00:01:24 --> 00:01:26 What's going on, Mr. Leonard Young?
00:01:27 --> 00:01:31 Hey, Dave. Everything is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of National Black
00:01:31 --> 00:01:37 Guide, DelawareBlack.com, Black Media Specialist, all-around good guy. How goes it, Dave?
00:01:38 --> 00:01:42 Hey, man. Can't complain. It's another Tuesday.
00:01:42 --> 00:01:48 You get to hang out with the folks and our supporters and our listeners for over five years now.
00:01:49 --> 00:01:51 We really appreciate you guys. And,
00:01:52 --> 00:01:58 You know, this is a big week, right? Yeah, yeah. Big week. Tiring week.
00:02:00 --> 00:02:08 Well, you know, when you got all of the money that you got and you got to take
00:02:08 --> 00:02:16 care of that big property down there and you got to pay the people that you
00:02:16 --> 00:02:17 got working for them and everything,
00:02:18 --> 00:02:20 you know, it could be tiring. I get it.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:24 Yeah, definitely. But, you know, I mean, exciting at the same time.
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 So I know there are a lot of people looking forward to this week.
00:02:28 --> 00:02:30 So, yeah, that's right.
00:02:31 --> 00:02:34 They kind of like I said last year, it's going to be like a family reunion,
00:02:34 --> 00:02:37 you know. It's always a family reunion. You know, I saw a lot of people.
00:02:38 --> 00:02:44 So last year, and it's funny you say, I have a cousin who lives in Lewis, Delaware.
00:02:46 --> 00:02:50 And she started texting me. I did not know what she looked like.
00:02:50 --> 00:02:53 And then at a Sam Bailey
00:02:53 --> 00:02:57 you know billionaire Bailey um the at
00:02:57 --> 00:03:00 the Black Music Fest I met her very nice you
00:03:00 --> 00:03:04 know she's doing a lot she does a Louis Juneteenth parade
00:03:04 --> 00:03:08 and festival and I mean just a good connection I
00:03:08 --> 00:03:13 saw Katrina Banks you know I hadn't seen her for for years face to face I saw
00:03:13 --> 00:03:18 her had a couple family members down here you know it's always funny when you
00:03:18 --> 00:03:25 run into people and they say your name and you're looking at them trying to figure out who they are.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:29 And then, like, right at the end of the conversation, they say something, and you're like, oh,
00:03:30 --> 00:03:34 yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, because that's, that's my whole
00:03:34 --> 00:03:37 play with that, Leonard, because I get that all the time, right,
00:03:37 --> 00:03:41 and I'll be, I actually will say things to get them to that point,
00:03:42 --> 00:03:46 you know, like, okay, you got to say something, I got to keep saying stuff to
00:03:46 --> 00:03:49 make them tell me who they are, you know, you know, and then I'll,
00:03:50 --> 00:03:53 you know, figure it out, but you're right about the whole family reunion thing,
00:03:53 --> 00:03:56 And it's a chance to see friends.
00:03:56 --> 00:03:59 It's a chance to hang out with friends. It's a chance to hang out with family.
00:03:59 --> 00:04:07 My family, I think I told you before, my grandparents come from Milford and Harrington area.
00:04:07 --> 00:04:13 So being down in that area, you know, I get to see a lot of the people from
00:04:13 --> 00:04:16 downstate, you know, when they come out there, you know, because I got people
00:04:16 --> 00:04:19 in Dover, Harrington, Seaford.
00:04:19 --> 00:04:23 I mean, they're all down in that area that I don't see on a regular basis. So...
00:04:24 --> 00:04:30 So it is really a cool thing. But you guys that have never been and you're on
00:04:30 --> 00:04:33 the fence about it, you really need to come check this out.
00:04:35 --> 00:04:41 And hopefully after tonight's show, you'll even be more interested in making
00:04:41 --> 00:04:44 that happen because of who we have on with us tonight.
00:04:44 --> 00:04:51 So matter of fact, I guess we should go ahead and let people know who we have
00:04:51 --> 00:04:55 on tonight so that we'll pique their interest even more. Sure, definitely.
00:04:55 --> 00:05:00 So today we are privileged to have on Mr. Sam Bailey.
00:05:01 --> 00:05:05 And for more than 60 years, Sam has been a respected figure in entertainment,
00:05:05 --> 00:05:11 music, and event production throughout Delaware, Philadelphia, and South Jersey.
00:05:11 --> 00:05:15 His passion for music and dance began on Virginia's Eastern Shore,
00:05:15 --> 00:05:20 where he developed a love for live entertainment and started DJing as a teenager.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:26 Over the years, he built a reputation for creating high-quality events to bring
00:05:26 --> 00:05:33 people together while celebrating the unique dance styles and musical traditions of the region.
00:05:33 --> 00:05:40 In 1990, he founded Wilmington Gentleman of Distinction, combining elegant entertainment
00:05:40 --> 00:05:42 with community service and outreach.
00:05:42 --> 00:05:46 Through successful partnerships and large-scale productions,
00:05:46 --> 00:05:50 he helped create events that attracted thousands of attendees.
00:05:50 --> 00:05:55 Today, after more than 35 years as an event producer.
00:05:56 --> 00:06:00 Sam remains committed to delivering experiences known for quality,
00:06:00 --> 00:06:07 elegance, excellence, excitement, and fun, while continuing to celebrate the
00:06:07 --> 00:06:09 culture and the community he loves.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:16 So without further ado, we'd like to welcome Sam Bailey to the show.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:17 How you doing, Sam? Sam Bailey.
00:06:18 --> 00:06:24 Doing fine with my brothers. Yeah. You're having me. Yeah. You're coming on. Yes. You're welcome.
00:06:24 --> 00:06:28 So, I mean, Sam, I guess we'll jump straight to it.
00:06:28 --> 00:06:34 This weekend is going to be your third annual Delaware Black Music Fest.
00:06:34 --> 00:06:39 So I guess just to kind of take a GNR camp around Houston, Delaware, this Saturday.
00:06:39 --> 00:06:45 So I guess to take it back a little bit, what kind of gave you the idea to,
00:06:45 --> 00:06:51 you know, even envision doing an outdoor music festival here in Delaware?
00:06:52 --> 00:07:02 Well, you know, for years I've attended outdoor festivals in other cities and states, and,
00:07:03 --> 00:07:14 The vibe for an outdoor event was always so much more enhanced than when you do an event inside.
00:07:15 --> 00:07:22 And it just kept coming in my head, Sam, you need to do something outside.
00:07:22 --> 00:07:26 And then, of course, when you put, when you decided to spend part,
00:07:26 --> 00:07:33 a small portion of your billions to, to get the GNR campground,
00:07:33 --> 00:07:39 you know, it all made sense that we utilize that beautiful facility.
00:07:39 --> 00:07:46 You know, I started going to the Gun and Ride back in the 70s.
00:07:46 --> 00:07:54 And, you know, we used to play baseball down there and close up our little hole
00:07:54 --> 00:07:56 in the wall in Denton, Maryland.
00:07:56 --> 00:07:59 We'd close up at midnight and go to Gun and Ride.
00:08:00 --> 00:08:05 Oh, wow. Now, how far is Denton from this area? 20 minutes. Oh,
00:08:05 --> 00:08:08 okay. 20 minutes west. Gotcha.
00:08:08 --> 00:08:14 In fact, we have people staying at hotels in Denton for the Black Music Fest. Oh, wow.
00:08:15 --> 00:08:19 It was a little more economical to stay in Denton, Maryland,
00:08:19 --> 00:08:21 than to stay in Delaware. Yeah.
00:08:21 --> 00:08:30 Because of the beaches and what the hotels command, you know, this time of the year.
00:08:31 --> 00:08:37 Gotcha. Okay. So, you know, it is a good property.
00:08:38 --> 00:08:40 To have an event like this.
00:08:41 --> 00:08:48 And, you know, it's a historical property, number one. And, and...
00:08:49 --> 00:08:54 I always would want to be part of good history. So I'm here.
00:08:55 --> 00:08:59 Okay. And we're thankful for you, for sure.
00:08:59 --> 00:09:05 So now in case for people who have not been, so, I mean, I'll just say from,
00:09:05 --> 00:09:10 you know, my first, you know, my first person contact with it.
00:09:10 --> 00:09:15 So every year the event has grown. I remember the first year,
00:09:16 --> 00:09:20 and I can't remember if it was you told me, DJ Tim Dogg or someone,
00:09:20 --> 00:09:24 but, you know, it was kind of like, okay, you know, we're hoping to get, you know, 300 people.
00:09:25 --> 00:09:28 And I feel like about 500 or 600 people showed up.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:32 And then last year, it was like, okay, you know, we're aiming for about 500,
00:09:32 --> 00:09:36 600 people, and I feel like about 800 people showed up.
00:09:36 --> 00:09:41 You know, so this year, I know you're expecting some good things.
00:09:41 --> 00:09:47 What what type of is there anything different that people can kind of look forward to?
00:09:47 --> 00:09:51 Maybe that, you know, wasn't last year, but now this year you kind of switched
00:09:51 --> 00:09:56 up stuff and people who think they know what to expect are going to be surprised
00:09:56 --> 00:09:59 or, you know, just kind of given more.
00:10:00 --> 00:10:05 Well, this year, we're taking it to a whole new level or a whole new level of
00:10:05 --> 00:10:08 experience for our guests.
00:10:09 --> 00:10:17 This year, we have a kickoff party on Friday night with the DJ, Tim Dole.
00:10:17 --> 00:10:24 And we're just going to have big time fun.
00:10:24 --> 00:10:29 We're going to dance. We're going to see the people that we met last year and
00:10:29 --> 00:10:36 rekindle those friendships and relationships on Friday night.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:42 And then on Saturday, along with the festival, as the festival is going on,
00:10:42 --> 00:10:46 and you know, there are stage changes between each act.
00:10:46 --> 00:10:55 But simultaneously, we're going to be doing a lion dance jamboree inside the
00:10:55 --> 00:11:03 activity hall all day from 11 until 4 while the outdoor festival is going on
00:11:03 --> 00:11:06 to give people another flavor,
00:11:06 --> 00:11:08 another option.
00:11:08 --> 00:11:16 You know, if you can't come on and you feel like you want to be in air conditioning,
00:11:16 --> 00:11:21 go inside the building and get your line dance on and then come on back out.
00:11:21 --> 00:11:28 And also what we've added is a after party on Saturday night.
00:11:29 --> 00:11:33 With three DJs, one from each county here in Delaware.
00:11:33 --> 00:11:39 We have a DJ from Newcastle County, Kent County, and Sussex County,
00:11:39 --> 00:11:47 which is rare to gather DJs from all three counties in our small state. Right.
00:11:48 --> 00:11:53 And they're just going to rock the house. And we invite everyone within our
00:11:53 --> 00:11:59 listening voice. If you're within 150 miles of here, you're talking a three-hour trip.
00:11:59 --> 00:12:02 It's well worth the trip to come down.
00:12:02 --> 00:12:06 We have entertainment from 11 a.m. until midnight.
00:12:07 --> 00:12:12 Unheard of, but we're in Delaware. This is what we do.
00:12:13 --> 00:12:19 Right. Amen to that. Now, for people who, you know, people always ask,
00:12:19 --> 00:12:21 who's going to be there? What are they going to do?
00:12:21 --> 00:12:26 Can you name some of the performers, some of the DJs, some of the talent,
00:12:26 --> 00:12:30 some of the maybe line dance groups, you know, some of the groups that are going
00:12:30 --> 00:12:34 to be involved that people may have a need recognition with?
00:12:34 --> 00:12:39 Well, number one, you know, we always start out with gospel.
00:12:39 --> 00:12:45 And we have the Calvary Baptist Church Combined Choir from Dover, Delaware.
00:12:46 --> 00:12:49 Oh, wow. To open up the Black Music Fest.
00:12:49 --> 00:12:54 They've opened up the last two years and they just do a great job.
00:12:54 --> 00:12:59 They come in big numbers and these folks can sing.
00:13:01 --> 00:13:04 After after the choir we have
00:13:04 --> 00:13:07 tony smith with his jazz group
00:13:07 --> 00:13:10 and he'll do jazz and blues we have
00:13:10 --> 00:13:13 delaware's number one r&b band best
00:13:13 --> 00:13:16 kept soul and then we have our
00:13:16 --> 00:13:19 headliner this year our headliner is
00:13:19 --> 00:13:23 no more than the number one and
00:13:23 --> 00:13:27 only licensed and endorsed earth winning
00:13:27 --> 00:13:31 far tribute band out of washington dc
00:13:31 --> 00:13:34 wow and finishing up for
00:13:34 --> 00:13:37 the day backed by popular demand
00:13:37 --> 00:13:42 is our all female band uh
00:13:42 --> 00:13:49 jackie jacqueline face song and the remnant sounds band all female band that
00:13:49 --> 00:13:57 the crowd last year the man that they come back this year in between stage sets Yes.
00:13:58 --> 00:14:09 DJ Tim Dole and DJ Dave Milton from Seifert will be playing between sets to keep things going.
00:14:10 --> 00:14:14 Also between sets, we have hula hoop competition.
00:14:14 --> 00:14:22 We have two double dutch groups, the Double Dutch Therapy from Greenwood and
00:14:22 --> 00:14:26 the Delaware Diamonds from Dover doing double dutch.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:32 And, of course, people will bring their board games and that they will have
00:14:32 --> 00:14:38 their checkers and dominoes and all of those. Right.
00:14:39 --> 00:14:45 All of those board games that we played as kids. You'll see people sitting in
00:14:45 --> 00:14:46 their tents or with their tables.
00:14:47 --> 00:14:51 And not only they'll be enjoying the music, enjoying the vibe,
00:14:51 --> 00:14:56 the atmosphere, but they'll be playing old school games as well.
00:14:57 --> 00:15:03 Gotcha. That sounds good. Now, for people who've never been,
00:15:04 --> 00:15:08 what do they need to do to kind of, and of course, they got to get tickets.
00:15:08 --> 00:15:10 Can they show up at the door?
00:15:10 --> 00:15:14 Do they need to go online? Well, here's the deal.
00:15:16 --> 00:15:24 We have tickets available. We will be selling tickets until Friday, Friday, 6 p.m.
00:15:24 --> 00:15:31 We'll be selling tickets. Now, we want all tickets to be purchased in advance.
00:15:31 --> 00:15:38 We have two tickets. We have a $50 ticket, which covers Saturday during the
00:15:38 --> 00:15:42 day that will cover the festival and the line dance jamboree.
00:15:43 --> 00:15:52 We also have a $75 ticket that covers Friday night, all day Saturday night,
00:15:52 --> 00:15:55 and to the DJ on Sunday morning.
00:15:56 --> 00:16:02 That ticket, again, is $75. Both are available on Eventbrite.
00:16:02 --> 00:16:10 If you go to Eventbrite and put in Eventbrite Black Music Fest DE,
00:16:10 --> 00:16:16 and it'll populate and you can purchase your tickets there.
00:16:16 --> 00:16:29 If you go to our website, www.womantonsgents.com, you can also purchase tickets on Eventbrite there.
00:16:29 --> 00:16:36 But in addition, it'll give you about 30 people in different areas that you
00:16:36 --> 00:16:44 can contact to get your tickets from. We have ticket sellers in all three counties here in Delaware.
00:16:44 --> 00:16:48 We have Baltimore, New Jersey, Philadelphia.
00:16:49 --> 00:16:53 So just about regardless of where you are within the local region,
00:16:53 --> 00:16:57 you can get tickets to attend the Black Music Fest.
00:16:58 --> 00:17:04 Unfortunately, we don't live in a world where we like to handle cash.
00:17:04 --> 00:17:13 Uh, so we, uh, we kind of put the plug on same day cash sales at the gate.
00:17:14 --> 00:17:18 So, you know, please make sure you get your tickets in advance. Right.
00:17:19 --> 00:17:25 Gotcha. Now, as an event organizer for an event this big, I know it can probably
00:17:25 --> 00:17:32 be exciting, stressful, fun, scary, you know, all that.
00:17:33 --> 00:17:38 During the event, how do you manage to stay calm, collected, on track?
00:17:39 --> 00:17:44 Because, you know, I'm sure, you know, anyone who does events know your phone's
00:17:44 --> 00:17:47 probably going to be buzzing a hundred times. people will be calling your name.
00:17:48 --> 00:17:52 You know, friends, family, you know, you know, all that.
00:17:52 --> 00:17:56 How, how, how do you kind of keep everything together and stay on one page?
00:17:56 --> 00:18:01 Because, you know, I think having an, an outdoor event, I think is a little
00:18:01 --> 00:18:08 more challenging than an indoor event because usually there's just more area to cover and,
00:18:08 --> 00:18:11 you know, more things that, you know, just have to
00:18:11 --> 00:18:15 be handled so how like how do you go about keeping your
00:18:15 --> 00:18:18 composure and kind of just you know getting stuff done
00:18:18 --> 00:18:22 well you know the the
00:18:22 --> 00:18:26 people that that i have around me
00:18:26 --> 00:18:30 and kudos kudos
00:18:30 --> 00:18:36 to the women who helped do all of my events but by them i i'm not sure that
00:18:36 --> 00:18:44 it could even happen but i have some fantastic ladies including maddie who helped
00:18:44 --> 00:18:49 me even my daughters oh yeah yeah she was out there working hard too.
00:18:50 --> 00:18:54 Absolutely. And, you know, they know what I expect.
00:18:55 --> 00:19:05 And they do know more than to adhere and promote my will. Sure.
00:19:07 --> 00:19:12 And most of the people that I have working with me at the festival work with
00:19:12 --> 00:19:15 me for my other three events.
00:19:15 --> 00:19:17 So they know the protocol.
00:19:18 --> 00:19:23 Right. Uh, and, uh, you know, it's a matter of, it's no different than if,
00:19:23 --> 00:19:26 you know, like you running your billionaire company,
00:19:27 --> 00:19:30 you know, you, you know, you know, it, everything starts at,
00:19:30 --> 00:19:33 at the, you know, it starts at the top and trickle down.
00:19:34 --> 00:19:39 It's a trickle down effect. And, and, and it's no different with,
00:19:39 --> 00:19:42 you know, small guys like me. Right.
00:19:43 --> 00:19:45 If you, if you know what I'm saying.
00:19:47 --> 00:19:50 Sam over here telling all these jokes I know.
00:19:52 --> 00:19:59 Guys I'm getting I'm getting something here saying my battery is running low and I don't know why,
00:20:01 --> 00:20:06 but let's continue on I'll switch over I know Dave has some stuff but I do want
00:20:06 --> 00:20:09 to give a shout out to three of your well four of your staff of course Miss
00:20:09 --> 00:20:14 Maddie always working hard Miss Audrey she's one of my favorite people.
00:20:14 --> 00:20:15 I know she was helping at the gate.
00:20:16 --> 00:20:23 Um, and Tony Calloway. Yeah. Calloway. Yes. He did an excellent job last year.
00:20:23 --> 00:20:24 Hopefully he's coming back.
00:20:24 --> 00:20:31 And then, and I can't think of who the third person is, but I'll let Dave,
00:20:31 --> 00:20:33 I know he has some questions to ask. Um.
00:20:33 --> 00:20:39 Okay. Well, taking a look at this event, this is the third year,
00:20:39 --> 00:20:46 and it's fascinating watching this event grow, because like Leonard said,
00:20:46 --> 00:20:49 that first event, everybody was giddy.
00:20:50 --> 00:20:57 We had about 500, 600 people there, and everybody had a good time.
00:20:57 --> 00:21:00 You know, and that was the whole key. Everybody had a good time.
00:21:00 --> 00:21:05 I saw people like Leonard was talking about. I saw people I hadn't seen in years there.
00:21:05 --> 00:21:10 And, you know, and it's good that people travel because that's the key to these
00:21:10 --> 00:21:14 type of events, getting people to come out of their comfort zone and to come
00:21:14 --> 00:21:18 to an event like this in a place called Houston, Delaware.
00:21:19 --> 00:21:25 You know what I mean? So that just tells you about the mass appeal of the events
00:21:25 --> 00:21:30 that you do, Sam, and the fact that people always have a good time when they go to these events.
00:21:31 --> 00:21:38 Now, I know to be able to do these type of events, it takes a lot of planning.
00:21:38 --> 00:21:43 It takes a lot of coordinating. So how, like when,
00:21:43 --> 00:21:49 you know, I, you know, me and Leonard kind of know, but tell the people how,
00:21:49 --> 00:21:54 when do you start planning for the, the black music festival?
00:21:55 --> 00:21:59 I mean, when, you know, what month do you start or when do you actually start
00:21:59 --> 00:22:01 planning for the next one?
00:22:03 --> 00:22:08 Oh, did we lose him? Yeah. Okay. It looks like we lost him. His battery may have died.
00:22:09 --> 00:22:14 Ah, well, he might be back. He'll probably be back. Well, you know,
00:22:14 --> 00:22:16 I was asking that question in reference to that.
00:22:17 --> 00:22:22 Because I know, you know, you and I know, like, since the last one was over,
00:22:22 --> 00:22:25 he started talking about this year already, you know.
00:22:25 --> 00:22:31 So, I guess, you know, as an event planner myself, I know, you know,
00:22:31 --> 00:22:35 you have to really think far range when it comes to these events.
00:22:35 --> 00:22:39 And especially something to this magnitude and to be able to pull it off the
00:22:39 --> 00:22:46 way that he does each and every year, this is truly unbelievable, you know. Yeah.
00:22:47 --> 00:22:51 And especially to get the people to come back and want to perform.
00:22:52 --> 00:22:56 And, you know, outdoor events like last year, you know, it's kind of unpredictable
00:22:56 --> 00:22:58 with the weather. Right.
00:22:59 --> 00:23:04 And I know last year when the event started, remember, it was pouring down rain.
00:23:04 --> 00:23:08 Yeah. And people stayed. People stayed.
00:23:08 --> 00:23:12 You know, people had their tents and their canopies up and people stayed,
00:23:12 --> 00:23:14 but they still were moving around.
00:23:14 --> 00:23:18 The music was still, the bands were still playing. everybody was
00:23:18 --> 00:23:22 still dancing and everything and everybody had a good time and then when the
00:23:22 --> 00:23:29 rain stopped it was on you know so you know it rained for what till about 10
00:23:29 --> 00:23:33 30 and then yeah everything stopped the rain stopped and the rest of the day
00:23:33 --> 00:23:36 was dry and it was you know it's funny because.
00:23:37 --> 00:23:40 The weather dried up the ground pretty quickly too
00:23:40 --> 00:23:43 that was another thing too so okay i'm
00:23:43 --> 00:23:46 back guy oh there you are okay uh he the man
00:23:46 --> 00:23:49 returns okay i know
00:23:49 --> 00:23:52 you didn't get a chance to hear the question i was asking so i
00:23:52 --> 00:23:56 was asking with the event of the size you
00:23:56 --> 00:23:59 know when do you start planning for the
00:23:59 --> 00:24:02 the next one you know so i have that last year
00:24:02 --> 00:24:05 i know when last year's event ended you were
00:24:05 --> 00:24:08 already in you know in the mix like you said
00:24:08 --> 00:24:11 you know the all girls group you know you already pretty
00:24:11 --> 00:24:14 much said okay we'll see you next year you know start doing you
00:24:14 --> 00:24:17 know you already knew you were going to have back and tony
00:24:17 --> 00:24:21 smith has been at you know each and every one best kept soul has been there
00:24:21 --> 00:24:28 so what when do you start planning for the next year event and how long does
00:24:28 --> 00:24:30 it take to get everything together
00:24:30 --> 00:24:36 well you know that the first year is always you know a trial and air.
00:24:37 --> 00:24:44 Second year, you kind of, you know, you know what went wrong and what went right the first year.
00:24:44 --> 00:24:47 And so you tweak things.
00:24:48 --> 00:24:55 This third year, we're kind of on smooth sailing ground.
00:24:55 --> 00:25:00 You know, we actually start planning in December because, you know,
00:25:01 --> 00:25:07 we want to keep the local flavor with entertainment, the best local entertainment.
00:25:08 --> 00:25:13 But we also want to bring on a high caliber name group.
00:25:14 --> 00:25:17 And you have to book those early. The good ones you have to book early.
00:25:18 --> 00:25:23 So, so, so I'm looking, you know, all the time, you know,
00:25:24 --> 00:25:32 when, when this event is over, I'll start hitting many of the festivals for
00:25:32 --> 00:25:34 the summer, looking at entertainment.
00:25:34 --> 00:25:37 And then around November,
00:25:38 --> 00:25:44 December, I will solidify who I really want that to be and restart reaching
00:25:44 --> 00:25:50 out to them, you know, to see if they're available on my date. Okay. Okay.
00:25:52 --> 00:25:58 One of the things that people look forward to also, I know you usually have
00:25:58 --> 00:26:00 food vendors and everything.
00:26:00 --> 00:26:03 Do you have a bunch of vendors this year? Right.
00:26:04 --> 00:26:08 Yes, we do. More than we've ever had. Okay.
00:26:09 --> 00:26:16 But we have some of our mainstays as well. You know, we have Vernon Dupree with his fish truck. Yeah.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:25 He's been there both previous years. We have Kimberly Batson Purnell from down in Sussex County.
00:26:26 --> 00:26:34 She's back with her truck. but we added we had a gentleman from Salisbury,
00:26:35 --> 00:26:45 Merlin Hilton White he does like smoked briskets and pork and barbecue and that kind of stuff,
00:26:46 --> 00:26:52 so we've added him of course we have a dessert lady that have some delicious
00:26:52 --> 00:26:59 desserts and one or two other small people doing some little things
00:26:59 --> 00:27:06 But those four are our mainstays, you know, as far as the food vendors.
00:27:06 --> 00:27:08 And, of course, three of them are returnees.
00:27:09 --> 00:27:13 One is Hilton. It's pretty new. It's new to us.
00:27:14 --> 00:27:18 I think his truck is called La Daisy, I want to say.
00:27:20 --> 00:27:26 I've heard some good things about his food truck. And we feel fortunate that
00:27:26 --> 00:27:29 he was available to come out for this.
00:27:31 --> 00:27:37 What I didn't tell you is that we have, in addition to Tim Dawg and DJ Dave
00:27:37 --> 00:27:44 Milton, we've added a third DJ, which is DJ Philly Phil from Dover,
00:27:45 --> 00:27:51 which rounds out our DJs from all three counties here in Delaware.
00:27:52 --> 00:27:59 And DJ Philly Phil is a Dover staple, and he's played for years,
00:27:59 --> 00:28:05 well-known, and do a great job, just like Tim Dogg and Dave Hart.
00:28:06 --> 00:28:10 Okay. All right. And I guess you got a couple.
00:28:10 --> 00:28:14 I know last year I noticed a few line dance groups there. And,
00:28:14 --> 00:28:17 you know, they come out in their colors and they've been getting it in out there.
00:28:17 --> 00:28:22 So, you know, I'm sure that we'll see a few line dance groups there too, right?
00:28:23 --> 00:28:32 Absolutely. You know, we have Bernadette Burnett, Ashley Cook from down in Sussex
00:28:32 --> 00:28:37 County, Devontae Norah here in Wilmington.
00:28:37 --> 00:28:46 And I mean, those three people are some of the top line dance instructors here on the East Coast.
00:28:47 --> 00:28:53 And between the three of them, I just turned everything over to them and said,
00:28:53 --> 00:28:55 look, you're the experts.
00:28:56 --> 00:29:02 We have the facilities. This is yours. Put it together.
00:29:02 --> 00:29:08 And if you have any questions or concerns for me, bring them to me.
00:29:08 --> 00:29:15 We'll work them out. And they've done a fantastic job at coordinating this line
00:29:15 --> 00:29:19 dance jamboree that's going to take place simultaneously.
00:29:20 --> 00:29:26 And we have people coming from the region to line dance with us.
00:29:26 --> 00:29:31 And we will line dance indoor and outdoor.
00:29:32 --> 00:29:37 We'll do both well that's going to be interesting because this is the first
00:29:37 --> 00:29:41 year that you guys have done that have the line dancing going on on the inside
00:29:41 --> 00:29:47 simultaneously and right now line dancing is so popular and of course you know
00:29:47 --> 00:29:50 you got the southern soul with the.
00:29:52 --> 00:29:59 Trail ride line dancing so I'm sure they'll be outside doing that you know so yeah,
00:29:59 --> 00:30:06 You know, we plan to be outside jointly when the festival ends.
00:30:07 --> 00:30:18 Between the time that the festival ends outside and between that time and the after party starting,
00:30:18 --> 00:30:24 we will have the sound guys still out there and we will do some line dancing outside as well.
00:30:25 --> 00:30:28 Okay. All right. Okay. Yeah.
00:30:28 --> 00:30:37 Well, folks, I don't understand if you don't want to be at an event like this,
00:30:37 --> 00:30:40 because this event is getting bigger and bigger every year.
00:30:40 --> 00:30:44 I know I saw your little post on Facebook the other day. I was smiling.
00:30:44 --> 00:30:47 Thank you for saying that, what you said, by the way.
00:30:49 --> 00:30:53 Yeah, you know, you got to tell the truth. Yeah, that's right.
00:30:53 --> 00:30:57 You got to tell the truth. Like the old folks say, shame the devil,
00:30:57 --> 00:30:59 right? You know, so, yeah.
00:30:59 --> 00:31:08 So, but yeah, we, you know, we will go spend $100 at the Roots Picnic or these
00:31:08 --> 00:31:11 other big events outside of here, Capitol Jazz Festival.
00:31:11 --> 00:31:16 We'll take a ride all the way down to the Maryland area, D.C.
00:31:17 --> 00:31:20 Area to go to the Capitol Jazz Festival and all these different places.
00:31:21 --> 00:31:24 We have something right here that gets bigger and bigger every year.
00:31:25 --> 00:31:30 And you guys, you know, and we have a lot of people that show up to this event
00:31:30 --> 00:31:31 that come from other places.
00:31:32 --> 00:31:34 I mean, what was the furthest last year?
00:31:35 --> 00:31:39 We have people. We had someone that drove up from Florida last year.
00:31:40 --> 00:31:41 Yeah, that's right. I remember hearing that.
00:31:41 --> 00:31:46 This year we have two or three people
00:31:46 --> 00:31:50 that have RVs that's coming up from Savannah, Georgia. There you go.
00:31:51 --> 00:31:56 Yeah. There you go. These people, you know, if they can commit...
00:31:57 --> 00:32:05 To drive that four, I mean, I don't know why people right here is saying that,
00:32:05 --> 00:32:08 oh, that's two four to go to go all the way down there.
00:32:09 --> 00:32:11 Delaware is only 99 miles long.
00:32:13 --> 00:32:19 99 miles. No, it's not that. There's nowhere in Delaware that should be two four for anyone to go.
00:32:20 --> 00:32:23 Yeah, I know. And Sam, you know, I want to throw it in, too.
00:32:24 --> 00:32:29 There's some people from close by who are not only coming to the music fest,
00:32:29 --> 00:32:33 they're bringing their campers out here and they're staying the weekend, you know? Yeah.
00:32:34 --> 00:32:37 I mean, we have people bringing campers and they live...
00:32:39 --> 00:32:42 Live right across the line in maryland yeah but they're
00:32:42 --> 00:32:45 bringing their camper to the camp right yeah yeah
00:32:45 --> 00:32:49 yeah this is you know for for
00:32:49 --> 00:32:52 event like this and the habit
00:32:52 --> 00:32:56 in a place where like the gnr campground
00:32:56 --> 00:32:58 which you know i mean
00:32:58 --> 00:33:01 it's black home you know
00:33:01 --> 00:33:04 it's and and and it's not and i'm not
00:33:04 --> 00:33:07 gonna say you go you go to this event is only
00:33:07 --> 00:33:10 you want to only see us because there's other folks there too
00:33:10 --> 00:33:13 there's definitely other folks there too because they like they
00:33:13 --> 00:33:18 like they like to have a good time too you know what i mean so but but you know
00:33:18 --> 00:33:24 to see everybody come to an event like this have a good time nobody get rowdy
00:33:24 --> 00:33:29 you know everybody just you know people talking to each other.
00:33:29 --> 00:33:31 We don't talk to each other anymore.
00:33:31 --> 00:33:36 You know, everybody, because of, because of the social media and,
00:33:37 --> 00:33:42 and electronics and everything, we don't have those verbal conversations anymore.
00:33:42 --> 00:33:47 But at this event, that's all you see all day long is people talking to each
00:33:47 --> 00:33:49 other and having a good time with each other.
00:33:50 --> 00:33:56 And, you know, you know, it's, it's, so it's no reason for you guys not to come
00:33:56 --> 00:33:59 out to this event and support it.
00:33:59 --> 00:34:08 You know, we look forward to it every year and hopefully it continues on forever, you know.
00:34:08 --> 00:34:14 But we're hoping that you guys are able to come out and support what Mr.
00:34:14 --> 00:34:19 Bailey has put together, him and his crew, and, you know, as far as coming down
00:34:19 --> 00:34:22 to the DNR campground owned by Mr.
00:34:22 --> 00:34:25 Leonard Young and his wife and just support it.
00:34:26 --> 00:34:29 And support everything that's going on that particular day. Dave,
00:34:29 --> 00:34:30 let me say this one thing.
00:34:30 --> 00:34:34 Yeah. Well, we as a community...
00:34:36 --> 00:34:40 Are very quick to spend our money with people that don't look like us.
00:34:40 --> 00:34:42 Yes, yes. But let me tell you something.
00:34:43 --> 00:34:50 This event, every dollar that's changing hands is changing in the black hands.
00:34:51 --> 00:35:00 Let me repeat that. Every dollar that's changing hands is changing hands to another black hand.
00:35:00 --> 00:35:03 Very important. Very important, folks.
00:35:03 --> 00:35:10 There's only one exception. I couldn't find anyone that looked like me that
00:35:10 --> 00:35:12 was in the port-a-potty business. Wow.
00:35:13 --> 00:35:19 But other than that, every dollar is exchanging hands back to a black hand.
00:35:21 --> 00:35:26 How many events that's run by us is like that?
00:35:27 --> 00:35:30 Not many. Not many. Not many.
00:35:31 --> 00:35:35 Matter of fact, on tonight's show, later on, I'll be talking about an event
00:35:35 --> 00:35:37 that's not like this one.
00:35:38 --> 00:35:43 And for a particular reason, I'm going to talk about it.
00:35:43 --> 00:35:48 So, you know, it's a great event.
00:35:48 --> 00:35:53 So, Sam, before I know you have to jump off, but before you go,
00:35:53 --> 00:35:59 why don't you give the ticket information and everything again and contact information
00:35:59 --> 00:36:04 so that people can't say they didn't hear it because we've given it to you a
00:36:04 --> 00:36:05 couple of times on this show.
00:36:06 --> 00:36:10 Okay, here we go. Visit our website.
00:36:10 --> 00:36:15 Our website has plenty of information about all of our events,
00:36:15 --> 00:36:22 which is www.womantonsgents.com.
00:36:22 --> 00:36:35 That is www.w-i-l-m-i-n-g-t-o-n-s-g-e-n-t-s.com.

00:37:02 --> 00:37:07 I can give you the Eventbrite information. If you can't get to the website for
00:37:07 --> 00:37:12 some reason, I can give you Cash App and Zelle information.
00:37:12 --> 00:37:18 But call me. Again, 302-743-3417.
00:37:20 --> 00:37:20 All right?
00:37:22 --> 00:37:27 And for a backup, you can always reach out to me, Leonard, or Tim.
00:37:27 --> 00:37:28 We'll make sure you get to the right place.
00:37:29 --> 00:37:32 You know, so definitely winch, Sean.
00:37:32 --> 00:37:39 And if you're near the campground, Leonard has tickets right there at the campground. There you go.
00:37:40 --> 00:37:44 At the campground, any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
00:37:44 --> 00:37:49 On the days leading up to it, and someone will be in the office to sell you your tickets.
00:37:50 --> 00:37:55 There you go. And if you can't make it down, you can call the office and buy
00:37:55 --> 00:37:57 them over the phone and we'll hold them for you.
00:37:57 --> 00:38:03 Okay. All right. There you go. All right. So you have, you hear that, folks?
00:38:05 --> 00:38:09 It's there. Everything is thought of. They thought of everything for you.
00:38:10 --> 00:38:14 So we used to, let me say, what number are we looking for this year?
00:38:16 --> 00:38:22 As much as we, as many as. We want to fill every space with a body.
00:38:22 --> 00:38:27 Okay, there we go. All right, all right. You hear that? So, come on, folks.
00:38:27 --> 00:38:30 I know I'll be looking forward to see some people this weekend.
00:38:30 --> 00:38:36 I know Leonard and Sam and his crew, everybody's looking to see you guys this
00:38:36 --> 00:38:39 weekend. Let's make some new friends.
00:38:40 --> 00:38:44 Did we mention the weather forecast for Saturday? Not yet.
00:38:44 --> 00:38:49 Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. Last I checked, we're looking at anywhere from
00:38:49 --> 00:38:52 87 to 90 degrees, nothing but sunshine.
00:38:52 --> 00:39:00 And the blessing that goes with that is that we have 50-year-old trees on the
00:39:00 --> 00:39:03 property that's providing plenty of shade.
00:39:04 --> 00:39:09 So nobody is setting in the hot sun like we do at so many other festivals.
00:39:09 --> 00:39:16 Yeah our party festival course will be in the shade.
00:39:19 --> 00:39:23 And these trees are big trees. There ain't no little trees, folks.
00:39:24 --> 00:39:28 Plenty of foliage. Yeah, that's right. Plane has really produced good foliage
00:39:28 --> 00:39:31 on the trees. Yeah, yeah.
00:39:33 --> 00:39:37 So there you have it. Everything's been thought of. So, you know,
00:39:37 --> 00:39:40 so we're looking forward to seeing everybody on Saturday.
00:39:41 --> 00:39:43 How about Friday night? Let's start out with Friday.
00:39:43 --> 00:39:48 Yeah, let's start out with Friday. The whole weekend. don't be late yeah there
00:39:48 --> 00:39:53 you go the whole weekend we're looking to see people there so all right,
00:39:54 --> 00:39:59 all right mr bailey we appreciate you taking the time to come and hang out with
00:39:59 --> 00:40:03 us little people we always appreciate it you know and we should to hang out
00:40:03 --> 00:40:05 that's little people to hang out.
00:40:08 --> 00:40:14 All right well we'll see you well i know i'll see you on saturday on leonard
00:40:14 --> 00:40:16 probably see you before then, but I'll see you on Saturday.
00:40:16 --> 00:40:21 All right. Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate it.
00:40:21 --> 00:40:24 Well, we always appreciate when you come on, sir. All right.
00:40:25 --> 00:40:29 Thank you. All right. Good night. Good night.
00:40:30 --> 00:40:34 All right, there you have it, folks. That's everything you need to know about
00:40:34 --> 00:40:36 the Black Music Festival for this weekend.
00:40:37 --> 00:40:38 You just heard it from the man himself.
00:40:39 --> 00:40:45 So hopefully we'll be able to see everybody. And you guys who haven't met Sam
00:40:45 --> 00:40:46 yet will get a chance to meet him that day.
00:40:47 --> 00:40:51 All right, we're going to go ahead and move into the rest of our show.
00:40:52 --> 00:40:53 You ready, Leonard? I am.
00:40:54 --> 00:40:59 Okay. So I just kind of mentioned, teased a little bit about another event that's
00:40:59 --> 00:41:04 going on that is not, you know, going to have black dollars. Okay.
00:41:06 --> 00:41:08 And, you know, but they're trying
00:41:08 --> 00:41:12 to get black entertainers to participate in it. You feel me on this?
00:41:13 --> 00:41:20 So there's an event coming up the black artists are pulling out of for the Trump
00:41:20 --> 00:41:24 Freedom 250 year anniversary concert.
00:41:24 --> 00:41:30 So, this was the lineup that was announced for this event, which is being called
00:41:30 --> 00:41:32 the Great American State Fair.
00:41:33 --> 00:41:38 Martina McBride, Young MC, and his one big hit. Oh, the Trump?
00:41:39 --> 00:41:43 Yeah, this is the Trump event. The 250, yeah.
00:41:44 --> 00:41:52 C&C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, which is interesting since one of them is dead.
00:41:54 --> 00:42:02 The Commodores, Mars Day in the Time, Flo Rida, Bret Michaels,
00:42:02 --> 00:42:04 and many, many more, it says.
00:42:05 --> 00:42:08 Okay. So, hold on. How do you have all those black people, and then they have
00:42:08 --> 00:42:10 Bret Michaels, and then it says many, many more? I know.
00:42:11 --> 00:42:16 Yeah, I know. I know. I know. But it gets more interesting because,
00:42:16 --> 00:42:18 you know, right after...
00:42:20 --> 00:42:26 After all of this announcement was made about who was going to be performing,
00:42:27 --> 00:42:32 young MC comes out and says, I have informed my agent that I will not be performing
00:42:32 --> 00:42:36 at the Freedom 250-year event.
00:42:37 --> 00:42:42 It says, the artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.
00:42:43 --> 00:42:48 And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is nonpartisan,
00:42:48 --> 00:42:58 Spin Magazine describes it as a Trump-barked, I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future.
00:42:58 --> 00:43:01 I'm sorry. Let me go back.
00:43:01 --> 00:43:05 Spin Magazine described it as Trump-backed. I'm sorry.
00:43:06 --> 00:43:11 And then he goes on to say, I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at
00:43:11 --> 00:43:14 an event that it's not politically charged.
00:43:15 --> 00:43:20 And that's what he said. And then right after that, Mars Day said that he wasn't
00:43:20 --> 00:43:22 going to perform as well.
00:43:22 --> 00:43:26 So it says a lot of these acts wasn't told what the event was for.
00:43:26 --> 00:43:29 They were just talking about that they were going to have a big event,
00:43:29 --> 00:43:32 you know, for artists to come out and perform.
00:43:32 --> 00:43:37 And since a lot of these artists are former big stars back in the day,
00:43:38 --> 00:43:42 of course, you know, a chance for them to come out and perform in front of a
00:43:42 --> 00:43:45 large crowd. Of course, a lot of them are going to say, yeah, you know, to this.
00:43:46 --> 00:43:53 The music lineup for the Donald Trump Act Freedom 250 Great American State Fair on National Mall in D.C.
00:43:53 --> 00:43:58 Features a heavy focus on the 90s pop and hip hop country and funk.
00:43:58 --> 00:44:05 The 16-day National Exposition, running from June 25th to July 10th,
00:44:05 --> 00:44:08 features the following acts, and then they go over the acts again.
00:44:09 --> 00:44:17 And then they said Freedom 250 is a large-scale, federally-supported public-private
00:44:17 --> 00:44:20 initiative commemorating America's 250th birthday.
00:44:20 --> 00:44:26 The project, strongly backed by Donald Trump and launched through an executive
00:44:26 --> 00:44:28 action earlier this year,
00:44:28 --> 00:44:36 works alongside the White House Task Force 250 to organize nationwide celebrations.
00:44:37 --> 00:44:46 Traveling museums exhibitions, and patriotic events marking the country's semi-quicentennial anniversary.
00:44:47 --> 00:44:53 According to the White House website, Young MC also explained that despite the
00:44:53 --> 00:44:56 claims by the organizer that the event was nonpartisan,
00:44:56 --> 00:45:02 the Spit magazine described it as otherwise, which further influenced the decision
00:45:02 --> 00:45:05 to step away from the Freedom 250 festival.
00:45:05 --> 00:45:09 He added, I hope to perform in D.C., like he said earlier.
00:45:10 --> 00:45:16 He said he is a hip-hop star who, and the announcement came shortly after.
00:45:17 --> 00:45:25 Jungle Love hit maker Mars Day announced that he would not perform at the Great
00:45:25 --> 00:45:27 American State Fair either.
00:45:28 --> 00:45:31 Contrary to rumors, Mars Day and the time will not be performing.
00:45:31 --> 00:45:35 This came from his website at the Great American State Fair.
00:45:36 --> 00:45:44 A picture posted to his account on Wednesday read, It's a no for me, he added in the caption.
00:45:44 --> 00:45:50 Freedom Williams, the leader of C&C Music Factory, criticized fans for trying
00:45:50 --> 00:45:56 to cancel him after his name was revealed on the Freedom 250 festival lineup.
00:45:57 --> 00:46:03 Meanwhile, another artist announced for the festival on Wednesday morning,
00:46:03 --> 00:46:07 he was another artist that was announced, C&C Music Factory,
00:46:07 --> 00:46:13 Trumpman, Freedom Williams, shared an expletive-filled eight-minute video addressing
00:46:13 --> 00:46:15 the controversy surrounding the event.
00:46:15 --> 00:46:20 In the heated message, Williams initially revealed that he had considered pulling
00:46:20 --> 00:46:24 out of the performance after discovering Trump's connection to the festival.
00:46:25 --> 00:46:30 However, he later reversed course, suggesting that the CSE Music Factory could
00:46:30 --> 00:46:37 still take the stage to prove he didn't care about criticism for the fans or
00:46:37 --> 00:46:41 pressures from online commentators telling him what to do.
00:46:44 --> 00:46:51 These people who, you know, were big 90s stars, like C&C Music Factory,
00:46:51 --> 00:46:58 thank God, I can't see Mars Day performing under that type of scrutiny.
00:46:59 --> 00:47:03 But some of these other ones that might perform, like Flo Rida and some of these
00:47:03 --> 00:47:09 other ones, I can see Vanilla Ice doing it, but Flo Rida, he definitely could
00:47:09 --> 00:47:11 get hurt if he performs. Yeah.
00:47:12 --> 00:47:15 Would you take the chance of performing?
00:47:16 --> 00:47:20 I mean, you know, I'm sure they're throwing some nice money at these people.
00:47:20 --> 00:47:28 But would you take a chance and go for the money or get canceled?
00:47:29 --> 00:47:33 I feel like, to be honest, it all depends on the money. I mean,
00:47:33 --> 00:47:36 yeah, it all depends on the money. It's all about the money, huh?
00:47:36 --> 00:47:40 Maybe. But, I mean, principally, I mean, of course, principally,
00:47:40 --> 00:47:41 you know, we'd all say no.
00:47:42 --> 00:47:45 But, you know, is there a amount and, you know, I think it's hard because we
00:47:45 --> 00:47:49 don't know, you know, these are some of these old school rappers may be struggling,
00:47:49 --> 00:47:51 paying their bills, getting less.
00:47:52 --> 00:47:57 So it's like, you know, it's not, you know, why?
00:47:57 --> 00:48:01 Why do we have to make it seem like when they do it, they're selling out instead
00:48:01 --> 00:48:07 of, you know, they they're hustling Donald Trump. You know, I mean,
00:48:07 --> 00:48:08 you know, something like that.
00:48:09 --> 00:48:14 Like, I don't know. Well, I guess my thinking on this, I mean,
00:48:14 --> 00:48:18 yeah, if you're a person that, you know, your time definitely has passed,
00:48:18 --> 00:48:20 but, you know, you got a few hits.
00:48:20 --> 00:48:25 I know, like, one of the scenes in the, you know, always got to bring a movie
00:48:25 --> 00:48:30 up, but one of the scenes in the Temptation movie that everybody loves so much
00:48:30 --> 00:48:32 that Leonard probably hasn't seen.
00:48:32 --> 00:48:35 There's a scene in there when they show
00:48:35 --> 00:48:39 them when the two main temptations melvin
00:48:39 --> 00:48:42 and who who been with the group the
00:48:42 --> 00:48:49 longest melvin and otis whose otis is the only original temptation still living
00:48:49 --> 00:48:56 talk about they had brought in all of these new guys to replace other temptations
00:48:56 --> 00:49:00 and they were doing a get ready to do a show and you hear,
00:49:00 --> 00:49:07 Melvin say man we only filled half the house tonight meaning you know that there
00:49:07 --> 00:49:10 was only a few people in the place where they were playing.
00:49:11 --> 00:49:15 But you hear Otis say yeah that's true but yeah,
00:49:16 --> 00:49:19 they still deserve a good show and we're
00:49:19 --> 00:49:22 getting paid and we're getting paid regardless of
00:49:22 --> 00:49:25 who's out there so that you
00:49:25 --> 00:49:28 know and so you might have a lot of people especially these
00:49:28 --> 00:49:33 older acts who are probably thinking the same thing hey it's money now we don't
00:49:33 --> 00:49:38 have to say that we politically agree with him you know we can just go out there
00:49:38 --> 00:49:44 do our songs and get off the stage and you probably We have some people that's
00:49:44 --> 00:49:46 there to do exactly that, get paid, get their money,
00:49:47 --> 00:49:49 do their songs, and get off the stage, you know.
00:49:50 --> 00:49:55 But Trump, what happens, though, is Trump usually turns this into a look at
00:49:55 --> 00:49:58 me, I got these people here thing.
00:49:59 --> 00:50:05 And he kind of ties himself to these people, which causes the cancellation of them. Right.
00:50:06 --> 00:50:10 That's the thing you got to worry about, especially if you're a black artist,
00:50:10 --> 00:50:15 when you're doing an event like this, because it could come back to haunt you.
00:50:15 --> 00:50:19 Now, Mars Day, somebody like that, and the time, they're always going to work.
00:50:19 --> 00:50:24 You know, they've got, them guys have always worked. But a young MC,
00:50:25 --> 00:50:28 when's the last time you saw him on any show or doing anything?
00:50:29 --> 00:50:32 You know, most people don't even know who he is. No.
00:50:32 --> 00:50:37 Yeah. Do you know who he is? No, I mean, I never heard his song,
00:50:37 --> 00:50:40 Bust the Move, before. You never heard Bust the Move?
00:50:41 --> 00:50:45 Dave, that was a joke. Of course, I know who he is. Oh, I was going to say. Oh, I was going to say.
00:50:45 --> 00:50:50 And, of course, you know who C&C Music Factory is, right? Yeah, yeah. Okay, yeah.
00:50:51 --> 00:50:54 And back during their time, they had big songs. But, you know,
00:50:54 --> 00:50:57 but it's going to be interesting who actually performs.
00:50:58 --> 00:51:02 I mean, I know, I see what he's trying to do. He's trying to get a mixture of
00:51:02 --> 00:51:05 acts. Of course, he could have put all the other folks in there,
00:51:05 --> 00:51:09 but, you know, of course, he could talk about it. He does that, you know.
00:51:10 --> 00:51:14 So when you look at this type of event and, you know, big event,
00:51:14 --> 00:51:16 you know, we just had the Roots picnic this weekend.
00:51:17 --> 00:51:23 You know, and man, people everywhere. I mean, you know, but they did.
00:51:23 --> 00:51:28 And then they bring Jay-Z out and Jay-Z comes out and he's got his hair out,
00:51:28 --> 00:51:34 you know, and comes out and performs and kills it on stage and then diss everybody.
00:51:34 --> 00:51:36 I mean, it was crazy, you know.
00:51:38 --> 00:51:41 But that's another thing, too, because, you know, you got to go to the concert
00:51:41 --> 00:51:43 because you see everything, you know.
00:51:43 --> 00:51:49 So, but, you know, it was, you know, now that, you know,
00:51:50 --> 00:51:53 that type of concert and, you know, keep in mind, he had Berger Badu,
00:51:54 --> 00:51:57 he had, he had Brandy there, you know, I mean, you know, the roots,
00:51:57 --> 00:51:59 roots get everybody. Yeah, they do.
00:52:00 --> 00:52:04 Yeah, they do. So, but it's a funny thing about that.
00:52:04 --> 00:52:08 And we're just talking about people going to events and paying money and money for certain events.
00:52:09 --> 00:52:14 I was seeing something that said that some people waited in line.
00:52:14 --> 00:52:15 Like I said, a couple of different interests.
00:52:15 --> 00:52:22 They waited in line up to two and a half, three hours. Like that's how long the line was to get in.
00:52:22 --> 00:52:27 Yeah. Remember last year that they started late last year and them people.
00:52:28 --> 00:52:31 Yeah. Remember that whole thing last year that happened right there?
00:52:31 --> 00:52:32 I do, man, I do. Yeah, yeah.
00:52:33 --> 00:52:38 So, but that's how many people are trying to get it, and they're paying whatever the price is.
00:52:38 --> 00:52:43 One dude said that there was these guys charging like $300 to get through the
00:52:43 --> 00:52:46 gate, and people was paying it. Yeah, I'm sure.
00:52:47 --> 00:52:53 And we're talking about $50 tickets and $75 tickets here? Mm-hmm. Yeah, so...
00:52:55 --> 00:52:58 Guess we'll see what happens with this 250 festival well
00:52:58 --> 00:53:02 let me ask this if you were an old artist is there
00:53:02 --> 00:53:05 any amount of money that would entice you
00:53:05 --> 00:53:08 to say well you know what i think you know the answer to
00:53:08 --> 00:53:16 that yeah look look my whole thing my whole thing is this if the money was really
00:53:16 --> 00:53:21 really really good it'd be hard to turn it down yeah but i would turn i would
00:53:21 --> 00:53:26 i would accepted with parameters saying I'm not talking about Donald Trump.
00:53:27 --> 00:53:30 I'm going up and perform and I'm getting off the stage.
00:53:30 --> 00:53:34 And the show is only going to be about what I came there to do, which is perform.
00:53:34 --> 00:53:39 But of course, you're still going to get called a sellout.
00:53:39 --> 00:53:41 You know.
00:53:42 --> 00:53:45 But yeah, it's hard to turn out money these days, you know what I'm saying?
00:53:45 --> 00:53:49 Price with gas and eggs. Yeah, that's right. Everything is expensive nowadays.
00:53:51 --> 00:53:55 But I would have a problem if you're a person that goes up there and allows
00:53:55 --> 00:53:59 him to do what he does all the time and makes it seem like y'all are buddies
00:53:59 --> 00:54:02 and all of this kind of stuff and that you did this event for him.
00:54:03 --> 00:54:04 Then that's a problem right there.
00:54:07 --> 00:54:10 You guys let us know what you think about that because I'm sure we're going
00:54:10 --> 00:54:15 to hear a lot over the next, you know, until this event is done with.
00:54:15 --> 00:54:17 And keep in mind, this goes on for 16 days.
00:54:18 --> 00:54:21 Yeah. So just keep that in mind Alright,
00:54:22 --> 00:54:28 I'm going to move on to the next subject real quick This is something that I
00:54:28 --> 00:54:34 saw that made me laugh Because it makes me think about you Trying to think you
00:54:34 --> 00:54:37 know how to play spades or something Oh really?
00:54:38 --> 00:54:39 Are we going here?
00:54:40 --> 00:54:42 Are we going here?
00:54:43 --> 00:54:48 So, spades, the card game no executive order can touch Now.
00:54:50 --> 00:54:53 Of all, just that title tells us it says a lot. How do you have an executive
00:54:53 --> 00:54:56 order? It's fades at the same title. You know what I mean? So, you know.
00:54:57 --> 00:55:03 But this says, Mel Allen hadn't played spades in years. Then her sister called.
00:55:03 --> 00:55:08 She was like, there's a tournament in Brooklyn, and you're going to sign up
00:55:08 --> 00:55:11 for it, and you can't say no. She recalled.
00:55:12 --> 00:55:17 Allen, the first learned, who first learned of the game at a lunch table in
00:55:17 --> 00:55:24 high school, knew exactly what was at stake at the table, socially at least.
00:55:25 --> 00:55:29 It was like you were not cool if you did not know how to play spades,
00:55:29 --> 00:55:32 she said. Facts. It was necessary.
00:55:32 --> 00:55:37 I just had this conversation with some... I just had this conversation with
00:55:37 --> 00:55:40 some people at my job who do not know how to play spades, and they are Black.
00:55:41 --> 00:55:45 Okay. So, you know, I know how this conversation went. Dave called... Okay.
00:55:45 --> 00:55:49 Dave called... It was like you had to know. Call them out by name. And you had to be good.
00:55:50 --> 00:55:54 Call them out by name. Last week, Allen was one of a room full of...
00:55:55 --> 00:56:01 Call them out by name. Oh, no, no, I'm talking about my co-workers anymore.
00:56:02 --> 00:56:07 But they know who they are. They know exactly who they are because it's embarrassing.
00:56:07 --> 00:56:11 And there was one white person in the room who said, oh, man,
00:56:11 --> 00:56:13 I play all the time. Oh, man.
00:56:15 --> 00:56:19 So, you know, we can't let, you know, that's a whole nother story. But anyway.
00:56:22 --> 00:56:28 Last week, Alan was one of the roomful of players who gathered at Aunts and
00:56:28 --> 00:56:31 Uncles, a black-owned vegan restaurant in Brooklyn.
00:56:31 --> 00:56:34 That sounds good, man. I bet you that. Yeah.
00:56:34 --> 00:56:42 For the lunchroom, the space tournament funneled competitors through a digital qualifier.
00:56:42 --> 00:56:46 Man, I can only imagine how that goes, man.
00:56:49 --> 00:56:56 On the Trickster card app before bringing the top 16 to a live championship
00:56:56 --> 00:56:57 night filled with music, food,
00:56:57 --> 00:57:03 and the kind of energy many in the Black community have known for years.
00:57:03 --> 00:57:07 Everybody that you know that's Black pretty much has played spades.
00:57:08 --> 00:57:15 They know about spades, said Yontice Jenkins, a member of a card club, the DMV Cartel.
00:57:16 --> 00:57:23 Who traveled to support the event. It's at my family reunion.
00:57:23 --> 00:57:25 It's at the cookouts.
00:57:25 --> 00:57:30 Thanksgiving after everyone eats dinner and cleans up, there's somebody pulling
00:57:30 --> 00:57:32 out a deck of cards to play spades.
00:57:33 --> 00:57:37 The cultural tradition is exactly what the lunchroom was designed to honor,
00:57:38 --> 00:57:42 especially at a moment when Black history is under attack.
00:57:42 --> 00:57:53 In January 2025, President Trump signed a sweeping executive order dismantling diversity,
00:57:54 --> 00:57:58 equity, and inclusion programs across federal agencies and institutions.
00:57:59 --> 00:58:04 In recent years, states, including Florida, have moved to restrict or eliminate
00:58:04 --> 00:58:09 African American studies from public schools curricula. our curricula.
00:58:10 --> 00:58:13 Proposed federal budget cuts have also threatened funding.
00:58:15 --> 00:58:20 National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for Humanities,
00:58:20 --> 00:58:24 two institutions that have long supported Black cultural programming nationwide.
00:58:25 --> 00:58:31 The ongoing theme is hard to ignore. The former structure designed to protect
00:58:31 --> 00:58:36 and legitimize Black cultural lives are being dismantled one policy at a time.
00:58:37 --> 00:58:44 What no executive order touches, however, is what gets passed down at the table.
00:58:44 --> 00:58:50 It's been done for generations, and a different age group can do it, said Jenkins.
00:58:50 --> 00:58:53 I was probably eight years old when I first learned how to play.
00:58:53 --> 00:58:58 Spades was never taught in the classroom. It spread through kitchen tables,
00:58:59 --> 00:59:03 rec centers, and lunchrooms where the game stretched well past the bell.
00:59:04 --> 00:59:10 It has survived without institutional support because it never needed it.
00:59:10 --> 00:59:16 And move person-to-person, generation to generation, in the spaces where Black
00:59:16 --> 00:59:17 people have always gathered.
00:59:18 --> 00:59:24 Michael Nicholas, co-owner of Aunt and Uncle's, knows that story firsthand.
00:59:25 --> 00:59:30 Said that some classes were missed and skipped because of Spade's game.
00:59:31 --> 00:59:37 But I still, I know, but I still graduated timely. He said, hear that, mom?
00:59:38 --> 00:59:45 Right. You know, that experience is the direct inspiration behind the tournament's name.
00:59:45 --> 00:59:50 The restaurant which Nicholas owns with his wife, Nicole, regularly transformed
00:59:50 --> 00:59:55 into his own version of the lunchroom, hosting Spade games throughout the year.
00:59:55 --> 01:00:00 To Nicholas, the game has always been about more than the cards.
01:00:01 --> 01:00:06 You learn basically by sitting down, watching the family and friends gather
01:00:06 --> 01:00:08 together, he explained.
01:00:08 --> 01:00:11 So it feels like it's important for us.
01:00:11 --> 01:00:15 It's just a gathering point and a way to kind of get together,
01:00:15 --> 01:00:19 share knowledge, share space.
01:00:19 --> 01:00:22 It's beyond a pastime. It's a gathering point.
01:00:22 --> 01:00:28 Its gathering point is increasingly rare as daily life moves further online
01:00:28 --> 01:00:34 and in-person communication becomes harder to sustain,
01:00:34 --> 01:00:40 even like places like the lunchroom carry a different kind of weight.
01:00:40 --> 01:00:46 The tournament structure started starting with a digital qualifier on the Tinkster
01:00:46 --> 01:00:55 card platforms before culminating into a live event was designed to use technology
01:00:55 --> 01:00:58 as an on-ramp, not destination.
01:00:58 --> 01:01:04 The point was always to bring people together, to be in the room.
01:01:04 --> 01:01:10 Because depending on how you play and how your partner plays, you kind of like.
01:01:12 --> 01:01:16 Know how to talk to each other or without even speaking to each other.
01:01:17 --> 01:01:22 Now, see, this is the art of the game, is the communication,
01:01:22 --> 01:01:25 which is nonverbal in most cases.
01:01:26 --> 01:01:30 But you got to be able to communicate, right? Right.
01:01:31 --> 01:01:35 You can read the game. You can read the board just by the cards.
01:01:35 --> 01:01:39 The Chevy Wolf whose agency Last
01:01:39 --> 01:01:42 Wolf partnered with Trickster Cards and I and
01:01:42 --> 01:01:48 Uncle to produce the event the cultural stakes were just as clear and it said
01:01:48 --> 01:01:59 if you grew up in black culture you know Spade is in and a part of your DNA
01:01:59 --> 01:02:02 Wolf said it's just genetics.
01:02:03 --> 01:02:06 So So, I like, huh?
01:02:07 --> 01:02:12 I said he didn't lie. No, he didn't. He didn't. And I like the fact that this
01:02:12 --> 01:02:20 article took the time to tie what's going on in the world today to this game, which is,
01:02:20 --> 01:02:25 when you think about it, Leonard, it's a card game of chess.
01:02:25 --> 01:02:28 It's really chess when you think about it.
01:02:28 --> 01:02:33 Because, you know, if you ever played chess And you know anything about chess
01:02:33 --> 01:02:39 Chess is all about thinking And being one step ahead Playing this game of spades
01:02:39 --> 01:02:44 Is thinking And being one step ahead And if you get really,
01:02:44 --> 01:02:48 really good at it And you got, especially if you got a good partner.
01:02:49 --> 01:02:55 Man, you know, when you come out, when you win that game, you know,
01:02:55 --> 01:02:59 there's no better moment than winning a game of spades, you know,
01:02:59 --> 01:03:01 especially if it's a hard game, you know,
01:03:02 --> 01:03:05 you know, it's not like when you cheated when I played with you,
01:03:05 --> 01:03:08 but, but when, when you do, when you, when you go through these,
01:03:08 --> 01:03:09 just lose fair and square.
01:03:10 --> 01:03:14 Okay. All right. All right. Anyway, when you go through these games and you,
01:03:15 --> 01:03:19 and, and, and you're able to outmaneuver,
01:03:19 --> 01:03:25 outguess, the whole key is being focused because you're watching that board
01:03:25 --> 01:03:30 and you're watching those cards at that table and you're trying to remember
01:03:30 --> 01:03:32 every card that came down. Yeah.
01:03:33 --> 01:03:37 I mean, it's almost like counting cards. Yeah, it basically is.
01:03:37 --> 01:03:42 I mean, what's your thoughts on all of this?
01:03:42 --> 01:03:46 I mean, I definitely agree. I think spades is one of those things.
01:03:46 --> 01:03:50 And to be honest, I don't know if a white person made up spades or a black person,
01:03:50 --> 01:03:54 but spades is part of our culture that nobody can ever take away.
01:03:55 --> 01:03:59 You know, I've never been. Well, in fact, I barely know any white people,
01:03:59 --> 01:04:01 but I've never been to any of my white.
01:04:01 --> 01:04:05 I've never even been to like, you know, white parties, white get togethers where
01:04:05 --> 01:04:08 someone says, hey, let's play spades.
01:04:08 --> 01:04:12 Like, you know, like I just never hear that. Yeah.
01:04:13 --> 01:04:17 So, you know, I just feel like that's one thing. I don't know if we created
01:04:17 --> 01:04:24 it, but we have definitely adopted it, you know, raised it, you know, it graduated.
01:04:24 --> 01:04:27 It graduated many of us through high school, college.
01:04:28 --> 01:04:33 You know, I'm sure that many people met their wives and girlfriends during a school game.
01:04:35 --> 01:04:39 Yeah, it is one of those things that they can never take from us.
01:04:42 --> 01:04:48 We used to say that about dominoes back in the day. That was definitely a game that was played.
01:04:48 --> 01:04:53 It was an ethnic game because not only did we play it, but Hispanics played
01:04:53 --> 01:04:56 it too and so forth and so forth.
01:04:56 --> 01:05:00 But over the years, white people play it too.
01:05:01 --> 01:05:05 They've learned how to play dominoes. you know and then they could kind of took
01:05:05 --> 01:05:09 dominoes and changed it into Marjohn or something you know that's what I call
01:05:09 --> 01:05:16 it you know when I look at the Marjohn things you know but spades is something that you know,
01:05:17 --> 01:05:21 you know, it's ours. I mean, it's cultural, it's.
01:05:24 --> 01:05:27 It's basically the only game where you can get four people sitting at a table
01:05:27 --> 01:05:31 and you have a whole audience around you. Yeah, yeah.
01:05:31 --> 01:05:37 You know, you know, to see who's gonna win this game, you know, and so forth.
01:05:37 --> 01:05:41 And you can do all the talking. You can tell people to shut up.
01:05:42 --> 01:05:46 Hey, why you do that? You know, you might call people, you know,
01:05:46 --> 01:05:49 you might get into, that was a stupid move. Why'd you do that? Why'd you do that?
01:05:50 --> 01:05:54 If you read the board, you would have known I had this. I had you, you know?
01:05:55 --> 01:05:58 And then, you know, you'd be mad at each other for a moment.
01:05:58 --> 01:06:01 And then next thing you just say, okay, we're going to get them next time.
01:06:01 --> 01:06:02 You know, that type of thing.
01:06:03 --> 01:06:07 So when I saw this article, it made me think of you. It made me think of a whole
01:06:07 --> 01:06:09 bunch of people I know that play spades.
01:06:10 --> 01:06:16 And they can't, no matter what they do, they cannot take that game away from Thomas. Right, right.
01:06:17 --> 01:06:21 No, it's just going to always be there. So I just thought it was a good article.
01:06:22 --> 01:06:27 Yeah, it's ours. And, and, you know, they can try, they can try,
01:06:27 --> 01:06:29 but that's a fight right there.
01:06:29 --> 01:06:31 That's a real fight right there. You know?
01:06:32 --> 01:06:37 Yeah. So I saw that article and I know there's some people out there know exactly
01:06:37 --> 01:06:41 what me and Leonard are talking about right now because they know that that
01:06:41 --> 01:06:45 game that definitely our game and it's definitely a game that we enjoy playing.
01:06:45 --> 01:06:50 You know so some people get so into it man they can't play it you know because
01:06:50 --> 01:06:54 it gets so round up yeah so yeah so.
01:06:55 --> 01:06:59 Alright you guys give us your thoughts on that I'm sure you'll have a lot to
01:06:59 --> 01:07:04 say about that moving on to our last thing which is Leonard's favorite part
01:07:04 --> 01:07:05 of the show Dave's Corner.
01:07:07 --> 01:07:10 I wasn't sure if Sam was going to be on with this until the end,
01:07:10 --> 01:07:13 but it made me think about this particular question.
01:07:13 --> 01:07:23 It said, who do you think has made the biggest impact in the following categories in the last 25 years?
01:07:23 --> 01:07:29 And I listed four categories, and I want your thoughts on maybe one or two people
01:07:29 --> 01:07:33 for each category that made the most impact over the last 25 years.
01:07:33 --> 01:07:41 So we'll start with movies. Who do you think made the biggest impact over the last 25 years in movies?
01:07:41 --> 01:07:45 Now, keep in mind, 25 years now, you know, so that takes us back to,
01:07:46 --> 01:07:49 like, 21. I mean, 01, I mean, 2001.
01:07:49 --> 01:07:56 So right after, you know, 20, you know, year 2000 came and, you know.
01:07:57 --> 01:08:02 So what do you think has made the most impact in movies since then?
01:08:02 --> 01:08:07 So I'm going to tailor my responses to African-Americans.
01:08:07 --> 01:08:08 Okay.
01:08:09 --> 01:08:14 The biggest impact in movies, even though I'm not a super fan,
01:08:15 --> 01:08:16 I'm going to say The Rock.
01:08:16 --> 01:08:19 I feel like I really come up and he's like a major.
01:08:21 --> 01:08:24 And I'm going to say Michael B. Jordan. You know, I feel like over the years,
01:08:24 --> 01:08:31 he's played some great roles from Fruitvale Station to Creed to, is it Have Mercy to,
01:08:32 --> 01:08:38 you know, of course, Sinners to Wakanda, Black Panther.
01:08:39 --> 01:08:42 You know, so I'm going to give it to those two. Okay.
01:08:43 --> 01:08:47 All right. So that's your movies. Okay. What about music? Okay.
01:08:48 --> 01:08:51 Music so you know michael jackson died in 2009 so
01:08:51 --> 01:08:54 you know michael gotta be in there and i
01:08:54 --> 01:08:58 mean he's still impacting as we see and
01:08:58 --> 01:09:01 i might say beyonce because you know beyonce really just
01:09:01 --> 01:09:05 you know she went from group to solo and
01:09:05 --> 01:09:08 has just dominated ever since you know
01:09:08 --> 01:09:15 she won what best country artist or yeah she did yeah yeah yeah so i think beyonce
01:09:15 --> 01:09:22 has really just been dominating sell out tours you know they're definitely unstoppable
01:09:22 --> 01:09:26 okay so all right how about tv.
01:09:28 --> 01:09:31 Tv that's a hard one because are we talking
01:09:31 --> 01:09:34 about series are we talking about you can
01:09:34 --> 01:09:37 go you can go individual you can go series okay i
01:09:37 --> 01:09:40 mean it's hard because you know we have cable tv
01:09:40 --> 01:09:44 and then we have like all these series that are on streaming
01:09:44 --> 01:09:52 but we're talking about two people who have made a big impact on tv he's thinking
01:09:52 --> 01:09:59 folks they i'm almost i'm i don't have anybody well okay well if you don't have
01:09:59 --> 01:10:03 two people give me two two series that you think could make big impacts.
01:10:05 --> 01:10:07 No, you're probably going to say The Wire, but I never watched it.
01:10:08 --> 01:10:11 But you can't talk about something that you've never watched.
01:10:11 --> 01:10:13 Well, Dave, I already know what you're going to say.
01:10:15 --> 01:10:20 I may say Insecure, Insecure, and I only say that because I felt,
01:10:20 --> 01:10:23 and maybe it's just because I hear my wife talk about, but I felt like after
01:10:23 --> 01:10:25 the episodes, everybody was talking about them.
01:10:26 --> 01:10:29 And if I had to name another one, I'm trying to think of something like Everybody
01:10:29 --> 01:10:32 is Watching that made an impact.
01:10:33 --> 01:10:36 It's so hard because they you know i don't be watching a lot of tv like that,
01:10:37 --> 01:10:41 okay i'm just gonna go with insecure that that that's serious that's that's
01:10:41 --> 01:10:44 gonna be your one yeah that could be my one and my two okay,
01:10:45 --> 01:10:49 all right and what about sports the biggest impact,
01:10:50 --> 01:10:54 kind of hard because you know i'm a sport so many definitely lebron because
01:10:54 --> 01:10:59 and i mean i know you a laker man oh six but.
01:11:02 --> 01:11:10 Maybe a Simone Biles, because she's just kind of trying to think of people who have dominated.
01:11:11 --> 01:11:15 Now, if Allison Felix, if she qualified back for this Olympics,
01:11:16 --> 01:11:20 you know, then I'd probably say, you know, she, because she's dominated Olympics
01:11:20 --> 01:11:25 and retired, had a baby, came back, won medals and retired again.
01:11:25 --> 01:11:28 And if she come back again, you know, I have to give it to her.
01:11:28 --> 01:11:32 Is he talking about doing that? Yeah, yep. She said she's trying to make a comeback
01:11:32 --> 01:11:36 for 2020. You want to try to make the 28th Olympics? Yeah. Okay. All right. Okay.
01:11:37 --> 01:11:40 Yeah, I didn't know that. Okay. Oh, Usain Bolt.
01:11:40 --> 01:11:45 I mean, you know, it's kind of like unbeatable. You know, when he got in his prime.
01:11:45 --> 01:11:50 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, you know. He's just scary, man. You've just never seen
01:11:50 --> 01:11:52 anything like that. Somebody, his size.
01:11:52 --> 01:11:55 Oh, man. It was just crazy. Yeah, yeah.
01:11:55 --> 01:11:58 Okay. All right. Okay.
01:11:59 --> 01:12:02 All right. What about you, Dave? In fact, let me go back to my screen real quick.
01:12:02 --> 01:12:04 You know, I'm multitasking.
01:12:04 --> 01:12:12 Who do you think has made the biggest impact in the following categories in the last 25 years?
01:12:12 --> 01:12:15 So roughly, let's say roughly 2 to present.
01:12:16 --> 01:12:18 First category being movies.
01:12:19 --> 01:12:23 Movies, I'm going to say the Marvel Universe.
01:12:24 --> 01:12:27 They have... Well, this says who.
01:12:28 --> 01:12:35 I know. No, but I'm going to say the Marvel Universe, and the person who got
01:12:35 --> 01:12:42 it started was Iron Man and Tony Stark, and of course, Robert Downey Jr.
01:12:42 --> 01:12:45 Playing that role, because if it hadn't been for...
01:12:47 --> 01:12:54 So we had Spider-Man around already, but technically they wasn't a part of the
01:12:54 --> 01:12:56 Marvel Universe yet. Right.
01:12:57 --> 01:13:03 That Iron Man movie made it possible for all of these other movies that have
01:13:03 --> 01:13:06 come behind it. Well, go ahead.
01:13:06 --> 01:13:10 I'm going to have to debate you on that, but go ahead. Why? What's the debate?
01:13:10 --> 01:13:20 So they actually said Wesley Snipes playing Blade actually made it possible
01:13:20 --> 01:13:24 for Marvel to make the comeback. Yeah, very.
01:13:25 --> 01:13:31 Okay. Wesley's character, Blade, was definitely a big thing for Marvel.
01:13:31 --> 01:13:35 And yes, you're right about that.
01:13:35 --> 01:13:40 But it wasn't until Robert Downey put that suit on that everything changed.
01:13:40 --> 01:13:45 Right okay also i'm
01:13:45 --> 01:13:50 gonna say as far as a actor i
01:13:50 --> 01:13:53 like your michael b jordan your michael b jordan
01:13:53 --> 01:14:01 um picked there but but good but no no i'm not i'm not gonna pick him because
01:14:01 --> 01:14:05 you picked him you already picked him and i i don't disagree with that yeah
01:14:05 --> 01:14:11 yeah i'm I'm going to say somebody like Chadwick Boseman since we've been talking about Michael B.
01:14:11 --> 01:14:15 Jordan, because not only was he great at everything that he did,
01:14:16 --> 01:14:23 just the way he was taken away from us and gone too soon, but he went out on
01:14:23 --> 01:14:24 top. You know what I mean?
01:14:25 --> 01:14:30 Right. So a guy, he was very impactful. And even to this day,
01:14:30 --> 01:14:32 people just talk about him like.
01:14:34 --> 01:14:37 He was so awesome, you know what I mean?
01:14:37 --> 01:14:42 So I'm going to say, you know, out of all the people I can say,
01:14:42 --> 01:14:48 I mean, it's just the way he, when he was here, just the way he did things, you know?
01:14:48 --> 01:14:52 So that's what I'm going to say about movies.
01:14:54 --> 01:14:58 Music, I know you said Beyonce, but I'm going to say Taylor Swift. Okay.
01:14:59 --> 01:15:05 I mean, and basically those two have dominated over the last 25 years between the two of them.
01:15:06 --> 01:15:10 And I know you mentioned, of course, we talked about Michael,
01:15:10 --> 01:15:13 but we have to talk about Prince as well.
01:15:14 --> 01:15:21 So I'm going to say Prince and Taylor Swift between the four people that we named.
01:15:21 --> 01:15:27 I mean, you can't, they pretty much, and I'm going to throw one other name in there. Okay. Drake.
01:15:28 --> 01:15:33 Drake. Okay. Yeah. And I'm only saying Drake because the numbers don't lie.
01:15:35 --> 01:15:38 I mean the guy you see
01:15:38 --> 01:15:41 he tied michael jackson as far as you know
01:15:41 --> 01:15:44 some of the records that michael jackson has number ones
01:15:44 --> 01:15:51 and all of that stuff you know so you know so i i mean as much as much you may
01:15:51 --> 01:15:56 not like him but he does the numbers you know he does so that's that's my music
01:15:56 --> 01:16:04 tv contrary to your belief i mean i was a big wire fan definitely but i'm gonna say,
01:16:05 --> 01:16:15 I'm going to say The Sopranos and James Ganoff Feeney's role as Tony Soprano
01:16:15 --> 01:16:22 was one that was definitely life-changing as far as a lot of people because
01:16:22 --> 01:16:24 he was so believable in the role. Mm-hmm.
01:16:26 --> 01:16:30 Also, the Big Bang Theory. Oh, okay.
01:16:30 --> 01:16:33 And the actors on there because of the way, yeah,
01:16:33 --> 01:16:40 that was, you know, that collection of people really made it into a cultural-type
01:16:40 --> 01:16:46 thing that made, you know, you figure a bunch of nerds getting together and making it super funny.
01:16:46 --> 01:16:49 I thought it was a great show. Gotcha. Yeah, so.
01:16:50 --> 01:16:53 And I'm going to throw it as a caveat, Curb Your Enthusiasm.
01:16:54 --> 01:16:58 You know, so. I love Curve U.N.D. Yeah, that's funny.
01:16:58 --> 01:17:01 Yeah, it's a great show.
01:17:02 --> 01:17:07 Then as far as sports, I can't disagree with the people you said earlier,
01:17:07 --> 01:17:10 but I'm also going to throw in ESPN,
01:17:11 --> 01:17:18 for just taking sports to a whole new level as far as how they report it,
01:17:18 --> 01:17:22 how they have access to all of the channels and whatever.
01:17:23 --> 01:17:31 And I'm going to say Shaq, Ernie, and Barkley, that crew they are so funny.
01:17:33 --> 01:17:36 You know with the NBA stuff, you've
01:17:36 --> 01:17:40 never seen a collection of egos be
01:17:40 --> 01:17:43 able to put them together and they do get
01:17:43 --> 01:17:45 mad at each other they definitely get mad
01:17:45 --> 01:17:48 at each other but the stuff they do on there
01:17:48 --> 01:17:52 and they get away with and then you got poor Ernie that's got to keep everything
01:17:52 --> 01:17:59 together you know so you know so but i enjoy i enjoy that so those are my guys
01:17:59 --> 01:18:06 those are my guesses and and so forth so you guys that are listening i'm sure you have a lot to say so,
01:18:07 --> 01:18:11 choices you know tim always has he always makes he always hit me up and said
01:18:11 --> 01:18:15 this is what i thought and his wife doesn't say that he always hits me over
01:18:15 --> 01:18:17 his head but this is my thoughts on this
01:18:17 --> 01:18:21 is my thoughts on that you know so so give us your thoughts on these things
01:18:21 --> 01:18:27 and um and let us know i'm sure you'll have a lot to say about the things that you feel are impactful.
