[00:00:13] Alright y'all get ready for another edition of News and Trendz with your host Dave and Len

[00:00:32] Welcome welcome welcome to News and Trendz with Dave and Len

[00:00:35] This is one of your hosts David Coker, the prior of Dave Mark King

[00:00:40] Promoter, event planner, all around good guy

[00:00:44] And hanging out with my partner Mr. Leonard Young

[00:00:48] Just wanted to say what's up sir

[00:00:51] David everything is good

[00:00:53] How are you?

[00:00:55] Alright, alright, you're sweet, okay alright

[00:00:59] Dave you had just threw me off you messed up my bio by saying how are you

[00:01:03] I was trying to mess you up, I got you, I got you

[00:01:07] But everything, everything is good

[00:01:11] I'll just gotta say all of them are faithful listeners

[00:01:15] They already know that I'm their favorite good guy

[00:01:18] So they already know, because Dave, Dave

[00:01:21] I try to make it easy for them, I say the same thing every time

[00:01:24] So they probably already know what I'm gonna say

[00:01:27] Yeah well you know everybody love Robin too

[00:01:31] And he just cares

[00:01:34] He was just Batman, I'm just like you know

[00:01:38] But anyway what's going on anything

[00:01:43] Yeah man everything is good, just some busy weekends

[00:01:46] We survived NASCAR at the campground

[00:01:49] Other than that trying to get back on my Triathlon training plan

[00:01:55] And

[00:01:57] Yeah, yeah I know, waiting for the Olympics

[00:02:00] The next Olympic guide, Los Angeles is going to be doing

[00:02:03] They're gonna bring the Triathline over there to the Olympics

[00:02:06] And then it's gonna be competing

[00:02:08] Well Dave so I know you're not really into sports

[00:02:12] But

[00:02:15] You may not have heard the Triathlon news that's going around for the Olympics

[00:02:21] The water that they were planning to do the Triathlon swimming

[00:02:28] And swimming is a very first portion has been contaminated

[00:02:33] I did see that a couple days ago

[00:02:35] And they are not sure if they will be able to I guess clear it up

[00:02:40] But they were working on an alternative

[00:02:45] Place with the swimming part

[00:02:48] Okay so that may be true I haven't heard that

[00:02:51] But if they can

[00:02:53] Yeah I thought I didn't see that

[00:02:55] If they cannot then there's an event in Triathlon called the Doathalon

[00:03:00] So instead of swim, bike, run

[00:03:03] This would probably be a run, bike, run event

[00:03:09] Which of course favor, I mean if you're a decent to a strong swimmer

[00:03:15] Then that may give you a disadvantage because it's taking out your

[00:03:19] Maybe your specialty so that's one thing

[00:03:22] So I guess it would be good if they found another place to do the swim

[00:03:25] But of course in Triathlon back to back

[00:03:27] They would have to be able to do the swim, bike and run all in the same place

[00:03:31] So

[00:03:32] And they couldn't use the pool then right

[00:03:35] Because that

[00:03:37] Well if it was a normal competition they probably could and everything based on time

[00:03:45] But since the Olympics everybody wants to go head to head

[00:03:48] And a swimming pool fight just wouldn't be big enough

[00:03:52] Right

[00:03:55] Okay well let's hope they get that straight now

[00:04:00] I mean this is the second time in the Olympics that something happened with the water

[00:04:05] Something like that they couldn't go in it or something

[00:04:07] It seemed like they were jumping out there after a few years back

[00:04:10] A few Olympics back

[00:04:12] Oh yeah remember the water was contaminated and they couldn't

[00:04:16] They were worried about doing the canoeing or

[00:04:19] Oh okay

[00:04:21] Yeah that was then

[00:04:25] What was it Brazil or no in Rio

[00:04:28] Rio or somewhere else

[00:04:30] Yeah yeah yeah Rio de Janeiro

[00:04:33] That's where it was yeah

[00:04:35] And the water was contaminated remember they had to clean all that stuff out of the water

[00:04:38] You remember that

[00:04:40] Not really but I believe it

[00:04:43] Yeah yeah so

[00:04:45] But hopefully they get that straightened out

[00:04:48] I was watching some of the

[00:04:50] I'm getting hyped for the track and field already because

[00:04:53] I watched the Penn Relays

[00:04:56] The other day

[00:04:58] They had that on TV

[00:05:00] And I also saw

[00:05:02] Richardson lost in the 200

[00:05:05] The other day

[00:05:08] At the Diamond Classic

[00:05:10] You saw that

[00:05:12] But you know I mean

[00:05:14] Because you know the 200

[00:05:16] I feel like she's developing in the 200

[00:05:18] I mean the 100 sorry Ben

[00:05:20] But you know I feel like she's still developing in the 200

[00:05:23] So I give her a little bit of grace

[00:05:26] That girl from Britain did

[00:05:29] That field up though man

[00:05:32] Yeah so but um

[00:05:35] You know what I'm saying well okay

[00:05:38] You know you can tell the track is starting to heat up a little bit

[00:05:41] I love track and field man

[00:05:44] So let's just hope that

[00:05:47] That she gets herself in shape by the time

[00:05:50] The Olympic trials comes up

[00:05:53] Other than that

[00:05:56] I guess spring is finally here to

[00:05:59] Yeah these are

[00:06:01] You know what I was waiting all year for good weather

[00:06:04] And now I kind of miss that cool windy breeze

[00:06:07] Yeah well

[00:06:10] Well I know

[00:06:13] Friday and Saturdays

[00:06:15] It's supposed to be a little cooler like in the 60s or something like that bro

[00:06:18] Maybe you might have it

[00:06:21] So we will see

[00:06:24] All right well I guess we

[00:06:27] Got a few things to talk about tonight

[00:06:30] And actually we will have

[00:06:33] We're planning to have a guest join us tonight as well

[00:06:36] Um

[00:06:39] If we tell them

[00:06:42] Well I guess let me tell them

[00:06:45] Yeah so we're going to be joined

[00:06:48] By the event promoter

[00:06:51] Um it's Jordan there

[00:06:54] Mr. Samuel Bailey

[00:06:57] A lot of you guys who listen who are in this area

[00:07:00] Um probably know Sam Bailey from a lot of his

[00:07:03] Events with the men of distinction and other events that he's done

[00:07:06] Um

[00:07:09] But um he's going to be joining us

[00:07:12] Um shortly

[00:07:15] So we will be bringing him on and doing an interview

[00:07:18] And he's going to be talking about some of the things he's got coming up

[00:07:21] In one particular event that he's doing

[00:07:24] In conjunction with Leonard and the DNR campground

[00:07:27] So we'll let him tell you all about that

[00:07:30] When he comes on okay

[00:07:33] But it should be it might be something you guys want to

[00:07:36] Definitely mark on your calendar because it's going to be a nice day

[00:07:39] Um and definitely something you want to check out

[00:07:42] So all right

[00:07:45] So um while we're waiting on him

[00:07:48] To join us we're going to go ahead and get started with our first

[00:07:51] Story

[00:07:54] Okay and um

[00:07:57] This story is about um

[00:08:00] Well I'm just going to go ahead and read it

[00:08:03] Stephen Jackson and for those who don't know Stephen Jackson

[00:08:06] He's an ex NBA basketball player professional basketball player

[00:08:09] Um he has a podcast now

[00:08:12] He has a pretty popular podcast that he does

[00:08:15] With a couple of other basketball players

[00:08:17] Ex basketball players

[00:08:19] But Stephen Jackson and this story was big

[00:08:22] About a week ago

[00:08:24] Blasigal King for demeaning Dawn Staley

[00:08:27] In an interview about South Carolina's championship

[00:08:30] Um of course you know

[00:08:33] College basketball has been hot

[00:08:35] Women's college basketball has been hot

[00:08:37] Dawn Staley and the South Carolina gang cocks

[00:08:40] They had a championship a few weeks back

[00:08:43] And the story is about that

[00:08:46] It says basketball fans stopped everywhere

[00:08:49] Um stopped everything that they were doing

[00:08:52] The watch Dawn Staley and her South Carolina gang cocks

[00:08:55] Women's team make history with an undefeated season

[00:08:58] And NCAA championship

[00:09:01] Now only not only did the lady

[00:09:04] I like how they put this

[00:09:07] But they also beat

[00:09:10] No pun intended

[00:09:13] But they also beat the biggest and the most

[00:09:16] Talked about playing in college hoops

[00:09:19] Men or women

[00:09:21] In the form of Miss Caitlyn Clark

[00:09:23] From Iowa University

[00:09:25] The sports media spent

[00:09:28] Significantly more time talking about Clark

[00:09:31] And her quest to advance last season

[00:09:34] Um championship lost to Angel Reese

[00:09:37] And the ladies of LSU

[00:09:40] According to Daily Mail

[00:09:43] Doing a recent interview about her big win

[00:09:46] Dawn Staley spoke to Gale King

[00:09:49] And a comment that Gale King made

[00:09:52] Grew up with Stephen Jackson the wrong way

[00:09:55] And not just Stephen Jackson

[00:09:57] Believe me a lot of people caught this

[00:10:00] We were all cheering for Iowa

[00:10:03] And the ladies of LSU

[00:10:06] And Kate and Clark said King

[00:10:09] And you broke everybody's heart

[00:10:12] And she smiled and she just kind of left

[00:10:15] About it and then Dawn just kind of gave her a look

[00:10:18] Stephen Jackson one half of the all

[00:10:21] The smoke podcast recently took to social media

[00:10:24] To share some harsh words for Oprah

[00:10:27] Oprah Throne

[00:10:30] And she said nobody

[00:10:33] Hold on for a minute

[00:10:38] But you cannot demean Dawn Staley like that

[00:10:41] He went on to say who is we

[00:10:44] Who is we

[00:10:46] All the black people I know was rooting for Dawn Staley

[00:10:49] We're all fans of Kate and Clark

[00:10:52] But the way you put it

[00:10:54] That was trash

[00:10:57] King is no stranger to sports controversy

[00:11:00] He triggered a number of people including one Snoop Dogg

[00:11:03] When she mentioned Brian's lead sexual assault case

[00:11:07] During an obituary TV segment

[00:11:11] What say you

[00:11:14] Do you feel like Gale King disrespected

[00:11:17] Dawn Staley with her presumptuous comment

[00:11:21] How we were all rooting for Kate and Clark

[00:11:27] Now I did see this segment when it happened

[00:11:31] And Gale King

[00:11:34] It's not the first time she has been

[00:11:38] Accused of being anti black in the past

[00:11:42] You know

[00:11:45] Like her colleagues

[00:11:49] Were mortified when she said it because they were saying

[00:11:53] No, that's not I was rooting for South Carolina

[00:11:56] I was rooting for South Carolina

[00:11:58] You heard of Nate Burlison who was black

[00:12:01] I was rooting for South Carolina

[00:12:04] He said it would have been nice to see Caitlin

[00:12:07] Win because of everything she has accomplished this year

[00:12:11] But he said

[00:12:14] I like the way it came out

[00:12:17] So you know

[00:12:20] How do you say to a championship winning coach

[00:12:24] We wish the other team won

[00:12:27] What are your thoughts on that

[00:12:30] Was that disrespectful or was that Gale King being Gale King

[00:12:34] I think it was both

[00:12:38] You know I think and I mean at the end of the day

[00:12:41] Everybody can have their preferences

[00:12:43] And I mean we don't know why Gale King

[00:12:46] Wanted that team to win

[00:12:49] But like I heard someone say a couple weeks ago

[00:12:52] That they were not voting for a black community

[00:12:55] So I feel like

[00:13:02] And I mean not even play the black card

[00:13:07] But they should have been rooting for Don Staley

[00:13:11] And if they were not

[00:13:14] Then they should have just kind of kept that to the

[00:13:16] Like you know that was a comment that didn't even need to be made

[00:13:19] You know it's almost like

[00:13:22] Black people who are voting for Trump

[00:13:25] They say okay you got both of them to do it

[00:13:27] But you know you don't have to go around here

[00:13:29] Making yourself look bad

[00:13:32] Right, right, I agree

[00:13:35] And that definitely was not a good look on her behalf

[00:13:39] Now and like you just said

[00:13:42] I mean we've been hearing about Oprah and Gale for years

[00:13:46] And you know as popular as they are

[00:13:49] Now let me throw a little caveat in here

[00:13:53] Now we don't know what anybody does behind the scenes

[00:13:57] You know even though they're

[00:14:01] Visana's show what they show

[00:14:05] We don't know what's really

[00:14:08] You know what their philanthropy is

[00:14:11] As far as giving money in

[00:14:13] And you know donations to different charities

[00:14:17] And so forth because they said that about Michael Jordan

[00:14:20] Michael Jordan was one of the other people

[00:14:23] But then you know recently there was

[00:14:27] Like a little documentary on

[00:14:31] That kind of showed this guy

[00:14:34] Gives to a lot of different black causes

[00:14:37] He just prefers not to get any notoriety

[00:14:40] You know and so he's been doing

[00:14:43] More than what people thought he was doing

[00:14:46] You know what I mean

[00:14:48] Not necessarily what Oprah and Gale

[00:14:51] Do behind the scenes but I mean

[00:14:54] Even though it doesn't appear there's a lot going on

[00:14:57] Behind the scenes

[00:14:59] When you make comments like this

[00:15:01] You're interviewing the coach

[00:15:03] You might have brought Iowa team on

[00:15:06] And Iowa's coach it was just like what happened last year

[00:15:09] When Angel Reese and LSU won

[00:15:12] The championship

[00:15:14] And Jill Biden wanted to

[00:15:17] Invitation to not only LSU

[00:15:20] But to Iowa too and they lost

[00:15:23] Exactly

[00:15:25] You know

[00:15:27] That would have been the ultimate slap in the face

[00:15:31] We can look at it all we want as far as

[00:15:36] South Carolina

[00:15:39] Basically is 100% black

[00:15:42] I mean with a deception of a couple white players

[00:15:45] On the team

[00:15:47] Iowa complete opposite

[00:15:50] You know basically 100% white

[00:15:53] With a couple black players on the team

[00:15:56] So you know it always comes down to

[00:16:01] Black or white

[00:16:03] I mean black and white

[00:16:05] And we have to

[00:16:06] And we hate to say it

[00:16:08] After all these years but that's what it comes in

[00:16:10] It's just like right now the big controversy is

[00:16:13] Remember we were talking about the salary

[00:16:16] For Kailin

[00:16:18] What she's going to be making coming into the league

[00:16:21] Under 100,000

[00:16:23] Her first contract is going to be for

[00:16:25] 338,000 dollars

[00:16:27] For three years

[00:16:33] She's going to be making under 100,000 dollars

[00:16:37] No I think that was for four years

[00:16:40] She's going to be making her first year salary

[00:16:43] Is going to be 76,000 dollars

[00:16:45] And everybody of course is mortified because of that

[00:16:48] Now keep in mind

[00:16:50] Her contract no different than

[00:16:52] Aliyah Boston played for South Carolina

[00:16:55] Was the number one pick last year

[00:16:57] Or anybody prior to her

[00:17:00] They all took that money

[00:17:02] Everybody was saying well it's a travesty

[00:17:05] They should give Caitlyn more money

[00:17:07] Because she's going to put people in the stands

[00:17:09] But so does everybody else

[00:17:12] That's playing the game

[00:17:17] So now Nike is giving her

[00:17:19] You see that contract that Nike was offering

[00:17:21] Which was 28 million for ten years

[00:17:23] In her own sneaker

[00:17:25] Did she turn that down?

[00:17:27] No I think she finally said yes to it

[00:17:30] I see that

[00:17:32] I think she's going to be making her first year salary

[00:17:35] I think she finally said yes to it

[00:17:38] I see something where they talked about her

[00:17:40] She was a little hesitant at first

[00:17:42] Because people were saying it's not enough money

[00:17:45] She still being

[00:17:46] Because they said that deal offered to a man

[00:17:48] Would have been triple the money

[00:17:53] But you know

[00:17:55] I mean

[00:17:57] But that deal wasn't offered to Aliyah Boston

[00:18:00] It wasn't offered to Asia Wilson

[00:18:02] Who's been in the league

[00:18:04] Is a two time MVP

[00:18:07] Two time champion

[00:18:10] And they didn't offer that kind of money to her

[00:18:12] She's the face of the league right now

[00:18:14] But she's black

[00:18:16] You know

[00:18:18] When we have these type of situations

[00:18:21] And what we call black on black crime

[00:18:24] Because basically that's what there was

[00:18:26] Black on black crime

[00:18:28] But Gail just totally slapped

[00:18:31] Don't stay only in the face by asking that question

[00:18:34] You know

[00:18:36] Or saying what she said

[00:18:38] So we're going to keep an eye on this

[00:18:40] Because everybody you know of course they're trying to make

[00:18:42] Everything that Caitlyn does

[00:18:44] We hear her name every day just about

[00:18:47] So we're going to pay attention to what happens as far as

[00:18:51] How she's reported

[00:18:54] And covered

[00:18:56] As opposed to

[00:18:58] They're already out the black stars that have already been playing the game

[00:19:00] For a long time already

[00:19:02] Caitlyn hasn't played one game yet

[00:19:04] And she's getting all this press and all this money

[00:19:07] Her jersey sold out

[00:19:10] Within hours

[00:19:13] Her jersey number

[00:19:15] I mean you know so

[00:19:17] We'll see what happens

[00:19:19] We definitely will so

[00:19:21] Dave just let you know we have a

[00:19:23] Our special guest

[00:19:25] Oh okay

[00:19:27] Alright well let's go ahead

[00:19:29] Let's go ahead and bring them in

[00:19:32] And

[00:19:35] Say hi to our guest

[00:19:37] Alright give me one second

[00:19:43] Of course my thing is moving a little slow

[00:19:46] Of course

[00:19:48] Oh you met the computer

[00:19:51] I mean you met the computer

[00:19:53] Alright alright

[00:19:55] Yep Sam are you with us

[00:20:01] Okay so here's the connecting audio

[00:20:04] Okay

[00:20:07] Sam are you with us

[00:20:10] Yes I am can you hear me

[00:20:12] Yes we can how are you

[00:20:14] All this well

[00:20:16] Good good good

[00:20:18] Alright Dave you want to

[00:20:20] Do the

[00:20:22] Well what we're going to do

[00:20:25] Let's

[00:20:27] Let's

[00:20:29] Go ahead and read his bio

[00:20:31] So we can let people know who he is

[00:20:33] You got that in front of you

[00:20:35] Yep

[00:20:37] Let's talk about who this guest of ours is

[00:20:40] In case people don't know

[00:20:42] I don't know who would know who he is

[00:20:44] I mean well there are people in this area anyway

[00:20:47] Dave you know it's not even this area

[00:20:50] We're talking about New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia

[00:20:53] Where Maryland, D.C.

[00:20:55] Virginia and probably South Carolina too

[00:20:57] North Carolina, South Carolina

[00:20:59] We might want to go to California

[00:21:01] New Mexico you know but anyway

[00:21:03] But

[00:21:05] Go ahead

[00:21:07] Let's talk a little bit about who we have on today

[00:21:11] Yep so today is our

[00:21:13] Today our guest is Sam Bailey

[00:21:15] Of a Wilmington gentleman

[00:21:17] A distinction he was born and raised

[00:21:19] On the eastern shore of Virginia

[00:21:21] He DJed from the age of 13 to 17

[00:21:25] And danced house around the

[00:21:27] Aquamock

[00:21:29] He's gonna have to correct me later

[00:21:31] In Northampton counties

[00:21:33] He arrived in Delaware at the age of 16

[00:21:35] Attending Caesar Rodney High School

[00:21:37] In Delaware State College slash University

[00:21:41] He has held senior level management positions

[00:21:44] With three major corporations

[00:21:46] Prior to retirement

[00:21:48] He has always loved music and to dance

[00:21:51] He enjoys stories of

[00:21:54] Excuse me of his grandmother dressing up

[00:21:56] And traveling to Harlem, New York to party

[00:21:59] He said I was a dancing showstopper

[00:22:04] Oh Dave we're gonna have to get some

[00:22:07] Replays of the dancing showstopper

[00:22:10] He said he was a dancing showstopper

[00:22:12] As a teen traveling to different

[00:22:14] Dance spots with his dad

[00:22:17] And he could also run the rack shooting pool

[00:22:20] After a brief spot stop in Denton, Maryland

[00:22:24] In Dover, Delaware he relocated to Philadelphia

[00:22:28] Where nightlife was seven nights of the week

[00:22:32] It was a wonderful adventure navigating

[00:22:35] The music and dance scenes as oldies

[00:22:38] Were always a mainstay along with

[00:22:40] Great Saturday afternoon jazz jam sessions

[00:22:43] Amazingly many of the folks that he

[00:22:46] Befriended in the early 80s had been

[00:22:49] Some of his biggest supporters

[00:22:52] Over the years even today

[00:22:55] In the late 80s a group of them

[00:22:58] Started bar hopping in Wilmington

[00:23:01] Delaware on Fridays after work

[00:23:04] Eventually that led to a Thanksgiving dinner party

[00:23:07] Hosted by the men from the Friday group

[00:23:11] A year later they decided to do their first event

[00:23:14] At the Billie Holiday Club

[00:23:17] They called their group the Friday Club

[00:23:21] Wilmington's gentlemen of distinction

[00:23:24] Was born in 1991

[00:23:27] Keeping it upscale they held parties

[00:23:30] At the Continental Ballroom, Crystal Ballroom

[00:23:33] Christina River Club and the Double Tree

[00:23:37] In 2004 they merged with the Philadelphia

[00:23:40] Entertainment Group called the inner circle

[00:23:43] Until August of 2014

[00:23:46] And then they re-emerged as a solo group

[00:23:49] On January 2nd 2016

[00:23:52] With their first event at the waterfall

[00:23:55] And actually I think I might have been at that event

[00:23:58] With the exception of one event at the Clarion

[00:24:01] In Newcastle and one event at the Double Tree

[00:24:04] Downtown all of their events have been

[00:24:07] At the waterfall which is in the Claymine

[00:24:10] Area of Delaware since 2016

[00:24:13] With most being the entire weekend

[00:24:16] Their first outdoor concert

[00:24:19] Is June 8th 2024

[00:24:22] At GNR Campground and without further ado

[00:24:25] Sam we would like to welcome you to the show

[00:24:28] How are you today? Well thank you

[00:24:31] All is welcome my brothers

[00:24:34] Alright, alright, alright

[00:24:37] Normally and they will do it too

[00:24:40] Normally when we have a guest that come on that we know

[00:24:43] Will usually tell how we met them

[00:24:46] And to be honest Sam I can't remember how I met you

[00:24:49] Like I know I've known you since

[00:24:52] At least about 2016-2017

[00:24:55] But I'm not exactly sure

[00:24:58] How we came in contact

[00:25:01] I think it goes back further than that

[00:25:04] It goes back to

[00:25:07] When you were first doing

[00:25:09] DelawareBlack.com

[00:25:12] Or maybe it wasn't when you were first doing it

[00:25:15] But it was early 2000s

[00:25:18] And you would post my events

[00:25:22] And I was like you were living

[00:25:25] In Newcastle over

[00:25:28] By Walmart

[00:25:31] Oh yep the condo, okay so that was probably

[00:25:34] 2016

[00:25:37] I moved there in 2016

[00:25:42] Or I like to say I escaped

[00:25:45] To there

[00:25:48] A vampy line

[00:25:51] I escaped to there

[00:25:54] So you're the fish that got away

[00:25:57] Well no no no I'm the fish that survived

[00:26:00] I'll be like

[00:26:02] Yeah he got off the hook

[00:26:05] But so Sam of course

[00:26:08] We want to welcome you to the show

[00:26:11] Now reading your bio this is very interesting

[00:26:14] So you were DJing in dance halls

[00:26:17] From the age of 13 to 17

[00:26:20] Can you tell us a little bit about how that developed

[00:26:23] Well my father

[00:26:26] Like the frequent dance spots

[00:26:29] In Acomac and Northampton County

[00:26:32] And fortunately for me

[00:26:35] He had a good friend that was a DJ

[00:26:38] He also loved to dance and have a good time

[00:26:41] So he asked

[00:26:44] My father if he thought

[00:26:47] I'd be interested in spending records

[00:26:50] For him because that's what they called it

[00:26:53] You had two turntables on a stand

[00:26:56] And you had a bunch of 45s

[00:26:59] And you put the records on and played them

[00:27:02] And fortunately enough

[00:27:05] For me I couldn't say no

[00:27:08] Because you know

[00:27:11] At that tender age

[00:27:14] I can go out with the adults

[00:27:17] And let them

[00:27:20] They'll dance to my music that I'm playing

[00:27:23] It was a big thrill for me and to get paid to do it

[00:27:26] So there was times that we had

[00:27:29] We had gigs

[00:27:32] Four times a week

[00:27:35] And I was the rich kid in school

[00:27:38] I had plenty of money

[00:27:41] To do my own school shopping

[00:27:44] Year round

[00:27:47] It was lucrative for me at the time

[00:27:50] Okay

[00:27:53] And then also according to your bio

[00:27:56] When I guess in the late 80s

[00:27:59] When

[00:28:02] I can expand on that for you

[00:28:05] That was when

[00:28:08] The banking industry

[00:28:11] Was in full bloom in Wilmington

[00:28:14] A bunch of folks in the banking industry

[00:28:17] Would meet

[00:28:20] At the

[00:28:22] I think it used to be called the Holiday Inn at the time

[00:28:25] For where the double tree is now

[00:28:28] And we would meet every Friday after work

[00:28:31] And talk over

[00:28:34] Just world affairs, what was going on

[00:28:37] Locally and sort of debate each other

[00:28:40] As to how we stood on these issues

[00:28:43] And it was

[00:28:46] It was really led by a lady

[00:28:49] Named Daisy Jackson

[00:28:52] Who was an educator

[00:28:55] And a member of Balthill AME

[00:28:58] Daisy was instrumental

[00:29:01] In starting the Daisy

[00:29:04] She was instrumental in starting a tour

[00:29:07] Program at Balthill

[00:29:10] Unfortunately Daisy passed away

[00:29:13] On the opening night at Smokies

[00:29:16] On Market Street

[00:29:19] Massive panorism

[00:29:22] And passed away

[00:29:25] And they named the program at Balthill

[00:29:28] In her honor

[00:29:31] So as we did events

[00:29:34] We would party on Saturday and go to Balthill

[00:29:37] And Sunday and give Balthill the money

[00:29:40] Now how did it come along

[00:29:43] That you know I guess

[00:29:46] You know going out you said you know what

[00:29:49] Less form a group

[00:29:52] And less start doing events

[00:29:55] How did that talk come around

[00:29:58] And then who were I guess

[00:30:01] How many and who were some of those founding members

[00:30:04] Along with yourself

[00:30:07] All the men in the group decided to cook

[00:30:10] A Thanksgiving dinner and invite each one of us

[00:30:13] Invited two or three of our best

[00:30:16] Female friends to attend

[00:30:19] And it went over so big

[00:30:22] I think we spent about

[00:30:25] We spent about six seven hundred dollars

[00:30:28] Over the weekend because it went so good

[00:30:31] The first day that we cooked another Thanksgiving dinner

[00:30:34] And we just parted the whole weekend

[00:30:37] Had a house full of

[00:30:40] Friends

[00:30:43] All weekend

[00:30:46] So the next year came about

[00:30:49] And we were looking at each other saying

[00:30:52] We spent about eight hundred dollars last year out of our pockets

[00:30:55] How can we subsidize this

[00:30:58] Somebody said well why don't we

[00:31:01] Have a little gig there

[00:31:04] Throw a DJ in and charge

[00:31:07] Five dollars at the door and it was a really

[00:31:10] Successful night

[00:31:13] I think we netted over

[00:31:16] Seven hundred bucks and charged five dollars

[00:31:19] And we were running to

[00:31:22] Waltz

[00:31:25] Bind fifty wings at a time

[00:31:28] It was a glorious time

[00:31:31] But all of that was organized

[00:31:34] Between seven of us

[00:31:37] There was Kermit Wilson, Jerry Logan

[00:31:40] John Barnes, Lonell Henson

[00:31:43] George Evans

[00:31:46] Eugene Person and myself

[00:31:49] So we just kept it going

[00:31:52] Until it was over

[00:31:55] So we just kept it going until

[00:31:58] Probably early

[00:32:01] 2000s we lost two members

[00:32:04] That

[00:32:07] They just wasn't interested in doing it anymore

[00:32:10] And

[00:32:13] The five of us kept it going and now we're down to three

[00:32:16] And I'm assuming that's yourself

[00:32:19] George and Eugene Person

[00:32:22] Okay, I understand

[00:32:25] Yeah it's just the three of us

[00:32:28] And you know they

[00:32:31] It's a labor of love

[00:32:34] I enjoy doing it and I've been a people person all my life

[00:32:37] And I just love to see people

[00:32:40] Dress up and have a good time

[00:32:43] You know life is stressful

[00:32:46] Yeah definitely

[00:32:49] You know we can be a good guy

[00:32:52] And I've lived for a few hours

[00:32:55] Where they can just

[00:32:58] Feel like kings and queens

[00:33:01] In a great environment

[00:33:04] Then so be it

[00:33:07] So for anyone who's not familiar with

[00:33:10] The Wilmington gentlemen of distinction

[00:33:13] Events if somebody was coming to one of your

[00:33:16] Events what could they expect?

[00:33:18] They should expect professionalism

[00:33:21] I am a

[00:33:24] Gun hold

[00:33:27] You just got to

[00:33:30] Provide excellence to people

[00:33:33] Our people deserve that

[00:33:36] And that's what we do

[00:33:39] We do upscale

[00:33:42] You dress up

[00:33:45] You come out to an excellent facility

[00:33:48] You eat well

[00:33:51] At least once if not twice

[00:33:54] And you have a variety

[00:33:57] Of entertainment

[00:34:00] You know we do oldies in one room

[00:34:03] We do a live band

[00:34:06] And old school hip hop

[00:34:09] In another room and in the third room

[00:34:12] We do lion dancing and karaoke

[00:34:15] Now at the

[00:34:18] When we do our all white

[00:34:21] Which is coming up on August 17

[00:34:24] At waterfalls

[00:34:27] We do indoor outdoor for the all white

[00:34:30] And back in the wedding area

[00:34:33] Outside we do comedy

[00:34:36] And we have a DJ back there

[00:34:39] When you first come outside

[00:34:42] We have karaoke

[00:34:45] And then we have everything I mentioned

[00:34:48] At first in the other rooms

[00:34:51] Live band

[00:34:54] Old school hip hop

[00:34:57] Karaoke

[00:35:00] Lion dance and the oldies room

[00:35:03] Ok now this is by one of the biggest

[00:35:06] I really think what you have done

[00:35:09] And are currently doing is amazing

[00:35:12] Because I'm sure Dave can tell you the same

[00:35:15] And I'm sure you've probably witnessed numerous

[00:35:19] In the event promotion industry

[00:35:22] There are people who come and go

[00:35:25] There are some people who

[00:35:28] Probably you know stuck around too long

[00:35:31] And then there's probably some people who did a great job

[00:35:34] But just weren't able to

[00:35:37] You know sustain over the years

[00:35:40] Now I know you talked about professionalism

[00:35:43] You talked about quality

[00:35:46] You talked about consistency

[00:35:49] But can you go a little deeper like what

[00:35:52] Why do you think

[00:35:55] Wilmington gentlemen of distinction can still be

[00:35:58] You know in this current day and age

[00:36:01] As relevant as

[00:36:04] Events where you know

[00:36:07] A lot of people who are

[00:36:10] You know maybe better venues, better marketing

[00:36:13] Better social media

[00:36:16] Different people are using a whole lot of different technology

[00:36:19] Why do you think your organization has been able to

[00:36:22] Stand the test of time

[00:36:25] Well I think one of the things

[00:36:28] You know is given

[00:36:31] Given an event

[00:36:34] That people know

[00:36:37] Not only can come to for one night

[00:36:40] But they can come on Friday

[00:36:43] And we do the entire weekend

[00:36:46] With you know Friday night we do a little meet and greet

[00:36:49] And we primarily started doing that

[00:36:52] Because we had so many people coming from

[00:36:55] So far distances and they wanted to come

[00:36:58] They didn't want to come on Saturday

[00:37:01] And have to get dressed and go right to the venue

[00:37:04] So we gave them something to do on Friday

[00:37:07] So now if they're coming from North Carolina

[00:37:10] Ohio, Connecticut, New York

[00:37:13] They drive here on Friday

[00:37:16] And they can relax check into the hotel

[00:37:19] Relax a couple hours and they come down

[00:37:22] And meet people that they've met

[00:37:25] That they've met at other events

[00:37:28] That we've done

[00:37:31] So like a many reunion meet and greet

[00:37:34] On Friday night and that's the ice

[00:37:37] Always the ice breaker for the weekend

[00:37:40] And then of course

[00:37:42] Saturday you know tax free shopping

[00:37:45] In Delaware is a big thing

[00:37:48] To people coming from out of town

[00:37:51] And then of course

[00:37:53] Saturday night is the big night

[00:37:55] And then Sunday morning we sent them home

[00:37:58] With a jazz breakfast

[00:38:00] We have Tony Smith and his group

[00:38:03] And has been doing our jazz breakfast

[00:38:06] For years now

[00:38:09] And that gets back to the consistency

[00:38:12] That we talked about earlier

[00:38:15] My entertainment team

[00:38:18] Never changes unless there's

[00:38:21] Unless somebody have a big gig

[00:38:24] That they can't get out of

[00:38:27] My entertainment team never changes

[00:38:30] AJ Rivers is my oldest DJ

[00:38:33] He's been there since

[00:38:36] Probably

[00:38:39] 2021

[00:38:42] 2020

[00:38:45] Before he became my oldest

[00:38:48] DJ he was my

[00:38:51] Line dance DJ

[00:38:54] But he's been with us for a while

[00:38:57] Darrell Taylor decided to retire

[00:39:00] From DJing and do karaoke

[00:39:03] So AJ moved into his spot

[00:39:06] We have Doc B

[00:39:09] Who is local

[00:39:12] Doc is in our hip hop room

[00:39:15] Old school hip hop

[00:39:17] All the stuff we don't do

[00:39:20] No profanity music at all events

[00:39:23] We're respectful and that's the way it will be

[00:39:26] Always speak

[00:39:29] But then over in the line dance

[00:39:32] In karaoke room we have

[00:39:35] Bernadette Bernat who has

[00:39:38] Traveled the world teaching

[00:39:41] Line dance

[00:39:44] She's probably one of the most renowned

[00:39:47] Line dance instructors

[00:39:50] In the line dance community

[00:39:53] She's been on the team

[00:39:56] Ever since we started back up

[00:39:59] In 2016

[00:40:02] And also the

[00:40:05] And they came on board

[00:40:08] After AJ was elevated

[00:40:11] To the oldest room

[00:40:14] People know these people

[00:40:17] Are going to be there at all times

[00:40:20] Even so with the live band

[00:40:23] Since 2016

[00:40:26] I've only had two bands play for me

[00:40:29] Both of them are Ida Filly

[00:40:32] The group that's playing for me now

[00:40:35] They bring both of them

[00:40:38] Bring ten pieces

[00:40:41] Horn section and everything that goes with it

[00:40:44] They have great

[00:40:47] Vocalists

[00:40:50] They give the people

[00:40:53] Their money's worth

[00:40:56] And that's what I always want people to feel

[00:40:59] When they come to my events

[00:41:02] It's a little more

[00:41:05] A lot more

[00:41:08] Than going to listen to one DJ

[00:41:11] And paying $35 or $30

[00:41:14] When charging $40 for one DJ

[00:41:17] And food when it

[00:41:20] Run out. You may pay double that

[00:41:23] To come to my event

[00:41:26] But we're going to feed you twice

[00:41:29] And we're not going to run out of food

[00:41:32] As long as you can

[00:41:35] Put food on a plate and eat it

[00:41:38] We're going to feed you

[00:41:41] And that's a promise

[00:41:44] I understood

[00:41:47] Now for the news I'm most excited about

[00:41:50] June 8th, 2024

[00:41:53] Delaware Black Music Fest

[00:41:56] Can you tell us about this event?

[00:41:59] Okay, well, you know

[00:42:02] I'm told that I have too much time

[00:42:05] On my hand to think

[00:42:08] But some people that's a good

[00:42:11] Bad thing but for me that's a good thing

[00:42:14] And

[00:42:17] I've always been wanting to do an outdoor concert

[00:42:20] And it's tough at times

[00:42:23] Because

[00:42:26] There's just so much that go into it

[00:42:29] And during the summer

[00:42:32] There's just so much going on

[00:42:35] But I stepped out on faith

[00:42:38] I prayed on it

[00:42:41] And the message said Sam

[00:42:44] You've never failed

[00:42:47] Now

[00:42:50] I visited

[00:42:53] The facility

[00:42:56] I love what I've seen

[00:42:59] And you know, I used to go there

[00:43:02] Back in the 70s and late 70s

[00:43:05] Early 80s

[00:43:08] We uncover some video of you in there

[00:43:11] But

[00:43:14] And never in my wildest dream

[00:43:17] Would I have thought of doing

[00:43:20] Something like we're doing

[00:43:23] On June 8th

[00:43:26] And I'm just excited

[00:43:29] Because I was able to

[00:43:32] Pull the whole state of Delaware

[00:43:35] Together

[00:43:38] All three counties, you know

[00:43:41] We have entertainment from all three counties

[00:43:44] In the state of Delaware

[00:43:47] And we have interest

[00:43:49] A lot of interest and people are buying tickets

[00:43:52] And I'm just elated

[00:43:55] That people believe in our brand

[00:43:58] Right

[00:44:00] In the name itself

[00:44:03] We've been around since 1991

[00:44:06] With the name

[00:44:09] We're the ones that's doing it

[00:44:12] And we're just thankful

[00:44:15] That we're able to

[00:44:18] Provide an outlet

[00:44:21] To our people

[00:44:24] And not only our local people

[00:44:27] But people in the region

[00:44:30] We've sold tickets already

[00:44:33] Down in the DMV area

[00:44:36] We sold tickets

[00:44:39] People coming out in New York

[00:44:42] And of course all of the surrounding states here

[00:44:45] Maryland, Pennsylvania

[00:44:48] The eastern shore of Maryland

[00:44:51] Even the eastern shore of Virginia where I grew up

[00:44:54] Got some folks coming up

[00:44:57] So it's a blessing

[00:45:00] That we've been consistent over the years

[00:45:03] And we've been able to trust us enough

[00:45:06] To spend their hard earned dollars

[00:45:09] And time with us

[00:45:12] Because you know, you can spend your time

[00:45:15] In many other places but when you choose us

[00:45:18] I feel blessed

[00:45:21] That I'm thought of in that way

[00:45:24] Right

[00:45:26] Now my last question before

[00:45:28] I know Dave has some questions as well

[00:45:31] But I'm gonna ask on behalf of Dave Coker

[00:45:34] So am I

[00:45:36] Now you're gonna ask questions that will be here for me

[00:45:39] Okay, but go ahead

[00:45:41] Are you looking for any male singers?

[00:45:44] Oh Lord, here we go

[00:45:46] I don't know if you know

[00:45:48] Dave is a singer

[00:45:51] So I didn't know if you were looking

[00:45:54] For any opening talent

[00:45:56] He's always trying to get the corner

[00:45:58] I will talk to Tommy

[00:46:01] And see if he can set in on a song

[00:46:04] With best cap soul

[00:46:07] Yeah, but you know

[00:46:10] I got a little bit of connection with them

[00:46:13] So that's what I said

[00:46:16] I wouldn't do it because Leonard

[00:46:19] Well I don't know

[00:46:21] Leonard are you gonna pay me if I get up there and sing?

[00:46:24] Are you talking about pay you not to sing

[00:46:27] But anyway

[00:46:30] While we're on it

[00:46:32] Talking about Dave singing

[00:46:35] Let me just go down the list of the

[00:46:38] Go ahead

[00:46:40] Opening up is the combined choir

[00:46:43] From Calvary Baptist Church in Dover

[00:46:46] They're gonna pick everything off at 11am

[00:46:49] On Saturday, June 8th

[00:46:52] Following them will be best kept soul

[00:46:56] Following best kept soul will be

[00:46:59] A DJ out of Seaford Delaware

[00:47:02] DJ Dave Milliton

[00:47:06] Out of Seaford Delaware

[00:47:09] Following Dave will be

[00:47:12] Our main man, DJ Tim Dogg

[00:47:15] Following Tim Dogg

[00:47:18] We will have Tony Smith

[00:47:21] And friends with Michelle Beckham

[00:47:25] Performing Jazz and Blues

[00:47:28] Following them will be Steve Hood

[00:47:32] He called himself DJ in control

[00:47:35] Out of the Dover area

[00:47:38] And Steve was all state basketball player

[00:47:41] Back in the day

[00:47:43] I know Steve

[00:47:45] I played basketball too

[00:47:48] I know Steve

[00:47:49] Steve was a fantastic DJ

[00:47:51] Still a fine young man

[00:47:53] I'm just proud that I

[00:47:56] Paid the way at Caesar Rodney

[00:47:59] For him

[00:48:01] And following Steve

[00:48:05] Is my oldest DJ

[00:48:09] A.J. the DJ

[00:48:12] He'll take us home

[00:48:15] That's a great day

[00:48:19] That's a great day

[00:48:21] So where does Dave Coker fit in there?

[00:48:24] I'm still trying to

[00:48:29] Look, I'll go on stage when everybody

[00:48:32] At the end where everybody's all tired out

[00:48:35] I'll sound real good at that time

[00:48:38] Look at Dave, the six o'clock

[00:48:41] Spock when the stage man

[00:48:44] Turn all the mics off

[00:48:47] There you go, there you go

[00:48:50] Most I could pay

[00:48:52] So, well, folks

[00:48:55] You heard the line up

[00:48:58] You heard everything that Sam just said

[00:49:00] It's going to be an awesome day

[00:49:03] The first of his kind

[00:49:05] Especially for Leonard and

[00:49:07] His wife down there at the campground

[00:49:10] You know

[00:49:13] This will lead to other events down there like this

[00:49:16] Leonard and I are always talking about

[00:49:19] Different things down there

[00:49:21] I did an event down there last year myself

[00:49:24] We want to make this place relevant

[00:49:27] A lot of people who have been going there for years

[00:49:30] Using the facilities have been

[00:49:33] Using it

[00:49:36] But we want to get more visibility

[00:49:39] Out of people that look like us

[00:49:42] And so because of that

[00:49:45] When we have events like this

[00:49:48] And you have an event put on by Sam Bailey

[00:49:52] You definitely want to show up

[00:49:54] And you definitely want to have a good time

[00:49:57] And I can promise you

[00:49:59] If Sam Bailey is putting on an event

[00:50:01] You're going to have a good time

[00:50:04] But I just had a few questions I want to ask

[00:50:07] Now, going back to what Leonard said

[00:50:10] In the beginning about when

[00:50:13] I first met you

[00:50:15] At one of your events

[00:50:18] Gosh, that was a long time

[00:50:21] You know what? You mentioned the Holiday Inn

[00:50:24] I think I was at that event

[00:50:27] You know

[00:50:30] Because that was right after it went from the Radisson

[00:50:32] To the Holiday Inn, right?

[00:50:34] That is correct

[00:50:35] Yeah, yeah, I think I was at that event

[00:50:38] I do, I think I was there

[00:50:41] Yeah, I

[00:50:44] When you do events

[00:50:47] And folks I'm going to say

[00:50:49] Because I'm an event planner

[00:50:51] And so forth and so forth

[00:50:53] Not to the magnitude that this gentleman is

[00:50:55] But I've done quite a few events myself

[00:50:58] And so forth

[00:51:00] And you always try to find

[00:51:03] A model that you try to

[00:51:06] To

[00:51:09] Copy

[00:51:11] Not necessarily to the T

[00:51:13] But try to model yourself after

[00:51:15] And trying to do things in a certain way

[00:51:18] When you hear

[00:51:22] Mr. Bailey talk about class

[00:51:25] Personified quality

[00:51:28] Making sure people enjoy themselves

[00:51:31] This is not, it's a grown folk type thing

[00:51:36] And it's not going to be something that

[00:51:39] You know

[00:51:41] You're not going to see

[00:51:43] You know what you're going to see

[00:51:45] Every time you go to one of these events

[00:51:47] I know when I started doing the events

[00:51:49] I started looking at the model that you had laid out

[00:51:51] And I also came up during the time

[00:51:53] I don't know if you remember the guys from

[00:51:55] East Coast Productions back in the day

[00:51:57] But they were my

[00:52:00] Mentors when I was coming up

[00:52:02] And I knew, you know

[00:52:04] Twins and you know

[00:52:06] They were doing events with Mimi Brown

[00:52:08] And they were doing events with the

[00:52:10] And so that's what got me interested

[00:52:12] In doing things

[00:52:14] So when you do these events

[00:52:16] And you look at your demographics

[00:52:18] And so forth

[00:52:20] When you

[00:52:22] When you're an event promoter

[00:52:24] One of the things you want to make sure

[00:52:27] Is that everybody has a good time

[00:52:29] That's the main thing

[00:52:31] It's getting people to come out and have a good time

[00:52:34] Of course you don't want to take losses

[00:52:37] You definitely don't want to take losses

[00:52:39] But there's times when you're just unavoidable

[00:52:42] Yeah, that's right

[00:52:44] And that's where I'm getting ready to go with this

[00:52:46] Because when you have one of those moments

[00:52:49] When that happens

[00:52:51] How do you

[00:52:53] What do you say to yourself

[00:52:55] Or what do you say

[00:52:57] What do you do in order to make sure

[00:53:00] That the next event is going to be successful

[00:53:03] Well

[00:53:05] Let me take a step back

[00:53:07] You know

[00:53:09] I think I said earlier

[00:53:11] That you know

[00:53:13] I

[00:53:15] When people spend their hard earned money

[00:53:17] To come

[00:53:19] You got to give them something for their money

[00:53:21] And

[00:53:23] I had the

[00:53:25] Privilege

[00:53:27] From

[00:53:29] 2004

[00:53:31] To 2014

[00:53:33] To work with

[00:53:35] A group by the Philadelphia

[00:53:37] The Inner Circle

[00:53:39] And they had everything

[00:53:41] They had everything

[00:53:44] I mean

[00:53:46] Pretty much perfect

[00:53:48] And

[00:53:50] I modeled

[00:53:52] What we do

[00:53:54] After them

[00:53:58] However

[00:54:00] We were doing

[00:54:02] Rooms of Entertainment back in the 90s

[00:54:04] And

[00:54:06] At the same time they were doing

[00:54:08] Three Rooms of Entertainment

[00:54:10] Of course they went up to four

[00:54:12] And five Rooms

[00:54:14] But we were doing something on the same level

[00:54:16] But

[00:54:18] The one thing

[00:54:20] That you got to know

[00:54:22] Is your customer base

[00:54:24] And

[00:54:26] You got to provide

[00:54:28] What they are looking for

[00:54:30] If you got people that's coming

[00:54:32] From Baltimore and DC

[00:54:34] They don't

[00:54:36] Bop

[00:54:38] Philly

[00:54:40] Has to Philly Bop

[00:54:42] These people in DC

[00:54:44] And northern Virginia

[00:54:46] They hand dance

[00:54:48] Right

[00:54:50] So

[00:54:52] The people that's providing

[00:54:54] The music for me

[00:54:56] We got to be on the same page

[00:54:58] That

[00:55:00] He knows

[00:55:02] That he's got to

[00:55:04] Cater to

[00:55:06] Those folks as well as the Philly folks

[00:55:08] There's got to be

[00:55:12] Bounce

[00:55:14] Otherwise

[00:55:16] If DC and

[00:55:18] Virginia don't hear their music

[00:55:20] We're not coming back

[00:55:22] Because first of all

[00:55:24] They have paid

[00:55:26] Probably

[00:55:28] $20 in tolls just to get here

[00:55:30] Right

[00:55:32] They have paid

[00:55:34] $150 to $180

[00:55:36] For a hotel room

[00:55:40] And then they had to

[00:55:42] Eat

[00:55:44] Why they were here

[00:55:46] Put gas in their car

[00:55:48] It becomes an expensive weekend

[00:55:50] If I'm not providing

[00:55:52] Anything that you're going to

[00:55:54] Enjoy doing

[00:55:56] And Sam real quick

[00:55:58] Is going to say it sounds like

[00:56:00] The people who live in the Delaware area

[00:56:02] Are really some of the luckiest people

[00:56:04] Because

[00:56:06] This entertainment is in their backyard

[00:56:08] Absolutely

[00:56:10] Absolutely

[00:56:12] It is right here for them

[00:56:14] And

[00:56:16] It's been a joy

[00:56:18] Providing

[00:56:20] Entertainment

[00:56:22] Right here in Delaware

[00:56:24] That people can

[00:56:28] That keep people from going

[00:56:30] Out of town

[00:56:32] For their entertainment

[00:56:34] You know

[00:56:36] Because it is

[00:56:38] Back in the day was so quick to say

[00:56:40] Okay, I'm in Delaware

[00:56:42] There's nothing going on here

[00:56:44] I'm going to Philly, I'm going to Jersey

[00:56:46] I'm going to Baltimore

[00:56:48] And now

[00:56:50] They don't have to make that ride

[00:56:54] Right

[00:56:56] And as we get

[00:56:58] Older

[00:57:00] I have an older crowd

[00:57:02] My crowd

[00:57:04] Probably starts at 45 years old

[00:57:06] And goes up to 90

[00:57:08] But

[00:57:10] The older they get

[00:57:12] The less they want to travel

[00:57:14] But three times a year

[00:57:16] It's not

[00:57:18] A bad thing

[00:57:20] And they

[00:57:22] Compass that in their

[00:57:24] Lifestyle

[00:57:26] And they know

[00:57:28] That there's an event coming for the

[00:57:30] Summer

[00:57:32] And then one coming

[00:57:34] Pre-New Year Seed

[00:57:36] And the only time I do New Year

[00:57:38] Seed is when

[00:57:40] New Year Seed actually fall

[00:57:42] Right on December 31st

[00:57:44] Otherwise

[00:57:46] I do a pre-New Year Seed

[00:57:48] So people can be home with their families

[00:57:50] Because older folks want to spend

[00:57:52] The new year

[00:57:54] With the grandkids

[00:57:56] And

[00:57:58] Just with family coming

[00:58:00] With the new year coming in

[00:58:03] One thing I will say

[00:58:05] Because they're listening to you talk

[00:58:07] And for those of people that

[00:58:09] Are listening as well

[00:58:11] One thing you will hear

[00:58:13] Well, a couple things you're going to hear

[00:58:15] In what Sam is saying

[00:58:17] One thing is consistency

[00:58:21] Another thing is that he has a formula

[00:58:23] That works

[00:58:25] And

[00:58:27] People know

[00:58:29] That when they go to his

[00:58:31] Events, because I've been to quite a few of them myself

[00:58:33] I know what to expect

[00:58:35] When I go to one of these events

[00:58:37] And

[00:58:39] People, you know

[00:58:41] It used to be, you know

[00:58:43] When you look at the ticket prices and everything

[00:58:45] Because Delaware

[00:58:47] And as the event

[00:58:49] Promoted myself

[00:58:51] Paying money for certain events

[00:58:53] You know, they don't want

[00:58:55] You know

[00:58:57] You might

[00:58:59] Charge $40 or $50 for an event

[00:59:01] And you can promise them the world

[00:59:03] And tell him at all

[00:59:05] About the $40 or $50

[00:59:07] But

[00:59:09] Believe me, I know

[00:59:11] But

[00:59:13] With one of your events

[00:59:15] Because of the formula that you have

[00:59:17] The consistency that you have

[00:59:19] You put your price tag out there

[00:59:21] And people show up

[00:59:23] Because they know what they're going to get

[00:59:25] And that's a good thing to have

[00:59:27] That's a good formula to have

[00:59:29] And that makes all the difference in the world

[00:59:31] And so

[00:59:33] For that, you know, definitely

[00:59:35] You know, that's when people

[00:59:37] Start looking for it

[00:59:39] Because I tell you, it's so funny

[00:59:41] And Leonard, I know you're going to test this too

[00:59:43] When you guys do one of those three events

[00:59:45] That you just talked about during the year

[00:59:47] The

[00:59:49] Sam's got an event coming up on such and such a day

[00:59:51] You go on

[00:59:53] You hear that all the time

[00:59:55] That's all you hear, and it may be months away

[00:59:57] But people are already planning

[00:59:59] Oh, I had one lady tell me

[01:00:01] One time we were talking about one of your events

[01:00:03] I think it was the pre-New Year's event

[01:00:05] And they said, I already started saving money

[01:00:07] To pay for the ticket

[01:00:11] If that happens

[01:00:13] I've had people

[01:00:15] Do you have a payment plan?

[01:00:17] I know

[01:00:19] I know

[01:00:21] But they were planning to be there

[01:00:23] And that was the key

[01:00:25] That was the plan, they were going to be there

[01:00:27] Regardless of what it took

[01:00:29] That makes all the difference in the world

[01:00:31] And during the event

[01:00:33] You always got

[01:00:35] For me, it's all about details

[01:00:37] Delivering

[01:00:39] Delivering the promise

[01:00:41] I put out a flyer

[01:00:43] I put out a flyer with all this information on it

[01:00:47] And now the night of

[01:00:49] It's my responsibility to deliver

[01:00:51] And that's where a lot of

[01:00:53] Event planners and promoters

[01:00:55] Don't get it

[01:00:57] I tell people all the time

[01:00:59] If you're in this business

[01:01:01] For the long haul

[01:01:03] You're going to win some

[01:01:05] You're going to lose

[01:01:07] More

[01:01:09] You're going to start now

[01:01:11] You're going to lose more than you're going to win

[01:01:13] Oh, that's true

[01:01:15] But you can't

[01:01:17] Take away

[01:01:19] From your event

[01:01:21] And charge an astronomical

[01:01:23] Price because

[01:01:25] You didn't make no money the last time

[01:01:27] Right

[01:01:29] That's where consistency

[01:01:31] Come in

[01:01:33] I keep saying that word over and over again

[01:01:35] And that's what a lot of young folks

[01:01:37] Don't

[01:01:39] They don't get it

[01:01:41] You know, you got to

[01:01:43] Put it right there

[01:01:45] And

[01:01:47] Mean what you say

[01:01:49] And deliver the promise

[01:01:53] Yeah, that was funny that you just said

[01:01:55] What you just said because that was about next question

[01:01:57] My next question was going to be

[01:01:59] What advice do you have for

[01:02:01] A young promoter

[01:02:03] Starting out and doing

[01:02:05] These type of, I know I've talked to a couple

[01:02:07] Young guys and you know

[01:02:09] They all had these grandiose high deals

[01:02:11] About doing things, you know

[01:02:13] And they want to

[01:02:15] They want to do the

[01:02:17] They want to do the bottles

[01:02:19] And you know the bottle service

[01:02:21] And all the craziness that they do

[01:02:23] At these things

[01:02:25] And sometime it works

[01:02:27] But there's a certain crowd

[01:02:29] That comes along with that type of party

[01:02:31] Absolutely

[01:02:33] And I'm like you

[01:02:35] My parties when I do an event

[01:02:37] Usually, you know

[01:02:39] The crowd is 40 and over

[01:02:41] And you know

[01:02:43] And I prefer that

[01:02:45] I'm not looking to cater to

[01:02:47] To the youngins as I call them

[01:02:49] I'm not looking to cater to them

[01:02:51] But we have some

[01:02:53] That like to hang out

[01:02:55] Absolutely

[01:02:57] And they come out and they have a great time

[01:02:59] Listen to the old school music and all of that stuff

[01:03:01] So and that's always a plus

[01:03:03] That type of thing

[01:03:05] But if you had a young man walk up to you

[01:03:07] And say I want to be a promoter

[01:03:09] But I want to

[01:03:11] Do it the way

[01:03:13] That you did it. What would you tell them?

[01:03:17] Be ready to dedicate

[01:03:19] A lot of time

[01:03:21] And resources

[01:03:27] Love what you do

[01:03:29] If you got to do it, you got to love it

[01:03:31] And if you love it, you're going to take ownership

[01:03:33] And do what's right

[01:03:37] And like I said before

[01:03:41] Once you

[01:03:43] If you water it down

[01:03:45] It's not going to

[01:03:47] It's not going to be sustainable

[01:03:49] Long term

[01:03:53] You've just got to

[01:03:55] Be

[01:03:57] Give a bang for the buck

[01:04:01] Be consistent

[01:04:03] And

[01:04:05] Believe in what you do

[01:04:09] Tell your story

[01:04:11] Regardless of whether it's good or bad

[01:04:13] Tell your story

[01:04:15] And

[01:04:17] Put good people around you

[01:04:21] Know who

[01:04:23] Can help you

[01:04:25] Because there's a lot of

[01:04:27] Old heads out here like me

[01:04:29] That can

[01:04:31] Set down with young folks

[01:04:33] Not that we don't do it

[01:04:35] But

[01:04:37] I can offer a lot of wisdom

[01:04:39] People come to me, want to do an event

[01:04:41] And in fact

[01:04:43] There's two events going on

[01:04:45] In the next couple of weeks

[01:04:47] Where people have come to me

[01:04:49] And said how can I do this

[01:04:51] I just want to get started with something

[01:04:53] Went and found them a place

[01:04:55] And they found their own DJ

[01:04:57] They're going to give it a try

[01:04:59] That's what life is all about

[01:05:01] Giving

[01:05:03] A hand up

[01:05:05] To

[01:05:07] Someone who

[01:05:09] Has aspirations and dreams

[01:05:13] And help that come

[01:05:15] Through for them

[01:05:17] That's a great answer

[01:05:21] That was my last question

[01:05:23] Lynn, you got anything else you want to add?

[01:05:25] I think

[01:05:27] That is it

[01:05:29] So Sam, I just know

[01:05:31] Of course

[01:05:33] I always shoot ideas

[01:05:35] And ask questions

[01:05:37] So

[01:05:39] Black music fest

[01:05:43] And I'm trying to think of

[01:05:45] Some of the questions I get

[01:05:47] That may stop you from getting calls

[01:05:49] That don't need to be calls

[01:05:51] Are you doing vendors

[01:05:55] And

[01:05:59] And you said no tickets at the door

[01:06:01] So all tickets pre-purchase

[01:06:03] Potentially

[01:06:05] And what about vendors?

[01:06:11] I've been doing events since 1991

[01:06:17] I've always

[01:06:21] Through the years I've been to events

[01:06:23] Where people have vendors

[01:06:25] And

[01:06:27] It becomes a shopping marketplace

[01:06:29] And I have nothing against that

[01:06:31] But at my events

[01:06:35] I do not have vendors

[01:06:37] And I don't have

[01:06:39] Vendors because

[01:06:41] I want people to take in

[01:06:43] What they paid for

[01:06:45] They pay to come

[01:06:47] And have a great time

[01:06:49] Listening to music

[01:06:51] Dancing to music

[01:06:53] Meeting new people

[01:06:55] That's so important

[01:06:57] To me

[01:06:59] That people meet new people

[01:07:01] Make new friends

[01:07:03] Going vacations together

[01:07:05] Those kind of things

[01:07:07] And when you

[01:07:09] I know everybody

[01:07:11] Got to make a living

[01:07:13] Vendors have to make a living too

[01:07:17] But I think

[01:07:19] It's more important that they do that

[01:07:21] Than go shopping

[01:07:25] That's just my personal opinion

[01:07:31] For the music fast

[01:07:33] We could very well have vendors

[01:07:35] However this is the first time

[01:07:37] That we're doing it

[01:07:39] And I don't want

[01:07:41] Overkill

[01:07:43] When you have vendors

[01:07:45] At this point

[01:07:47] Everything looks great

[01:07:51] It really does

[01:07:55] And Laren you know

[01:07:57] I've been down there at least

[01:07:59] By 10 times

[01:08:03] Since October

[01:08:05] Over the next 30 days

[01:08:07] I'll probably be there another 10 times

[01:08:09] Because I just need to

[01:08:11] Put everything that I can

[01:08:13] In my mind

[01:08:15] To make this

[01:08:17] The best that it can be

[01:08:19] For our people

[01:08:23] It's got my name all over

[01:08:25] It's got Wilmington's gentlemen

[01:08:27] Of distinction, Sam B. Entertainment

[01:08:29] That's our brand

[01:08:33] And I got to protect the brand

[01:08:37] And in order to protect the brand

[01:08:39] I have to make sure that the eyes are dotted

[01:08:41] And the T's are crossed

[01:08:43] That's my job

[01:08:45] To make sure that that happens

[01:08:51] I say that to say

[01:08:53] Maybe next year

[01:08:55] Let's ride it

[01:08:57] Ride this one

[01:08:59] And

[01:09:01] We'll know

[01:09:03] Where we are

[01:09:05] When this one is over

[01:09:07] And then we can plan for the next one

[01:09:09] And if vendors say

[01:09:11] Look like vendors

[01:09:13] Can be

[01:09:15] At the event

[01:09:17] Gladly

[01:09:19] We do have food vendors

[01:09:21] We will have food trucks

[01:09:23] There and Leonard

[01:09:25] You're opening up

[01:09:27] The facilities there

[01:09:29] To sell ourselves

[01:09:31] And hamburgers

[01:09:33] We're not selling any alcohol

[01:09:37] People

[01:09:39] That want to bring a bottle of wine

[01:09:41] Or their favorite drink

[01:09:43] They're welcome to bring it

[01:09:45] But we will not sell any alcohol

[01:09:47] Because

[01:09:49] Number one, I want it to be a family friendly

[01:09:51] Event

[01:09:53] Kids are welcome to come

[01:09:55] Of all ages

[01:09:57] The only thing that I ask

[01:09:59] When people buy a ticket

[01:10:01] For their kid

[01:10:03] If the kid is under 12 years old

[01:10:05] Wherever that kid go

[01:10:07] You don't got to be with him

[01:10:09] Right

[01:10:11] Because we don't

[01:10:13] We live in a

[01:10:15] Not so

[01:10:17] We live in a cruel world

[01:10:19] And

[01:10:21] The person that's smiling beside you

[01:10:23] You just don't know

[01:10:25] So

[01:10:27] But

[01:10:29] Vendors

[01:10:31] And kids

[01:10:33] Are

[01:10:37] Kids who are welcome

[01:10:39] Vendors next year

[01:10:41] And

[01:10:43] We'll do everything we can

[01:10:45] And I probably

[01:10:47] Had 20 people call me

[01:10:49] Can I be a vendor

[01:10:53] I take their name and number

[01:10:55] And I

[01:10:57] It's always good to tell the truth

[01:10:59] Yeah, no doubt

[01:11:01] Not the sugar coat anything

[01:11:03] And say well maybe

[01:11:05] I'll let you know

[01:11:07] We're not going to have vendors

[01:11:09] Let it be known up front

[01:11:11] You know

[01:11:13] That's one thing

[01:11:15] About being in this business

[01:11:21] People are not

[01:11:23] Always truthful

[01:11:25] But the flip side

[01:11:27] Is that

[01:11:29] People can see through

[01:11:31] You if you're not truthful

[01:11:33] And they

[01:11:35] And you'll end up with no support

[01:11:37] And

[01:11:39] We've seen

[01:11:41] Dave I know you've seen that

[01:11:43] I've seen it many times

[01:11:45] I know exactly what you're talking about

[01:11:47] Unfortunately it does happen

[01:11:49] You have to learn

[01:11:51] A lot in reference to that

[01:11:53] People can look you right in your face

[01:11:55] And

[01:11:57] Give you the straightest look in the world

[01:11:59] But then

[01:12:01] You have to be completely opposite

[01:12:03] Completely different

[01:12:05] That's right

[01:12:07] And

[01:12:09] That's the only thing

[01:12:11] You got to get a feel

[01:12:13] For the people you're working with

[01:12:15] And then

[01:12:17] When your name is all over it

[01:12:19] And you said it earlier

[01:12:21] When your name is all over it

[01:12:23] Of course

[01:12:25] You want it to be

[01:12:27] Everything that you present it to be

[01:12:29] Other than that you're going to hear about it

[01:12:31] And believe me

[01:12:33] You know Leonard

[01:12:35] I've been dealing with me and Leonard

[01:12:37] Been partners for a long time

[01:12:39] And

[01:12:41] I know

[01:12:43] To tell you if I put my name on something

[01:12:45] I'm very particular

[01:12:47] About that whole experience

[01:12:49] Whether it's

[01:12:51] Whether it's very successful

[01:12:53] I want to know what people are saying

[01:12:55] I want to know what people think

[01:12:57] And you know

[01:12:59] I don't want people being dishonest

[01:13:01] About the brand

[01:13:03] Or whatever I'm doing

[01:13:05] So

[01:13:07] I feel you on that

[01:13:09] Why don't you do us a favor

[01:13:11] And give us all your contact information

[01:13:13] For people

[01:13:15] You can give your social media pages

[01:13:17] You can give the information

[01:13:19] For people to purchase tickets

[01:13:21] Why don't you take a moment

[01:13:23] To do all of that

[01:13:25] Well first of all

[01:13:27] If anybody needs any information

[01:13:29] They can call

[01:13:31] 302-743-3417

[01:13:37] And any questions or concerns

[01:13:39] That they have will be addressed

[01:13:41] At that number

[01:13:43] Again that is 302-743-3417

[01:13:49] Now as far as

[01:13:51] Social media pages

[01:13:53] I have a page on Facebook

[01:13:55] Samuel Bailey

[01:13:57] They're welcome to check out the information there

[01:14:01] Just click on events

[01:14:05] Near the top of the page

[01:14:07] And it'll show them

[01:14:09] The event that we're doing

[01:14:13] Also there's two other pages

[01:14:15] Womitons, gentlemen of distinction

[01:14:17] Page on Facebook

[01:14:19] As well as Sam B

[01:14:21] Entertainment

[01:14:23] And basically

[01:14:25] All of the information is shared

[01:14:27] With all three pages

[01:14:29] At all times

[01:14:31] When I post updates

[01:14:35] We also have a website

[01:14:37] WomitonsGents.com

[01:14:43] That is our website

[01:14:45] And that has all of the

[01:14:47] Detailed information on it as well

[01:14:51] We have

[01:14:53] Several ways where people can buy tickets

[01:14:57] On Facebook

[01:14:59] We have posts

[01:15:01] That have

[01:15:03] People in different states

[01:15:05] That have tickets

[01:15:07] Which are in New York

[01:15:09] New Jersey

[01:15:11] Pennsylvania

[01:15:15] Of course Delaware

[01:15:17] Maryland

[01:15:19] Nobody's in Virginia

[01:15:25] Other outlets to buy tickets

[01:15:27] Is

[01:15:29] We do have event bright

[01:15:31] Set up

[01:15:33] Where people can purchase online

[01:15:35] We also have

[01:15:37] Cash app and

[01:15:39] Zail

[01:15:41] And if you need the cash

[01:15:43] App and zail information

[01:15:45] Again call the hotline

[01:15:47] And we'll get that information

[01:15:49] Right over to you

[01:15:51] Okay

[01:15:53] All right

[01:15:55] And we'll make sure

[01:15:57] To put that information out there as well

[01:15:59] Um

[01:16:01] We

[01:16:03] Definitely want to thank you

[01:16:05] For taking the time to join us

[01:16:07] We wish you were hanging out with us

[01:16:09] For the rest of the show

[01:16:11] But I know you

[01:16:13] Got her up

[01:16:15] Got her up

[01:16:17] I know you got to get out there and do your thing

[01:16:19] I know

[01:16:21] But we want to

[01:16:23] Thank you for taking the time

[01:16:25] To join us

[01:16:27] And it's been awesome

[01:16:29] And thank you for doing what you do

[01:16:31] For our state and the surrounding states

[01:16:33] And

[01:16:35] Keep up the good work man

[01:16:37] And we look forward to June 8

[01:16:39] You know what

[01:16:41] Let me say one last thing

[01:16:43] Back in the

[01:16:45] Back in the 60s

[01:16:47] And I don't know when it started

[01:16:49] But

[01:16:51] There was a black owned beach

[01:16:53] In Sussex County

[01:16:55] Called Rose Stale Beach

[01:16:57] And at Rose Stale

[01:16:59] Rose Stale used to get

[01:17:01] You know the Chitlin circuit

[01:17:03] Okay

[01:17:05] The fat stominoes

[01:17:07] The James Browns

[01:17:09] The Lord Price

[01:17:11] The Rose Stale

[01:17:13] And when Rose Stale

[01:17:15] Went away

[01:17:17] There was no venue

[01:17:19] For mass entertainment

[01:17:21] Outside

[01:17:25] So and

[01:17:27] That's one of the things that crossed my mind

[01:17:29] When I first went to

[01:17:31] The campground

[01:17:35] Again back in October

[01:17:37] Was that

[01:17:39] Here is

[01:17:41] Something

[01:17:43] That can be

[01:17:45] A

[01:17:49] History making

[01:17:51] Venue for our people

[01:17:53] Here in Delaware

[01:17:55] The same way Rose Stale Beach was

[01:17:57] Back in the day

[01:17:59] Right

[01:18:01] And that's

[01:18:03] That thought

[01:18:05] Really provoked me to

[01:18:07] Pursue

[01:18:09] This event

[01:18:11] Because

[01:18:13] I just felt that it was something

[01:18:15] That Delaware

[01:18:17] That we Delawareans needed

[01:18:19] And it encompassed

[01:18:21] The whole hundred miles

[01:18:23] That Delawarean stretch

[01:18:25] You know

[01:18:27] So with that

[01:18:29] I want to

[01:18:31] Thank the two of you

[01:18:33] For having me on here

[01:18:35] To

[01:18:37] Tell my story

[01:18:39] I really appreciate it

[01:18:41] And

[01:18:43] Again

[01:18:45] To those who are listening

[01:19:09] Thank you. I see you later Sam

[01:19:11] Okay

[01:19:15] That was the man to miss the legend

[01:19:17] Right there

[01:19:19] Samuel

[01:19:21] Bailey

[01:19:23] You guys heard his contact information

[01:19:25] And we'll be posting it

[01:19:27] Of course you'll be able to find his

[01:19:29] Information and everything

[01:19:31] For the big event coming up

[01:19:33] And we hope to see everybody there

[01:19:35] We got a couple more stories

[01:19:37] We're going to get through before

[01:19:39] The

[01:19:41] We're done with the show

[01:19:43] Let's see

[01:19:45] This next story

[01:19:47] Steven A. Smith class

[01:19:49] Back at the NAACP

[01:19:51] After Trump remarked

[01:19:53] I'm going to read a little bit of this

[01:19:55] It says the NAACP

[01:19:57] Called out Steven A. Smith

[01:19:59] Steven A. Smith has been on

[01:20:01] He's had some issues

[01:20:03] Over the last

[01:20:05] Over the last couple of months

[01:20:07] He's had a lot of

[01:20:09] Comments out there

[01:20:11] You know

[01:20:13] But

[01:20:15] We got

[01:20:17] We got some feedback in the

[01:20:19] Bag of Crown here

[01:20:21] I think Sam

[01:20:23] Is

[01:20:25] Sam is still eating his

[01:20:27] Lee button

[01:20:29] Can you mute him?

[01:20:31] Yep I did

[01:20:33] Alright

[01:20:35] I'm going to read a little bit of the story

[01:20:37] The NAACP called out

[01:20:39] Steven A. Smith on social media

[01:20:41] After his comments about Donald Trump's

[01:20:43] Legal troubles

[01:20:45] We reported earlier that

[01:20:47] When Smith appeared recently on Fox News

[01:20:49] He came to Trump's defense

[01:20:51] Following

[01:20:53] The ex-presidents assertion

[01:20:55] That black Americans

[01:20:57] Emphasized with him because of

[01:20:59] His legal troubles

[01:21:01] So, of hand

[01:21:03] Anyone in your black family have

[01:21:05] 88 felony charges pending

[01:21:07] Fall for bankruptcy

[01:21:09] Six times

[01:21:11] May attempt to overthrow a presidential

[01:21:13] Election in our democracy

[01:21:15] And still have the ability to fall asleep

[01:21:17] In court and dream of being

[01:21:19] POTUS

[01:21:21] The NAACP said in a response

[01:21:23] I don't have any of my family members like that

[01:21:25] What about you?

[01:21:27] None that I claim

[01:21:29] Okay, alright, I'm just checking

[01:21:31] Smith clapped back

[01:21:33] At the NAACP

[01:21:35] On social media

[01:21:37] This is absolutely positively

[01:21:39] Said that you at NAACP

[01:21:41] Would misrepresent my comments like this

[01:21:45] I was asked

[01:21:47] What blacks who support Trump

[01:21:49] Are thinking as to

[01:21:55] As to why they support him

[01:21:57] I answered that question

[01:21:59] But said

[01:22:01] You, but you're entitled

[01:22:03] Good luck

[01:22:05] Maybe that will beat Trump

[01:22:07] Since little else seems to be

[01:22:09] Working

[01:22:11] Which was my overall point

[01:22:13] We shall see he wrote

[01:22:15] So

[01:22:17] Stephen A. Smith

[01:22:19] Really got blasted by a bunch

[01:22:21] Of his colleagues and everything

[01:22:23] Because, you know

[01:22:25] I'm saying that Trump

[01:22:27] You know

[01:22:29] He does have black supporters

[01:22:33] Because some blacks do relate with him

[01:22:37] Now whether he meant to say

[01:22:39] Because of his legal trouble or not

[01:22:41] That's the way it came out

[01:22:43] And we've been

[01:22:45] We reported about this not too long ago

[01:22:47] I mean, you know how Trump

[01:22:49] Was up there talking about his mugshot

[01:22:51] And how people can relate to him

[01:22:53] Because he has a mugshot

[01:22:55] And you know most black people have mugshots

[01:22:57] That memory he said that

[01:22:59] What's your thing

[01:23:01] What's your thoughts on this

[01:23:05] So

[01:23:09] You know it's kind of weird

[01:23:11] So they've kind of said

[01:23:13] I know there's going to be a lot of people voting for Trump

[01:23:15] A lot of black people

[01:23:17] And they may or may not admit to it

[01:23:21] But I almost feel

[01:23:23] Like people who support Trump

[01:23:25] I'm trying to think of how I can

[01:23:29] Say this politically correctly

[01:23:36] Even if they

[01:23:38] Benefit from his

[01:23:40] Presidency

[01:23:42] I think you

[01:23:44] Can't ignore who he is

[01:23:46] And what his motives are

[01:23:48] So it's kind of like

[01:23:50] And I mean

[01:23:52] I'm going to make a wild comparison

[01:23:54] Let's say you know Adolf Hitler

[01:23:56] There's some people who probably benefited

[01:23:59] Under his reign

[01:24:01] As

[01:24:03] Whatever they called him

[01:24:05] In

[01:24:07] In Germany

[01:24:09] There are probably people who financially benefited

[01:24:11] Maybe educationally

[01:24:13] Or you know whatever economically

[01:24:15] But when you look at him

[01:24:17] As a person in his views

[01:24:19] And maybe his moral character

[01:24:21] And his corruptness

[01:24:23] You know you can't

[01:24:25] Is it selfish of us to overlook

[01:24:27] You know

[01:24:29] That just because we are

[01:24:31] Financially gaining

[01:24:33] So long story short

[01:24:35] So when I hear people talk about

[01:24:37] I'm voting for Trump and I'm doing all this

[01:24:39] Yeah I mean I get it you know

[01:24:41] You want to make money, you know

[01:24:43] Get more money, you know

[01:24:45] Better economic status

[01:24:47] But you can't overlook all the stuff

[01:24:49] Like Trump is a criminal

[01:24:51] You know what I mean

[01:24:53] That's what's so crazy

[01:24:55] That's what's so crazy is that part right there

[01:24:57] There you go

[01:24:59] So long story short

[01:25:01] You know I just look at it like

[01:25:03] Okay these are people overlooking

[01:25:05] Morality for their own individual

[01:25:07] Game

[01:25:09] But what's so

[01:25:11] What's so crazy

[01:25:13] If the roles were reversed

[01:25:15] And this was a black candidate

[01:25:17] Do you think

[01:25:19] That black candidate

[01:25:21] Would he even get to this point

[01:25:23] To even have a shot at the presidency

[01:25:25] With all of that

[01:25:27] That I just read that's going on

[01:25:29] In Trump's background

[01:25:31] Ask her to walk her how he's doing

[01:25:33] Yeah

[01:25:35] Have you heard his name since the election?

[01:25:37] No he fell off

[01:25:39] He fell so far off

[01:25:41] The radar

[01:25:43] Quickly

[01:25:45] You know why? Because Trump said to him

[01:25:47] You didn't do what I needed

[01:25:49] To do so I don't have no use for you now

[01:25:51] That's what happened

[01:25:53] You know so

[01:25:55] It's really sad that we are

[01:25:57] For the ones that are voting

[01:25:59] For him and you know

[01:26:01] Some people really have

[01:26:03] Really good reasons as to why

[01:26:05] They want to vote for Trump or they're

[01:26:07] Supporting him

[01:26:09] Good to them

[01:26:11] I should say

[01:26:13] Okay and it's the same

[01:26:15] Because we're going to have a lot

[01:26:17] He's going to get a lot of black votes

[01:26:19] He really is

[01:26:21] Yeah he may

[01:26:23] As we said he may get the most

[01:26:25] Black votes any Republican

[01:26:27] Presidential candidate has ever got

[01:26:29] And I think it's

[01:26:31] A combination of two things

[01:26:33] Black people voting for him

[01:26:35] And

[01:26:37] Black people not

[01:26:39] Voting at all because

[01:26:41] If a black person does not vote at all

[01:26:43] Then that vote someone else gave

[01:26:45] Trump has a higher percentage

[01:26:47] Right that's right

[01:26:49] Yeah and he wanted to

[01:26:51] Try to stop the ballot box

[01:26:53] Because it'll be there already

[01:26:55] You know

[01:26:57] People we got to wake up

[01:26:59] We got to pay attention

[01:27:01] And we can't let this kind of stuff

[01:27:03] Go along

[01:27:05] Stephen A. Smith is one of the most visible people in sports

[01:27:07] He has his podcast

[01:27:09] He does a lot of social commentary

[01:27:11] And he has something to say about everything

[01:27:13] We can't let people like this

[01:27:15] Regardless of how he meant it

[01:27:17] Corrupt the way that we're thinking

[01:27:19] When it comes to this election

[01:27:23] This election is going to be a very important

[01:27:25] Election because

[01:27:27] We can't let

[01:27:29] What is about

[01:27:31] What looks like could happen

[01:27:33] Happen

[01:27:35] We can't let it happen

[01:27:37] And we got you know

[01:27:39] I know we came out in droves for the last

[01:27:41] Four years and we got

[01:27:43] I know we came out in droves for the last

[01:27:45] Election

[01:27:47] People are not as

[01:27:49] Gung-ho this time around

[01:27:51] As far as

[01:27:53] President Biden is concerned

[01:27:55] But we got to do

[01:27:57] Enough to make sure

[01:27:59] That we don't make a big mistake

[01:28:01] We definitely do

[01:28:03] So

[01:28:05] That's all I got to say

[01:28:07] And we got to stop the crazy thinking

[01:28:09] And

[01:28:11] And stop

[01:28:13] Giving credence to

[01:28:15] This man

[01:28:17] I mean we got to stop

[01:28:19] We really do

[01:28:21] That's all I'm going to say there

[01:28:23] I'm going to leave it right there

[01:28:25] Okay

[01:28:27] Our last

[01:28:29] Story is

[01:28:31] Something I came across

[01:28:33] Did you see this story?

[01:28:35] No, I was just nail trying to

[01:28:37] Pull up the video

[01:28:39] Okay

[01:28:41] So

[01:28:43] I'll let's say a little

[01:28:45] No, I'll let's say a joke

[01:28:47] I better let you intro it

[01:28:49] Or know what I'm talking about

[01:28:51] Okay

[01:28:53] So there was this hilarious

[01:28:55] Video that went viral

[01:28:57] Matter of fact I kind of came across it

[01:28:59] On I think Instagram

[01:29:01] Before I even

[01:29:03] Sold the article and I just kind of

[01:29:05] Pulled about it

[01:29:07] So this man got arrested

[01:29:09] By a cop

[01:29:11] Who just so happens to be

[01:29:13] His twin brother

[01:29:15] And the video is kind of funny

[01:29:17] Because you can see the twin brother

[01:29:19] Take the cop

[01:29:21] Taking the brother out

[01:29:23] So the delt's going viral after getting

[01:29:25] Okay, are you going to play it?

[01:29:27] Yeah, I'm

[01:29:29] Yep, you ready?

[01:29:31] Yeah go ahead but listen to this guy

[01:29:33] So after getting arrested

[01:29:37] By his twin brother

[01:29:39] That's right, apparently the station got the

[01:29:41] Phone call that a man needed to be arrested

[01:29:43] And when the police officer showed up

[01:29:45] It was actually his own brother

[01:29:47] But the weirdest part about it is that the man that got

[01:29:49] Arrested wasn't even mad about it

[01:29:51] Instead he was shouting

[01:29:53] Saying how happy he truly was

[01:29:55] And the brother not giving a single massa

[01:29:57] Instead he actually felt honored that he was

[01:29:59] Arresting his own twin brother

[01:30:01] He's like a foodie

[01:30:05] Yeah what y'all are here

[01:30:09] Is to see

[01:30:11] Where you see the cop

[01:30:13] Bringing the brother out

[01:30:15] And they're both laughing

[01:30:17] The brothers

[01:30:19] The guy that got arrested

[01:30:21] Is laughing and the

[01:30:23] Puffs up the crowd and the brothers

[01:30:25] To start cracking up as well

[01:30:27] You know

[01:30:29] How do you like to be sent to arrest a body?

[01:30:31] To be fooled

[01:30:33] And another guy said one thing we know for sure

[01:30:35] Is that he's probably going to get out tomorrow morning

[01:30:37] But Chad let me know and drop a comment

[01:30:39] What would you

[01:30:41] Yeah I mean that

[01:30:43] That's crazy right

[01:30:45] Very crazy

[01:30:47] So what do you think you would do

[01:30:49] If

[01:30:51] You know you're doing something wrong

[01:30:53] Complicit calls

[01:30:55] And the person that they send out to get you

[01:30:57] Is your brother

[01:30:59] I'm not going to say twin but your brother

[01:31:01] Yeah I mean I'm probably

[01:31:03] Embarrassed

[01:31:05] I'm probably

[01:31:07] Hoping he'll have me

[01:31:09] Get out by tomorrow morning too

[01:31:11] You know

[01:31:13] Yeah

[01:31:15] That had

[01:31:17] To be crazy now

[01:31:19] But then if their parents are alive

[01:31:21] Or one of their parents is alive

[01:31:23] It's probably not a good thing for them

[01:31:25] Because it's in there saying

[01:31:27] What's going on here

[01:31:29] They're probably very embarrassed

[01:31:31] Yeah

[01:31:33] It's an embarrassing situation

[01:31:35] But I saw that and I just started cracking up

[01:31:37] I said is this real because I thought it was one of those

[01:31:39] You know

[01:31:41] One of the

[01:31:43] How they do the lower skits and everything

[01:31:45] But no apparently it was real

[01:31:47] And it definitely did happen

[01:31:49] And

[01:31:51] Hopefully

[01:31:55] Hopefully that's a learning lesson

[01:31:57] Because the brother that got arrested

[01:31:59] Because that could have turned

[01:32:01] So that could have been so different

[01:32:03] If another cop showed up there

[01:32:05] You know what I mean

[01:32:07] And because we've seen

[01:32:09] Some horror stories about

[01:32:11] You know

[01:32:13] Other cops showing up

[01:32:15] So

[01:32:17] I'm just going to say it that way

[01:32:19] Other cops

[01:32:21] But I just thought it was a cute story

[01:32:23] I just wanted to make a mention of

[01:32:25] That's what I'm going to do

[01:32:27] But I'm not going to go on

[01:32:29] Take a look at the video

[01:32:31] It should pop right up about the twin brothers

[01:32:33] Being arrested by

[01:32:35] His brother that's a cop

[01:32:37] Okay

[01:32:39] All right

[01:32:41] So we're going to go into

[01:32:43] Leonard's favorite part of the show

[01:32:45] Which is Dave's corner

[01:32:47] And Dave it's so funny

[01:32:49] Even after I hear the hundred times

[01:32:51] I always chuckle after you say that

[01:32:53] You know why

[01:32:55] Because he's giddy folks

[01:32:57] He's giddy because he just

[01:32:59] Loves this part of the show

[01:33:01] So he tries to hide it but I know

[01:33:03] The truth anyway

[01:33:05] So we have Dave's corner

[01:33:07] And today's question

[01:33:09] From Dave's corner

[01:33:11] Which is our philosophical question

[01:33:13] Of the day

[01:33:15] All right

[01:33:17] Is

[01:33:19] You're on trial

[01:33:21] For an inspiration from

[01:33:23] Trump trial

[01:33:25] One of his 40 trials that he's on

[01:33:27] You're on trial for a murder

[01:33:29] You did not commit

[01:33:31] You get to pick a famous person

[01:33:33] To do your opening statement

[01:33:35] Who would that be

[01:33:37] Another famous person

[01:33:39] To argue the case

[01:33:41] Who would that be

[01:33:43] And

[01:33:45] A final famous person

[01:33:47] To do the closing statement

[01:33:49] That will

[01:33:51] Be

[01:33:53] No, that would tie everything together

[01:33:55] And set you free

[01:33:57] Who would that be

[01:33:59] So we're going to start with the opening statement

[01:34:01] Do they have to be

[01:34:03] Can they be social media famous

[01:34:05] Yeah

[01:34:09] It's got to be somebody famous

[01:34:11] Somebody that everybody wouldn't know

[01:34:13] Who would that be

[01:34:15] Who would that be

[01:34:17] Who would that be

[01:34:19] Somebody that everybody wouldn't know

[01:34:21] That type of thing

[01:34:23] And I'll even let you

[01:34:25] Pick somebody that's no longer here

[01:34:27] If you need to do that

[01:34:29] All right, can I play it

[01:34:33] Uh oh, here we go

[01:34:35] If you think I'm here

[01:34:38] To put it out with y'all

[01:34:40] Got down on that

[01:34:42] Mr. O'Neill please stop

[01:34:44] Using swearing

[01:34:46] Okay

[01:34:48] Do you recognize that

[01:34:50] Me

[01:34:52] Yeah, yeah

[01:34:54] Go ahead and kill everybody

[01:34:56] For anybody who didn't hear

[01:34:58] I'm just gonna play it again

[01:35:00] And then I'll

[01:35:05] If you think I'm here

[01:35:07] To put it out with y'all

[01:35:09] Got down on that

[01:35:11] All right Mr. O'Neill please

[01:35:13] All right so I really don't remember

[01:35:15] Who he was or what the case belongs to

[01:35:17] Or short there was a defendant

[01:35:19] And I don't know if that was an opening

[01:35:21] Or argument or closing statement

[01:35:23] But uh

[01:35:25] This is the guy you want to do your opening

[01:35:27] Yup, yup

[01:35:29] Because Dave, if you think

[01:35:31] We're here to play with you

[01:35:33] Gosh darn it

[01:35:35] We're not

[01:35:37] Okay

[01:35:39] All right

[01:35:41] Now who are you gonna have

[01:35:43] Argue your case

[01:35:45] I'm gonna see if you recognize this person

[01:35:47] Are you ready

[01:35:56] Go ahead

[01:36:00] Thank you so much, thank you

[01:36:02] Thank you

[01:36:04] Thank you so much

[01:36:06] Thank you

[01:36:09] Let me begin by

[01:36:11] thanking

[01:36:13] Harris Wofford

[01:36:15] So I'll

[01:36:17] I'll make

[01:36:19] You guys are gonna thank everybody in the court

[01:36:21] You guys are gonna have the former post

[01:36:23] To argue your case for you

[01:36:25] I mean Dave

[01:36:27] Who is better than Barack Obama

[01:36:29] That's true

[01:36:33] Yeah

[01:36:35] Okay

[01:36:38] So you got

[01:36:40] You got Mr. O'Neill

[01:36:42] Doing the opening

[01:36:44] You got Barack

[01:36:48] Obama doing

[01:36:50] Your argument

[01:36:52] Of the case

[01:36:54] Okay so who's gonna bring it home

[01:36:56] For you who's gonna get you free

[01:36:58] You go to Nigeria

[01:37:02] Which is

[01:37:04] If not the most corrupt nation

[01:37:06] In Africa and it is

[01:37:08] It could be the most corrupt nation

[01:37:10] In the world

[01:37:12] Oh now Mr. Wallace

[01:37:14] It is the most corrupt nation

[01:37:16] That I have ever covered

[01:37:18] I've been there

[01:37:20] 25 years ago and I've been there as recently as last year

[01:37:22] Fine

[01:37:24] Okay and this is where my defense

[01:37:26] Starts

[01:37:28] The closing argument

[01:37:56] You should be quiet

[01:37:58] Yup and that's gonna be the final statement

[01:38:00] You should be quiet

[01:38:04] But who was that

[01:38:06] I recognize the voice, who was that

[01:38:08] Oh it was Louis Farrakhan

[01:38:10] Okay

[01:38:12] Yeah I thought Farrakhan was

[01:38:14] I didn't think he was talking at first

[01:38:16] Yeah okay

[01:38:18] He was being interviewed by somebody

[01:38:20] Right yeah that's what I

[01:38:22] That's right he wasn't being interviewed

[01:38:24] That's why I didn't think it was him at first

[01:38:26] Okay okay all right

[01:38:28] All right

[01:38:30] So you think you walk away free

[01:38:32] Well Dave

[01:38:34] You didn't say if you were walking away free

[01:38:36] You just said who would I

[01:38:38] Oh no I did I said look

[01:38:40] I said the last part is

[01:38:42] That that last person would try everything together

[01:38:44] Oh okay is that you free

[01:38:46] Yeah

[01:38:48] So Farrakhan gonna set you free

[01:38:50] Well I mean the truth

[01:38:53] Just set you free

[01:38:55] Oh lord

[01:38:57] You go walk out there as a Muslim

[01:38:59] Okay all right

[01:39:01] All right

[01:39:03] All right

[01:39:05] Okay well here's my

[01:39:07] Here's my guide okay

[01:39:09] Hold on hold on hold on

[01:39:12] Dave

[01:39:14] Of course my screen just

[01:39:16] Of course

[01:39:18] Dave if you were on trial for a murder you did not commit

[01:39:20] And you had to pick

[01:39:22] A famous person to do your opening statement

[01:39:24] Another

[01:39:26] Famous person to argue

[01:39:28] The case

[01:39:30] And a final famous person to do

[01:39:32] The closing statement that will tie

[01:39:34] Everything together and set

[01:39:36] Your

[01:39:38] Blood

[01:39:40] Set you free who would it be

[01:39:42] I'm sorry who would they be

[01:39:46] All right my opening statement

[01:39:50] Is going to be Farrakhan

[01:39:52] Better

[01:39:54] Okay

[01:39:56] I'm gonna have Michelle Obama

[01:39:58] Open

[01:40:00] For me okay

[01:40:02] Because I know

[01:40:04] She's gonna get everybody's attention

[01:40:06] She's gonna make sure

[01:40:08] That

[01:40:10] People

[01:40:12] She draws everybody in

[01:40:14] For

[01:40:16] My next person that's gonna

[01:40:18] Take over

[01:40:20] My case

[01:40:22] So we're gonna start with Michelle Obama

[01:40:24] Okay

[01:40:26] You got Obama I got Obama

[01:40:28] Okay all right

[01:40:30] My second person

[01:40:32] If it don't fit

[01:40:34] We must acquit

[01:40:36] Okay Johnny Cochran

[01:40:38] Now Johnny gonna be up there long

[01:40:40] Wounded he's gonna run his mouth

[01:40:42] But he's gonna get it done

[01:40:44] He's gonna make everybody sitting

[01:40:46] In the jury box be like

[01:40:48] Okay I didn't think about that

[01:40:50] Okay all right

[01:40:52] He's gonna have OJ's gloves with him

[01:40:54] To I'm gonna try more

[01:40:56] Okay

[01:40:58] So Johnny Cochran

[01:41:00] Would be my next person

[01:41:02] To argue my case

[01:41:04] To bring it all home

[01:41:08] Gotta have brother Al Sharpen

[01:41:10] To bring it all home

[01:41:12] Yeah I got free

[01:41:14] And I'm gonna get up there

[01:41:16] If he don't tip over

[01:41:18] We're gonna have Al

[01:41:20] Staying up there

[01:41:22] Al's gonna just get up there

[01:41:24] And just

[01:41:26] He's gonna hit you over the head with his words

[01:41:28] And he's gonna say

[01:41:30] We gotta let brother Dave go

[01:41:32] Because I'm Al Sharpen

[01:41:34] And you gotta listen to me

[01:41:36] That's what he's gonna say

[01:41:38] But Al's gonna be my guy

[01:41:40] That's gonna

[01:41:42] Gonna say

[01:41:44] You must let him go

[01:41:46] And he, me, him

[01:41:48] And Michelle

[01:41:50] And Johnny's gonna walk out the courtroom

[01:41:52] With our hands up in the air

[01:41:54] Victory! Victory! Victory!

[01:41:56] That's what we gotta do

[01:41:58] So that's my group

[01:42:00] And that's what I'm sticking with

[01:42:02] Right there

[01:42:04] Okay

[01:42:06] I think I got better chances of being free

[01:42:08] Than you do though

[01:42:10] Possibly

[01:42:12] You can't argue my lineup

[01:42:14] There

[01:42:16] I mean you got Barack though

[01:42:18] Barack is gonna

[01:42:20] Barack's gonna smooth Charm him

[01:42:22] He's gonna

[01:42:24] They're gonna say

[01:42:26] It is Barack

[01:42:28] That's what they're gonna do

[01:42:30] Everybody loves Barack

[01:42:32] That's what they're gonna do

[01:42:34] You guys

[01:42:36] Please let us know who your lawyers would be

[01:42:38] Or who you would pick to get you out of jail

[01:42:40] So you can go home

[01:42:42] And you can go to your family

[01:42:44] So if you got your choices

[01:42:46] We'd be glad to hear what you have to say

[01:42:48] About that

[01:42:50] Okay

[01:42:52] And that brings us to the end of our show
