Hosts Dave and Leonard break down recent headlines—from the rain-delayed One Philly concert and World Cup upsets to Nicki Minaj's White House visit—while reflecting on how this Fourth of July felt different amid current politics.
The episode centers on the "America at 250" illustration and its message about enduring racial injustice, sparking a wider conversation about patriotism, celebrity choices, and what the nation’s 250th anniversary means for Black Americans.

00:01:30 --> 00:01:32 Hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young. What's going on,
00:01:32 --> 00:01:37 sir? Hey, Dave. Everything is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black
00:01:37 --> 00:01:44 Guide, DelawareBlack.com, Black Media Specialist, all-around good guy. How goes it?
00:01:44 --> 00:01:49 It goes, man. It goes. You know, it's been an interesting few days.
00:01:49 --> 00:01:54 You know, we've been through the country got a year older, you know.
00:01:56 --> 00:02:01 We had a lot of festivities going on, but a lot of crazy weather going on as well.
00:02:02 --> 00:02:07 All types of rain and storms and people did you see the flooding that was going
00:02:07 --> 00:02:11 on in new jersey i did yeah that was crazy yeah it,
00:02:12 --> 00:02:18 was crazy so it was just a lot going on but other than that how about yourself
00:02:18 --> 00:02:20 today i mean everything was good,
00:02:21 --> 00:02:26 i mean really no complaints they these days now are starting to fly by so you
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 know it almost feels like i'm doing hard work to think about what I did the
00:02:29 --> 00:02:34 last two, three days and what today's date is and what's going on tomorrow.
00:02:35 --> 00:02:40 Yeah, well, I tell you, the time is flying. I mean, here we are,
00:02:40 --> 00:02:44 you know, we're seventh month of the year already, and,
00:02:46 --> 00:02:49 It's just interesting how time seems to be moving so fast.
00:02:50 --> 00:02:54 You know, we'll think about one holiday, and then the next one's already on us already. Right.
00:02:55 --> 00:03:00 You know, of course, we had the Independence Day holiday over the weekend,
00:03:00 --> 00:03:04 and a lot of festivities, you know, a lot of things going on.
00:03:05 --> 00:03:07 Some things that we'll probably talk about today.
00:03:09 --> 00:03:12 I know one of the things I did get a chance, they had all kinds of stuff on
00:03:12 --> 00:03:17 TV, But one of the things I did get a chance to check out, I hope you guys did too.
00:03:17 --> 00:03:22 I was telling Leonard about it. The One Philly concert was really,
00:03:22 --> 00:03:24 really cool. I like what they did with that.
00:03:25 --> 00:03:28 They had all the performers were from Philadelphia, born and raised.
00:03:29 --> 00:03:34 And they had a slew of performers, but it got interrupted by the rain.
00:03:35 --> 00:03:39 And they had like a two-hour rain delay.
00:03:39 --> 00:03:44 Mayor Sherelle Parker decided, hey, we're going to get this in today.
00:03:44 --> 00:03:52 And so at 12, after midnight, it was like 12, 10 midnight after midnight,
00:03:52 --> 00:03:55 they decided to bring the performers back who hadn't performed yet.
00:03:56 --> 00:04:01 And they had them come on stage and do their thing. And that was the,
00:04:01 --> 00:04:05 let me see, the girl from Sister Sledge.
00:04:06 --> 00:04:14 Her and then the roots performed and they had beat mills they had state property
00:04:14 --> 00:04:18 with beanie seagull and freeway and and then they brought,
00:04:19 --> 00:04:24 big will out to do the the closing of the show jazzy jeffrey and the fresh prince
00:04:24 --> 00:04:29 came out and closed the show man it was a great concert and people just you
00:04:29 --> 00:04:32 could tell people really enjoyed themselves or whatever,
00:04:32 --> 00:04:36 so it was definitely a good look and made Philly look good,
00:04:36 --> 00:04:40 even though a lot of people were bad at the mirror because they were saying,
00:04:40 --> 00:04:41 how much is this going to cost?
00:04:45 --> 00:04:49 It was interesting it was really really good and the fact that they were determined
00:04:49 --> 00:04:52 to get it in jazzy jeff was like,
00:04:52 --> 00:04:56 he said well it was really great doing this and then we were able to,
00:04:57 --> 00:05:01 get it get it in even though it's not july technically it's not july 4th anymore
00:05:01 --> 00:05:08 because it was half the midnight so yeah so but it was a great it was a great look and um,
00:05:09 --> 00:05:13 you know everybody behaved themselves and everybody just had a good time, man.
00:05:13 --> 00:05:18 So, you know, I know there were some other things going on. I know the president
00:05:18 --> 00:05:23 had his thing going on, but, well, you know, hey, what can you say?
00:05:24 --> 00:05:28 But, you know, I'm glad that people enjoy themselves.
00:05:28 --> 00:05:33 It's really, it's funny, though, because how many times did you hear people
00:05:33 --> 00:05:35 say it's hard to celebrate this holiday anymore?
00:05:37 --> 00:05:44 Well, I mean, this year, maybe just because of people that we associate with just very often.
00:05:44 --> 00:05:50 And I mean, they, I'm sorry, people can celebrate the holiday. They can't celebrate.
00:05:51 --> 00:05:55 They can't rejoice in the reason for the holiday.
00:05:55 --> 00:05:58 Yes, I agree. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:05:58 --> 00:06:07 And the more this regime goes and is in power, the more that's going to be felt,
00:06:07 --> 00:06:12 too, because it's just a lot going on.
00:06:13 --> 00:06:19 And it's just bringing up a lot of old issues and a lot of things concerned,
00:06:19 --> 00:06:23 you know, I mean, you know, anytime you hear that 41,
00:06:24 --> 00:06:30 of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence had slaves back then.
00:06:32 --> 00:06:37 That's crazy, you know, but yet, you know, they're signing this,
00:06:37 --> 00:06:42 they're signing this thing, but yet they, they're enslaving people themselves.
00:06:43 --> 00:06:49 I mean, that's almost like all these people in church praising God and then
00:06:49 --> 00:06:54 afterwards they're beating slaves and raping women and, you know, doing all this stuff.
00:06:55 --> 00:06:59 Yeah. And at the same time calling us savages.
00:07:00 --> 00:07:04 How about that? How about that? Yeah. Well,
00:07:04 --> 00:07:11 you couldn't have one better depiction of the weekend than it was with the young
00:07:11 --> 00:07:16 lady that was on that bus with all the guys that had the mask on and everything on their way.
00:07:16 --> 00:07:18 Oh, yeah. You saw that picture, right?
00:07:20 --> 00:07:23 And that just said it all. It really did. You know, thank God.
00:07:24 --> 00:07:30 And they said, now, they did say that one of the guys did get up to give her a seat.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:35 But it still wasn't a good-looking picture. No, no. And I'm sure a lot of people
00:07:35 --> 00:07:36 would have been intimidated.
00:07:36 --> 00:07:40 Dave, I can't lie. If I got on a train and I saw a whole bunch of people like
00:07:40 --> 00:07:49 that, you know, I'm— Dave, do you remember in The Last Soldier, Marvel's movie?
00:07:49 --> 00:07:54 I think it was The Last Soldier or Iron Man, or maybe it was Avent.
00:07:54 --> 00:07:56 I don't know which one. You're talking about The Winter Soldier?
00:07:56 --> 00:07:59 Yes, The Winter Soldier. Yep. But I'm not sure if that's the right movie.
00:08:00 --> 00:08:06 When Steve Rogers, he walked into the elevator, and he walked into the elevator.
00:08:06 --> 00:08:08 That's my favorite part. That's my favorite part.
00:08:08 --> 00:08:13 The other, you know, probably security-type people, and he turns around,
00:08:13 --> 00:08:19 and it's like, you know, the elevator's ticking, and you know something's about to happen. Yeah.
00:08:20 --> 00:08:24 Yeah, yeah. That was, uh, I think that was Civil War. Yeah. Okay.
00:08:24 --> 00:08:26 Um, yeah, I remember that.
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 Yeah. That was one of my favorite parts of the movie, you know?
00:08:30 --> 00:08:35 So, because I remember in, um, what was the Endgame? They went back,
00:08:35 --> 00:08:38 remember they had to go back and get the Infinity Stone and they did that part
00:08:38 --> 00:08:42 all over again, but it was a different outcome that time, you know, so...
00:08:43 --> 00:08:49 Folks, you know, it's only going to get more interesting as time goes along.
00:08:49 --> 00:08:53 So I'm sure with some of the stories we're going to talk about tonight,
00:08:53 --> 00:08:55 you'll understand where we're going with this.
00:08:57 --> 00:09:01 So we're going to go ahead and get started. But before we get into the deep
00:09:01 --> 00:09:05 stories, how many of you guys have been following along with the World Cup and
00:09:05 --> 00:09:09 everything that's going on so far? It's been really interesting.
00:09:09 --> 00:09:12 Leonard and I have been following the World Cup.
00:09:12 --> 00:09:16 And the last couple of times, the last couple of weeks, we've been doing recaps
00:09:16 --> 00:09:18 of what we've seen so far.
00:09:19 --> 00:09:23 So one thing I will say, it's been very entertaining.
00:09:23 --> 00:09:26 The games haven't been competitive except for last night's game.
00:09:26 --> 00:09:27 I ain't going to comment on that.
00:09:27 --> 00:09:32 But, you know, but it's been pretty interesting. A lot of these games have been
00:09:32 --> 00:09:34 super close and gone down to the last moment.
00:09:35 --> 00:09:39 You know but the teams the big teams are starting to stand out you know the
00:09:39 --> 00:09:44 teams who are supposed to be the top teams are flexing their muscles right now
00:09:44 --> 00:09:48 right mm-hmm yeah they are yeah,
00:09:49 --> 00:09:54 because I mean well not all of them but majority of them yeah but you know we
00:09:54 --> 00:09:56 wasn't supposed to beat Belgium last night you know that right,
00:09:57 --> 00:10:02 And Belgium made sure we knew it. They knew it. The first couple minutes,
00:10:02 --> 00:10:04 they made sure we knew you were not going to beat them.
00:10:05 --> 00:10:07 You know, so they out-hustled the United States.
00:10:08 --> 00:10:10 They out-smarted them.
00:10:12 --> 00:10:17 You know, that last, the third goal, did you see all the last two goals? Yeah.
00:10:18 --> 00:10:22 That third goal where the goalkeeper was all the way up. Oh, yeah.
00:10:22 --> 00:10:26 And then the guy was back there, had a chance to stop the shot.
00:10:26 --> 00:10:29 And I don't know what he was doing. He put the wrong leg up or whatever,
00:10:29 --> 00:10:31 trying to keep the ball from going in.
00:10:32 --> 00:10:36 What I think it is, it came at him so fast. He didn't know what to do.
00:10:36 --> 00:10:37 Yeah, like he was trying to move.
00:10:38 --> 00:10:39 And it's so funny because they
00:10:39 --> 00:10:43 kept on showing that replay. He's kind of hovering in air with his feet.
00:10:44 --> 00:10:48 But I'm assuming that, you know, everything just happened so quick.
00:10:48 --> 00:10:51 He didn't have the time to get his legs in the right position.
00:10:51 --> 00:10:54 If he had just fallen down, he would have stopped that ball.
00:10:55 --> 00:11:00 Yeah, I mean, but, you know, high insight 50-50. Yeah, I know,
00:11:00 --> 00:11:03 I know. But that was really funny. If Trump had just kept his mouth shut,
00:11:03 --> 00:11:07 you know, we might have had a fight in dreams. I know, I know.
00:11:08 --> 00:11:12 Anytime he gets involved, we're going to lose. And that's exactly what happened.
00:11:12 --> 00:11:15 He had a lot to say earlier, and we lost.
00:11:16 --> 00:11:19 Well, Dave, let me ask you this. since Trump did get involved,
00:11:20 --> 00:11:24 and people are calling it the Trump effect, the Trump curse.
00:11:24 --> 00:11:28 Do you take anything off of the USA soccer team and put more?
00:11:29 --> 00:11:33 I mean, Dave, think about it. If Trump hadn't done anything and they lost this
00:11:33 --> 00:11:36 way, they would be getting 100% of the flat.
00:11:37 --> 00:11:41 At this point, they're only getting like 85% of the flat. You know what I mean?
00:11:41 --> 00:11:43 Yeah, I was going to say, they're still getting their share,
00:11:43 --> 00:11:48 though, because they played horrible last night. And Pulisic might well stay on the bench.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:53 He didn't do anything. No, he didn't. And then he got injured and he was hobbling.
00:11:53 --> 00:11:57 Yeah, yeah. And then they took him out of the game at the end.
00:11:57 --> 00:12:01 So I was just like, this is not good, man. This is not good.
00:12:03 --> 00:12:07 But then we also saw Portugal go down, your favorite team there.
00:12:08 --> 00:12:12 We saw them go down. And, well, somebody else went down the other day. Who was that?
00:12:13 --> 00:12:17 Spain? No. Spain won. Mexico went down. Mm-hmm.
00:12:18 --> 00:12:23 Yeah, Mexico went down. I got a lot of people thought Mexico was going to go
00:12:23 --> 00:12:26 a little bit further. So I don't know.
00:12:27 --> 00:12:31 I told Leonard folks, I think my pick is Argentina to win this whole thing.
00:12:31 --> 00:12:34 Leonard. That sounds like a bandwagon pick.
00:12:36 --> 00:12:41 Look, I told you this pick a while back, man. Don't even try it before you even
00:12:41 --> 00:12:44 made your little pick. I said, I don't know. I think Argentina is the team to beat.
00:12:47 --> 00:12:51 I was going to say on a side note, I made my pick because I heard this girl
00:12:51 --> 00:12:54 talking on Instagram and she
00:12:54 --> 00:13:00 was saying, she was like the last four teams that have won the World Cup.
00:13:00 --> 00:13:06 She was said each World Cup logo because the logo changes color just a little bit.
00:13:07 --> 00:13:12 Right. She said that's the team that has won whose colors are in the logo.
00:13:12 --> 00:13:16 And she was like, this World Cup, Portugal's colors are in the logo.
00:13:16 --> 00:13:19 That was the whole reason why I bet on Portugal.
00:13:20 --> 00:13:26 You know, now you need to bet on skill. It was good. So I think,
00:13:27 --> 00:13:30 like I said, I like Argentina, but then we can't forget about France either.
00:13:31 --> 00:13:38 Yeah, because Mape is right there with Messi as far as the way this tournament's gone so far.
00:13:39 --> 00:13:43 And you can't forget about Norway because that... Holland. Yeah,
00:13:43 --> 00:13:45 he's good, too. Yeah, he's good, too. Yeah.
00:13:46 --> 00:13:50 Matt Bay kind of reminds me of, to be honest, a little bit. Don't he kind of
00:13:50 --> 00:13:54 look like him a little bit? Yeah, a little bit. Yeah, yeah.
00:13:55 --> 00:13:58 But I guess we're going to see how the rest of this goes. I mean,
00:13:59 --> 00:14:02 I wonder how many of you guys are going to still be invested that have been
00:14:02 --> 00:14:04 watching now that the Americans got beat.
00:14:06 --> 00:14:09 Well, we say they're Americans, but it's funny when you listen to that,
00:14:09 --> 00:14:11 most of them talk, they all seem like they got an accent, don't they?
00:14:12 --> 00:14:17 Yeah, like even the coach. Yeah, and they're already saying they don't know
00:14:17 --> 00:14:18 if the coach is going to be back.
00:14:19 --> 00:14:23 Yeah, because, you know, the coach, okay, and I mean, this is my last World
00:14:23 --> 00:14:26 Cup talk. He didn't look like he did a lot of adjustments, did he?
00:14:27 --> 00:14:32 No, because he kept saying things like, or I'm sorry, maybe it was the commentators,
00:14:32 --> 00:14:34 but they were like, he can only do so much.
00:14:35 --> 00:14:37 And a lot of times he was sitting down. I'm like, okay. Yeah,
00:14:38 --> 00:14:41 yeah, yeah. He didn't do, like, you see the mother coaches, they be animated
00:14:41 --> 00:14:46 and everything. They be getting out there with the refs. You ever notice? Yeah.
00:14:46 --> 00:14:51 Yeah, so, but it's going to be interesting. I mean, we'll see. We'll see what happens.
00:14:53 --> 00:14:58 But will you guys still be invested now that the Americans are gone?
00:14:58 --> 00:15:02 I'm just curious as to see how many people are still going to be watching.
00:15:02 --> 00:15:08 Even though it's done very well, I mean, you know, the viewership is way up,
00:15:08 --> 00:15:11 and it's been interesting. It really has been.
00:15:13 --> 00:15:18 Okay. All right. You got anything you want to add before we move on? No.
00:15:18 --> 00:15:22 I mean, that really has enough World Cup talk for me for today.
00:15:24 --> 00:15:28 All right. We're going to move on to our first story.
00:15:28 --> 00:15:32 You're going to see a little theme with my stories today.
00:15:34 --> 00:15:39 And do yourself a favor, Leonard, as I'm talking about the story.
00:15:41 --> 00:15:46 The email I sent to you that has the link, I want you to look at the picture
00:15:46 --> 00:15:48 that's attached to that link.
00:15:49 --> 00:15:51 You know, when they say a picture is worth a thousand words,
00:15:51 --> 00:15:53 because I want to talk about this picture.
00:15:54 --> 00:15:59 Yeah, I have it up. Okay. So this is 250 years of America.
00:16:02 --> 00:16:08 Teo Fatanala, I think it's the African name, documents unfinished business in
00:16:08 --> 00:16:11 New York, Amsterdam. News.
00:16:11 --> 00:16:18 So, Teo's unfinished business illustration in a current issue of the New York
00:16:18 --> 00:16:23 Astrodram News is a visual continuum of the struggle and resilience,
00:16:24 --> 00:16:28 a timeline rendered in ink and emotion.
00:16:30 --> 00:16:36 By linking Dreads God and George Floyd, Fondela compresses centuries of racial
00:16:36 --> 00:16:40 injustice into a single searing composition.
00:16:41 --> 00:16:46 His work doesn't simply memorialize, it indicts.
00:16:46 --> 00:16:51 The faces and the gestures he draws carries the weight of history.
00:16:51 --> 00:16:58 Yet his line work breathes life into the ongoing demand for equality.
00:16:59 --> 00:17:04 Fondola's Hallmark-style, bold, contouring, expressive caricature,
00:17:05 --> 00:17:11 and historical precision transform the piece into a book, a documentation, and protest.
00:17:12 --> 00:17:16 The illustration's power lies in its clarity.
00:17:18 --> 00:17:22 The thorough line between the past and present is unmistakable.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:28 It reminds viewers that the fight for justice is not episodic,
00:17:28 --> 00:17:33 but continuous and echoing through generations.
00:17:34 --> 00:17:40 In the context of the unfinished business issue is the artwork on page six of
00:17:40 --> 00:17:44 the Astro Jam News, functions as a mirror and a map.
00:17:45 --> 00:17:55 It reflects the unfinished work of democracy and charts the persistence of systematic inequity.
00:17:56 --> 00:18:02 Fonela's visual storytelling invites viewers to confront uncomfortable truths,
00:18:03 --> 00:18:06 while celebrating the endurance of those who resist.
00:18:07 --> 00:18:15 So, what we are talking about is this illustration that was done by Fonela,
00:18:15 --> 00:18:18 and it says America at 250 people.
00:18:20 --> 00:18:23 It says a national reality check.
00:18:23 --> 00:18:27 Now, when you look at this, Leonard, we're going to go through the timeline
00:18:27 --> 00:18:30 that it has. When you look at this, what do you think of it?
00:18:31 --> 00:18:38 I think this definitely gives a depiction of the other side of America going
00:18:38 --> 00:18:41 through the last 250 years. That's right.
00:18:42 --> 00:18:49 And that's exactly what it does. And it's really interesting as to how they do it.
00:18:50 --> 00:18:57 So, but do me a favor. You go through the honors and just kind of say what you
00:18:57 --> 00:19:00 see there, starting at the top there.
00:19:00 --> 00:19:04 All right. So at the top, I see they're talking about Dred Scott,
00:19:05 --> 00:19:09 which declared African-American property.
00:19:10 --> 00:19:16 And here it says it's still acting like America never rescinded that claim.
00:19:16 --> 00:19:19 So almost like black people are property. Thank you.
00:19:21 --> 00:19:26 And it shows kind of like a little, looks like a courthouse burning.
00:19:27 --> 00:19:34 And it says, when black prosperity rose, white rage burned it down and the nation
00:19:34 --> 00:19:37 watched the smoke as if it were the weather.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:43 So, of course, Tulsa comes up to me because, you know, that was exactly kind
00:19:43 --> 00:19:47 of like a black Wall Street and they burned it down.
00:19:48 --> 00:19:52 Then it has some pictures of some buses. It looks like busing segregation.
00:19:54 --> 00:19:59 And it says the government feared black intelligence more than it feared injustice.
00:20:00 --> 00:20:04 You know, I mean, I feel like that right there. Self, self-explanatory.
00:20:06 --> 00:20:11 Then it looks like it has a picture of looks like Nixon, but somebody on TV,
00:20:12 --> 00:20:15 and it says policy became punishment.
00:20:16 --> 00:20:20 The state traded compassion for cages and called it law and order.
00:20:21 --> 00:20:28 Integration was treated as invasion and the mob called it protecting their children.
00:20:29 --> 00:20:34 That makes me think of all the videos I see on social media where they interview white people.
00:20:34 --> 00:20:38 I guess, by in the 50s and 60s when black people are starting to come into their
00:20:38 --> 00:20:42 neighborhood or starting to come into their schools and they're just talking,
00:20:43 --> 00:20:47 you know, they're, you know, just talking crazy, which, you know,
00:20:47 --> 00:20:48 Dave, I mean, it's kind of weird.
00:20:49 --> 00:20:51 Some of them. And I.
00:20:52 --> 00:20:57 And I think it's a lot different now. I think back then when we were segregated,
00:20:58 --> 00:21:02 a lot of these white people didn't even know black people personally,
00:21:02 --> 00:21:04 didn't even really interact with them.
00:21:05 --> 00:21:08 But, you know, the racism came from their parents, their parents,
00:21:08 --> 00:21:10 parents, their parents, parents, parents.
00:21:11 --> 00:21:18 Then it looks like the next part goes to kind of like the Black Lives Matter era.
00:21:18 --> 00:21:23 And one of the quotes says the knee was never just one man, the knee was never
00:21:23 --> 00:21:29 just on one man's neck it was on the promise of equality itself.
00:21:30 --> 00:21:38 Progress and there's a picture of like George Floyd yeah George Floyd and Black Lives Matter and all.
00:21:40 --> 00:21:45 And then at the very bottom it says progress was never rebranded as privilege,
00:21:46 --> 00:21:51 and the court erased the latter pretending to level the ground.
00:21:51 --> 00:21:56 So Dave, I think anyone who is of color in America knows that this is not a
00:21:56 --> 00:21:58 level playing field. Oh, definitely not.
00:21:59 --> 00:22:04 And it's definitely not level. It never, well, I don't know.
00:22:05 --> 00:22:07 We can never say never, right? We've been taught that all our lives.
00:22:07 --> 00:22:14 But I don't know for that to happen in our lifetime, that we even come close to being equal.
00:22:14 --> 00:22:19 So it says at the very bottom, it says this is not history repeating itself.
00:22:19 --> 00:22:26 It's history refusing to die and America refusing to kill it.
00:22:27 --> 00:22:28 That's a deep statement right there.
00:22:30 --> 00:22:36 I think this illustration could be put up somewhere where everybody can see it.
00:22:37 --> 00:22:42 I think it's well done. I think it's very honest, very revealing.
00:22:42 --> 00:22:49 And it tells a story that we know that they don't want to hear or they don't want to acknowledge.
00:22:51 --> 00:22:57 And especially in today's world, which is not good. It really isn't.
00:22:59 --> 00:23:03 There's so much that you can say about this whole thing. And especially,
00:23:03 --> 00:23:07 like I said, just kind of watching everything unfold over the weekend.
00:23:08 --> 00:23:12 Trump with his whole, his little celebration, as he called it,
00:23:12 --> 00:23:16 and trying to get all these people to perform. And how many people backed out
00:23:16 --> 00:23:19 because they tried. First of all, they lied to a lot of them.
00:23:19 --> 00:23:21 Didn't even tell them what they were doing.
00:23:23 --> 00:23:27 And as soon as they found out, he was involved. A lot of them backed out.
00:23:28 --> 00:23:31 You know, and Dave, I was going to say one last World Cup thing I just want
00:23:31 --> 00:23:33 to mention because I thought it was hilarious.
00:23:33 --> 00:23:41 Did you see the Belgium team and players and fans doing the Trump dance after they won?
00:23:42 --> 00:23:45 Yeah. Well, you can already pick out the teams that will be going to the White
00:23:45 --> 00:23:49 House probably. If they decide if he's an invite.
00:23:49 --> 00:23:52 But we knew he was going to try to invite the American team.
00:23:52 --> 00:23:56 But yeah. But did you see them mocking the USA? Yeah.
00:23:58 --> 00:24:02 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, one guy, there was one of the, one of the matches,
00:24:03 --> 00:24:04 they were playing the national anthem.
00:24:05 --> 00:24:09 Oh, was it this last one or was it the last USA match?
00:24:09 --> 00:24:14 And you can see a couple of the, the, the players. Who's that?
00:24:14 --> 00:24:17 Who's that last thing they played? Was that Turkey yet?
00:24:18 --> 00:24:21 That they played before this game? Who was that?
00:24:22 --> 00:24:28 I'm not sure. Okay, whoever that was, they were mouthing to each other and laughing
00:24:28 --> 00:24:32 or whatever. You could tell they were just totally not respecting what was going
00:24:32 --> 00:24:34 on at that moment. So, you know, so.
00:24:35 --> 00:24:40 But yeah, when their national anthem was on, they were singing loud and proud, you know? So, yeah.
00:24:41 --> 00:24:44 We're in a different place, people. We're in a different world.
00:24:44 --> 00:24:49 And you would think by 2020, 2026 things would have gotten better.
00:24:49 --> 00:24:53 But as you can see, with a celebration like this, 250 years,
00:24:53 --> 00:24:59 all it does is bring up old wounds and bring up more concerns because of how
00:24:59 --> 00:25:04 they're trying to erase everything that truly happened and really happened.
00:25:04 --> 00:25:08 So just wanted to bring that up because I thought this was a great,
00:25:09 --> 00:25:13 great piece, great illustration and something that's definitely worth noting.
00:25:14 --> 00:25:16 So I just wanted to make sure I brought that up.
00:25:17 --> 00:25:21 Anything you want to add before we move on? No, I mean, I think it's just one
00:25:21 --> 00:25:24 of the things where, you know.
00:25:25 --> 00:25:30 The same way certain people act towards Juneteenth is the same way a lot of
00:25:30 --> 00:25:32 Black people are acting towards Fourth of July now.
00:25:35 --> 00:25:38 Yeah, I guess you're right. I didn't even think about that, but I guess you're
00:25:38 --> 00:25:41 right. Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense, yeah.
00:25:42 --> 00:25:45 All right. Well, moving on and staying in the same lane,
00:25:47 --> 00:25:54 Donald Trump calls Nicki Minaj so hot during visit to the White House.
00:25:54 --> 00:25:57 She's a woman that's respected by everybody.
00:25:57 --> 00:26:00 This is Donald Trump talking about Nicki Minaj.
00:26:00 --> 00:26:04 Now, all of a sudden, you're probably thinking to yourself, okay,
00:26:04 --> 00:26:06 I wonder what their relationship really is now.
00:26:08 --> 00:26:15 But it says, President Donald Trump lusted. They said lusted to hear over rapper
00:26:15 --> 00:26:17 Nicki Minaj doing a lunch at the White House.
00:26:18 --> 00:26:24 Rose Garden Patio, calling the controversial singer, they call her a singer,
00:26:24 --> 00:26:26 but we know she's more of a rapper than a singer.
00:26:27 --> 00:26:30 So hot, is what he said.
00:26:31 --> 00:26:37 Okay. The 80-year-old president gave the 43-year-old anaconda singer.
00:26:37 --> 00:26:38 I love the words they choose.
00:26:40 --> 00:26:44 All the songs they could have said, they're going to say I had a comment. I had a comment.
00:26:45 --> 00:26:52 Whom has grown particularly fond of, who he has grown particularly fond of after
00:26:52 --> 00:26:53 she embraced the MAGA movement.
00:26:55 --> 00:26:59 A shout out during the White House event on Monday.
00:26:59 --> 00:27:04 We also have a woman that is so respected and is so hot,
00:27:04 --> 00:27:10 and so great and such a great friend of, I don't say conservative,
00:27:10 --> 00:27:16 I say of common sense, Trump said, before going on a rant about,
00:27:18 --> 00:27:21 democratic socialists and communism.
00:27:22 --> 00:27:27 Turning his focus back to Minaj, Trump added, she's a fantastic person and she's
00:27:27 --> 00:27:30 a woman that's respected by everybody.
00:27:30 --> 00:27:34 And she's got real talent, y'all. She's got real talents, you know.
00:27:36 --> 00:27:39 Nicki Minaj. And then Nicki stands up.
00:27:39 --> 00:27:44 Please stand up, he said. Such a great person and respected by everybody,
00:27:44 --> 00:27:46 the president added, according to the Daily Beast.
00:27:47 --> 00:27:51 The rapper shared several photos and videos of her day at the White House,
00:27:51 --> 00:27:58 including ones that are proposing in front of Trump's presidential walk of fame.
00:28:00 --> 00:28:06 And next to the image of an auto-pin Trump installed in place of a portrait,
00:28:07 --> 00:28:10 of former President Joe Biden. So crazy.
00:28:11 --> 00:28:17 Whoa. White House Barbie with her favorite president of all time.
00:28:17 --> 00:28:21 She wrote alongside a photo of her and Trump in the Oval Office.
00:28:22 --> 00:28:28 Minaj previously visited the White House in January to promote the Trump accounts.
00:28:28 --> 00:28:35 Then it says, Trump also seemed to be enamored by the rapper then and brought up her skin.
00:28:36 --> 00:28:39 Okay, this is, you already know this is crazy, right?
00:28:40 --> 00:28:45 Brought up her skin and her nails unprompted during an address to Mark Black
00:28:45 --> 00:28:49 History Month, a month after she visited.
00:28:49 --> 00:28:54 I love Nicki Minaj. I love her skin. Look at those nails. You know?
00:28:56 --> 00:29:00 You know, basically, he said, look at this black, you know what.
00:29:01 --> 00:29:06 He was here a couple of weeks ago. He's so beautiful. Her skin is so beautiful.
00:29:06 --> 00:29:08 He keeps mentioning her skin.
00:29:09 --> 00:29:12 He said in February, later obsessing over her nails, saying,
00:29:13 --> 00:29:17 her nails, her nails, her nails. They're like that long.
00:29:18 --> 00:29:25 Also, after her visit, the Trinidadian-born musician who has admitted to entering
00:29:25 --> 00:29:30 the country illegally launched her last Trump gold card,
00:29:31 --> 00:29:36 which proves a fast track to American citizenship for those willing to make
00:29:36 --> 00:29:38 a million-dollar donation to the U.S.
00:29:38 --> 00:29:42 Treasury and pay a $15 processing fee.
00:29:43 --> 00:29:46 So, is that really going to the Treasury or to his pocket? Right.
00:29:46 --> 00:29:54 Okay. On social media, Minaj claimed to have received her gold Trump card free of charge.
00:29:54 --> 00:30:00 The flashy gold colored card turned out to be a meaningless memento.
00:30:01 --> 00:30:08 The rapper already has a green card and has been a legal permanent resident for about 20 years,
00:30:08 --> 00:30:16 meaning she is well past the point of needing an immigration fast track Menardsville
00:30:16 --> 00:30:21 did not support Trump during his first term, as recently become a more frequent
00:30:21 --> 00:30:23 presence in the MAGA world.
00:30:24 --> 00:30:29 She has appeared at the White House in support of the president and the Turning
00:30:29 --> 00:30:31 Point USA America's Fest.
00:30:32 --> 00:30:38 The White House, I mean, I'm sorry, the rapper declared herself Trump's number one fan in January.
00:30:39 --> 00:30:44 However, her outspoken support of Trump has alienated many of her fans,
00:30:44 --> 00:30:50 even though she has tried to explain her reasoning behind backing the Republican.
00:30:52 --> 00:30:54 I'm going to let you go first on this one. What's your thoughts?
00:30:54 --> 00:30:58 Dave, there's really nothing to say about her. I mean.
00:31:00 --> 00:31:07 I don't know. To me, Nicki Minaj is old news. Do you think she has sold her
00:31:07 --> 00:31:14 soul and her career for trying to use Trump to get the things that she needs done?
00:31:15 --> 00:31:18 I mean, I think she definitely sold herself out. But, you know,
00:31:18 --> 00:31:23 unfortunately, you know, black people, I mean, it's not like we're going to
00:31:23 --> 00:31:25 come together and give her a 100 percent band.
00:31:25 --> 00:31:29 So I feel like she'll just kind of live on like Kanye. You know,
00:31:29 --> 00:31:32 he did a whole bunch of crazy stuff and then he come out with a new album.
00:31:32 --> 00:31:37 And, you know, people just, you know, treat them however they treat them.
00:31:38 --> 00:31:42 And I guess Nikki will always sell records, right?
00:31:42 --> 00:31:46 Yeah and and i mean david it's not like people gotta stop listening stop listening
00:31:46 --> 00:31:52 to her old music either you know no yeah well that's just like r kelly i you know,
00:31:53 --> 00:31:57 i saw something the other day where r kelly it was an old clip of r kelly i
00:31:57 --> 00:32:03 don't know if you saw this was sitting there with minister farrakhan and his late wife and,
00:32:04 --> 00:32:08 i believe i complied was one of her favorite songs and so she asked R.
00:32:08 --> 00:32:11 Kelly to sing, he gets up to start singing the song.
00:32:14 --> 00:32:19 And this was before he went to jail, of course. And I'm saying to myself,
00:32:19 --> 00:32:25 I wonder how they feel about him now, and whether they would still be in his
00:32:25 --> 00:32:27 presence asking him to sing.
00:32:28 --> 00:32:30 But you never know. You never know. Because when I read the comments,
00:32:30 --> 00:32:33 everybody was saying, free Robert Kelly.
00:32:35 --> 00:32:41 You know, so I don't know. It's just funny how people will give some people
00:32:41 --> 00:32:43 a pass, but won't give others a pass.
00:32:45 --> 00:32:49 It was just like, I saw something yesterday on Threads, and it was Jamie Foxx
00:32:49 --> 00:32:53 was up there, you know, being Jamie Foxx, and he's up there talking about,
00:32:53 --> 00:33:00 you know, he's in a room full of black women and, you know, minority women,
00:33:00 --> 00:33:04 and he's up there acting to fool them, up there talking about how much he loved them and whatever.
00:33:05 --> 00:33:08 But yet, he won't date any of them, and he has a young black,
00:33:08 --> 00:33:10 I mean, a white woman impregnated.
00:33:12 --> 00:33:16 After he said on his special that he was cured of white women,
00:33:16 --> 00:33:19 remember that? And that he wasn't going to date any white women again, remember that?
00:33:20 --> 00:33:28 Yeah. You know, so he had been delivered. Been delivered. Yep, that's right. Yep.
00:33:29 --> 00:33:35 But yet, he's playing in our faces, you know, and, but people always going to love Jamie Foxx. Yeah.
00:33:35 --> 00:33:40 And Dave, you know, I think at the end of the day, everybody individually has
00:33:40 --> 00:33:45 to choose who are they going to support, why, and then like what's the breaking point?
00:33:45 --> 00:33:53 Because it's like, you know, if we lived every day for people to not disappoint
00:33:53 --> 00:33:58 us or anything like that, you know, we, Dave, you know, at the end of the year,
00:33:58 --> 00:34:02 there'd be nobody we'd be supporting. You know, someone let us down.
00:34:03 --> 00:34:05 Always. Always will.
00:34:06 --> 00:34:08 And it's really a shame because you know,
00:34:10 --> 00:34:14 You know, there was a saying back on biblical times, you know,
00:34:14 --> 00:34:21 in the Bible, when God said thou should not put anyone before me. You know.
00:34:23 --> 00:34:28 When you put your faith in man and you put them on a pedestal,
00:34:29 --> 00:34:35 you better believe they won't stay up there the whole time. They're going to step off at some point.
00:34:35 --> 00:34:41 And then your thing is, what are you going to do and how are you going to feel
00:34:41 --> 00:34:43 when they step off that pedestal?
00:34:44 --> 00:34:45 Because they're going to do it.
00:34:46 --> 00:34:51 It's no doubt about it. They're going to do it. You know, we got all kinds of
00:34:51 --> 00:34:53 celebrities in trouble right now.
00:34:53 --> 00:35:00 Right. And, you know, I was thinking, too, do you feel that the more popular
00:35:00 --> 00:35:05 somebody is, the less likely people are?
00:35:06 --> 00:35:09 So, I mean, I always try to think about, like, Bill Cosby. I feel like a lot
00:35:09 --> 00:35:10 of people cut Bill Cosby off.
00:35:11 --> 00:35:17 But, you know, he was way past his prime. If Bill Cosby had been Cliff Huxtable
00:35:17 --> 00:35:25 prime Cosby and all these allegations came out, So do you think people would have, you know, kind of.
00:35:27 --> 00:35:32 Blacklisted? Do you think the black community would have blacklisted him?
00:35:33 --> 00:35:38 I don't know. It depends. I mean, it all depends on, I mean,
00:35:38 --> 00:35:43 when you look at everything that you found out that he was doing and everything,
00:35:43 --> 00:35:45 you know, you say to yourself, wow.
00:35:45 --> 00:35:51 You know, I mean, this guy basically was pro-black for everything, right? Yeah.
00:35:52 --> 00:35:57 And, and then the year that he was doing everything that he was doing and.
00:35:59 --> 00:36:02 I don't know, man. That's what I'm saying. You should never put your faith in
00:36:02 --> 00:36:05 man. I mean, because man will always disappoint you.
00:36:06 --> 00:36:13 Always. And especially certain men will disappoint you.
00:36:13 --> 00:36:18 You know? I mean, we got the most disappointing proof of a man,
00:36:19 --> 00:36:21 and he's leading our country. Yeah.
00:36:22 --> 00:36:27 For the second time. For a second time. Making more of a mess this time around
00:36:27 --> 00:36:29 than he ever did the first time around.
00:36:31 --> 00:36:32 So, I don't know.
00:36:34 --> 00:36:38 I don't know. You know, it's a little frustrating. It really is.
00:36:38 --> 00:36:44 So, and with that being said, I got another one for you.
00:36:45 --> 00:36:51 No, I'm, wait, I got one more before you do yours, okay? Mm-hmm.
00:36:52 --> 00:36:58 And this one says, What to Black Americans is the USA 250th.
00:37:01 --> 00:37:07 Anniversary under the presidency of Donald Trump? So what to Black Americans does this mean?
00:37:09 --> 00:37:14 I want you to listen to this. It says, as the United States marks 250 years
00:37:14 --> 00:37:22 for Black Americans grappling with the nation's history comes with a sobering reality.
00:37:23 --> 00:37:28 Of those more than two centuries as a Democrat, Democratic Republican,
00:37:29 --> 00:37:36 Black people only truly enjoy full citizenship for just more than 60 years.
00:37:37 --> 00:37:41 And that's deep right there, that statement right there. Over two centuries,
00:37:42 --> 00:37:51 as Democratic Republic, but we've only enjoyed full citizenship for just about 60 years.
00:37:53 --> 00:37:57 Dating back to the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965,
00:37:58 --> 00:38:04 prior to that, most of America's existence included the enslavement of black Americans.
00:38:05 --> 00:38:12 And as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson reminded in the recent USA Supreme Court
00:38:12 --> 00:38:16 opinion, Black people being relegated to an inferior,
00:38:18 --> 00:38:23 caste by law of otherwise or otherwise.
00:38:24 --> 00:38:28 As President Donald Trump marks this historical moment for the United States,
00:38:29 --> 00:38:35 Black Americans and other minority groups, women, LGBTQ+,
00:38:36 --> 00:38:44 Latino, and Hispanic, have seen rollbacks of civil rights protections and equal
00:38:44 --> 00:38:47 access to unalienable rights.
00:38:50 --> 00:38:54 That was supposed to make Americans great again.
00:38:55 --> 00:39:00 We say that all men are created equal, but we also have ensured that no matter
00:39:00 --> 00:39:06 who you are and where you come from in this country and what color you are,
00:39:06 --> 00:39:11 that you have access to the tools that will help you to succeed in life.
00:39:12 --> 00:39:18 Excuse me, says Patrice Willoughby, Chief of Policy and Legislative Affairs,
00:39:19 --> 00:39:24 at the NAACP, the nation's oldest civil rights organization.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:27 Despite the promises made to formerly enslaved Black people,
00:39:28 --> 00:39:29 namely 40 acres and a mule,
00:39:30 --> 00:39:35 after sacrificing their lives in the American Civil War, which nearly broke
00:39:35 --> 00:39:37 the nation's short-lived existence,
00:39:38 --> 00:39:44 Black Americans are still demanding equity from a country that has actively,
00:39:44 --> 00:39:46 excluded them since its founding.
00:39:48 --> 00:39:52 That is ironic, this will be, considering that the U.S.
00:39:52 --> 00:39:58 Many freedoms movements were powered by the organizing and leadership of black
00:39:58 --> 00:40:04 Americans, including formerly enslaved abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass,
00:40:05 --> 00:40:06 Harriet Tubman, and Sir Jim R.
00:40:06 --> 00:40:10 Truth, and civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King,
00:40:11 --> 00:40:15 Bayard Rustin, and the Reverend Jesse Jackson.
00:40:17 --> 00:40:24 Every other racial and ethnic group has patterned their liberations and struggles
00:40:24 --> 00:40:28 on the work of Black America, she told Degria.
00:40:29 --> 00:40:35 Is a much broader question of fairness and opportunity that we need to examine
00:40:35 --> 00:40:41 a society. Even we acknowledge that the past history of this country has created.
00:40:43 --> 00:40:50 Disadvantages based upon race. Despite symbiotic gains for Black Americans like
00:40:50 --> 00:40:53 the presidential election of Barack Obama,
00:40:54 --> 00:40:58 and historical wins like the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act,
00:40:59 --> 00:41:05 rural blacks have expanded, and many socioeconomic barriers persist.
00:41:05 --> 00:41:10 Other than President Trump, black Americans have the highest rates of unemployment
00:41:10 --> 00:41:17 and poverty, and yet the lowest rates in wealth and wages, health care, and home ownership.
00:41:18 --> 00:41:24 When you think about the five demands that the formerly enslaved required education,
00:41:24 --> 00:41:31 they required was education, housing, healthcare, good-paying jobs, and transportation.
00:41:31 --> 00:41:38 Now, think about that was years ago that those things were the demands that
00:41:38 --> 00:41:43 we required, and we're still dealing with those same demands today because we
00:41:43 --> 00:41:46 don't have these things. All of us don't have these things.
00:41:46 --> 00:41:52 Those are literally all of the areas which the administration has attacked.
00:41:53 --> 00:41:58 Said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who repeatedly battled with the Trump administration
00:41:58 --> 00:42:03 over immigration and law enforcement in the majority black and brown cities.
00:42:03 --> 00:42:08 He told the Greo, this country cannot fulfill its true promise of life,
00:42:09 --> 00:42:13 liberty, and happiness without the complete liberation of black people.
00:42:14 --> 00:42:19 Black leaders are also grappling with former enslaved states in the South,
00:42:19 --> 00:42:26 drawing Black voters out of power and the efforts to erase or whitewash Black
00:42:26 --> 00:42:30 historical events are facts from the public schools and spaces.
00:42:31 --> 00:42:37 Donald Trump has continually tried to whitewash America to try to rewrite history,
00:42:38 --> 00:42:42 not just decades old, but also recent history.
00:42:42 --> 00:42:46 Throughout the course of administration, said Austin Davis, the current and
00:42:46 --> 00:42:51 first Black lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, He told the Griot,
00:42:51 --> 00:42:57 we have to learn from the history of America, yet that is complicated history for many folks.
00:42:57 --> 00:43:03 And I think the way to not repeat it is to know our history and to talk about
00:43:03 --> 00:43:05 it openly and to share it.
00:43:06 --> 00:43:08 There's a lot more here, but I'm going to stop here.
00:43:09 --> 00:43:13 I heard a lot of this over the weekend, a lot of talk like this.
00:43:14 --> 00:43:21 As this holiday that we just had, the 4th of July, was coming and passing.
00:43:23 --> 00:43:26 So a lot of this is definitely real for a lot of people.
00:43:27 --> 00:43:33 Do you feel the same way as, you know, like the stuff I just read?
00:43:33 --> 00:43:38 Do you feel all of that's real and that things haven't gotten any better,
00:43:38 --> 00:43:41 that they're getting worse? Do you feel the same way?
00:43:42 --> 00:43:48 Yeah, I mean, I do. You know, I think there's a natural progression of society
00:43:48 --> 00:43:53 where every where some things feel like they're getting better because we're
00:43:53 --> 00:43:54 seeing like different viewpoints.
00:43:55 --> 00:44:00 But, you know, I think at the end of the day, racism is alive and well.
00:44:00 --> 00:44:07 And there's so many parts of like racism and that we don't see,
00:44:07 --> 00:44:14 but still affects us deeply, like education, financially, health wise.
00:44:14 --> 00:44:20 First of all, we talk about housing, you know, discrimination.
00:44:21 --> 00:44:25 We talk about black mothers going to the hospital, you know,
00:44:25 --> 00:44:26 the treatment they receive.
00:44:26 --> 00:44:30 We talk to them about some of the schools in certain neighborhoods that,
00:44:30 --> 00:44:32 you know, aren't receiving the funding.
00:44:34 --> 00:44:37 Let's not even talk about crime, brutality, the legal system.
00:44:38 --> 00:44:44 So, I mean, I think, you know, all those things, you know, even though I think
00:44:44 --> 00:44:49 we've made great progress, but some of that may have just been because of our own.
00:44:49 --> 00:44:54 But, I mean, I still think there's a there's a lot holding us back.
00:44:54 --> 00:44:58 And I'm curious, because one of the things I do think about often is they say,
00:44:58 --> 00:45:05 and I forget the time frame, whether it's 50 or 100 years, but America will be multicultural.
00:45:05 --> 00:45:10 You know, white will be kind of overtaken by, you know, just, you know,
00:45:11 --> 00:45:16 people mixing that America is going to be so multicultural that,
00:45:16 --> 00:45:22 you know, we won't, you know, it may not be easy to tell who's who or who's from where.
00:45:23 --> 00:45:25 Well, that's true. That is true.
00:45:27 --> 00:45:32 And is that a win for the other folks or is that a loss for us?
00:45:34 --> 00:45:37 It's definitely not a win for the other folks because you already know they're
00:45:37 --> 00:45:40 trying hard to preserve that whiteness.
00:45:42 --> 00:45:46 But I mean, I can't, you know, I don't know if it would be a win for us or not. Yeah.
00:45:48 --> 00:45:52 Because especially if it's done in a way that,
00:45:53 --> 00:45:56 know what's going on. You know what I mean? Yeah.
00:45:57 --> 00:46:03 I was looking at this statement here. It says, the efforts to censor what children
00:46:03 --> 00:46:09 are taught about their history and the truth of race in America are about,
00:46:10 --> 00:46:13 suppressing the truth because if they learn it,
00:46:13 --> 00:46:15 their minds will be changed.
00:46:16 --> 00:46:20 They will view the world through different eyes and they will make decisions
00:46:20 --> 00:46:24 that are different than the ones their parents make.
00:46:25 --> 00:46:31 Since I look at all the money and all the efforts that are being spent to suppress this information,
00:46:32 --> 00:46:39 somebody out there is terrified of what will happen if this information is widespread
00:46:39 --> 00:46:41 throughout the country.
00:46:41 --> 00:46:48 So, you know, we know there's, well, when you think about everything that the
00:46:48 --> 00:46:53 president has done, too sorry I had to suppress or whitewash and everything.
00:46:54 --> 00:47:02 But then we have a weekend like we just had where it didn't feel like a typical July 4th.
00:47:03 --> 00:47:07 It felt like people were really concerned and mad. You know what I mean?
00:47:08 --> 00:47:14 Because of the backdrop. And if this keeps going on, especially,
00:47:14 --> 00:47:19 and it wasn't so much about the July 4th, it was much about the 250 years,
00:47:20 --> 00:47:25 we know what came along with that 250 years and the fact they keep trying to
00:47:25 --> 00:47:30 suppress it is not going to work too good too much longer,
00:47:31 --> 00:47:37 and you know when i was looking for things to talk about for this show all this
00:47:37 --> 00:47:42 stuff just kept popping up in my face because it was all It was in my face the whole weekend.
00:47:44 --> 00:47:46 We have to do all we can,
00:47:48 --> 00:47:56 to maintain who we are. And this country was really built on our backs, not theirs.
00:47:58 --> 00:48:03 Because they had done any of the stuff that they eventually claimed they did,
00:48:04 --> 00:48:06 without us being there. Nope.
00:48:07 --> 00:48:10 No way. No way. So.
00:48:12 --> 00:48:16 What's your thoughts? Yeah, I mean, I agree.
00:48:17 --> 00:48:24 Yeah, I mean, it's deep. I mean, maybe because I'm older, and maybe I'm looking
00:48:24 --> 00:48:27 into this a little deeper because I've been here longer.
00:48:28 --> 00:48:31 But I was kind of pissed off this weekend about a lot of stuff.
00:48:32 --> 00:48:38 Were you? Yeah, yeah, because, you know, and especially when I saw that picture
00:48:38 --> 00:48:43 of the young lady that we talked about on, you know, and they had all those
00:48:43 --> 00:48:46 people with the mask who marched, you know, doing the thing.
00:48:47 --> 00:48:49 And she's surrounded by these people.
00:48:51 --> 00:48:58 It was like the nightmare of Rosa Parks, you know, like a parallel universe of her, you know? Right.
00:49:00 --> 00:49:04 It was a lot of weird symbolism stuff going on over the weekend.
00:49:05 --> 00:49:10 So even with the separate events that were going on, you know,
00:49:10 --> 00:49:12 some of those events was for them.
00:49:12 --> 00:49:15 None of them, it wasn't for us, but for them.
00:49:16 --> 00:49:18 And then we had our events. Right.
00:49:20 --> 00:49:24 So it's interesting. You know, it's interesting. I'm going to leave that right there.
00:49:25 --> 00:49:27 That's what I'm going to do. I'm going to leave it right there.
00:49:28 --> 00:49:32 But anyway we're going to move on to your go ahead what you got to say yeah
00:49:32 --> 00:49:36 so Dave the story that I had was regarding,
00:49:36 --> 00:49:46 Sunny Houston I guess from she's one of the the host of The View and she said
00:49:46 --> 00:49:49 something recently that has a lot of people feeling a certain way,
00:49:50 --> 00:49:55 so she basically said that And even though she may not,
00:49:56 --> 00:50:01 you know, necessarily appear, she she claims black heritage,
00:50:01 --> 00:50:03 which, you know, nobody debates it.
00:50:04 --> 00:50:08 But she said that Rachel. Go ahead.
00:50:08 --> 00:50:14 She says that she feels unsafe when she goes through neighborhoods that have
00:50:14 --> 00:50:19 a high concentration of American flags. Yeah.
00:50:21 --> 00:50:24 And so what she's saying is, as a black person,
00:50:25 --> 00:50:32 being around people who are who claim to be very patriotic, they're usually
00:50:33 --> 00:50:36 right wing, usually MAGA,
00:50:36 --> 00:50:44 usually have some hints of, you know, racism or or at least that's the connotation
00:50:44 --> 00:50:48 that she gets from seeing a high concentration of flags.
00:50:49 --> 00:50:54 And you know of course the usual split a lot of the black people definitely
00:50:54 --> 00:50:57 understand like she didn't have even have to explain herself,
00:50:58 --> 00:51:01 you know a lot of the non-black people are saying well you don't like america
00:51:01 --> 00:51:07 get out why can't i have a flag you know it's kind of like that that old back and forth,
00:51:08 --> 00:51:13 and you know dave and i mean i can't lie i guess i agree with it i'm one of
00:51:13 --> 00:51:16 the black people but maybe about.
00:51:17 --> 00:51:23 10 years ago, maybe 15 years ago, 4th of July or Memorial Day or Labor Day,
00:51:24 --> 00:51:29 I was on my way to a like a picnic or something, you know, cookout picnic, whatever.
00:51:30 --> 00:51:36 And I wanted something, you know, I was looking for like a new t-shirt to wear.
00:51:36 --> 00:51:42 I went in the store and I was looking for some type of like USA t-shirt,
00:51:42 --> 00:51:44 you know, just something red, white and blue flag.
00:51:45 --> 00:51:49 And I bought it, you know, wore it to the, you know, wherever I went to cook
00:51:49 --> 00:51:51 out, whatever it was, barbecue.
00:51:52 --> 00:51:57 Dave, you would not catch me. And I mean, it's a shame to say you would not
00:51:57 --> 00:52:01 catch me wearing a USA shirt, a flag shirt.
00:52:02 --> 00:52:07 I love America. You know, it's so it's so weird because now that'd be one of
00:52:07 --> 00:52:13 the last things I'd probably ever do. And it's just funny how times change when,
00:52:13 --> 00:52:17 and maybe it's just, you know, educational growth.
00:52:18 --> 00:52:21 But Dave, you would not catch me wearing a USA t-shirt around here.
00:52:22 --> 00:52:27 Yeah. In fact, Dave, if I popped up on a video call and I'm asking you to borrow
00:52:27 --> 00:52:34 some money and you see me in a USA t-shirt, just know I'm being held hostage, okay?
00:52:34 --> 00:52:41 Like, just know something is wrong yeah i know i mean i'm,
00:52:42 --> 00:52:46 i i know guys who were who fought in the military that will refuse us to,
00:52:47 --> 00:52:54 to pledge allegiance they uh they refuse to uh sing the star spangled banner
00:52:54 --> 00:52:59 they don't believe in it you know because the way they were treated especially when they came home,
00:52:59 --> 00:53:03 you know that was the worst part of they said that they they could deal with
00:53:03 --> 00:53:08 the war stuff you even though there was some stuff that they don't want to talk about or whatever.
00:53:09 --> 00:53:12 Some of them had PTSD over whatever, but they said it was the way they were
00:53:12 --> 00:53:13 treated when they came on.
00:53:14 --> 00:53:19 This is supposed to be their home. Land of Opportunity, Home of the Free.
00:53:20 --> 00:53:22 Yeah. Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. Yeah.
00:53:22 --> 00:53:30 You know, Jill Scott did a version of, recently, she did her own version of
00:53:30 --> 00:53:31 The Star Spangled Banner.
00:53:32 --> 00:53:36 I don't know if you heard this or seen the song, but it was very deep what she did.
00:53:36 --> 00:53:40 She talked about being slaves and so forth.
00:53:43 --> 00:53:46 Same music and everything. she just changed the word you know,
00:53:47 --> 00:53:54 and you know the last line was it says home of the home of the free in the land
00:53:54 --> 00:54:02 of the I mean in the land of the free home of the brave she said home of the slaves.
00:54:03 --> 00:54:09 Yeah that's how she finished the song you know so and she sang it with so much
00:54:09 --> 00:54:13 passion and so much conviction I was like that should be the national anthem
00:54:13 --> 00:54:18 for us right now you know so you know but it's you know,
00:54:19 --> 00:54:23 and even even well even it's funny now i said all i had to say about those stories
00:54:23 --> 00:54:25 that i brought up but even your
00:54:25 --> 00:54:29 story kind of folds into that you know you know but that just tells you,
00:54:30 --> 00:54:34 like i said before you started talking about this story is that there was there
00:54:34 --> 00:54:41 was this this whole thing with this 250 year time with the fourth of july But it really,
00:54:43 --> 00:54:49 if you think about it, it really kind of pissed you off because it didn't make
00:54:49 --> 00:54:52 you feel better about any of the stuff that was going on.
00:54:52 --> 00:54:57 And then you hear something simple as 41 of the, like I said earlier,
00:54:57 --> 00:55:02 41 of the people that signed the Declaration of Independence all had slaves
00:55:02 --> 00:55:05 at the time. They signed the Declaration of Independence.
00:55:06 --> 00:55:10 Mr. Cesar Rondy, who we had a statue in Rondy Square forever.
00:55:10 --> 00:55:12 Still called Rondy Square.
00:55:13 --> 00:55:20 You know, so, so, yeah, yeah. This weekend didn't help me at all.
00:55:21 --> 00:55:25 Dave, you know, I even had to look at some people funny who,
00:55:25 --> 00:55:30 people who were participating in 250 events. Yeah, yeah.
00:55:31 --> 00:55:34 I mean, at the end of the day, you got to do what you got to do.
00:55:34 --> 00:55:37 But still, you know, people know this. It's money.
00:55:39 --> 00:55:43 I get it. I mean, I turned on one of the shows and I saw Cool in the Gang was
00:55:43 --> 00:55:48 performing. I was like, man, I ain't seen them on TV in forever. I was like, you know.
00:55:48 --> 00:55:51 But I don't know whose event that was that they were performing at.
00:55:51 --> 00:55:57 It was one of those 150-year celebrations. I don't know if that was the one
00:55:57 --> 00:56:00 that Trump did or whatever. They were in D.C. though.
00:56:01 --> 00:56:06 I just assumed it was that one. So, you know what? It was that one.
00:56:07 --> 00:56:11 Because they did say Kool and the Gang was supposed to participate at that one.
00:56:11 --> 00:56:12 That's what it was, yeah.
00:56:13 --> 00:56:17 So, I don't know. I don't know. That's why I looked. I was glad to see what
00:56:17 --> 00:56:23 I saw on Saturday night at that other event. Because that was something to see.
00:56:23 --> 00:56:27 You know, that represented us way better than anything else out there. So,
00:56:29 --> 00:56:30 I tell you.
00:56:32 --> 00:56:34 Move on to Dave's Corner. I'm mad now.
00:56:38 --> 00:56:42 This is one of them shows that just, you know, and I know I got a lot of people,
00:56:42 --> 00:56:46 who have militant attitude friends out there, you know, I'm sure they're all
00:56:46 --> 00:56:50 like yeah, yeah, yeah, Dave that's right, you know, you're right,
00:56:50 --> 00:56:52 I was pissed off too, you know, so
00:56:53 --> 00:56:56 but anyway, we'll lighten it up a little bit here on Dave's Corner,
00:56:56 --> 00:56:58 be it Leonard's favorite part of the show.
00:57:00 --> 00:57:04 Well, maybe it won't lighten up. I didn't think of it. I hadn't thought about that.
00:57:05 --> 00:57:10 So we're going to do, today I'm going to ask five trivia questions to you later.
00:57:11 --> 00:57:14 And, you know, all having to do with being black.
00:57:15 --> 00:57:22 You know, not, you know, black history and so forth. Let's see where you are on this. All right.
00:57:23 --> 00:57:27 Let's go. It's multiple choice, so you got a chance to get it.
00:57:27 --> 00:57:31 You know, you got a 50-50 chance of being able to get it right there.
00:57:32 --> 00:57:36 Who became the first black justice appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court?
00:57:36 --> 00:57:40 Thurgood Marshall. Okay, I don't need to give you the choices.
00:57:41 --> 00:57:43 You better know that without me giving you the choices.
00:57:45 --> 00:57:53 Number two, which black inventor is credited with improving the traffic signal,
00:57:53 --> 00:57:57 and inventing the gas mask? You want the choices?
00:57:58 --> 00:58:02 Yes, because the—hold on, hold on, hold on. Let me think. So you're going to
00:58:02 --> 00:58:04 try to do this without the choice. Okay.
00:58:05 --> 00:58:09 All right. Go ahead and give me. Oh, man. All right. Give me the choice.
00:58:09 --> 00:58:11 I mean, I know I'm going to get it right, but go ahead, Dave.
00:58:12 --> 00:58:20 George Washington Carver is A, B, Garrett Morgan. I guess I said Garrett Morris. B.
00:58:21 --> 00:58:22 Answer is B. Thank you.
00:58:23 --> 00:58:27 Okay. So you don't want to hear the other ones? No. Okay.
00:58:29 --> 00:58:34 Okay. B is correct. I'm going to go ahead and get more of it.

00:58:41 --> 00:58:45 during World War II as fighter pilots? Tuskegee Airmen.
00:58:46 --> 00:58:53 Okay. All right. Leonard's coming out on fire, you know? He better know these.
00:58:56 --> 00:59:02 Who became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress in 1968? Shirley Chisholm.
00:59:03 --> 00:59:06 Is that your final answer? It is my final answer. Okay, he said that with his
00:59:06 --> 00:59:08 hair on his chest. Okay, all right. Okay, all right.
00:59:11 --> 00:59:16 Okay, let's see if he goes five for five, folks. Which black American became
00:59:16 --> 00:59:21 the first person to earn a PhD from Harvard University?
00:59:21 --> 00:59:23 I think I got him on this one. Okay.
00:59:24 --> 00:59:25 W.E.B. Du Bois.
00:59:26 --> 00:59:28 Wow, okay, all right.
00:59:31 --> 00:59:36 I was hoping let me give you the choices, But you stepped out on faith on that one. Okay.
00:59:37 --> 00:59:42 And that wasn't. All right, Dave. So now that we're courtesy of the Culture
00:59:42 --> 00:59:45 Check app. Oh, here we go.
00:59:46 --> 00:59:50 By the way, Leonard's new app, people. The Culture Check. Okay.
00:59:51 --> 00:59:54 I didn't get those from the Culture Check, by the way. So I'm just letting you know.

01:00:01 --> 01:00:06 Well, hold on. because I'm glad to tell you the answers afterwards just in case
01:00:06 --> 01:00:11 there's any of them that I don't know because, you know, there's 100 questions,
01:00:11 --> 01:00:13 but I'm going to give you five. Are you ready?
