00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 Hey, hey everybody. This is Deia Avery

00:00:02 --> 00:00:04 of the Demia Avery Show. So, y'all

00:00:04 --> 00:00:06 remember the show Pimp My Ride and the

00:00:06 --> 00:00:09 host of that show, Rapper Exhibit? Well,

00:00:09 --> 00:00:11 he only got paid

00:00:11 --> 00:00:15 $5 for each episode. Come on in.

00:00:15 --> 00:00:18 Let's talk about it. This is the Deia

00:00:18 --> 00:00:21 Avery Show hosted by Deia Avery, where

00:00:21 --> 00:00:23 some of your favorite entertainers,

00:00:23 --> 00:00:26 celebs, and entrepreneurs come to

00:00:26 --> 00:00:29 highlight all of their many talents.

00:00:29 --> 00:00:34 [Music]

00:00:34 --> 00:00:36 Hello, hello, hello everyone. This is

00:00:36 --> 00:00:39 Deia Avery of the Demia Avery Show.

00:00:39 --> 00:00:40 Thank you once again for joining me on

00:00:40 --> 00:00:44 today's entertainment report. I so

00:00:44 --> 00:00:46 appreciate it. But you know what to do.

00:00:46 --> 00:00:48 Go ahead and hit that subscribe button,

00:00:48 --> 00:00:50 hit that like and share

00:00:51 --> 00:00:53 button. I really, really, really

00:00:53 --> 00:00:55 appreciate it. So, how you guys been

00:00:55 --> 00:00:57 doing with all this Diddy

00:00:57 --> 00:00:59 news?

00:00:59 --> 00:01:01 Y'all, I'm I'm cool with it because

00:01:01 --> 00:01:03 it's, you know, it's news that I have to

00:01:03 --> 00:01:06 bring to you guys and, you know, it's in

00:01:06 --> 00:01:08 the world of entertainment, but it it's

00:01:08 --> 00:01:10 been kind of draining. I'm not going to

00:01:10 --> 00:01:14 even lie. I'm like, and it's got what, a

00:01:14 --> 00:01:17 month and a half left of all this stuff.

00:01:17 --> 00:01:19 So, you guys know I'm going to go ahead

00:01:19 --> 00:01:21 and I'm going to continue to bring the

00:01:21 --> 00:01:23 updates, but I like to do that during

00:01:23 --> 00:01:27 the afternoon after everything um has

00:01:27 --> 00:01:29 has completed, the jury has completed

00:01:29 --> 00:01:31 and the court has dismissed and stuff

00:01:31 --> 00:01:35 like that. But I'm a little drained. I'm

00:01:35 --> 00:01:38 kind of glad that the whole Cassie stuff

00:01:38 --> 00:01:42 is kind of moving on. Y'all see my

00:01:42 --> 00:01:45 fingernail? I broke my fingernail today.

00:01:45 --> 00:01:47 But I know it looks ghetto. I know it

00:01:47 --> 00:01:50 looks ghetto, but it is what it is. So

00:01:50 --> 00:01:54 anyway, so I I'm glad they're moving on

00:01:54 --> 00:01:56 from the Cassie thing and moving on to

00:01:56 --> 00:02:00 more things about the RICO charges and

00:02:00 --> 00:02:04 and other things because um I wanted it

00:02:04 --> 00:02:06 to be more

00:02:06 --> 00:02:08 um

00:02:08 --> 00:02:12 about other things besides the domestic

00:02:12 --> 00:02:14 violence, which was was absolutely

00:02:14 --> 00:02:17 horrible. Absolutely horrible. But I

00:02:17 --> 00:02:20 wanted to see what else they had. And of

00:02:20 --> 00:02:22 course, you guys know they have the Kid

00:02:22 --> 00:02:24 Cuddy thing coming up today. And that

00:02:24 --> 00:02:27 should be very interesting and different

00:02:27 --> 00:02:30 and bring in different charges uh that

00:02:30 --> 00:02:33 they have against him. So, we can start

00:02:33 --> 00:02:37 seeing some more uh some more subjects

00:02:37 --> 00:02:40 around this whole uh Diddy stuff. So,

00:02:40 --> 00:02:42 anyway, we're going to go right into

00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 other entertainment news. So, we got

00:02:45 --> 00:02:48 some exciting news from uh for all of

00:02:48 --> 00:02:51 you Dwayne Johnson, the rock fans. So,

00:02:51 --> 00:02:53 I'mma go ahead and get started with

00:02:53 --> 00:02:55 that. So, I was reading Deadline

00:02:56 --> 00:02:58 magazine and they report um after

00:02:58 --> 00:03:01 working with A24 on the Smashing

00:03:01 --> 00:03:04 Machine, the anticipated MA drama out

00:03:04 --> 00:03:07 later this year, Dwayne Johnson is

00:03:07 --> 00:03:09 looking to get back in business with the

00:03:09 --> 00:03:12 studio. Sources tell Deadline magazine

00:03:12 --> 00:03:15 that he's coming aboard to co-star in

00:03:15 --> 00:03:17 Breakthrough. That's a psychological

00:03:17 --> 00:03:20 thriller pinned by up and coming uh

00:03:20 --> 00:03:23 coming actor Zeke Goodman. Set in turn

00:03:23 --> 00:03:24 of the millennium south southern

00:03:24 --> 00:03:26 California, the story follows an

00:03:26 --> 00:03:29 alienated young man who comes under the

00:03:29 --> 00:03:32 influence of a motivational guru whose

00:03:32 --> 00:03:35 intoxicating charm mass his morally

00:03:35 --> 00:03:38 questionable methods of manipulation and

00:03:38 --> 00:03:40 his own concealed darkness. We're told

00:03:40 --> 00:03:42 Johnson will play the supporting role of

00:03:42 --> 00:03:44 the guru

00:03:44 --> 00:03:46 uh with casting still underway for the

00:03:46 --> 00:03:48 lead role and other supporting roles.

00:03:48 --> 00:03:51 So, he's back on the on the screen

00:03:51 --> 00:03:57 again. So, if you are a rock fan, there

00:03:57 --> 00:03:59 you have it. There you have it. Rock

00:03:59 --> 00:04:01 fan. I like him as an actor. I mean, he

00:04:01 --> 00:04:03 looks great on the

00:04:03 --> 00:04:06 camera. Looks great on the camera, but

00:04:06 --> 00:04:08 I'm excited for him to be back on the

00:04:09 --> 00:04:10 camera.

00:04:10 --> 00:04:14 So, okay. So, do you guys remember the

00:04:14 --> 00:04:19 um the show Pit My Ride with the rapper

00:04:19 --> 00:04:23 exhibit? So, I used to love it. And

00:04:23 --> 00:04:25 look, I'm not a huge car fan. I mean, I

00:04:26 --> 00:04:27 see some cars, I'm like, "Okay, that's

00:04:27 --> 00:04:30 nice, you know, and I see some muscle

00:04:30 --> 00:04:31 cars, you know, that I'm like, "Okay,

00:04:31 --> 00:04:33 that's that's that's pretty nice." And

00:04:33 --> 00:04:35 especially if it's painted real cool,

00:04:35 --> 00:04:38 you know? And then I did watch Exhibit

00:04:38 --> 00:04:41 and I was like, "Okay, I like I like

00:04:41 --> 00:04:44 this show." And I used to actually watch

00:04:44 --> 00:04:48 the the different ones and watch um the

00:04:48 --> 00:04:51 reruns on YouTube and and see how they

00:04:51 --> 00:04:53 pimped out their rides. So, Exhibit goes

00:04:53 --> 00:04:56 on recently on this interview and he

00:04:56 --> 00:04:59 talks about his experience as the host

00:05:00 --> 00:05:04 of that show. And so come to find out

00:05:04 --> 00:05:07 that Exhibit only got

00:05:07 --> 00:05:10 $5 an episode for that

00:05:11 --> 00:05:13 show and I was like

00:05:13 --> 00:05:15 what?

00:05:15 --> 00:05:19 So maybe I guess they didn't figure that

00:05:19 --> 00:05:22 it was going to be such a success, but I

00:05:22 --> 00:05:24 would figure you know maybe at the

00:05:24 --> 00:05:26 beginning but that show got big and

00:05:26 --> 00:05:28 people every you know a lot people start

00:05:28 --> 00:05:33 watching that show. So I don't think it

00:05:33 --> 00:05:35 it you know I can see it at the

00:05:35 --> 00:05:38 beginning but it didn't he didn't get

00:05:38 --> 00:05:40 paid any more than that after that. So

00:05:40 --> 00:05:43 I'm going to read what he says. Um, he

00:05:43 --> 00:05:44 said despite the show's widespread

00:05:44 --> 00:05:46 success and cultural impact, the

00:05:46 --> 00:05:49 financial compensation he received was

00:05:49 --> 00:05:52 surprisingly low. Exhibit opened up

00:05:52 --> 00:05:54 about the disconnect between public

00:05:54 --> 00:05:57 perception and reality, explaining what

00:05:58 --> 00:05:59 appears successful from the outside

00:05:59 --> 00:06:02 doesn't always reflect the truth behind

00:06:02 --> 00:06:04 the scenes. He shared that the initial

00:06:04 --> 00:06:06 deal he signed was not favorable and

00:06:06 --> 00:06:09 likely mishandled by his agents at the

00:06:09 --> 00:06:11 time, but when you needed another agent.

00:06:11 --> 00:06:13 They had no way of knowing how big the

00:06:13 --> 00:06:15 show would become, and the contract

00:06:15 --> 00:06:17 failed to secure better terms. Exhibit

00:06:17 --> 00:06:21 had uh had also hoped that being on MTV

00:06:21 --> 00:06:24 would promote his music by including his

00:06:24 --> 00:06:26 videos, but the opportunity never came

00:06:26 --> 00:06:30 to fruition. As the show p progressed,

00:06:30 --> 00:06:32 exhibit began to feel restricted by the

00:06:32 --> 00:06:34 obligations it's placed on him. So I

00:06:34 --> 00:06:37 like they couldn't renegotiate. That's

00:06:37 --> 00:06:40 crazy. He expressed dissatisfaction with

00:06:40 --> 00:06:42 being unable to tour or pursue other

00:06:42 --> 00:06:44 opportunities due to his commitment to

00:06:44 --> 00:06:47 the show. His frustration only grew as

00:06:47 --> 00:06:49 he realized the financial arrangement

00:06:49 --> 00:06:51 was not improving in line with the

00:06:51 --> 00:06:54 show's growth uh and popularity. He went

00:06:54 --> 00:06:56 on to claim that the situation worsened

00:06:56 --> 00:06:59 when Viacom MTV's parent company began

00:06:59 --> 00:07:02 reducing his earnings. Although his

00:07:02 --> 00:07:05 contract included a clause promising him

00:07:05 --> 00:07:07 15% of all merchandise featuring his

00:07:07 --> 00:07:10 name or likeness, that promise was

00:07:10 --> 00:07:13 undercut. exhibit noticed that while the

00:07:13 --> 00:07:16 first season's DVD box prominently

00:07:16 --> 00:07:19 featured his face, later seasons did

00:07:19 --> 00:07:21 not, with the packaging instead focusing

00:07:22 --> 00:07:24 solely on the cars. This change appeared

00:07:24 --> 00:07:28 to be a deliberate way to avoid paying

00:07:28 --> 00:07:31 him his share of merchandise profits.

00:07:31 --> 00:07:33 Exhibit also alleged that when the show

00:07:33 --> 00:07:35 went into syndication, his music was

00:07:35 --> 00:07:37 removed from the episodes.

00:07:37 --> 00:07:39 This move, he believes, was specifically

00:07:39 --> 00:07:41 to avoid paying him additional

00:07:41 --> 00:07:43 royalties. His story sheds light on the

00:07:43 --> 00:07:46 often unseen struggles artists face

00:07:46 --> 00:07:48 behind the scenes even when their work

00:07:48 --> 00:07:50 is widely

00:07:50 --> 00:07:52 separated. I don't understand. Like I

00:07:52 --> 00:07:54 feel like he should have somehow take

00:07:54 --> 00:07:57 them to court cuz I most definitely

00:07:57 --> 00:07:59 will. Even if I didn't do it then I'm

00:07:59 --> 00:08:01 like I'm we going to take this to court

00:08:01 --> 00:08:04 forever. Forever. I mean, it has to be a

00:08:04 --> 00:08:07 reason why he didn't. Um, because he

00:08:07 --> 00:08:10 seems like a smart dude. It must be some

00:08:10 --> 00:08:13 reasons that we don't understand and why

00:08:13 --> 00:08:15 he couldn't renegotiate his contract. I

00:08:15 --> 00:08:19 I I don't get it cuz $5 an episode,

00:08:19 --> 00:08:23 as big as that show was, I I I truly

00:08:23 --> 00:08:26 don't get it. But and it takes a lot of

00:08:26 --> 00:08:29 courage to even mention that on, you

00:08:29 --> 00:08:33 know, on the uh on his interview. So,

00:08:33 --> 00:08:36 wow. Exhibit. That's crazy. So, anyway,

00:08:36 --> 00:08:39 that's all I got for right now, but

00:08:39 --> 00:08:41 don't forget to come back later and

00:08:41 --> 00:08:44 check out my postings for the Diddy

00:08:44 --> 00:08:47 Mess. And again,

00:08:47 --> 00:08:50 um, what's his name? Kuy is going to

00:08:50 --> 00:08:53 testify today. And you guys, I I'm going

00:08:53 --> 00:08:56 to do something a little different today

00:08:56 --> 00:08:58 on our show. And I'm going to do this

00:08:58 --> 00:09:00 from now on. We're going to do celebrity
