00:01:34 --> 00:01:38 DelawareBlack.com Black media expert, all-around good guy How goes it, Dave?
00:01:39 --> 00:01:45 Man, I can't call it I guess the spring is finally here, I guess So, yeah, definitely.
00:01:46 --> 00:01:50 Yeah, definitely. It looked like it's hitting in a big way this weekend.
00:01:50 --> 00:01:53 And remember a couple of weeks ago, we were talking about the pollen,
00:01:53 --> 00:01:55 no pollen. Now, all of a sudden, the pollen's out there now.
00:01:55 --> 00:01:58 Oh, yeah. Well, you know, it's funny. I noticed it on my car today.
00:01:58 --> 00:02:01 But the other thing I noticed, too, and I don't know if you noticed it as well.
00:02:02 --> 00:02:05 There are a lot of people who seem like they were not dressed for the weather today.
00:02:05 --> 00:02:12 And I only say, I was riding around 3 p.m. I looked at my dash temperature, it said 87 degrees.
00:02:13 --> 00:02:17 There was a guy walking with a sweatshirt. He got a hoodie, you know,
00:02:17 --> 00:02:19 hood over his head. I'm just like, oh, my goodness.
00:02:20 --> 00:02:24 Then I stopped somewhere else. There was someone jogging here,
00:02:25 --> 00:02:30 you know, like long pants, not a hoodie, but a sweatshirt. And I'm like, man, okay. Yeah.
00:02:30 --> 00:02:35 So, well, I wish I could say that I saw some people not dress for the weather.
00:02:36 --> 00:02:38 Unfortunately, I saw some people dress for the weather. Oh, yeah.
00:02:40 --> 00:02:43 What all you saw? You saw the shorts, t-shirts? Yeah, yeah.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:48 You know, people are just ready. You know, when the weather gets warm,
00:02:48 --> 00:02:52 they ready to break out their warm weather clothes. I'm going to put it that way, you know.
00:02:52 --> 00:02:56 So, you know, where I work, I see it all. So, you know, so.
00:02:57 --> 00:03:02 But what are you going to say? Are you going to say something else? No, I mean, just so I...
00:03:03 --> 00:03:08 Well, I was going to say outside the city, but you outside the city, too. But I don't know.
00:03:08 --> 00:03:12 Just one of them weird days out here. Yeah. OK. All right.
00:03:13 --> 00:03:19 Yeah. So you posted some things about your kids, man. Look like they both doing good.
00:03:19 --> 00:03:21 Oh, yeah. Well, you know, it's funny.
00:03:22 --> 00:03:25 Both of those I probably had about a week ago.
00:03:25 --> 00:03:28 And you know how you just, you know, you just don't feel like posting or nothing
00:03:28 --> 00:03:33 on social media. But today I was like, let me hurry up and post them before,
00:03:33 --> 00:03:38 you know, they're not even relevant anymore. So I just went ahead and kind of threw them up there.
00:03:38 --> 00:03:41 Yeah. OK, well, that's good. That's good.
00:03:42 --> 00:03:46 Well, it's always good to be proud of the kids, man. So, you know, they're getting good.
00:03:46 --> 00:03:49 They're growing up quick on you, man. Yeah, they're growing up quick on you.
00:03:49 --> 00:03:51 And you know what I mean? It was so surprising.
00:03:51 --> 00:03:53 In high school, I was a terrible student.
00:03:54 --> 00:03:59 Like, I was a terrible student. So, you know, you know, it's almost like a full
00:03:59 --> 00:04:02 circle moment when you kind of see your kids like excel in school,
00:04:03 --> 00:04:07 you know, so I'm I'm definitely proud of them.
00:04:08 --> 00:04:12 What's the old what's the old action? You always want your kids to do better than you.
00:04:12 --> 00:04:16 Oh, yeah, definitely. So, I mean, I will say I feel like they got their athletic
00:04:16 --> 00:04:21 abilities from me and they you know, they they probably got the education from the other.
00:04:21 --> 00:04:26 Oh, OK. You mean their mother? Is that what you mean? Okay. All right. There you go. Okay.
00:04:28 --> 00:04:34 All right. So, well, speaking of athletic, I mean, we might well go ahead and
00:04:34 --> 00:04:39 get into the show because we got two of the best that ever did it here in Delaware on the show.
00:04:39 --> 00:04:44 And they happen to be part of my old alma mater, P.S. DuPont.
00:04:44 --> 00:04:49 Dynamiter. So, you know, why don't you tell them, why don't you tell everybody who we got on?
00:04:49 --> 00:04:53 Yep. So Dave, the first guest we have is Robin Johnson.
00:04:53 --> 00:04:57 Robin discovered her passion for basketball in elementary school and quickly
00:04:57 --> 00:05:02 developed into a standout player going on to star at P.S. DuPont High School.
00:05:03 --> 00:05:08 At the Guard, she became one of Delaware's top early pioneers in girls basketball,
00:05:08 --> 00:05:14 leading the state in scoring, earning multiple MVP honors during her high school career.
00:05:15 --> 00:05:19 At a time when girls' basketball statistics were just beginning to be recorded,
00:05:20 --> 00:05:26 Johnson made history by finishing her career with 746 total points.
00:05:27 --> 00:05:30 At that point, it was the highest recorded total in Delaware.
00:05:31 --> 00:05:36 She also earned All-State recognition and was selected to multiple All-Star teams.
00:05:36 --> 00:05:41 Her dedication to the game carried beyond high school, highlighted by her participation
00:05:41 --> 00:05:49 in the 1996 WNBA New York Liberty tryouts, competing for a roster spot of alone top talent.
00:05:49 --> 00:05:56 She gained valuable experience at the professional level and remains proud of her journey,
00:05:57 --> 00:06:05 including receiving WNBA gear that she still holds on today as a symbol of that moment.
00:06:05 --> 00:06:09 And then second, we have Marvin Bell.
00:06:09 --> 00:06:16 Marvin began his basketball journey at the Brown Boys and Girls Club and Price's
00:06:16 --> 00:06:22 Run Park in the 1960s, developing into a standout athlete at P.S.
00:06:22 --> 00:06:28 DuPont High School. There he earned first team all conference in the 1970 and 71.
00:06:29 --> 00:06:36 He led the conference in scoring with 22.6 points per game and was named first
00:06:36 --> 00:06:40 team all state and defensive player of the year in 1971.
00:06:40 --> 00:06:47 He also received all Middle Atlantic States honors and was recognized as the
00:06:47 --> 00:06:54 Wilmington Old Timers Athletic Association and Newcastle County Athlete of the Year.
00:06:55 --> 00:06:58 In addition to basketball, Bell was a member of P.S.
00:06:58 --> 00:07:03 DuPont's 1971 cross-country state championship team.
00:07:03 --> 00:07:09 He also went on to play at Delaware State University before transferring to
00:07:09 --> 00:07:11 Baltimore City Community College,
00:07:11 --> 00:07:20 where he became Region 19 JUCO MVP and earned first-team All-Maryland JUCO honors.
00:07:20 --> 00:07:25 Bell later played at the Wilmington College, leading the team in scoring during
00:07:25 --> 00:07:34 his two seasons, a two-time All-Armed Forces first-team selection.
00:07:35 --> 00:07:41 He served 22 years in the military before transitioning into a 16-year career
00:07:41 --> 00:07:47 as a sheriff deputy and law enforcement instructor in El Paso, Texas. this.
00:07:47 --> 00:07:52 So without further ado, Robin, Marvin, I'd like to welcome you all to the show.
00:07:53 --> 00:07:56 Thanks for having me. Welcome. Well, man, I'm sitting there listening to both
00:07:56 --> 00:07:58 these files. I'm like, wow, okay.
00:07:59 --> 00:08:02 Nice to be here. Yeah, yeah. That's great. That's great.
00:08:03 --> 00:08:06 Well, Leonard, I'll let you start with this. Sure. So, you know,
00:08:06 --> 00:08:11 of course, reading all those honors was starting to get me a little tongue twisted.
00:08:12 --> 00:08:16 But, you know, Robin, I'll kind of start with you. So I know it says that you
00:08:16 --> 00:08:19 kind of developed your passion for basketball in elementary school.
00:08:20 --> 00:08:24 Can you kind of, you know, tell us how that passion started?
00:08:25 --> 00:08:29 Well, that passion started like when I was in the third grade.
00:08:30 --> 00:08:34 And at that time, we were just playing dodgeball in the gym.
00:08:34 --> 00:08:39 But for some reason, I would always take the dodgeball and throw up towards
00:08:39 --> 00:08:44 the hoop, you know, and bouncing and dribbling.
00:08:44 --> 00:08:47 And they was telling me that I was playing the wrong sport.
00:08:47 --> 00:08:53 So I asked them, which sport did I need to be playing to shoot the hoop?
00:08:53 --> 00:08:54 And then that's when they said basketball.
00:08:55 --> 00:09:02 So I started, you know, I started like putting my focus on putting the ball in the hoop.
00:09:03 --> 00:09:06 Gotcha. And I guess like what type of support did you have?
00:09:06 --> 00:09:10 So, I mean, I know, you know, I feel like there's a difference between kids
00:09:10 --> 00:09:14 who will kind of, you know, play basketball in gym and, you know,
00:09:14 --> 00:09:19 kind of in the neighborhood versus, you know, those who kind of take it to the
00:09:19 --> 00:09:21 next level like yourself.
00:09:21 --> 00:09:26 So what like what do you think that made you different than the people who would
00:09:26 --> 00:09:27 just kind of shoot around?
00:09:28 --> 00:09:32 Well, once I started, like I said, wanting to throw the ball in the hoop down
00:09:32 --> 00:09:38 at George Gray, living in 26th Street Projects, 2-6, right?
00:09:39 --> 00:09:45 Our section of the project was the only part of the project that had a single
00:09:45 --> 00:09:50 double realm basketball court there. So I would come out the front door and
00:09:50 --> 00:09:53 within 25 feet of me was the basketball course.
00:09:53 --> 00:09:56 So I started practicing there.
00:09:56 --> 00:10:00 I started shooting up there every day. Every day I would start shooting up.
00:10:00 --> 00:10:06 And, you know, just having coaches and people mentor me and,
00:10:06 --> 00:10:13 you know, show me, you know, some of the best ways to shoot the basketball and all that kind of stuff.
00:10:13 --> 00:10:20 And I got good enough to go down the street to the park another hundred feet down the street and,
00:10:21 --> 00:10:24 play with the guys okay and and
00:10:24 --> 00:10:27 then i guess how how did you fare when
00:10:27 --> 00:10:30 you were playing with the guys like i'm sure you're you're able
00:10:30 --> 00:10:34 to test out your skills was there a point where you were kind of on the same
00:10:34 --> 00:10:39 level of what they were doing it was challenging at first you know i got bumped
00:10:39 --> 00:10:46 around a lot you know i got into a lot of little scuffles because i didn't understand
00:10:46 --> 00:10:49 you know the roughness of basketball,
00:10:49 --> 00:10:51 how it was a contact sports.
00:10:51 --> 00:10:53 And I thought that I was being picked on.
00:10:53 --> 00:11:00 And, you know, so I started, you know, going to my coaches and other people
00:11:00 --> 00:11:04 and asked them for them to teach me some skills.
00:11:05 --> 00:11:11 As a matter of fact, there's a book that was written by a young man called Dwayne
00:11:11 --> 00:11:12 Brown. He lives in Atlanta.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:16 The book's called, the name is common but
00:11:16 --> 00:11:20 the results is different and he mentioned he
00:11:20 --> 00:11:24 mentions me on page 17 about playing
00:11:24 --> 00:11:31 basketball and how if girls could try out for varsity basketball team he believed
00:11:31 --> 00:11:37 that I would have made the team and would have gotten reasonable amount of playing
00:11:37 --> 00:11:40 time he He watched me get that good, and he was younger than I was.
00:11:42 --> 00:11:46 Gotcha. Okay. And then, so, I mean, of course, for the high school career,
00:11:46 --> 00:11:49 you know, said you finished with 746 points.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:53 That was the highest point total in the state at the time.
00:11:54 --> 00:11:57 What was your senior year like playing at P.S. DuPont?
00:11:58 --> 00:12:02 My senior year was fun. You know, I had a lot of fun, you know,
00:12:02 --> 00:12:06 because I averaged 24, 26 points a game.
00:12:07 --> 00:12:12 And for the most part, that meant I scored probably about 40,
00:12:12 --> 00:12:15 50, 60. I think my highest game was 80-something.
00:12:16 --> 00:12:19 Oh, what? 80 points in a game? In one game.
00:12:19 --> 00:12:26 Yeah, in one game, yes. You know, and so I, you know, I just enjoyed it.
00:12:26 --> 00:12:29 I had fun with basketball. I loved basketball.
00:12:29 --> 00:12:39 It was my first love affair. You know what I mean? And so that was the thing.
00:12:42 --> 00:12:45 Yeah, that was the thing that took me all the way. I'm sorry,
00:12:46 --> 00:12:47 guys. No, no, you're fine.
00:12:48 --> 00:12:54 Yeah, go ahead. All right. Yeah, so, yeah, so that was the thing that kind of,
00:12:54 --> 00:12:57 you know, gave me, you know, playing with the boys.
00:12:57 --> 00:13:02 I always wanted to play Washington basketball on the boys' team in P.S.,
00:13:02 --> 00:13:04 but they would never allow me to.
00:13:04 --> 00:13:09 So I had to play with, you know, the girls, and I just tried to have fun with
00:13:09 --> 00:13:12 it, you know. I just try to have fun with it. Gotcha.
00:13:13 --> 00:13:19 And so after high school, I know via the bio, I kind of spoke about the WNBA.
00:13:20 --> 00:13:25 Can you kind of explain how you got to that point and what that experience was like?
00:13:26 --> 00:13:30 Yes. I had, um, from high school,
00:13:30 --> 00:13:33 you know, I wasn't not too good of a
00:13:33 --> 00:13:36 kid I was I was hungry I was bad I remember
00:13:36 --> 00:13:40 having the scouts from Maculata
00:13:40 --> 00:13:43 and UCLA in my mom's front room in
00:13:43 --> 00:13:51 the project but I was not I lost a passion for basketball because I couldn't
00:13:51 --> 00:13:57 play with the guys and don't that's how you know playing with girls was like
00:13:57 --> 00:14:02 it was too easy for me You know, I got tired and then we,
00:14:02 --> 00:14:06 you know, it was like I was putting in all the work and you know what I mean?
00:14:06 --> 00:14:11 So I said, you know, I want to play with the boys. I want to go to the NBA.
00:14:11 --> 00:14:17 I watch people like Tan Stansbury and AJ English, you know, you know,
00:14:17 --> 00:14:25 and just got to watch me play, you know, and so, you know, excuse me for that, you know.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:33 I had lost the passion. And in 1996, when the WNBA got started,
00:14:33 --> 00:14:37 I was 36 years old at that time, living in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
00:14:37 --> 00:14:39 I just wanted experience.
00:14:40 --> 00:14:44 So I went out. I seek out. I had some people.
00:14:44 --> 00:14:48 You know, I trained a little bit, practiced a little bit. But at 36.
00:14:49 --> 00:14:51 That's like retirement. But I just wanted the experience.
00:14:52 --> 00:14:57 So I had some people. You know, New York was the only team that actually charged
00:14:57 --> 00:15:01 200-something dollars for tryouts. All the other teams was free.
00:15:01 --> 00:15:07 And that was because probably, you know, New York was explosive with their advertising.
00:15:07 --> 00:15:12 Radio, TV, you know what I mean? So they needed to get some of that money back. I understood.
00:15:12 --> 00:15:18 So I went and tried out and got there. And it was like 200 or 300 of us from
00:15:18 --> 00:15:24 all over the world tried out. and come to find out all that they needed at that
00:15:24 --> 00:15:26 time was a backup center for Rebecca Lobo.
00:15:27 --> 00:15:31 So, you know, it was, you know, a lot of us was disappointed.
00:15:31 --> 00:15:34 I mean, Cheryl Swoots was there.
00:15:34 --> 00:15:40 Tina, what's her name? Tina Thompson. Tina Thompson. Yeah, she was there.
00:15:40 --> 00:15:44 Yeah, it was a couple other females there that I met, you know,
00:15:44 --> 00:15:47 along the way, you know, and I thank God for the experience and,
00:15:47 --> 00:15:50 you know, I used to always be,
00:15:50 --> 00:15:54 very very very disappointed because basketball was
00:15:54 --> 00:15:57 my passion it was the love of my life and for
00:15:57 --> 00:16:01 me not to be able to play professionally I kind
00:16:01 --> 00:16:08 of gave up on it and in in in terms I kind of gave up on me because maybe God
00:16:08 --> 00:16:12 said Robin I'm gonna give you a good skill but you're going to be before your
00:16:12 --> 00:16:20 time but I want you to take this very skill and maybe coach and I wouldn't even do that because.
00:16:21 --> 00:16:28 You know, I wanted to play professionally. So I'm so grateful that,
00:16:28 --> 00:16:33 you know, Delaware seemed fit to nominate me for,
00:16:33 --> 00:16:37 you know, in the Delaware Hall of Fame because, you know,
00:16:37 --> 00:16:42 to not go to college and to not play professionally, you know,
00:16:42 --> 00:16:46 but to make it to the Hall of Fame is amazing.
00:16:46 --> 00:16:49 Right. It's amazing. I definitely agree.
00:16:52 --> 00:16:55 Tell me this So how did you feel When
00:16:55 --> 00:16:58 you found out you were nominated Or you know like how did that
00:16:58 --> 00:17:02 come about Did someone call you did they email you Yeah I
00:17:02 --> 00:17:07 was overwhelmed Mark Seed was called I was overwhelmed you know Because again
00:17:07 --> 00:17:14 I was Disappointed because I played so Hard all my life with guys Down at Price's
00:17:14 --> 00:17:18 Park And I thought That they would recognize me,
00:17:19 --> 00:17:22 by giving me a basketball court like they did some other people.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:25 But unfortunately, that didn't happen either.
00:17:26 --> 00:17:29 So, you know, I've had a lot of disappointments with basketball.
00:17:29 --> 00:17:33 You know, I even played a half a year for the Storming Classic.
00:17:34 --> 00:17:38 But, you know, unfortunately, I didn't get a jacket. You know what I mean?
00:17:38 --> 00:17:43 Maybe, you know, people didn't remember that I played or whatever the case may have been.
00:17:43 --> 00:17:47 You know what I mean? So I've had some disappointments where it came to basketball.
00:17:48 --> 00:17:52 You know what I mean? but I was just talking to a friend of mine's who won the
00:17:52 --> 00:17:57 girls basketball state champ, Ty, Ty, Ty Taylor.
00:17:57 --> 00:18:03 And we were talking about if he can get JV, a JV squad for the girls,
00:18:03 --> 00:18:06 he was going to bring me on. And he asked me if I would be interested in.
00:18:07 --> 00:18:12 Coaching, doing some coaching, assisting, coaching, or just even sitting on
00:18:12 --> 00:18:15 the bench and giving some good advice, you know? And I would love that.
00:18:15 --> 00:18:16 You know what I'm saying?
00:18:16 --> 00:18:21 I really would. I wish that I could have took basketball a little further for me. Right.
00:18:22 --> 00:18:28 You know, that was the plan. And Lord knows, the guys in Delaware will say, she played.
00:18:29 --> 00:18:31 Hey, we had to play.
00:18:31 --> 00:18:36 She would do some amazing stuff on us, you know? Right.
00:18:37 --> 00:18:40 If you be for your time, you be for your time. You know what I mean?
00:18:40 --> 00:18:42 Like I said, I was before my time.
00:18:43 --> 00:18:45 Gotcha. And, you know, I definitely understand that. And, you know,
00:18:45 --> 00:18:49 it's funny because that was going to be my next question when you talked about the coaching.
00:18:49 --> 00:18:53 Because, you know, with all your experience, I'm sure you probably have a very
00:18:53 --> 00:18:55 particular eye for basketball.
00:18:56 --> 00:19:00 That, you know, there's a lot of wisdom that you'd be able to get to these young
00:19:00 --> 00:19:03 girls who are, you know, ninth, tenth grade.
00:19:04 --> 00:19:08 Because I mean, technically you are a Delaware legend, you know?
00:19:09 --> 00:19:13 So, and, and then kind of going back to the second part and,
00:19:13 --> 00:19:17 you know, I, I understand what you're saying when you say like ahead of your time and,
00:19:18 --> 00:19:21 you know, unfortunately for some of us, that's just the way the cookie crumbles,
00:19:21 --> 00:19:29 but I'm sure that you opened up the door, you know, you provided motivation to a lot of girls,
00:19:29 --> 00:19:35 especially black girls that, you know, probably saw you play that, you know, you know,
00:19:35 --> 00:19:39 almost like what they say, like Malcolm walks so we can run,
00:19:39 --> 00:19:43 you know, it's almost like Robin, you know, shot so, you know, we could score.
00:19:43 --> 00:19:46 So, you know, I'm sure.
00:19:46 --> 00:19:49 And, you know, I think it's hard in Delaware and just period,
00:19:49 --> 00:19:54 because a lot of the people that probably looked up to you, you probably never even knew about them.
00:19:54 --> 00:19:58 But I'm sure when you left, they were still mentioning your name the next year,
00:19:58 --> 00:20:00 the next year, probably the next year.
00:20:01 --> 00:20:04 So, but I do want to congratulate you on your honors.
00:20:05 --> 00:20:11 Thank you. Being nominated, you know, from one athlete, I wasn't a basketball
00:20:11 --> 00:20:14 player, but I love sports.
00:20:14 --> 00:20:20 And, you know, I think for anybody who is a, you know, a championship player
00:20:20 --> 00:20:24 like yourself, you know, I think you can always recognize the dedication,
00:20:25 --> 00:20:27 the work, the effort, the consistency,
00:20:28 --> 00:20:32 you know, all that that it takes to, you know, be a standout player like yourself.
00:20:33 --> 00:20:39 Absolutely. I have been working in the summer with Devlin and Dan Parks,
00:20:40 --> 00:20:45 which they started two years ago, a little basketball camp down Price's Park.
00:20:45 --> 00:20:48 So I've been volunteering with them each year since they started.
00:20:48 --> 00:20:51 I'm looking to do some coaching because I still shoot around.
00:20:52 --> 00:20:56 At 66, still active, very active.
00:20:57 --> 00:21:01 I don't run whole court. I shoot around.
00:21:04 --> 00:21:08 I ain't going to do all that. No, no, no. We ain't doing all that, right, Robin?
00:21:09 --> 00:21:14 No, absolutely not, man. Yeah. All right. All right.
00:21:14 --> 00:21:20 Since you did Robin, I'm going to go in and do Marvin. Is that all right? Yeah.
00:21:20 --> 00:21:26 Okay. All right. So, but let me say this a bit, because I was fortunate enough,
00:21:26 --> 00:21:29 Leonard, to witness a lot of what Robin talked about.
00:21:30 --> 00:21:34 You know, because, you know, we were in the same class. You know, we came up together,
00:21:35 --> 00:21:42 Robin is the best basketball player I've ever seen, as far as a woman is concerned.
00:21:42 --> 00:21:45 And she was better than a lot of guys. I ain't gonna lie, she was.
00:21:46 --> 00:21:54 She's probably the reason that we know about Val Whiting or Monique Foote or
00:21:54 --> 00:21:57 Elena Deledon, you know,
00:21:57 --> 00:22:02 because she was those people before those people ever came around.
00:22:04 --> 00:22:12 And so I got a chance to witness Price's Park was the hotbed of basketball for us coming up.
00:22:12 --> 00:22:16 And, you know, I saw her in the park almost every day, you know,
00:22:16 --> 00:22:19 so and, you know, I got to see her in school.
00:22:19 --> 00:22:24 So, I mean, I know I know what she did. So I want to say kudos to you, Robin.
00:22:24 --> 00:22:30 And congratulations on being inducted into the Afro-American Hall of Fame. OK, thank you.
00:22:31 --> 00:22:35 All right. All right. Mr. Marvin. How you doing, sir? All right.
00:22:35 --> 00:22:38 How you doing? How you doing? Don't worry. We didn't forget about you.
00:22:38 --> 00:22:42 We had to give the props to Robin. Now we're going to give you your props, okay?
00:22:43 --> 00:22:47 Congratulations, sir. Okay. Great, great. So,
00:22:48 --> 00:22:51 Now, talking about two different eras of dynamite is here.
00:22:51 --> 00:22:57 You know, you set the standard early, you know, and, you know,
00:22:57 --> 00:23:01 I actually saw you play a few times, you know, as a kid,
00:23:02 --> 00:23:06 you know, and I remember them teams you played on and they were great teams.
00:23:07 --> 00:23:11 They really were. PS had a nice little run back there in the early 70s.
00:23:11 --> 00:23:12 They really did, you know.
00:23:14 --> 00:23:18 So, first of all, congratulations on your induction.
00:23:18 --> 00:23:21 Thank you, thank you. And to the Afro-American Hall of Fame.
00:23:21 --> 00:23:27 And why don't you tell us about your humble start in basketball and so forth.
00:23:27 --> 00:23:29 Tell us how it began for you.
00:23:30 --> 00:23:35 Well, not too much different from Robin. Well, it wasn't about basketball.
00:23:35 --> 00:23:38 It's about where I came from. Okay.
00:23:38 --> 00:23:42 I was raised in East Lake Projects, what they call the bucket now.
00:23:43 --> 00:23:50 Yeah. And back in those days, if you was from the bucket, riverside, surrounding area,
00:23:51 --> 00:23:57 whatsoever, sports was the hotbed, along with Franklin's Run Park and Brown's
00:23:57 --> 00:23:59 Boys Club. That's all we had in the swimming pool.
00:24:00 --> 00:24:04 Every kid, everyone picked up some type of ball.
00:24:05 --> 00:24:10 It wasn't baseball, football, or ram track, or played anything.
00:24:10 --> 00:24:16 That's what we had. And then we had a bunch of mentors that surrounded that park.
00:24:17 --> 00:24:19 Some of the guys that's already inducted in the Hall of Fame,
00:24:19 --> 00:24:22 like I don't know, remember Gator Lewis? Yes.
00:24:23 --> 00:24:28 Major Harrison? Yes. Maurice Pritchard? Yes. Rock Hill?
00:24:28 --> 00:24:34 Yes. All those guys, you know, lived around the park. So we had great mentors back then.
00:24:35 --> 00:24:41 And man, Dave, I had to be the skinniest kid that ever played high school basketball.
00:24:42 --> 00:24:46 You weren't skinny, but you know, it's so funny. It's funny because y'all had
00:24:46 --> 00:24:49 a couple skinny guys on that team. Yeah, me and Porter Hill. I was late.
00:24:50 --> 00:24:54 They say I was 6'4", 153, but I think I was late less.
00:24:55 --> 00:25:01 But I learned the game and competitiveness and, you know, the spirit of not
00:25:01 --> 00:25:05 to lose everything sitting around Prices Brum Park, all my mentors.
00:25:05 --> 00:25:11 I was 15 years old, man. I was playing with grown men getting knocked down like
00:25:11 --> 00:25:17 Reggie Lacefield, or John Savage, those guys from the Blue Bombers. Right, right.
00:25:18 --> 00:25:23 Art Magic, Bob Diller, and, you know, Bernard Geisers, you know,
00:25:23 --> 00:25:25 all the legends. You're naming all the legends.
00:25:25 --> 00:25:29 Yeah. They wasn't, you know, they wasn't only great athletes,
00:25:29 --> 00:25:33 but they took care of the community back then, you know.
00:25:33 --> 00:25:36 And so we couldn't go wrong, you know.
00:25:37 --> 00:25:41 They stayed in the boys' club all day long, in the park in the summer,
00:25:41 --> 00:25:43 all day long, that's where it was.
00:25:44 --> 00:25:49 And back then, if anybody thought they were any good, they thought they had
00:25:49 --> 00:25:52 any game, Price is Run Park was the place to be.
00:25:52 --> 00:25:57 Matter of fact, if you lost that day, you could forget about it.
00:25:57 --> 00:26:00 You'd come back tomorrow and try again. That's true. That's true.
00:26:01 --> 00:26:06 That's true. That's true. And it was rough back then. It was rough.
00:26:06 --> 00:26:09 I remember those tournaments they used to have down there, man.
00:26:10 --> 00:26:15 There you go. And them guys would come, people would come from all over to play in those tournaments.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:20 Leonard, you know, it was really crazy, man. That park would be packed.
00:26:20 --> 00:26:26 You know, it was our version of the Rucker. Yeah, you know, so, you know.
00:26:27 --> 00:26:34 But tell me this, Marvin. You also developed love for track and everything as well.
00:26:34 --> 00:26:38 You know, you played, you were part of the track team and, you know,
00:26:38 --> 00:26:40 you had honors in track and field.
00:26:40 --> 00:26:43 You had honors of basketball you know
00:26:43 --> 00:26:45 like you said back then was a different day and time
00:26:45 --> 00:26:48 you know we always had some type
00:26:48 --> 00:26:54 of ball we were always running we were always doing something back then it was
00:26:54 --> 00:26:59 just a part of our lives kids don't do that anymore kids don't have that mentality
00:26:59 --> 00:27:06 anymore and you play more than one you play more than one sport all the time and then Man,
00:27:06 --> 00:27:08 I say, it breaks my heart when I come up to Wilmington.
00:27:08 --> 00:27:10 I always drive by 26th Street.
00:27:10 --> 00:27:13 I say, man, look at this big, beautiful park and nobody's in it.
00:27:13 --> 00:27:15 Nobody's at the park anymore.
00:27:16 --> 00:27:19 Nobody's at the park. And that's any basketball court you go to.
00:27:19 --> 00:27:22 Kids just don't play like that anymore. No, they don't. No.
00:27:23 --> 00:27:28 But part of it also, too, because, and you guys can both comment on this.
00:27:28 --> 00:27:31 Do you think the AAU ruined basketball?
00:27:32 --> 00:27:38 Yes. Matter of fact, I was talking to a couple of guys back,
00:27:38 --> 00:27:44 but they'd won the state of Delaware with this redistricting and all these,
00:27:44 --> 00:27:47 what, Division I, II, III?
00:27:47 --> 00:27:55 Come on, man, it's like this. back in the day we had no shot of getting into Sanford, Tire Hill St.
00:27:56 --> 00:28:03 Elizabeth that was another question now they're using our kids to play basketball
00:28:03 --> 00:28:07 just because they could compete for a state championship something that those
00:28:07 --> 00:28:10 schools back in the day never would have had.
00:28:11 --> 00:28:17 And you ask me that was the part that they shut down PS because PS was on the
00:28:17 --> 00:28:22 verge of winning another championship winning another championship because that
00:28:22 --> 00:28:26 team they went to Concord they went to Concord and won that championship,
00:28:28 --> 00:28:33 all those kids went to Concord Brandywine they even bused kids from Riverside
00:28:33 --> 00:28:38 out to William Penn the Lumpkin guys and all that all those guys was Pierce products,
00:28:39 --> 00:28:45 and so it had something to do with and then they used their kids for the not
00:28:45 --> 00:28:49 so much education where they said I'll talk to someone and they said they got
00:28:49 --> 00:28:51 tutors for them and everything.
00:28:51 --> 00:28:55 But after they finished playing basketball, nobody got their back to get them into college.
00:28:57 --> 00:29:02 Yeah, that's a shame. That is really a shame. And so that's what's going on
00:29:02 --> 00:29:04 now. Yeah. It's big for this now.
00:29:04 --> 00:29:07 But, okay, Leonard asked Robin this question.
00:29:08 --> 00:29:13 I'm going to ask you this question. So what were you doing, and how did it make
00:29:13 --> 00:29:15 you feel when you got the call?
00:29:16 --> 00:29:19 Well, man, it was around Christmas. A couple days before Christmas,
00:29:20 --> 00:29:26 I was up in Wilmington at my mother's house on 34th Street, and Mark Sills called me.
00:29:28 --> 00:29:33 I said, wow. And then Jay Bunkman, they call me Jay Bird? Yeah, I know Jay. Yeah.
00:29:34 --> 00:29:41 He called me, man. It was great. It was like a reward, and I was humble because
00:29:41 --> 00:29:45 I left Delaware in 1975 and never came back.
00:29:47 --> 00:29:53 And to be remembered like this, and there's so many great athletes,
00:29:53 --> 00:29:55 and some are in and some are not in.
00:29:55 --> 00:30:01 And some are still bickering because I'm in and some are not in but to be remembered
00:30:01 --> 00:30:04 and not to even live in the state for you know,
00:30:05 --> 00:30:11 for a while it's very humbling well it's you know sometimes it takes,
00:30:12 --> 00:30:18 it's not always where you are or it's or you know where you live in and those
00:30:18 --> 00:30:25 type of things it's who you touched and who you came in contact with and who
00:30:25 --> 00:30:28 you were able to make a connection with.
00:30:28 --> 00:30:33 And, you know, both of you guys have made the connections in Delaware that people,
00:30:33 --> 00:30:37 they may have been quiet, but they never forgot.
00:30:37 --> 00:30:43 I mean, you know, there's many people, you talk about who's the best woman basketball
00:30:43 --> 00:30:44 player ever played in Delaware.
00:30:45 --> 00:30:48 That's the whole team, I'm going to say Robin Johnson. Right.
00:30:48 --> 00:30:53 You know, who's one of the top men basketball players to ever play in Delaware?
00:30:53 --> 00:30:56 Your name is still going to be in the top i bet you your name comes in that
00:30:56 --> 00:31:02 top 20 you know you know from delaware you know now you know we got the superstars
00:31:02 --> 00:31:06 robin mentioned a couple of them earlier because they made it to the nba we
00:31:06 --> 00:31:08 got a couple guys in the nba right now.
00:31:09 --> 00:31:14 But when we talk about overall history in delaware we gotta look at you two
00:31:14 --> 00:31:19 we gotta look at you two you know you guys and that's why you guys are going
00:31:19 --> 00:31:23 into this hall of fame and really should be in the other Hall of Fame, too,
00:31:24 --> 00:31:26 the Delaware Hall of Fame, Sports Hall of Fame.
00:31:27 --> 00:31:31 So hopefully that happens for the two of you, too. Maybe this will be a stepping
00:31:31 --> 00:31:33 stone to get you in that one.
00:31:33 --> 00:31:37 You know, of course, there's nothing like being recognized by your peers.
00:31:38 --> 00:31:40 Exactly. You know, so.
00:31:40 --> 00:31:48 But now, have you guys been able to get your people on board to be there this
00:31:48 --> 00:31:50 Saturday as far as selling tickets and everything?
00:31:51 --> 00:31:53 Yeah, I'm pretty much straight, Dave.
00:31:54 --> 00:31:59 Yeah. Are you straight? I have a buddy. I had a buddy up there,
00:31:59 --> 00:32:01 you know, Jerome Saunders.
00:32:01 --> 00:32:04 Yeah, Jerome Saunders. I know Jerome has been putting it, man.
00:32:04 --> 00:32:10 Man, he did all, by me living in Norfolk, he did all the lay work for me.
00:32:11 --> 00:32:14 All the lay work. All the tickets selling.
00:32:15 --> 00:32:21 Took care of everything. And he's serious, Leonard. Jerome has been on point with this, man.
00:32:22 --> 00:32:29 I mean, is he on point every year? he's that kind of guy he's that kind of guy
00:32:29 --> 00:32:33 yeah he has to be he likes to be involved,
00:32:34 --> 00:32:40 yeah that's him yeah he's very much involved in a lot of things you know he's
00:32:40 --> 00:32:43 like very much involved in the whole Price is Park or,
00:32:44 --> 00:32:49 you know, old-timers club and all of that stuff. You know, that's Jerome.
00:32:49 --> 00:32:53 That's Jerome, you know. I've known Jerome just about all my life.
00:32:53 --> 00:32:57 I remember his father owned a store in Riverside. And I knew Jerome.
00:32:58 --> 00:33:03 Yeah, I lived in Riverside, and I used to go to his father's store all the time. You remember that?
00:33:04 --> 00:33:10 Yeah, I remember. I remember very well. I lived right around the corner from him. So, yeah.
00:33:11 --> 00:33:16 He drove me and Jerome to college down to Delaware State.
00:33:18 --> 00:33:23 And then we had to go, Mr. Major. Yeah, Mr. Major. That's right. Mr.
00:33:24 --> 00:33:29 Major got out the car. Dave, I've never seen so much money in my life. Wow.
00:33:30 --> 00:33:34 Wow. He had to pay for Jerome for the register, the money. Yeah.
00:33:35 --> 00:33:38 He paid in cash. He paid in cash.
00:33:39 --> 00:33:44 He was a businessman he was a great guy yeah he was he was he was he had that
00:33:44 --> 00:33:49 store for a long time man I remember when he got the store because that store
00:33:49 --> 00:33:52 only had two owners when I lived over there so you know so,
00:33:53 --> 00:33:57 yeah and Jerome used to look Jerome used to come in there and work he'd be mad
00:33:57 --> 00:33:59 because he didn't want to be there.
00:34:00 --> 00:34:05 Wow man I remember that I remember that yeah that's a long time yeah a long
00:34:05 --> 00:34:11 time ago yeah so Well, I want both of you to tell people how they can,
00:34:11 --> 00:34:14 you know, in case people are still trying to scramble to get tickets,
00:34:14 --> 00:34:15 how they can reach you guys.
00:34:16 --> 00:34:21 And make sure to mention what time the event is and everything if you,
00:34:21 --> 00:34:26 and give out, you know, your contact information. Let's go with you first, Robyn.
00:34:28 --> 00:34:31 Well, for tickets, they will have to, at this point, they will have to contact.
00:34:31 --> 00:34:32 Oh, yeah, they stopped. They stopped.
00:34:32 --> 00:34:37 Yeah, Mark Seal or either Mr. Mike Brown. Yeah, okay.
00:34:38 --> 00:34:44 Yeah, the event will be starting, I think, at 6 o'clock. The doors will open at 5.30.
00:34:45 --> 00:34:51 Okay, and they have dinner, and they have dinner, and then they start the presentation,
00:34:51 --> 00:34:54 I guess, right? Yes, yes, absolutely.
00:34:54 --> 00:35:00 Okay, all right. And in case anybody wants to contact you guys on your social
00:35:00 --> 00:35:03 media or whatever, do you guys have contact information?
00:35:04 --> 00:35:08 My contact information on Facebook is Robin Johnson.
00:35:09 --> 00:35:13 Okay. All right. And Marvin? Yes.
00:35:13 --> 00:35:20 You can contact me by email, MarvinBell64 at gmail.com.
00:35:20 --> 00:35:27 Okay. All right. All right. Well, like I said, once again, congratulations on both of your honors.
00:35:27 --> 00:35:30 That's awesome. So happy for the both of you.
00:35:30 --> 00:35:35 Thank you. As a fellow Dynamiter, you know, we proud. We proud. You know that.
00:35:35 --> 00:35:40 That's right. That's right. Hey, Dave. So a question for all the young people here.
00:35:40 --> 00:35:44 What is a dynamiter? Oh, Lord. OK.
00:35:47 --> 00:35:51 It's actually a stick of dynamite. It's a troll ship.
00:35:52 --> 00:35:57 And, you know, like the logo has it lit and it's about to blow up.
00:35:58 --> 00:36:01 You know what I mean? OK, so the dynamite was your mascot.
00:36:02 --> 00:36:05 It was our mascot. Yeah, that was our mascot. Absolutely.
00:36:05 --> 00:36:08 Yeah. It meant that we was explosive. Yeah.
00:36:10 --> 00:36:15 We did things in a big way, man. We did things in a big way back then. That's right.
00:36:16 --> 00:36:20 Hey, Robin, just let you know, Dave's not a dynamiter because he ain't graduated
00:36:20 --> 00:36:23 from P.S. Dupont High School, okay? Oh.
00:36:24 --> 00:36:29 I mean, I'm just saying. That's the same. Dave didn't graduate from P.S. That's the same.
00:36:29 --> 00:36:32 That's the same. Why are you trying to put me on the spot like that, man? Okay.
00:36:34 --> 00:36:38 Look, I'm getting ready to mute you. I'm getting ready to mute your button over there. Okay?
00:36:38 --> 00:36:41 All right. Dave, we graduated from A.I. DuPont. Come on now.
00:36:42 --> 00:36:45 We graduated from A.I. DuPont. First of all, you didn't graduate.
00:36:46 --> 00:36:47 Look, first of all, how old are you?
00:36:48 --> 00:36:50 I'm 49. Okay. All right. You're getting any talking.
00:36:52 --> 00:36:53 I'm a baby. Yeah, I know.
00:36:57 --> 00:37:00 Okay. Anyway, we're getting ready to go to our topic.
00:37:00 --> 00:37:04 So you guys said you wanted to hang out with us. So we got a couple of topics
00:37:04 --> 00:37:05 that we wanted to talk about.
00:37:06 --> 00:37:10 Let's see. And just get your opinion on it because, you know,
00:37:10 --> 00:37:16 what we do is we like to talk about a couple things that's going on in the world today.
00:37:16 --> 00:37:24 So I want to read this story and you guys can give me your thoughts on it. You know, so here we go.
00:37:24 --> 00:37:29 The story is talking about Candace Owens calls Trump and a mad king.
00:37:30 --> 00:37:36 And says that his administration is satanic. Now, I thought this was interesting
00:37:36 --> 00:37:38 because there's, of course, been a lot going on with him lately.
00:37:39 --> 00:37:42 And, you know, we talk about everything on this show, by the way.
00:37:42 --> 00:37:46 Candace Owen has called the President Donald Trump's removal from,
00:37:46 --> 00:37:54 a call for the removal from office after escalating political remarks and labeling him as a mad king.
00:37:54 --> 00:38:00 She has accused his leadership of deep instability and urges Congress to impeach him.
00:38:00 --> 00:38:07 She posted the remark on X, which was formerly Twitter, where she describes
00:38:07 --> 00:38:13 the administration as satanic operation and says satanic Zionists occupy the White House.
00:38:13 --> 00:38:17 She referred to Trump as a mad king and pushed for the removal through Congress.
00:38:17 --> 00:38:28 All of our lives we may depend upon other countries realizing that Trump is deeply unwell.
00:38:28 --> 00:38:37 And I surround and surrounded by religious fanatics who have convinced him that he is a messiah.
00:38:37 --> 00:38:40 We are in uncharted territory.
00:38:40 --> 00:38:44 Leaders worldwide need to act accordingly, she said.
00:38:44 --> 00:38:49 She argues that impeachment should be used instead of the 25th Amendment,
00:38:49 --> 00:38:55 a route that some critics have previously suggested. Owens said Congress should
00:38:55 --> 00:38:59 act directly and remove Trump amid concerns over his leadership.
00:38:59 --> 00:39:04 Her comments quickly drew attention from the political figures,
00:39:05 --> 00:39:09 including former Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
00:39:09 --> 00:39:13 Green called for people inside the administration to intervene,
00:39:14 --> 00:39:23 saying Trump's actions show signs of instability and required internal actions to.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:31 The backlash, sorry, the backlash followed Trump's recent social media posts
00:39:31 --> 00:39:35 addressing Iran and the Strait of Hormuz,
00:39:35 --> 00:39:39 which sparked online criticism.
00:39:40 --> 00:39:45 That post intensified political debate and renewed calls from critics to consider
00:39:45 --> 00:39:49 possible steps towards removing him from office.
00:39:49 --> 00:39:55 And of course, a couple of days ago, we saw the picture of him laying hands
00:39:55 --> 00:39:58 on somebody as though he looked like he was the Messiah.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:03 So what are you guys, what are you guys thoughts on all of this?
00:40:04 --> 00:40:08 Do you, I mean, of course, you know, do you feel he should be impeached?
00:40:08 --> 00:40:13 Do you feel that he's in line with how a president should be running this country?
00:40:14 --> 00:40:18 What are you guys thoughts on that? Let's go with you first, Rob.
00:40:19 --> 00:40:23 I think Robin's on mute. You may want to go with Marvin. Okay, go ahead, Marvin.
00:40:24 --> 00:40:33 Well, see, everybody's—Trump is a problem, but there's one person behind Trump
00:40:33 --> 00:40:34 that's creating all this.
00:40:35 --> 00:40:37 They never talk about it. It's a Stephen Miller.
00:40:38 --> 00:40:39 Is that the guy with the glasses?
00:40:40 --> 00:40:45 No, he's a little—the bald-haired guy, the short guy.
00:40:45 --> 00:40:48 Okay, I know you're talking about it. Okay, I know you're talking about it, yeah.
00:40:49 --> 00:40:52 He's the one that's setting the policy and the one that never says nothing.
00:40:52 --> 00:40:58 See, their goal is to have an all-white Christian nation. Hmm.
00:40:59 --> 00:41:03 You know, and that's what all this religious doctrine coming up and so forth.
00:41:04 --> 00:41:09 Like, you can remember last week when even the Secretary of Defense had said?
00:41:10 --> 00:41:16 Yeah. Yeah. He was trying to put religious parables into the missing airline
00:41:16 --> 00:41:19 policy when they were found. Remember that?
00:41:19 --> 00:41:22 Yes, yes, I saw that. Yes, I did. Yes. Yeah.
00:41:23 --> 00:41:27 And it's all based on that. Trump is not that smart.
00:41:30 --> 00:41:35 So it's the guy behind the scene and there's that Stephen Miller.
00:41:35 --> 00:41:36 He's the runner calling the shots.
00:41:38 --> 00:41:41 Okay, now that's a different take. I've never heard that take before.
00:41:42 --> 00:41:46 Because Leonard, we're always hearing stuff about, we're talking about things
00:41:46 --> 00:41:49 that he does. But that's the first time I've ever heard that angle. Okay.
00:41:50 --> 00:41:53 All right. And that kind of makes sense? Yeah.
00:41:54 --> 00:41:59 Now, Trump is bad, but he's not that intelligent enough to do some of the things that he does.
00:41:59 --> 00:42:03 Well, we know that he's being fed. We know that he's being fed.
00:42:04 --> 00:42:06 We know that he's being fed that he's got
00:42:06 --> 00:42:10 a lot going on with um with
00:42:10 --> 00:42:13 you know because even when he comes up to speak on you know
00:42:13 --> 00:42:19 does he stay in the nation and all of that stuff you know you can tell his speeches
00:42:19 --> 00:42:24 is all over the place he never seems to stay on one topic at one time and of
00:42:24 --> 00:42:28 course he's everything's great and everything's you know we're doing such a
00:42:28 --> 00:42:30 great job at this We're doing a great job at that.
00:42:30 --> 00:42:36 That type of thing, you know, Robin, are you there? Or you have any comments?
00:42:37 --> 00:42:41 She's still on mute. Okay. All right. Okay. All right. What's your thoughts, Alenic?
00:42:42 --> 00:42:48 Yeah. I mean, to be honest, I feel like this is nothing new from what we've seen at Trump.
00:42:48 --> 00:42:54 Like, if Trump does one thing, he's going to take attention away from the serious
00:42:54 --> 00:42:57 matters to put them on some foolishness. You know what I mean? Right.
00:42:58 --> 00:43:00 So it's kind of like, because, you know, Dave, when that happened,
00:43:00 --> 00:43:03 the last three, four days, that's all anyone talking about.
00:43:03 --> 00:43:09 You know, when I went on social media, I saw all his Messiah memes all over
00:43:09 --> 00:43:13 the place and people saying it right or wrong.
00:43:13 --> 00:43:18 And, you know, all this time, you know, in the background, we were negotiating a war.
00:43:19 --> 00:43:22 We got high gas prices, you know.
00:43:22 --> 00:43:27 So I I feel like he is a master distractor.
00:43:28 --> 00:43:30 Yeah, that's a nice way of putting it. Yeah.
00:43:33 --> 00:43:36 Well, I just think that, you know, he's, you know, and then,
00:43:36 --> 00:43:38 you know, he's starting stuff with the Pope.
00:43:38 --> 00:43:42 I mean, you know, calling the Pope weak. Yeah, weak. Who does that?
00:43:43 --> 00:43:48 You know. Yeah, they talk about the Pope is weak, weak on crime.
00:43:48 --> 00:43:53 Yeah. Well, you heard what the Pope said. He said, I ain't scared of him.
00:43:53 --> 00:43:54 He said, I ain't backing down from him.
00:43:55 --> 00:43:57 Oh, did he say that? Oh, yeah. Yeah, the Pope said that. Yeah,
00:43:57 --> 00:44:01 the Pope said, you know, he can say whatever he wants. He said he doesn't intimidate
00:44:01 --> 00:44:07 me, you know, so that's all that matters.
00:44:07 --> 00:44:13 Now, Dave, I will say I am curious if there are any Catholics who were offended,
00:44:13 --> 00:44:19 any Catholic Trump supporters who were offended by what he said and now have
00:44:19 --> 00:44:20 a different look on Trump.
00:44:21 --> 00:44:25 It's pretty true. He probably, there's probably a few that probably is wondering
00:44:25 --> 00:44:29 what he's doing, you know, and that's important.
00:44:29 --> 00:44:32 You know, they, you know, because, you know, you can't, you know,
00:44:32 --> 00:44:37 he wants to play God so bad, you know, and we can't, we can't.
00:44:38 --> 00:44:42 You know, well, I just don't I just don't understand why he's able to do the
00:44:42 --> 00:44:44 stuff that he does. But that's a whole nother story.
00:44:44 --> 00:44:48 So guess what? The vice president, he's a he's a Catholic.
00:44:49 --> 00:44:57 Yeah. Yeah. That is true. Yeah. No. Hey, Robin, did you hear any of that? Did you have any?
00:44:59 --> 00:45:05 Listen, I don't think that he should be in office, period. I don't even know how he got that.
00:45:05 --> 00:45:11 No, listen, I believe he is a tycoon when it comes to business,
00:45:11 --> 00:45:16 but politics, he, he is, he's the worst.
00:45:16 --> 00:45:21 He's the worst. And, you know, I just don't think he need to be in office.
00:45:21 --> 00:45:26 I don't, you know, all that he's doing is, it's not for people.
00:45:26 --> 00:45:33 It's not, it's not. It's like he wants to keep certain races of people in certain
00:45:33 --> 00:45:36 positions and underneath of,
00:45:37 --> 00:45:45 If I can be quoted saying old white money, because that's how I believe he stays
00:45:45 --> 00:45:47 in office with all the crap.
00:45:47 --> 00:45:51 It's old money comes out the war work. If they don't want a woman president,
00:45:52 --> 00:45:55 that old money's coming out. They ain't going to bring Hillary in.
00:45:56 --> 00:45:59 Damn, that Hillary's white. They're not going to let her in.
00:45:59 --> 00:46:03 That other woman, the one just ran against Trump. Definitely not.
00:46:03 --> 00:46:08 Obama got in because Obama got old money too. He know old money too.
00:46:09 --> 00:46:13 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's how I believe he got in.
00:46:13 --> 00:46:18 So, you know, Trump, man, listen, he's just not, he's not making this world
00:46:18 --> 00:46:21 or this America a better place. He's really not. Definitely not.
00:46:22 --> 00:46:27 Or he's not for us. Not for us. He's making it for himself. Absolutely not for us.
00:46:27 --> 00:46:33 He's made over $300 million in the year he's been in office.
00:46:33 --> 00:46:36 You know wow well on the day that
00:46:36 --> 00:46:39 that we know about that we know about it's probably
00:46:39 --> 00:46:43 over a billion he's gonna make that money i i can tell you that he's yeah he's
00:46:43 --> 00:46:48 a hell of a business man i just said it he's gonna get that money i i i you
00:46:48 --> 00:46:53 know do it all you know what i mean it's just politics is not his lane i mean
00:46:53 --> 00:46:58 he's not a politician no he's not he's not he's not so,
00:46:59 --> 00:47:04 okay all right well we're gonna move on we're gonna move off we're gonna move
00:47:04 --> 00:47:11 off the down okay all right okay okay yeah we since i got some old school people
00:47:11 --> 00:47:13 on here i thought this would be an interesting story so.
00:47:14 --> 00:47:17 Leonard, you remember The Price is Right, right? Yeah, I do.
00:47:17 --> 00:47:20 You remember Bob Barker, right? I do.
00:47:20 --> 00:47:24 Since you're the young boy here, you know, so I just want to make sure.
00:47:24 --> 00:47:26 Okay. So I came across the story.
00:47:26 --> 00:47:31 Former black models on The Price is Right says host Bob Barker was racist.
00:47:32 --> 00:47:36 Okay. So now I don't know if you guys remember when they first,
00:47:36 --> 00:47:38 you know, they were in a Claudia Jordan.
00:47:39 --> 00:47:43 You know, she was one of the first black women on there to be a model.
00:47:43 --> 00:47:47 And there was the other woman. I'm going to say her name in the story in a moment.
00:47:48 --> 00:47:52 Kathleen Bradley. Yeah, you know who I'm talking about, right? Miss Parker.
00:47:53 --> 00:47:59 Yeah, Kathleen Bradley. That's her name. Yeah, so, but here's the story.
00:47:59 --> 00:48:06 It says a new documentary, new documentary is bringing renewed attention to
00:48:06 --> 00:48:09 Bob Barker's time on The Price is Right.
00:48:09 --> 00:48:20 The former model alleges racism, retaliation, and a toxic work environment behind the scenes.
00:48:20 --> 00:48:25 Several women say that Barker treated Black contestants and staff differently.
00:48:27 --> 00:48:32 According to Complex, former model Claudia Jordan claims producers limited the
00:48:32 --> 00:48:36 number of Black contestants allowed per taping to two.
00:48:37 --> 00:48:40 You don't always wonder why you didn't see a lot of him pick a lot of black
00:48:40 --> 00:48:42 people on that show. That's interesting.
00:48:43 --> 00:48:46 Yeah. She also said contestant cards.
00:48:48 --> 00:48:53 Were marked so that Barker would know who was about to come on down.
00:48:54 --> 00:49:02 Jordan adds that Barker appeared uneasy around black contestants on stage and
00:49:02 --> 00:49:07 that she sometimes was targeted with race-based jokes.
00:49:08 --> 00:49:12 Kathleen Bradley, who became the first full-time black model on the show,
00:49:13 --> 00:49:18 says she occasionally heard racist language during production meetings when
00:49:18 --> 00:49:19 bottles were not present.
00:49:20 --> 00:49:28 She describes the workplace as one where discrimination was often normalized and rarely challenged.
00:49:28 --> 00:49:37 Holly Holstrom, one of the original Barker beauties, has also spoken publicly about her experiences.
00:49:37 --> 00:49:45 She claims Barker showed anger towards fellow model Dion Parkinson and made... Get your phone!
00:49:46 --> 00:49:54 Sorry. and made offensive remarks about Black men during internal disputes.
00:49:55 --> 00:50:01 Halstam also alleges she was removed from the show after refusing to support
00:50:01 --> 00:50:05 Barker's doing Parkinson's sexual harassment lawsuit.
00:50:05 --> 00:50:12 Barker, who died in 2023 at age 99, consistently denied all these allegations
00:50:12 --> 00:50:14 of wrongdoing during his lifetime.
00:50:14 --> 00:50:22 His long-time representatives have also rejected the claims raised in the documentary. So.
00:50:23 --> 00:50:29 Know this was a show that was on for and still on i mean for years and bob barker
00:50:29 --> 00:50:34 was the host that we all kind of came up with you know and i think at one time
00:50:34 --> 00:50:36 all of us watched it i mean i know,
00:50:36 --> 00:50:41 i know i watched it because my mom watched it i watched it leonard did you watch
00:50:41 --> 00:50:46 it yeah i mean i watched it because my my grandparents and aunts watched it
00:50:46 --> 00:50:52 yeah yeah yeah i mean so when you do You know, when you look at these game shows, you think about,
00:50:52 --> 00:50:57 especially during the 70s, the 80s, and the 90s, during those times when game
00:50:57 --> 00:50:59 shows were still pretty popular,
00:50:59 --> 00:51:05 and you kind of noticed that you didn't see a lot of blacks that would be on
00:51:05 --> 00:51:07 these shows, or whatever the case may be.
00:51:07 --> 00:51:10 Do you think a lot of it had to do with hosts like Barker?
00:51:10 --> 00:51:16 What do you guys think? So, I mean, for myself, so I don't necessarily remember
00:51:16 --> 00:51:20 as far as, you know, the lack of black people or not.
00:51:20 --> 00:51:24 But I'm not surprised that they limited it to black people because,
00:51:24 --> 00:51:28 you know, I think now since all this has been coming out, you know,
00:51:28 --> 00:51:30 of course, I've seen some videos, this one video.
00:51:30 --> 00:51:37 And I mean, it was, you know, probably a an outlier type of video.
00:51:37 --> 00:51:42 But there was a white lady who came up, you know, Bob Barker gives her a hug
00:51:42 --> 00:51:43 or kisses her on the cheek.
00:51:44 --> 00:51:49 And then right after that, there was a black lady who came up who tried to give Bob a hug.
00:51:49 --> 00:51:52 And he was like running around this. You know, he was like running in a circle.
00:51:52 --> 00:51:54 But, you know, he kind of made.
00:51:54 --> 00:51:58 Yeah. Like but he kind of made like a joke of it, like laughing at it.
00:51:58 --> 00:52:03 But it's kind of like, you know, once I had that, you know, idea that he he
00:52:03 --> 00:52:06 could be racist, then it's like, well, you know, why, you know,
00:52:06 --> 00:52:09 why are you running? Because you didn't run from the white lady.
00:52:10 --> 00:52:14 And Dave, I'd also like to say, and that's right, you didn't come down,
00:52:14 --> 00:52:18 but Kathleen Bradley was at GNR Campgrounds.
00:52:19 --> 00:52:21 She had come down for the pageant. So I got to meet her.
00:52:22 --> 00:52:30 Very nice. Very elegantly articulate, but very nice person. Very down to earth.
00:52:31 --> 00:52:35 And I actually bought her book and I had it signed to me as well.
00:52:35 --> 00:52:38 So you could have had one too if you had been there.
00:52:39 --> 00:52:44 But the other thing I'd like to say too is, and I kind of want to ask,
00:52:44 --> 00:52:48 but I think it might have been past her time, but my cousin who lives here in
00:52:48 --> 00:52:54 Delaware, she was also one of Barker's beauties on The Price is Right.
00:52:54 --> 00:53:00 Her name is, um, yeah, her maiden name was Ashley, good God.
00:53:00 --> 00:53:05 That's your cousin. Coleman. I'm sorry. Ashley Coleman. See, I'm getting old.
00:53:06 --> 00:53:11 I'm just getting old. like dynamiters. No, no, no, no, don't even try it.
00:53:12 --> 00:53:16 But long story short, I believe everything I've heard, there's nothing I've
00:53:16 --> 00:53:19 heard where I'm like, oh, that probably didn't happen.
00:53:19 --> 00:53:24 So I, you know. In fact, Dave, what was that on? Is there a documentary for that?
00:53:25 --> 00:53:28 Because I definitely want to see it. I just don't know where it is.
00:53:28 --> 00:53:32 There was a document. There is a documentary. Let's see.
00:53:34 --> 00:53:39 Yeah, it's not saying what it's on, But there is definitely a new documentary
00:53:39 --> 00:53:45 It's bringing it up So it's out there It's definitely out there So either one
00:53:45 --> 00:53:47 of you guys have any comments about this?
00:53:48 --> 00:53:51 Well, fellas, what can we say? It was the 70s.
00:53:53 --> 00:53:56 The truth. That is true. Yeah, that is true.
00:53:57 --> 00:54:00 It changed my diversity of life. Made me take a course.
00:54:00 --> 00:54:04 Made me do things I didn't want to do. The whole lot of racism.
00:54:04 --> 00:54:06 Right there in Wilmington, Delaware.
00:54:06 --> 00:54:10 Oh, yeah. That's true. That's true. That is true.
00:54:11 --> 00:54:14 Yeah. Okay. All right. Okay.
00:54:16 --> 00:54:18 They was having ditty parties back then.
00:54:21 --> 00:54:24 You know it was tucked in diddy parties,
00:54:28 --> 00:54:30 diddy parties didn't just start with diddy.
00:54:35 --> 00:54:39 Well keep in mind they didn't have they didn't have these phones back then so
00:54:39 --> 00:54:44 a lot of stuff never found out about you imagine you imagine you guys are ballplayers you imagine,
00:54:45 --> 00:54:51 if there was this type of electronics and social media and stuff back during
00:54:51 --> 00:54:53 the times that, you know,
00:54:53 --> 00:54:57 coming up with Magic and all them guys, you know, all these superstars,
00:54:57 --> 00:55:03 you imagine what would have came out, you know, about a lot of the stuff that they did.
00:55:03 --> 00:55:07 Magic talked about it. So he said, man, I'm so glad that I didn't play during this time, man.
00:55:07 --> 00:55:10 Because you can't do anything anymore. You can't do anything.
00:55:11 --> 00:55:13 All y'all dynamiters would have been in trouble.
00:55:14 --> 00:55:18 Every single one of y'all dynamiters would have been on somebody's tape,
00:55:18 --> 00:55:19 someone's social media.
00:55:20 --> 00:55:23 Everybody would have been in trouble. But you know what, Dave? Yeah.
00:55:24 --> 00:55:29 You know, back when I was a kid, like 14 and 15, they thought it was going to be something.
00:55:29 --> 00:55:32 P.S. had a coach named Ralph Baer. You ever heard of him? Yeah,
00:55:32 --> 00:55:33 I know who Ralph Baer was, yes.
00:55:34 --> 00:55:39 Man, that guy used to come out of his pocket, you know, because I was going to go to Howard.
00:55:40 --> 00:55:44 I wasn't going to go to Pierce, but he heard about me, you know, from Bancroft.
00:55:44 --> 00:55:47 That guy, he paid for my basketball camps and everything.
00:55:47 --> 00:55:51 He used to come right in the project, up to the front door, get me,
00:55:51 --> 00:55:56 take me way out somewhere, to A.I., to P.I.
00:55:56 --> 00:56:00 Somewhere, whole castles, you know, anywhere back as a kid that we didn't know
00:56:00 --> 00:56:02 nothing about, you know.
00:56:03 --> 00:56:09 But uh but he exposed me to a lot of things you know basketball camps and stuff but uh,
00:56:10 --> 00:56:15 those settings was really rough yeah they they were they were and it was a lot
00:56:15 --> 00:56:18 of stuff going on back then and you know when you see it when you hear these
00:56:18 --> 00:56:20 type of stories and i'm pretty sure.
00:56:21 --> 00:56:24 That and now you know it's funny leonard you said you want to see the documentary
00:56:24 --> 00:56:29 i do too because i like to see what really went on back then you know but we
00:56:29 --> 00:56:33 keep finding out stuff we keep finding out stuff about this kind of stuff happening
00:56:33 --> 00:56:35 back during the day anyway, you know, so...
00:56:37 --> 00:56:42 But I'm sure when we see the documentary, I'm sure a lot will be said.
00:56:44 --> 00:56:49 But it's funny how all of it comes out now after everybody's dead and gone.
00:56:49 --> 00:56:52 Well, yeah. Yeah. Well, that's true. That's true.
00:56:52 --> 00:56:57 But me and Leonard was talking last week and recently because we've been doing
00:56:57 --> 00:56:58 this show for five years now.
00:56:58 --> 00:57:02 So we've talked about a lot of different things. And we talk about,
00:57:02 --> 00:57:06 you know, we're in cancel culture now.
00:57:06 --> 00:57:09 So, you know, you, you know, stuff that we came up watching,
00:57:10 --> 00:57:15 you know, like, could you do the Jefferson's now the way the Jefferson's was done?
00:57:15 --> 00:57:20 Could you do, could you do good, what, all my children now and put it on TV
00:57:20 --> 00:57:25 and think you're going to get away with them saying the same stuff they said back during the 70s?
00:57:26 --> 00:57:30 No, that's not going to happen. No, absolutely not. Not going to happen. No.
00:57:30 --> 00:57:38 You know, so we're just in a whole different day and time. It's really a different day and time now.
00:57:40 --> 00:57:44 But anyway, Leonard, I think you got a story you wanted to talk about there.
00:57:44 --> 00:57:49 Yeah, so my next story, and I mean, it's kind of weird, but so,
00:57:50 --> 00:57:54 you know, of course, last week, the shuttle Artemis II, you know,
00:57:54 --> 00:57:56 went to the moon, went around the moon and came back.
00:57:57 --> 00:58:02 And of course, you know, congratulations, it was piloted by an African-American,
00:58:03 --> 00:58:11 But now that it has landed, there's a lot of controversy regarding some conspiracy theories.
00:58:11 --> 00:58:16 I'm not sure if y'all heard any, but there's videos going around saying that
00:58:16 --> 00:58:21 they didn't really go into space, that they were, you know, they did fake space.
00:58:22 --> 00:58:26 And Dave, one video I saw specifically, and Robin and Marvin,
00:58:26 --> 00:58:31 I'm not sure if y'all have seen it, but they had the astronauts and they were,
00:58:31 --> 00:58:35 you know, supposedly in space. They were all lined up. They were kind of talking for an interview.
00:58:36 --> 00:58:38 And one of the astronauts was holding a ball.
00:58:39 --> 00:58:45 And he dropped the ball. And the ball went straight down, like out of the screen.
00:58:45 --> 00:58:49 So, you know, people are saying, okay, if y'all in space and everything's floating,
00:58:49 --> 00:58:51 you should have kind of dropped. Why ain't that ball?
00:58:51 --> 00:58:53 Yeah. Like, you should have dropped the ball. And it should have,
00:58:54 --> 00:58:55 like, floated in that area.
00:58:56 --> 00:58:59 So, and then another thing I saw today, and I'm not sure y'all might have seen it, too.
00:59:01 --> 00:59:07 I guess NASA put out a video of Earth that they shot during this trip and some
00:59:07 --> 00:59:14 guy matched it with whenever they first went to the moon. I don't know if it was 77 or whatever.
00:59:14 --> 00:59:19 The images were the exact same, like the clouds were in the exact same position.
00:59:20 --> 00:59:23 So and that shouldn't have been. That shouldn't have been. No,
00:59:23 --> 00:59:27 but I mean, somebody said that NASA just used like an AI photo,
00:59:27 --> 00:59:31 like it wasn't the action. But it's kind of like if NASA puts out a photo,
00:59:31 --> 00:59:32 it needs to be a real photo.
00:59:33 --> 00:59:35 So I just kind of want to get y'all takes.
00:59:36 --> 00:59:41 You know, do you believe that they really went to space? If so, why? If not, why?
00:59:42 --> 00:59:44 And I guess, Robin, can we start with you?
00:59:45 --> 00:59:47 I don't believe they went to space.
00:59:48 --> 00:59:56 I remember, you know, when they did go to space, that it was saying that something happened.
00:59:57 --> 01:00:02 If we look, seven astronauts or something died or something.
01:00:02 --> 01:00:07 Yeah, I mean, one of those. I really don't think anybody made an attempt to go off there since then.
01:00:07 --> 01:00:13 You know, matter of fact, they was making fun of that by saying NASA stands
01:00:13 --> 01:00:16 for need another seven astronauts.
01:00:17 --> 01:00:18 Oh, damn.
01:00:19 --> 01:00:24 I've never heard that before. That's what they said it stand for.
01:00:25 --> 01:00:30 You know, so I, it just looked funny. I seen that same thing where that ball dropped. Yeah.
01:00:30 --> 01:00:34 And it should have been floating because everything else is floating.
01:00:34 --> 01:00:36 Right. Yeah. That ball wasn't floating.
01:00:37 --> 01:00:39 Wow. Wow.
01:00:41 --> 01:00:44 Well, you know, this is not the first time they accused NASA,
01:00:44 --> 01:00:46 you know, of them faking going to space.
01:00:46 --> 01:00:49 You know, this happened back during, what was that, Marvin? Wasn't that around
01:00:49 --> 01:00:54 the 70s or something they said? remember when they you know what I'm talking about right,
01:00:56 --> 01:01:02 No, I can't recall. Yeah, there was a, because they made a movie about it,
01:01:02 --> 01:01:07 and they were talking about how they made this soundstage,
01:01:08 --> 01:01:15 a movie theater, where they were showing them jumping around like they were in space. Oh, yeah.
01:01:17 --> 01:01:20 Yeah, and they said this happened during the 70s. What?
01:01:21 --> 01:01:26 Yeah, and they said they never went to space, said it was, they had the whole
01:01:26 --> 01:01:27 thing like on a movie set.
01:01:28 --> 01:01:31 And they had them jumping around like, yeah, it was crazy.
01:01:32 --> 01:01:37 It was crazy. I was just like, first of all, after what Robin said about the
01:01:37 --> 01:01:41 astronauts, you know, that whole thing what was that? Apollo?
01:01:42 --> 01:01:44 Was that one of the Apollo missions that blew up?
01:01:45 --> 01:01:47 15 or something like that. Yeah, right.
01:01:49 --> 01:01:53 Sure, they were scared to go back up there again. you know and that's why they
01:01:53 --> 01:01:58 keep doing these trips that they're not going all the way up in space you know
01:01:58 --> 01:02:01 they're just going around see like they're just going around earth.
01:02:02 --> 01:02:06 Know i don't think they're going up in space i've sensed
01:02:06 --> 01:02:08 that last day i don't think i don't think
01:02:08 --> 01:02:12 they're going up in space no more if they
01:02:12 --> 01:02:15 are something wrong you know i mean because uh i don't
01:02:15 --> 01:02:20 i don't think they're doing that i just don't you know yeah it's just a lot
01:02:20 --> 01:02:25 of stuff being rigged up to make it look like you know this is the world and
01:02:25 --> 01:02:30 these are astronauts and they're actually really going and bringing back samples
01:02:30 --> 01:02:32 and they're taking text this is,
01:02:33 --> 01:02:36 testing stuff up there and they moonwalking and
01:02:36 --> 01:02:41 i'm like okay all right okay well
01:02:41 --> 01:02:44 whatever y'all say yeah i know well i'm
01:02:44 --> 01:02:48 sure i'm sure they got that ball they go i'm sure they got that ball and they
01:02:48 --> 01:02:53 got rid of it real quick so they couldn't test it or whatever so in fact they
01:02:53 --> 01:02:57 didn't did you see that video that we're talking about i laughed when i saw
01:02:57 --> 01:03:01 it i saw it yeah i i was gonna say something to you about it,
01:03:01 --> 01:03:04 but I forgot to mention it to you. I said, man, that's crazy.
01:03:04 --> 01:03:11 You know, so, and of course it only happened because a black man was leading
01:03:11 --> 01:03:12 the mission. You know what I mean?
01:03:13 --> 01:03:16 So, that's the only reason that happened. Dave, the only thing I can say,
01:03:16 --> 01:03:18 and this is just devil the advocate.
01:03:19 --> 01:03:23 Technology in the last 20 years has been flying.
01:03:23 --> 01:03:28 And I only say that to say, like, you know, 20 years ago. Well, OK, let's say 25.
01:03:29 --> 01:03:32 Like, I don't remember Internet 25 years ago. I don't remember cell phones.
01:03:33 --> 01:03:37 You know, we have self-driving cars. We're flying drones.
01:03:37 --> 01:03:41 So I'm not doubting that it's not possible.
01:03:42 --> 01:03:46 I'm not sure if we really went to space this last trip. But I mean,
01:03:46 --> 01:03:50 you know, you know, technology has been advancing at the speed of light.
01:03:50 --> 01:03:54 So I'm sure there will be a point when we are really, you know,
01:03:55 --> 01:03:58 going to the moon, doing all that. If that wasn't last week.
01:03:59 --> 01:04:04 Yeah. OK. Well, that's funny.
01:04:04 --> 01:04:09 Well, when you say it all that you just said, that's going to take us to our
01:04:09 --> 01:04:15 last thing that we're going to talk about tonight before we end the show, which is Dave's Corner.
01:04:15 --> 01:04:19 This is Leonard's favorite part of the show, guys, where I get to talk about
01:04:19 --> 01:04:25 something and get him to give his thoughts on it or our guests.
01:04:25 --> 01:04:27 So what we're going to do is talk about Dave's Corner.
01:04:28 --> 01:04:33 And since Leonard just said what he said, this is what my Dave's Corner question is today.
01:04:35 --> 01:04:38 And I'm going to ask each one of you how you feel about this.
01:04:39 --> 01:04:44 What is better, a world with AI or a world without AI?
01:04:45 --> 01:04:48 Give your reasons to support your choice.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:53 So Marvin, we're going to start with you, because you're the older of the group. Okay.
01:04:54 --> 01:04:59 What's your thought? Do you think the world is better with AI or without AI?
01:05:02 --> 01:05:06 A lot of people losing their jobs, man. That's the thing in Joe.
01:05:07 --> 01:05:11 But you got to have it, though. So I would say better with AI.
01:05:12 --> 01:05:16 Okay. So you think because, you know, it's taking a lot of jobs away from people, huh?
01:05:17 --> 01:05:22 Yeah. But at the same time, man, I hate to say it, but our kids ain't learning
01:05:22 --> 01:05:24 nothing to keep up with today's technology.
01:05:25 --> 01:05:29 So, you know? Yeah.
01:05:30 --> 01:05:35 Yeah. I mean, I was kind of test 22 there. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know.
01:05:36 --> 01:05:41 Okay. All right. Robin, what's your thoughts? Is the world better with AI or without AI?
01:05:43 --> 01:05:46 100% with what Marvin said. You know what I mean?
01:05:47 --> 01:05:53 You know, the job loss thing is going to be big, but for our youth,
01:05:53 --> 01:05:57 our children, you know what I mean? It's starting their growth.
01:05:58 --> 01:06:07 They're not, you know, when I was coming up, we had to do things. We had to figure it out.
01:06:08 --> 01:06:13 We had to figure it out. You know what I mean? we had to you know make up little
01:06:13 --> 01:06:18 little things to do and games and stuff like that it wasn't you know a lot of
01:06:18 --> 01:06:24 all this technology stuff that's going on today you know so yeah i agree,
01:06:25 --> 01:06:30 that's true you know what dave yeah but a lot of people ain't mentioning the
01:06:30 --> 01:06:36 reason why people's utility bills are sky high and getting higher nobody's doing
01:06:36 --> 01:06:40 nothing about these ai companies Those are the ones that are boasting up the utility bill.
01:06:40 --> 01:06:44 Well, you know, we got that data center.
01:06:45 --> 01:06:50 I don't know if you knew about this, Marvin. They're building a data center down there in St.
01:06:51 --> 01:06:53 George's. And people are really upset about it.
01:06:55 --> 01:06:59 And this thing is bigger than a football field. Yeah, I saw it. Oh, wow.
01:06:59 --> 01:07:05 Yeah, it's huge. Okay? And once that thing is up and running,
01:07:05 --> 01:07:10 which I think it's supposed to be within the next few, I think they said in
01:07:10 --> 01:07:11 the next six or seven months.
01:07:12 --> 01:07:17 That thing is going to, they're worried about costs going up even more because
01:07:17 --> 01:07:19 they're going to need to power that thing. Right.
01:07:20 --> 01:07:25 Yeah, so, but that's, you know, it's going to be crazy.
01:07:26 --> 01:07:30 It's going to be crazy. And data centers are popping up in each state all over.
01:07:31 --> 01:07:32 So, you know, yeah, so.
01:07:33 --> 01:07:37 Well, Leonard, what's your thoughts on here? Now, Leonard's a very technical guy, guys.
01:07:37 --> 01:07:42 So, you know, he relies on a lot of this stuff. So I'm anxious to hear what he's going to say.
01:07:43 --> 01:07:46 So, I mean, to be honest, I'm glad to agree with them. I mean,
01:07:46 --> 01:07:48 I think it's like a temporary benefit.
01:07:49 --> 01:07:53 But, I mean, in the long term, AI is going to be replacing jobs that,
01:07:54 --> 01:07:58 you know, you know, more and more jobs every year.
01:07:58 --> 01:08:02 And I mean, it's already replaced a lot of jobs. And then, two,
01:08:02 --> 01:08:05 you know, I think it's a detriment to the black community because,
01:08:06 --> 01:08:07 I mean, I think it's already proven that,
01:08:08 --> 01:08:16 you know, we are not equipped with the, you know, we fall behind in technology.
01:08:16 --> 01:08:21 So, you know, by, you know, the black community not being creators of AI,
01:08:22 --> 01:08:26 you know, like, well, I mean, if we're only the user and not the creator,
01:08:27 --> 01:08:29 then we're going to fall even farther behind.
01:08:29 --> 01:08:32 So I think overall, I think it's a bad thing.
01:08:33 --> 01:08:36 And right now it seems like AI has no limit.
01:08:36 --> 01:08:41 And I only say that in terms of, you know, like when does AI stop?
01:08:41 --> 01:08:47 Because, you know, I'm sure soon AI is going to create AI and those AI are going
01:08:47 --> 01:08:51 to be creating robots and then them robots are going to be creating other robots.
01:08:51 --> 01:08:56 And I mean, you know, it probably come to a point where they don't need humans no more.
01:08:57 --> 01:09:01 It'd be like the movie iRobot. It'd be iRobot right here, right?
01:09:01 --> 01:09:06 Yeah. Yeah, they already got some of those crazy people taking their lives and
01:09:06 --> 01:09:09 stuff and falling in love with false people.
01:09:09 --> 01:09:15 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That's crazy. Yeah, yeah, that's true. That's true. Yeah.
01:09:15 --> 01:09:20 I think we all kind of feel the same way about this subject because,
01:09:20 --> 01:09:24 of course, we worry about the whole thing about taking jobs and so forth.
01:09:24 --> 01:09:27 You guys been in
01:09:27 --> 01:09:29 a mcdonald's lately where you're going to mcdonald's and they
01:09:29 --> 01:09:32 don't have anybody at the counter and you got to do everything yourself
01:09:32 --> 01:09:36 yeah on the screen yeah yeah that's that's
01:09:36 --> 01:09:39 the craziest thing to me that you walk into a fast food place and
01:09:39 --> 01:09:43 they don't have anybody at the counter and you got to do everything yourself
01:09:43 --> 01:09:45 you know and and you know but that's
01:09:45 --> 01:09:49 where we're heading that's where we're heading absolutely yeah
01:09:49 --> 01:09:52 so but all right folks well
01:09:52 --> 01:09:56 there there you have it you know so once
