00:00:15 --> 00:00:19 guards at the Intercontinental Hotel.

00:00:39 --> 00:00:41 goodness." Washington Post. Um,
00:00:41 --> 00:00:42 surveillance footage of Shaun Diddy
00:00:42 --> 00:00:44 Combmes attacking Cassie Ventur at the
00:00:44 --> 00:00:48 Intercontinental Hotel in 2016 has been
00:00:48 --> 00:00:50 shown several times at this trial. The
00:00:50 --> 00:00:52 government introduced it during opening
00:00:52 --> 00:00:55 statements along with Israel Flores, a
00:00:55 --> 00:00:57 former security guard at the hotel who
00:00:57 --> 00:00:59 responded to the incident.
00:00:59 --> 00:01:01 The footage shown to jurors was the
00:01:01 --> 00:01:04 surveillance video taken from the hotel,
00:01:04 --> 00:01:05 which is not quite the same as the
00:01:05 --> 00:01:09 footage CNN obtained last year. The CNN
00:01:09 --> 00:01:11 footage was a cell phone recording of
00:01:11 --> 00:01:13 the hotel surveillance footage. The
00:01:14 --> 00:01:15 government is expected to call the video
00:01:16 --> 00:01:18 expert Tuesday to explain the correct
00:01:18 --> 00:01:20 sequent.
00:01:20 --> 00:01:21 Col's lawyers are highly opposed to
00:01:22 --> 00:01:25 showing this footage to jurors again,
00:01:25 --> 00:01:27 uh, calling it unduly
00:01:27 --> 00:01:29 prejuditial. It goes on to say the jury
00:01:30 --> 00:01:33 finally, uh, take their seats and they,
00:01:33 --> 00:01:36 um, the government calls his first
00:01:36 --> 00:01:39 witness, which is Eddie Garcia. Uh,
00:01:39 --> 00:01:41 Garcia, like I said, he's a 33year-old
00:01:41 --> 00:01:44 private security worker. He worked at
00:01:44 --> 00:01:48 the Intercontinental Hotel in 2016, the
00:01:48 --> 00:01:50 year security footage captured Diddy
00:01:50 --> 00:01:53 beating Cassie in the hallway.
00:01:53 --> 00:01:57 Um, it says a hotel security worker
00:01:57 --> 00:02:00 testified that Shaun Col's chief of
00:02:00 --> 00:02:03 staff, Christina Cororum, came to the
00:02:03 --> 00:02:05 Intercontinental and asked to see
00:02:05 --> 00:02:09 surveillance footage on March 5th, 2016,
00:02:09 --> 00:02:12 shortly after Combmes beat Cassie
00:02:12 --> 00:02:15 Ventura. Eddie Garcia said Cororm first
00:02:15 --> 00:02:18 asked for the video in a phone call and
00:02:18 --> 00:02:19 was told she would need to get a
00:02:19 --> 00:02:22 subpoena. When the when the Combmes
00:02:22 --> 00:02:24 executive arrived at the hotel lobby,
00:02:24 --> 00:02:27 Garcia testified she inquired again if
00:02:27 --> 00:02:29 there was a way she could see it so Comb
00:02:30 --> 00:02:31 staff could know what they were dealing
00:02:32 --> 00:02:35 with. Garcia said he apologized to Corm
00:02:35 --> 00:02:37 and insisted again that she need to get
00:02:37 --> 00:02:39 a subpoena, but gave her a brief
00:02:39 --> 00:02:43 description of the footage. He said it's
00:02:43 --> 00:02:46 bad. Diddy report uh repeatedly tried to
00:02:46 --> 00:02:49 obtain hotel security footage of him
00:02:49 --> 00:02:52 beating his then girlfriend Cassie.
00:02:52 --> 00:02:54 Security officer Eddie Garcia testified
00:02:54 --> 00:02:57 and finally handed over tens of
00:02:57 --> 00:02:59 thousands of dollars for the damning
00:02:59 --> 00:03:02 video. Garcia said Combmes first called
00:03:02 --> 00:03:04 him on the hotel security line after the
00:03:04 --> 00:03:07 beating and nervously told him he had a
00:03:07 --> 00:03:09 little too much to drink. He said,
00:03:09 --> 00:03:12 "Colomes intimated that I knew how
00:03:12 --> 00:03:14 things were with women and that one
00:03:14 --> 00:03:15 thing leads to
00:03:15 --> 00:03:18 another." The next time Garcia said
00:03:18 --> 00:03:20 Combmes called his personal cell phone,
00:03:20 --> 00:03:22 he stated that I sounded like a good
00:03:22 --> 00:03:24 guy, that I sounded like I wanted to
00:03:24 --> 00:03:27 help and help and something like this
00:03:27 --> 00:03:29 could ruin him. Garcia told the jury. He
00:03:30 --> 00:03:31 repeated that I sounded like a good guy
00:03:31 --> 00:03:33 and I could help.
00:03:34 --> 00:03:37 Garcia say initially told Garcia said he
00:03:37 --> 00:03:39 he initially told Combmes that he did
00:03:39 --> 00:03:42 not have access to the video but later
00:03:42 --> 00:03:44 reached back out and said his boss was
00:03:44 --> 00:03:47 willing to erase the footage for
00:03:47 --> 00:03:50 $50. He later testified that Combmes
00:03:50 --> 00:03:53 paid a total of
00:03:53 --> 00:03:56 $100. Eddie, my angel, I knew you
00:03:56 --> 00:03:59 could help. I knew you could help it.
00:03:59 --> 00:04:01 and excited," Cololmes replied.
00:04:01 --> 00:04:03 According to Garcia's testimony, the
00:04:03 --> 00:04:06 next day he told the jury, Madrano
00:04:06 --> 00:04:09 directed him to fudge the timestamps on
00:04:09 --> 00:04:12 his shift logs and go to a high-rise in
00:04:12 --> 00:04:15 Los Angeles where he met with Combmes.
00:04:15 --> 00:04:17 "He was smiling, excited, just looked
00:04:17 --> 00:04:19 happy," said Garcia, who added that his
00:04:19 --> 00:04:22 own voice kept cracking with anxiety. He
00:04:22 --> 00:04:24 said he personally handed a thumb drive
00:04:24 --> 00:04:27 with the video to Combmes and assured
00:04:27 --> 00:04:29 him it was the only
00:04:29 --> 00:04:32 copy. It goes on to say when Eddie
00:04:32 --> 00:04:34 Garcia met with Shawn Combmes to sell
00:04:34 --> 00:04:37 him surveillance footage of Combmes
00:04:37 --> 00:04:39 beating Cassie, the security officer
00:04:39 --> 00:04:42 testified he told Combmes he worried
00:04:42 --> 00:04:44 police would come looking for it if
00:04:44 --> 00:04:47 Ventur filed a police report. Combmes
00:04:47 --> 00:04:48 said, "I didn't have to worry about
00:04:48 --> 00:04:50 that." Garcia told the jury, then put
00:04:50 --> 00:04:52 him on the phone with a woman he
00:04:52 --> 00:04:55 understood to be um
00:04:55 --> 00:04:58 Ventura. Garcia said he overheard
00:04:58 --> 00:05:00 Combmes tell her, "Let him know that you
00:05:00 --> 00:05:04 want the video to go away, too." Ventura
00:05:04 --> 00:05:07 told Garcia she had a movie coming out.
00:05:07 --> 00:05:09 He told the jury it wasn't a good time
00:05:09 --> 00:05:11 for this to come out and she wanted it
00:05:11 --> 00:05:14 to go away. The guard said after Shawn
00:05:14 --> 00:05:17 Combmes and Cassie told him they wanted
00:05:17 --> 00:05:20 the security footage kept quiet, hotel
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 security worker Eddie Garcia testified
00:05:23 --> 00:05:25 he signed a non-disclosure agreement,
00:05:26 --> 00:05:28 averaging that the video did not exist
00:05:28 --> 00:05:31 on any other servers and that he would
00:05:31 --> 00:05:34 not divulge any details from the deal.
00:05:34 --> 00:05:36 Garcia testified that Combmes also had
00:05:36 --> 00:05:39 him text photos of the driver's license
00:05:39 --> 00:05:42 as well as IDs for his boss and another
00:05:42 --> 00:05:44 security officer who responded to the
00:05:44 --> 00:05:46 incident so that they were all on the
00:05:46 --> 00:05:47 same
00:05:47 --> 00:05:51 page. After Garcia gave Shawn Combmes a
00:05:51 --> 00:05:53 USB drive with the Intercontinental
00:05:53 --> 00:05:55 Security footage and signed two
00:05:55 --> 00:05:57 contracts, he testified. Combmes stepped
00:05:57 --> 00:05:59 out of the room and returned with the
00:05:59 --> 00:06:01 money with a money counting machine and
00:06:01 --> 00:06:04 a brown paper bag. Garcia said Combmes
00:06:04 --> 00:06:07 pulled bills out of the bag, ran
00:06:07 --> 00:06:10 $100 through the counter, and handed
00:06:10 --> 00:06:12 to handed it to him, warning him not to
00:06:12 --> 00:06:14 make any big purchases.
00:06:14 --> 00:06:17 Garcia, a guard at the hotel, testified
00:06:17 --> 00:06:20 that he gave $50 of the money to his
00:06:20 --> 00:06:22 supervisor who approved the deal with
00:06:22 --> 00:06:25 Combmes. $20 to another guard
00:06:25 --> 00:06:27 involved in the incident and kept
00:06:27 --> 00:06:31 $30 for himself to buy used
00:06:31 --> 00:06:34 vehicle. Prosecutors asked Eddie Garcia
00:06:34 --> 00:06:36 why he was nervous around Shawn Combmes
00:06:36 --> 00:06:38 while the two men allegedly struck a
00:06:38 --> 00:06:41 deal to sell Comb security footage of
00:06:41 --> 00:06:43 him beating Cassie. The hotel guard
00:06:43 --> 00:06:45 began to explain his fear of the hip hop
00:06:45 --> 00:06:48 mogul before a sharp objection uh from
00:06:48 --> 00:06:50 the defense attorney halted the line of
00:06:50 --> 00:06:52 questioning. Prosecutors are trying to
00:06:52 --> 00:06:54 provide the jury with evidence that
00:06:54 --> 00:06:56 supports racketeering charges which
00:06:56 --> 00:06:58 includes making threats to extort
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 individuals and companies. The imagery
00:07:01 --> 00:07:03 in this testimony is strong. Paper bags
00:07:03 --> 00:07:06 filled with cash, bodyguards, money
00:07:06 --> 00:07:10 counters, bands of cash, and ve
00:07:10 --> 00:07:12 threats. All right. So, I'll be back
00:07:12 --> 00:07:16 with my um second part. Oh, you know
00:07:16 --> 00:07:18 what? I can I think I can go ahead and
00:07:18 --> 00:07:20 just do the second part of this. Uh
00:07:20 --> 00:07:22 defense attorney Brian Steels now
00:07:22 --> 00:07:26 cross-examining Eddie Garcia. Um he
00:07:26 --> 00:07:32 says, let's
00:07:32 --> 00:07:36 see, Steel rose to fame. Oh, okay. They
00:07:36 --> 00:07:39 talking about Steel's
00:07:39 --> 00:07:42 uh Steel's credentials. Shawn Holmes
00:07:42 --> 00:07:44 leaned over the defense table and looked
00:07:44 --> 00:07:47 intently at a monitor on his lead
00:07:47 --> 00:07:48 council's desk while the prosecution and
00:07:48 --> 00:07:51 defense teams were in a sidebar
00:07:51 --> 00:07:53 discussing with the judge. The monitor
00:07:53 --> 00:07:54 contains a live transcript of the
00:07:54 --> 00:07:56 proceedings, including sidebars, which
00:07:56 --> 00:07:58 are drowned out by the white noise of
00:07:58 --> 00:08:00 the rest of the court can hear.
00:08:00 --> 00:08:03 Eddie Garcia's number was saved in the
00:08:03 --> 00:08:05 phone of Shawn Combmes chief of staff,
00:08:05 --> 00:08:08 Christina Cororm, misspelled as Eddie,
00:08:08 --> 00:08:11 my angel. Garcia, a hotel security
00:08:11 --> 00:08:14 worker who says Combmes pay him and his
00:08:14 --> 00:08:15 colleagues
00:08:15 --> 00:08:18 $100 for a video of Combmes beating
00:08:18 --> 00:08:20 Cassie Ventur, testified that the music
00:08:20 --> 00:08:23 producer repeatedly called him his angel
00:08:23 --> 00:08:25 and told him God had put the two of them
00:08:25 --> 00:08:28 together. But when Garcia asked Combmes
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 for help finding work after he handed
00:08:30 --> 00:08:33 over the video, he testified Comolmes
00:08:33 --> 00:08:35 did not respond to his Instagram
00:08:35 --> 00:08:38 message. All right, guys. So, that is it
