00:28:41 But I mean, I can say like, I
00:28:41 --> 00:28:46 went out to look at like the parking when it was, you know, going strong.
00:28:47 --> 00:28:51 And I mean, I could definitely see it, you know, the next year,
00:28:52 --> 00:28:55 maybe next year, you know, unless there's a big, a big jump up,
00:28:56 --> 00:28:59 but you know, we may have to look for some alternate parking and,
00:28:59 --> 00:29:01 you know, see how that goes.
00:29:03 --> 00:29:07 Yeah. Estimating, what do you think? Close to a thousand people?
00:29:08 --> 00:29:11 Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I really don't have anything to go off of.
00:29:11 --> 00:29:17 But I do think, looking at the cars, it seemed like a little more people from last year. Yeah.
00:29:18 --> 00:29:24 So, I mean, I would guess about 1. Yeah. But, you know, it's hard to know
00:29:24 --> 00:29:27 for sure. But, yeah, I mean, that's my guesstimate.
00:29:27 --> 00:29:31 And last year, last year, we, you know, was hurt a little bit because of the
00:29:31 --> 00:29:37 weather, because it rained last year. Mm-hmm. Rain, it rained in the morning.
00:29:37 --> 00:29:42 It was like at the beginning of it. So, but then by 1030, 11 o'clock, everything cleared up.
00:29:42 --> 00:29:49 So did it rain after I left? Did it rain down there? Saturday night? Yeah.
00:29:50 --> 00:29:52 Okay. I ran right into it. Not a lot.
00:29:53 --> 00:29:57 Okay, I ran right into it going up the road at one point, like in Smyrna,
00:29:57 --> 00:30:00 like around that area. It was pouring.
00:30:00 --> 00:30:04 Oh, was it pouring? Yeah, it was pouring. And I would say, I guess it's heading
00:30:04 --> 00:30:08 that way because somebody had called me and said, where are you?
00:30:08 --> 00:30:12 And I said, I'm heading back home from the thing. They said,
00:30:12 --> 00:30:15 well, it's thunder and lightning and storming up this way.
00:30:15 --> 00:30:18 And then I said, I could tell because it was getting darker every time I was
00:30:18 --> 00:30:24 going up the road. and then all of a sudden I got the Smyrna era and boom,
00:30:24 --> 00:30:26 everything, the heavens opened up.
00:30:27 --> 00:30:32 So, but, okay. Oh, we have to say shout out to the DJs.
00:30:33 --> 00:30:38 I didn't say anything about the DJs. Yeah, and the host was Tony Calloway and
00:30:38 --> 00:30:46 DJ Dave and of course DJ Tim Dogg, our buddy DJ Tim Dogg who did a masterful job of holding down,
00:30:47 --> 00:30:50 pretty much the whole weekend. He was working, right?
00:30:51 --> 00:30:56 You know, so yeah, so definitely want to say shout out to him and great job,
00:30:56 --> 00:31:00 sir. And looking forward, looking forward to next year. Yeah,
00:31:00 --> 00:31:06 I definitely say DJ Tim dog was probably one of the most tired people of the weekend.
00:31:07 --> 00:31:13 I mean, no, Tim was there early Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday morning.
00:31:13 --> 00:31:19 So, you know, because I know I was tired and I know them days add up.
00:31:20 --> 00:31:24 Yeah, yeah Because he hit me up when he got down there He said,
00:31:24 --> 00:31:29 I'm already down here And I said, okay, alright That was Friday I said, you down there already?
00:31:29 --> 00:31:35 And he said, yeah, I'm down here So I said, okay, alright So, and, you know,
00:31:37 --> 00:31:40 I saw that there was, well, there was quite a few DJs down there,
00:31:40 --> 00:31:44 man. I saw a bunch of DJs down there on Saturday. I did, too.
00:31:45 --> 00:31:49 Pete? Yeah, I saw Pete. I saw you. I didn't get a chance to talk to Pete,
00:31:49 --> 00:31:51 but I saw you guys talking.
00:31:53 --> 00:32:01 DJ Vinny. There was, I saw Aubrey, another DJ. There was quite a few DJs down
00:32:01 --> 00:32:02 there. I saw quite a few up there, so.
00:32:04 --> 00:32:07 And that's another thing. When you have an event like this, it brings everybody
00:32:07 --> 00:32:12 together. There's no rivalry or anything like that. Everybody just comes together
00:32:12 --> 00:32:15 to have a good time. So looking forward to the next one.
00:32:16 --> 00:32:18 And thank you again, Sam Bailey.
00:32:18 --> 00:32:22 Great job. Great job. You and your staff, great job. Yes.
00:32:23 --> 00:32:27 All right. Moving on to our next thing.
00:32:28 --> 00:32:31 Speaking of going to a festival like this or whatever,
00:32:32 --> 00:32:36 maybe i saw this article it made me think about it because i saw a couple people,
00:32:37 --> 00:32:43 you know had you know who brought food with him i saw a couple people eating a watermelon,
00:32:44 --> 00:32:47 and and i saw somebody actually do this.
00:32:48 --> 00:32:53 While they were eating the watermelon and i said oh i said let me talk about
00:32:53 --> 00:32:55 this article because i saw this article,
00:32:55 --> 00:33:00 and this doesn't i know it started it might have maybe started down south but
00:33:00 --> 00:33:03 i i've seen this all my you know i knew about this as a kid so,
00:33:04 --> 00:33:09 i i i don't know the southerners brought it north with them or whatever,
00:33:10 --> 00:33:17 but why the southerners put salt on watermelon and why you should too now have
00:33:17 --> 00:33:23 you ever done this no did you know about it i feel like i heard it but to be
00:33:23 --> 00:33:25 honest watermelon is so good i just can't think of what,
00:33:26 --> 00:33:30 or what salt would change about it. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
00:33:31 --> 00:33:38 But you got to try it once because it is interesting because I just didn't understand
00:33:38 --> 00:33:42 it either until one day I tried it and I said, oh, I see why people do it. Okay.
00:33:43 --> 00:33:47 It says, this old Southern trick makes watermelon taste sweeter,
00:33:47 --> 00:33:49 juicier, and more refreshing.
00:33:50 --> 00:33:54 If you grew up in the South, you already know the move. Before biting into a
00:33:54 --> 00:33:59 cold slice of watermelon on a hot summer's day, you reach for a salt shaker.
00:34:00 --> 00:34:06 For everyone else, this might look strange, but once you try it, there's no going back.
00:34:07 --> 00:34:13 The science behind the habit is straightforward. Salt suppresses the subtle
00:34:13 --> 00:34:21 bitter compounds naturally present in watermelon, which lets the fruit's natural sugars come forward.
00:34:21 --> 00:34:28 The result is a slice that tastes noticeably sweeter without a single gram of added sugar.
00:34:29 --> 00:34:35 Salt also pulls moisture to the surface of the fruit, giving each bite a juicier,
00:34:35 --> 00:34:36 more satisfying texture.
00:34:38 --> 00:34:42 There is a practical benefit hiding in the pinch of seasoning, too.
00:34:43 --> 00:34:48 Sodium is a natural electrolyte that supports fluid balance in the body.
00:34:48 --> 00:34:54 Watermelon already delivers serious hydration on its own, and a little sodium
00:34:54 --> 00:34:56 pushes that effort further.
00:34:56 --> 00:35:03 On a sweltering afternoon, that combination hits differently than plain fruit alone.
00:35:03 --> 00:35:08 For most healthy people, the sodium from a light sprinkle is minimal.
00:35:08 --> 00:35:13 A pinch or about one-eighth of a teaspoon per slice is plenty.
00:35:14 --> 00:35:20 It stays well within the daily recommendation limit of 2 milligrams.
00:35:22 --> 00:35:29 Table salt does the job. or coarse sea salt or Himalayan pink salt as a subtle
00:35:29 --> 00:35:32 depth of flavor. Now, that I didn't know.
00:35:34 --> 00:35:40 Want to take it further? A squeeze of lime, a drizzle of honey,
00:35:41 --> 00:35:48 or a dash of seasoned salt can turn a simple slice into something worth talking about.
00:35:48 --> 00:35:55 Give it a minute or two after the seasoning before you dig in and let the fruit do its thing.
00:35:57 --> 00:36:04 So, and you said you've never done this. No. And Dave, you haven't said anything yet.
00:36:05 --> 00:36:08 You're still not going to try it? You're not going to try it?
00:36:08 --> 00:36:12 I mean, I feel like I don't know. I can't guarantee it.
00:36:13 --> 00:36:20 You got to be adventurous sometime, man. It is surprising because I was like you.
00:36:21 --> 00:36:24 I remember everybody in my neighborhood where I grew up at, man, they all did it.
00:36:25 --> 00:36:29 And I just said, I don't get it. Why are you putting salt on something sweet?
00:36:30 --> 00:36:36 Right. And then one day, I was fooling around with a couple of cousins of mine
00:36:36 --> 00:36:37 because they were doing it.
00:36:38 --> 00:36:41 And they said, come on, man, you got to try it. And I kept saying,
00:36:41 --> 00:36:42 no, I'm not going to do it.
00:36:42 --> 00:36:46 I'm not going to do it. So they tricked me, and I went to the bathroom and came
00:36:46 --> 00:36:51 back, and they had just cut this other—they had a couple of watermelons.
00:36:51 --> 00:36:54 One was gone, so they started cutting this other one up.
00:36:56 --> 00:36:59 They said, do you want another slice? And I said, yeah, give me another slice.
00:36:59 --> 00:37:04 Well, they had doctored the slice up that they gave me and put salt on it.
00:37:05 --> 00:37:09 No, I didn't know it. and so I went to take a bite of it and I just noticed
00:37:09 --> 00:37:13 that that particular one was sweeter than the other one I had,
00:37:15 --> 00:37:20 I said oh this must be a better this must be a better watermelon and they're
00:37:20 --> 00:37:25 sitting there laughing and they said no dummy that's the piece that had the
00:37:25 --> 00:37:28 salt on it that we told you was going to be better,
00:37:29 --> 00:37:35 but even after all that and I agreed it was juicy and it was flavorful I still,
00:37:36 --> 00:37:40 over the years, I still wouldn't put it on there. I mean, you know...
00:37:42 --> 00:37:48 And then I started, like, I don't eat a lot of the red watermelon because I like the yellow ones.
00:37:48 --> 00:37:52 Well, but, you know, Dave, now that made me think, you know,
00:37:52 --> 00:37:55 I mean, we're talking about salt. But I wonder what about sugar?
00:37:56 --> 00:37:58 Are there people putting sugar on water? They said the sugar gives you an opposite
00:37:58 --> 00:38:05 effect. It's like the sugar kind of drowns out the sweetness of the water. Gotcha. Yeah, yeah.
00:38:06 --> 00:38:12 So that's what I heard about it, you know. but it just doesn't seem right that
00:38:12 --> 00:38:16 you put salt on it you know or it seemed like it's going to make the uh watermelon
00:38:16 --> 00:38:18 kind of dissipate or something you know what i mean,
00:38:20 --> 00:38:25 well you know because it is water you know and we've seen salt dude salt salt
00:38:25 --> 00:38:31 is a weird thing because we you saw what the salt does to a slug right yeah guys it up,
00:38:32 --> 00:38:39 not only dries it up it evaporates that bad boy, man, that thing would go away, you know?
00:38:40 --> 00:38:44 So if Saul could do that to a slug, a living creature, and you talk about putting
00:38:44 --> 00:38:48 it on watermelon and, but I just never got it.
00:38:48 --> 00:38:51 But I know people that do it all the time. And like I said, I watched somebody,
00:38:51 --> 00:38:55 I watched somebody do it down at the grave ground. It's, um, this Saturday.
00:38:57 --> 00:39:01 And it made me say, it made me laugh. And I said, I said, so people are still
00:39:01 --> 00:39:07 doing this. After all these years. So, So, do you think your wife's ever tried it?
00:39:09 --> 00:39:13 I would say no. But I'm not sure. You know, so.
00:39:13 --> 00:39:17 Well, it's not far south, but, you know, it's from us, you know.
00:39:17 --> 00:39:21 So, I don't know. You have to ask her and see what she says.
00:39:21 --> 00:39:23 Has she ever tried it or does it?
00:39:24 --> 00:39:27 Now, I wouldn't put it past her father. Her father would probably ask. I bet you. Probably.
00:39:28 --> 00:39:31 Yeah, so. You know, them down south people are a little different.
00:39:31 --> 00:39:34 Yeah, they are. They're different. and really so...
00:39:36 --> 00:39:41 I just thought that was a crazy story, considering that I saw this happen over the weekend.
00:39:42 --> 00:39:45 But we're going to get Leonard to try it, and we're going to have Leonard come
00:39:45 --> 00:39:49 back and tell you guys what he thought of it.
00:39:50 --> 00:39:52 Next time you eat a piece of watermelon, you got to sprinkle.
00:39:52 --> 00:39:55 Just put a little bit on there and just see what happens.
00:39:56 --> 00:40:00 Okay, I will. I mean, we don't got any watermelon in the house now,
00:40:00 --> 00:40:05 but next time I'm at Wawa, I'll buy one of those little watermelons in the pack.
00:40:05 --> 00:40:10 And get some of that sugar from the coffee section. I mean, salt from the coffee
00:40:10 --> 00:40:13 section, try to see what happens.
00:40:13 --> 00:40:18 You get salt from the coffee section. Okay, all right. I understand. Okay.
00:40:19 --> 00:40:23 Okay, moving on to our next story. Okay.
00:40:24 --> 00:40:28 You said you hadn't seen this, right? That's what we're about to talk about.
00:40:29 --> 00:40:32 No, no. So this has been talked about for the last couple days.
00:40:32 --> 00:40:34 This actually happened on Sunday.
00:40:35 --> 00:40:38 You ever watch when you heard of the show meet the press I know you never watched it but,
00:40:39 --> 00:40:43 I've watched it you watch okay I'm shocked because you know I'm surprised you
00:40:43 --> 00:40:47 know you will watch something like that but anyway yeah I mean if I'm flipping
00:40:47 --> 00:40:50 and I see it on it comes on Sundays right like if I see it yeah,
00:40:51 --> 00:40:56 if I see it on I'll watch it but I'm you know I don't watch it on regular but okay,
00:40:57 --> 00:41:03 well Donald Trump was on that day and he.
00:41:04 --> 00:41:07 He oh, he was being Donald Trump. Let's put it that way.
00:41:08 --> 00:41:16 And I want you guys, I'm going to have Leonard play the video and you guys can
00:41:16 --> 00:41:19 hear what went down on this show.
00:41:19 --> 00:41:23 For those of you who may not already know, because it's been talked about for
00:41:23 --> 00:41:28 the last couple of days, but for those who have been under a rock and didn't hear it,
00:41:29 --> 00:41:35 Want to hear it? Here it goes. Donald Trump is the biggest snowflake of them all.
00:41:35 --> 00:41:39 He walked off of an interview, did you see this, with Kristen Welker from NBC?
00:41:40 --> 00:41:44 Because she told him and challenged him that he has never presented any evidence
00:41:44 --> 00:41:46 that the 2020 election was stolen
00:41:46 --> 00:41:50 or any evidence that any election was stolen. He keeps making it up.
00:41:50 --> 00:41:53 And finally, someone's challenged him on it. She did a great job.
00:41:53 --> 00:41:56 We can use more of this. She could have even gone harder. Watch this.
00:41:57 --> 00:42:01 They sent people to jail. who did nothing wrong. Just to be very clear,
00:42:01 --> 00:42:03 there's no evidence of what you're saying.
00:42:04 --> 00:42:06 But let me ask you about Todd Blanch. Let me ask you about Todd Blanch.
00:42:06 --> 00:42:08 Listen to me. Let's talk about Todd Blanch.
00:42:08 --> 00:42:12 There's tremendous evidence. There's nothing but evidence. It's not been presented in a court of law.
00:42:12 --> 00:42:16 It was a dirty election. And it's happening again right now in California.
00:42:16 --> 00:42:20 You've never presented evidence It's happening right now in California.
00:42:21 --> 00:42:23 Right now, it's looking. Look at what's happening in California.
00:42:23 --> 00:42:24 Where's the evidence to that? It's four days.
00:42:25 --> 00:42:27 The Republicans are doing well in California. In California,
00:42:27 --> 00:42:30 it's... No, they're not. They're dropping fast because it's a rigged election.
00:42:30 --> 00:42:35 Let me tell you, it's four days, and they aren't even close to coming up with it.
00:42:36 --> 00:42:37 That's how they count the votes in California. You know why they're doing that?
00:42:37 --> 00:42:38 Because they're cheating on the
00:42:38 --> 00:42:42 election. Do you have evidence to support that? All I have to do is look.
00:42:42 --> 00:42:44 All I have to do is look. But that's not evidence. And I listen.
00:42:44 --> 00:42:47 And I listen to people, and let's see what happens. But, sir,
00:42:47 --> 00:42:50 that's not evidence. Do you think it's appropriate? That's how they count the votes in California.
00:42:51 --> 00:42:55 Do you think it's appropriate that they have an election, and five days later,
00:42:55 --> 00:42:57 they're nowhere close to picking a winner?
00:42:57 --> 00:43:00 Some local officials acknowledge they are slow. They're urging.
00:43:00 --> 00:43:02 No, they're crooked. They're urging the votes to be counted quickly.
00:43:02 --> 00:43:05 That's how they vote in California. Just like you're crooked.
00:43:05 --> 00:43:08 Your press is crooked. And meet the press is crooked. To be fair,
00:43:08 --> 00:43:09 I'm not crooked. But let's continue.
00:43:09 --> 00:43:12 Really? Well, you play right into their hands then. Let's continue.
00:43:12 --> 00:43:13 You're either crooked or you're stupid.
00:43:14 --> 00:43:17 You play right into their hands with this rap. You know.
00:43:17 --> 00:43:22 That these elections are rigged. Your network knows that they're rigged.
00:43:22 --> 00:43:27 Do you know that I won an election in a landslide and I got 94% bad press?
00:43:28 --> 00:43:30 But Mr. President, you've never presented evidence. You know why I got that?
00:43:30 --> 00:43:32 Because you have no credibility.
00:43:32 --> 00:43:35 But you've never presented evidence that it was rigged. Let's keep talking about,
00:43:35 --> 00:43:38 I want to talk about top points. You have more evidence. There's more evidence
00:43:38 --> 00:43:42 than ever presented. Let's talk about- Your elections in this country,
00:43:42 --> 00:43:44 we're like a third world country.
00:43:44 --> 00:43:48 Your elections are crooked and you're crooked and Mr. Press is crooked.
00:43:49 --> 00:43:52 And so is ABC and CBS and CNN.
00:43:53 --> 00:43:56 But Mr. President... Your one-sided crooked network. So let's call it quits
00:43:56 --> 00:43:57 because I've had enough.
00:43:57 --> 00:44:00 Thank you, darling. Have a good time. Mr. President, let's please...
00:44:00 --> 00:44:02 I traveled all the way to Wisconsin. I've sat the plane with you.
00:44:03 --> 00:44:08 I know. I traveled all the way to Wisconsin. On and off in the rain.
00:44:08 --> 00:44:12 And I'm giving you enough time. You ought to straighten out your press because you know what?
00:44:12 --> 00:44:17 A country can never be great with a dishonest... Listen, we traveled all the
00:44:17 --> 00:44:19 way to Wisconsin for the film of you.
00:44:22 --> 00:44:28 Boy, your president is a thing, man. Oh, man. And by the way,
00:44:28 --> 00:44:36 for those who didn't see, he took his lapel mic off and he kind of threw it on the floor.
00:44:37 --> 00:44:39 When he got up to leave, he stepped on it.
00:44:43 --> 00:44:50 So that noise you heard at the end, that was him stepping on the mic. Yeah, so he, you know,
00:44:51 --> 00:44:55 um first of all you can't have a conversation with that person,
00:44:56 --> 00:45:00 and him not get defensive about everything he's always trying to throw up numbers
00:45:00 --> 00:45:04 he's always trying to talk about how you know he's,
00:45:04 --> 00:45:10 you know his numbers are here and so forth and so forth you know and and i commend
00:45:10 --> 00:45:13 her name's kristen welker if i'm not mistaken,
00:45:14 --> 00:45:15 i commend her on,
00:45:16 --> 00:45:21 trying to keep that interview going and so forth and so forth but he just wanted
00:45:21 --> 00:45:25 no parts of it because she was kind of calling them out on some things,
00:45:26 --> 00:45:32 and but the little line that he said called her crooked or stupid.
00:45:33 --> 00:45:37 I don't get how he can talk about people the way that he does he's quick to
00:45:37 --> 00:45:45 call people stupid he's called people the r word he's called people all kinds of crazy things and yet,
00:45:46 --> 00:45:52 nobody does anything about it So he's walking like he's like the Teflon Don right now.
00:45:53 --> 00:45:58 I like that. Well, yeah, which is interesting to me.
00:45:58 --> 00:46:04 The way in the interview, he was sitting back in the chair and when he started
00:46:04 --> 00:46:07 getting upset, he leaned forward in the chair,
00:46:07 --> 00:46:14 and asked to try to intimidate, his body language was trying to intimidate the woman.
00:46:16 --> 00:46:23 You don't go on national TV and then do stuff like this as a sitting president.
00:46:23 --> 00:46:30 Why is it that this guy, in your estimation, can get away with the things that he gets away with?
00:46:31 --> 00:46:32 I don't know. You know.
00:46:35 --> 00:46:41 I feel like he assumes the role. And when I say that, I mean that he assumes
00:46:41 --> 00:46:45 he's right, he makes no apologies, and he keeps it moving.
00:46:45 --> 00:46:51 And, you know, it's almost like, you know, he's always on to the next thing.
00:46:52 --> 00:46:57 And, you know, in my mind, I'm thinking, okay, it just seemed like he tells
00:46:57 --> 00:47:01 like 100 lies a day, you know, like just always lying.
00:47:03 --> 00:47:08 Manipulating and i'm sure that i'm sure he has to get to a point where he just
00:47:08 --> 00:47:12 gets tired you know i mean like they if you're that's why he keeps falling asleep
00:47:12 --> 00:47:14 at every day yeah i mean but if you were donald trump,
00:47:15 --> 00:47:20 like how long can you twist the narrative before you just be like all right
00:47:20 --> 00:47:23 yes i i scammed the people i took this money i,
00:47:24 --> 00:47:29 you know i said that i did that it was wrong you No, I don't know.
00:47:29 --> 00:47:33 I don't know. I mean, yeah, I guess you're right. How many times can you do that?
00:47:34 --> 00:47:39 You know, they were talking about, you know, he's planning a UFC fight on the
00:47:39 --> 00:47:41 lawn of the white man, right?
00:47:41 --> 00:47:47 And the judges put a halt to them building.
00:47:49 --> 00:47:56 The ring and everything because they're investigating because he's also supposed
00:47:56 --> 00:48:01 to be in partnership with the promoter as one of the promoters on this event,
00:48:01 --> 00:48:03 which means that he's probably going to make money from it.
00:48:04 --> 00:48:07 Well, he's going to make money from it. Ain't no problem about it.
00:48:08 --> 00:48:14 And so they put a freeze on everything because they're trying to investigate
00:48:14 --> 00:48:16 whether or not he's going to make money from it.
00:48:16 --> 00:48:20 He's making money from every move that he makes. Yeah.
00:48:22 --> 00:48:28 You know, every time he does something that's calculated, I mean, you know.
00:48:28 --> 00:48:34 And now he's supposedly since called, from what I saw allegedly,
00:48:34 --> 00:48:37 I'm going to put allegedly out there because I saw on social media,
00:48:37 --> 00:48:41 that he's since called Ms.
00:48:41 --> 00:48:47 Walker to let her know that he would do another interview with her. Oh, my goodness.
00:48:48 --> 00:48:51 Yeah. Hold on, but she came all the way to Wisconsin.
00:48:52 --> 00:48:58 Yeah in the rain by the way they did the interview in the rain,
00:48:59 --> 00:49:04 but you know I guess he just figured hey he's going to get press from and he
00:49:04 --> 00:49:06 might as well use it to his advantage,
00:49:07 --> 00:49:12 you know so that's probably why he's doing this but I just saw that man and
00:49:12 --> 00:49:15 I just said you know and for those that was,
00:49:16 --> 00:49:21 heard the person speaking in the very beginning of before they went to the to
00:49:21 --> 00:49:25 the video and audio, that was Don Lemon that was talking.
00:49:26 --> 00:49:29 And, you know, him and Don Lemon don't have any love for each other. But.
00:49:32 --> 00:49:40 You know, guys, you know, for those, what do you guys think about that whole situation?
00:49:40 --> 00:49:46 And was he, well, we know he wasn't right, but do you think something should
00:49:46 --> 00:49:51 happen in reference to the way he treated this reporter her and interviewer,
00:49:52 --> 00:49:56 was it fair for him to call her crooked or stupid?
00:49:57 --> 00:50:00 Well, Dave, remember, he called the one lady, he said, quiet,
00:50:00 --> 00:50:03 piggy. You remember that? Yeah, yeah.
00:50:04 --> 00:50:08 So, and he never apologized for that, so I don't know. He don't apologize.
00:50:08 --> 00:50:10 He don't apologize for nothing. No, he doesn't.
00:50:11 --> 00:50:14 He don't apologize for nothing, he does. Yeah.
00:50:15 --> 00:50:18 But I just wanted you guys to hear that. If you hadn't heard that,
00:50:18 --> 00:50:21 look at the video. Just check his posture out and everything.
00:50:22 --> 00:50:27 It is really something that he really, you know, did what he did on that,
00:50:27 --> 00:50:32 doing that particular interview and then gets up and leave and then step on the mic. That's crazy.
00:50:33 --> 00:50:37 So, but I just wanted to bring that to everybody's attention.
00:50:37 --> 00:50:41 And you guys give your own opinions on what you hear or what you saw or what
00:50:41 --> 00:50:43 you think. So, all right.
00:50:44 --> 00:50:47 All right. What you got for us, Lenny? All right, Dave. I thought this was an
00:50:47 --> 00:50:51 interesting article. It's one of them articles that when you read the title,
00:50:51 --> 00:50:53 it catches your attention.
00:50:53 --> 00:50:59 So the title of the article is on the root. It says, scientist Neil deGrasse
00:50:59 --> 00:51:05 Tyson on why white people refuse to admit that they're actually black.
00:51:06 --> 00:51:10 So this comes from, and I may have to check this out too.
00:51:10 --> 00:51:17 So apparently, Neil or Tyson was on the club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharp.
00:51:18 --> 00:51:25 Yeah, he was not too long ago. Yes. And Shannon had asked a question.
00:51:26 --> 00:51:34 And basically, he asked about, I'm trying to find the exact question that he asked.
00:51:34 --> 00:51:40 Okay. So Shannon Sharp asked him to explain the difference between black people,
00:51:40 --> 00:51:43 white people and Asians.
00:51:44 --> 00:51:49 And basically, you know, he said, we all came, we all came out of Africa,
00:51:49 --> 00:51:53 which, you know, most black people, you know, we, we already know where this is going.
00:51:53 --> 00:51:59 And he says, human origin is in Africa. There's no dispute about it at all.
00:51:59 --> 00:52:05 The physical evidence backing Tyson's claim is etched directly in the earth.
00:52:06 --> 00:52:11 So then he kind of references a certain white person.
00:52:12 --> 00:52:16 I'm sorry, not a certain white person, but just an example of a white person.
00:52:17 --> 00:52:22 And so basically he said, you'll meet an Italian and you'll say, well, hold on.
00:52:22 --> 00:52:25 Where were you born? And they'll say America.
00:52:25 --> 00:52:30 And he's like, well, where were your parents born? And they'll be like Brooklyn.
00:52:30 --> 00:52:33 And he's like, well, where were their parents born?
00:52:34 --> 00:52:38 And he'll say, they'll say something like Italy, I'm Italian.
00:52:39 --> 00:52:44 And he says that they only trace their family tree,
00:52:44 --> 00:52:50 back to where they can kind of soothe their need to have some type of association,
00:52:50 --> 00:52:54 not with black, you know, because, you know, technically, okay,
00:52:55 --> 00:52:57 Italian, but where were their parents from?
00:52:57 --> 00:53:01 You know, eventually we know everything traces back to Africa.
00:53:01 --> 00:53:05 So, you know, I thought it was just interesting that, you know,
00:53:05 --> 00:53:11 that he kind of, you know, speaks about that. And then he'll say something like,
00:53:11 --> 00:53:13 well, you know, keep going.
00:53:13 --> 00:53:16 Like, where were their parents from? Where were their parents going?
00:53:17 --> 00:53:21 And he was basically saying, if they keep going, you know, we're all African.
00:53:22 --> 00:53:29 And so, you know, he was saying there is for these people, there are ancestors
00:53:29 --> 00:53:33 of theirs that are African if they go far back on the tree.
00:53:34 --> 00:53:41 But, of course, they stop in Italy. They stop in Sweden. They stop in Germany. They stop in Poland.
00:53:41 --> 00:53:44 You know, they don't try to go back any farther.
00:53:45 --> 00:53:48 So, you know, I thought that was just an interesting conversation.
00:53:48 --> 00:53:50 And I never thought about it like that.
00:53:50 --> 00:53:56 You know, so funny, like, you know, when we see all these videos online or maybe
00:53:56 --> 00:54:01 some, you know, personal experiences, when we have people say, go back to Africa.
00:54:02 --> 00:54:07 You know, I mean, we might be, you know, more direct descendants,
00:54:07 --> 00:54:15 but, you know, they're descendants too. You know, their heritage doesn't stop in Europe or in Asia.
00:54:15 --> 00:54:19 You know, we know that thing traces probably right back to the Nile and Egypt
00:54:20 --> 00:54:23 and Timbuktu and Mecca, you know, and all those places.
00:54:23 --> 00:54:28 So I just thought it was an interesting conversation, and I definitely plan
00:54:28 --> 00:54:33 on checking out that episode of Club Shay Shay just to, you know,
00:54:33 --> 00:54:36 kind of hear everything that he was talking about.
00:54:37 --> 00:54:45 Well, okay. Well, he, well, Degrassi, you know, is one of our first and foremost
00:54:45 --> 00:54:50 scholars, and especially when it comes to physics.
00:54:51 --> 00:54:57 He's a what is it physicist I can't get the word out that's what I'm trying to do,
00:54:58 --> 00:55:06 astrophysicist yeah yeah very smart guy you know of course he's you know he's been,
00:55:08 --> 00:55:12 our go to person when it comes to those type of things that have to do with,
00:55:13 --> 00:55:16 you know outer space and stuff like that you know and,
00:55:18 --> 00:55:26 So he has been someone who has been like a go-to when it comes to these type of things.
00:55:29 --> 00:55:30 But even.
00:55:34 --> 00:55:38 Some of the things that he has said has just had me always wondering too.
00:55:38 --> 00:55:41 Like I heard a conversation on the way over here, and I remember hearing him
00:55:41 --> 00:55:44 talk about this before too, about the pyramids.
00:55:45 --> 00:55:49 Now you went to Dubai, you've seen pyramids live, big pyramids, right?
00:55:50 --> 00:55:54 Y'all didn't see them when y'all went? No, so they don't have any pyramids in Dubai.
00:55:55 --> 00:55:59 Or, I'm sorry, if they did, I didn't see them. Yeah, there's some there.
00:55:59 --> 00:56:01 You probably just wasn't in that part, you know?
00:56:03 --> 00:56:08 But they talk about, you know, you know, there's a couple theories on how they
00:56:08 --> 00:56:09 got there. You ever hear the theories?
00:56:09 --> 00:56:12 The aliens put them there? You ever hear that theory?
00:56:13 --> 00:56:19 Okay, but they were talking about how could man have done that,
00:56:19 --> 00:56:22 build the pyramids, especially the ones in Egypt?
00:56:23 --> 00:56:30 How could men figure out a way to move stones that size and be able to stack
00:56:30 --> 00:56:34 them and so forth and not have cranes and stuff that we have now?
00:56:36 --> 00:56:40 And he has his own little theories on everything, but of course,
00:56:40 --> 00:56:44 they always try to take the religious aspect out of it. Because,
00:56:44 --> 00:56:48 but they, have you noticed they still haven't never been able to really explain
00:56:48 --> 00:56:50 how those things got there. Right.
00:56:50 --> 00:56:53 You know, so, so it's been interesting.
00:56:54 --> 00:57:00 When it comes to these type of things and trying to prove where everybody comes from, you know.
00:57:01 --> 00:57:05 You know, I've been told many times, there's a lot of African Cokers.
00:57:06 --> 00:57:14 You know, my last name, for those who don't know, there's a lot of African Cokers
00:57:14 --> 00:57:18 over in Africa, especially they sit in the Nigeria area.
00:57:19 --> 00:57:23 And I'll be like, really? And I'll say, this seems like a strange name.
00:57:23 --> 00:57:27 But then, stuff like that, wow.
00:57:27 --> 00:57:31 Maybe my family really did come from over there, you know? And,
00:57:31 --> 00:57:35 you know, of course, you only know the American side of your family.
00:57:35 --> 00:57:41 You don't know about that struggle, you know, when they probably were moved from there and so forth.
00:57:41 --> 00:57:44 But they said there's a ton of them over there, you know.
00:57:45 --> 00:57:49 So this makes you think when you hear stuff like this, you know,
00:57:50 --> 00:57:55 it kind of gives you the, like, like Arsenio Hall used to do back in the day, makes you go, hmm.
00:57:56 --> 00:58:02 You know, so, yeah. So very interesting, very interesting. Did he have anything else to say?
00:58:02 --> 00:58:07 No, I mean, that's pretty much how he summed it up, just that they basically
00:58:07 --> 00:58:14 stop going back to identify generations, you know, only for their own comfort level.
00:58:15 --> 00:58:18 Yeah, because, you know, some of the stuff you really don't want the answers
00:58:18 --> 00:58:22 to. You know that, right? Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah,
00:58:22 --> 00:58:25 you really don't want to know. So, yeah, definitely.
00:58:26 --> 00:58:29 So, well, very interesting, very interesting, you know.
00:58:30 --> 00:58:33 That still don't mean that everybody's invited to the cookout you know what I mean,
00:58:35 --> 00:58:39 you can't not everybody can be part of the delegation as we call it so they
00:58:39 --> 00:58:46 can't do it so alright alright that brings us to Leonard's favorite part of the show,
00:58:47 --> 00:58:50 Dave's Corner? I know you can't wait to hear this. You know,
00:58:50 --> 00:58:54 I was talking to Tim, and Tim was saying, Dave's Corner, one of my favorite
00:58:54 --> 00:58:57 things. I was like, Tim, no, no, it's not. You're just saying that.
00:58:57 --> 00:58:59 He's like, no, it really is. I'm like, oh, man.
00:59:02 --> 00:59:08 Tim, Dave had you brainwashed, okay? Dave had you brainwashed. I mean, Dave's Corner.
00:59:08 --> 00:59:11 Oh, my God. You're out of control, man.
00:59:11 --> 00:59:18 You know it's your favorite part of the show. But anyway, and so I'm going to, you know, So since we,
00:59:19 --> 00:59:22 you know, we didn't talk about it, but, you know, there's always things that
00:59:22 --> 00:59:28 people might say or do that could bother you or things that is kind of going
00:59:28 --> 00:59:30 on in the world today that might bother you.
00:59:30 --> 00:59:33 So I just came up with a simple question.
00:59:33 --> 00:59:43 What three things bothers you the most right now that's happening in the world or in everyday life?
00:59:44 --> 00:59:46 In everyday life? Yeah.
00:59:47 --> 00:59:52 So, I'll probably say one, people who talk too much,
00:59:53 --> 01:00:01 you know, I feel like I run into a lot of people who, and I'll say two ways,
01:00:01 --> 01:00:06 one, they don't recognize when you're busy, you know, like, you know,
01:00:06 --> 01:00:08 people talk to you, you're trying to work or do something.
01:00:10 --> 01:00:16 Combine with people who don't realize that the conversation is over you know they just,
01:00:17 --> 01:00:21 yeah yeah like have you ever had someone when you're talking to them you're
01:00:21 --> 01:00:26 like uh-huh uh-huh oh oh okay okay and then like you turn around you've done
01:00:26 --> 01:00:28 that to me many times all right i get,
01:00:29 --> 01:00:34 it yeah yeah really you you you uh turn around try to walk away they're still talking,
01:00:34 --> 01:00:39 you try to get in your car they're still talking you shut the car door they're
01:00:39 --> 01:00:42 still talking you're like what about the people you get a phone call you're
01:00:42 --> 01:00:46 gonna answer the phone they wait right there wait you get off the phone yeah no,
01:00:48 --> 01:00:51 knowing that you don't call you knowing that you don't called yourself to you
01:00:51 --> 01:00:57 know just try to get away and they're still waiting yeah that's right so i'll
01:00:57 --> 01:00:58 say that's definitely one.
01:01:00 --> 01:01:06 Two is, and I mean, I'm a pretty on-time person, but occasionally,
01:01:06 --> 01:01:09 you know, when people make you late for stuff, like, you know,
01:01:10 --> 01:01:13 I guess I'll probably say better of wasting your time.
01:01:15 --> 01:01:20 Sometimes that, you know, that grinds my gears.
01:01:22 --> 01:01:26 I know that feeling all too well, Mr. Bennett. I mean, not from me,
01:01:26 --> 01:01:28 though. You know it from other people.
01:01:30 --> 01:01:36 And then the last thing number three bothers me the most right now,
01:01:37 --> 01:01:43 i'm i'm trying to think if there's anything in the world that bothers me,
01:01:44 --> 01:01:47 hey i to be honest i don't even know what that third thing is i mean i try not
01:01:47 --> 01:01:51 to get bothered all the stuff that all the stuff that could be bothering you
01:01:51 --> 01:01:55 can't think what the third thing is yeah but like when i think it bothers me
01:01:55 --> 01:01:58 the most i think of something like on a daily basis that I'm like,
01:01:59 --> 01:02:01 you know, gets under my skin about.
01:02:01 --> 01:02:05 And I can't say, you know, I mean, there's stuff that's disturbing,
01:02:05 --> 01:02:09 but I don't know if it kind of gets under my skin, so to speak.
01:02:10 --> 01:02:14 But I mean, if I was saying anything, I just say Donald Trump,
01:02:14 --> 01:02:20 you know, just, I just can't believe that everybody is not seeing through his BS.
01:02:21 --> 01:02:25 You know, I mean, it's just kind of shocking to me, especially like when I see
01:02:25 --> 01:02:28 certain black people who I'm connected to on Facebook.
01:02:29 --> 01:02:35 And they're just defending him and he's not racist. I mean, I just don't get it.
01:02:35 --> 01:02:39 All the time. Unbelievable. Yeah, what about yourself?
01:02:39 --> 01:02:47 What are three things that bother you the most right now, personally, worldwide, in the news.
01:02:49 --> 01:02:58 Yeah. Worldwide, I'm going to say the whole thing about this war that's supposedly being,
01:02:59 --> 01:03:02 fought for the reasons it's being
01:03:02 --> 01:03:08 fought, but it seems like it's a thing about control to me and money.
01:03:09 --> 01:03:14 Because basically it's about the oil, you know, and trying to get control over that.
01:03:15 --> 01:03:22 And people are getting killed in the meanwhile, and it just doesn't make any sense. That bothers me.
01:03:25 --> 01:03:31 I had to throw the president, and he definitely bothers me because he's made so much money.
01:03:32 --> 01:03:35 He's made so much money since he's been in office. You would think he'd been
01:03:35 --> 01:03:37 in office eight years. Right.
01:03:38 --> 01:03:42 It's only been a year, and he's
01:03:42 --> 01:03:46 so annoying. And, you know, we just got finished doing that story on him.
01:03:46 --> 01:03:52 You know, for him to do the stuff that he does and just has no accountability,
01:03:52 --> 01:03:58 doesn't apologize about anything that he does, and nobody seems to be able to
01:03:58 --> 01:04:00 do anything about him. I don't get it.
01:04:01 --> 01:04:03 I really don't. That's a big bother.
01:04:05 --> 01:04:14 The other thing is all these young people who are killing and shooting at each other.
01:04:15 --> 01:04:21 You know, I mean, you know, you got a daughter that's graduated from high school,
01:04:21 --> 01:04:22 getting ready to start college.
01:04:23 --> 01:04:28 And you got a son who will be graduating soon himself from high school.
01:04:29 --> 01:04:33 And, you know, when you see these things that go on with these kids and jealousy
01:04:33 --> 01:04:38 and so forth, And then how they get their hands on the guns Yeah,
01:04:39 --> 01:04:45 I mean are these guns Well no because they're using automatic weapons And everything We know,
01:04:46 --> 01:04:48 Are you getting your parents to buy these things Right.
01:04:50 --> 01:04:55 And why do you need an automatic weapon You know Every day we keep hearing about
01:04:55 --> 01:04:58 these Kids that are shooting at each other,
01:04:59 --> 01:05:05 You know It's just amazing to me That is really something that really bothers me a lot.
01:05:06 --> 01:05:10 You see, almost every day we're hearing a story about somebody under 20 years
01:05:10 --> 01:05:15 old either being arrested for shooting somebody or been shot.
01:05:16 --> 01:05:21 There was a prom season this year they said,
01:05:22 --> 01:05:29 that there was probably a good 20 kids that got shot, either shot at or a couple
01:05:29 --> 01:05:31 of them passed away because of the gunshots.
01:05:31 --> 01:05:37 You know, so that's, that's, that's ridiculous. You going to the prom,
01:05:38 --> 01:05:42 it's supposed to be like a highlight of your time in school. Right.
01:05:43 --> 01:05:44 And you got people dying.
01:05:45 --> 01:05:52 Yeah. That's, that's truly a big bother. Yeah, definitely. I'll throw a caveat in there. Gas prices.
01:05:55 --> 01:05:59 Yeah. Even though they, you know, they trying to, they trying to go down a little
01:05:59 --> 01:06:04 bit. But it was still, you know, we were at two-something at one point last
01:06:04 --> 01:06:05 year. You know what I mean?
01:06:05 --> 01:06:08 You know, yeah. Makes no sense. So...
01:06:10 --> 01:06:14 All right, so those are my things that bother me. So you guys can let us know
01:06:14 --> 01:06:21 what things bother you and hit us up and let us know what you're thinking and we'll go from there.
01:06:22 --> 01:06:30 We'll make sure that when you go to listen to the show that we have the Culture Check app,
01:06:31 --> 01:06:37 not the app, but the Culture Check information there for you to be able to go on and check it out,
01:06:38 --> 01:06:43 and, you know, give us a shout-out on how you liked the game and whatever,
01:06:43 --> 01:06:46 how well you did. I'm going to try it now that you got the...
01:06:46 --> 01:06:50 I'm going to try it again now that you have the, what do you call them on there,
01:06:50 --> 01:06:52 to see how I rank against other people.
01:06:52 --> 01:06:55 Okay, yeah, go ahead, Dave. Okay.
01:06:56 --> 01:06:59 Don't embarrass us, okay? Okay, I'll keep that in mind, okay?
01:07:01 --> 01:07:05 All right, well, that's our show for tonight, folks. As usual,
01:07:05 --> 01:07:08 we want to thank you for taking the time to listen.
01:07:08 --> 01:07:12 And we will be talking to you again next Tuesday.
01:07:22 --> 01:07:26 Tune in next week, ladies and gentlemen, for another edition of News and Trends
01:07:26 --> 01:07:28 with your hosts, Dave and Lynn.
