00:01:17 --> 00:01:20 Hanging out with my partner, Mr. Leonard Young. What's going on, sir?
00:01:20 --> 00:01:25 Hey, Dave. All is good. This is Leonard Young, CEO of DelawareBlack.com,
00:01:26 --> 00:01:31 national black guide, black media expert, all-around good guy. How goes it?
00:01:31 --> 00:01:36 Man, I can't call it. Just trying to make it through another week, man.
00:01:37 --> 00:01:39 It's the beginning of the week. You're already ready for it to be over with
00:01:39 --> 00:01:40 already, you know what I mean?
00:01:41 --> 00:01:43 Yeah, yeah. Flying by. Yeah.
00:01:44 --> 00:01:51 I know. Last week we were out in 90-degree weather. Now we're out in 50-degree weather. It's crazy.
00:01:52 --> 00:01:56 It is really crazy. I even heard reports of snow in some places. No, where?
00:01:57 --> 00:02:03 They said it was a what they call it the nor'easter up it was up in the northern
00:02:03 --> 00:02:09 states but just the fact that there's snow after here in 90 degree weather you know that's just crazy,
00:02:10 --> 00:02:13 you know so but i mean it ain't
00:02:13 --> 00:02:16 coming this way i doubt it'd be coming this way so it's too
00:02:16 --> 00:02:19 warm to come this way yeah no that
00:02:19 --> 00:02:22 that right there is really crazy yeah that
00:02:22 --> 00:02:25 is but then we've had some crazy weather lately so it doesn't
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 matter you know it is it's exactly what
00:02:28 --> 00:02:31 it is you know that's what can you say what can
00:02:31 --> 00:02:33 you say but and i just
00:02:33 --> 00:02:36 want to say congratulations to the guests
00:02:36 --> 00:02:42 we had on last week they had their weekend this past weekend i was looking at
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 some of the videos i didn't get a chance to get down there i know you didn't
00:02:45 --> 00:02:50 but the place was packed leonard that place was back I don't know if you've
00:02:50 --> 00:02:54 ever been in the modern you've ever been in the modern majority center in Dover,
00:02:54 --> 00:03:00 I want to say yes but I don't specifically remember it yeah that place is big
00:03:00 --> 00:03:03 man that place is big that's where we've been holding our,
00:03:04 --> 00:03:08 state recognition like remember I told you we did it a couple times at the JNR
00:03:08 --> 00:03:11 campground and that place was.
00:03:12 --> 00:03:15 How big does that how many people does your whole hold,
00:03:16 --> 00:03:19 We could probably do maybe max of maybe 350.
00:03:19 --> 00:03:24 Yeah. See, this place is almost 1 people. Oh, wow. Okay.
00:03:24 --> 00:03:30 Yeah, it's big. It's big. And from the videos, they had a background in there. Yeah.
00:03:31 --> 00:03:38 But congratulations again to Robin Johnson and Marvin Bell and to the other
00:03:38 --> 00:03:42 athletes that were also inducted as well. So great job.
00:03:43 --> 00:03:45 And great job, Mark Seals. Okay.
00:03:46 --> 00:03:53 Yeah um yeah he did an awesome job getting that together so but i think we got
00:03:53 --> 00:03:58 a couple things i was talking to a couple weeks ago about this pollen man i
00:03:58 --> 00:04:00 think i i think it even messed me up,
00:04:01 --> 00:04:07 yeah it did man you have allergies you know what i never did up until like i
00:04:07 --> 00:04:12 just started noticing like the last year or so you know when the pollen gets
00:04:12 --> 00:04:16 heavy you know always seem to get like a coal-like thing,
00:04:16 --> 00:04:19 but I can tell it's different than a regular coal. You know what I mean?
00:04:20 --> 00:04:26 So I think it is allergies. I might be forming in my latter year. All right.
00:04:26 --> 00:04:31 You might have to get that checked out before you sniffling and sneezing all on the planet.
00:04:33 --> 00:04:39 And late birthday shout-out, you know, Tim's birthday was on the 18th,
00:04:39 --> 00:04:42 which was a few days ago, so I just want to give him a shout-out.
00:04:42 --> 00:04:49 I know we already celebrated them last week, but I just want to say his official birthday was 18th, so.
00:04:49 --> 00:04:53 So shout out to DJ, to the dog. Join the 60 club.
00:04:54 --> 00:04:57 Go ahead and say it, buddy. Go ahead and say it. Nah, nah, nah.
00:04:57 --> 00:05:00 I'm, you know, well, here, I'll put it like this.
00:05:01 --> 00:05:05 Tim looked great for his age. And hopefully, you know, I look great when I turn
00:05:05 --> 00:05:08 60. But I'm nowhere near y'all, y'all elders.
00:05:10 --> 00:05:13 If you want to, you're definitely going to lay clay into that one.
00:05:13 --> 00:05:15 Okay. All right. Nowhere near. Okay. Nowhere near.
00:05:16 --> 00:05:19 And in fact, Dave, we're not even the same decade, you know. I know.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 I know when you turn when you turn i only remember you.
00:05:25 --> 00:05:32 I'll be like who we did a podcast together right right you know what's a podcast
00:05:32 --> 00:05:37 i don't remember what that is either you know with the way technology is going you never know.
00:05:38 --> 00:05:43 So but anyway we're going to go ahead and move into our stories i'll start with
00:05:43 --> 00:05:51 this first story well speaking of technology the first story has to do with just that,
00:05:53 --> 00:05:59 I don't know if you heard did you hear about the meta plans to slash roughly 8 jobs next month,
00:05:59 --> 00:06:06 No, you said Meta? Yeah. Like Facebook Meta? As in Facebook Meta, yeah.
00:06:06 --> 00:06:10 Oh, no, no, I didn't know. Yeah, okay, well, listen to this.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:15 Meta is preparing to cut thousands of jobs as early as next month with a deeper
00:06:15 --> 00:06:20 layoff expected later this year, according to a report.
00:06:20 --> 00:06:26 The tech giant intends to slash roughly 10% of its global workforce,
00:06:27 --> 00:06:33 or nearly 8 employees, in an initial round of cuts on May 20th, sources said.
00:06:34 --> 00:06:38 The company is also planning additional layoffs in the second half of the year,
00:06:39 --> 00:06:45 though details including timing and scope remains unclear, the outlet's report.
00:06:46 --> 00:06:53 The report follows early Reuter news that Meta was weighing cuts that could
00:06:53 --> 00:07:01 affect at least 20% of its workforce as it seeks to offset rising artificial intelligence costs.
00:07:01 --> 00:07:04 Here we go. We just talked about this, right?
00:07:05 --> 00:07:11 When reached by Fox Business, Meta declined to comment.
00:07:11 --> 00:07:16 Previously, a Meta spokesperson told Fox Fitness earlier Rooter Reports was
00:07:16 --> 00:07:21 a speculative report about the theoretic approaches.
00:07:22 --> 00:07:29 The cuts come as Meta looks to offset the cost of AI infrastructure and streamline
00:07:29 --> 00:07:31 operations with AI-assisted workers.
00:07:31 --> 00:07:38 CEO Mark Zuckerberg has invested billions of dollars into artificial,
00:07:39 --> 00:07:41 I was going to say artificial dissemination.
00:07:42 --> 00:07:43 Slow down.
00:07:46 --> 00:07:50 As the company pivots towards technology.
00:07:51 --> 00:07:57 Meta also reorganized teams within its Reality Labs division and moved engineers
00:07:57 --> 00:08:04 into the new applied AI group focused on developing AI agents capable of writing
00:08:04 --> 00:08:07 code and performing complex tasks,
00:08:07 --> 00:08:10 I should say, according to Reuters.
00:08:11 --> 00:08:18 Meta employs nearly 79 people as of December 31st, according to its latest filing.
00:08:19 --> 00:08:22 I didn't realize they had that many people working for them. Me neither.
00:08:23 --> 00:08:35 A 20% reduction would, 26% reduction marks Meta's largest restructuring since 2022 and early 2023.
00:08:35 --> 00:08:40 The company laid off 11 workers in November of 2022. to it,
00:08:40 --> 00:08:46 did not know that, about 13% of its workforce and cut another 10 jobs later on.
00:08:46 --> 00:08:53 Other major companies such as Amazon had also announced layoffs linked to AI development.
00:08:54 --> 00:09:00 Amazon said in January it would cut around 16 jobs after previously announcing
00:09:00 --> 00:09:04 about 14 white-collar layoffs in October,
00:09:04 --> 00:09:09 bringing total reductions to roughly 30 roles.
00:09:10 --> 00:09:19 Okay. I think, what was it, last week when we had the conversation, when we talked about AI?
00:09:21 --> 00:09:27 Well, here it is, affecting companies like Meta, Amazon, two of the biggest
00:09:27 --> 00:09:30 out there are right now doing big things.
00:09:30 --> 00:09:35 And, you know, now they're saying, hey, we can go out there and get AI to do
00:09:35 --> 00:09:39 the jobs that we're paying people to do.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:42 Yeah. Save ourselves a lot of money.
00:09:42 --> 00:09:46 You know, so what's your thoughts on this whole thing?
00:09:47 --> 00:09:51 Yeah, I mean, Dave, you know, I think this just mimics what we're going to start
00:09:51 --> 00:09:54 seeing in the, well, I would say American workforce,
00:09:54 --> 00:10:00 but if I just the worldwide workforce where, you know, we're developing technology
00:10:00 --> 00:10:04 that's taking jobs away, you know.
00:10:04 --> 00:10:08 So, so, I mean, it doesn't surprise me that these tech companies are,
00:10:08 --> 00:10:11 you know, developing technology to save them money.
00:10:12 --> 00:10:15 You know, that, that, that doesn't surprise me at all.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:18 Because I'm trying to think of what I was looking at.
00:10:19 --> 00:10:22 I was looking at something the other day and Dave, I can't remember,
00:10:22 --> 00:10:29 we talked about it last weekend, but they were talking about like chat GPT and
00:10:29 --> 00:10:31 AI and, you know, some of these other programs.
00:10:31 --> 00:10:35 They were saying every time you use
00:10:35 --> 00:10:38 it or it was something comparing the
00:10:38 --> 00:10:44 amount of usage of chat GPT to a gallon of water and I guess you know kind of
00:10:44 --> 00:10:48 go with the data centers how they're talking about they already use a lot of
00:10:48 --> 00:10:53 electricity but you know they I guess I've heard it all but I never really paid
00:10:53 --> 00:10:55 attention until I saw this one
00:10:55 --> 00:10:57 thing on social media I can't remember we talked about here on the show.
00:10:58 --> 00:11:03 But, you know, now I'm kind of seeing how some of this technology is really
00:11:03 --> 00:11:05 using up a lot of these resources.
00:11:05 --> 00:11:15 So, you know, we are technologizing ourselves out of existence, if that's what we are.
00:11:18 --> 00:11:24 And it's funny because I hadn't noticed until, you know, we talked about recently
00:11:24 --> 00:11:28 about but the data center that's opening here in Delmar City.
00:11:28 --> 00:11:33 But, you know, there's two other large data centers that are opening in PA.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:37 And I was like, all of a sudden, these data centers are popping up everywhere.
00:11:38 --> 00:11:39 Well, that's not a coincidence.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:46 Yeah. Not, not, not in the least. So these companies know exactly what's going on.
00:11:46 --> 00:11:50 They put building these data centers and, and none of these data centers are
00:11:50 --> 00:11:54 small. Like they've been talking about the square footage for these other two that I saw.
00:11:54 --> 00:11:58 Yeah. They, they, they ain't small. We ain't talking about the size of McDonald's.
00:11:58 --> 00:12:00 We talking about football fields.
00:12:00 --> 00:12:03 Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure. You know, so.
00:12:04 --> 00:12:09 You know, so just imagine the technology that must,
00:12:09 --> 00:12:15 that, the only thing that's curious about this whole thing is if we do go full-fledged
00:12:15 --> 00:12:20 artificial intelligence and relying on this type of stuff,
00:12:20 --> 00:12:24 what happens when the battery goes dead? You know what I mean?
00:12:24 --> 00:12:27 Dave, you already know that. That's a metaphor. That's a metaphor.
00:12:28 --> 00:12:29 Yeah, you already know this. Well, hold on.
00:12:30 --> 00:12:33 Which battery are you talking about? Their battery or our battery?
00:12:34 --> 00:12:38 Now, I know they got a generator on top of a generator to keep things going.
00:12:38 --> 00:12:42 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just saying, there's a lot of, you know,
00:12:42 --> 00:12:47 with them building these data centers, you know, when they first talked about
00:12:47 --> 00:12:49 the one here and I said, well, why are they doing that?
00:12:49 --> 00:12:54 And then I was thinking, okay, maybe they need a stronger grid as far as electric is concerned.
00:12:54 --> 00:12:58 And then when I started reading, I was like, this ain't about electric.
00:12:59 --> 00:13:04 You know, not at all. It's exactly what they're saying. It's a data center.
00:13:04 --> 00:13:12 Right you know so it's guys just pay attention when you hear reports like this
00:13:12 --> 00:13:18 about you know meta and you know amazon and these kind of companies up there
00:13:18 --> 00:13:22 laying off people you know it's not because they don't have the money to pay them,
00:13:23 --> 00:13:27 It's basically they're saying, why pay him? You know what I mean? But I can do it this way.
00:13:28 --> 00:13:32 So, yeah. Just pay attention, people. Just pay attention.
00:13:33 --> 00:13:38 And Dave, I was thinking real quick, like, what's one job you think AI would never take over?
00:13:39 --> 00:13:41 AI would never take over?
00:13:44 --> 00:13:50 That's a good question. Yeah, Leonard's Corner. There you go. Mid-show.
00:13:50 --> 00:13:53 Yeah, there you go. There you go. uh that is a
00:13:53 --> 00:13:57 good question i would say i can
00:13:57 --> 00:14:01 do that too yeah hard
00:14:01 --> 00:14:04 isn't it so i mean yeah yeah i'm just thinking yeah
00:14:04 --> 00:14:07 yeah i mean we got self-driving cars we
00:14:07 --> 00:14:10 got all that stuff now the only thing that kind of makes me think is
00:14:10 --> 00:14:14 maybe it's like some medical procedures but it's like okay who's going to be
00:14:14 --> 00:14:18 but they have it for that too they have they have the medical arms and you know
00:14:18 --> 00:14:24 the robots that go in because I'm looking at some documentary and they were
00:14:24 --> 00:14:29 talking about how they did this open heart surgery and it was all automated,
00:14:30 --> 00:14:34 the doctors were using the doctors were working the computers,
00:14:35 --> 00:14:41 Yeah, no doctor was in the room, you know, so it just says, yeah,
00:14:41 --> 00:14:43 well, yeah, I can't think of anything.
00:14:43 --> 00:14:45 What about, okay, babysitting?
00:14:46 --> 00:14:52 Nah, Dave, I already see that being, Dave, you know, these new age babysitters are lazy.
00:14:53 --> 00:14:55 You know, they always own their phone.
00:14:57 --> 00:15:03 Babysitting lazy, Eric, you know, it's kind of hard to think of something because,
00:15:03 --> 00:15:07 like I said, when you go into a mcdonald's some
00:15:07 --> 00:15:10 of these mcdonald's now you you don't talk to nobody anymore it's
00:15:10 --> 00:15:17 this whole kiosk you know so it's gonna be interesting gonna be interesting
00:15:17 --> 00:15:20 though the next 10 years is really well i'm not even gonna say 10 next five
00:15:20 --> 00:15:26 years yeah it's really gonna be telling yeah it's really gonna be telling well
00:15:26 --> 00:15:28 that leads me into my next story.
00:15:29 --> 00:15:34 Talking about what what's gonna happen with ai well what's gonna happen because
00:15:34 --> 00:15:37 of ai And it could be what this story is all about.
00:15:37 --> 00:15:46 So black mental health experts and educators share powerful insight on adolescence,
00:15:46 --> 00:15:50 isolation and social media. And here we go.
00:15:51 --> 00:15:55 You know, and we've talked over the years, we've talked about these type of
00:15:55 --> 00:15:57 stories, especially when it comes to young people.
00:15:57 --> 00:16:04 But here we go. As concern grows around adolescent mental health, new insights from Dr.
00:16:04 --> 00:16:09 Chantelia Johns highlights a troubling reality.
00:16:09 --> 00:16:16 Many young people are navigating social isolation and loneliness,
00:16:16 --> 00:16:23 turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as vaping, excessive social media
00:16:23 --> 00:16:28 use, and emotional withdrawal. According to Dr.
00:16:28 --> 00:16:31 Johns, a professor, mental health
00:16:31 --> 00:16:37 educator, and speaker, and licensed therapist, give me a moment here.
00:16:38 --> 00:16:45 Thing is not working at the moment. These behaviors are not random.
00:16:45 --> 00:16:53 They are responses to overwhelming environments and unmet emotional needs.
00:16:53 --> 00:17:00 We have to stop asking what is wrong with young people and start asking what happened to them.
00:17:00 --> 00:17:02 That's a good statement. I like that.
00:17:03 --> 00:17:07 The World Health Organization reports that half of all mental health conditions
00:17:07 --> 00:17:13 start before the age of 14, but most go unnoticed and unsupported.
00:17:14 --> 00:17:20 Adolescence is a critical period for identity development, emotional regulation,
00:17:20 --> 00:17:23 and relationship building.
00:17:24 --> 00:17:30 Without strong support systems, many teens seek quick relief from stress and anxiety.
00:17:30 --> 00:17:36 Research shows that nearly one and three high school students report current
00:17:36 --> 00:17:40 e-cigarette use often as a
00:17:40 --> 00:17:45 way to cope with mental health challenges they do not know how to manage.
00:17:45 --> 00:17:51 At the same time, social media can intensify feelings of loneliness while it offers connection.
00:17:52 --> 00:17:56 You can also expose young people to constant comparison,
00:17:56 --> 00:18:00 fear out of missing out, and pressures to perform, all
00:18:00 --> 00:18:06 which can erode self-esteem and deep in isolation dr john encourages families
00:18:06 --> 00:18:12 and communities to take a proactive supportive approach her recommendations
00:18:12 --> 00:18:16 include the following create space for conversation,
00:18:17 --> 00:18:20 encourage judgment open judgment free discussions.
00:18:22 --> 00:18:27 About stress, friendships, loneliness, and online experiences.
00:18:28 --> 00:18:34 She also says strengthen real-life connections, prioritize family time,
00:18:35 --> 00:18:38 shared meals, and activities that foster a sense of alarm.
00:18:39 --> 00:18:45 Teach healthy coping skills, introduce journaling, creative outlets,
00:18:45 --> 00:18:51 and mindfulness practices such as deep breathing while incorporating nature-based
00:18:51 --> 00:18:53 activities like outdoor walks.
00:18:55 --> 00:19:00 Grounding exercises in natural settings, noticing sights, sounds,
00:19:00 --> 00:19:08 and textures, gardening or engaging with green spaces, both regulation and overall well-being.
00:19:09 --> 00:19:13 And then the last thing she says is set heavy digital boundaries.
00:19:14 --> 00:19:17 I'm sorry, healthy digital boundaries.
00:19:18 --> 00:19:24 Establish phone-free times and help teens understand how social media impacts their emotions.
00:19:25 --> 00:19:29 Connection is one of the most powerful protective factors we have, said Dr. Dara.
00:19:30 --> 00:19:35 A single caring adult can change the trajectory of a young person's life.
00:19:36 --> 00:19:42 Now, I thought this was very interesting because it can apply to a lot of us,
00:19:43 --> 00:19:47 who are growing up in today's society. We just talked about the whole AI thing
00:19:47 --> 00:19:50 and how it's affecting our lives right now.
00:19:51 --> 00:19:57 We are in the social media age and how it affects almost everything we do.
00:19:57 --> 00:20:01 It affects us as adults. It affects us as young people as well.
00:20:01 --> 00:20:07 You as a parent, especially, and in a whole.
00:20:08 --> 00:20:20 You know, I know what I just read kind of comes into play for your family, right?
00:20:21 --> 00:20:25 Yeah, I mean, I think so. What do you think? And I'll say a lot of times,
00:20:25 --> 00:20:30 it'll make you feel like it's just your kids until you talk to some other parents.
00:20:30 --> 00:20:37 But I was waiting for you to talk about digital technology because I just feel
00:20:37 --> 00:20:44 like the cell phones, the TV, maybe not even the TV as much, but the cell phones.
00:20:44 --> 00:20:51 No, not really anymore. The TV is as bad as it used to be.
00:20:52 --> 00:20:55 It's definitely the fun. Yeah, but you know, just being able to be on social
00:20:55 --> 00:21:02 media all day, every day and not you know, maybe not even recognizing that they
00:21:02 --> 00:21:04 need a human interaction.
00:21:05 --> 00:21:09 I feel like that's the biggest thing. And to be honest, even a lot of adults,
00:21:09 --> 00:21:15 like, you know, I hear stories of, and, you know, I've kind of heard people allude to.
00:21:16 --> 00:21:21 You know, social media not being an enjoyable outlet, but more of,
00:21:21 --> 00:21:26 you know, making them feel bad because they're seeing people who have stuff
00:21:26 --> 00:21:30 that they don't have, stuff that they want, which, you know, maybe kids too.
00:21:31 --> 00:21:37 But, you know, I kind of feel like these cell phones are, they are taking over.
00:21:37 --> 00:21:39 And they, like, I can't even lie.
00:21:39 --> 00:21:44 I think if I did not have a good, mentally strong upbringing,
00:21:44 --> 00:21:48 you know, getting spankings and love in the, in the, in the same time.
00:21:48 --> 00:21:52 Cause you know, like, I mean, there's some time, you know, I feel like I'm addicted
00:21:52 --> 00:21:57 to the phone, but I feel like I can also have a conversation with people, you know what I mean?
00:21:57 --> 00:22:00 Like have a conversation that, you know, I can put the phone down,
00:22:00 --> 00:22:04 but you know, I feel like there's a lot of people now who just can't have conversations
00:22:04 --> 00:22:10 with people and, you know, don't, You talked about that in-person connection.
00:22:10 --> 00:22:18 There are people who have sacrificed that in-person connection by being on the phone all the time.
00:22:19 --> 00:22:24 Yeah, that's true. I mean, you know, the conversation,
00:22:25 --> 00:22:31 the interpersonal reaction and the conversation that goes around with phones
00:22:31 --> 00:22:37 these days basically is when somebody says, hey, look at this video.
00:22:38 --> 00:22:42 That's the interaction you know and you know that's the only talking they do
00:22:42 --> 00:22:47 is like and they laughing or whatever the case may be when it it really killed
00:22:47 --> 00:22:48 me when i started realizing,
00:22:49 --> 00:22:55 you know a few years ago when i saw these kids and they would be looking at
00:22:55 --> 00:23:01 their phones and all of a sudden they just start busting out laughing yeah and and then so i remember,
00:23:02 --> 00:23:07 it it happened a couple times and i said something to one of the kids it's like what are you laughing
00:23:07 --> 00:23:11 about it's always telling jokes to each other and that's
00:23:11 --> 00:23:14 what they were doing on the phone they were texting
00:23:14 --> 00:23:17 jokes to me you know but that's the
00:23:17 --> 00:23:20 what you know that just says a lot about where we are right now
00:23:20 --> 00:23:25 because we don't have that interpersonal reaction we don't interaction i should
00:23:25 --> 00:23:32 say and we just it's it's it's really scary because even as adults because you
00:23:32 --> 00:23:38 know You see a lot of adults have gotten hooked on these phones.
00:23:38 --> 00:23:45 I was watching an episode of Avid Elementary, and it was an episode where they
00:23:45 --> 00:23:49 had to put their phones away for a day. I don't know if you saw that.
00:23:49 --> 00:23:53 But they had to put their phones away for a day, and they couldn't use their
00:23:53 --> 00:23:55 cell phones. Of course, they were freaking out.
00:23:57 --> 00:24:04 But you would think, like, Cheryl Lee Ralph's character, and the other teacher
00:24:04 --> 00:24:08 that's her best friend, you would think they would be the ones that would be
00:24:08 --> 00:24:11 calm and cool and collected because they came up without phones. Right.
00:24:12 --> 00:24:14 But they were the ones freaking out. Yeah.
00:24:17 --> 00:24:20 Let me ask you this quick question real quick.
00:24:21 --> 00:24:24 Knowing how you were brought up, knowing how I was brought up,
00:24:24 --> 00:24:29 you know, and you mentioned it about, you know, getting spankings and getting,
00:24:29 --> 00:24:34 you know, getting fussed at, you know, having to do chores and stuff like that, you know, whatever.
00:24:34 --> 00:24:41 Do you think if cell phones were around then, how do you think your parents
00:24:41 --> 00:24:45 would have handled it with you and the phone? Do you think.
00:24:47 --> 00:24:50 That you would have had the freedom that your kids have with the phone now?
00:24:51 --> 00:24:58 So, I mean, I think at a certain age, you know, maybe 16, 17, maybe even 15.
00:24:59 --> 00:25:04 But I feel like earlier, you know, I'm not sure. When I was growing up,
00:25:04 --> 00:25:06 all the black parents seemed really strict.
00:25:06 --> 00:25:10 And all the black parents claimed they never have no money for nothing.
00:25:10 --> 00:25:13 Like, so, like, I can already see my dad saying, I don't got no money for no
00:25:13 --> 00:25:18 cell phone. and then, you know, you lose that cell phone once or get broken
00:25:18 --> 00:25:20 once and they're not getting you a new one.
00:25:20 --> 00:25:23 Yeah, that's it. You can only get a school out one.
00:25:23 --> 00:25:27 But, you know, I can say if there are cell phones, you know,
00:25:27 --> 00:25:34 I think cell phones, people with addictive personalities just really get drawn to cell phones.
00:25:34 --> 00:25:38 And, I mean, nothing against the, you know, the gamers out there,
00:25:38 --> 00:25:42 but, you know, I kind of feel like people who, you know, Dave,
00:25:42 --> 00:25:45 you hear these stories about people playing video games and their girlfriends
00:25:45 --> 00:25:48 like, oh, you don't ever have no time with me?
00:25:48 --> 00:25:55 Like, you're on the video game. And, you know, I feel like cell phones are kind
00:25:55 --> 00:25:57 of like a tool that, you know.
00:25:57 --> 00:26:01 Kind of get played out like that, too, where, you know, Dave,
00:26:01 --> 00:26:04 we already hear about relationships, like cell phone ending relationships.
00:26:04 --> 00:26:08 And not even people being sneaky and stuff like that, but it's like you come
00:26:08 --> 00:26:11 home and want to spend time with your, your mate and they're on their phone
00:26:11 --> 00:26:17 and you're like, okay, you know, you know, like, I mean, so I think overall, I think.
00:26:20 --> 00:26:30 I'm sure. Yeah. So, and it's, it's, you know, so we can tell just by what you
00:26:30 --> 00:26:35 just said about, you know, being able to go through a day without your fault.
00:26:35 --> 00:26:38 I've turned around. Look, I've left my house,
00:26:38 --> 00:26:42 five minutes from the job that turned around because I left my phone home.
00:26:43 --> 00:26:46 You know, and had to go back and get it, you know, you know.
00:26:47 --> 00:26:52 Or, or, or, or even worse, have you ever realized you didn't have your phone
00:26:52 --> 00:26:55 until you're already at work and you can't go and get it and you just,
00:26:55 --> 00:26:58 like, you know, you almost feel like a crackhead all day, like,
00:26:59 --> 00:27:02 itching, like, okay, like, you know, thinking you have it and you don't.
00:27:03 --> 00:27:07 I was in the parking lot and went home and got my phone. Yeah.
00:27:08 --> 00:27:12 I was already at work. I called my boss. I left my phone home.
00:27:12 --> 00:27:14 I said, I'll be right back.
00:27:15 --> 00:27:18 And they didn't, they just left because they said, you're doing this.
00:27:18 --> 00:27:20 They said they would have done the same thing.
00:27:20 --> 00:27:24 They said, I would have went home and got my phone too. You know, so, yeah.
00:27:24 --> 00:27:28 So, but this is where we are. But folks, you know, pay attention.
00:27:29 --> 00:27:32 You know, I mean, there's some good stuff here that they're talking about.
00:27:32 --> 00:27:39 So we got to do better in trying to to try to curb some of these things that
00:27:39 --> 00:27:42 are going on, especially when it comes to the mental health.
00:27:43 --> 00:27:47 Because, yes, these phones, social media, regardless of whether it's on the
00:27:47 --> 00:27:52 phone or on a computer or iPad, whatever you use to get on social media,
00:27:52 --> 00:27:55 that's the root right there.
00:27:55 --> 00:27:57 So, OK.
00:27:58 --> 00:28:07 Moving on to our next story. I just wanted to say something about this LeBron James.
00:28:08 --> 00:28:14 You know, he is in his 21st season.
00:28:14 --> 00:28:22 They made the playoffs. They're playing the Lakers, who my favorite franchise for most of my life.
00:28:23 --> 00:28:30 You know, they are trying to contemplate whether this is going to be LeBron's last year. and.
00:28:31 --> 00:28:35 He did do something pretty unique over the weekend. I got to give him props
00:28:35 --> 00:28:38 for it. I'm not the biggest LeBron James fan.
00:28:39 --> 00:28:45 That's his whole demeanor. It's something that kind of... I think he wants to
00:28:45 --> 00:28:52 be like Kobe and Jordan, you know, that type of person.
00:28:52 --> 00:28:53 Not so much player. He's a great player.
00:28:54 --> 00:28:58 Great player. And he definitely has changed the game to be able to stick around
00:28:58 --> 00:29:00 as long as he has and to be in the shape that he's in.
00:29:00 --> 00:29:03 41 years old but he
00:29:03 --> 00:29:06 did do something very unique over the
00:29:06 --> 00:29:14 weekend I mean well it started out last season but he played in his first playoff
00:29:14 --> 00:29:21 game with his son where they were on the court together first time in NBA history
00:29:21 --> 00:29:26 that's ever happened where a father and son played in a playoff game together,
00:29:27 --> 00:29:30 that's crazy when you think about it,
00:29:31 --> 00:29:36 that you have been around long enough to have your son on the court with you
00:29:36 --> 00:29:38 and still be playing at a high level.
00:29:39 --> 00:29:47 You know, so I have to give him props for that, you know, and it's been tough
00:29:47 --> 00:29:50 because they go into the playoff without their leading scorer,
00:29:51 --> 00:29:57 their sixth man of the year, you know, and so this is going to be a tough ride for him.
00:29:57 --> 00:30:05 But, you know, he's LeBron James. I mean, you know, and regardless of any break,
00:30:05 --> 00:30:07 every time he steps on the court, he's breaking some type of risk.
00:30:08 --> 00:30:15 I mean, it's crazy. I mean, he's going to put these records so far out that
00:30:15 --> 00:30:18 nobody will ever break a lot of the records that he's setting.
00:30:18 --> 00:30:23 You know, because, you know, I don't think you're going to have many players play.
00:30:24 --> 00:30:30 How many players do you think now? First of all, these guys ain't built that way to play 21 years now.
00:30:30 --> 00:30:33 Right right they want the quick money they
00:30:33 --> 00:30:36 get the quick money and they out you know because they
00:30:36 --> 00:30:39 usually do something stupid that doesn't keep them in the game you
00:30:39 --> 00:30:42 know so but so this
00:30:42 --> 00:30:48 is a really unique individual he really is and and hey he might fool around
00:30:48 --> 00:30:52 stick around stick around another year and his other son might be in league
00:30:52 --> 00:30:56 too so i don't know so you know that's crazy so but i just wanted to give him
00:30:56 --> 00:31:00 a shout out and give him props you know because that is a big accomplishment to be,
00:31:01 --> 00:31:03 you know, I'd be real proud.
00:31:03 --> 00:31:07 I mean, wouldn't you be proud if you and Quincy were in a swimming match together?
00:31:08 --> 00:31:12 Yeah. Even though you're still going to beat them?
00:31:13 --> 00:31:18 And Dave, not just them playing together, but, you know, just a father and son
00:31:18 --> 00:31:20 being at such a high level.
00:31:20 --> 00:31:29 Yeah, yeah. I mean, really. And get this, wife and other siblings sitting there watching.
00:31:30 --> 00:31:34 So you got a whole family structure, black family structure,
00:31:35 --> 00:31:41 you know, here at this game, you know, which you just, it's never been seen before.
00:31:42 --> 00:31:46 And I don't know if it'll ever be seen again. Right. You know?
00:31:46 --> 00:31:51 So, you know, so I just thought that was very unique. So I just wanted to give
00:31:51 --> 00:31:52 him a shout out. I thought it was something positive.
00:31:53 --> 00:31:55 So, okay. All right.
00:31:57 --> 00:32:07 All right. So, for the finale, did you see the Delaware Marathon video that has gone viral?
00:32:09 --> 00:32:15 No, I didn't. No, Dave, you didn't see it? The Delaware Marathon? Yeah. No.
00:32:16 --> 00:32:22 Dave. You know, I'm usually on everything. I miss that. You haven't seen it? No.
00:32:22 --> 00:32:26 What was it about? All right. So anyway, long story short, this video has been
00:32:26 --> 00:32:31 viral on every single major media platform I've seen. I saw it on the New York Post.
00:32:31 --> 00:32:35 I saw it on SportsCenter, on ESPN.
00:32:35 --> 00:32:40 So Dave, this is what it is. So the video starts out with, so apparently, so,
00:32:41 --> 00:32:47 okay, so this weekend was, and I believe it was the Delaware Marathon had their,
00:32:47 --> 00:32:53 I guess you'll call it their, their, their major race this weekend, right?
00:32:54 --> 00:32:57 So for the Delaware Marathon, they had a bunch of different races.
00:32:57 --> 00:33:03 So that you can, you could do the 5K, the 10K, the half marathon or the full
00:33:03 --> 00:33:09 marathon. So this was all happening in the city of Wilmington at Harriet Tubman
00:33:09 --> 00:33:11 Garrett Park. Okay. Yeah.
00:33:12 --> 00:33:16 So now in the video, so this is what's been going viral.
00:33:16 --> 00:33:23 The video shows a guy standing probably about 100 yards from the finish line.
00:33:24 --> 00:33:29 And you see this black guy come zooming past them in the video.
00:33:30 --> 00:33:34 So the person who's shooting the video is screaming at the guy like,
00:33:35 --> 00:33:39 go, go, get him, get him. So then when he pans towards the finish line,
00:33:40 --> 00:33:44 there's a white guy who is running.
00:33:44 --> 00:33:50 And so from the video, it looks like the white guy is the first place contestant.
00:33:50 --> 00:33:52 And this black guy running is in second.
00:33:53 --> 00:34:00 The white guy has about, and I'm exaggerating, a 70 yard head start.
00:34:00 --> 00:34:03 Like, you know, he's 30 yards from the finish line.
00:34:03 --> 00:34:06 Black guy, 70 yards from the finish line.
00:34:07 --> 00:34:11 The black guy is sprinting like nobody's business.
00:34:12 --> 00:34:17 And so when the camera pans to the finish line, you see the guy,
00:34:17 --> 00:34:21 the white guy, he's thinking he's won. He throws his hands up.
00:34:21 --> 00:34:23 You know, he's kind of jogging into the finish.
00:34:24 --> 00:34:30 And but you see the black guy catching, catching, catching. And your mind is
00:34:30 --> 00:34:32 like, OK, is there enough time for him to catch him?
00:34:32 --> 00:34:37 And then when it goes to the finish line, when the video pans to the finish
00:34:37 --> 00:34:43 line, you can see the I guess we call it like the tape, you know,
00:34:43 --> 00:34:45 the tape that kind of goes across. Yeah.
00:34:45 --> 00:34:51 And the black guy edges him out at the very end.
00:34:52 --> 00:34:55 And of course. Weekend? Yep. It was Sunday.
00:34:56 --> 00:35:04 So that's that. Yep. So the black guy edges him out at the last minute when they show the results.
00:35:04 --> 00:35:08 This black guy won by point zero two.
00:35:09 --> 00:35:11 Well, two hundredths of a second.
00:35:12 --> 00:35:17 So so, you know, of course, you know, black people nationwide are taking pride.
00:35:18 --> 00:35:20 You know, did you see that Shaqari
00:35:20 --> 00:35:23 video from the weekend before where she started with that that deficit?
00:35:25 --> 00:35:28 So people are kind of comparing it to that. And of course, now everyone has
00:35:28 --> 00:35:29 a motivational message.
00:35:30 --> 00:35:33 You know, it's not over till it's over. Never quit.
00:35:33 --> 00:35:36 You know, it's just so funny. But I just kind of want to speak about it because
00:35:36 --> 00:35:41 I saw a couple of things too. And I saw this one video that was really, really good.
00:35:41 --> 00:35:47 And she was like, you know, the same effort and energy you have when you start
00:35:47 --> 00:35:53 things is the same effort and energy you need to have when you finish things.
00:35:53 --> 00:35:58 And, you know, she specifically referenced the Delaware Marathon and she wasn't even in Delaware.
00:35:58 --> 00:36:04 But, you know, she was saying that in terms of, you know, one,
00:36:05 --> 00:36:06 it's not over till it's over.
00:36:06 --> 00:36:10 Two, the same way you start is the same way you need to finish.
00:36:11 --> 00:36:15 And, you know, I mean, kind of combining it all and never give up.
00:36:15 --> 00:36:19 You know, never think something is not possible. So, Dave, I kid you not.
00:36:19 --> 00:36:26 First of all, who the heck is sprinting? And Dave, you got to see he was sprinting.
00:36:26 --> 00:36:33 Who's sprinting that last hundred yards of a twenty six point one mile race?
00:36:34 --> 00:36:39 You know, so, and, you know, from the guy who got, Dave, you know,
00:36:39 --> 00:36:41 we talked about mental health.
00:36:41 --> 00:36:46 I would not be surprised if that guy who got beat had some mental health issues.
00:36:47 --> 00:36:51 Because when I say that video is everywhere, everywhere.
00:36:52 --> 00:36:55 Now, how old do you think these guys were?
00:36:56 --> 00:37:00 I would say both in their 30s. That would be my rough estimation.
00:37:02 --> 00:37:05 And in fact dave i'm gonna let me
00:37:05 --> 00:37:08 forward this video to you right now because you i i
00:37:08 --> 00:37:12 can't believe you haven't seen it i had not heard a thing about this man and
00:37:12 --> 00:37:17 you know me i'm using all over stuff you know i did not heard anything about
00:37:17 --> 00:37:21 it you're telling me something i heard for the first time all right dave so
00:37:21 --> 00:37:25 what i'm going to do i'm texting it to you now yeah um of course You know,
00:37:26 --> 00:37:27 this is on DelawareBlack.com.
00:37:28 --> 00:37:31 The first page is the picture.
00:37:31 --> 00:37:36 If you slide it to the right, you'll see the video. And you may want to turn
00:37:36 --> 00:37:39 up your sound for it. Well, I don't know how you do that or not.
00:37:39 --> 00:37:41 But are you able to watch it now? You got to wait till you get off.
00:37:44 --> 00:37:47 In a picture. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:52 --> 00:37:55 Guy, he was coming. That's crazy.
00:37:56 --> 00:37:59 Yeah, so what I'm thinking is he probably heard everyone making noise.
00:38:00 --> 00:38:03 He probably thought they were cheering him on. They probably thought he was
00:38:03 --> 00:38:05 cheering him on. Oh, okay.
00:38:06 --> 00:38:11 Yeah, that dude, that dude was, he looked, now, Leonard, do we know that guy
00:38:11 --> 00:38:13 ran the whole race? I know.
00:38:17 --> 00:38:20 It reminded me of that show my wife and
00:38:20 --> 00:38:22 kid damon wayne where he took a patsy and got
00:38:22 --> 00:38:26 dropped off at the finish line and you
00:38:26 --> 00:38:29 don't remember that race that marathon from years ago when the
00:38:29 --> 00:38:34 woman yes yeah i think that was the boston marathon marathon right yeah yeah
00:38:34 --> 00:38:41 yeah so he looked kind french running though man yeah that ain't real you know
00:38:41 --> 00:38:46 if you want and the techie would say where's that guy running right right you
00:38:46 --> 00:38:47 know that's what it looks like you know so.
00:38:49 --> 00:38:56 Oh yeah i'm sure there's gonna be a yeah you're saying yeah but you know the
00:38:56 --> 00:38:59 old that's the old axiom in sports it's never over till it's over,
00:39:01 --> 00:39:05 That's what we live by, you know? It really is. Yeah, that's what we live by.
00:39:05 --> 00:39:07 It's never over until it's over.
00:39:07 --> 00:39:11 Or the other one, until the fat lady sings. I'm sure there was a fat lady over
00:39:11 --> 00:39:13 there singing. I know. I know.
00:39:14 --> 00:39:19 You know, so. Oh, congrats. Do you got the guy's name?
00:39:19 --> 00:39:23 Yeah, Joshua Jackson. When I looked up his time, his results,
00:39:23 --> 00:39:27 racing results, it looks like he's out of Pennsylvania, not too far away.
00:39:27 --> 00:39:34 So, you know, I don't know if he frequents Delaware or not, but he did his thing.
00:39:35 --> 00:39:40 And when I say that video is all over, so like now that I told you about it,
00:39:40 --> 00:39:43 you're probably going to see it everywhere now. Yeah, probably. Yeah.
00:39:44 --> 00:39:47 He came up there like, you know, I should speak.
00:39:50 --> 00:39:56 Oh, man. I tell you, that's crazy. Well, okay. Well, congratulations, Mr. Jackson.
00:39:57 --> 00:40:00 I guess you are for real. Mm-hmm.
00:40:02 --> 00:40:11 Okay, all right. Well, I guess that brings us to our favorite part of the show, especially yours.
00:40:11 --> 00:40:14 You tried to get one in earlier, but I'm going to throw another one in here.
00:40:15 --> 00:40:18 This is Dave's corner, everyone, Leonard's favorite part of the show.
00:40:18 --> 00:40:21 So speaking of what you just said,
00:40:23 --> 00:40:28 I said, my question to you is, what sporting event, see how this worked out?
00:40:29 --> 00:40:34 What sporting event would you most want to see in person? And I gave you the
00:40:34 --> 00:40:35 choice of the following.
00:40:36 --> 00:40:45 The World Cup, the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, the Major League Baseball World Series,
00:40:47 --> 00:40:54 Wimbledon or the Olympics but specifically track and field at the Olympics,
00:40:55 --> 00:41:00 which one would you think you would want to see the most Dave I'm probably going
00:41:00 --> 00:41:06 to kind of a toss up I'm probably going to want to see the Super Bowl okay,
00:41:08 --> 00:41:13 you could have a toss up though who else I mean I want to see the track and
00:41:13 --> 00:41:18 field events I think you would say that But, you know, at the same point,
00:41:18 --> 00:41:22 the track and the field events, they go by so quick, you know, like.
00:41:24 --> 00:41:28 But they also got multiple events going on at the same time.
00:41:29 --> 00:41:32 But, you know, I'm just trying to see, OK, what are the events?
00:41:33 --> 00:41:36 I mean, really, I could probably. OK, well, let's break it down.
00:41:36 --> 00:41:40 It would be the track and field would
00:41:40 --> 00:41:43 be the day that they had the big races though you
00:41:43 --> 00:41:50 know the 100 to 200 you know the the relays you know so on that particular day
00:41:50 --> 00:41:56 i'm i'm i'm probably still gonna go for the super bowl okay yeah but now now
00:41:56 --> 00:41:59 i will say i'm gonna be highly disappointed if that super bowl is a blowout
00:41:59 --> 00:42:03 like if i go to the super bowl like i like i want to be one for the ages,
00:42:03 --> 00:42:07 like, you know, when they're still talking about 5, 10, 20 years from now,
00:42:07 --> 00:42:10 or, you know, at least something close.
00:42:10 --> 00:42:14 But I almost feel like the Super Bowl is a waste, not to say a waste of time,
00:42:14 --> 00:42:19 but if it's not a competitive event, then it's, you know, shoot,
00:42:19 --> 00:42:21 I would have rather stayed home and watched it on TV.
00:42:23 --> 00:42:26 A lot of people going to the Super Bowl because of the halftime show.
00:42:27 --> 00:42:29 That's basically what they're going for.
00:42:30 --> 00:42:34 So if it's a good halftime show and you get to see the Super Bowl,
00:42:35 --> 00:42:37 you can't beat that. I mean.
00:42:39 --> 00:42:49 The well, lately, though, except for the Eagles Super Bowl and the last two
00:42:49 --> 00:42:52 Super Bowls were kind of blowouts, but the other ones were pretty close.
00:42:53 --> 00:43:00 Like, the last few prior to that have been pretty close. So, I think I have to agree.
00:43:01 --> 00:43:07 You know what? I mean, I'm not a big fan, a real big fan, but,
00:43:07 --> 00:43:10 man, that soccer stuff ain't no joke.
00:43:11 --> 00:43:23 Those games, you know, like, they had in Miami yesterday, the Miami team with Messi was there.
00:43:23 --> 00:43:27 And they had 78 people in that stadium.
00:43:28 --> 00:43:32 Yeah. That's crazy. And that was a new stadium too, right?
00:43:32 --> 00:43:36 Yeah, that's a new stadium down there. In fact, literally, I feel like it's
00:43:36 --> 00:43:38 called new, right? NU or something like that?
00:43:38 --> 00:43:41 Something like that, yeah. Something like that, yeah, yeah.
00:43:41 --> 00:43:45 They built it because of, well, basically, since Messi's been down there,
00:43:45 --> 00:43:48 because they're bringing in all kinds of money down there right now.
00:43:48 --> 00:43:53 But 78 people for a soccer game, where you might see one goal,
00:43:54 --> 00:44:00 That's crazy to me, you know, but they, the people love, they love going to the soccer.
00:44:02 --> 00:44:05 I think the Super Bowl. Yeah, I think it would be the Super Bowl for me,
00:44:05 --> 00:44:09 too. Even though, and I'm with you on the track and field. You know, we like track and field.
00:44:10 --> 00:44:18 So, yeah, Super Bowl definitely, especially if it's a great halftime show, I'm there for it.
00:44:19 --> 00:44:23 So, folks, let us know what your thoughts are as far as the sporting events are.
00:44:24 --> 00:44:27 You know, drop us a line. Let us know what your thoughts are as far as what
00:44:27 --> 00:44:29 you would like to see. Okay?
00:44:30 --> 00:44:36 All right. Well, I guess that's our show for the day. That show went by quick. Yeah. Okay.
00:44:37 --> 00:44:41 All right. Well, you know, hopefully we gave you guys some good information
00:44:41 --> 00:44:44 and you can always hit us up with your thoughts and everything.
00:44:45 --> 00:44:48 So anything you want to add before we go, sir?
00:44:49 --> 00:44:53 Nope. Just, you know, avoid that pollen for all those allergy people.
00:44:54 --> 00:44:57 Yeah, that pollen ain't no joke out here, man.
00:44:58 --> 00:45:04 But everyone, make sure you stay healthy, stay wise, and we'll talk to you next
00:45:04 --> 00:45:05 Tuesday. Have a good night.
